Historic Sites
Monnow Bridge, located in Monmouth, Wales, is a 13th-century fortified bridge with a gate tower that still stands today. It is the only bridge of its kind in Britain. Originally built in timber and later reconstructed with Old Red Sandstone in 1272, the bridge spans the River Monnow with three archways. The tower was added between 1297 and 1315 to defend the border town of Monmouth during medieval times.
Bridge is 800 years old, great condition, oblong building, fascinating history. Locals told us that the walk along the river is great. Plenty of places for a cuppa in town afterwards.
Anna E — Google review
Nice little old bridge and a look over in to the river. You probably won't spend more than 5-10 minutes here, but nice to see when visiting Monmouth.
Matt- F — Google review
Very old bridge located in Monmouth. One very impressive piece of history that dates almost a thousand years ago. Highly recommended stop for free.

Amazingly preserved tower upon one of the approaches to Monmouth. Such a delight to spend a few hours exploring the town and learn a little more about the importance of this part of the country in our history.

Lovely old medieval bridge in Monmouth. Obviously, pedestrian only.
Valerie H — Google review
The Monnow Bridge is a historic landmark in the city of Monmouth, Wales. This impressive stone bridge, believed to have been built in the early 13th century, spans the Monnow River and provides a vital crossing point for both pedestrians and vehicles. As an admirer of historic architecture, I was immediately struck by the Monnow Bridge's elegant and enduring design. Its sturdy stone pillars and rounded arches offer a glimpse into the engineering and craftsmanship of the medieval period. The views from the bridge are also stunning, with the picturesque river and surrounding greenery creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere. In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the Monnow Bridge is also a testament to the enduring legacy of Welsh history. It has withstood the test of time and remains a vital part of Monmouth's identity and heritage. Visitors to the area should definitely take the time to cross the bridge and experience its charm for themselves. Overall, the Monnow Bridge is a fascinating and historically significant attraction that is well worth a visit. Its unique design and stunning location make it an excellent destination for both tourists and locals alike.
Samuele B — Google review
I’m giving this 5* primarily on its historic significance. Monnow Bridge in Monmouth isn't just any old bridge; it's a medieval marvel that has stood the test of time, offering a unique glimpse into the past with every step you take across it. As the last surviving fortified river bridge in Britain with its gate tower standing proudly on the bridge itself, it's like walking through a portal to the 13th century. Originally built to defend the town, Monnow Bridge has seen centuries come and go, with its stones bearing witness to countless stories. The charm of the bridge lies not just in its historical significance but also in its picturesque setting, making it a photographer's dream and a history enthusiast's delight. Strolling across this ancient structure, you can't help but feel a deep connection to the generations that have crossed it before you. The bridge isn't just a crossing point over the River Monnow; it's a monument to medieval engineering, resilience, and the rich tapestry of Welsh history.

Monmouth Caravan Park

RV park
Monmouth Caravan Park is a family-owned campsite with a lively atmosphere and a welcoming on-site pub. The park offers beautiful meals at the clubhouse, and guests can enjoy an extended stay on their pitch until mid-afternoon when they have Sunday lunch. The site provides a lovely rural backdrop with great views and is just an 8-minute walk into Monmouth town. Additionally, there are clean facilities, including toilets with hot water and a washing-up area.
A year and half ago we came an across this beautiful site situated in the lovely town of Monmouth We was welcomed by the lovely owners and staff , we couldn’t wait to put our name down on the waiting list and luckily was able to obtain a 12 month Seasonal pitch. It’s got everything you need to make a home from home. Just to mention a few, the site is kept absolutely immaculate. The community on site really has family feel where everyone will offer their helping hand where ever they can. Shower and toilet block is always spotless. The dog friendly Clubhouse has a great vibe with events throughout the year which always brings everyone together off site. We’ve made so many friends and look forward to the next season ahead. Sunday Lunch is a must before we leave most weekends it’s beautiful. The site is so peaceful at night unlike other sites people are always respectable where loud music is never a problem. Its minutes walk to local pubs, restaurants cafes etc.Endless walks around the wye Valley and Offers dyke national park which was very important to us. Recently read a very negative review I was very shocked in reading but can honestly say in the nearly 2 seasons on site we’ve been welcomed every weekend and always there offering help if you need any and as for the loud party and music definitely not. We highly recommended it for a seasonal pitch and also your week/weekends away you definitely won’t be disappointed.
Nathan S — Google review
This caravan park really ticks all the boxes for us. After many years of touring and trying to find a site that offered the peace and quiet we wanted to relax but had pubs, restaurants and shops within walking distance, we had almost given up when we stumbled across this site. We were fortunate to secure a 12 month seasonal pitch just over 2 years ago and haven't looked back. In addition to the town with a good choice of places to eat and shops being within an easy walking distance of under 10 minutes, the club have their own dog friendly clubhouse serving bar meals and an excellent Sunday roast which we can highly recommend. The park is peaceful and quiet and a lovely setting, yet a stones throw from Monmouth town. The park itself is clean, beautifully presented and immaculately clean. The owners and all staff at the campsite are friendly and helpful without being overbearing and there is a sense of community on the site where everyone is friendly and passes the time of day with you. We enjoy mostly every weekend and the occasional week up there and it's a lovely relaxing place to be. Highly recommend.
Kirsty C — Google review
We had an annual pitch but following being flooded and losing our caravan (site has been flooded previously but we weren’t informed of this) we have been faced with nothing but belligerence from the site staff and owners. Don’t ask to move pitch to a higher location as response will be; this is a caravan park not a merry-go-round. Thankfully there were a few lovely couples on the site which we are so pleased to have met. Needless to say we will be moving on not trusting our new van with potential of flood and certainly won’t miss the loud weekend parties from groups of vans pitching up to celebrate birthdays etc during the summer months. Only good comment is toilets and showers were very clean hence the 2 stars.
Caroline C — Google review
Excellent clean and well maintained. Small site. Showers, toilets, water, and waste disposal. X 2 dogs allowed included in the price. A bar that opens from 6.30-11am. Food stops at 8.30pm. Cans available at £4.00 each. A short walk into town. The food was excellent. If you stay for Sunday lunch, you can leave for 3 pm, i believe. Would stay again. Thank you.
Laura D — Google review
Update - beautiful meals now available at the clubhouse. Sunday lunch even comes with a free, extended stay on your pitch until mid-afternoon !! Lovely rural backdrop, great views, while being a short and level, 8 min walk into Monmouth town. Award-winning chippy 2 mins walk away, alongside a co-op. Town has a good-sized Waitrose, some excellent restaurants, beautiful walks etc. Proprietors are lovely. Atmosphere friendly. Loos always very clean with plenty of hot water, as is washing up area. Site has been renovated, with all pitches now level hardstanding. Clubhouse up and running. Yat rock just 15 mins drive away !

