Flea & Street Markets
Papeete Market, also known as Marche Papeete, is a bustling city market located in the capital of French Polynesia. It offers a wide variety of goods including fruits, vegetables, fish, oils, handicrafts, and souvenirs. The market is spread over two stories and attracts locals and tourists alike. Visitors can find Tahitian quilts, wraps, handcrafted items such as shell necklaces, and black pearl jewelry at reasonable prices.
I love this market. They have everything you could want for you, family and friends. Great gifts. Great prices and very friendly vendors. They have a fruits and veggie section. A meat area as well. All around good vibes and people. You won’t be disappointed.

Early opening and early closing. Gorgeous fresh flowers, fruits, vegetables, black pearls, shell jewellery, takeaway food, clothes, souvenirs. Bright, colourful, busy, where the locals shop with the tourists. In the heart of town.
Cheeky R — Google review
Very interesting place with a large variety of art and crafts, local products, food, fruits, and vegetables all place looks very colorful and it is obviously great tourism attraction of this city highly recommended for the shopping if it comes to the souvenirs and the local food
Fiat — Google review
We went early as we thought there would be a better selection, but it turns out. We went too early because the shops don't really open until 9 and we were there at about 7:30am. Prices were reasonable. Lots of food choices. We at a chicken salad bowl from a vender that was delicious. Lots of fried food options like egg rolls and doughnuts (not my jam, but it looked amazing if that's your jam. No judgment)
Michele W — Google review
We love to come here and see the produce neatly stacked the fresh tuna for sale the flower stalls, the food stalls, and people watching

A must visit place while in Papeete. Finding parking is a challenge, make sure to carry coins (for parking that is). Lots of stalls for vegetables, fruits, clothes and souvenirs.

It’s especially nice to stop by on the days when the locals sell their goods – such a great vibe. Everyone was kind to us, and overall it’s definitely worth a visit!
Gojo — Google review
Lots of local vendors for flowers, food, jewelry, clothes, souvenirs and other household items. There are two floors to the mall, many different things to see and do. Great place to kill time while waiting for Ferries or a taxi to the airport for a flight.

Restaurant
Located on Passage Cordella in Papeete, L'O A La Bouche has been blending classic French culinary techniques with Polynesian influences for over 25 years. The restaurant is known for its exceptional service and welcoming staff who pay attention to every detail. The menu offers delicious dishes from the main course to dessert, making it a perfect spot for food enthusiasts and couples.
Absolutely spectacular place and diner. There was so much creativity (and quantity!) in the meals. I never thought white fish could be accommodated with morels like white meat, or that green mango and passion fruit juice (so no sweet) could be a divine replacement of lime. A must see!

Review for L’O À La Bouche – Papeete L’O À La Bouche is an excellent French restaurant in Papeete, offering a refined dining experience with a welcoming atmosphere. The ambience is elegant yet relaxed, making it perfect for both special occasions and casual fine dining. The food is outstanding. I ordered the escargot and the lamb rack, and both dishes were exceptional. The escargot was perfectly cooked, rich in flavor, and beautifully presented. The lamb rack was tender, cooked to perfection, and complemented by well-balanced seasonings and accompaniments. If you’re looking for top-quality French cuisine in Papeete, L’O À La Bouche is definitely a must-visit. Highly recommended!

Superb! The best meal of the trip. And, excellent service. This place is a must if you love good food. The Mahi Mahi and opa entrees were so yummy and the perfect egg starter was...perfect.

Absolutely a fantastic dining experience here while I was visiting Tahiti. I was able to know in fact Tahiti has some beautiful authentic French Restaurants here, people are so lucky. Great location, great design, great atmosphere, great hospitality, making this great restaurant. All the foods were beautifully made, my highlight was the desert, delicious beyond my imagination. Definitely recommend this magnificent French restaurant to all the tourists. Business is unbelievably good, fully booked even on Monday so you MUST book a table before you go otherwise you are testing your luck.

Manifique! We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Excellent service. An appetizer of escargot was shared - so buttery, the pastry and creamy sauce. Filet and lamb rack entres were prepared perfectly. Had to have the banana desert as well! Make a reservation to be sure....

Absolutely fantastic!! We had the mahi mahi and the beef, both were delicious and cooked perfectly. 10/10 would recommend and will definitely be back!!
Sidney C — Google review
So so good ! If you’re visiting Tahiti, it’s one of the must-see restaurants in my opinion.
Poeiti C — Google review
Outstanding, great service and fantastic food. Perfectly cooked meals, great balance of dishes and sides. The foie gras with toasted brioche was amazing. Oeuf parfait runny and well balanced. The beef fillet was perfectly cooked (medium rare) and the potatoes gratin creamy and tasty. The profiteroles were so good, soft and crunchy pastry at the same time. They were filled with delicious ice cream with chocolate sauce, the best I've had. Great friendly and helpful staff, lovely Chardonnay wine, we'll be back (from New Zealand) some day soon.

Park
Place Vai'ete is a popular waterfront park and gathering place known for its vibrant food truck scene in the evening. It's situated near the Protestant Temple and Paofai Gardens, making it a favorite spot for families to picnic and relax during the day. In the evening, locals and tourists flock to Place Vai'ete to indulge in a variety of dishes from food trucks, including chow mein, sashimi, and the national dish poisson cru.
We showed up to eat at the food trucks. We had a wonderful plate of special fried rice from one of the three trucks that were there.
Carroll S — Google review
It's an open area with in walking distance from hotels with multiple food trucks with different types of cuisines. When we were there the had live music and ice cream or sorbet. The locals were also so friendly. The only negative is they don't open until about 6pm.
Sharon B — Google review
Nice park. All the food trucks are Chinese food with some.seafood dishes mixed it. Very rudimentary but my food was tasty. I was glad to finally find affordable-ish and tasty food.

Very nice place for truck food. Called in french "roulettes". They work every day at dinner time. Good food, from pizzas to ceviches, Chinese, seafood. The square is nice, very close to the sea at Papette. Must visit if you goes to Tahiti
Francisco D — Google review
Lots of different cuisines could be found here! I got the grilled chicken but they also serve fish, along with many Asian food like Chinese and Thai. There’re live music, and free parking nearby.
Michael X — Google review
Only had a short visit here. Our transfer was picking us up at 630pm. Can't remember the name of the food truck we ate at but boy did it ever keep me good and fed for the long haul flight back to San Francisco, I can't eat airplane food for whatever reason so I'm lucky we had time to stop here.
Dwayne W — Google review
Amazing food trucks and truly nice people. The trucks have a massive selection of food made to order. Usually live music and a general festival atmosphere really make it a relaxing and pleasurable experience!

Must try when in Tahiti! Food is way better than what is offered at hotels and some local restaurants. Service is more than good and you get your money's worth with the portion!

Restaurant Le Moana is a popular dining spot in Papeete, offering a beautiful seafront location with stunning views of the marina. While some guests have noted slow service, many appreciate the friendly staff and delicious food. It's described as a pleasant discovery for those walking along the shore, with perfectly cooked meals and reasonable prices. The restaurant also offers a romantic atmosphere at night with live music.
We had some time before our plane departed so took a taxi to this restaurant. The views are amazing. The food was very good and service excellent. After lunch we walked along the waterfront in the nearby park. Very delightful.

Wish could give hirer rating but only 3 stars because service was really just careless when we sat on bar for drinks and sunset memories of Tahiti. We took cab all way from Port to get away from pouring rain and hoping to use the pool but unfortunately they ( front desk were not offering pool passes that day!) Gardens were beautiful and my smoothie was excellent, but really unfortunate we didn't feel the " aloha" as we say in Hawaiian islands. Service is definitely better in places where staff depend on tips!!
Celine M — Google review
such an amazing restaurant!! We do not speak French and they tried so hard to accommodate us and figure out what we were asking! The bar over the water is stunning and the food was amazing! Strong drinks and a beautiful setting!
Elizabeth J — Google review
Great and relaxed atmosphere where you can grab French fries and beer or even a great plate for lunch or dinner. The service is really good and they have a big deck near the water to enjoy the views of the port and the gardens.

This place was truly fabulous! We got the beef tenderloin with fries and a side of green beans and it was to die for! They were had vinegar with our fries and everything was just perfection. We day down by the water and the breeze felt so good. Highly recommend.

This was an accidental pleasant discovery. Just got off the cruise ship walking along the shore and found this restaurant which has a perfect location. Initially just having a few drinks and then decided to have lunch. The food was great. Perfectly cooked and yummy. It is a secret must visit when in Papeete.
PJ N — Google review
The most amazing place to sit. You have the perfect view, local music at the weekends and it is just lovely. There are even some waiters who are good. But that is it. The food is not very good, we have tried a few different ones. Often the service is poor - slow, making mistakes and forgetting you are there. Often in the afternoon, they have some kind of club music turned on far to, loud, so you need to talk loud - this is at the bar over the water - that is simply not enjoyable. You will still go there as the place has the best view - think what it could become if it was good food, good service and nice music too.
Jens O — Google review
Great location with nice views (marina, not beach) lots of people watching as the main walk is there and lots of people walking/jogging by. I had to shave a star due to the SLOOOOOOOOW service. We arrived about 45 minutes early for our reservation and decided to have a drink at the bar while we waited, lets just say the service was so slow (we each ordered 1 drink) that we had to take our drinks back to the table with us. The food overall was good and the staff was very friendly. I'd definitely go here again if in Tahiti!

