Bridge is 800 years old, great condition, oblong building, fascinating history. Locals told us that the walk along the river is great. Plenty of places for a cuppa in town afterwards.
Nice little old bridge and a look over in to the river. You probably won't spend more than 5-10 minutes here, but nice to see when visiting Monmouth.
Very old bridge located in Monmouth. One very impressive piece of history that dates almost a thousand years ago. Highly recommended stop for free.
Fascinating-If only you could go inside woukd be 5☆
Old Bridge. Interesting history. Car park right next to it. No traffic can go over the bridge so you can lay down in the road but beware if you lay down you might get stepped on. And there was some dog poo under the left side arch.
Amazingly preserved tower upon one of the approaches to Monmouth. Such a delight to spend a few hours exploring the town and learn a little more about the importance of this part of the country in our history.
Lovely old medieval bridge in Monmouth. Obviously, pedestrian only.
The Monnow Bridge is a historic landmark in the city of Monmouth, Wales. This impressive stone bridge, believed to have been built in the early 13th century, spans the Monnow River and provides a vital crossing point for both pedestrians and vehicles. As an admirer of historic architecture, I was immediately struck by the Monnow Bridge's elegant and enduring design. Its sturdy stone pillars and rounded arches offer a glimpse into the engineering and craftsmanship of the medieval period. The views from the bridge are also stunning, with the picturesque river and surrounding greenery creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere. In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the Monnow Bridge is also a testament to the enduring legacy of Welsh history. It has withstood the test of time and remains a vital part of Monmouth's identity and heritage. Visitors to the area should definitely take the time to cross the bridge and experience its charm for themselves. Overall, the Monnow Bridge is a fascinating and historically significant attraction that is well worth a visit. Its unique design and stunning location make it an excellent destination for both tourists and locals alike.

A fabulous old venue. Go and watch a show, and see for yourself how lovely it is.
This wonderful and historical theatre is nestled in a small cafe-lined alley in the beautiful town of Monmouth. We spent the whole day here when we attended a recent film festival and we were struck by the level of care and hard work the volunteers who run the theatre clearly do on a day-to-day basis.
A lovely old theatre with helpful staff, a very small bar area but a bar setup in the auditorium to get drinks and take back to your seat. Surprisingly, plenty of leg room between the seats.
It's like going back in time ...wonderful place great movie screen great sound. really clean ..... Refreshments from coffee to cider sweets to popcorn 🍿 My go to cinema from now on ..... You wont be dissapointed!!!! Take some leaflets home with you and share them with your friends and family..... Support local... 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿😘🍿😇👏
We had a very strange and condescending interaction from a member of the savoy theatre staff. We definitely got a ‘there is nothing for you here vibe’ from a staff member on the door. A simple question of what is on tonight was met with the reply ‘nothing on’. The man wouldn’t even look us in the eye. Luckily everyone else we spoke to in Monmouth seemed very kind and welcoming.
Grade 2 listed in need of decoration. Saved from demolition and operates both as a theatre and a cinema. Run by enthusiastic volunteers and a professional core crew. It hosted the Talking Pictures TV film weekend @talkingpicsTV (really good two day bash!) One of several held around the country during the year.
Not your average multi plex but a blast from the past! Watch in a cinema just like it used to be and all the better for it. Give it a go you won't be disappointed.
Love this little retro hideaway! It's perfect for a cosy evening watching a film. It's surprisingly quiet too and, in turn, very reasonably priced. It's our new go-to cinema, even if we have to wait a while to see what we want.

Free entry to small museum in old barracks covering the Monmouthshire Royal Engineers. Open Apr-Oct.

The Museum proper is only open April to October, so be warned. However, the Castle grounds and vehicles on display outside the museum are accessible at all times. I am an Armoured Vehicle journalist and enthusiast so went to photograph the vehicles outside. It's nice that you can get up close to them, and they are generally in good condition. It would be nice to see a roof over them at some point however.
Fantastic place to visit couldn't go in due to time getting back on coach but looked amazing from the outside and would have been a brilliant defence in the war lots of disabled access available toilets facilities in main city and parking as well plus buses run through it as well
Lovely volunteer run museum and it's free to go around. What's not to like
I visited this great small museum earlier today. The staff were lovely and genuinely excited to talk about the history on display. It was a great experience!
The old gentleman was very helpful and briefed me about the most important events of the history R.M.R.E. He also gave me tips on what to do in the city. The museum is small but there are many interesting pieces from all around the world inside. Definitely worth peeking inside especially if you are interested in military history.
Fascinating small museum telling the history of the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers - some very interesting experiences of people who were at Dunkirk. Really friendly and helpful volunteer staff.
Weapons, photos and old newspapers, costumes are very nice in this museum. Monmouth castle was very poor. There was only walls left. But you have to see
Very interesting and the man there was very polite and helpful

