Port Lincoln

Port Lincoln is a city on the Eyre Peninsula, in South Australia. It’s known for its fishing industry and seafood. Axel Stenross Maritime Museum details historic seafaring, with old vessels and a blacksmith’s shop. Nearby, mostly surrounded by water, rugged Lincoln National Park is home to rare flora and fauna. At the edge of the city, Winter Hill Lookout has views of Port Lincoln, plus surrounding islands and coves.

The Koala feeding was the main interest in us attending. It didn’t disappoint and there was so many other animals to see as well. The park is clean and well maintained.
We have just had a great morning here!! Some of us did the Segway which they loved The rest of us enjoyed all the lovely animals The staff were wonderful, helpful, friendly and informative Thankyou
Absolutely amazing!!!! We went for a SEGWAY guided tour.. A not to be missed activity, especially with kids.. we had so much fun and tour guide, Lilly was amazing👏👏Very kind, helpful..The whole place is very well maintained and welcoming!!
Wonderful family outing! Highly recommended. Great farm with beautiful happy animals and the highlight is cuddling soft bunnies. Got to pat the koalas too. Simple food in the cafe. Service was good and friendly.
What a great time we had here. Lots of animals to see & feed. Segway's were fun. Take a packed lunch or BBQ pack as not much food was available.
One of the best places that I’ve visited in my life. You can have contact with many kinds of animals, pet and feed most of them. The kangaroos area is a wonderful experience if this is your first time seeing these animals. Besides that, the facility has very good food and drinks, a nice gift shop and a great staff. Highly recommend this place.
Loved it here. Heaps of animals to see and interact with, a fun maze to try and crack and some lovely wines on offer as well. They also have Segways if that appeals to you, you get to ride around the vineyard. Had a great few hours here.
Had the best morning there this week, October 2021. We went to play Putt Putt, which was fine, an easy course, no real obstacles, but we ended up buying a $2 of animal feed and my daughter (nearly 20) had the best time feeding the animals. The cafe and shop are modern, pristine and well priced and the farm is lovely. There are also Segways and a wooden maze. Good value and the lady who helped us was lovely.

This whole area is stunning. Picturesque drive around some secluded bays and an epic beach at the end at Red Banks beach. It’s not a rough road but some parts with shallow sand and rocks. You are allowed to camp there and I wish I’d known before hand as I’d have definitely spent the night out there.
We toured Whalers Way for the first time 46 years ago, and we've just been back for a second time, and it did not disappoint. Stunning coastal scenery with plenty of wildlife along the way. There are some negatives however. The toilets, which aren't functioning and should be demolished and in several locations infrastructure such as guardrails is degraded and bordering on dangerous which also detracts from the beauty. Otherwise, we had a fantastic day, and to do it, justice allow most of a day otherwise you will need to skip over some of the highlights.
We were recommended to visit Whalers Way while on a recent stay at Port Lincoln. The Positives. -The Coastline is remarkably with many great spots to stop and take in the views along the Journey. -The roads are in pretty good shape and most spots I’d imagine you could get there in a 2WD vehicle. -For such an amazing location we only came across one other car during our journey, I’d assume that’s due to the $40 fee per car to enter. Some people have complained about this however this day and age that’s pretty reasonable for a full day family outing plus this allows you to camp on the premises for a night. The Negatives. -The place needs some infrastructure TLC. Many of the guard rails to protect people from plunging over a cliff have all rusted and fallen over. -Could do with some updated signage. It’s adequate but could be a bit more descriptive. Overall a great day exploring however I would have liked to know a little more about the history of the property along the way. A missed opportunity of a Gem of a property.
This place should be listed as a “must do” on the Eyre Peninsula. I list it in the “Top Ten List” of things you have to do in The Eyre. It’s a private rd and you need a $40 permit from the Port Lincoln Information centre to gain an access code and you’ll need a full day to totally enjoy. The main rd through this area is a graded rd and is in reasonable condition. It has some corrugations and minor sandy and rocky sections. 2wd vehicles will need to drive according to conditions. Mainly rocky rough patches will need to be taken slowly.
Unbelievable scenery so glad we visited Port Lincoln Tourist Bureau as we knew nothing about this drive. We were there for 5 hours, the road is a bit rough but our 2WD drive Ignis managed. Would highly recommend .
An absolutely stunning coastal cliff property of a photographers delight with many beautiful beaches. There are lots to drive to and plenty of walks ranging in size and difficulty. Awesome camping anywhere you want and reasonably priced. The longer you stay, the cheaper it works out. Big bonus is it's dog friendly. Just keep them on a lead for their own safety and the wildlife. The roads can be rough and rocky, but I'm so pleased my old low clearance Nissan urvan completed the task.
Lovely bays with crystal clear waters. Spotted our first whale of the season here today. Surfers having a magical time also. Road out suitable for all cars. Spotted a family of emus on the way home also.
You won’t know there are some brilliant holes when you pass . It is an adventure to the natural holes follow Ben . He took the amazing pictures here.

