Wonderful museum. Not busy during the day - was basically all to myself. Really cool models and retired planes. They recommend you start off with the Wroght Brothers' section. Inspirational! And make your way through to today's air and spacecraft by the end. They have a section on the second floor honoring the female heroes in aviation. Really nice to see. Many names, I'd not heard of or hadn't known well.

Museum of Flying (est 1974) is a 22,000 sq ft aerospace museum in Santa Monica, CA. This museum exhibits aviation history, a dozen aircrafts including a replica of the Wright bros and a Max FS 3000 simulator. MOF is basically a
hanger with a mezzanine.
I have been to every aerospace museums in LA/OC except this one. It’s very organized and well maintained; you can go through the entire exhibits in <90 minutes.
Staff were cordial. Admission ticket is affordable. Souvenir shop is very small with very limited merch and stuff. Overall, it’s a nice lil museum good for family and kids to visit.

My three-year-old boy had the best time here! The museum is quiet and not busy—many things to see and experience, including going inside some airplanes and even a small movie theater. What I like about the museum is that it’s not too stimulating! There is enough space between each exhibit, easy free parking, and quick pay at the front desk. This museum is suitable for adults too, as there are many things to see and to read about. I educated myself on something I didn’t know. If you have an hour to kill while you are in Santa Monica, this is an excellent option for you and/ or your kids.

免费的博物馆，需要提前在app上预约，但是即使没有预约，也可以进去，博物馆在山山上，需要乘坐小火车，第二次到访，还是美不胜收，工作人员都很友好，纪念品商店品类丰富，质量上乘，值得购买，特别是珠宝系列，除了馆藏珍品无需赘述以外，室外的花园是我的最爱，千万不要错过，还有可以充分休息和就餐的广场。

非常漂亮、整洁、有秩序的场馆，而且免费参观。停车场停好车后，坐小火车直达博物馆，停车场是收费的。一层主要是雕塑，二层为画展，户外拍照特别出片，天真的很蓝，蓝色不真实，就像油画一样。慢慢走，慢慢看，是个值得来的地方。
建筑本身就是艺术品。室外景观也精心设计。展品非常多，需要有足够的时间，也可以从西馆，比较熟悉的作品开始。值得多次造访的艺术博物馆。
An amazing place to learn arts, architecture, sculpture, garden and view. Make sure to have enough time here. Parking is 20 or 15 after 3 PM.

Easy parking lot. There are 2 areas to park. The first one is near the Back On The Beach restaurant, and the other one is closer to the Marion Davies Guest House, so there is plenty of parking! Bottom line, if the first lot is full, do not worry, just swing back to the entrance and turn left towards the Marion Davies House parking lot.
The pool is open to the public: $10 for adults, $4 for kids and $5 for seniors. Summer hours for 2025: 12noon-6pm( Monday -Thurs) Friday-Sunday ( 10am-6pm). Check the website to be sure.
Playground is great for little kids and places for adults to sit nearby. You can buy food at Back on the Beach TO GO and bring it outside and pick one of the nice patio tables to eat. Bathroom facilities are clean, by the playground with an outdoor shower to rinse off your feet.
Marion Davies Guest House has free docent tours 12noon-2pm to learn about the history of the only remaining building of what was once a 100+ room Beach House.

It has a walkway through the sand the parking is good. It's economical. There's a restaurant on it. There's volleyball chords. There's a pool that you can go swimming on Mondays. I really love this beach because it is so clean. It has a kids playground, pool, clean bathroom, volleyball courts on the sand, and clean ocean water. This place is so kid friendly. 进馆后正好碰上埃及特展，特展的志愿者讲解员，会循环带领参观者进行参观，志愿者看到我们这批里面有亚裔面孔，用特别清晰的咬字和缓慢的语气来讲解，非常感谢她，她也非常令人印象深刻（我后来碰到她带其他本地游客团的时候说话语速就比较快）。

I had a VERY Cool LA experience at the HAMMER MUSEUM when I visited on a Thursday October 2025. It was LA vibes from the minute I walked past the restaurant Lulu, it was clearly busy and the clientele looked more sophisticated, hip and local and than any other art gallery cafe that I have experienced. And no wonder looking at the concept in its entirety I could appreciate the whole package (my Trade background is a Chef) I had a fantastic oat hot chocolate at the end of a very stimulating and unique gallery experience and enjoyed people watching through my Australian lense. I could’ve easily spent US$500 on books alone such an inspiring collection. I hate to pick my favourite exhibition but I do have a weak spot for Japanese wood block prints.
The Hammer Museum has a fantastic blueprint I look forward to returning one day and schedule in lunch this time!

