Bansko

Bansko is a town at the foot of the Pirin Mountains, which are part of Pirin National Park, in southwest Bulgaria. It’s a gateway to numerous ski and snowboard slopes on Todorka Peak, including the challenging Tomba run. Footpaths cross the park’s craggy alpine landscape, home to bears and wolves. The park is also known for the high-altitude Vihren Peak, with forested ridges and striking glacial lakes.

Orthodox church
Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
Nestled in the heart of Bansko's old town, the Holy Trinity Church stands as a remarkable example of Bulgarian National Revival architecture. Constructed during Ottoman rule through community donations and voluntary labor, this Orthodox church boasts a Baroque-style interior that leaves visitors in awe. The church's exterior, dominated by its bell tower, is easily recognizable on Pirin Street. Once inside, visitors are treated to a stunning iconostasis and an array of beautiful frescoes adorning the walls.
Very interesting church, very colourfull paintings, Although It has a kind of old and dirty look, I guess It's the works going on, and the áreas blocked off.

Lovely old Church worth a visit if having a day off the slopes and walking down Pirin Street. Donation spots within the church and candles available to buy from the volunteers within

Dear pilgrims and seekers of spiritual solace, I implore you to set foot upon the sacred grounds of Bansko, where a resplendent church, adorned with a garden of sublime beauty, awaits your arrival. Prepare to be mesmerized by an experience that transcends the boundaries of the ordinary, as this extraordinary sanctuary beckons with a unique tapestry of colors, where the divine and the whimsical intertwine. As I stood before the church, my gaze was drawn to the magnificent garden that enveloped it like a vibrant embrace. Blooms of all varieties unfurled their petals in harmonious unity, swaying gently in the whispering winds, as if choreographed by the whimsical hands of SpongeBob himself. In this garden of tranquil respite, one can bask in the embrace of nature's gentle melodies, where time slows and the soul finds solace. But it is not merely the ethereal beauty of the garden that enthralls; the interior of this hallowed sanctuary holds treasures beyond measure. Prepare to step into a realm where colors dance upon the canvas of faith, where the mundane is transcended by the extraordinary. As I crossed the threshold, I was greeted by a sight so enchanting that it mirrored the vibrant hues of SpongeBob's pineapple home, concealed within the depths of Bikini Bottom. The pillars that adorned the church rose like stalwart sentinels, their intricate designs seemingly crafted by the masterful hands of Squidward's artistic finesse. Each stroke of color breathed life into the edifice, as if capturing the essence of divine inspiration. The ceiling, akin to a celestial kaleidoscope, unveiled a tapestry of celestial hues that echoed the very fabric of heaven itself. And then, as my eyes wandered, I beheld the paintings that adorned the sacred walls. Each stroke, each hue, seemed to sing the song of Bikini Bottom's most celebrated resident, SpongeBob SquarePants. Though veiled in the cloak of metaphor, the spirit of SpongeBob permeated the air, evoking a sense of childlike wonder and a reminder of the boundless joy that resides within us all. This church, dear travelers, is not your typical house of worship. It is a sanctuary that transcends the ordinary, inviting visitors to witness the divine through a lens of whimsy. It challenges the conventions of tradition, breathing life into the spiritual journey with an unexpected fusion of sacred and playful. It is an invitation to embrace the profound joy that springs forth when faith and imagination intertwine. In this garden of heavenly delight, where SpongeBob's spirit dances amidst the blooms, the soul finds solace, the heart finds solace, and the mind finds solace. It is an invitation to explore the sacred realms of Bansko, where the ordinary transforms into the extraordinary. So, dear pilgrims, surrender to the irresistible call of this extraordinary church, nestled within Bansko's embrace. Let the colors of the garden and the SpongeBob-inspired wonders of the interior guide your steps towards a spiritual experience like no other. Open your heart, open your mind, and embark upon a journey that will leave an indelible mark upon your very being. May the divine presence embrace you, and may the whimsical spirit of SpongeBob inspire you on this extraordinary pilgrimage to Bansko.