Fare Suisse

Bed & breakfast
Nestled in a serene location, Fare Suisse offers simple yet comfortable accommodations that are perfect for travelers seeking a laid-back experience. The property features modestly furnished rooms, some equipped with kitchenettes, and provides a delightful breakfast to kickstart your day. Managed by an incredibly welcoming couple, guests can enjoy the cozy atmosphere and friendly service throughout their stay. While the amenities may be basic, visitors appreciate the clean environment and shared transportation options available to explore nearby attractions.
We stayed one night here, mainly because of the airport shuttle and reasonable price. But the rooms were clean, spacious and everything exceeded our expectations. About 20 minutes walk to the centre, the hotel is situated on a small slope and there is abit of climbing but not as exaggerated as some other comments have stated. The shuttle is based on your flight timing and you just need to notify them beforehand. Service was great, they are so kind with everything.
Deb C — Google review
We booked this "guesthouse" because we wanted Tahitian hospitality over a hotel's anonymity. Boy were we wrong! The owner and his staff were sassy at best and outright rude on multiple occasions, making us feel not welcome at all: 1) I booked a room for two and only found one towel in the room. We asked for another towel which they said they would send but it never arrived. When we asked again after two (!) hours, the owner started arguing that they only provided new towels every other day. Okay, but we are two people and only have ONE towel?!?! 2) Their card reader didn't read two different cards (which worked everywhere else) and the lady at the reception made me feel like I was trying to defraud them. 3) They promote free airport/ferry pickup. Do yourself a favor and take a taxi. They clearly forgot to pick us up at the ferry but wouldn't own up to it. When I called after waiting 30mins, I was just rudely told that I need to wait or are free to take a taxi. When I asked what type of car I should be looking out for, the owner just hung up on me. Our "shuttle" arrived 50 mins (!) after the ferry got in. It was clearly not the regular shuttle but a server from the bar picked us up with their business vehicle. 4) In general, the advertised free shuttle is only offered at their discretion. You have absolutely no say when you are being shuttled, and shut down with a "you're free to take a taxi". Overall, it was a dismal ending to our stay in Polynesia. Would not recommend if you're looking for hospitality and comfort.
Antje W — Google review
Nice simple guest house for a short stay in Papeete. Price for breakfast was recently raised to 1500xpf and is not worth it. The toilet in our room would not flush, we had to lift the lid and manually turn the water on and off.
Susie B — Google review
We stayed here two nights. The structure offer a free shuttle service, which is nice. We decided to have breakfast in the structure and it was totally worth it, one of the best breakfast we had during our stay in the country, everything was delicious and seemed to be homemade. Rooms were clean and spacious enough. It’s close to the city center so it’s easy to move by foot (even though I must say it is quite dark in the night).
Ginevra L — Google review
The only positive thing I can say about this place is the kind women working here…. Concerning the rest : I tried to contact faire suisse in august in order to assure my arrival for the day of for the free navette and there was no response. Then in october a day and a half before I arrived I contacted faire suisse on WhatsApp no response. So then I emailed the night before, the owner told me to take a taxi because he didn't hear from me so he couldn't organise the navette (when i had contacted him on booking and WhatsApp in advance). In addition, the place was dirty, the sheets on the bed were dirty and stained (I have photos), the bed was super uncomfortable, no wifi working in the room, we ate at the restaurant- took over an hour and a half to be served and the meal wasn't good. In addition when we went to pay - i saw the state of the kitchen and it was soooo dirty.

Stayed for two nights before boarding a cruise. Quaint, clean and affordable. Owner was on site during a late check. In. Restaurant was open and had a good offering well priced and a lovely staff. I would return. Little rural but 5-10 min taxi to where we needed to go. A taste of the islands locals, pleasant accommodations and worth the savings. Over all 4 Stars on a budget.
Bill O — Google review
We picked this hotel because they’re the only ones who pick you up from the airport. It exceeded our expectations as the price was low, around $100 USD per night. Rooms were clean, breakfast was delicious (not included), they had cheap water/beer for sale, and the staff were all kind. They’re on top of a hill so you got some great views from their restaurant. It’s about a 15 min walk to downtown, and there’s a grocery store about 10 min walk away. Would definitely stay there again and recommended for your first time in Papeete.
GoodDealTraveler — Google review
Good stopping point for Papeete. Rooms are clean, ac works well as does shower. Location excellent for access to cruise boarding area and waterfront. Negatives were breakfast, flies all over the food, fruit looked old and not fresh. Coffee was luke warm at best. All in all a bad offering for $12.00 us a piece. Do not bank on utilizing the airport pickup or drop off. In both cases hotel transport was late 45 minutes going and coming back to the airport. Get a cab. Website indicates they will transfer to cruise line drop off, they do not. Walk or cab, both are OK. Suggest to hotel that they make sure the time shown in the ford bus is correct, 12 minutes off as of a day ago.

While shopping in Le Marché Municipal in Papeete, Tahiti, we were looking for a place to dine within the indoor/ outdoor market, there are several choices to consider, from takeaway to sit down. We made our way to the upper level of the market and found a restaurant that was opened to the outdoor breeze and plenty of seating. We were promptly greeted and seated. We had a friendly person who brought us a menu and drinks, the menu was enticing and we found two items that whet our appetite, a local board and a full board, we chose the local board, OMG! The local board was amazing, it’s a Tahitian Ban Chan, so many different servings of fish, pork, cheeses, 3 kinds of tuna, cold cuts, fruits and the freshly made donuts, this easily feeds 4 people, we ate it all and we were 2! We look forward to visiting this restaurant again, so yummy!

The presentation of the food was good, the sweet potatoes are so delicious!!! I tried the fish burger and the slice of fish it’s very thick, however it’s smaller than the bread tho. My boyfriend hamburger was super nice, the meat was on point and juicy!

McDonald’s is a well-known fast-food chain famous for its burgers and fries. The restaurant offers a diverse menu compared to its American counterpart, with unique items like chicken wings with BBQ sauce. Customers can place their orders at self-order kiosks or through the traditional line, which moves quickly. The atmosphere is enjoyable, with large indoor and outdoor seating areas and even a children's playground in some locations.
Very family friendly MCD. Love the play place. Great location to entertain kids while parents shop downtown.

Bacon was raw not cooked when we asked for new bacon the manager argued with my husband saying it was cooked finally got new and they gave him one small piece. We requested new soda as the were flat and wrong selections Manager made fun of us said oh Americans as he laughed and pushed all the different soda buttons on the soda machine. He said this is Tahiti no bubbly its flat. Needless to say worse experience ever. We love Moorea Tahiti and the islands we visit often this is the first time we have been treated so poorly. Really sad and heartbreaking.

Its packed, its super expensive compared to the rest of the world, the service workers are so nice, and the taste is consistent and reliable as always.
Mohamed A — Google review
The McDonald's in Papeete, Tahiti, was a surprisingly great experience. We ordered a Big Mac menu with nuggets and a Quarter Pounder menu, and everything exceeded expectations. The food was served piping hot, which isn’t always a given at McDonald's locations worldwide. The fries were crispy and fresh, and the nuggets were perfectly golden and crunchy. The real highlight, though, was the Quarter Pounder. Unlike the usual version, this one had three slices of cheese instead of the typical one or two, making it extra gooey and flavorful. The beef was juicy, and the overall balance of ingredients was spot on. The Big Mac was just as good—fresh, with a well-balanced sauce-to-meat ratio. The restaurant itself was clean, and the service was quick and efficient. It wasn’t overly crowded, which made the experience even better. Prices were about the same as what you’d find in the U.S. or Europe, so thats very good since you're on such a remote island in the middle of the ocean. Overall, this McDonald's felt like a step up from the average. The quality and attention to detail in the food were impressive, and that extra slice of cheese on the Quarter Pounder was a game-changer! Would definitely recommend.
Raven — Google review
Large McDonalds with a lot of indoor and outdoor seating. It's enjoyable to see menu items that differ from the States. There is one line to place your order (so self-order kiosks here), and it went by quickly. We were able to order what we wanted, and there was an automated board that would let you know when your order is ready (pretty important since I would not have recognized 372 in French). We ended up getting the chicken wings meal (5 pieces) with bbq sauce. The wings were large, well-fried, and very tastey. The fries were good; glad we ordered a large for each of us. We also shared a fudge sundae...it was hastily put together (wish they offered nuts), but the soft serve ice cream was as good as we've ever had at a McDonald's. Prices were OK for Tahiti (390 for large fries, 1,640 for chicken wing meal, 430 for sundae).
James A — Google review
Ordered a banana Carmel pie. They gave me one that was cold, so I brought it back to the counter and asked for a hot one. They produced one way too quickly to have made a fresh one. The second one was way too hot to eat without burning your mouth and chewy. They obviously microwaved one of the cold ones. Terrible service, even for McDonalds.
August P — Google review
It's very similar to every other McDonald's in the US, UT with poor French fries. This was the only place open within walking distance on a sunday

Les 3 Brasseurs is a popular spot located along the waterfront in Tahiti, offering a great experience for visitors. They brew their own selection of five homemade beers, available in various sizes. The staff is friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the food menu offers a delicious selection of French Polynesian cuisine. The rooftop bar features live music and a DJ, creating a fantastic atmosphere for an evening out.
Came here twice during my trip, both on Saturday nights, and had a great time each visit. The atmosphere is lively, especially with live music kicking off around 9 PM and going strong until midnight. While I didn’t make it to the upstairs bar, the downstairs area had great energy and was the perfect spot to enjoy the night. The drinks were all excellent — I tried the red wine, espresso martinis, and their house-brewed beer, and everything hit the spot. The food was just as good, making it a well-rounded night out. Highly recommend if you’re looking for good vibes, great drinks, and live music in a fun setting!

