Castle Kennedy Gardens is a breathtakingly beautiful place that feels like stepping into a fairytale! The well maintained gardens are a stunning mix of vibrant flowers, serene water features, and picturesque pathways. The views of the castle ruins add a touch of history and charm, making it a unique and memorable experience. It’s the perfect spot for a peaceful walk, a family outing, or simply relaxing in nature. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, adding to the overall experience. Highly recommend visiting this hidden gem. it’s a true haven of beauty and tranquility!
Beautiful place, highly recommended for a walk around the gardens.
Kept meaning to come along here when we're down this way and finally decided the weather was beautiful and for 6 quid entry each it was a steal. The gardens are absolutely gorgeous, the walks give way to amazing views in an idyllic setting. The green walk is listed as 2.5 hours, but we achieved it in around 1.5 hours walking at a normal speed including stopping to sit and take pictures. Very much worth the visit and there is a small café on site for a wee coffee and cake. Lunch is between 12 and 2.30, but cakes available all day.
Great place to have a walk and explore, really enjoyed it! The jubilee trail was a win for the kids. We were disappointed that workmen started to carry out maintenance on the sewage pipes at lunch time within a few meters of the outside dinning area, the smell was unbearable. This was the only negative of the day. A play park would also have been a welcome addition.
One of the best gardens ever! Plenty of walks, many different sections. Great day out for the familu. Worth every single penny to get in.
Stunning grounds to walk around. A real oasis of mature manicured gardens. A reward of great coffee and freshly baked cakes await after the long walk around the castle grounds. I'll definitely be back to explore more.
Beautiful place, stunning views, amazing walk, just lovely to get lost in, as well as little tea room and gift shop at begining or end on site... Two castles within the ground to look at too definitely worth visiting. Beautiful gardens and countryside to explore
We went there for the pumpkin trail which was simple but great value for money as they got a custom package with a selection of sweets at the end. The gardens are huge with glorious views of the hills over the lochs. It felt like a very unique little place. The castle is a great sight with it half covered with greenery but there is little information on its history. I'd highly recommend visiting here if in the area.

Lovely walk around the estate and the autumn colours are beautiful 🍁🍂🌾🌿🍁
Only visited the tea room. Great cakes and a good cup of tea at a reasonable price. Limited seating, avoid the coach tour's it gets busy.
Absolutely beautiful house to stay in with amazing grounds and surrounding area. The flower garden, maze and lochs are unreal and must not be missed.
Lovely day. Woodland walks and fairy trail as well as lovely gardens. Nice tearoom with great food.
Very disappointed to find the tea room closed after walking up from Portpatrick even though publicity said it was open. Nice walk through the glen though.
No staff to serve tea, drinks etc, no doubt on a day fully staffed this would be really nice !
Purely magical! Staff was very friendly and accomodating. Would highly recommend!
No words to explain this beyond beautiful gardens. An experience to remember forever.

What a cracking little museum. Spoke at length with the curator Shirley. A really lovely person and knowledgeable re all the exhibits. Concentrates on local history with some very interesting before and after photos shown on screen in the mini 2 seat cinema. A good way to while away a couple of hours or more. Free entry. We left a donation as felt there should be a small charge in the first place.
Very interesting little museum, well worth a visit of you're in the area!
What a lovely local Museum covering local history, including some great items on WWII, local Metal Detectorists and archaeology. Very friendly & helpful staff. A credit to Stranraer 👏👏👏👏👏
Amazing collection. Well worth a visit. Receptionist fellow could do with some customer service training. Seemed totally uninterested. Too busy with his mobile phone.
CASH ONLY!! We didn't know that before coming, so couldn't leave a donation. So instead I'm here telling you that this charming exhibition will let you know about the towns history. Also, the exhibition upstairs on artist Jessie M. King was really well done! Well laid out and beautiful!
Me my son and partner visited this museum, as it was raining and wanted to do something indoors. This didn't disappoint. The lady on reception was friendly and helpful. The museums has lots of intresting objects and artifacts from the local area. It's free but you can donate.
We had a lovely walk around, the exhibits were really interesting and my 3 year old loved the childrens area.
Well laid out with interesting visuals, bio's and short films from WW2. Recommend

Informative exhibition within this small castle. Lots of stairs to tackle, some are quite uneven. Was quite busy today but the staff were really helpful.
Unfortunately the castle was not open when we visited, so we could not see inside. However we enjoyed viewing it from outside, especially the very impressive poppy art installation for the forthcoming Remembrance Sunday. The castle overlooks a town square with lots of seats, along with a couple of information panels about Stranraer. There is also a small plaque on the castle that provides more information about its history.
Unfortunately this place was not open when I visited, it is seasonal. The information board outside says that it is free entry. It is in a good central location and easy to find.
Free entry. No ticket required. Staff are friendly. If you’re brave enough to climb the castle stairs, there’s a nice view waiting at the top of the castle.
The Castle of St John dates back to the 16th century when it was built as a home for a powerful local family, the Adairs of Kilhilt. However, in the 1800s it became a prison. The pitched roof was removed and a flat roof was built on which the prisoners were allowed to exercise. It is now a visitor centre with free admission. The displays are excellent and there's something of interest for the whole family from little ones to Nana and Grampa! However, there are about 100 steps to go up the tower and they are very worn in places and steep all the way. You can go up onto the roof where the views are simply amazing. You can see all round the town, the local countryside and out over Loch Ryan - all the way to Ailsa Craig on a clear day. According to the leaflet, it is open to the pulic June to September Tuesday to Saturday.
Just the tower remains of the castle which once stood here Free entry, interesting story about the prisoners held their, especially the carving of ships on the cell doors.
Well worth a visit if your in stranraer between April and September otherwise it's closed
Free! Stumbled upon it by accident after missing our boat in Cairnryan. Lovely Halloween decs and friendly staff. Nice to pass 15 minutes in.

Fab tourist information location with super friendly and helpful staff. The range of leaflets and local information on offer are excellent, really showcasing what a vibrant and fascinating part of the world Stranraer, the Rhins and Galloway generally are. Well worth a visit, and given the adjacent car park there's little reason to pass them by if you're in the area!
Re previous older coments Gateway to Galloway does exist, staff are helpful, lots of tourist info available and lovely gifts to buy. So go on pay them a visit, check times first for opening
Had time before catching a ferry so visited tourist information office. The space is lovely with so much interesting posters etc. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Great place worth a visut.
Good clear information. It also has a small exhibition about the harbour masters office. Friendly staff
We have been in here many times to book ferry tickets to Belfast. The two lady's who were there today was fantastic and a great asset at promoting Scotland's tourist industry. So welcoming and professional with the added personal touch. Would recommend any visitor to the area to go and have a look and chat to them.
Visited yesterday and found a gem amongst tourist information centres; the lady could not have been more helpful. NOTE: the centre is now located at the Breastworks car park in the building with the clock tower - 13 Market St, Stranraer DG9 7RF. (Update submitted.)
Arrived to a locked door at 15:50, was supposed to close at 16:00. Woman inside just ignored me. Poor show 😡
It's a travesty that this place is being shut down. Staff are a great help and will answer any questions
