Nothing but pretentious!
It appears that the owner or mind behind the restaurant’s direction is deeply influenced by St Tropez; however, Port Verd is no St Tropez.
Having critiqued restaurants for a living for 3 decades, I am obliged to comment on this one because of the mediocre experience.
Also having read the bad reviews, it was clear that many guests had experienced the same level of service and food that didn’t meet expectations or the claims the restaurant makes on its website
First, I chose an early dinner because I wanted an amazing experience since I specifically booked for a special birthday. It was also our 10th year anniversary but I didn’t want to make it over the top, but for us, it was a big deal. So a table with a view was my only request.
We were immediately placed at the end corner with the naughty kids. Literally. We were surrounded by table with young kids, all on their phones and tablets, most taking over the « romantic view », a bit too loud too.
Parents with torn short and flip flops felt like I booked the wrong place.
Two ladies behind us asked to be moved mid-dinner to a table right at the edge which was just vacated. By the time we finished our mains, there were exactly 12 tables empty. I requested to move to a table closer to the edge and I was told in a very nonchalant tone that the restaurant is fully booked and it’s impossible for them to accommodate my request. By the time we left 4 tables which had been emptied by guests, had never been cleared, left abandoned for over an hour or two.
Now, the food. The garlic prawns were nicely cooked, swimming in oil with quite a nice amount of sliced garlic. I ordered the squid thinking that it would be nicely grilled as so common in most beach restaurants (there is minimal explanation of dishes on the menu, which you must access from your phone!!!). It arrived battered and deep fried, it had no flavour at all. I used the leftover so-called aioli (direct from the tub, with a faint flavour of garlic) from the « bread cover ».The octopus salad was a mixture of crushed potatoes some cooked, some less, again tossed in mayonnaise and covered by smoked paprika. There were a total of 4 octopus slices, which all fit nicely in a single tablespoon.
The John Dory also arrived deep fried with deep fried onion rings and four tiny dollops of parsley purée.
The chateaubriand for two is a joke. Period!
€8 for 6 baby potatoes is a bit pushing since seasoning was also absent.
The desserts were okay, the cheesecake was melting nicely (not sure if it was set at all), while the lemon pie had less than a teaspoon of curd topped with a huge dome of Italian meringue. Overly sweet, so having the curd covering the whole crust would have been very welcomed, the curd was only piped on the edges of the crust. The middle was just meringue and shortcrust.
The organic rosé was very nice.
What disappointed me the most is that after having requested to move table, the service changed from passable to mediocre. For Sa Punta, tonight wasn’t anything to be proud of.
For some reason the waiter dropped the dessert in front of me like I was someone he knew and probably didn’t like.
The disconnect between the expectations and actual service looking at the final bill is not an evening I want to repeat. It is an overpriced, over pretentious beach restaurant with nothing to justify its price, not even the tap water charged at 6€ the bottle. I wasn’t bottled water! It arrived without cap or lid and the taste of chlorine was far too overpowering.
The service left a lot to be desired. Expecting way more. I was shocked to be served the next dish in less that 6 minutes. The waiters rush you around, perhaps in a way to get you quickly out… unacceptable.
And about the birthday… well, it’s like the atmosphere! Inexistant! For the staff it was just another Tuesday.
Zero attention to detail, overall poor quality food prepared without love or passion; it’s very sad.