What a beautiful find! Hubby suggested Monmouth for an overnight stay in our campervan. I found Monmouth Caravan Park via Google. We arrived and were greeted by the owner. Checking in was straightforward, and we were shown onto the site. There's a friendly bar on site, serving food and drinks. Immaculate toilets and shower facilities, beautiful views, and just a 5 minute walk to town. We really enjoyed our stay. We had a fab night in the bar, and the food was lovely. Thank you to all the staff who made us so welcome. We'll definitely be back!
Lesley C — Google review
A great place to stay with your caravan or motorhome. Very clean and tidy and that includes the toilets and showers. The place is ideally situated on the outskirts of the town, which is only a short walk away.
Bob — Google review
What a great site. I came across it by chance on line and booked 2 nights from 25/02/2025. We were welcomed onto the park and shown to our pitch which was perfect and could tether our two dogs right next to our motorhome. The owners are very friendly and chatty. The site is absolutely spotless and well kept as are the toilets, showers and wash up areas. It is also lovely and quiet. :Location is perfect and very close to town, just a 5 minute walk away. Great lane and fields where we could exercise the dogs right next door. They have a club house and do food but at the moment only open on the weekend. It would be lovely to sample that and prices were very reasonable on the menu. We will definitely return though I would have thought you would have to book quite a few weeks in advance. Could not fault one this about it.

Castell Trefynwy/Monmouth Castle

4.0

Castle
Historical place
Monmouth Castle, dating back to the 11th century, is a historical gem with intriguing ruins. The Lost City of Trellech Project's archaeological dig nearby offers a chance to delve into the area's Roman history and even try your hand at archaeology. A stroll along the three miles of riverside walks allows you to take in historic landmarks like Wye bridge and Monnow bridge while observing various bird species.
Is always nice to see a castle, though or is a ruin, it is still steeped in history. As is Monmouth. This is a very historic town. Henry V was born there, and their connection with the military stems back hundreds of years to the present day. Its a nice place to while away the hours or walk along the river minnow, and they have a nice selection of places to eat or drink and some nice shops too. Or it on your planes to visit.
Andy M — Google review
Monmouth Castle is a site steeped in history, standing as a proud reminder of Monmouth's strategic importance through the centuries. Birthplace of Henry V, one of England's most famed kings, this castle whispers tales of medieval might and royal legacy. Founded in the late 11th century, Monmouth Castle has witnessed significant historical events, evolving from a Norman fortress to a symbol of English power in Wales. Although much of the original structure has succumbed to time, the remaining ruins still offer a fascinating glimpse into the past. As you explore the remnants of this once-mighty castle, you're walking in the footsteps of knights, nobles, and even a future king. The site's historical plaques bring to life the stories of sieges, royal births, and the strategic importance of Monmouth in controlling the Welsh Marches. Despite the passage of time, Monmouth Castle remains a poignant landmark in the town's landscape. Its ruins serve not just as a historical attraction but as a testament to the rich tapestry of British and Welsh history intertwined within these walls.

Nestled in the heart of Agincourt Square, Shire Hall is a stunning Grade II listed building that dates back to 1724. Originally constructed on the site of an Elizabethan market hall, this architectural gem served as the hub for Assize Courts and Quarter Sessions in Monmouthshire. Its historical significance peaked during the trial of Chartist leader John Frost and his associates for high treason following the Newport Rising in 1839/40.
Monmouth town centre is full of interesting old buildings, including the Shire Hall. Some places are starting to put up Xmas decorations too, which is lovely.

Lovely place and full of historical interest. Good photo exhibition and great informative videos on history of Monmouth including much about the Chartist movement. Lovely lady who greets you at the entrance, and is very informative and friendly. Really knowledgeable, especially about the Chartists, who were tried at the upstairs courthouse, in 1840. Really enjoyed my visit. Would highly recommend!
Martin S — Google review
Well worth a visit especially if you are interested in Newport Rising. Had a wonderful afternoon here. Very interesting to walk in the steps that John Frost walked and to stand in the court room and also dress up and then go down to the cells. And the staff were just amazing and chatted to us for a bit about John Frost.

