Castle
Sights & Landmarks
In Forli, the Rocca di Ravaldino stands out as a significant historical architectural gem. This 14th-century fortress served as a defensive complex for the city and underwent expansions in the 15th century. Surrounded by lush greenery and adjacent to the city prison, this photogenic castle features four round towers and connecting crenulated walls. Over time, it has undergone various changes, including reconstruction and reinforcement with the addition of two ravelins during the 15th century.
A small fortress that you can visit for free at the moment on Saturday and Sunday. One of the staff will accompany you through main areas and give a brief introduction in Italian or English about the history and rennovation efforts. Personally I found the visit very nice, and the staff was friendly and helpful.
Thu T — Google review
Newly opened and you can see it's still being set up as a museum/place to visit. Entrance is free but with mandatory guide, in English as well if you want. You get a tour of the grounds and a short history of it, but entire thing is very bare bones. Hopefully in the future it will improve. I was hoping to learn more about Caterina Sforza herself, but not much is told about her. There is no literature about the hsitory at the site, but you can get a bit of it at Tourist Center in town. I can't blame the staff for it, they try but museum itself still needs quite a bit of work. Worth a visit if you are in Forli, but don't expect too much and if this is your primary point of itnerest you'll be disapointed
Luka N — Google review
Interesting building to see. Unfortunately it was closed at our visit. Nevertheless we weren't disappointed.
Mihael Š — Google review
Now open for visitors - The Rocca opened mid April 2024 for the first time in generations, you can visit the grounds and take a short tour of the castle on Saturday and Sunday for free.

A beautiful, tremendous castle, yet turned into a prison... Such a disgrace!

But there are very kind guides who tell you the history of the fortress and of Caterina Sforza, who lived there. (Original) Bellissima rocca. Riaperta nel 2024 e con alcune ale ancora da aprire. Ma ci sono delle guide gentilissime e ti raccontano la storia della rocca e di Caterina Sforza che vi aveva abitato.

(Translated by Google) I didn't know it existed; we took a trip to Forlì and visited it. It's not very big, but it's very pretty, and like all fortresses, it has a history tied to Caterina Sforza. Free admission. (Original) Non sapevo della sua esistenza, abbiamo fatto un giro a Forlì e l' abbiamo visitata. The Musei di San Domenico is a museum complex located in Forli, Italy, set within a medieval convent. The complex includes the deconsecrated church of San Giacomo Apostolo and two cloisters. After a period of neglect, extensive restoration efforts have transformed the space into a hub for art and culture. The Forli Civic Art Gallery is housed within the complex, showcasing an impressive collection of works by renowned artists such as Antonio Canova and Livio Agresti.
One of the most important Italian museum and the best experience I’ve ever had. Because of when I visited, I was fortunate enough to have the museum all to myself - which was surreal. Their permanent collection is beautiful, and the stories behind some of their pieces are extraordinary. Staff are all incredibly kind and knowledgeable, and not only great professionals, but amazing humans. I got to hear the origin story of the building, among many others which contributed to what it is today. The building although very old, is incredibly well kept, and the interior is a tasteful modern, which still does well to emphasise the authentic architectural identity of the museum. The place is squeaky clean all around, and overall just very calm and pleasant to be in. As always, there is a discount for students. After such a wonderful experience, I’m definitely looking forward to coming back in spring for their yearly special exhibition - which will host over three hundred paintings from the greatest artists of all time!
Teodora F — Google review
This museum is biggest in Italy and is one of the most captivating, interesting and with so much art diversity of pairings and sculptures. They also have Venus sclupture ,and many other beautiful sculptures such as Michelangelo. One of the best Art Museums for painting and sculptures in the world ,
Lucian O — Google review
This might be misleading as I haven't been inside the building. But I have been to the underground parking lot right underneath it — and there's a whole other art museum worth looking at. Found it by an accident, no regrets.
Kaens B — Google review
Lovely art museum, but be prepared that everything there is written in Italian language and nothing in English..
Felix H — Google review
They have the most thoughtful and interesting curation of large shows. We saw the auto-portraits and it was outstanding.
Laurie P — Google review
The Pre-Raphaelite exhibit was so very, very good! As an older person I wish that I had been able to visit the exhibit twice - too much for one visit. Also the informational signs should be bigger - hard to see and many people at one time trying to read them created a bit of a crowd. BUT SO WORTH SEEING!
Penny H — Google review
Wonderful museum with a very thoughtfully curated collection. Definitely worth visiting! Just have google translate on your phone to help with the descriptions.

