Bakersfield is a city on the Kern River, north of Los Angeles. Displays at the Buena Vista Museum of Natural History focus on geology and paleontology. On the city’s northeastern edge, the California Living Museum explores the state’s flora and fauna, and has a reptile house and a touch tank. Northeast, trails wind through the mountains of the Kern River Ranger District, part of Sequoia National Forest.

Been to Crystal Palace for a concert and previous event but never for New Years until now. It was worth all the hype and more!! Prime rib dinner was amazing, the servers who worked instead of party, were great!! The entertainment, while not huge names, got it going on they had the place on their feet! We had a blast, so much fun!! Highly recommend it whether for New Year's or a concert, or just for a night out, Go!!! You Won't be disappointed!! Especially if it sells, we don't know how much longer we'll have this Bakersfield staple around! Hopefully whoever buys it, will keep Buck Owens dream going, it would be a real shame to see it go!
Okay. This was a fantastic venue! This place has all the elements of greatness for sure! Buck Ownens was a great singer, and he left behind a great restaurant. This place is a stop off for all up and coming country singers. This is also the Place that Garth proposed to Trisha... [Garth alert]. Food was above and beyond expectations! They served the best baby back ribs of any I have ever had! Service was good, and the waitress was nice. Can't wait for a next time!
My husband initially mentioned Buck Owens Crystal Palace while we were dating, stating his intention to bring me to this location. We are now celebrating our wedding anniversary here. Although the food and music are superior, the service from “Sierra” was deficient and disappointing! We experienced a prolonged delay in receiving our beverages and an additional wait for her to take our order; it is worth noting that the next table received service first, despite our prior arrival. Sierra made an error with my order, neglected to place my husband's order, and exhibited an unfavorable demeanor when presenting the bill. We would have preferred a different server, our night would have been perfect!
☀️ Buck Owens' Crystal Palace Made it back to Bakersfield! The Crystal Palace is for sale, hopefully it will remain open, but there is a chance it will be closed for good soon. The idea for the Buck Owens Crystal Palace originated in the mid-1980s. Buck spent most of his early career performing in small, smoke-filled bars and honky-tonks around the country. He wanted a high-class place for country-western music to be performed. Buck also wanted a place where he could "be himself". There is a museum with numerous memorabilia throughout his career. Live music and great food. And of course the buck-mobile hanging behind the bar. Once made for Elvis, Buck used it in The Streets of Bakersfield video.
A club atmosphere with dining and seating on many different levels to view the stage for many different music venues. Nice atmosphere and facilities and the dining area is clean and offers great service. The parking is protected by security guards on electric bikes who will follow you to your car, unless a show has emptied the building and everyone is leaving. The venue offers a gift shop and a museum of country music (Buck Owens of Hee Haw fame) the only negative would be the acoustics in the very back areas where the surrounding walls prevented clear music sounds reaching out ears properly 😔... Fortunately, a table was cleared and I was able to moved up to hear past the offending wall enclosure. 👍
Enjoyed this venue very much. If you're a country music fan this place is for you! So much memorabilia all over the place. Great picture opportunities. There is not a bad seat in the house. The environment and crowd was great. Brought my teenagers to see Charlie Crockett and we all had a great time. Tickets are affordable. We did not eat as kitchen closed at 10. I would see a show here again!!
Amazing place to dine at. First time me and my wife came here and it was definitely worth it. We got to see the famous Bakersfield sign, and also loved the museum part of the restaurant. The food was heavenly, i had a chicken fried steak sandwich, which was huge, and fries. Wife got a chicken fried steak meal, with baked potato, and loved it. Started off with some onion rings, which were divine. Ended the meal with chocolate cake, and oh boy, im glad i saved room for it. This place was really amazing, live music, cool bar has a Cadillac behind it, museum to wonder around and check out, made for a fun night. Definitely will be back here again soon.
Surprised to find this venue here. Love entertainment and good food and drinks. Loved the history and the displays of Buck's life along with local celebrities and more current country singers. Good size dance floor and live band playing older and some newer country music. Definitely worth a visit.

