Our family has stayed at Nusa Dua five times — four at Apurva Kempinski, our repeat favorite, and once at Renaissance. With kids, we love the calm beaches, kids clubs, and the ease of staying mostly within the resort bubble.

🌟 Start Here: Why Nusa Dua Works for Families

Hi, I’m a mom of two little girls (currently 6 and 4 years old), and Nusa Dua has become our family’s favorite when we want a luxury Bali trip that still works with kids. We’ve stayed here five times now — four times at The Apurva Kempinski (our mainstay) and once at Renaissance Nusa Dua. Apurva is the resort we keep coming back to, while Renaissance and the other properties in this guide are more for variety or wishlist research. Each stay gave us a clearer picture of how this area, usually known for upscale adult holidays, can actually be a calm, kid-friendly choice.
Unlike Sanur’s laid-back local vibe or Canggu’s party energy, Nusa Dua is a gated, upscale bubble: safe, secure, and designed around beach resorts. The beach is clean and calm (perfect for little swimmers), there are stroller-friendly promenades, and many resorts offer kids clubs, shallow pools, and family-friendly dining. True, it’s not very walkable outside the resort zone — but that’s the point. Once you check in, you barely need to leave.
In this guide, I’ll share everything we’ve learned from repeat stays and deep-dive mom research:
  • 🏨 Real hotel notes from Apurva & Renaissance — plus wishlist resorts we’ve researched
  • 🌊 What the beach is actually like for toddlers
  • 🎠 Family activities & outings
  • 🌴 The best family-friendly beach clubs
  • 🍴 Where we actually eat (hotel dining, restaurants, GoJek lifesavers)
  • 💡 Mom-tested planner tips — from stroller use to photoshoots
✨ Planning a longer Bali holiday? Don’t miss our Full Bali with Toddlers Guide, which covers other neighborhoods like Seminyak, Canggu,  and Jimbaran. Or see how it compares to our sister guide: 4D3N Sanur with Kids.
Whether this is your first Nusa Dua stay or you’re coming back for more, I hope this guide helps you enjoy the calm, family-friendly side of Bali — with plenty of sparkle for both kids and grown-ups.

🌊 Nusa Dua: Our Luxury “Staycation” Side of Bali

📍 Nusa Dua sits on Bali’s southeast coast, just 20–30 minutes from the airport. It’s famous for its string of luxury beachfront resorts along one main coastal road — from The Apurva Kempinski and Mulia, to St. Regis, Ritz-Carlton, Renaissance, and Marriott. This stretch is all about comfort: clean, calm, and safe, with resorts offering everything families need in one place.
The beaches here are hotel-managed and well-kept — soft sand, gentle waves, and easy access straight from the resort gardens. For families, this is the real perk: no travel required, just step out of your room, play at the beach, and head back in minutes when little ones get tired.
Why families love it:
  • Calm, swimmable waters managed by the hotels
  • Resorts with kids clubs, playgrounds, and shallow pools
  • Secure, low-traffic environment where you can truly relax
What to note:
  • It’s not walkable outside the resort strip — you’ll need a car for dining or attractions beyond your hotel.
  • Travel to other neighborhoods can be long: Seminyak or Canggu 1+ hr, Ubud/zoo/safari about 1–2 hrs (traffic adds more).
✨ For us, Nusa Dua works best as a staycation-style Bali trip: slow mornings, pool play, hotel beach days, and just one or two outings — usually an animal park (zoo, safari, or bird park) and a day at a Uluwatu beach club.
💡 After many stays here — and as our kids grew older (meaning more activities to fit in) — we started to feel tired of the long drives across Bali’s busy roads just to reach attractions. That’s the big con to be aware of: if you want variety, Nusa Dua can feel isolating. This is why Sanur became our new favorite base. BUT, if your main objective is a true staycation and to fully enjoy the resort, Nusa Dua is still perfect.

Nusa Dua vs Sanur — Which Fits Your Family?

Choose Nusa Dua if…
  • You want an all-in-one resort with private beach, pools, and kids club
  • Luxury, safety, and convenience matter more than walkability
  • You prefer to stay put and plan max 1 outing per day
Choose Sanur if…
  • You love a laid-back, local vibe with cafés and warungs along the promenade
  • Walkability is key (stroller-friendly paths, easy food runs)
  • You want a calmer, less “resort bubble” atmosphere
✨ Both are toddler-friendly, but they deliver very different rhythms: Sanur = local charm + walkable mornings, Nusa Dua = luxury bubble + slow resort days.

🗓 4D3N Itinerary in Nusa Dua

When we stay in Nusa Dua, our days are centered on the resort itself — slow mornings, easy pool or beach time, and just one main activity per day. We don’t try to chase multiple spots, because Bali traffic is unpredictable and little kids do best with a steady rhythm.
Here’s the flow we usually follow:
  • Day 1: Settle in + beach/pool + light dinner
  • Day 2: One big “adventure day” (Zoo, Safari, Bird Park, or Waterbom)
  • Day 3: Easy local outing or Uluwatu beach club
  • Day 4: Resort photoshoot, pool, and souvenir stop before flying home

Day 1

Arrival & Settle In
📍 What We Did: After landing and checking in, we kept it very simple: pool splash, play at the kids’ area, and an early dinner either at the hotel or a family-friendly beach club like Reef or Manarai.
🗂️ Flow:
  • Morning: Flight / airport transfer
  • Midday: Check-in + room snack picnic
  • Afternoon: Pool / kids pool / beach
  • Evening: Reef or Manarai for early dinner
  • 💡 Mom Tip: Don’t overplan Day 1 — everyone’s tired from travel, and resort facilities are more than enough.

Day 2

Adventure Day
📍 What We Did: This is our “big day out.” We pick just one major activity — Bali Zoo, Safari, Bird Park, or Waterbom (easier drive from Nusa Dua than Sanur). It takes 3–5 hours including travel, so we build the whole day around it.
🗂️ Flow:
  • Morning: Early breakfast
  • Midday: Main activity (Zoo / Safari / Bird Park / Waterbom)
  • Afternoon: Back to resort, nap or pool cool-down
  • Evening: Easy hotel dinner
  • 💡 Mom Tip: Pack hats, sunscreen, refillable bottles, and snacks. Waterbom is best for older toddlers/kids with energy; Safari & Bird Park are gentler for little ones.