We had dinner here and absolutely loved it. The Porc Roussillant and Frites de Manioc were both outstanding — crispy pork with rich flavor and perfectly fried cassava fries. They were recommended by our waitress as the chef’s specials, and it was spot on. The craft beer here is easily some of the best in Papeete — smooth, refreshing, and clearly brewed with care. The service was friendly and relaxed, and the staff made us feel welcome. The location right by the pier gives you a beautiful ocean view and an easygoing vibe. When the live music started in the evening, the whole place came alive without feeling too loud or touristy. Overall, this spot perfectly combines great food, local beer, and an authentic island atmosphere. If you’re in Papeete, this is one of those places you shouldn’t skip. 🍻🌴

We stopped in while waiting to get on a cruise because we wanted to try some local beer. I got a flight, which had all their regular beers and a limited edition brewer's special. Their core beers are fine, not my favorite but drinkable. If you're an American IPA drinker, the IPA is not for you. It's much more of a malt-forward British IPA. The standout beer was the brewer's special! I know it changes, but it was by far the most delicious. After my tasting flight I got a pint of it!

What a great place to go for good food! We were looking for a local spot in Tahiti that was walking distance from our hotel and found this popular spot just down the road. There are two levels and we went up to the "Baroof" on te upper level. Great music, amazing service and a fun atmosphere! The pizzas are amazing and the Profiterols are to die for! Soo good. I would recommend this restaurant/bar to anyone looking for a nice night out in Tahiti.

We have no problem getting a table for dinner on a holiday… service was slow with few guest. foods are tasty and extra charge applies for to- go container, 100 franc. Plenty of street parkings surrounding the restaurant.

Conveniently located near the parks and ferry. The staff is very nice, food is a delicious selection of French Polynesian cuisine, and the cocktails are superb. We were there in the evening dining at the rooftop bar, where they had a DJ playing music and downstairs had live music. We had a fantastic time there. Go give it a try. Oh yeah...we came back for lunch the next day and sat inside the restaurant where there was AC, it can get very hot in the day.

Lapizzeria in Papeete is a highly recommended dining spot, offering some of the best wood-fired oven pizza and creamy pesto sauce gnocchi. The casual atmosphere with both indoor and covered outdoor seating provides a pleasant dining experience. The attentive and helpful staff contribute to the great service. With large portions, quick service, and a non-smoking outdoor area near Marina Papeete, Lapizzeria offers a relaxed atmosphere for enjoying delicious Italian pizza, pasta, and mozzarella cheese.
If you visit Tahiti one day, I recommend you go there for the best Italian kitchen. Everything was delicious. The sesame bread is to die for. Yummy ! The staff were amazing. The boss was very nice and funny.

Stopped by on a whim and was really impressed! The Margherita pizza was super tasty, service was quick, and the cocktails were great too. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the mood for pizza.

Some of the best pizza we’ve ever had, especially the crust that comes from the woodfired oven. Who knew we’d find it in Tahiti!!? the creamy pesto sauce on the gnocchi was also delicious. Service was great, atmosphere was casual, with covered outdoor and indoor seating. The ladies that served us were all attentive and super helpful. We got dessert to go, tiramisu and creme caramel. They both looked tasty.

Very popular. I didn't book but I still got a table for 3 thanks to the kind staff. Icey cold draft beer and large, well loaded pizzas of many types. Sicilian my favorite! It's been in operation since 1968 and you can see why!

Arahoho Blowhole is a tourist attraction that offers a unique ambience and showcases the power of nature. While it may not be a must-see, visitors can still enjoy the experience in 5-10 minutes. The main blowhole is situated on the left-hand side of the path, providing a breeze and spray for tourists to witness. Additionally, there are smaller blowholes located to the right of the path that shouldn't take up too much time to explore.
Cool thing to see! Doesn’t take a ton of time. Limited parking available but the entrance to the three waterfalls is across the street so you can see both attractions.
Courtney W — Google review
WE stopped here as we drove around the island of Tahiti. It is a nice spot to stop and rest. Shady, with nice restrooms. You are not able to see the blowhole they have it fenced off. You are able to watch the ocean or visit the gift shops there.
Jeff R — Google review
The view of the blow hole was around a cliff and closed due to possible rock slides. The black beach was gorgeous and they have bath and restrooms open to public.
J S — Google review
Beautiful location Looks like you need to come at high tide to get that blow hole to really pop so you can see the high powered mist. There is nice park and walk after the blowhole. The parking 🅿️ is tight. The black beach ⛱️ is truly amazing to look at. It makes the water black too. It's free parking no need to pay for anything
Corenzo W — Google review
You may think it’s just a hole in the ground and you may even be tempted to skip Arahoho Blowhole on your trip around Tahiti, but TRUST ME when I say this: this is one of the coolest things you will see on your entire trip!! This is equal to any of the waterfalls, beaches, and other places on the islands of French Polynesia! I have never seen anything like it - waves slam into the rocks down at sea level, and this narrow hole channels the pressure all the way up to where you are standing! It’s like a tube that blasts air out and it is POWERFUL! It shoots wind close to hurricane force, and if you got too close, you would definitely blow over from the force! It is loud too, so be prepared!!! I 100% recommend stopping here along your drive - it is free and entirely worth a few minutes of your time. There is almost no walking required, and there is also a nice park attached to the Blowhole area where you can have a nice view of the ocean as well as the sea creatures on the rocks below! One unique phenomenon that you might spot when you visit is these little fish things that hop all across the rocks near the bottom entrance of the blowhole. It is weird, and I have never seen anything like it before. Maybe you know why they are? 🤔
Michael — Google review
The blowhole is a small opening near the wall of the rock face that shoots out a mist of seawater in gusts with a loud whoosh sound. Around the blowhole also involves a short paved trail along the coast. The black sand beach is also fantastic to relax in. If you walk to the edge of the beach towards the east/south side, there is a freshwater river that feeds in to the ocean which is a very unique feeling with the intersection of cold stream fresh water and warm salty ocean water. Parking is extremely difficult but we were lucky and was able to get a spot right as someone left.
Victor W — Google review
One of the best natural phenomenon I have ever seen. The smoke comes out of an actual lava duct jutting out from the ocean into these rocks! Just absolutely stunning!
Kevin P — Google review

O Belvédère is a unique and thrilling restaurant located in Tahiti, offering an unforgettable dining experience. Accessible via a narrow one-lane road through dense jungle, the journey to the restaurant is an adventure in itself. The stunning location provides breathtaking views of the canyon and ocean, especially during sunset. The ambiance is enhanced by music and a pool for relaxation. Despite its remote location, the restaurant offers excellent service and delicious French cuisine with generous portions.
Amazing views, well priced happy hour drinks and tons of free board games / darts / pool. The sunset was fantastic!

This place is amazing. The drive up is a single road you will be thing damn this is definitely a bike path but it’s not it’s a road. When you get to the top view is great. Check out the bathrooms it’s a place for a king. Food was good not great. I would 100% go back again tho.

This place is nuts! The road to get to the restaurant is pretty nuts and takes you through dense jungle on a one lane road up about 400 meters. But it's well worth it! Probably one of the most unique and exciting places I've been before. The service was awesome and someone was playing records that set the mood of the whole place. We made it in time for sunset and it was absolutely beautiful. It was so great to spend time up there and lounge for dinner. There was a pool to swim in, pool table. And many other areas to enjoy. I will be back for sure!
Adam L — Google review
The restaurant was amazing. The drive up there, terrifying! Make the drive during the day to learn the one lane road up the ridge before hanging there for an evening. The restaurant is definitely worth the adrenaline rush of getting there!
Kevin O — Google review
You have to go up when the weather lets you. A beautiful viewpoint, more than 600 meters above sea level. With a cute restaurant/bar. Note: the road leading up to the viewpoint is very narrow and most often one way. Inexperienced drivers will have a tough time. Also there is no fencing.
Jah N — Google review
One of the better restaurants on Tahiti, this place serves great French food in a spectacular location. The wine list and cocktails are both great, and the raclette charcuterie spread is quite unique - a machine heats the cheese to be scraped off and paired with meats and other things. The view of the canyon and the ocean beyond is fantastic.

The Papeete Catholic Cathedral, also known as Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Papeete, is a historic colonial and partly Gothic-style church that was built by French missionaries and inaugurated in 1875. It is one of the must-see cultural sites in Tahiti, along with the Papeete market, pearl museum, and Paofai Park.
Beautiful local cathedral with Tahitian style. You have to visit. Wonderful architecture. Oldest church on the island. Beautiful wooden carvings. I really liked that the stations of the cross paintings had Tahitian flair.
Ernesto A — Google review
This is a church. In the middle of the city. Nothing special. But free parking for two hours, close to the main port, in a calm area.
Miklós C — Google review
I was in Tahiti on 22nd August, 2017, a beautiful but pretty hot day, and while out site-seeing was looking for the US Embassy (McDonald's) and came across the Papeete Catholic Cathedral, know as Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Papeete. Not at all far from the waterfront, it's a modest but nice Cathedral. It was built by French missionaries in the period 1848-1875 making it the oldest church in Tahiti. Also of interest is that it's the last remaining examples of the early colonial architecture of Papeete. The gaily coloured with red roof, not to mention the distinctive red spire on the church tower certainly make this cathedral a stand out in the centre of the capital. The Cathedral has benefited from several restorations over the years and it will be interesting to see how it holds its place in years to come as central Papeete develops, as I'm sure that it will. ps. Walking a little further down the road from the Cathedral I eventually found the rather uninteresting U.S. Embassy.