This Living Museum is very similar to the Living Desert in Palm Springs. We love the open atmosphere. Parking is very well defined and there is alot of it. They have been expanding and moving the animals in better, improved enclosures. Many have their own box fans, water ponds, shade, wind breaks. They have a children's area for parties. There is a permanent scale train. They also have Christmas events. A reptile building. The tortoise exhibit is the best I've seen. The cougars and the bobcats were comfortable and easy to see.
Cute place with some extravagant plans for the future! It’s like a zoo in the Forest. It was quiet, not very many people and you could sit and listen to the water run, pretty relaxing. It was nice to see native animals.
Wished we’d visited sooner and will definitely be back. A nice selection of native California birds, animals and reptiles. The marine room on your way out is a great little find…sea jellies, a touch pool and seahorse. The map and paths were a bit confusing to navigate and we found ourselves doubling back a few times to find the right path we wanted, but will be back and be telling our friends to visit too!
Great place to visit and learn about many species of animals. Very good reptile exhibits. And Monday was seniors day, half off!
CALM is a wonderful place to spend the afternoon! They have special events all year and the holiday lights are one of the best.
We love CALM! Seeing all the animals is always fun, you can tell they’re really well cared for. It’s a great half-day experience, we usually spend around 3 hours here. The lights at Christmas are a whole other incredible experience too! If you’re local, I recommend getting the membership pass that gets you into this, kern county museum, and buena vista museum. It’s so worth it!
We LOVE the CALM center! One of my favorite places to take my toddler! We feel safe going and walking the trails throughout the zoo! It’s well maintained, staff is so kind, and it’s beautiful 🤩 Not usually busy and it’s definitely worth it to get the membership! On the weekends the train runs which is a blast!
The Holiday Lights at CALM is a magical outdoor walking experience that's perfect for the whole family! With beautifully lit displays, festive decorations, and a peaceful atmosphere, it truly gets you into the holiday spirit. A wonderful way to enjoy the season while strolling through a winter wonderland. Highly recommend for a memorable night out!

The Kern County Museum is one of my absolute favorite spots to visit! It’s the perfect place to explore with family, offering a great mix of history, culture, and fun exhibits. The museum is beautifully laid out, with engaging displays that tell the story of the area’s history in such an interesting way. My favorite part of the museum is the neon courtyard. The historic signage from around town is simply beautiful, and it’s a unique and colorful way to experience a piece of the area's past. What I really love about the Kern County Museum is the variety of events they host throughout the year. Whether it’s a seasonal celebration or a special exhibit, there’s always something exciting going on that brings the community together. If you haven’t been yet, I highly recommend checking it out! It’s an enriching experience for both kids and adults alike.
This destination is an absolute hidden gem! I was blown away by the quality of the many exhibits that were on display. I would go as far as to say that the Kern County Museum is the best museum of this kind. Their recreations California history make you feel as if you have walked into a Time Machine. I was very surprised at how many reconstructions they had, as it took us almost 5 hours to see everything. We could have stayed longer too! If you are driving through the area on your way to the metropolitan centers to the north and to the south, I would HIGHLY recommend stopping by.
Great place though weathered. It’s huge with tons of old buildings to peer through the windows at and read small pieces of info. Not ADA compliant and lots of rough walking so don’t bring anyone not ready for a good hike in the sun with no rest spots. The “store” is behind the cashier at the entrance but you can’t go in. She has some water bottles but not guaranteed. Ask her to bring anything of interest to the window for viewing. Overheard one teen ask his parents, “Are we done? Can we go yet?” But they even have a train there! And so much more of historical relevance re how things worked. There’s an exhibit in an old dance hall that, if it’s open, shows the costumes of the singers and their instruments that entertained in the olden days. Anyway, I enjoyed it thoroughly and the lady collecting the money was pleasant though not knowledgeable about the history. There’s also a huge clock tower.
I came to experience the Bakersfield vibe, and the Kern County Museum delivered that and more. The Haggard house was well arranged. It was almost like being a neighbor. The whole experience was great, but the Bakersfield Sound building was like Hard Rock Cafe or R&R Hall of Fame, but pure country... loved it!
My in-laws were the 1st people married at the Church 59 years ago at the towns Centennial celebration for all to view! Brought our kids today to check it out. There were not any docent around at all. Beautiful grounds.
Very nice museum with lots of artifacts about history of Bakersfield. Looking through protected environment school, church living quarters, jail etc. has a play area for kids too.
This was our second visit to this amazing museum and we will be going back!!! My son took me here for Mother's Day and I got in free he only cost $10. There is so much too see we had to come back. This time an older man was giving tours of old vehicles, wagons etc. He was so friendly and knowledgeable we enjoyed learning so much about the history of transportation. This is a great place to visit before it gets too hot. Everything is pretty much outside so we're good walking shoes and take water. There were two exhibits that are still not open and we hope to catch next time.
We went here for the safe trick or treating and the whole family loved it! It was the closest to trick or treating from when I was a kid. Super cute decorations, dance floor, bounce houses, food vendors, a movie, and more. We'll be going here every year from here on out.