Interesting exhibits - you can see the cramped holding cells in the basement then go upstairs to see the courtroom in all it's grandeur. There's also an exhibition of local history and a gift shop. Well worth stopping in for an hour or two to have a good poke around

Wow what a gem of a museum and a bonus that its free, I had no idea shire hall was the court room used to find John Frost guilty. Very good video on the trial, so interesting, plus you can also dress up. You can also see the holding cells. Lots to see very good for children well worth a visit.

The Savoy Theatre is a historic venue in Wales that offers a variety of entertainment options, including stand-up comedy, drama, and musical performances. It also screens the latest mainstream movies. Stepping into this well-preserved Victorian theater feels like traveling back in time with its luxurious velvet curtains and ticket office. As the oldest theater in Wales, it provides visitors with a unique experience to enjoy cinema screenings or live shows.
A fabulous old venue. Go and watch a show, and see for yourself how lovely it is.

This wonderful and historical theatre is nestled in a small cafe-lined alley in the beautiful town of Monmouth. We spent the whole day here when we attended a recent film festival and we were struck by the level of care and hard work the volunteers who run the theatre clearly do on a day-to-day basis.

A lovely old theatre with helpful staff, a very small bar area but a bar setup in the auditorium to get drinks and take back to your seat. Surprisingly, plenty of leg room between the seats.

We had a very strange and condescending interaction from a member of the savoy theatre staff. We definitely got a ‘there is nothing for you here vibe’ from a staff member on the door. A simple question of what is on tonight was met with the reply ‘nothing on’. The man wouldn’t even look us in the eye. Luckily everyone else we spoke to in Monmouth seemed very kind and welcoming.

Grade 2 listed in need of decoration. Saved from demolition and operates both as a theatre and a cinema. Run by enthusiastic volunteers and a professional core crew. It hosted the Talking Pictures TV film weekend @talkingpicsTV (really good two day bash!) One of several held around the country during the year.

Whoever made the new sensory area in the soft play happen, well done!! It is awesome and children absolutely love it. So nice to see something like this being done, can’t thank you enough!
Robin J — Google review
Review of the pool. Some days it’s 2 stars. Some days it’s 3. It’s somewhere in the middle. The pool is decent but it can run very cold (my daughter always wears a wetsuit) and the changing rooms are unbearably cold in the winter. The floor isn’t kept clean nor dry in the changing rooms and it often smells strongly of urine. The toilets and changing cubicles are typically fine. You need a £1 for the lockers. The staffing levels tend to be off — usually not enough so you can wait a long time just to get in for a session and they stop you getting changed if the current swim lesson session runs over so you’re paying for less time. If you join a family fun swim session (only 45 mins) late or even from the beginning you can’t be in the pool for the next public swim slot that is 3 hours even though you pay the same for the 3 hours as you would for 45 mins. A handful of toys and some armbands doesn’t make it worthwhile. The pool is well set up for children. They have a small slide and the edges of the pool meet the water level which makes it easy to get in and out. The membership is a pain: they have an app but managing the membership is all done over the phone or via email.
Joe B — Google review
Will definitely keep visiting when in the area. Pros - Really good venue, helpful staff, excellent soft play area, affordable, enough parking. Cons - App for booking is OK but a little truncated, squash courts are average quality (slightly soft flooring so less bounce), swimming lessons for toddlers requires commitment for a lot of sessions.
Andrew B — Google review

Great campsite, open field so can pitch however you like, I was able to launch the kayak direct from the campsite for a small fee to pay towards the upkeep of the launch point. The Monmouth canoe team were even kind enough to bring us and our boats back from Whitebrook.

Just got back from a fabulous 2hr canoe along the river. Lovely to see the swans and their signets. As well as many other birds and ducks. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Despite my husband and I being OAP's the 2 hrs was perfect.

brilliant canoe hire, really friendly and caring older couple who run it. when you arrive they set you up with the equipment and they give you a really informative and detailed briefing of the route. you then head to the river bank by the rowing club where your canoes are waiting. a really scenic route to whitebrook passing bridges and a few small rapids. lovely pub the boat half way.

Brilliant experience. We hired a 3 person canoe for a half day, from Monmouth to Whitebrook. Good instructions on the route before we set off and collected in a minibus at the end to take us back to the start. Loads of wildlife on the river - Herons, Kingfishers, and my favourite, a Dipper.

Had a brilliant 4 hrs canoeing along the river Wye. Weather was a bonus ( nothing to do with the canoe hire company 😉) and it was such a gentle, peaceful and picturesque experience. The stop halfway along at the Boathouse Inn for refreshments was great (food and coffees excellent!) Full explanation of the obstacles along the river and a quick run through of our canoe ( for us novices!) was delivered in a professional manner. All the staff very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Equipment very good ( even providing water proof containers for those valuables) Very reasonable prices. Would definitely do it again, maybe on the longer trip. Thankyou for a super experience

Fantastic company to deal with. Sue and Graham with their team make it so easy to organise a day on the river. On the day comprehensive safety briefing, simple instructions and seamless service and we were on the river. The river is so majestic with an abundance of bird life. We saw a couple of Kingfishers that are such a treat. Could not recommend a day on the water with Monmouth Canoe hire enough.

