Front desk staff were gracious and helpful, and if you are transferring to a cruise, they have a highly organized system of getting your luggage directly to your state room, so you can enjoy your time in Seward without worrying about following your bags. We had booked a week-long accommodation with the Hotel Seward, a sister property to the Hotel Edgewater. Unfortunately, there were some issues with our understanding of the accommodations. We spoke with Management and they were extremely accommodating to our needs. Within minutes, Management listened to our needs, walked with us from one property to the other, provided reasonable options including refunding us completely or providing rooms at the Hotel Edgewater. They were able to provide us adjacent rooms for our Family making for a wonderful experience. The rooms were new and modern feeling, quiet and clean. The balconies were adjoining so we could look out at the views together. The Hotel provides great service and all the staff we interacted with were so kind and helpful. The shuttle helped us multiple times, and the front desk was always attentive to request and snack purchases. Ample options for breakfast were very welcome when it was raining and cool in the morning. The Lobby was warm and welcoming, and made for a great spot for a Family game night in front of the fireplace. The Hotel Edgewater is perfectly located in Seward within a short walk of the Alaska Sealife Center, numerous great dining options, parks, trails, shops, and so much more. We can't thank the Team at Hotel Edgewater enough for their efforts making our vacation a wonderful experience, and especially the Management team for taking personal interest in ensuring our satisfaction. We highly recommended any of their properties and Hotel Edgewater most. We will be back for sure!

The room was clean, the bathroom was functional, and the Wi-Fi worked well. The shared kitchen area has a mini fridge, microwave, mugs, paper towels, and dish soap to clean up. The room was exceptionally clean — spotless, with great attention to hygiene. Kayaking has always been a favorite excursion of ours whenever we travel and this trip was no exception. Our tour guides Drew and Maggie were fantastic and by kayaking it really allowed us to feel immersed in the beautiful Alaska scenery. Fox Island is a beautiful location that not many people get to visit so we felt special for having the opportunity to explore it's coasts. We saw harbor porpoise and even a puffin! Our only critique was the Resurrection Bay tour on the back half of the day. It was a bit too family friendly for the adventurous day we were looking to have. We would have much rather just have been brought straight back to Seward post kayaking, but not sure if that would be logistically possible. That said, they kayaking portion still made the whole day worth it.

He is SO nice and hard working, and did so much to make our stay in Shearwater cozy and FLAWLESS. He was so great at helping us get familiar with the sea kayaks, and gave great recommendations on where to fish and take our kayaks out. The property is stunning, and the perfect place to step away from it all and relax in comfort and peace. The amenities were far beyond what I could have imagined - HOT showers, cozy heating, everything you'd need in a kitchen, and games to keep us entertained. The hiking trails were also amazing to check out: views, tide pools, and the stunning creek that runs through the property. The wildlife we saw was also totally incredible: bald eagles, the resident sea otter, salmon runs, river otters, and sea lions. We stayed in both types of Yurts: Original and Premium during our time at Shearwater. We loved how cozy the Original yurts were, but enjoyed that the premium yurts could host larger groups of people (and the awesome covered patios). All of it was incredible, but without a doubt getting to chat with Cooper made the experience above and beyond. We hope to be back, and will definitely recommend a stay at Shearwater Cove to anyone and everyone!

From the moment we arrived at the dock in Seward, we were welcomed by Rachel (our boat captain) with a warm and welcoming smile. She was so enthusiastic about Seward and Shearwater Cove, and was great with our 8 year old daughter, stopping along the way to show her the otters floating on the surface of the water. Once we arrived at Shearwater, Cooper our host, was waiting for us to make sure we got settled in and had everything we needed. We stayed in a premium yurt (black bear) for 2 nights, and it was perfect for our family of 3. The views were absolutely breathtaking from our covered porch. In front of us was the ocean, surrounded by snow capped mountains, behind us, a small waterfall providing the perfect “soundtrack” to our stay. The yurt itself was wonderful, tasteful and simple, with all the amenities you could ever need. The beds were also incredibly comfortable, and listening to the pitter patter of rain on the roof was the perfect way to fall asleep at night. Not only are the views incredibly, but you’re surrounded by so many amazing opportunities to explore nature. We hiked the trails on the property and did a guided kayak tour with Cooper the night we arrived. He took us along the shore, out to a waterfall, providing information and spotting wildlife as we went. I can’t thank Cooper enough for this experience, not only was it magical because of the location, but our 8 year old had been very nervous, not wanting to go kayaking, but after this experience with Cooper, it instantly became her favorite part of our 2 week trip in Alaska. She know says she hopes to work at Shearwater when she’s older. The next morning, after enjoying coffee and pancakes on the deck, we kayaked out to Fox Island, an uninhabited beach, where we spent the afternoon exploring, skipping rocks and eating lunch. I can’t say enough about how amazing Shearwater Cove is, between the beauty, impressive engineering and people, it was truly the best part of our trip and I hope to find my way back there someday.