Piazza Aurelio Saffi, located in Forli, Italy, holds a significant historical and cultural importance. It was the site of a fierce battle in 1282 between Ghibelline Forli soldiers and the French and Italian Guelph army. The fallen were buried in a common pit, commemorated by the Crocetta chapel. Today, Piazza Saffi is a vibrant hub of cultural and gastronomic experiences.
Piazza Aurelio Saffi is the main square of Forlì and a beautiful place to explore if you’re visiting the city. It’s spacious, surrounded by impressive historical buildings, and has a relaxed, local atmosphere. You’ll find a mix of medieval, Renaissance, and rationalist architecture, with highlights like the Abbey of San Mercuriale, the Town Hall, and the Aurelio Saffi statue in the center. It’s a great spot to walk around, grab a coffee, or just enjoy the view. On market days (usually Mondays and Fridays), it becomes even livelier with local stalls and vendors. There are also events throughout the year, especially during summer and Christmas. If you’re in Forlì, don’t miss a stop here — it’s a perfect mix of history, culture, and everyday life
Vincenzo P — Google review
The place is beautiful but looks little shabby because of the open market in the center. This place should have been kept more beautifully as this holds the history of Forli, Italy. It was difficult to take pictures as the flea market was coming in the center.
Kakoli R — Google review
Surely one of the most beautiful squares in Italy! Often underrated, it is worth a visit.

A beautiful square wonderfully decorated for Christmas. You can climb the tall tower of the Abbey of San Mercuriale (it was completed around 1181) and enjoy a stunning aerial view of Forli

Cute place where you can feel like a modern Cinderella with lots of rabbits, different species of big and medium-sized birds and with those little guys like the one from the picture. Good place to relax or to hung out with friends. As a tourist, I was surprised by the big number of rabbits, they are everywhere!🐰

Nestled within a beautifully restored farmhouse, Ristorante Il Fienile offers an authentic taste of the Emilia-Romagna region. Since opening its doors in 2010, this charming eatery has become a go-to spot for traditional Romagnola cuisine and delectable wood-oven pizzas. Guests rave about the outstanding seafood risotto and perfectly cooked steak with rosemary, complemented by oven-baked potatoes.
Excellent pasta for sure. The sea food pasta is highly recommended. The paeya is fantastic also. The place is not fancy nor aristocratic. The service can be improved. Our salad came when we finished the main course. There is huge area for parking outside of the restaurant. The owner is very kind and gentle.

Nestled on Via Ravegnana, Osteria l'Amorosa is a true gem that embodies the essence of traditional Romagnola cuisine. Known for its freshly made pasta, including tagliatelle, cappelletti, and strozzapreti crafted daily, this charming eatery pairs these delights with a rich meat ragu that locals rave about. The menu also features classic second courses like oven-roasted rabbit with potatoes, showcasing the heart of regional flavors.
I was born near here. I live abroad and this is the restaurant I miss the most. Best original homemade food. Thank you for keeping the tradition alive.
Emilio M — Google review
The location was recommended to me by the car dealership, as the best location with local food, I left the hotel on foot until there , but... - very inhospitable waitresses if you don't speak Italian. - ok, you don't have the menu written in English… but in the 21st century you have the menu written by hand and struggle to understand what it says…don't get me wrong… i know italian cuisine and i know the italian names of dishes ! - the meat in the steak is one of the cheapest, full of stinginess! - I love Panacota, but it was the worst I've ever eaten. + the Bruschetta was the best on the menu

This is a more recent appearance in the group of restaurants serving typical food from Romagna in and around Forlì. However, in just a matter of a few years, it has firmly placed itself as one of the must-go places for value for money, so much so that you need to go there in person in order to reserve a table for two weeks later... they won't answer your telephone call anyway. The food served is the classic array of typical dishes from the area, with pastas crowning the menu with their variety and types of sauces, as well as meat, especially from the grill. A recommended delicacy is roast rabbit.