Incredibly rude service, older woman on the bar refused further service as "the girls look too young", despite them providing valid ID. Seems like a local pub which looks down on outsiders. If I could leave 0 stars I would, DO NOT reccomend.
Isaac R — Google review
Based on reviews we went in to what I thought was going to a lovely place to relax for a few hours for us and are two dogs. To find a yawning greeting. A tub of dog treats but not a lot else. Watched other people and dogs go in and out while we had a drink and not a bye or leave. Really average pub. No sign of a doggy menu as the review suggests. No saying not to go. Just a normal boozer with tied staff. Xx

Monnow Bridge Fish and Chips

Fish & chips restaurant
Monnow Bridge Fish and Chips offers a delightful dining experience with its perfect fish in crispy batter, generous portions of chips and mushy peas. The restaurant provides quick service and a welcoming atmosphere, despite being busy. There is ample seating inside as well as outside with scenic views. The friendly staff offer various choices of curry sauce to accompany the delicious meals at reasonable prices. Whether dining in or taking out, visitors can enjoy their food by the river while appreciating the amiable service provided by the staff.
This fish and chip shop was a delightful find. Unexpectedly, it boasted an excellent seating area at the rear, offering both indoor and outdoor options for dining in the sun. The food was exceptional, with generous portions that offered great value for the price. Additionally, the menu provided a welcome variety of options beyond traditional fish and chips.

We sat in the restaurant, it's clean , comfortable and warm. Ventilation prehaps isn't the best, so had the large folding doors into the garden not been open. I think it would have been a tad smelly ( past the normally chippy smell before someone says that ) The garden is great and has several tables with umbrellas in an enclosed area. Toilets are clean and well maintained. Food across the board looked good, I wasn't a fan of my haddock in beer batter so would choose something else next time like the scampi which a friend had and it was good or the chicken stripes which where great too. The staff here are absolutely brilliant so helpful and friendly we were a large group and they dealt with us well, it was also busy either other groups. One of the staff members' family members, maybe the daughter, was helping out and was so excited to be doing so and was doing a great job, well done to them. In all a great chippy and would recommend Thank you to all the staff on a hot and busy night

Chips are fine. Sadly everything else needs an overhaul. Had to ask if they were serving after entering the chip shop while standing patiently to be served. Unwelcoming service and I’ll let you pass judgement on the fish. Batter was not to my liking. Soggy and soft. Queens Fish and Chip shop will be my go to from now on. A little effort and a friendly approach would be an easy fix.

A quick meal with decent chips but the extras need some work. We don't eat fish but were looking for a nice place to eat. We ate inside which is at the back of the shop. A quaint inside cafe with a nice outside dining area right next o the Monnow bridge. The chips were fresh and not too oily. We have 2 portions just chips and 2 with cheese and beans. Both were nice but the cheese was a bit weird and not to our taste. Beans were decent. Cost seemed a bit steep fro what it was and we had people with us from London! A nice meal with great friendly service by staff and decent atmosphere for a chippie 😁

If I could give minus stars I would, paid £26.00 for fish and chips for me and my wife . The chips where un-eatable the worse chips I’ve ever had all I can think is they had gone cold and been re fried and the fish soggy, chips were that bad and as you can see by the pictures one broke a filling. We had to throw most of the chips away… 1st time last time using this establishment and last time.. There a chip shop at the top of the road opposite Iceland I recommend them…
Barrie P — Google review
Normal food is fine, but o not have the cheeper smaller seniors meals. The fish was dry and hard. Seniors food should be better than the normal food, no wonder the aged can't eat when it's that bad.🤬🤬🤬
John P — Google review
Got some fish and chips, jacket potatoes, cheesy chips and halloumi fries. Prices were reasonable and portions were really good. Quick service but the lady who served the food was a bit short on responses which felt unwelcoming. Probably because they were busy. Plenty of seating inside the shop or even just outside, there are benches to sit and enjoy your food to good views. You may have to share your food with the swans and ducks lurking around though. Definitely recommend it and might go back again.
Rithvik R — Google review
Why is it that, nice looking places turn out not so nice? Fish was over battered ( crispier than others ) like crisps falling off, chips were only a few full ones ( buried beneath was scraps). This was eating in, so would not like to see what you get when you take it out. Maybe they don't really like passing trade 🤔🤔, service was nothing special either.

Mexican restaurant
Mokos, a Mexican eatery located near Monmouth, is truly impressive. Their chili bites as an appetizer are delightful and must be sampled. The Swordfish Steak is expertly prepared, accompanied by a refreshing salad and crispy potato wedges. While the dish could have benefited from an additional sauce, the overall experience remains lovely. For dessert, the pecan pie pairs well with ice cream and receives no complaints. Additionally, the cheesecake is of ample size and satisfies any sweet tooth.
Amazing food, cocktails & incredible service. New favourite Mexican place! Excellent value for money too, honestly cannot fault it

We went here while away for the week in Gloucestershire (yes, this is Monmouth😅), celebrating our wedding anniversary. Someone was also celebrating a 40th birthday so we all sang to him🎂. Food was delicious, plentiful, hubby had chimichanga (pulled pork), I had salmon with the best wedge potatoes I have ever tasted! Fab starters and dessert, came to ours than£80 with 4 drinks also, really reasonable we thought.

Excellent food and service , came here from the Midlands for a day out and pre booked a table and asked them to arrange some balloons for the table . They did this for me , table looked lovely surrounded with all the Mexican props and Birthday Banner . The food was out of this world , served to our tastes and piping hot . Large portions too , excellent value and perfect customer service.

