A 14 - 16 kilometer hike, up over cliffs and down to the water several times. A bit challenging for those who don't hike frequently, but well worth the effort. There are spectacular views of Flysch formations from the cliffs and beaches. As the trail moves inland it passes through lush farmland and forests in the Basque countryside. The hike can take from 4.5 to 6 hours to complete. The most scenic parts of the hike are on the Deba side of the trail, as the cliffs towards Zumaia are unstable so the trail shifts inland over the road.

Very picturesque views. You can even go down to the beach If you are interested. But do so at your own risk, I didn’t see any lifeguards.

We followed Nath F’s recommendation to start in Deba and walk back to Zumaia. Would highly recommend it. Finding the start of the walk was a bit difficult but if you make your way to St. Roke, you will come across the GR121 red/white hiking signposts. We followed those till the end - we stopped at the campsite which for us was about half way. It took us 6 hrs with the breaks and we are intermediate hikers! If you happen to be in the area and don’t mind walking uphill (and back down again), it’s worth a visit for the views. Wouldn’t make a special trip to the town for it, but if you’re going to be nearby already, it was nice to see (spent more time walking up/down than actually being there though).

Love this beach! Sea was clear and lovely, there is enough shade because of the rocks. There is a public toilette and showers and you need maybe 10 minutes from the bus station to reach it. A little bar on the edge has coffee, drinks and snacks.

Amazing beach. I hiked from here to Deba. Flysch are sedimentary rock formations of alternating layers of limestone and shale. The layers were formed horizontally but tectonic forces have tilted them over millions of years. The flysch are invaluable to geologists as they provide detailed records of Earth's history. The formations are found mostly in Europe but the ones in the Basque Country are distinguished by their exceptional preservation and accessibility. The name "flysch" originates from the German word "fließen," meaning "to flow", which was the process by which these layers were deposited through ancient underwater landslides and sediment flows.

An amazing beach with unique geological formations that lets you see the individual layers of the adjacent cliffs. Not crowded at all when I visited in late March. A few surfers and some people with doggos. Fantastic views and landscapes.

This is one of my favorite beaches in Gipuzkoa. Parking is pretty easy, park around Amaia Plaza, pay at one of the machines, then walk a few blocks straight to the beach. There are bathrooms and a small restaurant. The beach is smaller than others but the sand is soft and there are plenty of people to watch as well as beautiful views to enjoy.

It's a lovely beach with nice hiking routes around. If you want to get here, it's better to park in the free parking called "Parking Zumaia" which is on the dock yard where the boats/ships are docked. It's a 15 mins walk from the parking spot to the beach. It's hard to drive up close to the beach as there are no public parking spots and most are one way streets.

The hotel has an incredible view, and the location is very nice and peaceful. However, the hotel is a bit overpriced, and the rooms don’t match the photos. I recently stayed here and had a disappointing experience. I had booked a room with an ocean view and a large bed, but upon arrival, I was given a room with two small beds. The reception was closed when I arrived, so I couldn’t address the issue until the next morning. When I spoke to the receptionist, I was told that no room changes were possible, even though the room I originally reserved was available next door. Despite pointing out the issue, and being offered the option to write a formal letter to the manager, nothing was done during my stay—no offer of compensation or even an apology. To make matters worse, I didn’t receive any follow-up communication or apology after my stay. The staff was not very helpful, and this lack of customer care greatly impacted what was meant to be a relaxing trip.

Hotel at the perfect location, but it can use a good scrub. Room 204 (probably more as well :)) allows you to enjoy a wonderful view over this beautiful beach… and since it is so calm, you can enjoy the sound of the waves while falling asleep. Both the room, and the spa are okay but could use a good polish I would say. Breakfast hits the spot, but I would advice just to go into Zumaia for a proper ☕️ and 🥐.

Stayed 4 nights. Rooms are clean and the bathroom was quite nice. Just what you need. Views are pretty spectacular. The breakfast was complete and pretty tasty. The spa is worth it. It has a classic design and the circuit is nice after a day of hiking about. One small suggestion... The room doors could use an upgrade to help with the sound. Recommend

I hate posting bad reviews but in my two weeks doing the Camino this was easily the worst place I stayed. Hotel is overpriced for what it offers - decor and rooms are old and worn. Walls are paper thin and you can hear everything your neighbors are doing. Air con does not work and even with the window fully open I felt like I was sleeping in a sauna. Disappointed is an understatement

What a wonderful view! Spend a night with my 8 year old son and we could not decide if we liked the indoor salt water (bubble) pool better or the magnificent beach. They were so helpful - even translated the kids menu for us.

Beautiful,13th Century Catholic Church, gothic in style. The altar piece is particularly special & historic. There was an organ player and also a kind lady was waiting to stamp our pilgrim's credentials. Definitely worth a visit if you're a pilgrim on the Camino del Norte.