The Musée de la Perle Robert Wan, located on boulevard Pomare at rue l'Arthemise, is a small yet captivating museum dedicated to the history of pearls and jewelry making. Named after Robert Wan, a pioneer in the local pearl industry, the museum offers educational exhibits on the legends of pearls and their cultural significance. Visitors can explore the process of pearl cultivation and learn about what to look for when selecting pearls.
A good place to understand how those pearls grow and where are they from. No ticket, no reservation, just walk in.

Informative. Explains the history of pearls in the pacific. Took 20 minutes to view all exhibits. I know understand the Robert Wan is the Polynesian pearls equivalent of DeBeres. No cost for touring museum.
Jonny Q — Google review
The Robert Wan Pearl Museum in Tahiti provides insights into pearl cultivation through its exhibit, but it feels predominantly like a high-end pearl retail store rather than a pearl museum. While the free admission is a plus, the high prices of the items for sale gives a more commercial vibe.
SALMAN H — Google review
Small free museum about Tahitian pearl cultivation. Mostly, it's a retail store with expensive prices. It takes about 15 minutes to see all the exhibits. 3 small rooms, some videos. Explanations in French and English.
Lee M — Google review
It’s basically a shop with a few exhibits on the side. What’s actually nice is you can also see some really amazing pearls for sale. Parking is a bit challenging.
JeanClaude B — Google review
Worth stopping by if you are in town. Get a chance to learn a thing or two about the history and origin of pearls. Otherwise you can also buy some fine selections here. Finally don’t be afraid to ask the staff questions! They are very friendly and eager to share their knowledge.

Very informative tour. The guide explained how the pearl was harvested and the exhibits are interesting. It will take you about 15 mins to move around. Spend time to read some articles. And did I mention it's air conditioned - great to escape the afternoon heat for awhile.

We came in without a reservation and got seated right away. We did not experience any slow service. In fact it was very fast. The restaurant was busy for a Saturday night with live music (which was good). The fish with vanilla sauce was excellent

Had a delicious lunch at Meherio in Pape’ete. Our server Tam was lovely, and provided great service, along with local knowledge and recommendations. Tam also kept us entertained with some cheeky humour :) The Polynesian Platter and seafood bowl were great, and the star was the Saumon Risotto - phenomenal.

Meherio Tahitian Bistro is a great spot right on the water in Tahiti. I found some unexpected flavors in the most delightful way. I had their Tuna Sashimi with Olives, Parmesan, and Pizza Seasoning. Yes, you read that right. At first glance, it might sound like a chaotic mix of ingredients… this recipe is coming back to St. Louis with me. The fresh, buttery tuna is at the bottom of the plate, topped with salty bites of olives, the richness of Parmesan, and the surprising addition of a pizza type seasoning, which somehow ties everything together. It shouldn’t work, but it absolutely does.

I had to deduct stars because they allow smoking in the restaurant and that is unacceptable and ruined the experience. The food is excellent and has great views. If they would respect people's health and not allow smoking around guests eating I would give a stars.

Beautiful terrace staff are excellent but food was not something I would go back there for. I ordered the fish and chips the batter was thick and soggy the fish inside was overcooked and had no flavour at all. The fries were fine the mahi mahi starter was ok but quite salty. Prices are high and personally I do not think the meal was worth it. Should have had the traditional poke from the mall.

Vaima Shopping Center is a modern architectural marvel with a diverse range of shops, from traditional to contemporary, as well as cozy coffee shops and restaurants. The three-floor center offers an interesting selection of goods for tourists. Visitors can enjoy street food options that provide a cheap and quick dining alternative. The shopping center also features colorful murals by the Spanish artist Okuda, adding an artistic touch to the ambiance. While parking space in the garage is limited, there are public parking options nearby.
Great shopping center (three floors) with nice shops from traditional to modern as well coffeeshops and restaurants around. Note: There are stairs to climb - the escalators were out of order at our visits - but there is a working lift. Parking space in garage is limited, so I would recommend you plan visit in morning hours. But a few walking minutes away you will find public parking (fee).

This is just street food, a cheap alternative to a sit down restaurant. NOTHING fancy, nothing special. It is always busy with the locals. If you want fast food but decent food this is your place. Again this is a no frills kind of place. Just basic food at reasonable prices. There is no seating here so prepare to carry your food away or stand there and eat it.
David H — Google review
A short walk from the Marché de Papeete (the Papeete Market) and past the Papeete Cathedral is the Vaima Center. This virtually takes up a whole block from Avenue du General de Gaulle opposite McDonald's and Boulevard de la Reine Romare IV on the waterfront side. For a shopping mall it's small by western standards, so much so that I really wouldn't call it a shopping mall but the Vaima Center is the largest building and the largest shopping center in the city of Papeete. It has 60 shops and some 40 businesses. There are food outlets and a number of retail stores, souvenirs shops, clothes and a number of Tahitian pearl jewellery stores. It also has an internet cafe with strong WiFi which can be useful to tourists. It's not much to look at from the back side but it's quite a nice looking complex from the seafront side. Worth a visit.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Papeete! My husband & I ate mostly from the daily special options. The Endive salad was simple, elegant & delicious. After our first visit(we went three times during our stay) we ordered anything that came with the Roquefort sauce. Its amazing! On fish or meat….I ate all of it. The atmosphere is perfect. Wait staff were very helpful & kind. They had old 80’s music videos playing on the tv….some I haven’t seen in years & a few you could only see in Europe. The location is great for people watching. It’s an excellent spot to pop in for a few drinks if you need to cool off or take a break from shopping. Anyone who would want to eat a hamburger when there is actual French cuisine available to them needs tapped on the forehead with a tack hammer.

Definitely do not recommend eating here!!! Food was terrible. Worst on the island. Ordered a recommendation chicken sandwich ($20 sandwich) it was the worst one I’ve had in my life. I also took my second bite and had a huge bone in my mouth. There’s better places to eat on the island for sure. We just went here because everything else was closed. This might be a good spot for drinks just not food. It was dark meat and the egg was slimy with no flavor or spice, the whole thing had nothing on it actually. Juice was good but I’m sure it was from a carton. We got the crème brûlée thinking that would be better. No ); it was the worst one I ever had. I had to spit it out. I’ve never done that with a desert before. It was really bad. Wi-Fi also lasted 30 mins. I asked for it before I ordered and they didn’t give it to me and walked away, so I asked someone else because I needed it to translate and she barley gave it to me and wasn’t the nicest server. Don’t recommend this place.

Warmly greeted upon arrival. Dinner was amazing. Delicious French dishes with a Polynesian infusion. Highly recommend visit.

Dining highlight of our time in Papeete. Nice menu, well prepared in French fashion. Excellent and fair priced wine list. Lots of fresh fish options. Scallops and fish were superb.
John C — Google review
Highly enjoyable experience. The food was fantastic with good, friendly service. They had a great selection of reasonably priced wines, and a wide selection of food options. We enjoyed both meat and fish options as well as a wonderful simple pasta they made for my daughter. All of it was delicious. This was the best dinner spot we found in Tahiti. The online reservation option made booking a table easy.

Fantastic restaurant in a Papeete backstreet. Super-friendly and helpful staff, they even let us taste some wines so we could make an informed choice. The food was superb. We chose our mains from the day menu (pork and veal) and both were absolutely delicious. The entrees and desserts were excellent too. Also, the chef came out several times to ensure everybody was happy, how often does that happen these days?

Fantastic dining experience at this gem of a restaurant. The food is amazing. The scallops were the best I’ve ever had in my life (including multiple Michelin starred restaurants). My wife’s mahi mahi was equally amazing. One of the best restaurants in all of Tahiti.
Kevin C — Google review
Absolutely perfect dinner. I started by ordering the duck breast souffle. This, itself, was a healthy snack - though, I was hungry. I then ordered the grilled salmon with bernaisse sauce. Very highly recommended. Finally, I finished with the profiteroles (salted caramel). Service was a bit slow, but it's to be expected with such a small dining space (10 tables).

Good service. Entrées (parrotfish and duck leg) are solid. Potato leak soup are very tasty. The vanilla souffle is on the sweeter side for my personal liking. Banana souffle crepe is very good.

History Museums
The Museum of Tahiti and The Islands, established in 1974, showcases a diverse collection of Polynesian artifacts and offers an immersive ethnographic experience. Visitors can admire captivating artwork and explore exhibits that shed light on the history of the islands. Though some sections may be temporarily closed due to renovations, there is still plenty to see, including the stunning escales en polynesie exhibit. The courtyard garden provides a peaceful oasis with views of Moorea from the nearby black sand beach.
This is a small but well presented museum that is well worth a visit if you have the time. All the signage is in Tahitian, French and English. We also got the audio guides, but I don’t believe they are necessary. There were many topics where I wished they showed greater detail, but given the size of the museum, I think they did a super job. We went mid week and there was plenty of parking. There are restrooms inside, and the museum itself was air-conditioned.