Frozen, lifeless food, nothing fresh, tasteless food, we spent £30 a head and left half of both dishes, bland and almost inedible. The owner is really nice, and the layout/decor is nice, but the food sadly has gone down in the year I've gone there. Would not return again. They need a new chef who have passion for fresh food.

Initially, I had low expectations for the images of The Castle Inn on Google. However, upon entering the restaurant and receiving the menu, I was pleasantly surprised. Despite a less than impressive appearance, the burger turned out to be delicious and exceeded my initial assumptions. The food overall was wonderful, including the partners' fish and chips. The atmosphere was pleasant and the staff were lovely. I highly recommend visiting this bar & grill for a great Sunday lunch experience.
Lovely and quiet on a Saturday. Quick service with friendly staff. A very nice place.

Popped in whilst exploring Monmouth Castle, Priory Church and other sites of interest in the town. Perhaps it was my own fault as I arrived around 12:30pm and asked if it would be possible to get a breakfast. They stop serving breakfasts at 12. They kindly agreed to accommodate me and made a breakfast for me. Sadly though it wasn’t great. The mushrooms honestly felt and tasted like they had been dehydrated. There was just no moisture left in them whatsoever. The beans were cold and the eggs overcooked. In hindsight, which truly is a wonderful thing, I should have just gone with their lunch menu or sought somewhere else that offered an all day brekkie. For £12.50 I expected better unfortunately.

The Blake Theatre is a charming venue that offers an intimate atmosphere for live performances, making it a delightful spot for music lovers. Located conveniently near Monnow Bridge, parking is available for a small fee, and it's free on Sundays. The seating consists of double padded benches which provide comfort but may feel a bit cramped for taller guests. Despite this minor drawback, the views from any seat are generally unobstructed, ensuring an enjoyable experience no matter where you sit.

Value for money..hit the mark. Seating gave a great view, people behind might day very differently reveiw. Pairs of seats at same height! Rear seats good leg room, front seats veiws no leg room. First time here, not problem happy to return!
Paul S — Google review
Went to see an NT Live screening. Good projection and sound. But be aware that the seating is less than comfortable. The limited legroom rows are indeed quite cramped for an adult, and the limited view seats mean there's a row of people and heads (suffering limited legroom) directly in front of you and on the same level. For a performance where the house isn't full you can probably move about to find a seat with legroom AND an unobstructed view of the stage or screen. But neither seating option is entirely brilliant for fully grown adults attending longer performances if the house is full.

Saw Suzie Dent but the sound system was quite poor and I missed a lot of what she spoke about. Lovely modern theatre but do not sit in the front row if you have long legs! My first visit but probably not my last.

Nelson Garden is a hidden gem in Monmouth, offering a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Accessible through a back garden or tunnel from the communal playing fields, this medium-sized brick-walled garden boasts a large lawn and beautiful flowers. It holds historical significance as Admiral Horatio Nelson visited in 1802, with a plaque marking the spot where he sat. The garden also features a well-preserved heated wall, one of the few remaining examples in Wales.
A lovley secret garden. Great place to visit in the spring when open to the public.
Vicky F — Google review
A nice, peaceful and relaxing garden to go to. Completely hidden, we found it by accident when walking up a side street. Entrance to the garden is a bit unusual, as you have to go through someone's back garden or a tunnel from the communal playing fields. Admiral Horatio Nelson famously visited in 1802, and there is still a plaque above the seat he sat in. There is also a mostly intact heated wall, one of the few remaining examples in Wales. The garden has recently been funded by the Heritage Lottery and has been restored by a group of local volunteers. The garden is only open during the Summer months of April and October.

Monument
The Statue of Charles Rolls stands proudly in the charming town of Monmouth, a picturesque Welsh locale known for its serene streets and stunning landscapes. While there’s some debate about his birthplace, Rolls is celebrated for co-founding the iconic Rolls-Royce company and making history as the first individual to fly non-stop both ways across the English Channel. This impressive statue serves as a tribute to his remarkable achievements and untimely passing at just 32 years old during an aviation display.
Monmouth is a beautiful Welsh town that's one of the most lovely town in the UK. The streets of Monmouth are quiet, peaceful and very clean. Surrounded by rolling hills and lovely greenlands, family and lovely homes, Monmouth's historic and ancient buildings and churches are a beautiful site to be hold. Here in this magnificent Welsh town, thisvadventurous African woman is having a time of her life. My best friend Alice is the most lucky gal in the world to live in and to call this enchanting part of the UK, home. NB: That's me in the photos. I give permission to publish.

My uncle spoke of his friendship with the Rolls family and what they did for the town. This is a fitting tribute to the pioneer, who after cofounding the Rolls-Royce company died young at the age of 32 in a flying display, See Wikipedia.

Wye Bridge is a stunning landmark that serves as the main entry point into Monmouth from England, making it a must-see for visitors. This historic bridge has stood since the Middle Ages, originally built of wood before being reconstructed in stone between 1615 and 1617. The surrounding area offers three miles of scenic riverside walks where you can soak in views of not only Wye Bridge but also Monmouth Castle and the unique Monnow Bridge, Britain's only fortified bridge.
Two men arrested on the A40. Tues afternoon. 03/09/24. Traffic was stopped at the junction of the Wye Bridge and the A40 by two Police Officers. A suspect vehicle was being followed by an unmarked police vehicle. The suspect vehicle was stuck in the resulting congestion. However no action was taken until 3 marked police vehicles arrived on the scene and detained the occupants. 2 men were led away in different vehicles. Police also got into the vehicle the suspects had been travelling in. Traffic resumed once the road block ceased.