Lovely museum, they got all kinds of memorabilia from Nelson which makes for an interesting exhibition. They also have some nice paintings from Maciag. The women at the desk was very helpful and we had a nice chat. I liked it.
The art gallery is bigger than the museum area. Some of the 'Nelson pieces' are first rate and very interesting viewing. At least it's free!
Permanently closed. It was closed during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom and did not re-open thereafter.
The Nelson Museum in Monmouth is a free to enter museum holding a collection of Nelson memorabilia. This was possible because of Lady Llangattock donating her collection to the town. She was a Victorian with lots of money who collected anything to do with Nelson. Some of it is literally souvenirs like jugs with his name on just like today’s collectors. However it also contains a huge collections of documents and unique personal items of which only a fraction is on display. A good place to visit for an hour or so if you are a Nelson fan.
Pleasant, understated local museum with exhibitions and a Lord Nelson collection. There is some seating and a small shop, good postcards. Very nice staff. Sited in town centre amidst the Blue Plaque Trail
Strange place. The art gallery is bigger than the museum area. Some of the 'Nelson pieces' are first rate and very interesting viewing. Woman in the reception was on the phone when we arrived and still on it when we left. At least it's free!
A number of exhibits and items related to Horatio Nelson, some of which are one off pieces. There are a number of other exhibits to visit in the museum too. Admission is free and it is a good place to spend an hour or so.
In the middle of Monmouth this museum is a great find. Free to enter. Well kept & available for hire. I often sit outside on the benches & watch the world go by. But have been inside & learnt a bit about the chartist riots court case

Monmouth town centre is full of interesting old buildings, including the Shire Hall. Some places are starting to put up Xmas decorations too, which is lovely.
Lovely place and full of historical interest. Good photo exhibition and great informative videos on history of Monmouth including much about the Chartist movement. Lovely lady who greets you at the entrance, and is very informative and friendly. Really knowledgeable, especially about the Chartists, who were tried at the upstairs courthouse, in 1840. Really enjoyed my visit. Would highly recommend!
Well worth a visit especially if you are interested in Newport Rising. Had a wonderful afternoon here. Very interesting to walk in the steps that John Frost walked and to stand in the court room and also dress up and then go down to the cells. And the staff were just amazing and chatted to us for a bit about John Frost.
Experience the old courthouse at Monmouth for free with interactive role play and a walkaround the old courthouse with glimpses of what happens to the accused a great add to your trip to Monmouth
An amazing place to visit.. the Courtroom, cells are history are amazing.. A great place to visit for a hour..
Interesting building to visit, we enjoyed dressing up in the court room and exploring the cells. Free to enter but donations welcome.
Wow what a gem of a museum and a bonus that its free, I had no idea shire hall was the court room used to find John Frost guilty. Very good video on the trial, so interesting, plus you can also dress up. You can also see the holding cells. Lots to see very good for children well worth a visit.
Well worth a look if you're in town. Entry was free and the staff were very helpful. The stairs from the court room to the cells are a little steep but there is a lift available if needed.

St Mary's Priory Church in Monmouth is a captivating blend of historical grandeur and spiritual tranquility. This architectural gem, nestled in the heart of Monmouth, serves not just as a place of worship but as a living chronicle of the town's rich history and heritage. With its roots stretching back to the 12th century, St Mary's Priory Church has stood as a witness to centuries of history, evolving through the ages to become the stunning site it is today. Its impressive structure, characterized by beautiful Gothic windows and a striking tower, speaks volumes of the medieval craftsmanship and religious fervor of its time. Inside, the church is a haven of peace, with its serene atmosphere inviting reflection and contemplation. The stained glass windows cast colorful patterns of light across the ancient stone, bringing to life the stories of saints and scholars associated with Monmouth's past. The church is not just about architectural beauty; it's a tapestry of historical and cultural threads, from its founding by the Benedictine monks to its role in the community today. It's a place where history is palpable, and the past resonates with every step you take through its hallowed halls.
We love this church it is beautiful inside and out,I especially love the stained glass I highly recommend it.
Really good architecture, really like old buildings, and this didn't disappoint, the trees in the garden are really lovely, definitely worth a look if you're in the area.
An impressive parish church, first built in Norman style, but with a 14th century tower. Unfortunately, it was not open to the public (on a Friday) when I visited.
It's a beautiful Church building and seems quite old. We went to the Haberdashers concert of the Messiah with their orchestra and choir. It was a brilliant evening. We will be back to see the church again and learn of its history.
Enjoyed the experience of this high Anglican church. Wonderful music. Welcoming vicar, and a wonderful welcoming bunch of parishioners. Can't forget the experience. I already spoken about them to a few friends. Very positive vibe, and people. God bless them.
Beautiful building with aheavy scent in the air from the morning's service, excellently carved marble memorial plaques, woodwork and iron work exquisite inside, stained glass windows by Charles Eamer Kempe in the 1880's (look out for his trademark wheatsheaves) and the most interesting gravestone in the Churchyard that I have ever seen. Excellent disabled access too.
Incredible and inspiring concert to acknowledge the sterling work of the support services during the recent flooding. Also to raise funds for the households and businesses directly impacted. Fantastic evening
