History Museums
Clare Museum, as the county museum, offers a comprehensive exhibition called "The Riches of Clare" that delves into the history of the region over 6,000 years. The exhibition features authentic artifacts, informative text panels, and engaging audio-visual presentations. Divided into themes such as Earth, Power, Faith, Water and Energy, it includes a significant collection of objects on loan from the National Museum of Ireland.
An excellent museum with knowledgeable and friendly staff. Left the most positive impressions. Indeed, the museum is not huge, but very sufficient. The staff are trying in every way to help get additional necessary information. Often they manage to seriously help. They even involve additional specialists for more in-depth answers and obtaining comprehensive full information. The museum is free. And taking advantage of this, some people just go here to the toilet, and then allow themselves to discredit the museum. It's a shame. We express our deep gratitude to the staff. Admiration for the museum. And we are sure that we will visit it again.

Nice little museum to learn about the beautiful County Clare. Worth a potter around and it is free. There are toilets also

My best experience of joining Clare history. It was really exciting! Thanks a lot to John Rattigan, a Curator, and other museum staff for such an interesting excursion and good attitude for us. I recommend Clare Museum as one of the best option to have a great time.

This was a quaint museum that gives you a great history of the county. I was especially taken with the oral history captured from several residents and available to hear in the museum. We all found it well worth the time.

Very good Museum and gives you a basic history of Clare.A good range or artefacts found all over Co Clare over the years. It is a pity all those artefacts are on loan from the National Museum. The admission is free and a great way to spend a wet day or any day.Expec to spend at least one hour. The area covers two floors. Well worth a visit.

Ennis Friary, founded by Donnchadh Cairbreach O'Brien in the 13th century, evolved into a significant religious center and educational institution over the next four centuries. Despite its closure after King Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1540, it continued to operate until around 1690. The site features medieval carvings, including an image of St. Francis with stigmata in the nave.
A definite must visit. Very polite girl welcomed us in and gave us a nice overview of the Friary and then let us go along on our own. It took us about 40 minutes to go through. Alot of interesting history here. Worth the visit if you come to Ennis. I believe we paid 5 euro to enter.

Staff very welcoming and gave valuable introductions. Lots of explanations and exhibits going back many centuries. Please visit if in Ennis

Incredible 13th century Friary. Beautiful structure and surprisingly well preserved. Restoration work is also very impressive.

Beautiful Franciscan friary in the heart of Ennis. Take the guided tour. The history of the place is amazing. Almost 1000 years in existence and much of it still standing.

Absolutely amazing Frairy. We went at the end of their day and had the place to ourselves. So quiet, it let us absorb it all. Truly amazing.

A small museum of an old abbey in the city centre of Ennis. I really like how they combine the ruins with a lot of open glass walls. The entry is 5 Euro for an adult and 3 Euro for a child/student. You can spend about 20-30 minutes here.
J T — Google review
The staff were really helpful and informative. Well preserved place.
Sarah O — Google review
Definitely worth a visit. A guide gives you a brief historical overview then you are free to wander around the places. It's very well maintained and there are lots of cool carved details in the walls and in the graveyard. The main area is covered, so this is a perfect rainy day activity.

Sights & Landmarks
Clare Abbey, founded before 1189 on the banks of the river Fergus, is a significant historical site in County Clare. This old monastery, built in 1194 and considered a National Monument, offers a glimpse into its turbulent past. Surrounded by natural lakes and mature wooded areas, it is an ideal destination for history enthusiasts and those interested in medieval ruins. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as Bunratty Castle and Corcomroe Abbey in the Burren.
This gives an idea of historic passed. It's free to enter. Little explanations but you can imagine how it would have looked all those years ago
Claire T — Google review
A stunning abbey and so well perserved, it has good parking and the grounds were well kept and tidy, there is loads to explore and the interior is large. I truly enjoyed my visit you will too, cheers
Michael G — Google review
Very good size ruins with a good amount of room to walk around in. Have to be respectful and careful of the graves here, but it's very peaceful. Also, if there are other people here, you need to park on the two lane road before the abbey road because there is little parking and a narrow one way road to the actual abbey itself.
Jacob T — Google review
Looks interesting from a distance but we didn’t have time on our trip to walk all the way. Do not attempt to take your car up to the abbey, access is on foot only. The road is incredibly narrow with little opportunity to pass or turn around and no warning signs. Some people had parked on road side but as this is marked with dashed yellow lines it is not encouraged. It is a shame there isn’t more information to help people visit such a beautiful place.
Claire H — Google review
Well preserved abbey on the outskirts of Ennis. We stopped in the explore just as the sun had set.
Chad W — Google review
Definitely one of the best historical structures we came across, both because of its size and it's history. Definitely look up it's history while you are here! Was able to park right next to it and walk in. No one else was there when we went in April. We spent around 30 minutes here.