Day 3

Easy Outing to Uluwatu Beach Club
📍 What We Did
After a big day yesterday, this was our recovery day. We kept it simple: hotel fun in the morning, downtime at midday, and a family-friendly Uluwatu beach club for a change of scene in the afternoon.
🗂️ Flow
  • Morning: Hotel beach / kids club
  • Midday: Nap / downtime
  • Afternoon: Uluwatu beach club (car + driver)
  • Evening: Dinner at hotel or nearby restaurant
💡 Mom Tip: Leave around 2:30–3:00 pm to avoid the worst traffic and still be back before bedtime.

Day 4

Photos, Pool & Going Back Home
📍 What We Did: We always end with a resort photoshoot — morning light, kids still fresh. Then one last swim, pack, and a quick stop for souvenirs before heading to the airport.
🗂️ Flow:
  • Morning: Resort photoshoot (before swims)
  • Midday: Breakfast + last pool play
  • Afternoon: Pack + check-out
  • On the way: Souvenir stops (Krisna, Harum Cake, Pia Legong)
  • 💡 Mom Tip: Pre-book your photographer and pick an early slot — it keeps the mood calm and gives you photos worth framing.
✨ This flow balances luxury resort time with just enough adventure. The result: kids stay happy, parents actually relax, and you don’t end up exhausted from Bali’s long car rides.

Hotel Stay & Mom Notes

Nusa Dua is known for its upscale beachfront resorts, and that’s exactly what makes the area work for families who want a staycation-style trip. Instead of bouncing around Bali, you can check in, unpack, and let the hotel take care of almost everything — private beaches, kids clubs, multiple pools, and plenty of dining.
We’ve tried a few different stays in Nusa Dua, but The Apurva Kempinski is the one we’ve returned to again and again. Renaissance was a good value experiment (and works well for big groups), while Ritz-Carlton, Mulia, and Sofitel remain on our researched wishlist. This section shares our firsthand notes on Apurva and Renaissance, plus deep-dive comparisons for the others.

🏨 The Apurva Kempinski Bali – Family Luxury with Toddler-Friendly Touches

Rooms booked: Junior Suite Ocean View with Private Pool (100 sqm), Grand Deluxe Ocean Court (65 sqm)
Category: Luxury Splurge Stay
Rate: High-end; better value in off-season (Grand Deluxe ~IDR 4–5M, suites higher)
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Room Layout & Sleeping Setup
  • Junior Suite Ocean View with Private Pool – open-plan layout, huge bathroom with double sinks, rain shower, bathtub, private plunge pool, and ocean-view balcony. Our favorite category.
  • Grand Deluxe Ocean Court – smallest category at 65 sqm, but still spacious, stylish, and functional with a balcony.
  • Super king bed fit all four of us (toddlers aged 2 & 4). Extra bed possible, though we never needed it.
  • Private plunge pool in suite = perfect for toddlers who want a quick dip.
💬 Child policy: Kids stay free on existing bedding.
💬 Suite perk: Cliff Lounge access — quieter breakfast, snacks/cocktails, adults-only pool/jacuzzi.
🔎 Planner note: Even Grand Deluxe had space for 2 extra-large suitcases + stroller.
🛁 Child-Friendly Amenities
  • Bathrooms with bathtubs and double sinks — toddler-friendly.
  • Welcome gifts for kids: each of our kids received a Jalak doll plus a coloring book with colored pencils — a thoughtful touch that made them feel special.
  • Jalak Family Club (kids club): daily activities like crafts, outdoor games, and even a visit to Koral Restaurant to watch divers feed fish, rays, and small sharks.
  • Outdoor playground with swings, seesaws, and climbing frames for free play.
  • Kids pool with slides + toddler pool.
  • Expansive gardens for safe running and outdoor play.
🚫 Cribs and high chairs on request, not default.
☀️ Limited shade around pools/gardens — we found afternoon swims the most comfortable.
🍽 Food & Convenience
  • Buffet breakfast = excellent, wide and diverse.
  • Cliff Lounge breakfast = calm but fewer options.
  • Staff flexible: once made custom kids’ fried rice for us.
  • On-site restaurants tried:
    • Izakaya by Oku – elegant Japanese.
    • Bai Yun – shabu-shabu, easy family sharing.
    • Koral – aquarium dining; food average, but a great “event meal.”
📍 Location & Access
  • In Nusa Dua — designed for stay-in resort vacations.
  • Not walkable to shops/cafés; property sits on a cliff.
  • Buggy or stroller needed for long distances inside resort.
  • Convenient for last leg of trip (20–30 mins from airport).
  • Off-season = best rates + quieter experience.
🕐 Travel Day Logistics
  • Smooth, warm check-in/out.
  • Staff thoughtful: once helped with 2AM linen change when toddler was sick.
  • Efficient luggage service.
  • Remember repeat guests — always a warm touch.
📸 Visuals & Atmosphere
  • Resort more stunning than photos.
  • Dramatic lobby, koi ponds, lush gardens.
  • Two family photoshoots here — each looked unique thanks to variety of backdrops.
💰 Category & Value
  • Category: Luxury Splurge Stay
  • Price: High-end, especially dining.
  • Comparison: More family-ready than Mulia (skews adult); more resort-like than St. Regis. One of few 5★ resorts balancing elegance with toddler accessibility.
🔍 Booking Tips
  • Best rates off-season.
  • Suites worth it for Cliff Lounge access + plunge pool.
🧳 Nearby Hotels for Nannies
  • Hotel Santika Siligita (7 mins by car)
  • Mercure Bali Nusa Dua (8 mins by car; resort feel, large pool)
  • (Both clean, under IDR 1M/night with breakfast.)
💡 Who It’s Good For
Perfect for families with toddlers who want luxury without giving up kid-friendliness. Ideal for birthdays, anniversaries, or splurge staycations where you stay mostly inside the resort.
👉 Verdict: Still our #1 in Nusa Dua. Worth it if you want a high-end resort that remembers families as much as couples.