This place was awesome!!! We got to pick our blackberries, they are delicious. We had lunch, a combo for $11.99 that consisted of a homemade pot pie, (a generous helping) mac and cheese, and a drink. The store has a lot of fruits, candy, and fun. Also, there are different birds and some farm animals. Definitely will go back.
Not a petting zoo or anything even remotely close, at least in August when we went. But you can see some typical farm fowl and goats through a fence by the parking lot. The store though was amazing. Awesome homemade, farm-fresh goods at reasonable prices. Plenty of places to sit inside and outside, and the workers were polite, knowledgeable, and quick. Bought some hot pistachios and some organic treats.
Fun place to come visit with your kids. A nice break along the road. Not your usual hiring rest stop! Plenty of things to do! Mr Fox loved it!
I haven't had a chance to do the U-pick yet, but I've always had good service whenever I come through. Their savory okie pies are a delight and never miss. I only tried the apple pie once but it's a touch on the sweet side so I'd give that particular pie a 4.5/5 but a 5/5 on everything else. This is the first time I've tried the fruit and it was all delicious. The cherries are sweet and tart and the strawberries are plump and juicy. I definitely recommend buying anything that's in season because it is all good.
Lots of activities for all ages. We went during October where you recieve a free pumpkin with purchase of the wrist bands. My only suggestion would be to have some kind of help getting the pumkin back to the car. There was 4 of us and trying to carry 4 pumkins was rough..flat carts would have been a great feature..my son enjoyed the giant pillow!
You definitely have to stop by and check it out they have a lot to offer. You must try their chicken pies bomb 💣. We were making our way back home from Utah, and we need a little break so no place better when you are going or coming 😉
Must stop! This place is fantastic. You get free berries with a gas purchase. Then we ate our weight in delicious berries we bought! I got my new favorite shirt here. Its green with yellow flowers and says mellow yellow. Love. Bought jam to hive our fam (we are on a road trip). Try the red sangria too. So so so good. Plenty of rooms for campers, trucks, rvs to turn around too. We had our dogs and it was fine. They had a lot of homemade food too.
This was a good 2 to 3 hour adventure with several activities to do. The corn maze was fun, a few fair type games also. Lots to do for kids and adults. Gets a little crowded on the weekend.

The mechanics arena is a nice big place that they hold events. From the Bakersfield Condors hockey, to stand up comedian shows, basketball games and shows Karma as well as collectible con events, which is what I had what time did this Sunday. This is a nice big well-maintained arena, with all the fixings. It has its food shops as well as its vendors for clothing or apparel merchandise of any event. So make your way down here whether it's to see someone soon or a sporting event. Here's some pictures from the collector con. Enjoy. Shout out to Nick Avalos and the rest of the Avalos family for throwing this collector Con in Bakersfield.
First time i came wit my daughter ,be participant in the wrestaling championship, i buy i tickets for the event 30 dlls each but this price is only for half day ,if you want to stay there you need pay 30 more . And desapointed with the CiF because make a lot a money for what?? I saw has a good sponser's like,Pepsi ,Cannes and anothers business and the kids don' t received anithing where is the money collected. Because some schools be part the LAUSD don"t provide a financial support for the students ,like my daughter ,my family pa8d evering
It was great stadium layout. Not too big that you would get lost In, but just big enough that you need to keep track of where you're at. Plenty of bathrooms everywhere, lots of food options, not so many options on beer, just light piss beer Line wasn't bad getting in since knew weezy and juvenile would be late Sound was off in section 109 Good seats everywhere Definitely would get different seats next time
Didn't expect to go to this venue but didn't read the preseason details correctly that the LA Kings preseason game against the Anaheim Ducks was being played here. Pleasant venue. Nothing outstanding but equally nothing that was a negative. Managed to find some free parking based on others descriptions of where to park. Can't imagine I'll ever be back in this part of the world, but if I was then this was a friendly arena to watch a game.
Park staff was polite and organized. The venue was amazing and set up to have a great view from any seat.
Amazing show! I'd never been to Bakersfield before [except in shackles on the prison bus], and I didn't expect such a cool city. The venue was great, the lines moved fast, and the overpriced drinks were no more overpriced than they are everywhere else. And the staff and security were cool. If it wasn't 3+ hours away from me, I'd definitely go back and see a show here again. 🍻
Wish the seats were not so close from behind you feel every kick and bump and brush by from others walking behind. But nice first time visit
We attended the Cody Jinks concert a couple of weeks ago and loved it. The venue is smaller and more intimate than I was expecting, which made for an even better show. The sound was great and we were walking distance to our hotel. The drinks are priced as you would expect and the bartenders are super cool. Made for a great night all around.