Nestled in the charming heart of Forli, Trattoria Petito is a delightful culinary gem that captures the essence of authentic Italian cuisine. This cozy eatery, located on Via di Porta Cotogni and just a stone's throw from the university and Rocca di Ravaldino, offers a warm atmosphere perfect for enjoying classic regional dishes. With an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients, diners can indulge in traditional Romagnola flavors like rabbit porchetta and fresh Adriatic seafood.
One of the best meals we had while in Italy. It’s a fantastic concept and the restaurant used to hold a Michelin star. Everything from the bread to the pasta and the meat was great. The restaurant itself is also very beautiful.

Welcoming and warm staff. Very courteous. My tortellini was average taste and portion. Next time will try more. Desert was the traditional Italian one - Italian trifle. Would rate it ok. Portion size was good. Do try the pistachio desert. All menu in Italian so needs translation.

Great food, warm welcome, swift and smiling service. Don't miss the culatello de zibello!! Pasta with boar are awesome. So is the rabbit and the sea bass. Very good tortellini with pea pesto. House wine not bad at all and as usual coffee was great.

Wonderful restaurant! Amazing food and the service is outstanding! Both for lunch and dinner we enjoyed it so much! Authentic local products, including great whine.
Iris K — Google review
We came here for lunch because I found it on the internet. What a lovely location. The servers were friendly and professional. We had the Beef Tartare, Anchovies and Fried Zucchini Flowers to start. Never would have expected that the Anchovies would be so good. The Tartare was prepared differently to how we would eat it at home but all the ingredients are fresh and good quality so it was very delicious. We had two types of pasta the Gnochi and the Agnolotti. Our eyes were bigger than our bellies and luckily the Pasta came in a smaller plate (still a sizeable serving). We also had a Dangiovese wine paired with ihr meal. Our server recommended it and it was the perfect choice for such a meal and such a warm day. Highly recommend this location.

Nestled in the heart of Forli, Ambasciata di Puglia is a charming family-run restaurant that captures the essence of Apulian cuisine. With its warm and inviting atmosphere, guests are welcomed with open arms, even without prior reservations. The owner’s friendly demeanor and captivating stories add a personal touch to your dining experience.
It's the best looking restaurant in the whole of Forli. The coffee moka pot they serve was the best I've had so far during my stay in Forli(2weeks). Degustazione di formaggi (Cheese Tasting Plate-8 kinds of Cheese) is definitely something you should try. It's not rated or reviewed a lot as it's located in the part of Forli that's not close to the hotels but I must say this restaurant is one of the best in Forli.

(Translated by Google) The place is simple but welcoming, just like the owner, who carefully guides you through the delights of Puglia. The panzerotti are delicious, the creamy fava bean and chicory filling is superb, and the orecchiette are exquisite. It's a shame about the pasticciotto, which isn't up to par with the rest. Excellent value. (Original) Il locale è semplice ma accogliente, proprio com'è il proprietario, che ti accompagna con dovizia nel percorso alla scoperta delle delizie pugliesi. We had a Apulian aperitivo with an excellent platter of cured meats, cheeses, and excellent pickled vegetables. €10 per person, including wine and water, is extremely reasonable. Followed by orecchiette with spicy greens and anchovies, truly flavorful and spicy, and to finish, a warm and fluffy ricotta pie 🤤 Plus the moka pot of coffee 👍 (Original) Buona cucina, bel locale, ottimo oste, sicuramente consigliato se volete mangiare pugliese a Forlì e dintorni.

Pizzeria Trattoria La Marì d'Otello is a must-visit for pizza enthusiasts and craft beer lovers alike. This charming eatery focuses primarily on its pizza offerings, boasting a concise menu that highlights their dedication to quality. While the selection of starters and wines is limited, the cheese and meat platters served as appetizers are delightful.
Amazing place run by amazing people. I can truly recommend this place if someone wants to eat real "home made Italian pizza". Pizza is an absolute 10/10 and I have never eaten a better one.

This restaurant is famous for pizza and beer. The menu of this restaurant is small and contains almost only pizza. They also do not have too many starters. We had a cheese and a meat platter As starter. Both were delicious. They also do not have too much wine. But a lot of different craft beer. The pizzas were excellent. The colleagues who tried the desserts were very pleased. The waiters were friendly. Infortunately the Ambiente is not that good like the food.

Might have been a case, and I am sorry to give negative rates, but I stopped by here for dinner last night and I didn’t like the quality of food. I had “stinco di maiale” and e Brazilian desert. The “schiacciatina” was actually well made, and the dark “mata” bear as well. Perhaps I should have ordered a pizza then...