Renaissance Bali Nusa Dua Resort

Hotel
Extended stay hotel
🏨 Renaissance Bali Nusa Dua Resort – Playful, Spacious, but Not Our Repeat Pick
Stay details: 3 nights | Family of 4 (2 adults + 2 toddlers) + 2 nannies (separate room)
Rooms booked: 2 Interconnecting Double Rooms
Category: Mid-Range Family Resort with Marriott Polish
Rate: 4.8M IDR for 3 nights / 2 rooms (via Marriott Vacation Club promotion, required 90-min MVC presentation)
We booked Renaissance Bali Nusa Dua through a Marriott Vacation Club promotion that gave us two interconnecting rooms for a fantastic price. On paper, it ticked all the boxes: spacious rooms, splashy design, kid-friendly amenities, and Marriott polish. Many families rave about this property, and while we appreciated the space and playful touches, it didn’t feel like “us.” For our family’s preferences, it was fun to try once — especially with grandparents joining — but not a place we’d return to regularly.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Room Layout & Sleeping Setup
Our two interconnecting double rooms were very generous in size, with two large double beds in each room. Co-sleeping with toddlers was easy and comfortable, and there was still plenty of floor space for luggage, stroller parking, and play. The big drawback was the bathroom layout: instead of a door, there was only a curtain partition between the bathroom and bedroom. It felt modern and open, but less practical for privacy when traveling with extended family or helpers. Kids under 12 stay free using existing bedding, and overall, the rooms were clean and modern, but the design choice around the bathroom wasn’t ideal for us.
🛁 Child-Friendly Amenities
This is where Renaissance shines: the kids’ pool has a colorful splash zone and water play features, and the kids club is lively with supervised activities like arts, crafts, and games. Cribs, high chairs, and kid-sized amenities such as toiletries and slippers were provided on request. The design is clearly family-oriented, with playful décor throughout the resort, but it didn’t feel as naturally relaxing for parents as beachfront or nature-integrated resorts like Apurva Kempinski.
🍽 Food & Convenience
Breakfast offered all the staples — eggs, pancakes, fruit, Indonesian dishes, and a small kid-focused spread. It was fine, but nothing memorable flavor-wise. On-site dining options included Backstage for buffet meals, Lava Land Pool Bar for casual family bites, and Tanah Liat with seafood and plant-based menus. Room service included a decent kids’ menu, which we appreciated. Overall, the food worked, but it lacked the “wow” factor we’ve experienced at other Bali resorts.
📍 Location & Access
The resort sits in the hills of Nusa Dua, which means it isn’t beachfront. Shuttle or car access is required for beaches like Geger or Samuh, about 10–15 minutes away. The property itself is modern and mostly stroller-friendly, though multiple levels and elevators can be a bit tricky. It’s fine for a resort-focused stay, but don’t expect walkability to shops or cafés.
🕐 Travel Day Logistics
Check-in through MVC was smooth and friendly, though the required 90-minute presentation is something to keep in mind if you book on promotion. Staff were warm toward our kids, quick with cribs and taxis, and overall service was consistent and professional. The property felt clean, organized, and efficient throughout.
📸 Visuals & Atmosphere
Renaissance is bright, bold, and playful. Murals, cheerful art, and multiple pools make it an Instagram-ready spot that younger kids will find exciting. That said, the resort lacked the calm, nature-integrated feel we loved at Apurva Kempinski — it felt more commercial and energetic than relaxing.
💰 Category & Value
  • Rate: 4.8M IDR for 3 nights / 2 rooms (MVC promo with 90-min presentation).
  • Category: Mid-Range Family Resort.
  • Verdict: A great value on paper, especially with promotions, but less of an emotional win compared to other resorts we love.
💡 Comparison:
  • More playful than InterContinental Sanur, but less beachfront.
  • Less luxurious than Kempinski or Andaz, but significantly cheaper with promos.
  • Good for large family groups (like ours with grandparents and nannies), but not a “return again” property for us.
🔍 Booking Tips
Look out for Marriott Vacation Club offers if you don’t mind sitting through a presentation. Marriott Bonvoy status may help with upgrades or late checkout. If traveling with toddlers, we recommend booking Two Double Bed Rooms over king + sofa bed — it’s the best setup for co-sleeping.
🧳 Nearby Hotels for Nannies
Hotel Santika Siligita Nusa Dua is a solid option just a few minutes’ drive away. But for us, the promo deal at Renaissance made it easiest to keep everyone — kids, parents, and grandparents — under one roof with two interconnecting rooms.
💡 Who It’s Good For
Families who want an affordable, modern resort with splash zones and a kids club, especially if traveling with grandparents or booking on promotion.
✨ Renaissance was fun to try once, but with so many other Bali resorts that better match our family’s style, we wouldn’t return again.
Wishlist Resorts (Researched, Not Yet Tried)
Even though we tend to go back to familiar favorites, we’ve also researched other family-friendly resorts in Nusa Dua. These are the properties on our shortlist for future trips — ones that stood out for their kids clubs, room setups, or dining. Think of this as your “scouting report” if you want to compare beyond Apurva and Renaissance.