Neofit Rilski House-Museum is situated in a revival-era stone-and-wood building just a short walk from Sveta Troitsa Church at the heart of Bansko. It was once the residence of Neofit Rilski, an influential figure in Bulgarian Renaissance and education. The museum showcases traditional Bansko architecture across two floors and includes a former barn with a permanent exhibition dedicated to Neofit Rilski's legacy.

The inspirational story of a man who understood the value of education 200 years ago and dedicated his life to set up schools, write textbooks and teach in the local Bulgarian language (which was never done before). The house is also impressive, very thick stone walls which keep it very cool even on a hot summer day, and interesting period furniture and decoration.

Nestled in the heart of Bansko, the House Museum of Nikola Vaptsarov stands as a testament to the life and legacy of one of Bulgaria's most celebrated poets. Established in 1952 within the very walls where Vaptsarov lived with his family after 1912, this museum offers visitors an intimate look at his creative process. It was here that he penned some of his most beloved works, making it a significant cultural landmark.
Great museum that is keeping the spirit of Nikola Vaptsarov alive. When in Bansko it is a must to visit the museum of one of the greatest poets of Bulgaria. Amazing exhibition!

Museum of the great Bulgarian poet ,murdered by the fascist regime that ruled Bulgaria during WW2. An interesting, but rather sad exposition. Great nonetheless. 5 leva ticket required for entry.

I didn’t think it lived up to expectations. I share the previous comment about once you go in as a tourist, you are basically going to go out with 5% knowledge about him. Light is low, another wasn’t working(the entire part with the mountain in the entrance). It is 10lv, for a family of three, it takes about 15 mins to go in and out.

Radonova House, Historical and Ethnographic Museum is a must-visit for history enthusiasts in Bansko. This museum, housed in a 19th-century building, showcases the development of Bansko through archaeological findings like ceramics, jewelry, coins, and glasses. The friendly staff provides comprehensive information about Bulgarian folklore and history. Visitors appreciate the well-preserved historical site and the warm hospitality of the guides.
The lady in the house was very kind and provided us with a lot of information. The exhibition in the museum is important for the Bulgarian folklore and history. Definitely recommend.

(Translated by Google) The museum has a rich display of artifacts from the ancient history of the area. The information and pictures are also very interesting. The ethnographic part also deserves attention - traditional costumes, household items and again photos and data about the history of Bansko. No less exciting is the department dedicated to recent history, liberation struggles and the development of culture. Be sure to visit. It takes more than one visit to see and make sense of it all. Everything is described in Bulgarian and English. The curator of the museum is very kind and will gladly tell you the most important things.

Coworking space
Coworking Bansko is a popular hub for digital nomads in Bansko, founded by friends Mathias and Uwe. The space prioritizes building a strong community through daily social events, creating a friendly and supportive environment for remote workers. It offers two distinct spaces - one for casual work and socializing, and another quiet area for focused work. Members organize various events such as board game nights, barbecues, hot spring visits, and hiking trips to foster connections among coworkers.
The community aspect of Coworking Bansko is its strength. The connections you make with fellow digital nomads, expats and entrepreneurs is invaluable. Be a part of something that's better with you, than without!
David M — Google review
Coworking Bansko was the place that first introduced us to the nomad community back in 2022, and we’re genuinely grateful for that. However, after the ownership change in 2023, things seem to have gone downhill. We had a very disappointing experience during the winter of 2024/25. My partner and I purchased two memberships in December 2024 for 199€ each but never received access, so we ended up switching to a different coworking space in town. Despite promising a refund, they stopped responding entirely. Then, three months later, they charged us again 2×199€ for the same “subscription” we never used. That’s 796€ in total. In the end, they refunded only one of the four charges. We had to involve our bank to recover the rest, which thankfully worked after a few months via chargeback. What used to be a great community hub now feels like a scamming operation. It’s sad to see the decline! If you’re looking for a coworking space in Bansko, we recommend Altspace or Nestwork. We tried both. They had flawless communication and a much more professional experience.
Lukas K — Google review
This place advertised as a co-working is hugely inaccurate. It's heavily child-friendly to the point of having no quiet communal place to actually work (as advertised). The pool is a kiddy pool only, you can see toys, plastic garbage scattered around the only outdoor area. Strollers, bikes didn't leave the lobby for two days straight. Kids slamming the piano, riding a scooted in the corridors and lobby bumping into guests, throwing tantrums. The "co-working" area were a few desks, again in the lobby, so you can hear kids screaming or a few tables in the basement restaurant. If you think you can have fresh air and work remotely here you'll be quite disappointed. Staff tried to be pleasant but did nothing to correct the situation. I'm giving you 2 stars because the food was ok.
Ivelina K — Google review
Co-working Bansko is the best co-working space I've been so far. Great community and many events made by members, who like to share there profession or passion. Other events are to get to know each other and just having a great time together like boardgames night, BBQ, hotsprings or hiking events. Besides the community and events there are two spaces. One social for working easy and chat with other and a quiet space for work focused. Great chairs, desks and always helpful founder of the place! Matthias for example helped me by printing a special mount for my camera in his 3D printer. Uwe starts every week a Mastermind session to strongen the accountability. In sum: a great place you should experience on your own! I'm