I wanted to book a taxi for 1.00 am .Was abruptly advised that there were no bookings after 12.00. Still I was in town during the week, and there was no shortage of Burren taxis, some crawling around the streets ,stopping outside pubs, and holding up whatever traffic behind them. However, I had no problem getting service elsewhere.
John C — Google review
Gave them a call and they arrived very promptly. Friendly and helpful drivers. Good value for money.

Ordering taxi with this company you never can be sure that the taxi will arrive on time often dosnt arrive at all. It is already the second time when the Burren taxis have failed on me, this time taxi didnt arrive at all again and I missed the bus to Dublin, which I was hoping to use getting to the airport. I'll never use their services again and I dont recomend you to.

A great venue in the middle of Ennis town centre and right next to the library. The acoustics are great and really comfy seats too. Very well organised for events, and you can also get a drink at the bar. There's also a cafe open during the day for lunch and snacks. Parking is free at night, and €3 per day during the day.
Aj S — Google review
Great place to visit. During our visit they were having a trad session with great musicians and such a lovely time. The scones were fresh out of the oven, the coffee was good and warming on a cold rainy day. It is a great place to visit and get to know a bit more about the place. The cafe closes at 2.30pm, so do not be caught with this time, and it seems that they have a new schedule overall. During the trad sessions it can be quite busy, if you want a table, arrive early to get a good sitting spot.
Flavio M — Google review
Excellent venue. Really comfortable seating with plenty of leg room. The bar is well staffed, so there are no massive queues. My only issue is the parking. It is very limited. Perhaps make an arrangement with nearby Dunnes to allow more than 2 hours if there is an evening event?
Goretti C — Google review
Absolutely fabulous venue, the theatre is wheelchair accessible and they provide a bar where you can get drinks or tea and coffees. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is also a lift if you need to get upstairs to the balcony. There are plenty of parking outside and accessible parking spaces.

Brogans, a long-standing family-owned pub located on O'Connell Street in Ennis, County Clare, is a beloved establishment steeped in tradition. Recently renovated under new ownership, this classic Irish pub offers an inviting atmosphere where locals and visitors can savor quality food and drinks. The menu features homemade soups, salads, mussel starters, locally reared steak, baked fish dishes, and stacked beef-burgers.
One night in Ennis and Brogan’s did not disappoint! I popped in after a quick Google search for a good local restaurant, and I’m so glad I did. I ordered the chicken curry with rice—it was a generous portion and absolutely delicious. Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and great food. Highly recommend if you’re passing through Ennis!
Marissa T — Google review
Cosy restaurant with a nice warmed terrace. The food was good, of high quality and looked great when served. The price of the food was correct. Rather the service was friendly but a little unorganized. They came too early to clean the table and even asked for dessert while we were still eating our main dish.
Victor D — Google review
It's difficult to beat the ambiance of a classic Irish pub and this one is a great example. Eclectic decorations, cozy seating setup, delicious food and cold beer. Makes you want to stay all night.

Had the boiled ham and cabbage at Brogan’s and, honestly, it tasted like a warm hug from an Irish granny. The atmosphere is buzzing, the people working here are absolute legends, and I left full, happy, and maybe just a bit in love with Ennis. Brogan’s isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a vibe.