Fabulous Polynesian experience in this quality museum. Multi language information on cultural pieces from the region. You can get around most of it in an hour. Beautiful tropics garden in the central courtyard. Grab yourself a picnic lunch (from Le Fournil Hautbois on the main road) to enjoy in the spacious main grounds and waterfront.
Graeme R — Google review
We went to this lovely museum Sunday afternoon after a morning on the beach. It was easy to nagivate with a wheelchair, the signs were in French and English, and the staff was welcoming and understanding with our limited French. Well thought out and informative displays introduced us to the history and culture of the islands of Polynesia. We visited on a Sunday and there were local craftsman. We did not budget enough time. If you like history and readying plaques I would recommend 1.5-2 hours at least.

Awesome Museum. Really high quality for a small country. It’s not large but beautifully presented. Well worth a visit it’s fascinating to learn about the history of French Polynesia. And the South Pacific.

The newly renovated Museum, reopened in 2023, within a contemporary new building, unveiling the cultural heritage of French Polynesia. Interactive displays—touchscreens, videos, and models—offer immersive storytelling, and a beautifully landscaped garden inside.

This is a lovely collection and a must see to help you contextualize your visit to French Polynesia. The collection is well laid out and the grounds are amazing. Also they have one of Captain Cook’s anchors from the Resolute!
Paul O — Google review
The location is awkward to get to, but it does have a nice big property with water view and plenty of free parking. Very pretty exterior. Was excited to give it a try and support a local museum.... So was shocked when I tried to buy our 2 tickets (1,000xpf each / $20USD total).... that this tourist attraction could only accept exact change in their local currency or credit card. So having brought 5,000xpf (equivalent $50USD) for our admission, they refused to admit us because we didn't have exact change. The lady manning entry didn't seem to care and couldn't be bothered much as she seemed more focused on eating her lunch. Luckily for us, the main thing we wanted to see (Captain Cook's anchor) is viewable for FREE in the parking lot. Tourists be warned if you plan to pay in local currency.

Fantastic museum of Polynesian history and culture. Information signs in 3 languages, an audio guide for those that prefer that medium, lots of interactive displays. We loved the visit!

Nature & Parks
Bougainville Park, located in Papeete, Tahiti, is a small and peaceful urban oasis named after French navigator Louis Antoine de Bougainville. The park features tree-topped walkways, shaded lawns, public gardens, a tranquil stream, a koi carp-filled pond, tropical vegetation and an enormous shade-giving banyan tree. Visitors can relax on benches by the waterfront and enjoy people-watching.
Always visit parks where you visit. You learn a bit of history and enjoy the calmness amongst the hustle and bustle of downtown. It's much bigger than it looks and has a water garden too. This park is on the main drag and worth the stop to appreciate. It's also part of a bigger downtown walking tour.

Amazing place for chilling out, having some coffee or beer in a nice bars and restaurants surrounded. Or just go for a nice walk. If you feel like having exercise, perfect place for running or for a gym there is a several outdoor gym center free of charge available in the park.

Pā'ōfa'i Gardens, located in the heart of Papeete, is a serene oasis offering a respite from city life. The four-hectare park features lush landscaping with hundreds of trees, walking trails, and ornamental fish ponds. Visitors can explore the most emblematic plants and shrubs of French Polynesia while enjoying well-manicured lawns and sports facilities. The park also provides picnic areas, playgrounds for children, and exhibition spaces.
A nice little walk from the cruise terminal. It's a beautiful serene place to stroll.

I did a walk about from the ship pier, the gardens were within 15 minutes from the ship. I enjoyed the various pieces of art that I found and there was lots of places to lay in the grass in the shade. Great place to while away the day and relax.

It is located a few minutes away from the port. A place where locals gathered to enjoy free time. By the water front. With areas for pic nic and sports. There are a few sculptures scatered around the gardens.

the fountains are super pretty but other than that it’s a pretty standard park, with lots of seating, outdoor chess table, shade, grass, some sculptures/memorials, exercise stuff, and a walk along the water with views of moorea and the ferries/cruise ships

A very typical, normal public park. Main restroom wasnt working so we had to find an alternate one, which had no soap. Lots of unhoused people and encampments. Nothing to really see or do or marvel at. Pretty views of the ocean.

Decent little park near the water. View out to shipping docks so not the most picturesque. All the playgrounds were closed. Not sure if they have limited opening hours or just because of the rain earlier. Some nice sculptures and workout equipment. Lots of joggers.

Hypermarket
Carrefour Faaa, located in the Pacific Center shopping mall, is a one-stop destination for convenient and diverse shopping experiences. This full-service superstore offers groceries, clothing, electronics, and more all under one roof. Easily accessible from the Hilton via a pedestrian sky walk bridge, it's a great option for visitors looking to stock up on essentials or enjoy a hassle-free shopping experience.
Excellent choice of quality food including freshly made tuna ceviche and sushi/sashimi. Hot delicious French baguettes and other ready-to-eat food. Real lifesaver for tourists staying at overpriced hotels.
Homo C — Google review
They have what you need (as a tourist)! Prices are high as you would expect given importing. But they are well-stocked and staff are helpful. Bonus: There’s a walkway from the Hilton over the heavily-trafficked roadway below.

Carrefour Faa’a, located in the Pacific Plaza in Fa’a’ā, French Polynesia, is a prominent hypermarket offering a comprehensive shopping experience. Shoppers can find a wide array of products, including fresh produce, local delicacies, international brands, clothing, household goods, and electronics. The store is known for its spacious aisles and well-organized sections, contributing to a pleasant shopping atmosphere.
Arun B — Google review
Think of Walmart and you'll have a pretty good idea of what you can get here. We found plenty of fresh foods and wonderful bread. And, of course, plenty of juice from the islands! We were very tempted by their large selection of fruit tortes - but resisted for the health of our bodies. I'm convinced they have a party artist hiding in the back these desserts are a work of art. If you're a Pepsi drinker, this is one of the few places we found Coke's rival. (Coke seems to own the island...)
Walter B — Google review
Amazing store. I'm so jealous that it sits in the middle of the Pacific instead of in my hometown.
Jef — Google review
Located in the Centre Commercial Pacific Plaza Shopping Mall, Carrefour is a full-service superstore (groceries, clothes, and electronics). It is located right across the street from the Hilton Tahiti (there is a pedestrian bridge connecting the two), and was our go-to place for meals during our 6 night stay. It has all missing personal products that you might have forgot for your trip. It also seems to be a place where locals come to shop, though the prices seem commiserate with being in a tourist area. Our main driver to come here 5+ times was to get snacks and prepared foods. Many things were expensive (e.g. price of lay's potato chips was over $7 USD), but other things were oddly cheaper (e.g. price of Korean snack brand Nongshim products were under $1, which is half of the cost in Cali). Food necessities were definitely subsidized and controlled by law (e.g. a full fresh baguette was under 50 cents in 2023, and a large ~8 oz of salted butter was under $1.25). So french bread with butter was our 'starch' for our meals. Also near the breads, there were frech style sweet crepes: we got chocolate crepes from Paysan Breton brand...they were SO good and so inexpensive. They do have a deli, where they had warm, prepared, meat dishes. We tried the rotisserie chicken quarters (thigh and drumstick) multiple times (under $5), and added steamed vegetables or steamed rice (also around $5). The chicken was very good: the first time was with bbq sauce but the second time was just chicken and it reminded me of the savoriness of Hainan chicken...just pure chicken essence. There was also various sausages, stews. They had sushi/maki available but wasn't visually appetizing so we passed on that. Our hotel did not have a microwave, so getting prepared foods was our only option for warm meals without going to a restaurant everytime. There are modern checkout lines, where digital payments are accepted in CFP. People recognize visitors so communication outside of French is rudimentary but effective and cordial.
James A — Google review
It’s a super convenient location if you’re staying at the Hilton. The options are not bad. It’s not the best Carrefour I’ve been to, it’s also not the worst. Decent selection of drinks and snacks. Great place to shop to bring stuff to when you’re heading to one of the islands.

Tahiti Smoothies is a popular spot in Papeete, known for its satisfying food and refreshing smoothies. Despite being stumbled upon by some visitors, it left them feeling full and content. The sashimi platter and papaya smoothie were highlights, complemented by the great AC and friendly staff. Another visitor enjoyed the cheesy pork sandwich recommended by the cashier along with a berry smoothie.
Delicious Pad Thai with tofu and wonderful service! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating as well. There were several vegetarian options including noodle dishes and a sandwich.