Mulia Resort - Nusa Dua, Bali

Resort hotel
The Mulia is one of Bali’s most iconic luxury resorts — famous for its palatial design, lavish buffets, and sprawling beachfront grounds. It’s the kind of property that feels like its own world, with multiple wings, endless dining, and a reputation for over-the-top service. While it isn’t the most toddler-focused resort, it’s firmly on our wishlist for a future special-occasion family trip.
  • Stay details: Wishlist property (researched, not yet stayed)
  • Category: Ultra Luxury Beachfront Resort
  • Rate: ~3.2M IDR+ for Resort Rooms, ~10M IDR+ for Villas
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Room Layout & Sleeping Setup
The Mulia is divided into three distinct sections:
  • Mulia Resort — the main wing, more family-friendly, with larger pools and restaurants.
  • The Mulia — suites with butler service, more adult-oriented.
  • Mulia Villas — private 1–3BR villas with personal butlers and private pools.
Entry-level rooms in the Resort start at 57 sqm, with a king or twin setup and space for an extra bed or crib. Families looking for more privacy often choose a 1BR Villa or Royal Suite Ocean Court. Bathrooms are oversized with tubs and double sinks, and villas include spacious living areas for group stays.
💬 Child policy: Kids under 12 stay free with existing bedding.
💬 Booking tip: The Resort is best for young kids; Villas are ideal if you want quiet, privacy, and butler support.
🛁 Child-Friendly Amenities
Mulia offers a kids’ pool with fountains and shallow areas, along with the Mulia Kidz club (ages 3–8) for supervised play, toys, and creative activities. High chairs, cribs, and baby amenities are provided on request. Villas add the benefit of a private pool — shaded and perfect for little ones to splash safely.
💬 Compared to Apurva Kempinski, Mulia feels more adult-luxury, so highly active toddlers may be better suited elsewhere.
🍽️ Food & Convenience
Food is one of Mulia’s biggest draws. The Café has become legendary for its award-winning buffet, often considered the best in Bali for sheer variety and presentation. Other restaurants include:
  • Table8 (Chinese)
  • Soleil (Mediterranean, beachside brunch hotspot)
  • Edogin (Japanese)
  • Sky Bar and ZJ’s Lounge
Villa guests also enjoy private dining or The Lounge for breakfast. Kids’ menus are available, but the vibe leans more toward indulgence than kid-practicality.
📍 Location & Access
The Mulia sits on a quiet stretch of Nusa Dua Beach, calm and swimmable during low tide. The wide beachfront paths are stroller-friendly and connect to other resorts. Within 5–10 minutes you can reach Bali Collection for shops, pharmacies, or more dining variety.
The property itself is huge, so expect lots of walking or buggy rides — manageable with strollers but not as compact as Kempinski or Ritz.
🕐 Travel Day Logistics
Service is famously polished and attentive, especially in villas and suites with butler support. Check-in/check-out is smooth, though the Resort lobby gets busy at peak times. Butlers help with everything from dining reservations to child routines, making villa stays particularly seamless.
📸 Visuals & Real Reviews
The Mulia is grand, opulent, and photo-ready — Roman statues, infinity pools, beachfront cabanas. Reviews consistently praise the lavish design and pristine grounds, though some families feel the atmosphere leans adult-focused. It’s a resort made for big occasions — weddings, milestone birthdays, or once-in-a-lifetime holidays.
💰 Category & Value
  • Mulia Resort Rooms: ~3.2–4.5M IDR
  • The Mulia Suites: ~6–8M IDR
  • Mulia Villas: ~10–15M IDR+
🏷️ Category: Ultra Luxury Beachfront Resort
⭐️ Best for families who want space, elegance, and indulgence.
💡 Compared to others:
  • More formal than Sofitel, more polished than St. Regis
  • Less playful than Kempinski, but unmatched in culinary variety
  • Villas give the most family flexibility, while Resort rooms are good for shorter stays
🔍 Booking Tips
  • Book via Asia Friendly (Ms. Lita, +62 811 3865 444) for promos
  • Direct site sometimes offers family/spa/meal credit packages
  • Not tied to major chains — no loyalty perks with Marriott, IHG, or Accor
🧳 Nearby Hotels for Nannies
For helpers or relatives, Mercure Nusa Dua (~10 minutes) is a practical and affordable option (under 1M/night with breakfast). If you book a 1BR Villa, however, there’s usually enough space to keep everyone together onsite.
💡 Who It’s Good For
Families looking for a sophisticated beachfront escape, especially with older kids or multigenerational groups.
✨ While it’s not the most toddler-geared hotel, Mulia shines for privacy, elegance, and food — and it’s firmly on our wishlist for the next big family celebration.

Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort

Building
Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua blends French-inspired elegance with Bali’s tropical warmth, making it one of the most popular luxury beachfront resorts on the island. On paper, it ticks many family boxes: beachfront access, spacious rooms, multiple pools, and an excellent kids’ club. We haven’t stayed yet, but it remains high on our wishlist for a refined, family-focused stay in Nusa Dua.
  • Stay details: Wishlist property (researched, not yet stayed)
  • Category: Family-Friendly Beachfront Luxury
  • Rate: ~2.8M IDR+ for Luxury Rooms, ~8–10M IDR+ for Villas
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Room Layout & Sleeping Setup
Entry-level rooms start at 48 sqm with either 1 king or 2 queen beds, and some allow for a sofa bed or extra bed setup. Families often choose the Luxury Room with 2 queen beds for convenience, or the Prestige Suite for a separate living area. Villas and Luxury Pool Access Rooms are also available, offering direct swim-up access or private pools.
💬 Child policy: Kids under 12 usually stay free using existing bedding.
💬 Booking tip: The Luxury Room with 2 queen beds is practical for families with two small kids. Suites or villas work best if you want more privacy or a pool to yourselves.
🛁 Child-Friendly Amenities
Sofitel is often highlighted as a kid-friendly luxury option. The Kids Villa club hosts supervised activities, arts and crafts, and indoor play spaces. The resort has several pools, including a dedicated kids’ pool with slides, plus shaded cabanas for family lounging. Cribs and high chairs are available on request, and many families note how warmly the staff interact with children. The beach is calm and swimmable, especially at low tide, making it toddler-safe.
🍽️ Food & Convenience
Breakfast is one of Sofitel’s biggest strengths — praised for its variety, quality, and French pastries, alongside Indonesian staples and kid-friendly basics. Dining options include:
  • Kwee Zeen (international buffet)
  • Cucina (Italian/French steakhouse)
  • Toya Beach Bar & Grill
  • Club Millésime (exclusive lounge for certain guests)
Villa and suite guests may have access to private dining venues, while room service menus offer kid-friendly choices. Another bonus: the property is within walking distance of The Bay Nusa Dua, where you’ll find more casual beachfront dining.
📍 Location & Access
Sofitel sits on a prime stretch of Nusa Dua Beach with calm waters and stroller-friendly pathways. It connects directly to the beach promenade, great for bike rides, sunrise walks, or family strolls. Bali Collection Mall, convenience stores, and pharmacies are a short drive away. The resort itself is flat and accessible, making it stroller- and wheelchair-friendly.
🕐 Travel Day Logistics
Families often note smooth check-in/check-out and staff who are proactive with kid-related requests (crib setup, early meals, etc.). Early check-in is frequently accommodated. Airport transfers are easy to arrange, and large taxis or hotel cars are available for outings.
📸 Visuals & Real Reviews
Design combines modern French-Balinese style with tropical landscaping. The lagoon-style pools, beachfront cabanas, and gardens are very photogenic. Families consistently praise the clean, colorful kids’ club (though best for ages 3+) and the relaxed yet polished vibe of the resort.
💰 Category & Value
  • Luxury Rooms: ~2.8–3.5M IDR
  • Prestige Suites/Pool Access Rooms: ~5–6M IDR
  • Villas: ~8–10M IDR+
🏷️ Category: Family-Friendly Beachfront Luxury
⭐️ A splurge-worthy option for families who want upscale comfort, quality food, and real beach access.
💡 Compared to others:
  • More luxurious than The Meru, less private than Andaz Villas
  • Bigger grounds and livelier than Indigo, but less serene than Kempinski
  • Often compared to Mulia — Sofitel wins for breakfast and beach walkability
🔍 Booking Tips
  • Accor ALL members get discounts, upgrades, or late check-out.
  • Booking via Accor app or Asia Friendly Travel Agent (Ms. Lita, +62 811 3865 444) can unlock bundled promos.
🧳 Nearby Hotels for Nannies
Practical nanny stays nearby include Hotel Grand Whiz and Amaris Nusa Dua (5 minutes by car) — clean, affordable, and reliable.
💡 Who It’s Good For
Families who want a polished beachfront experience with plenty for kids to do, without giving up luxury. Works well for those who value brand-name polish, good food, and a full resort atmosphere that balances parent treats with child-friendly fun.
✨ We haven’t stayed yet, but Sofitel remains high on our wishlist — especially for its legendary breakfasts, villa options, and direct beach access.

The Ritz-Carlton, Bali

Hotel
Meeting planning service
Wedding venue
The Ritz-Carlton has been on our wishlist for a while — the room sizes, beachfront access, and calm resort layout make it a strong contender for a peaceful, luxurious family holiday. But when the price is close, we often end up choosing Apurva Kempinski, simply because it’s a known favorite. Still, Ritz remains high on our list for the next special occasion trip.
  • Stay details: Wishlist property (researched, not yet stayed)
  • Category: Calm Beachfront Luxury
  • Rate: ~5–6.5M IDR for entry-level suites
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Room Layout & Sleeping Setup
Even the entry-level Sawangan Junior Suites are huge at 84 sqm — larger than many standard Bali hotel rooms. Most come with 1 king + sofa bed, with the option to add an extra bed or crib. Families often upgrade to Pool Access Suites or Two-Bedroom Villas for more space and privacy. Rooms include walk-in closets, oversized bathrooms with tubs, and private balconies or terraces.
💬 Child policy: Kids under 12 stay free using existing bedding.
💬 Booking tip: The Sawangan Junior Suite is great value if you want luxury space without villa pricing.
🛁 Child-Friendly Amenities
Ritz takes families seriously with its Ritz Kids program, offering a beautifully designed kids’ club, cultural activities, and supervised play for ages 4–12. The resort has a dedicated kids’ pool with splash zone, along with shallow toddler-friendly sections in the main pools. Cribs, high chairs, and baby amenities are available on request, and staff often leave coloring kits or towel animals in the room.
💬 Compared to Kempinski: Ritz feels calmer, with bigger base rooms, while Kempinski is more dramatic and architectural.
🍽️ Food & Convenience
Breakfast is beachfront and generous, with both Indonesian and international selections. Dining options include:
  • Bejana – Indonesian fine dining
  • The Beach Grill – fresh seafood with ocean views
  • Raku – Japanese
  • Plus casual poolside snacks & afternoon tea
Food is refined and consistent, though with fewer venues than Kempinski. Families note the quieter atmosphere — perfect for slow breakfasts or early dinners with kids.
📍 Location & Access
Set directly on Nusa Dua Beach, the Ritz enjoys calm waters safe for toddler paddling at low tide. The property connects to the Nusa Dua beachfront promenade, ideal for stroller walks or morning jogs. Layout is flat and stroller-friendly, unlike cliffside resorts, and the Bali Collection Mall is a short drive away if you want dining variety.
🕐 Travel Day Logistics
Service is warm and high-touch from arrival. Villas and higher suites come with butler service, which can assist with children’s routines and meal preferences. Marriott Bonvoy members often receive late check-out or early check-in, and staff are noted for flexibility with families.
📸 Visuals & Atmosphere
Elegant and tropical, with lush but uncluttered landscaping. Many rooms feature sweeping ocean views. Families highlight the balance of luxury and warmth, noting that it feels serene without being overly formal.
💰 Category & Value
  • Rates:
    • Sawangan Junior Suite: ~5–6.5M IDR
    • Pool Access Suites: ~7–9M IDR
    • Villas: ~10–15M IDR+
  • Category: Calm Beachfront Luxury
  • Verdict: Spacious, refined, and serene — but less “grand statement” than Kempinski.
💡 Compared to others:
  • More polished than Sofitel, less showy than Mulia
  • Kempinski = destination spectacle, Ritz = quiet elegance
  • Great for families who want space and calm, not a packed resort schedule
🔍 Booking Tips
  • Bonvoy points can be excellent value here
  • Direct promos sometimes include lounge access or added perks
  • Club lounge is included with some room categories or available as an add-on

🧳 Nearby Hotels for Nannies
Hotel Santika Siligita (~10 minutes by car) is the most practical choice for helpers — affordable (under 1M/night), breakfast included, and clean. If you’re booking a 2-bedroom villa, a nanny can also comfortably stay onsite.
💡 Who It’s Good For
Families who value large rooms, refined service, and a slower pace, with all the comforts of a luxury beachfront property.
✨ Still high on our wishlist — and likely the spot we’ll book when we want a calmer, restorative stay. If we didn’t love Kempinski so much, we probably would have stayed here already.