I went during their summer nights event. Very wonderful. They had free activities for kids and adults. People were drawing each other! Kids and adults played pingpong. There was live music; Healing Gems was my favorite set. There was also food but majority was sold out. Oh and a bar too lol. Of course there was art as well and it was wonderful. One of my favorite art museum experiences! I had never heard of the Hammer Museum, but decided to check it out since I love art and it was on the way. Turns out, this place is great! I could have just gotten lucky, but the current exhibitions are great: the darkly magical and mythic paintings of Noah Davis, infused with racial and political commentary sprinkled with glimmers of hope; the hypnotic, ethereal shadow-puppetry and projection art of Lap-See Lam; the immersive dystopian, cyberpunk world of NOX created by Lawrence Lek; and the blurring of lines between visual art and performance/music arts in Performance on Paper.
Bonus: entry is free, and the validated parking right there in the garage is easy and affordable (currently $8)

What a sweet little aquarium. Splendid big tanks with nice signs for identifying the various creatures. Big, active lobsters and moray eels. Touch tanks with sharks and sea stars. Touchable bones and turtle shells. (My grandson liked the fish jawbones that could open and close.) Air conditioning. Shade. Some much-needed seating and a water fountain and water bottle filler, the only one on the Santa Monica pier as near as I could tell. Nice staff and volunteers. On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, my wife and I set out on a trip to take her 2-1/2-year old granddaughter to the HEAL THE BAY AQUARIUM in Santa Monica. This was while the aquarium was still open from Wednesday thru Sunday. Earlier that morning, we had checked the aquarium’s website to see whether there were any special events, and we learned that the aquarium had been closed for the day on Friday, October 10.
The drive took more than an hour, but we finally arrived in Santa Monica, and the little girl was brimming with excitement and anticipation as we approached the entrance. Imagine my horror, disappointment and barely controlled anger when we saw a sign at the entrance informing us that the aquarium would be CLOSED that day! Before exploding in rage, I revisited the aquarium’s website, where the only announced closure remained the closure on October 10, the one we had noted earlier that day.
As my anger was about to boil over, I called the aquarium's number. To my surprise, a kind voice answered to ask how she could help. I said that 3 of us had embarked on the first leg of a three-hour roundtrip to visit the aquarium and that we had been shocked to encounter a CLOSED sign at the entrance. I stressed that we had gone online before starting our odyssey and that we had seen nothing to lead us to believe that the facility would be closed.
The kind voice hardly impressed me when it apologized and offered to conduct a guided tour of the facility. Assuming that it simply wanted to send us away with the empty promise of some future tour, I sarcastically asked when this tour was to take place. Then, the kind voice absolutely floored me when it replied that the tour could take place then and there.
Two or three minutes later, the owner of that kind voice showed up at the front door, and let the 3 of us in. The owner of that voice was MICAH, a wonderful young woman, who again apologized for the unannounced closure. She said that circumstances beyond the aquarium’s control had forced it to close without any warning. She showed us around, and while remaining courteous and professional, was absolutely stupendous with my wife’s little granddaughter!
MICAH encountered a disastrous situation that was not of her making, and she turned it into a wonderful experience for 3 customers (including an enchanted little girl) who will not forget how professionalism and genuine kindness saved the day. MICAH got LEMONS, and she made CHAMPAGNE!
Congratulations to the individual who hired MICAH. Good luck holding on to her because she is destined for greatness!

I had been putting off my visit to Heal the Bay Aquarium for too long. The summer visit I made to the Monterey Bay Aquarium turned out to be completely different from my experience at the Santa Monica location. The sea otter trainers at Heal the Bay Aquarium allowed their playful sea otter to splash me during a high-five like interaction.
The staff members at the aquarium spread their positive energy to me while one of them helped me locate a shy clownfish during my peaceful iced latte time. The aquarium's smaller size created a sense of closeness which left me feeling happy when I returned to the Eastside.

I've wanted to visit this Museum for month's now, but was always busy with other things that always came up. The day's that the Museum is open are very strange, so this Thursday I decided to finally come.
Thursday is the first day of the week that this Museum is open. I got here as early as it was possible. Because the Metro takes over an hour to take me here. After arriving a little after 3 in the afternoon and experiencing some technical difficulties using walking directions provided by Google Map's inside the library by the back entrance because the main entrance on 6th and Santa Monica was locked.

I came to understand and realise that the Museum is closed without notice or any type of notification on Google Map's or any explanation from anyone at the Santa Monica library as to why it's closed but should be open this Thursday.
I'd like to notify anyone that is interested in visiting this Museum that they close without notice and it be a great waste of time to travel all this way. Just like visit all of the tiny beach City of Santa Monica.