He gave us a wonderful guided kayaking trip around Shearwater and Humpy Coves and to the hidden waterfall. He taught us about the local ecosystem and wildlife, and ensured we were comfortable in our kayaks before embarking on our trip. Cooper spent time getting to know each of us even during his off hours and went out of his way to move all our belongings from a standard yurt to a premium yurt halfway through our trip. We were a bit concerned when we pulled into the parking lot but very surprised and pleased when we opened the door to our unit. It was very clean and has been updated recently. Great place to stay right on the main road, within easy walking distance of downtown Seward and all the shops and restaurants there.

I also felt the service on my day of checkout was a little lackluster. I texted to ask if the best way to get to the cruise ships was to go to stop 9 on the free shuttle route. The response I got was that the free shuttle runs every half hour. Ok yes but that doesn’t answer my question. At any rate, I took my bags to the stop and waited as 3 shuttles came by with no capacity because they were full. I could not find anyone on Uber or Lyft, and none of the taxi companies were answering when I called. I texted Trailhead again asking whether there were any other options. I got a response back that I could check Uber or Lyft. I ended up walking the entire mile plus with my backpack and two suitcases to the cruise ship. Unfortunately, the shower barely functioned and did not have hot water. Plus, the main shower faucet leaked loudly all night. She burtsed out of her room - barely presentable - to yell at us while we were trying to get a group photo. We are extremely uncomfortable to even go back there but unfortunately we have to at least for tonight. Hopefully we will get a refund for tomorrow night. I would NEVER recommend anyone stay here unless you are a hermit or a mute. We are extremely disappointed with how she chose to handle that situation instead of speaking to us like customers. Again we were never given a warning or even the courtesy of a knock on our door to inform us that anyone was bothered or that anyone had complained. Cute rooms and good location though.

FYI makes a loud noise upon opening it. The walls and doors are PAPER thin with very large gaps. We can see a two inch gap underneath the entry to our suite. It is NOT a good choice for young kids or couples looking for some “adult” time. Everyone can hear you. One tv remote didn’t have batteries. No cable. The “kids bed” is inside of a closet NOT a converted closet. It’s literally a closet someone stuffed a bed inside of. And the bed is broken. Toys are available, but just random junk that didn’t go with the play kitchen which left my kids bored. So it was miserable trying to keep our kids quiet all night. Old vintage radiators are hot and exposed. Zero safety or childproofing. We spent all night trying to keep our kids from touching all 4 of them. Missing fire alarms in 2 spots and areas that aren’t up to fire safety code. In the bedroom, One of the lamp shades is all busted up inside of it and the lamp doesn’t turn on. The mattress is cheap, old, and miserable so every time we rolled over the bed shook like we were in an earthquake. The pillows are flat. Woke up with our necks hurting. And NONE of the doors to the bedroom lock or close properly. All night they kept opening and banging into the wall waking us up so we’d have to get up and close them again. No fan in the bathroom and mildewed tape on the window. Super thin toilet paper. No curtains or shade on the window, disgusting mat inside the tub, and filth at the bottom of the toilet. And door lock is horrible. We had to tell our kids not to lock the door so they didn’t get stuck inside. Kitchen felt dirty. We kept finding dirty dishes. The outside of the fridge has something nasty all over it and makes a LOUD sound when it comes on. ZERO ice maker even though it’s supposed to have one. The oven/stove gross. Floor sticky. There are two doors in the kitchen. One is locked shut but super gross at the bottom of it. The other door opened out into the hallway and had absolutely no weather stripping. zero privacy. We noticed under the radiators the floor is filthy, we saw trash, and underneath one was literally d-con RAT POISON. Not only is that dangerous for kids, it shows they have a clear issue with rodent control and are being cheap about it rather than paying a professional. Our night was filled with having to listen to every person outside our door, every footstep inside our suite, the fridge, the doors that wouldn’t stay shut, the doors you have to give a shove to to open, everything echoing, the creaking bed, our neighboring guests kept knocking on OUR door blaming us for noises we literally couldn’t help. THAT made me angry. FYI despite advertising this is NOT a Bed & Breakfast, the kitchen was NOT fully equipment, the appliances are NOT up to date or even relatively new, NO sample oil packets, NO new toiletries, there was no claw foot tub, NO free gym access, and there were no nice views from any of the windows just closed up tops of buildings cause the windows were iced over. We looked at an alley with cars and rooftops so our curtains were closed the entire time. You could not open the windows as there were no screens, we'll one but it had a hole in it.