Got the cheesy pork sandwich by the cashiers recommendation, and the berry smoothie. The sandwich was good, not a lot of food for $12, but it’s our first meal here so I think we’re gonna have to adjust to generally higher prices. The berry smoothie was really good. Nice place to grab a small bite to eat, but don’t expect a full meal to fill you up.

not the nicest hostel i’ve stayed in but has everything you need in a great location, can hold onto your bags (i had an evening flight) and helped me call a taxi, and a great little convenience shop to check into. rooms are nicely air conditioned. kitchen is so so and the breakfast is just bread and jam. worst thing was that the wifi was really off and on and unreliable. worked at some points but was often non functioning which is a bit difficult to deal with

I stayed here on and off for 2 weeks in total in January-February. After this the male asian receptionist told me i was being kicked out for "eating in bed" because i ate a snickers bar to take my daily medicine. I also encountered 2 people "loving each other" in the showers, the cleaning lady tried scamming me with laundry, and the overweight cleaning lady was making jokes in french about me to other guests. The bathrooms are moldy and broken, everything is a mess. The only normal people i met there were the two male tahitian receptionists. Horrible place
Bogdan N — Google review
It was very dirty! Our room was disgusting : a old rolled towel on the floor (we understood later that was for the A/C dropping water while on use...) sheets dirty with hair and old stain... looked like the floor hadn't been clean for a while. Couldn't use the A/C because of the problem mentioned above so our room was very hot. old showers with just cold water. Breakfast was ok-ish. Orange juice taste like water. BUT it has a very good location : very close to the ferry, the market. Very central.
Hélène B — Google review
Very good location, but otherwise you get what you pay for. Very small room (a small double room), not big enough even to open a suitcase. Not the best air inside since there were no windows. But very ok for a night. The thing that did bother us was that there was no breakfast at all left at least 20' before the official end time and upon asking about it, staff just said "maybe tomorrow".
Irenej K — Google review
The staffs are pretty nice, and service is good. The cleaning is also very clean. We stayed in a private room on the third floor, which is very small. There is just enough space for one carry-on suitcase to open completely. Apart from a tiny nightstand on the side of the bed, no more space to put anything in the room. There is almost no wifi signal in the room. The common area would be full of people sleeping on the sofas overnight... Because we were in the closest room there, it would be noisy in the morning and evening. I didn‘t have a hot shower during the three nights I stayed. Three of the four showers were defective, some had shower heads that had to be held in hand without brackets, some had shelves placed 2m high and some had no hooks at all. In short, it is a good choice for short-term or overnight tourists. It is an excellent location and can walk around Papeete. The price is reasonable and includes basic breakfast. There are restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, massages, and bars nearby the accommodation. There are many advantages. I hope that some small details can be added and improved, and the shortcomings will disappear. It is a hostel with great potential!
Mae K — Google review
- Not all of the dorms have AC. All of the private bedrooms (for 1-2 ppl) are equipped w/ them. The 4-person dorm has AC💕 - Despite advertisements of wifi, as of early Jan 2024, the wifi does not work -- full stop. While it's true Tahiti is an island and you can't expect lightening speeds, you will not be able to even connect. I was not alone in experiencing this; almost every guest I spoke was similarly shut out. (Also, plenty of other places -- such as Simply Life bubble tea -- have perfect wifi! It's not a technological impossibility; it can absolutely be improved). The only wifi that works is the Mahana Spot 5G signal that you can access by being near the lobby. Please note this if you plan to do any work, you will have to make alternative arrangements. - The accommodations are very clean. The janitorial staff freq run the mop and sanitizes the WC/shower areas. Considering the intense foot traffic, I was thoroughly impressed by how relatively spotless the rooms & common areas were. - None of the nightlights work in the 4-bed dorm. - In the 2nd fl. 4-bed dorm, one top bunk was missing privacy curtains and also felt structurally unsound. The ladders that connect to the bunk beds were detached on the bottom rungs (secured only at the top) so that they rattle and make the person entering the top bunk feel very precarious. I was fortunate enough to be assigned the lower bunk (I was the first to arrive) but future roommates expressed trepidation 😔 I do wish management took safety and privacy concerns more seriously. - The mattresses are more like dense futons, similar to the fold-down futons in many hotter Asian countries. Personally, I prefer my beds on the firmer side and I had zero trouble falling asleep. But, I am warning other travelers who have difficulty sleeping on a thin bed. - Breakfast is bread loaves with an assortment of jams/jellies, small slices of cheese, and fresh-cut fruit. If carbs are not for you early in the morning, view breakfast as not included and get a snack from a roulette 😊 - Though pots & pans are available, cooking basics such as salt, pepper, and oil are not provided. - On the 2nd floor showers, the two on the right-hand side are mounted (hands-free), while the two on the left feature hand-held nozzles. - I did not use this amenity, but I was told that a towel & soap bundle can be bought (the towel, rented) for 500 fr. or ~$5. - While there is foreign presence, there are also a few guests that appear to be long-term residents. Locals will also use the lodge as a stopover. Some permanent lodgers use the 12-bed dorm as a cheap way to keep a roof over their heads. In summary, Mahana Lodge is an adequate for a place to crash while you go out and spend the rest of your day on other activities. It's clean, with polite & relatively responsive staff. All of the basics you need for an overnight stay are present. However, I also feel the heyday of this hostel peaked a few years ago, and since then they've rested on their laurels. I could tell that when this lodge first opened it was probably amazing -- a fair price (unbeatable in Tahiti) with modern amenities and lots of creature comforts. As the years wore on and more things broke, the incentive to fix anything back up to par wasn't there. There's enough work to do handling the daily influx of visitors, so it's probably difficult to find downtime to make repairs. Lastly: the staff does care about its visitors but won't necessarily show it verbally. They will try to fix things for you without fanfare / fuss, but won't necessarily be flashy about pleasantries, etc. In my opinion, it's much more important a problem is solved than being showered with empty words. In my stay they helped me charge my laptop and phone, provided directions to nearby places, refunded me a night's stay after an unfortunate incident with another guest (though, I had to make a request...), and even interfaced with the police. They reply to emails during the night within 5-10 minutes! They are there for you, but you need to be proactive and ask them for help 👍
Demie C — Google review
The hostel is in a great location, staff were excellent and felt safe and secure. Breakfast was basically a load of baguettes and is almost first come first serve. In my opinion most things were in need of an upgrade. The shower rooms in particular were not great. When I first arrived the room had bugs in the room. Ants and spider. This was sorted the next day but it does raise questions on the cleanliness. Noise seems to travel. If someone is talking on the phone you can hear it like it's in your ear when sleeping. The walls are thin.

Le Grillardin is a popular French-inspired eatery located in the heart of Papeete, offering delicious food made with local ingredients and Polynesian flavors. The restaurant is known for its welcoming atmosphere and convenient location near the city's ferry terminal. Guests have praised the restaurant for its excellent service, intimate ambiance, and reasonable prices. Dishes like Mussels baked with cheese, Mahi Mahi served with puff pastry, and Prawns in curry sauce have been highlighted as particularly delightful.
Arrived to our Saturday night reservation on time at 7:30p and restaurant was already extremely busy. For starters we ordered the Tuna Carpaccio and Escargot Nems. Tuna Carpaccio was well seasoned, but lacked a little acidity to our liking. Escargot Nems were extremely flavorful. For entrees, Duck Breast and Filet with a morel mushroom cream sauce. Both dish were delicious, and generously served. I was stuffed up by dessert time, but couldn't skip the fresh fruits with an orange liquor sabayon. Wine list was nice- wished it had a few more smaller wineries, but we managed to find a gem from the Loire valley. Really attentionate service. A very recommended place. One if not the best meal we had in French Polynesia.

What a surprise having lunch in this excellent restaurant...we walked by just by coincidence (the street isn't the nicest one) but behind that white dor we had a wonderful lunch. The menu offers a variety of traditional french plates with some local influence and they have a very good wine list. I deeply enjoyed my small bottle of Gewutztraminer which fit perfectly with my foie gras and scallops (also with foie gras). Absolutely recommended.

A shade disappointing 👎👎👎We wait an hour between the apetizers, the entrees, the bread and the main dish. The service was good, but not « gastronomique » as French understanding. The owner wasn’t welcoming, showing our table with her fingers and said « You table is on the corner », and keep talking with the waitress. The food was good but not like it used to be. The wine we took matched perfectly with the meat 👌The desert was really good. 👍The speciallity of Le Grillardin is « tarte aux pommes fine », it’s an apple pie with a thin crust, really tasty and yummy, with a vanilla ice cream. At the end, the owner asked us if we were satisfied of everything, as if she did’nt notice that we spent 3 hours waiting for the dish. When we answered no, she difdn’t apolozige and wished us a good night. For sure we will never go back to this restaurant.

Tahiti Pearl Market is a must-visit destination in Papeete, the vibrant capital of French Polynesia. It's known for its professional and friendly staff who offer a wide range of high-quality black pearls in various colors and settings. Visitors can enjoy a pressure-free shopping experience with excellent customer service. The market also provides free pick-up and drop-off services from hotels, making it convenient for tourists to explore and purchase beautiful pearl jewelry.
Went there twice. They bent backwards to make the perfect neckless for my wife… even bringing it personally to the airport, to make sure we had it on time for our anniversary. Went back again on our way back to buy some more. Highly recommended!

The wife and I highly recommend the Tahiti Pearl Market to you. This is a shop where you can choose your pearls from a large selection of different sizes and colours as well as a beautiful piece of jewellery to set them in. The staff are all very professional and friendly and the prices are fair considering the high service levels you will receive and the quality of the pearls.
Matt B — Google review
We had a great experience here. We came in close to closing time but we're given the utmost courtesy and time by Miti. She helped us pick out beautiful pearls for earrings for me, and for a necklace for our daughter and within half an hour they were ready to go. They even called a taxi for us to go back to our hotel. I can't say enough about the service and courtesy at this store!
Karen A — Google review
Had a great experience. They took the time to pick the right pearl that I wanted and color matched it to the earrings that I already had. Then they made a beautiful necklace out of it. Love the outcome. The pearls are not cheap compared to hat you can get in the Tuamotus or in other places, but the quality is great
Jasmin R — Google review
Best place to visit if you want to buy quality black pearls. They offer a free pick up and drop off to town from your hotel. The staff working there are so lovely and really kind bought a few gifts for family and they were all pleased with it. The team helped find the perfect pearls and did not pressure us buying anything. Customer service and quality is one of the best I have received. Merci beaucoup Tahiti Pearl Market.