Windy derrrrr lol. Very nice view. Go there
Beautiful view of Port Lincoln eventhough the weather was poor.
Excellent views of Port Lincoln from here. It was super windy when we came and rained a little too. We managed to capture a beautiful rainbow. Great spot to take pictures.
Very, very windy the day we were there. Great views over Port Lincoln. Can drive to lookout, it has an observation tower that does protect you from the wind a bit.

One word - magic. Staffed by volunteers who obviously love their work. Lovingly restored boars of all sorts, models, illustrations, all providing a maritime history of Port Lincoln and surrounds. A must see.
Highly recommend a visit. Learned a lot about boat building and the history of fishing and Port Lincoln from the well organised exhibitions and short films. Very friendly people working there too. Go check it out.
A fascinating place to visit great historical information about a large number of different types of boats. Also the living quarters of Axel Stenross his wife, and his friend. Genuine cartographic maps by Matthew Flinders. So much more about the Port Lincoln town.
Excellent museum with plenty to read and look at - history, back to Matthew Flinders with a copy of his charts of this area, the actual boat building workshop and living quarters and a great collection of wooden boats. It pays to go to the museum to see if they're open as the info on Google maps isn't always correct. It said it was closed but it was open on a public holiday when we got there.
Wow! Probably the best maritime museum in Australia. We very much enjoyed our time here. The collection is extensive and impressive. The staff (all volunteers) have a wealth of knowledge to share. Lloyd, Brian and John had many stories and information to share when we visited. Allow plenty of time as there is so much to take in. Thanks once again! We will return :-) Here are some photos of this excellent museum. A 'must see' when visiting Port Lincoln!
$10 entry, short informative video, wander at your leisure. Lovely volunteer had alot of information. Well worth the visit
What a museum, the staff are absolutely brilliant, super friendly and knowledgeable, so much to see, so much history under one roof, well worth the visit,
The Axel Stenross Museum is an Aladdin's cave of maritime history treasures. Although primarily focussed on the maritime history of Port Lincoln, this is in part also Australia's maritime story. The Museum is well divided into separate parts of the story (explorers, fishing, equipment, boats etc). The friendly host provides a good briefing and the experience starts with a very interesting 20min video. Don't be deceived by the simple shed like external appearance, this is well worth 2 or 3 hours of your time (more if you like to really mull over the wonders of how they achieved so much) Sadly it was raining on our visit so no photos of the magnificent vessels outside but we could view them from indoors. Entry is around $10 with the usual concessions and plenty of parking. Toilets on site.

I met Ellie the Ranger and she was such an asset to the area with her local knowledge and also very kind and helped me out when I was in a tight spot. It's a really wonderful Park it'd be nice to figure a way to slow the traffic down in National parks as wildlife are getting a flogging. A great variety of camps and also many with internet for those that need it. When you have a group of people in cars it's extremely economical but when you're just a single person like myself not so much. Some more options would be good. Thanks very much for all of the great work and thank you again Ellie.
Sadly we (2 couples) found this NP rather underwhelming. Although we didn’t do any of the southerly tracks to the surf side and kept our sightseeing on the northern length of the bay coast. Sorry but after spending time in the western Eyre coastline must have spoilt us quite a bit and found most of these beaches uninviting except for September Beach at the northern most end of the NP. It s a nice beach for all to swim and enjoy.
Very beautiful beaches. Worth the time to get to them.
Beautiful place but lots of gates with no access
So many beautiful places to see! Amazing scenery!
Stayed at Woodcutters Beach and really enjoyed it despite there being no toilets. Great walk along the beach with a nice dip. Saw a lonely dolphin and the view was spectacular.
Excellent spot to explore only a short drive from Port Lincoln. With the vast majority of the park accessible via a bitumen road, access is pretty easy to most spots. Do take a drive out to Carcase Rock, it's a bit of a rocky, bumpy track (4wd recommended) but the drive is worth it!
Great beaches and hidden coves. Sealions playing just off the rocks near the lighthouse. Even a couple of rock parrots sunbathing on the gorgeous rocks. Cool tracks to explore by foot and car. Many different camping spots. Really worth a visit!

Q&A about Port Lincoln

I did Adelaide to Sydney last year! I went from Adelaide, the Flinders Ranges, Broken Hill, Nyngan, Parkes, Gundagai, Canberra, Sydney. I used the “big things” as pit stops mostly, but there’s tons of truck stops if you end up travelling through the outback. Broken Hill was one of my favourite places I’ve ever visited in Australia so would 100% recommend it