We had a great time at a birthday party at the Cayton Children’s Museum! This place is full of fun, hands-on exhibits and creative play areas that kept the kids entertained for hours on end. There’s enough to see and do, and everything is designed to be both engaging and educational!
It’s super convenient, located right inside a shopping center, so there’s plenty of safe parking, plus restaurants and shops nearby to continue your day of fun.
The staff were great, so patient and helpful! They went out of their way to help us find my daughter’s phone after she accidentally left it in the bathroom. Talk about great service!

I didn’t make a reservation and waited an hour to enter. Next time I’ll make a reservation or go on a day that’s not a federal holiday.
They have a bag check for security and you walk through a metal detector, a quick and easy process that makes you feel secured.
Your stamp on the hand is good until the end of the day when they close at 5 so you can leave and come back in.
There’s something for everyone. My toddler loved building out train tracks, crawling through the ceiling nets and jumping into the ball pit. I am excited to take him back as he grows and becomes more interested in other offerings such as their art classes.

I was set to give up on finding a halfway decent children’s museum in SoCal, but this place has easily exceeded all my expectations. It is small but full of a great variety of engaging exhibits for your children. Our favorite was the art studio with minimal tools provided to get those creative gears turning. When we walked in we thought the kids might get bored because of how small it is compared to other museums, but even our ADHD kid played for a couple hours and kept himself entertained. A very niche and eccentric museum. I recommend at least 2 hours before closing so you can see everything and get the tea/biscuits in the courtyard. This museum is awesome. It sort of focuses on frontier technology and science from the point of view of the past. For example, a section on old wives tails about medicine such as eating ant eggs to cure love, a section on the mathematics of Islamic architecture, a section on someone who theorized about how to build a space colony in the 1800s.

You have to reserve a time slot. I recommend this museum 1000%. I learned so much more about the holocaust and even got to hear a survivor speak around 1pm. It is a great way to learn history and really put yourself in the shoes of the Jews who suffered. There is a wall of clothes that represents the 1.5 million children who died. My friend and I visited after we discovered we had both gone in middle school. It had been 15 years since then and of course we expected things to be different…. But it was too different and quite frankly a bit boring. We didn’t go with a group, and perhaps that’s where we went wrong. With no tour guide, we were just walking around reading all of the exhibits. Every exhibit just seems to be a series of tv screens displaying images and information. It gave all the right information without invoking any real emotion. With the way things are right now [in our country], I feel these exhibits are cold. Visitors need a more tangible experience.

On April 27, 2025, I attended Ellis Hall’s “Ambassador of Soul” concert at The BroadStage in Santa Monica. What should have been an evening celebrating Black musical heritage instead exposed a much older problem: venues eager to profit from Black culture while quietly marginalizing Black and Brown patrons.
I have lived directly across the street from The BroadStage for 15 years. I know this community well. I attended expecting to be welcomed as a neighbor. Instead, while speaking in a normal conversational tone — fully consistent with the ambient noise of the venue — my Latino friend and I (I am Black) were approached by a white staff member and told to “keep it down.” Meanwhile, white guests around us spoke, laughed, and moved freely without interruption. The selective enforcement was unmistakable.
This was not a lecture, a poetry reading, or a classical recital demanding silence. It was a soul concert — a genre born of vitality, connection, and human expression. Yet somehow, our presence, no louder than the room itself, was treated as a disturbance needing management.
The BroadStage advertises itself as inclusive. What unfolded made it clear that inclusion here is conditional. Black artistry is welcome on the stage; Black and Brown guests, it seems, are tolerated only if they remain silent and invisible.
The BroadStage may excel at optics. It fails at respect. For anyone who values cultural integrity — or who simply expects to be treated with basic dignity — there are better places to invest your time and trust. The surface here is polished, but what lies underneath is not.

I had the pleasure of attending KCRW's Left, Right and Center at The Broad Stage. The place is beautifully designed inside and out and overall feels as classy as the name it boasts. The theater is super comfortable and feels intimate even sitting in the balcony. Honestly, the whole experience was outstanding and I look forward to visiting again soon. The most beautiful urban park I have seen in Los Angeles.
It’s not that big and it’s not that small. As I entered the park I noticed brightly colored structures that looked like sculptures. It wasn’t until I could make out that certain parts of the structures resembled things you’d see in a playground that I found out that indeed these structures were part of a playground. So, I think it’s incredibly cool that a playground could ever look like art. There are climbing gyms, rock climbing thingies, slides and more.
The park has many paved paths and the vegetation and trees are harmonious with these paths. The park isn’t flat which makes it very interesting. There’s an amphitheater area.
There are restrooms. I got a kick out of the fact that the gender silhouettes of the men’s and women’s sides aren’t the usual stick figure ones but rather more realistic silhouettes with interesting poses. I mean, you wonder why they made them so loose and free. They’re pretty random. Kind of weird. lol. There’s actually a park security attendant stationed by the restrooms.
That there’s a security person on the grounds will give you an idea that the overall safety in the park can be dubious. There are also a few of these security personnel throughout the park. It’s a sad reminder that our society has gotten to the point where manifestations of socioeconomic injustices are present in a place designed for children and recreation. I didn’t see any children of course but it was a drizzly day.
The park is named after the indigenous people that inhabited our immediate region. On one hand it’s good they are recognized, but you have to wonder what they feel about it and if they were consulted.
This park definitely is a place to reflect on past, present and ongoing reminders that things of beauty cannot cover up the dark side of humanity. However, parks are places where nature is allowed to resist the concrete world around it and its defiance pays tribute to the cultures that preceded us which were better caretakers of the world around us.