  • 💎 Best for: Families who want dramatic design + luxury with kid-friendly touches
  • ✅ Highlights: Kids club with unique activities, aquarium dining, plunge pool suites
  • ⚠️ Note: Cliffside layout = less walkable, more buggy rides
The Ritz-Carlton, Bali
  • 💎 Best for: Spacious rooms + calm, elegant atmosphere
  • ✅ Highlights: Huge entry-level rooms, Ritz Kids program, stroller-friendly beachfront
  • ⚠️ Note: More serene than playful — better for families who want slow days
The Mulia, Nusa Dua
  • 💎 Best for: Foodies + multigenerational groups
  • ✅ Highlights: Famous buffet, grand villas with butlers, pristine beach
  • ⚠️ Note: Vibe leans adult/formal; kids club is good but not the main focus
Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua
  • 💎 Best for: Families who want polished luxury with walkable beachfront
  • ✅ Highlights: Excellent breakfast, kids’ club, multiple pools, stroller-friendly paths
  • ⚠️ Note: Livelier and less private than Kempinski or Ritz
Renaissance Nusa Dua
  • 💎 Best for: Budget-conscious families who still want a splashy Marriott stay
  • ✅ Highlights: Colorful design, kids’ splash zone, great MVC promo deals
  • ⚠️ Note: Not beachfront, bathroom privacy design may not suit everyone
👉 Planning tip: If you want a tested and proven choice, go for Apurva Kempinski — it’s the resort we’ve returned to four times and know works beautifully with little kids. Renaissance is a one-off value pick, good if you’re using Marriott promos or need multiple rooms for extended family.
For the wishlist hotels:
  • Ritz-Carlton = calmer, spacious entry rooms, and refined service — great if you want serenity and stroller-friendly beachfront.
  • Sofitel = polished luxury with lively pools and legendary breakfast, plus easy beach walkability.
  • Mulia = grand, formal, and all about food — perfect for multigenerational trips or families who love indulgence and private villas.
✨ In short: Kempinski is our proven favorite, Ritz for calm elegance, Sofitel for balance + walkability, Mulia for grandeur, and Renaissance for value.

Nanny / Relatives Hotel Options (Value Picks)

If you’re traveling with a nanny or relatives, these nearby hotels are affordable, clean, and usually under IDR 1M/night with breakfast. We’ve stayed at both Santika and Mercure, and usually just book whichever is cheaper at the time.
  • Grand Whiz Nusa Dua — Closest to Sofitel; simple and convenient.
  • Hotel Santika Siligita (3★) — Near Renaissance; clean rooms, decent pool, filling breakfast.
  • Mercure Nusa Dua (4★) — Near Mulia, Apurva, Ritz, and St. Regis; affordable resort feel with a large pool and better views, though breakfast is just average.
💡 Mom Note: Santika and Mercure both work well — we alternate depending on price. Mercure has the edge on views and resort vibe, but either will do the job comfortably.

Luxury resorts in Nusa Dua can make family life so much easier — but pairing them with a practical nearby option for helpers, or rotating between a “dream stay” and a midrange hotel, can stretch your budget further. Always book early (especially in peak holiday seasons), and don’t be afraid to mix-and-match: the right hotel combo can make a Bali trip smoother for the whole family.

Family-Friendly Beach Clubs

Beach clubs in Nusa Dua feel different from Seminyak or Canggu — calmer, family-oriented, and resort-style. We love them because the kids can play between pool, sand, and snacks, while parents get a slice of Bali’s signature beach vibe.

Adventure Day Options (Half-Day Outings)

We usually dedicate one big day of our Nusa Dua stay to an animal park or Waterbom. These require 1–1.5 hours’ drive each way, so we plan them as half-day adventures (morning departure, back by late afternoon). With little kids, one outing like this per trip is more than enough.
Options we rotate between:
  • Bali Zoo — smaller, easy to walk, best for toddlers.
  • Bali Safari & Marine Park — bigger, safari bus, animal shows.
  • Bali Bird Park — compact, colorful, stroller-friendly.
  • Waterbom Bali — huge waterpark, better for older toddlers/kids with energy.
💡 Mom Tip: Always pre-book tickets on tiket.com — cheaper with promos and hassle-free on the day. Pack hats, refillable bottles, and snacks, and leave early (7:30–8:00 am) to make the most of the cooler morning hours.

Food & Dining in Nusa Dua

Dining in Nusa Dua is very resort-centric. Inside the big hotels, you’ll find everything from all-day buffets to fine dining — beautiful, yes, but also pricey (you can easily spend 1.5M IDR per meal for a family). That’s why we mix it up: most nights we eat in the resort for convenience, but every trip we make time for one or two meals outside for variety and value.
To keep things simple, I’ve divided this section into:
  1. Restaurants inside The Apurva Kempinski (where we’ve stayed multiple times, so I have firsthand notes)
  2. Other restaurants near Nusa Dua — these are places we actually go to when we want a change:
    • Menega Café Jimbaran – classic Bali seafood by the beach
    • HTP Seafood – another Jimbaran option
    • UN’s Restaurant (Legian) – relaxed Western/Indonesian, good stop if you’re in the area
    • Bali Nikmat (Sunset Road) – Chinese seafood, worth a detour especially on the way back from half-day outings
    • Rayjin (Seminyak) – Japanese, a treat if you’re up for the drive
💡 Mom Tip: With kids, we usually save “outside dinners” for days when we’re already out (like after a half-day adventure). For evenings inside Nusa Dua, the resort or nearby mall makes life easiest.