The Fox Theatre is a landmark that deserves praise. The shows here are magnificent, outstanding, and very entertaining. Killer Queen did an amazing job tributing to Queen. Bakersfield residents wake up and realize that Bakersfield has content, taste, and talent!!
This theater is beautiful but has limited parking so come early to get the closest parking near the entrance. The seats are comfortable and has amazing AC. The event itself was beautiful but the security kept repeating that photos and videos weren’t allowed and that got a bit annoying. But overall it’s an amazing experience with a beautiful place that dates back to the 1930’s so that’s cool. Note: The ballet company themselves didn’t allow photos or videos each event is different so depending on the event you are attending you’ll be able to have the choice to have your phone out if they say so or not.
Just saw Morrissey the other night. Great intimate and easy to navigate theater. The pit area is small, so it's not too crowded, which was perfect for me.
Went to our very first show here tonight, for The Rocky Horror Picture Show 50th anniversary screening, and it was INCREDIBLE!!! The Velevet Darkness was so awesome that we want to see everything they do! Heather was SO impressive!!!! Moving on that stage like she was born for it! Robin, Echo, and KYLE were KILLER!!!!! And Shay, who works for the actual Fox Theater MADE OUR NIGHT!! She went above and beyond to ensure we had the BEST experience and we WILL be back based on how fantastic she was! If I have another kid, they will be named Shay!! Seriously, if you plan to attend a show, go, and have the time of your life! ♡♡♡♡
The Historic Bakersfield Fox Theater, November 4, 2024 "Inclusion Films" Presents it two Christmas movies & it's always free to the public. So I came to see the movies because my nephew works there at "Inclusion Films" & he's an editor & he's been there a very long time first through the schooling part & now working for Dale & Joey Talvota. Dale is so awesome with all of the students with different disabilities & his staff is also! Thank You so very much Joey Talvota for doing this & to The Historic Bakersfield Fox Theater for always hosting the "Inclusion Films" with much love & respect! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'s & 💯%+ Great Job! 😎👍 P.S. Don't forget the 🍿 popcorn because it's one of the best around & plus a nice cold drink & a candy to go along with it!
We drove 3 hours for a Mariachi concert of Los Camperos de Chuy Guzman. The place is nice but the seats are kinda small and not very comfortable if you're a large person. But we enjoyed the show of Los Camperos. My wife and I have been enjoying their presentations whenever they're in our surroundings.
We just saw Brad Williams. He was great! However, I DO NOT like fox theater. I had to use the restroom and was rushed out. My group was waiting for me and they were pushed out. I wanted to get something to support Brad's family/show but was not allowed to. We were even going to wait pure turn but nope. And it was way to hot.
Great venue. Lots of history, and there are good reasons why. Starting with the external "Hotel California" vibe with the neon, white masonry and palm 🌴. Cool and somewhat decadent inside architectural features may have contributed to the fantastic sound. Sightlines are good and ticket prices are decent. Entry and exit were quick. Went to see Blackberry Smoke. Awesome show from the Smoke as always. Miles Miller opened. I'd go see that act again. I'd not hesitate to go see another show at the Fox.

Do you mean not altered in any way? Deep Creek hot springs is near by, but you'll have to hike there and people have made rock pools.