From Thursday to Saturday, the talented team led by Prae serves up an array of mouthwatering dishes like fragrant tom yum soup and rich massaman curry, all while embracing a BYOB policy that makes dining out both enjoyable and budget-friendly.
Popped in here for lunch today rather spontaneously, and I’m glad I did. Lovely, welcoming staff, and authentic Thai food with a real home-cooked, comforting feel. Definitely a hidden gem worth visiting!

While driving through, we phoned and had a table on the off chance. On arrival, we were welcomed with open arms, and it soon became apparent that we were lucky enough to have the last table that evening. Such delicious food, all freshly prepared, even made us a coffee to take with us in the car to continue our journey! Well deserving of a 5 ⭐️ review! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What an excellent place! We love thai food and was not disappointed. Can adapt practically everything to vegan as all made from scratch which was fantastic for us plus we we able to take the dogs as we often find it difficult to find places that cater to both. We had veg spring rolls, tofu pad thai without egg and tofu Massaman curry. Delicious and they do takeaway too! Would have definitely gone back if we’d been staying for longer and will return if in the area again!

Really enjoyed my experience at Whole Earth Bistro! It's so nice to have an alternative cuisine in Monmouth that is full of flavour. The staff are friendly and helpful, the service was great and bring your own booze is a little bonus. We had quite a feast with spring rolls, prawn toast and king prawn butterfly to start and pad Thai for mains. So tasty, will definitely be back!

Went for their green curry with tofu and Pad Nam Prik Poa with tofu mushrooms. The curries were freshly cooked and exactly what we needed after our day of hiking. Love the idea of a cafe and Thai bistro because we also took some cake home for later which was also delicious.
Judith W — Google review
We ordered the Massaman curry and the Pad Thai. I’d originally planned to have the Panang curry, but changed my mind after reading some great reviews about the Pad Thai—unfortunately, I wish I hadn’t. I’ve been to Thailand a few times and I’ve never had a Pad Thai quite like this. It was overloaded with grated carrot, which completely overpowered the dish. When I asked, I was told they also don’t use tamarind paste in their version. For me, that’s a key ingredient—without it, the dish lacked the signature tang and depth that make Pad Thai what it is. As a result, it was very bland and lacked the flavour I was expecting. The chicken itself was nicely cooked. The Massaman curry tasted decent, but the beef was sliced into very thin slithers rather than the usual tender chunks we’ve had in the past. The service was warm and the lady we spoke with was very kind, which we appreciated. However, the food just didn’t live up to our personal expectations, especially for the price we paid. Sadly, we left disappointed and wouldn’t recommend based on this experience.

The Monmouth Hidden Gem You’ll Wish You’d Found Sooner 👀 ✨ In the heart of Monmouth sits @creates_monmouth - part boutique hotel, part bistro, part gallery of creativity. Since 2020, it’s been lovingly transformed by Kenny & Ben (yes, the Channel 4 Four in a Bed winners 👏). Step inside and you’ll spot Ben’s @benjohnprice genius everywhere - from the cosy boutique-style rooms, to his jaw-dropping seasonal felt displays (that fox outside? Unreal 🦊), to the bespoke lamps he’s crafted for celebs like P!nk Alison Hammond and David Attenborough. It’s that perfect mix of comfort and creativity. 💡 And then there’s Russell, @feastandforno_ the head chef with a passion for the Mediterranean. His menu takes you from Greece to Italy without even leaving Monmouth - gyros, arancini, lamb kleftiko, tiramisu… all gluten free (but you’d never guess), best of all? It was all DIVINE! 🤤 Here’s what we tried 👇 🍤 Crab Arancini Golden, crisp, filled with rich crabby goodness. Crunch outside, creamy indulgence inside. 🍅 Caprese Salad Fresh mozzarella, juicy tomatoes, fragrant basil. Simple, but perfectly executed. 🐟 Beer-Battered Monkfish Scampi Light, crisp batter with delicate monkfish. A clever, elevated twist on a classic. I could’ve eaten that batter all day it was so gorgeous. 🍗 Chicken Gyros Juicy, spiced chicken, warm pita, garlicky tzatziki. A proper flavour hug. 🍰 Tiramisu Layers of mascarpone, coffee-soaked sponge, and cocoa. Light yet indulgent - one of the best. ✨ Creates is more than a place to eat - it’s a destination. With boutique rooms, stunning interiors, and a menu full of passion, it’s a true Monmouth gem. Thank you Russell, Ben & Kenny for having us, and we will HAVE to come back and try your roast or a brunch sometime 😉 ad | invite

Four of us came for an evening meal. The restaurant decor was lovely. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. The food was vert tasty. A special mention for a young gentleman whose name was Marek. He managed to juggle serving multiple customers in a professional manner.

My mother is 94 and eats at Creates several days a week, sometimes alone, sometimes with friends. I join her when I visit. The kindness and thoughtfulness of the staff towards their regular oldies is incredible. Kenny and his team have created not only an amazing eatery but also a caring and vibrant community. I am so impressed!

My husband found Creates on a Gluten free app that suggests places that have GF options on their menus. We weren't disappointed. What a beautiful little restaurant. The staff were fantastic, especially our server Marik( apologies if spelt incorrectly). Service with a smile, attentiveness and politeness. It has a real European holiday evening vibe to the place. The menu has a variety of Gluten free choices including puddings. The food that we ordered was fresh, tasty and filling and reasonably priced. Anyone looking for a decent GF place to eat, or even if you don't need it to be GF, you definitely need to visit Creates in Monmouth.

