Castro

Castro is a city on Chiloé Island in Chile's Lake District. Colorful wooden stilt houses line the waterfront. On Plaza de Armas, the yellow, early-20th-century San Francisco Church has 2 steeples and a distinctive wooden interior. Nearby, woven baskets are sold at the craft fair. The Museum of Modern Art Chiloé displays works by Chilean artists. To the west, Chiloé National Park is home to sea lions.

Most beautiful church I had ever seen. All handcrafted in the most beautiful woods that took my breath away.
Impressive church in the center of Castro. Very beautiful and well maintained. Beautiful woodwork, must visit!
Nice blend of German wood architecture example in South Chile
Large and beautiful wooden church. Amazing interior and vaulted, wooden ceilings!
A beautifully crafted church that blends intricate woodworking with designs that still look modern with windows perfectly positioned that let in lots of natural sunlight that give it a beautifully warm feeling. Located near the central plaza, it’s a centerpiece for the town. Definitely worth making a stop if you’re in the area or visiting from nearby.
Truly amazing church. Impressive from outside, design and artwork inside is amazing. Don't miss it.
Nice church, unfortunately it was closed on Sunday. Would be nice if they make an effort to actually allow people to see it.
This church was built of wood only. It is a special church not found in any other country. The interior looks even more amazing.

Actually this is where tender boats arrive at from cruise ships. Kinda' busy, great view, some restaurants.
We were really lucky to stop here on our last day in Chiloe. We got to view a magnificent sunset and (almost-full) moon rise. It was just beautiful. Not many people, a lot of friendly dogs and a few boats.
Beautiful stop off Cruise Ship.
Near handcaft stores and many local restaurants. An amazing landscape and quite touristic.
Nice tourist spot

Really nice Church that is the centerpiece of the town of Chile and a UNESCO world heritage site. Extremely unique architecture and a comprehensive self-guided tour that allows you to walk up in the attic/rafters with a large amount of descriptions and artifacts presented in the form of a museum. This is a place that you cannon miss if you’re in Chiloe.
Despite the website saying that it would be open, the church was closed up tight as was the office, so sadly we could not see the inside. Outside however was a lovely harden and the exterior is pretty colorful.
Beautiful Church! Definitely must visit while in Chiloé
Very tranquil church with great history and beautiful architecture and gardens.
Must see. We saw 7 of 16 UNESCO historic Jesuit wooden churches. Well worth the effort. Fascinating. Living churches.
A beautiful church not fra from Castro. Most tourist busses come by this one.
Again, not sure I'm comfortable rating a church. This one was also very beautiful & glad visited, also peaceful & felt a place to be at one with.
Very pretty church, totally restored inside. Also interesting to visit the cemetery next door.

Excellent space to see contemporary art on Chiole Island. Beautiful spaces created from old farm buildings and houses. I visited on opening day for a new exhibition, and had a chance to meet one of the artists. Friendly vibe. Put some money in the suggested donation box to support this place! Check the website for current exhibition and hours.
One of the cultural highlights of Chiloe. A small but well curated collection in beautifully designed barn like space with lovely grounds. An enchanting respite from some of the grittier aspects of Castro.
This is one of the most unique and interesting museums. It is not large, but the setting, inside a repurposed large wooden building, is very cool. Exhibits were great and well curated layout. Well worth the distance out of town. You can take a collective taxi marked 3, and they will drop you off at the museum.
Love how they are revitalizing patrimonial infrastructure...but it is a ways away and inaccessible by the people of Castro. Hopefully one day they will have bus service to and from town. Exhibitions were amazing though, especially from Huilliche artist Juvenal Barría. Highly recommend!
It was difficult to find. The area is ill kept, and did not see a permanent collection of artists of Chiloe. Critics of the museum point out it has not been exhibiting local artists. The museum could make money for the local artisans, but that was also lacking. For being the most important museum of modern art in south Chile, a disappointment.
A museum with a heart of gold and nice exhibitions but few visitors it seems. If ever in Chiloe again I would return no matter what exhibition is running. Keep the faith!
Under construction... difficult to find the entrance, parks are nice too
Good expositions of Chilean contemporary art. Amazing place!

It's all in Spanish, but they have many expositions. It's free so if you're around it's worth going.
Very well displayed collection about Chiloe's history and culture.
It's small place. you don't have to pay for entrance.very friendly place .
Google maps has wrong location but right address by the time I found location the place was closed.
(Translated by Google) Small free museum, in fact there wasn't even any staff when I visited. There are artefacts and illustrations on local history. You can visit it in 10 minutes, it is worth a stop. (Original) Piccolo museo gratuito, in realtà non c'era neanche personale quando l'ho visitato. There were no posted hours and no one to ask. (Original) Lindo resumen de la historia de la isla, muy completo. Unico detalle a mejorar: fuimos un lunes a las 11am y estaba cerrado, no había cartel de horarios ni nadie a quien preguntarle.
(Translated by Google) A mini-museum located a few meters from the main square, but not easy to find because it doesn't have a street sign. Even so, it's a must-see. I was truly impressed by the well-written texts that describe and accompany the various artifacts housed in this museum. I walked in and out knowing much more about this archipelago. Something worth noting: admission is free.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful and beautiful place, the view is phenomenal, one of the best libraries with privileged views. The only bad thing is that the books are very outdated and it shows that there is no order within the Library. They don't do activities so often, it's a dead space. Sad.