Great Family Park with a Few Urban Challenges
We recently spent a few hours at Tongva Park located at 1615 Ocean Ave, Santa Monica, CA, and overall, it’s a beautiful space that offers a lot—especially for families.
Fun for Kids
The playground and splash pad are fantastic for younger children. There are climbing areas, gentle water features, and unique structures that spark imagination. Kids absolutely loved it. It’s clean, modern, and built with safety and fun in mind.
Peace for Parents
Parents will appreciate the peaceful walking paths, plenty of shaded seating, and gorgeous landscaping. There’s even ocean views from some parts of the park, and the gardens are filled with native plants and artful design. It’s a lovely place to sit back while the kids play.
Perfect Picnic Spot
There are grassy lawns, picnic tables, and public restrooms available, making it great for a family snack or relaxed afternoon under the trees.

Like many public areas in Santa Monica, Tongva Park does have a visible homeless presence. As a local Los Angeles wedding photographer, I highly recommend Tongva Park for wedding couple portraits or any photo session. The park offers so many beautiful spots, and with an experienced photographer, you can really take advantage of the variety of settings it provides. There are stunning terraces, areas with beautiful flowers, and exotic plants that make for unique and vibrant backdrops. The design of the park itself gives you a lot of options for different looks, whether you want something lush and green or more modern with clean lines.
The only downside to shooting at Tongva Park (That is the reason bc I am leaving 3 stars) is that, like many public spaces in the area, there are sometimes homeless people around. While it’s not always a problem, it’s something to be aware of during your session. That being said, the park is still a beautiful and inspiring place for photos, and overall, it’s a great spot to capture some beautifull moments.

The current exhibitions are all photography. The LA Fires is very moving. The Day in the Life of David Bowie is also good. The National Geographic was exciting.
The museum is fresh & clean. The staff are all welcoming & helpful. I will go back when they have a new exhibition. Truly a great way to spend an afternoon.

Definitely worth it! If you like taking pictures. I saw an add on google.. thinking the photos just look 3D.. but you download an app, which makes each section come to live/animated. Once we found this out, it definitely changed my mind about the museum over all.. very funny & clever! And a low price/fun activity to do while in Santa Monica. I had at an amazing time at the 3DAR Trick Art Museum! Where else can you swim with dolphins and fight off zombies within minutes? I am always looking for creative content for my social media accounts and this museum def hit the spot. Added bonus: its location is amazing! Right on the 3rd street promenade in Santa Monica. Surrounded by shops and restaurants and the world famous Santa Monica Pier nearby. The blend of augmented reality and the fabulous 3D artwork makes this place totally worth it. It’s great fun to do with the family or cool to do with just friends and there is a parking garage nearby. Also, the staff is amazing - everyone was so helpful and nice.

This interactive 3D art museum was so much fun with over 30+ exhibits - perfect for all age groups and a great way to kill time and take awesome photos! You will need to download an app in order to see the 3D art animation. This allows you to take videos and or pictures through the app which is directly linked to your camera roll. A on-site host will guide you along the process and of course even help you take photos if decide to go solo. My group had a blast here and I highly recommend this as your next quick adventure.
PS: You are required to have your mask on at all times. Only when you're taking a photo/video, you can quickly remove it. Masks must be immediately placed back on as you walk throughout the interactive artwork!

It was a really nice experience. My kids love it. You need to download an app that they recommend so you can be able to take pictures and you can see it so alive! There is many different themes that every one in the family will love the experience! Mask is required to enter. But you can take it off while inside taking amazing colorful pics. You will love the friendly staff who are willing to take pictures for you or help you pose for epic Instaworthy moments. The whole family will love this experience. The museum is very spacious and the installation are spaced apart - physically distancing from other guests. However, there was only two other people at the museum when we visited so it’s not packed by any means. I noticed the clean the areas right after visits. Basically, they take precautions to be safe.