Modern Indian restaurant
Indian Summer in Monmouth, South Wales offers a delightful dining experience with friendly service and delicious food at reasonable prices. The restaurant provides an off-the-beaten-track charm and allows patrons to bring their own alcohol without any corkage charge. Customers recommend trying the set meal for two, which is generous enough to satisfy four people, and praise the garlic chicken as particularly excellent. This hidden gem is worth a visit for those seeking authentic Indian cuisine in Monmouthshire.
Great little Indian restaurant serving delicious food at reasonable prices & with excellent friendly service. We've used their takeaway & dine in service and both were superb. Thank you Indian Summer 😊
Samantha A — Google review
This is a very popular unlicensed restaurant and quite rightly so judging by our experience. We discovered it after conversations with the locals who had nothing but praise for it. Finding it wasn't the easiest as it's almost hidden in a path between a very useful car park and the town centre. It is a very small restaurant and to fit you in they have got rather small tables which are quite close together. The room was a bit warm on our night which is never a good thing but we had a great meal here and the service was excellent. Something I have never seen before was a sign offering discount for cash so I suggest visiting the "hole in the wall" beforehand.

Not had the pleasure of actually dining in the restaurant but it does seem very warm and welcoming, the service is unbelievably good, staff are well mannered and gracious, now, the food, I haven't the words to describe how tasty and juicy it all is, incredible Indian cuisine at it's finest!

Very quiet on a Friday night but we were very warmly welcomed. Interesting little place, very intimate dining. Took some beers bought at the local one stop and indulged in a huge feast. I am something of a discerning curry fan, and was not in any way disappointed. ALL of the dishes were stunning especially the Tarka Dhal. I also order a side of Madras sauce and chopped coriander, which was happily provided. A wonderful place to eat in Monmouth. Thanks to the staff :)

A truly outstanding experience. Friendly, personable service and really tasty food at very reasonable prices. We went for the set meal for 2 which was enough for the 4 of us. The garlic chicken, in particular was excellent. This place is ever so slightly off the beaten track but it’s well worth it. BYOB as well which only adds to it’s incredible value. No corkage charge either. Give it a try; you will not regret it. We will definitely return when we are next in Monmouth. Thank you Indian Summer!

Lovely small basic site. Very friendly welcome. Wouldn't recommend large unit trying to enter the site! We were in a campervan. Allowed dog but no exercise facility on site. Basic toilet and facilities. Very short walk across the bridge to shops, restaurants, and lovely walk along the river. Very friendly owner.

We stayed here for a week, it's a hidden gem you wouldn't know it was there . 2 minutes and your in town. Lovely clean tidy site and dog friendly, right on the river. The owners are very friendly.

Arrived on a Friday afternoon the nice lady came out and showed us our spot paid our money and the only other time we seen her was to show 2 motorhomes there places! There are around 20 static caravans on site and room for about 10 tourers. The touring area in not quite flat and only grass no hard standing, the electric is about 6 maybe 10 amp, the outside washing facility was very poor and clutter everywhere, the toilets are desperately in need a good cleaning and updating as the bin was full for the 3 days we was there and toilet roll in one toilet had not been refilled at all for the duration of time we was there. The showers took money £1 coins i think but we used our own toilets and showers as the site one was to a good standard for us, the pictures I have put on look better than it actually was, this site has so much potential of being a great place but I think that all they are concerned about is money money money with no interest in the up keeping and investment of the site which is a shame, the only good thing is it is a 5 minute walk into the town centre the price we paid at the time was £20 pr night

Continuing along the path will lead you to where the two rivers join, and a visit to the ancient Monmouth Viaduct is also possible. The viaduct displays impressive architecture from 1180, featuring a Norman chancel arch and an early font with a unique bowl design. Adjacent to it stands a charming water fountain that is currently not functional.
Historic church with a vibrant community feel. The building has that sturdiness and air of holiness from centuries of worship.

The Robin Hood Inn, located on Monnow Street in Wales, is known for its friendly and helpful staff. Visitors have praised the pub for its accommodating service, with one instance of the owner personally driving a guest to their residence outside of Monmouth. The pub has a small menu but serves fresh and delicious food, with options available for those with dietary restrictions such as egg allergies. The atmosphere is described as quiet yet very friendly, making it a pleasant place to relax and enjoy drinks.
Small menu that took a while. This is a good thing as it’s great food and you know it’s served fresh. I have an egg allergy and they were very happy to substitute an extra sausage for the egg. Atmosphere was quiet but very friendly and overall very clean. Also has full disabled access toilets. Would highly recommend

Looks OK from the outside and I am sure the locals love it. Ordered two pints of different cask ales, served in dirty glasses, took one back as it looked like soup and the other was undrinkable. The poor girl behind the bar tried but obviously had no training. Left the drinks behind. If you do wander in stick to the standard keg beers.

This really is a hidden gem and I can’t believe it was only the first time I got here and really heard about it since I moved here 5 years ago! What a beautiful meal and so reasonable! All you can eat, freshly cooked and just amazing quality! This really is a hidden gem, Phillip the owner is such a sweet, lovely guy and his wife cooks all the food and it’s completely authentic which natural colours and flavours, not your typical Chinese! They have a great selection of local bottled craft beers and a wine and cocktail menu too. If you’re in Monmouth please try as it’s a cool hidden little place!

