It has a calm and relaxed ambience about it. Gators do roam around but they're not usually in your path. Oftentimes, they're swimming on their own, which is fun to watch. There are many different paths to walk and a lot of birds and other animals to see. It can get hot, so bring liquids. Parking is kind of a nightmare. That is the one thing that makes the experience much more stressful, so get there early. Pets are not allowed here due to gators and other animals. I gave this a 5, despite the poor parking. I wasn't sure how else to rate it. They need more parking here. If I recall, there is an inside mini-museum you can check out at certain hours but most of the experience is outside on the trails with nature.

Now the place is absolutely cool looking for sure plenty of hiking trails that are very well maintained and definitely what's the word photogenic or something now I could probably easily rate it 5 stars but man we were so disappointed when we went , we saw pretty much nothing as far as wildlife, no gators, otters, bobcats which we figured we wouldn't see them due to the time of day but that being said it was pretty decently sunny and in the 80s so definitely figured we'd at least see some alligators and before going when we seen reviews on Google that it was a definite Hotspot to see them so as for that it was a let down. Like I said otherwise definitely a nice scenic place and I'm sure as far as the wildlife goes some days will be better than others .

There is zero separation between tee times because the clubhouse just wants your money. Unless you want to send 8+ hours to play just 9 holes I would go anywhere else. The amenities are extremely limited. For example they had only 3 lawn chairs with no umbrellas. They had only two rafts available for use and no safety vests for younger children. They have two diving boards which are great when they are available for use. On two visits they were closed because there was a wasp nest under one. The pool is well maintained but they leave in the ropes used for laps and competitions even during open swim time. So the kids swimming after constantly being nagged to stay away from the ropes which is ridiculous how about get them out of the water during open swim like every other pool. The price is much better than the other pools but if you need umbrellas, rafts, vests, drinks, you definitely have to bring them yourself.

Lots of beautiful wildlife to see throughout and even a bee keeping area near the cemetery. Did not realize (as an out of stater) that there is gator ally on the blue trail past the fishing area. We were 20 ft away from an 8 ft long gator before we scared him and he jumped into the water. This was not the only gator we saw. Don’t stand to close to the gator slide zones by the water’s edge if not experienced. Very friendly staff!! Grateful for the wise knowledge now that every puddle and body of water is gators here. It's so important to preserve Florida's scrub habitats. This Reserve is located on the Lakeland Highlands Ridge. A short trail winds through an oak hammock. The longer trail goes through the scrub habitat. There's also a boardwalk with a covered hut with benches that crosses a small pond/wetlands area. Some of the wildlife we have seen here includes the endangered Gopher Tortoise, rabbits, snakes (including a small coral snake), bull frogs, small gators in the pond, a bobcat, and 2 Great-Horned owls. There used to be a colony of endangered Florida Scrub Jays there, but sadly they are no longer there. Give yourself a couple hours at least to enjoy the longer trail. It is a minimally maintained Fl State Reserve, and kept as natural as possible. Dogs are welcome on a leash.