Date Nights in & Beyond Nusa Dua

Traveling with kids doesn’t mean parents can’t enjoy a little luxury of their own. With a nanny or relatives holding down the fort, we sometimes sneak out for an adults-only dinner. The nice thing about Nusa Dua is that many fine-dining spots are right inside the resort strip — think Koral at Apurva, Kayuputi at St. Regis, or Soleil at The Mulia — so you don’t even need to leave the area.
If you do feel like venturing out, Uluwatu’s cliffside beach clubs and Seminyak’s restaurants are about 45–75 minutes away (traffic depending). We usually save those for a special night when we’re craving a different vibe. Even just one evening out here feels like such a treat — a reminder that parents deserve Bali magic too.

Must go
Food Highlights
Not a steakhouse, but the steak here was juicy, perfectly cooked, and memorable. Honestly, everything on the menu feels special — even the complimentary bread at the start. The menu is broad, from seafood to meat, with thoughtful wine pairings if you’d like to indulge.
Atmosphere
Elegant yet relaxed, with breezy beachfront seating and ocean views. It’s quiet and polished without feeling stiff, making it perfect for a slow-paced, meaningful dinner.
Price & Value
Luxury-level pricing (expect $$$), but worth it for special moments. Kayuputi is one of those restaurants where the whole experience — food, service, and setting — feels worth the splurge.
Family Notes
Kids are technically welcome, and the menu has a few kid-friendly options. But for dinner, it’s best enjoyed as a parent-only night out — the calm pace suits adults. If you want to visit with kids, their weekend brunch is a better fit: more relaxed, wider variety, and family-friendly.
Who It’s For
Couples celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, or just treating themselves to a peaceful evening.
✨ One of our top Bali picks for special occasions — the steak is great, but truly, everything here shines.

Date Night Strategy for Parents
  • Pick one night only — with kids, even a single dinner out feels special.
  • Book early — popular restaurants like Koral, Kayuputi, or Soleil often fill up weeks in advance.
  • Go for the early seating — easier on the nanny/relatives, and you’ll still be back before it gets too late.
  • Stay nearby when possible — Nusa Dua’s resort strip has plenty of fine-dining options without the long drive. Save Uluwatu or Seminyak for when you’re ready to brave the traffic.
✨ A little planning goes a long way — one stress-free evening is enough to recharge and make the trip feel like a holiday for parents too.

Nasi Campur & Other Spicy Staples

Nasi Campur is a must-try in Bali — a plate of rice with sambal, meats, veggies, and side dishes. It’s bold, fiery, and honestly way too spicy for toddlers 😅 — which is why this section is all about the parents.
When we stay in Nusa Dua, we usually enjoy these dishes via GoJek/Grab delivery or takeaway. It’s the easiest way: order a few boxes, enjoy them in the quiet of your hotel balcony or room, and maybe even sneak in a cold drink while the kids nap.
For each spot, I’ll share whether it’s available on delivery apps, the spice level (using 🔥 emojis), and what we usually order. This is Bali’s version of parent fuel: a fiery rice plate that keeps you going through long afternoons of beach play and sunscreen reapplications.

Warung Nasi Ayam Ibu Oki

cheap
Chicken restaurant
🛍️ Best for: Takeaway or delivery only — we’ve never dined in
🔥 Spice level: 🔥🔥 (2/5) – Manageable heat, which is why it’s our go-to!
This is our #1 pick when we’re craving Nasi Ayam Bali that’s flavorful but not overwhelmingly spicy. The sambal has a kick, but it’s mellow enough to enjoy the full plate — shredded chicken, lawar (spiced veggies), egg, and satay lilit over warm rice. A great intro to Balinese flavors for spice-sensitive adults.
📦 Delivery Tips
  • Available on GoFood (try searching “Warung Nasi Ayam Bu Oki”) — not every branch is listed, so check nearby areas
  • The Sanur branch is not on GoFood, but you can order directly via WhatsApp: +62 819 1666 9499
  • We usually order from Tuban or Nusa Dua depending on where we stay
💬 When we eat this: Perfect for a quick lunch back at the hotel or a solo dinner once the kids are asleep. It travels well and always arrives warm.

Warung Pojok

affordable
Hidden gem
🛍️ Best for: Takeaway or GoFood only — we haven’t dined in
🔥 Spice level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 (4/5) – Quite spicy, but you can request the sambal to be separated or set it aside easily
Craving bold, flavorful Nasi Campur with serious local flair? Warung Pojok delivers the punch — their sambal is intense, but the toppings and rice combo are worth it. Great for adults who love sambal, but still workable if you tone it down for yourself.
📦 Delivery Tips
  • Available on GoFood under “Warung Pojok, Nangka Selatan”
  • Pro tip: Always ask for the sambal to be separated if you’re sharing or unsure about the heat
Add-ons we recommend:
  • Paru goreng (crispy beef lung)
  • Kulit ayam Warjok (crispy chicken skin)
  • Kentang (potato) — comforting, balances out the heat nicely
💬 When we eat this: Usually a grown-up lunch while the kids nap — definitely not toddler-friendly, but so satisfying if you're craving real spice
This is one of our top two Nasi Campur spots in Bali — we always order this and Warung Nasi Ayam Bu Oki!

