A lovely, small museum showcasing the local history. We loved the variety of different time periods on the ground floor and there is a lift to the upper level as well as stairs. We’ve been a couple of times and been impressed with the quality of the exhibits and the clarity of the explanations. Loved the section on more recent times - lots of reminiscing with Grandma! Look in forward to returning for the living history day in July!

It was such a wonderful museum, and it was lovely to see history from back in the day to post war Britain. I was particularly impressed and humbled by the WW2 re-enactment of the Anderson shelter along with the exhibition on the tragedy in Flixborough 74. Kind staff, and it's always fun to see my era and all we had to enjoy

Want a great to learn about the history of the area. Absolutely full of intrestings to suit all ages. Free entry make it a must for all.

Deceptively bigger than expected and free! Staff were welcoming and friendly, explained the exhibitions, and for a bank holiday Monday; it was quieter than expected too. Lots of exhibitions, lots of interesting information and a lovely little courtyard at the back/side but no cafe; so good for picnics. Great information and some interactive things for kids to get involved in. Car park is a little out of the way, but plenty of parking and accessible for all.
K B — Google review
This museum is one of the best for children that I have ever been in! SO much to see, so many things children can touch, engage with and play with, and the staff were really welcoming. We will probably end up visiting again and again!

An amazing free museum!! I’m autistic and I loved how much sensory interactive stuff there was. My son absolutely loved it as well. One of the best free museums we’ve been to in a long time.

Excellent displays and all free. Had a very enjoyable hour or so looking around. They have displays of fossils, information on the steelworks, wartime including an air raid shelter plus stuff from the 70s.

Immerse yourself in a Victorian-inspired experience at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre in Scunthorpe. The former St. Johns Church now hosts a festive Christmas scene, complete with hands-on Victorian arts and crafts and a special holiday menu at the cafe. Explore the gallery shop for unique handcrafted gifts while keeping an eye out for Victorian Father Christmas. Additionally, the center presents various curated exhibitions throughout the year and offers educational programs for all ages.
I attend the 20 21 gallery every time the exhibitions change, I have also attended workshops and take my grandson to all the fun days they hold during school holidays. I highly recommend the gallery and think it is probably the best venue in town that caters for all the family. Wonderful for people who like art and great for family time fun
Karin W — Google review
It's a lovely place to visit for activities and to view exhibits. The staff are nice and friendly. Unfortunately the cafe tries to be "posh" and fails miserably. I ordered beans on toast. Was presented with a couple of spoonfuls of cheap beans and two slices of slightly tanned value bread and a blob of what can only be described as a solid petroleum by product. It's beans on toast for goodness sake! Definitely would not recommend the café.
Tim M — Google review
What an awesome place the arts centre is, I was there to entertain for a fabulous Halloween event as Jack Skellington, The Pumpkin King through Area51! A brilliant building, beautifully integrated into an old church building adjacent. Really great friendly staff and lots of energy for their event and the arts! It was a pleasure to be part of the day.