Sadly, I can only agree with what I can see other persons have previously said here. The service from the reception staff is not only non-existing but even rude. Especially from the elder man employed there; I too got a "I have no time for this" when asking a normal question. It is sad to see the huge decline since the change in ownership. It is very clear that the staff has been recruited at the very lowest level. This is not the kind of vibe you expect to encounter among international digital nomads. Also, it is no longer a coworking/coliving space, it is a hotel with normal tourists, families, etc. staying there a few nights. Also, very overpriced compared to the service you get and the standard of the rooms.
Maria — Google review
Incredible bad and non-existing service! Trying to reach anybody since 2 months by email through a Co-Working partnership of one business network of me. Today I've tried to call, write a Whatsapp and in the end I've been at the reception to finally speak to a person: without any success, because the receptionist "isn't in charge for the Co-Working". Definitely not an environment I recommend to work from!

Best digital nomads community I've ever been part of - cool people, great organisation, plenty of events, networking, fun activities almost every day. I keep coming back and back ☺️

The House is a popular restaurant in Bansko, known for its beautiful exterior and diverse menu. Visitors can enjoy scrumptious avocado and burrata salads, slow-cooked lamb, gigantic T-bone steaks, and seafood pastas. The friendly waitstaff and delicious house wine add to the overall dining experience. Additionally, the prices are mentioned to be reasonable compared to other countries.
Fantastic place in bansko for meat and a variety of dishes. I loved the ribs and the t-bone steak. The staff is kind and helpful, always being gentle. The location is cozy and comfortable. Great value for money in Bansko.

We came as a group of 14 people for lunch. The restaurant wasn’t full, and we immediately got a table in the shaded, beautiful courtyard. We had a very professional waiter who gave us service beyond expectations and of course responded to all our requests. The menu is very diverse, offering meats, pastas, salads, desserts, and drinks. Judging by the quality of the dishes, the ingredients are super fresh and of excellent quality. There’s plenty of parking available in the area. We all really enjoyed ourselves, and every dish was finished! So delicious and highly recommended. The prices are fair considering the restaurant’s location. Highly recommended!

We were surprised when we ordered a salad and 2 mains that they came all together less than 5 min after we ordered. The salad was pretty good but the dish I ordered (curry chicken with turmeric risotto) wasn't great. The chicken was completely lacking in flavor and salt. The risotto was pretty good but the protein should be good on its own. Also based on how fast it came out it was obviously pre-cooked. Service wasn't that good either.
Simona K — Google review
For my last evening in Bansko, I decided to enjoy a dinner meal here in "The House", because it was the nearest located restaurant next to my guest house - and it was definitely a worthy ending to these days here in this beautiful city. The risotto with black rice, vegetables and parmesan was extraordinary delicious, together with a cheese-scallopped bread and a little beer a genuine dream of a dinner meal. And all this came together with a cozy and welcoming blockhouse atmosphere and an excellent price. Amazing!