Warung Wardani Tuban

affordable
Balinese restaurant
Breakfast restaurant
🛍️ Best for: Takeaway or GoFood only — we haven’t dined in
🔥 Spice level: 🔥 (1/5) – More on the sweeter side than spicy
A longtime local favorite that consistently delivers comforting, well-balanced flavors — we love Warung Wardani for its kid-friendly options and generous portions. Their signature Nasi Campur isn’t spicy, making it one of the more toddler-tolerable options (or at least easy to modify).
📦 Delivery Tips
  • Available via GoFood, but often sells out quickly — order early!
  • We always check for their add-ons, which are honestly the highlight
👶 Kid-Friendly Option
✅ “Nasi Box Anak” – rice, egg, shredded chicken (non-spicy), vegetable soup, and satay lilit
It’s a rare find to have a kid's nasi box that’s truly mild and thoughtfully portioned
Best-sellers we recommend:
  • Crispy shrimp (Udang Crispy – 1 ons)
  • Beef satay (Sate Sapi Tusuk) – often sells out, so grab it when you can
💬 When we eat this: Ideal for a laid-back lunch in the hotel room or a quiet dinner after a long beach day. Feels like a treat without burning your mouth 🔥

Warung Pink Tempong

affordable
Indonesian restaurant
🛍️ Best for: Takeaway or GoFood only — we’ve never dined in
🔥 Spice level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 (5/5) – But sambal comes separately in a plastic pouch
This is our top pick for delivery in Bali — we always order it at least twice every trip. Simple, comforting, and consistently delicious. The menu is straightforward: pulen (fluffy) rice, crispy tempe & tofu, your choice of fried protein, and a side of sayur rebus (boiled vegetables) — a complete and balanced meal that works for both grown-ups and kids.
🍗 Menu Notes
✅ Choose from fried chicken, empal (beef), fried shrimp, or fried squid
✅ Comes with rice, fried tempe & tofu, and sayur rebus (steamed greens + vegetables) — always included in the set
Sambal is very spicy (level 5🔥) but packed separately — easy to skip or adjust
👶 Kid Notes
✅ Our kids love it — they eat the rice and fried tempeh/chicken happily
✅ Easy to divide into toddler-friendly and adult portions
✅ Veggies included in the set make it feel a bit more balanced
📦 Delivery Tips
  • Available on GoFood — multiple branches may show up depending on your location
  • Well-packed, arrives warm, and travels well
  • Great value — generous portions for the price
💬 Best eaten while still warm, but even leftovers hold up surprisingly well. Total comfort food, especially after a long day out.
One of our most-ordered meals in Bali. Toddler-approved, adult-loved, spicy sambal optional = a win for everyone.

Oleh-Oleh Bali — Cakes & Snacks to Bring Home

No Bali trip feels complete without oleh-oleh (souvenirs), and for us that usually means cakes and snacks. Here are our go-tos:
  • Buttery Lapis Legit — rich, layered Indonesian classic that keeps well.
  • Pia Legong — famous Balinese pia pastry, usually filled with mung bean or cheese.
  • Kacang Disco, Pie Susu, Salak Chips — all can be found at Krisna Pusat Oleh-Oleh, the one-stop shop near the airport.
📍 Where to Get Them
Most of these are located close to Ngurah Rai Airport, so we usually pick them up right after landing or just before flying home. For certain cakes (like Harum), we sometimes pre-order via WhatsApp and have them delivered by GoJek for convenience.

💡 Practical Planner Notes for Nusa Dua with Kids

Transport & Location
Nusa Dua is about 20–30 minutes from Ngurah Rai Airport. It’s much further from other Bali neighborhoods — expect 45–75 minutes to Seminyak or Canggu, and 1–2 hours to Ubud, Bali Zoo, Safari, or Bird Park (often longer with traffic). Because of this, we usually plan only one outing during a Nusa Dua stay. Bluebird taxis and Grab work fine, but with kids and luggage, hotel cars or private drivers are often easier.
Tides & Timing
The beaches here are hotel-managed, which makes them calm and predictable for kids. Mornings are the best time for beach play — cooler sun, gentle waves, and easy transitions back to your room for snacks or naps.
Packing Essentials
Bring reef-safe sunscreen, UV swimwear, puddle jumpers or floaties, beach toys, wet bags, and sandals that can go from pool to sand. A thin muslin or rashguard is useful for shade during midday play.
Stroller Use
Large resorts and the main coastal road are stroller-friendly, with wide paths and lifts, but transitions to the beach often require a buggy ride or a few stairs. We recommend a full-size stroller for resort grounds, plus a carrier if you plan to go outside the resort.
Reservations
Book special dining spots like Koral at Apurva, Kayuputi at St. Regis, or Soleil at The Mulia well in advance — they’re in-demand and often fill up. Family-friendly beach clubs such as Reef and Manarai are usually fine for walk-ins during the day, but weekends can get busy. For popular Uluwatu beach clubs, advance booking is recommended if you want a guaranteed spot, though walk-ins are sometimes possible.
Photoshoot
We love scheduling family photoshoots right at the resort — the gardens, pools, and beachfront give you plenty of backdrops without tiring the kids. Our go-to photographer is Bagus Astina (+62 878-6122-2145). Mention Laura/Reno when booking; he knows how to make kids comfortable on camera.
Hotel & Activity Bookings
We usually book directly on the hotel’s website or app, unless an OTA like Tiket.com offers strong promos. Our travel agent Asia Friendly (Ms. Lita, +62 811 386 5444) can also help secure package deals or bonus nights.
For activities, we always book tickets in advance through tiket.com (zoo, safari, bird park, Waterbom). Pre-booking is cheaper with promos and hassle-free on the day — especially important since Nusa Dua already means longer car rides.

Why We Keep Returning to Nusa Dua 🌟

Nusa Dua is often seen as Bali’s luxury bubble — polished, secure, and resort-heavy — but that’s exactly what makes it work when you’re traveling with little kids. The hotel-managed beaches, kids clubs, and the ease of being able to go from sand play straight back to your room mean less stress and more joy.
Across our stays — from splashy afternoons at Apurva Kempinski to playful mornings at Renaissance — the rhythm has been the same: slow starts, one simple outing, pool or beach club afternoons, early dinners, and early nights. And while the days repeat, they never feel boring. Instead, they feel predictable in the best way, with tiny, sparkling memories woven in.
That said, as our kids grew older and more adventurous, we noticed the downside: the long drives to reach Bali’s other neighborhoods and attractions can be tiring. That’s why Sanur has now become our “new favorite” base. But if your main goal is to soak in a resort staycation, Nusa Dua is still unmatched.
✨ I hope this Nusa Dua guide helps you plan a trip that’s restful, joyful, and full of sparkly little moments — whether you’re chasing calm toddler days or sneaking in a date night by the sea.