Good food and nice staffs but plain environment. I thought lamb cutlets would be a fried one but actually it's similar to US version of a lamb shank. I ordered a lamb shank but that's not what I expected.

Went for lunch Saturday.. the staff could not have been more helpful with an above and beyond service attitude. It's very hard to find this level of service anymore. We were travelling for work. I really wanted a proper steak. They sorted me out with request including dietary needs. Tasty food, steak cooked as requested. Wholesome food. We did only try the steak. Highly recommended. Nice toilets, nice room, comfy seating and decent sized tables. Will be backif back in Ennis!. Thanks all!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I recently had the pleasure of dining at Town Hall Bistro in Ennis to celebrate a friend's birthday, and the experience was outstanding! From the moment we walked in, the service was impeccable. Special thanks to Rafa, Paulina, and Kathlyn for making our evening so memorable. The food was absolutely delicious, with each dish beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that our celebration was perfect, and their attention to detail did not go unnoticed. I highly recommend Town Hall Bistro for any special occasion or just a fantastic meal out. We’ll definitely be back!

I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The staff were attentive and friendly. The food was do die for. I had the cod and crab risotto and loved it. My husband had the lamb. I had a taste and was blown away. And my son has the chicken which can be boring but was anything but.

After landing in Shannon, we had our first evening meal at Henry's Bistro & Wine Bar. We were served two kinds of bread while we ordered our starters. Thr Seafood Chowder as a big hit! Others in our group enjoyed the Slow Cooked Pork Belly. The Tiger Prawns were also delicious! Our entrees included the Pan Roasted Salmon and the Surf-n-turf. The Free Range Chicken was also very good. Try Henry's Bistro &Wine Bar. You will not be disappointed!

Decided to come here on Sunday while on route to Limerick for a concert. So worth coming off the motorway for. Food was gorgeous, price was so reasonable and staff were so helpful and friendly. We shared a starter and the chef even sent out an extra plate with salad to us. That kind of thing never happens, we were so grateful. Would highly recommend and will definitely come again.

Bar
The Market Bar & Restaurant offers a cozy outdoor dining space for customers to enjoy their meals and drinks al fresco. The restaurant is praised for its beautiful food, nice atmosphere, and lovely breakfast options. Visitors appreciate the modest facade of the restaurant in Ennis and enjoy sitting both inside and outside, with a preference for the cozy outdoor area that provides a peaceful setting in the city center. Customers have enjoyed tasty gluten-free options, including burgers with rashers and good quality chips.
We were on our way from the cliffs of Moher to Sligo on a Wednesday night when we found this little gem of a restaurant on the way. When we walked in there was only 2 other couples there and it remained that way for the entirety of our meal. The restuarant was nicely decorated and roomy. We were told by the kind server we can sit wherever. For drinks we ordered an Orchard Thieves and my partner ordered the special drink which was a Strawberry Gin Fizz. The speciality drink was delicious and an okay deal at 10 euros. Since being an Ireland, we have been trying all the fish and chips along our route. So of course we tried the fish and chips here. The food came out quickly and was hot. The fish and chips definitely were the best we have come across thus far since visiting Kilkenny, Limerick, and Mayo. The star of the meal was the lamb loin which was on dinner special that night at what we thought was 15.5 euros. The dish is one I would eat again and again if I could. It had cut crispy onions on top of lamb loin which was on top of a bed of mashed potatoes. On the side there were peas, stuffing, and pureed squash. It was all so delicious and we finished every last bite since we hadn't eaten since the morning. If I was staying in Ennis and not just passing through I would have gone back the next day for lunch. If you are in Ennis or passing through take time to stop here it is worth the time.

On a late trip from Dublin to Liscannor was looking for food. This little gem of a restaurant was getting ready to close but kindly offered to stay open and serve our family. Food was really good, upscale pub fare. Clean, neat, restaurant with outdoor seating.
Steve F — Google review
This restaurant was fantastic! We stopped here on a tour and only had a short time to eat, but they had us in and out quickly without ever feeling rushed. They were amazing with food allergies—there was even a designated gluten-free and dairy-free menu that could be customized. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the food was outstanding. Highly recommend!