⭐️ Our Perfect Dinner at "The House" in Bansko! ⭐️ "The House" in Bansko is, quite simply, the most perfect restaurant we've ever visited! We came as a family (two adults and two children) and were absolutely blown away by the quality of the food, the service, and the wonderful atmosphere. We ordered a variety of dishes: steaks, ribs, spaghetti, and several delicious salads for appetizers. Every single dish was flawless—truly exquisite and prepared to perfection. Not only was the food superb, but the portions were huge, and everything was served beautifully and incredibly fast. The service was excellent—attentive, friendly, and efficient—making the whole dining experience delightful. If you are in Bansko, do yourself a favor and eat at "The House." They deserve every possible accolade!

If you're seeking a European-style breakfast, look no further—Le Petit Nicolas serves some of the finest sweet and savory snacks around.
The sandwiches here are incredible! They offer a variety of unique options, including vegan, vegetarian, and different types of meats. My personal favorite is the chicken and egg with curry (I can't remember the name, but it's the first one on the menu). The service is friendly, too. If you come during lunchtime, be patient—they put a lot of love into making these sandwiches.

I think this might be the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten! My boyfriend and I stopped here on a whim and decided to grab a bite to eat. As vegetarians, it’s often difficult to find food beyond the usual pizza and pasta, but the owner was incredibly helpful and offered us a variety of options to accommodate our dietary needs. The place itself is lovely, Nikolas is incredibly friendly, and the service is top-tier. To top it off, we even got an almond croissant! Definitely worth the stop!

Smokey Mountain Bar & Grill, run by Scottish hosts Scott and Keira, offers a unique dining experience with a selection of delicious burgers, fries, and ribs. The pulled pork burger and chicken wings are highly recommended. Despite its British influence, the restaurant attracts patrons from various nationalities. Located halfway up Pirin Street in Bulgaria, it's known for its live music apres ski sessions from 4pm till 6pm and from 9pm.
Amazing food, best burger I have ever tasted. The ribs were to die for and the cocktails absolutely spot on. If you are in Bansko 100% you need to visit this restaurant. I nearly forgot the buffalo wings just wow.

Highlight of our culinary week. Outstanding food. Do book food ahead as slow BBQ meals need 6+ hours cooking time. Massive sharing platter served 3. Super cocktails with good amount of alcohol and reasonable prices.
Dawn L — Google review
I can't recall exactly how many times we've visited Smokey's over the last 5 years, but I know in whichever group we come to Bansko it's a staple culinary experience that needs to be visited a few times throughout the week. The warm welcome we receive by Keira, Scott and the team not only gives an instant friendly homely vibe, but more of that familiar feeling of nostalgia when visiting a regular favoured haunt (Great to see the ever enthusiastic Dennis back in front of house!) Unlike other restaurants in Bansko, the tantalising menu has something for everyone. The burger concoctions in particular are unique to Smokey's and are cooked correctly (not charred like most appear to do), paired simply but effectively with moreish hand cut fries. But the true magic comes "from the smoker" element of the menu, which Scott clearly demonstrates with great passion within every meal he and his team prepare. The pictures just don't do enough justice I'm afraid. The venue is contemporary in styling, although a warm and inviting environment. Tucked away from all the tacky big light up eateries that claim to be the best in Bansko. It's a far cry from the previous rustic traditional Bulgarian home of Smokey's near the old town, but it bares no significance really. In my eyes, these guys could deliver the same high standard of food, cocktails and atmosphere within a garden tent! Truly exceptional at their craft. Bansko isn't all about the ski life, visiting simply perpetuates the desperate need to satisfy our taste buds with the culinary exploits of Smokey Mountain Bar & Grill.

Delicious burger, cooked rare which I love. Generous helping of blue cheese too! The thrice cooked chips were an absolute bonus, my partner claiming they were the best chips he’d ever tasted. He ordered the pulled pork nachos which were absolutely delicious too and very generous on toppings. Addition of a live singer/guitarist was very welcome, playing some great tunes.

