I made the reservation online and asked if we could get the best seat of the house as we are celebrating his birthday. When we entered the restaurant we were warmly greeted by the lovely girl FOH. The texture of the fries was amazing, delicately crispy yet pillowy in the centre. The charred cabbage with burnt onion ranch was delicious and I almost scoffed it down before the steak. It also paired well with the rest of the dish. The pickled lions mane mushroom didn't feel necessary and could be ommitted. Green apple sorbet (highly recommend) This is the embodiement of an ideal palate cleanser. It achieves an almost candly like green apple flavour, with a refined hit of booze. Tarte au citron The tart itself was a delicious "tarte au citron" with a brulee top. However, the dish as a whole felt disjointed and unbalanced. The tart was sour and had a custardy texture....yet is balanced with sour poached rhubarb and creamy chantilly cream (i.e more of the same)? The meringue shards complemented the tart well but there wasnt nearly enough of it.

We had friends stay in Wanaka for 10 days of skiing and The Doughbin quickly became our family’s spot every morning at 7am without fail. Walking in to such a warm welcome first thing in the morning really set the tone for our day. For Wanaka (steak and mushroom was our favourite), the cream doughnuts were always freshly creamed and filled and danish apricot and almond croissants were delicious and still warm, and Coffee strong hot and good it was excellent and consistent and fast to be made they are quick here! We also saw all the locals builders and workers going in and they seemed to know them by name and what coffees they get was fantastic to watch very poetic. Can also recommend the bacon and egg muffins yum they would heat them us for us freshly made that morning. The Doughbin isn’t just a bakery it’s a classic Kiwi experience with top-notch food, great coffee, and the friendliest staff you’ll meet in town. We can’t wait to come back on our next ski trip.

After a brief discussion between our group of 5, we decided that Kamino would solve a lot of our problems! We had the three course chef special ($55) which was a salmon sushimi entrée, a NZ beef main, and a green apple sorbet dessert. The staff were friendly and easygoing and the ambience is warm and cosy. I spent a year in Japan so I had high expectation for the sushimi, and although the presentation was immaculate, the Milford Sound salmon didn't have the taste and texture of comparable dishes in Japan (it was farmed salmon, but if you don't know what that tastes like then you won't notice). What came out was a grilled bun, a slab of battered chicken, mayonnaise and pickle. That was it. I understand they don't want people with larger appetites to feel they have to go elsewhere to fill up, but when the average takeaway shop does better burgers than a high class restaurant you know there's something wrong. So go elsewhere for the burger, but enjoy the rest for the flavourful combinations.

They seem unbothered by this and dishes and drinks are flying out to the largely elderly crowd. Live plants adorn the walls and provide cover, while the soft floor and surfaces absorb noise. It smells like rich food inside which is nice. The golden lighting is fairly dialed in, no dark corners. A short, wine heavy menu has a few items of great interest to me, I enjoyed the local Otago Negroni and the Paua (abalone) croquettes; both quite memorable. The bathrooms are spotless, always a good sign. I walked here so can't speak to parking but it seems minimal. A slightly off putting acidic regional natural wine was swiftly swapped out and the brief app and drink adventure came to a pleasant end. This neighborhood hideaway has promise and certainly deserves 5 stars in the current climate. I would happily return to Treehouse again with a party to eat the menu. Check it out when in Wanaka and decide for yourself. I would recommend a party of no more than four. The tourists seem to have not discovered the peculiar delights of Treehouse just yet.

Previously went with a different menu and it was as amazing. Returned hoping for the same and the food was awful. Out of touch and trying too hard. The croquettes in particular were hard, clearly pre-made, and impacted flavors. They were overly fishy and the texture was completely off and raw in parts. We all had to smother the food in sauce to get through and felt unwell leaving. Wine and location are great so the food is a shame. Need to scale it back and make it more basic food. People don’t want this type of food. Go back to steaks, cheese, simple food. Bring back pork belly croquette.