Had to leave a review for the level of quality service and food here. Myself and my partner went out for a meal and everything from start to finish went well. Credit to the servers there, so mannerly and friendly, and the food was excellent, with multiple veggie options. We each had cocktails, wine and 3 courses, all very satisfying and good value. Can't wait to go back :)
Catherine C — Google review
I went there with my mum for late lunch, it was very goof and the food came in a good time speed. We ordered carbonara and one portion of chips. It was good but the only thing I didn't like that one plate was full and the other wasn't, there is no consistency in portion sizes. Also, the chips portion was a bit smaller than usual, but it was crispy and delicious. The waitress was good and served us two large glasses of water with loads of ice. It was so refreshing for a hot day. My overall experience is good and I will ho again. The carbonara was so good and we ordered one to take away. Also the garlic bread was good, it was on the perfect side, the size was good, and flavoured well. I would like to ho again and try more, the prices were also reasonable.

I can’t say enough. It’s a wonderful place. Great food, great value, and great service. The owner is very engaged, very personable, and just provides awesome service. We ate here three times in 5 days. Snack, breakfast, and late dinner. With the number of great options in the area, that says a lot!!!

🫕🥣🍧🍰 I love this restaurant and bar, it's just extraordinary... I think this is the best place in Ennis! True, I underestimated its modest facade and often passed by it in the center of Ennis... But after I visited here for the first time , this is my love forever. 🥰 You can sit inside or outside, I love outside, with a cozy fence you are separated from the bustle of the city and at the same time you are in the very center. Unlike huge portions in other restaurants, which I do not eat myself, here the serving is very refined and at the same time everything is very tasty, beautiful, satisfying and appetizing! Vegan and vegetarian menus are also available here. Dairy-free mango ice cream with warm apple crumble and a light cream sauce won my heart. ❤ I didn't even notice that the ice cream is dairy-free. An excellent combination of cold and warm may not appeal to your teeth, but the taste is excellent. Served piping hot. Friendly staff, very pleasant place, I recommend!🥂🍾

The cinnamon rolls are particularly famous, and the coffee is considered the best in town. This relatively new addition to the area offers an impressive selection of baked goods, including tarts, scones, sweet and savory pancakes, homemade soup, and hot drinks. A lovely place , with a great variety of light dishes well presented and tasty (We've tried a goat cheese and chorizo salad and a toast with halloumi cheese and fried eggs, served with a salad). Best espresso that I've tried in Ennis and pistachio cookie was a delight.

Stumbled upon this cafe by chance. As soon as we entered we were greeted with a smile and instant service and a table. The food was great and the menu had everything you could want for a brunch. But the staff were excellent, lot of young people but know their jobs and very attentive which stood out. Highly recommend.

Delicious Sunday breakfast! Avo toast with poached eggs gluten-free were perfectly prepared. Mondo stack also delicious. Good Americano coffee.
Jeanne E — Google review
We went to Mondo today for coffee/cake and my boyfriend got a brownie. The brownie had some dried fruits in it, but the sign didn’t say anything about fruits. He was not happy with that because he doesn’t like dried fruit and didn’t expect that the brownie had fruit in it. Maybe we could have asked what was in it but the sign said just “brownie” and normally brownie is made of just chocolate so we didn’t expect that it contained fruits at all. We told one of staff about that and she just said “ok”, left and continued working as normal and nobody showed up, we waited for around 5 minutes and at that point decided to leave. Unfortunately our experience today is really putting us off returning which is sad as my boyfriend normally recommends this cafe. The cost for brownie was just 3.70 but we were disappointed that they didn’t explain anything, didn’t offer any resolutions and even didn’t say sorry or anything. We just wanted to suggest maybe writing fruit on the brownie sign or warning customers about it when buying it. We liked cafe vibe and coffee but that was disappointing service experience.