Smokey Mountain is phenomenal as always! If you looking for the best burger, fries or meat dishes in town you definetly need to visit Smokey Mountains! High quality meat and made to perfection! Basically everything you order on the menu is always perfect, personally the pulled pork burger with jalapeños are my fave! But don't forget to share some nachos! When we went there we were lucky as there was a live singer playing amazing songs! Highly recommended, please don't miss out on this experience!

I went to Smokey Mountain Bar & Grill especially for the ribs. On the intent they looked amazing, but unfortunately you have to order the ribs (and some other dishes) in advance. Instead we went for the Brisket Bitterballen and Chicken Wings in a white BBQ sauce as a starter and the Bacon Burger and the Pulled Pork sandwich as main. The food was good as well as the service. Everybody here speaks proper English! The Brisket Bitterballen were PERFECT!!!! The Bacon Burger had not much bacon, but still tasted good and the Pulled Pork sandwich was marinated to perfection. I would have prefer the White BBQ saus as a dip instead of on the Chicken Wings, but... OK. The prices are quite steep for Bulgaria though. If it was a more western country the prices would have been normal.

The best burger I have ever had no doubt about it. The Greek salad and nachos are so good. The music, atmosphere, service beyond expectations. We are surely going to come here again, thank you Smokey Mountain 🙏🏼

Casa di Papi is a charming restaurant known for its delicious pizzas, especially the calzone and spaghetti bolognaise. The menu also features an amazing salad with pear and goat cheese, as well as delectable desserts. While some visitors found the food to be just okay, others raved about the quality of their meals. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it a must-visit spot for those who appreciate good food in a pleasant setting.
A wonderful place with friendly staff and a beautiful interior. Everything is well thought out, including a fantastic playroom for children. The food is exceptional! We kept coming back for their amazing thin-crust pizza several times during our five-day stay.

A unique Italian restaurant on the second floor with a view of the street (a few seats on the open balcony). Inside the restaurant there are plenty of seating and doesn’t feel crowded. The menu is rich and based on Italian cuisine: pasta, pizzas, risotto, and more. Service is relatively quick, but the waiter wasn’t very attentive and wasn’t very pleasant. The food is very tasty – a variety of pastas, salads, juicy chicken breast, and pizzas. High-quality ingredients. Soft drinks and alcoholic beverages are available. Additionally, there’s a playroom for children, so they can play after finishing their meal. The price is a bit high. Recommended for anyone looking for a good Italian restaurant, with plenty of parking within walking distance.

Currently in the restaurant writing this review. Food was amazing and the whole vibe is extremely cozy but high end at the same time. The manager is very welcoming and even had a quick chat with us about the place and local area. Would definitely recommend!!

We love this restaurant. We have visited more than once. both in the peak season, when there are many people. and when there are few, in the summer. By the way, there was the same waiter! Very friendly, pleasant. The dishes are delicious, the portions are very large! They can pack food with them without any problems. I have a small child, we took homemade chicken soup with us. The atmosphere is great, everything looks very harmonious! Thank you very much for the wonderful place! clarification: in the photo everyone started eating the pasta and salad. But I wanted to leave a review, so I took a picture like this!! They also have very tasty lemonades of their own production! Be sure to try them!

Food was amazing. Atmosphere was lovely, nice and chilled. Unfortunately the bill was plonked on the table as our starters were cleared, very strange behaviour 🫣. Ruined a lovely evening 😖

Tasteless food with no flavors. Everything was pre-cooked and the order was ready in the table on less than 5'. Everything came in an instant. Main courses, along with the cheese platter, along with the salad and the starters. Tasteless shrimps, pasta etc. The place was very beautiful and the service was doing it's best to please us. I think the main problem is the chef/kitchen staff. Or you know... It's just my taste that it's different... Maybe it's okay for someone else. Just saying.

Really good pizza in wooden oven, the other menu not very excited, for example rizotto with cream..