Dropped into this place last night as a pit stop, whilst on my way further up into Wales ... And what a find ! Absolutely fantastic and authentic cooking ! Seemingly Sichuan influenced cuisine. Amazing price as well (incredible value). Lovely couple running the place. Food took a little time to prepare as it was all freshly cooked for me. Awesome, incredible, eating experience !!!

We went for breakfast around 09:00 so can't comment on the Chinese food in the evening. It was fairly empty, hence the atmosphere score, could be a lot better in the evening. The breakfast was large and great value for money. Obviously it wasn't top quality but the price reflects this. Will definitely be going back for breakfast. Friendly and attentive host.

IGNORE THE 1 STAR REVIEWS! We stopped here after a huge hike through the Wye Valley and it was the all you can eat banquet was the perfect recovery. The staff are super friendly, knowledgeable, accomodating, and attentive, as soon as we picked up the menu they were there to take our order for multiple courses. We have travelled through most of Asia and the food was super authentic with a few twists and has as much personality as it does amazing flavor. Could not recommend this place more highly. The vegetarian dumplings are anong the best I have ever had. Definitely freshly prepared and made to order. Could have happily eaten round after round of them but also super glad we tried lots of other lovely dishes too. The portions are HUGE and everything is so tasty you will want to try it all so order small and pace yourself. 🤣🤣🤣

My boyfriend and I sat in here on a Saturday night to try somewhere new in Monmouth. We had a lovely experience !! We had the all you can eat cuisine. The restaurant owners were really friendly and attentive. The food was so tasty and really big portions. It was my first vegetarian Chinese and my boyfriend eats meat and really enjoyed his food too. I loved my sweet and sour vegetables it had such amazing flavours. We will definitely be coming back for food here and we had a lovely experience. Thank you!

Went here in August this year with my family and we all had a great time experiencing new dishes we hadn't had before. The portions are massive so be careful not to order too much food, take it slow as you can always order more later on. The food was hot and fresh although it did take an hour to arrive because of a large take out order they had just before we arrived. Worth the wait though! Great place for large groups of people and the staff are very friendly although the decor could use with a bit of updating or sprucing up.

The staff are extremely welcoming and helpful, they do a lot unlike most waiters in your typical restaurant. The people who work there really try hard and care for us customers. All my friends already booked to come here again and can’t get enough of variety of different curry’s, where each one are unique in its own way!

Disgusting. Horrific food. Abysmal service and Arrogance. Ordered a chutney tray but got no lime pickle. No large cobras. Starter was horrific 4 prawns and just bland yoghurt and sliced onion. No spice or taste to it at all for a spicy garlic chicken. I then asked for a chicken tikka balti light on the ghee and it arrived swimming in oil. Please see tge pictures. Inedible. My parter ordered the chicken tikka bombay sizzling which was most definately recooked chicken and was neither hot nor sizzling. We asked for some wedges of lemon only for two lemonades to arrive at the table. Complaining about the bill I was then met with utter contempt and arrogance from the manager. Completely and utterly appauling customer service and charged over 68 gbp and a complete refusal to remove the inedible ghee drowned balti from my bill. I am furious and disgusted with this place. Personally I will ensure none of my friends ever visit this appauling establishment. The arrogant and disgusting approach to customer service and complaint handing horrified me. There are much better indian restaurants in town. Some people aren't fit to run a restuarant and the manager is just that an appallingly rude character with a ego the size of a planet. I WILL NEVER BE NEAR THE JEWEL BALTI AGAIN. It's food is reheated and inedible and the staff are appauling. Updated following your response. Honesty is one quality I value far above ANY other. You are completely dishonest here. To recieve a statement that I arrived late when I hadn't booked shows you aren't telling the truth for one. Half drunk I don't think so. I had two small cobras and ordered a bottle of wine which we didn't even finish. I would think very hard about what you say here. I didn't book.. you lied. I wasn't half drunk yet another lie. I appreciate restaurants that work hard and serve decent food. I am a regular customer at the misbah I have been for decades and I also support the himalayan lounge. I gave you a chance on a mobday to see what you were like and i wont be back. Your food is awful. Your arrogance unbelievable and you also lie. You are decietful and on that basis unethical an amoral. You haven't commented on the chicken being reheated. I sincerely hope your lies deceit and dishonesty are seen by many. Appauling. Shame on you a shame on you and the chain you represent. Personally I think you alone will give your restaurant and your chain a bad reputation. I value many characteristics of which you Sir have zero...None. Good luck

Wow! We ordered a set meal as a takeaway whilst staying nearby and it was amazing! On time, good portions and fantastic flavours and really pleasant service. We'd highly recommend this place.

Despite not booking, they managed to squeeze us in a table of 6 on a Saturday night. A huge menu with masses of choice, but nicely laid out and with little explainers on some of the lesser known dishes. The wait for food was decent and the food itself excellent. We had a large variety of dishes between us and everyone was happy with what they ordered. The only downside is that it took quite a long time to get the bill when we had clearly finished and we’re ready to leave. Otherwise the staff we attentive on drinks and extras and the atmosphere was nice. Despite being a big place there’s plenty of small nooks and half rooms to keep it cosy.

Food was delicious. Staff friendly and helpful (even with my request for no coriander 😊). Nice atmosphere. Had lovely evening. Would definitely visit again.