So we went to three islands, Moorea, Bora Bora and finally Tahiti(Papeete). On the other islands we were told to go to the Tahiti Pearl Market and we are glad we did! They are real professionals, you choose your settings and the pearls. They have every quality and color. We ended up getting a double pendant necklace and a bracelet with higher quality and it is beautiful. The people are so nice, no hard sales and they explain everything. We got to watch our pearls being set. As someone who travels the world we highly recommend this business. If you are lucky you'll get helped by Yuka!

Got a bracelet for my daughter and single pearls for coworkers. Got a quick lesson from the Japanese sales lady, basically the bigger, the rounder, and less imperfection the better. Prices go up very quickly, from 10 dollars a pearl to thousands of dollars a pearl.
Shawn L — Google review
First class pearls! If your looking for a deal and cheap quality go to the street vendors. If you are looking for the best in real black Pearls and ready to put down the money for the real thing you can't miss here. All Pearls come with certificates. Got a peal pendant and set of pearl earrings to match. They set everything in gold in less then a half hour.

Brasserie des Remparts Tahiti is a charming spot that offers a delightful dining experience. The menu is impressive, featuring French-inspired dishes with a Polynesian twist, all made with locally sourced ingredients. The service is accommodating and the drink selection is great. The decor adds to the overall appeal of the place. Customers recommend trying the pistachio creme brulee for a delightful treat.
Hands down the best meal we had in Tahiti. Everything was so incredibly good. The bone marrow escargot duo is one of the best things I have ever eaten. We also had steak and duck, both incredibly delicious. Great service, great wine choices and overall well priced for quality and portions.

They opened for food at 1830. Menu was also in English. I had the Rack of Pork, which was absolutely delicious. The rest in our group enjoyed their selections but were jealous of my Iberian Pork. The sauce that came with it was incredible. Service was outstanding! They gave us a big table in the back corner, with some AC and the live band was very good and not too loud. We will definitely come back.
Peter G — Google review
We visited this place for a late lunch and found the restaurant empty. We ordered the pork and the steak—unfortunately, the pork was undercooked, and the steak arrived a little bloody despite requesting it medium-well. On a positive note, portion sizes were generous for the price point. We skipped drinks but enjoyed the pistachio crème brûlée, which was delicious.

Great spot for a relaxed meal with great food, drinks and service. The burger was great, cocktails worth a second and a good selection of wines. A real highlight was the rum baba. Would go back definitely.

Great location for dinner or a drink on your way home. The restaurant has been open there for more than 25 years. The dining room is well lit and air conditioned, very comfortable. Outside tables for those who smoke. Our friendly waiter, Maxime was very attentive with any of our food requests. The food was delicious, and of great quality. The drinks menu is extensive too so you will have good options. Yummy deserts with the lime and ginger rum baba a winner for me with the coconut ice cream. Thoroughly enjoyed this place.

This was our last meal in Tahiti and it was phenomenal!! The pluma pork and beef filet were incredible, as well as the apple tart dessert. Also they gave us fresh bread which was so crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Definitely worth the visit

Delicious dinner! Food was just perfect and the waiter helped us with white wine to decide. Really enjoyed it and would come again. Highly recommend it!
Zdenek D — Google review
When we got to the restaurant we weren't allowed to sit inside. They claimed they were cleaning it and it wasn't being cleaned at all. So we had to sit outside among people who were smoking cigarettes, which wasn't ideal when trying to eat. The service was very slow and it took at least 20 minutes for our order to be taken and it wasn't busy. The person who was serving us seemed like he didn't want to be at work and wasn't friendly. I dont know if it was because we dont speak French or what, but he wasn't pleasant. I ordered the Mahi Mahi dumplings, and they left a lot to be desired flavor wise. They were underseasoned or missing something I just can't put my finger on. My husband had a burger and fries, which he did enjoy. The dessert was delicious, and I would eat that every day. I just wish my main course was better. Overall, it was just ok and definitely not the best restaurant in Tahiti.

Hei in Papeete: A Culinary Odyssey with Notable Observations On the of November 3rd, 2024, my companion and I had the privilege of experiencing Hei in Papeete, where we embarked on the gastronomic adventure that their tasting menu promised. However, our journey was marked by several noteworthy observations. Our culinary voyage commenced with a meticulously presented dish of raw fish. It was, without a doubt, a flavorful creation; however, its diminutive portion size left us yearning for more. Given Tahiti's bountiful seafood offerings, we held an expectation of a more generous serving. The subsequent course, featuring shrimp dumplings, was pleasing to the palate but regrettably unexceptional. Throughout our meal, we encountered a recurring practice of suggestive upselling, which, over time, became somewhat intrusive. We reluctantly embraced the offer for a diminutive portion of black caviar at a premium price of $35, only to find the serving size to be disproportionately modest. In addition to our culinary exploration, we encountered unforeseen financial intricacies. A notable aspect was the additional charge of $45 for a trio of wine glasses. Equally unexpected was an extra $25 levy for selecting an alternative wine without prior disclosure. In the midst of these minor setbacks, it is crucial to acknowledge the positives. The cuisine at Hei, while not without its nuances, was, on the whole, enjoyable. However, in comparison to other dining establishments in Tahiti, the experience left us with a sense of it being marginally overhyped and slightly overpriced. The culinary craftsmanship of the chef was readily apparent, and the service and ambiance contributed positively to our evening. In summary, I would comfortably rate Hei at 4 out of 5 stars. While it is certainly a culinary destination worth exploring, I remain uncertain about a future return. My initial expectations for the overall dining experience were modestly higher.

This was a really nice culinary dining experience. We did a prix fixe menu and loved it. The presentation was beautifully presented, and the food was good. I appreciated the art of the food and effort put into it. The servers were able to explain each dish to us, in English none the less! They accommodated my 1 dietary restriction. This is certainly a special occasion restaurant. I called the restaurant 1 week prior to make a reservation. The restaurant does not have its own parking lot, so we parked about 1 block away.
Kimberly D — Google review
I agree with other reviewers -- this restaurant is a must! I'd definitely come here again if I get to spend a night in Tahiti. We were deciding between Le HEI and Le Lotus, and we were glad we came here. The restaurant doesn't exude conventional fine dining vibes, and you can tell this restaurant really focused on making the food and the service special. Food: foie gras, scallop, and the rest were all amazing. Their menu changes every month or so, and you might get something different. Service: Knowing that we don't speak French, they described their dishes in English, and we really appreciated it! One funny thing was that they put the spoon and the fork right on the edge. Any idea why they display the silverware this way?
Will H — Google review
WOW. Hands down one of the top 3 fine dining experiences I’ve had in a very long time. The local ingredients used were so well prepared and flavors all balanced and bright. Each course was so thoughtful. Service was sweet. Really impressed and definitely recommend coming here if you’re looking for an elevated dinner on Tahiti.
Wenter S — Google review
Vert Nice expérience and great food however I was a little disappointed with the fact that you feel they were try to sell extras to the menu. In my opinion this category of restaurants should have a set up menu with a price including everything. Why I should add caviar spoon at 3500xpf to complete my dish? Why they give me choice of 2 wines with the wine option and charge and extra cost for the second choice? In addition I consider that the quantity of real food meaning the quantity of fish/ meat that you get in your plate is very small. I enjoyed the meal and I consider that the plates were amazing elaborated but I missed to have maybe at least 2 scallops or 2 raviolis or bigger portion of meat… very attentive service.

The James Norman Hall Museum, located in the suburbs of Papeete, is a modest yet captivating tribute to the renowned American author. The museum is housed in the low-roofed property where Hall lived and contains over 3,000 books along with intriguing exhibits such as the author's typewriter and a model of the Bounty. Visitors can also enjoy a terrace-cum-tea room for a relaxing lunch.
What a gem! Well worth traveling by bus or car from Papeete to Arue to tour this house and learn about the Hall family. Easy parking in the small lot right across the street. And if Vivian is there, being shown around by her and hearing her personal stories about the family is a real treat. The museum should have videos with her talks to preserve her valuable knowledge!

A really nice museum for the author of Muriny on the Bounty. We went as part of a tour after disembarking from the cruise ship; I wasn't really into this stop but have to admit I was unexpectedly impressed. James Hall flew with the Escodrille Lafayette, an American volunteer fighter squadron in France 🇫🇷 in WWI. These were some brave, badass dudes risking their lives when they didn't have to. Huge respect for these heroes.

Le Soufflé is a charming restaurant that offers an authentic Parisian bistro experience in Polynesia. Specializing in both savory and sweet soufflés, the menu features a variety of flavors such as goat cheese, roast duck, smoked tuna, and vanilla caramel. Guests have praised the excellent food and customer service, recommending dishes like mushroom garlic appetizers and various soufflés paired with wine.
We had an amazing lunch here. The food and service were fantastic! The lamb was so tender and flavorful and the beef and risotto were excellent! We were glad we ordered the dessert soufflé with our meal because it was so delicious. The soufflé was so light that it was the perfect dessert!

This little sweet restaurant serves very good food. We each had a souffle which was really nicely done. I had the Cheesy Leeks, Taro Soufflé and my husband had the Country Soufflé. Both were distinct and completely different. The stand out to me was the amuse-bouche! It was delicious. Travelers - be aware that the city shuts down around 4p and dinner service doesn't start until 6:30-7. Also, consider making reservations. We walked in but there was only one table left.

We totally enjoyed our dinner at Le Soufflé last night and would highly recommend it. They started us off with a complementary soup which was delicious and we both had the lobster and shrimp soufflé as our entrees. It had just right combination of seafood. The dinner was topped off with the delicious vanilla soufflé. Amazing! The service was great as well!

An extremely cozy, intimate, and quiet atmosphere; perfect for a date night. We ordered the tomato/mozzarella/pesto soufflé, the salmon tagliatelle, and the vanilla/chocolate/caramel soufflé for dessert, with recommendations from our waitress. Everything was excellent! The soufflés were well worth the wait.

Rich, authentic French cuisine, best and only place in town putting out quality sweet and savory soufflés! Perfectly cooked filet, nice twist with the Brie cheese on top with sauce. Sweet soufflés are killer, Snickers dessert soufflé wins the prize.

Wonderful food…wonderful customer service! My husband and I ate dinner here before our midnight flight back to LA. The food was excellent! We shared a mushroom garlic appetizer and 2 soufflés (1 seafood and 1 dessert) plus several glasses of wine. The food was so tasty, well presented and the customer service made me wish le soufflé existed in LA! They even created two smaller seafood soufflé for us so we didn’t have to split the large soufflé over the table. Next time we visit Tahiti, we will definitely visit Le Soufflé!

The food was definitely a mixture of Tahitian and Chinese. I ordered the salt and pepper calamari expecting a traditional savory Chinese dish. It was oddly sweet with an unknown batter. The food wasn’t bad but definitely was not great. It was also incredibly noisy as a large party had reserved a room, but was not separated from everyone else
Keiko W — Google review
How can a restaurant be totally out of chicken, beef, duck and pork and still be open? Was forced to order seafood, and the shrimp pad thai was mediocre at best, probably because I personally strongly prefer chicken for a dish like that. Went in at 8pm on a Monday night, with several other parties with what looked like protein besides seafood only. Bizarre experience.

Great Chinese food. Inside was modern, updated and air conditioned. Great attentive service throughout. Ordered schooner (1000ml) of Hinano Blonde...very refreshing, worked great with the food (1,000). 3 meat chow mein was good (1,950): generous portions and used thin crispy noodles that softened nicely with the brown sauce. 3 meat fried rice used no soy sauce, so not overly salty, nicely seasoned. The whole meal cost 4,500 which is good value, considering where we are. The main hostess was super attentive and very nice. Definitely worth stopping in, if in the area.

Absolutely fabulous tour of Tahiti! Highly recommend. My husband and I had a bike each and had a fantastic time. Very personalised activity and it was just amazing to be in the heart of the valley. It's very spiritual and beautiful. The swim in the waterfall was just glorious. We had the place to ourselves. Lunch snack& drink was delicious. Leila was accommodating and flexible with our booking as we were only at Tahiti for the day with our cruise ship. She organised pick up and drop off at the port and fits in with the ship's schedule. I did misunderstand one thing- I thought the 4 1/2hrs included travel from the port so I booked something afterwards. However it didn't include travel so we had to cut the quad tour short. If getting transferred to and from the port, allow 6 hrs in total not 4 1/2...then you can enjoy it to the fullest. Thankyou Laila and son (I'm so sorry I've forgotten his name) for an unforgettable day on Tahiti! So much more fun and special than driving in a truck just looking at the environment. We were fully immersed and of course had the bonus of the swimming too! 100% recommend. If one of you would like to snap pictures as you ride then consider sharing a quad, otherwise there are opportunities to stop and get pictures. PS if you don't have cash you will need your physical credit card.

Family run operation, very warm and welcoming. Overall a very nice and efficiently run tour. The views were stunning throughout. 4 hour round trip, small lunch provided at the halfway point as well as the opportunity to swim in a waterfall. Make sure to wear sunglasses to protect against the dust- if we could do it again we would have worn a bandanna.

Such a great day! Beautiful views and then a swim under a waterfall. Rahiti was an excellent, patient, and friendly guide and gave us a local's knowledge of the valley. If you do one thing in Tahiti, go on this quad tour!
Joan — Google review
Incredible experience not just for the joy of riding through the interior of the island, but an opportunity to learn from the Polynesian peoples themselves of their love for this valley full of ancestral sprits. Astounding vistas crossing rivers, splashing in the puddles joyfully, visit a sacred Marae and walk to a secluded waterfall.
Alberto D — Google review
We had an unforgettable experience journeying into the heart of the island. The scenery of the valley is awe-inspring and Rahiti was the best guide we could have asked for. Mauruuru roa Rahiti and family!
Reilly V — Google review
This was our favorite activity on Tahiti. Going by ATV gave us the chance to take in everything. The adventure felt very personalized with one guide, Rahiti, and just our two ATVs. We stopped at several culturally significant places and we were given time to soak up the beauty. Our kids loved being able to swim in the pond with the waterfall. Our youngest said he loved that the tour wasn't just about the ATVs; Rahiti spent time explaining Tahitian culture and the connection with all the Pacific Islands, the flora, and the seasons.

Great tour! It was a rainy day so we had lots of puddles to go through and rough road made it all fun. Into a beautiful valley and center of the extinct island volcano. Very nice people- family owned business. Highly recommend!

The Tomb of King Pōmare V, originally the resting place of Queen Pōmare IV, now houses the cremated remains of Tahiti's final monarch. Despite its small size and somewhat challenging location to find, it is a site rich in history. Surrounded by beautiful grounds and located near a picturesque beach, it offers visitors an intriguing glimpse into Tahiti's royal past.
Nice little walk around, pretty little rock pools to look at nearby
Erin S — Google review
I thought the tomb was very cool. However, there was no explanation and you cannot go inside. It's also kind of hidden behind the church. It's a good spot to visit if it's in route of where you want to go. Otherwise it may be a little disappointing if you purposely drive there to visit the tomb.

OK, don't hate on me, please, but the tomb it's self is kinda boring it's cool to see once, but only once, BUT the beach is pretty nice. I see locals here all the time. The building around the tomb is also interesting. So it gets 3 out of 5.

The tomb is nice, but seen in the blink of an eye. Locals who were cleaning it said that it is "a tabu" and can't be visited inside.

Bed & breakfast
Hime Lodge is a cozy and convenient accommodation option for travelers in Tahiti. It offers clean and comfortable private rooms with shared bathrooms, making it an ideal choice for those needing a place to stay before catching a flight or ferry. The lodge's simple yet cheerful rooms feature matching bedding and curtains, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Guests rave about the amazing shower with quick heating and good water pressure. The owner, Vanessa, and her daughter are praised as extraordinary hosts who make visitors feel truly welcome.
Very nice atmosphere, central location and welcoming owners. They try their best to put each guest alone in each dorm room, so when it’s not too busy you may very well have a room to yourself.

Nice, cosy place. Exactly like on the pictures. No AC in the double room, but you're alright with the fan. Plenty of common area. Check in instructions sent by WhatsApp. Parking is on the street and it's supposedly safe.

The staff were lovely and for tahiti the price was reasonable as the dorm rooms only have two beds so it's was basically like a private twin with shared bathroom. The shared kitchen was handy and had the basics, although the nearby supermarket had ready made meals which was a great option for cheap tasty dinner. It's close to town, perhaps 10-12 mins from the water, and 15min walk to the port. The beds were not comfortable, the mattresses were so thin and the base of the one I slept on was like a hospital bed with wheels and the metal bars could be felt through the mattress. The shared bathroom was reasonably cleaned although we stayed two nights and bin wasnt emptied or bathroom cleaned in that time. Towels aren't provided as part of dorm price. 150pf per towel if needed.

The rooms are excellent and the dorms are great because they have only 2 beds. There is a lot of space to seat around. Breakfast is included. It's very clean and everything is new. The owner is the best. She will help with any issues, drive you around and treat you like family. Highly recommend this lodge and I will come again

My friend and I were backpacking Tahiti and Moorea, we were planning to only stay here one night but we liked it so much we ended up staying for a second! The host Vanessa is incredibly gracious and hospitable; her kindness and warmth made us feel right at home in the lodge. We stayed in a private room for two, and the facilities in the lodge were great - the rooms, bathrooms and common areas were clean and tidy, and our stay here was very comfortable throughout. I would highly recommend this place for anyone hoping to visit Tahiti on a budget, and will definitely be staying here the next time I’m around!

Well we booked it because it was the cheapest but still nice option … but it was crazy loud at night! At 1:00 am there was extremely loud music from the neighbor house and also loud voices, we couldn’t sleep anymore, great when you have to get up at 5am … also you hear every person using the bathroom at night. Nice is that there is a kitchen where you can cook because restaurants are too expansive anyways… 10 min walk to the ferry station No Moskito net!

We vactioned in Moorea and needed a place to stay in Tahiti before our flight home. Hime was very close to the ferry. We had a private room with a full bed and shared bath. The room was clean and comfortable and the two bathrooms were very conveniently located. The room was very simple-a bed and a desk- but bedding and curtains matched and the room was very cheerful. The shower was amazing- heated up quickly and had very good water pressure. The owner is delightful and we felt like welcome guests. Highly recommended if you need a room as a stopover in Tahiti for a night or are looking for a clean welcoming option on a budget.

I stayed here for 5 nights and it was very lovely. The owner is super nice and the property has everything you need. It has sitting space outside. The rooms are clean. You have a kitchen to cook your own meals. Easy to walk to town. Close to bus stop