Children's farm
Sights & Landmarks
The Pink Pig Farm is a popular farm park in Scunthorpe, attracting over 80,000 visitors annually. It offers both indoor and outdoor play areas for children, along with a shop and a cafe/restaurant. The 30-acre farm provides an opportunity to experience the workings of a real farm and hosts events, talks, and animal handling sessions. Kids can interact with various animals like pigs, sheep, cows, and horses while learning about them.
Fantastic day out, hours of fun for all age, there is so much to do here, my children love it and never seem to get bored. The summer pass is such a good purchase, includes a foam party at 3pm each day very exciting for the kids and a great way to finish off their play. Plenty of seating and benches scattered about to sit back and watch the kids play, It has a Lovely clean, indoor play area, and imaginary play, friendly staff, good food & prices. Yes there isn’t lots of animals but there’s enough and the rest of the play & fun makes up for this I don’t even bother visiting others now as they just don’t compare!
Adele N — Google review
We visited in the evening for the low bang fireworks and it was brilliant, my youngest enjoyed the indoor play area first before heading outside, there was a nice spacious marquee with plenty of seating and the food was delicious. We really enjoyed the fire artists and bonfire and the fireworks were brilliant, I had 3 children with me ages 7 to 14 and we all had the a great time 🥰 parking was so easy too a lovely stress free evening
Cherrie P — Google review
Had a great day out at Pink Pig farm with 2 x six years old girls, an 18 month old and a 10 year child. The wooden rail carts and the foam party were the greatest ! The outdoor space is always a bonus when you have kids and there were extra activities on the field eg. badminton, hoop throwing, rope swing and zip line and more…It was a very hot day yesterday around 28 degrees?? The metal slide in the park was hot under the sun therefore the kids and unable to play on it, an open canopy or some kind of shade would have been useful also for the large bouncing pillows they were quite hot under the sun and unfortunately the kids soon give up on those. We would have liked more animals and more interaction with the all of the animals but understand this is difficult to safely provide. We had a great day out, great facilities at the farm. Enjoyed our picnic ,Stayed for there for nearly 6 hours.
Cheryl R — Google review
Been to this farm twice and loved it both times. Lots of things to do, from sand play, to roleplay, to seeing animals etc. Not loads of animals but my daughter still loves the ones there, and with everything else there is to do you can definitely make a whole day out of it all. The pumpkin patch was great with lots of choices of pumpkins and lots of photo opportunities. Food is also yummy in the restaurant. I’m sure we will be back again soon.
Chloe W — Google review
Looking after my great granddaughter and wondered where to go. It was an hours journey to The Pink Pig Farm but I'm so pleased we went. If you're looking for a fantastic day out with children that isn't going to cost an absolute fortune this is the place to go. Inside and outside activities, snack bar and cafe. And of course the foam party where all children was so excited. Please, please give your kids a day to remember and go to Pink Pig Farm.
Liz V — Google review
We come with two grandchildren 3 years and 8 years and both loved it lots for both ages there did not want to leave. And yes you do need Wellingtons towel But I did read that and we had them. The only thing I would say in the little wood aera could do with maybe little something for the children to find nothing in there for them once your in . But did not stop us off going in. We was at pink pig farm for 5 hours and loved it. And a big thank you for a lovely day and we be back . From Hull
Pam W — Google review
Our first visit to pink pig farm, it certainly will not be our last. My grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed their time here, lots for them to do and see the animals. The Halloween event was excellent, far better than others we have been to over the past years. The pumpkin field was beautifully presented with lots of photo opportunities on hay bales pink tractor and much more. Alot of effort was put into theme, we love the graveyard with Michael jackson grave and Glenda 🤭 We had a wonderful day thank you 😊
PNUT — Google review
Had a great time today at the pumpkin event. Lots to choose from and lots of photo opportunities. Making the witches potion was also a good activity. My little one enjoyed the indoor and outdoor play areas and it was nicely spread out. Would be nice to be able to feed the animals and maybe have a few more, but liked the fact that they were named. This was our first visit and we would definitely come back when the new play area is finished. Great value for money with all the different activities to choose from

Performing arts theater
The Plowright Theatre in Scunthorpe offers a unique live entertainment experience, featuring local music bands, comedians, and dramatic productions. One of its standout performances is the annual pantomime show that locals love. This quaint theatre also hosts concerts, comedy acts, and popular seasonal plays. The venue's charming ambiance makes it an ideal place to enjoy a variety of shows while sipping on mulled wine.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Plowright Theatre last night to watch the Canterbury Tales. The performance was hilarious and, in some scenes, we were crying with laughter! The cast were all absolutely brilliant! Thanks for a great evening of entertainment.
HELEN W — Google review
Went to see Clinton Baptiste who was very funny. The theatre is well placed with free parking close by. Unfortunately the theatre itself is a bit of a disappointment. The foyer is small so you feel like you're in a corridor. The bar area is poorly planned with very little room to stand or sit. Our seats were to the side and although I'm only 6ft I couldn't get my legs comfortable due to the lack of space. The seating isn't very steep which meant my partner struggled to see due to the gentleman in front having a very wide head.
Yo E — Google review
We enjoyed our visit to the Plowright theatre. The bar was well stocked for a theatre and the team worked hard to get everyone served before the show. The seats are a little narrower than some but the show was great with ice cream served at the interval. Exiting was swift due to extra exits being opened.
Angela G — Google review
Great theatre. Good place to watch a show. Staff are friendly and helpful. There's disabled parking available. Around 330 seats roughly in the main hall. Several car parks close by so parking shouldn't be an issue. There's a cafe upstarts that serves drinks, snacks & food. Close to the train station for those who arrive by train. I would recommend this theater.
Giannis K — Google review
If I could give 0 stars I would for the place and some staff NOT a reflection on the show! Extremely rude "higher staff" Seats that was not even there even though was paid for months in advance Just money grabbing When asked for email address to complain about the seats and higher person they gave me FAKE detail. Out dated, musty smell , dirty toilets.
Abbie G — Google review
Fantastic, intimate little theatre. Had a fantastic time watching a great show. Only thing that could be better is the air conditioning was rather hot in there in this recent heat we are having. But still a very enjoyable evening.
Sammy A — Google review
What a total dump missing seats sticky floors you will come out feeling dirty and staff who grunt and shrug there shoulders don't waste your money.
Jim — Google review
The Plowright is an ok theatre. It needs updating, but it's clean. The bar is small and often leads to a que leading down the stairs. The theatre is organised and has some semi decent shows. The staff are friendly and always helpful.

Park
Nestled in the heart of Scunthorpe, Central Park is a beautifully landscaped oasis that offers a delightful blend of formal gardens, fountains, and recreational facilities. This vibrant park is perfect for families, featuring an exciting children's play area complete with trampolines, a seasonal splash pad during the warmer months, and various climbing structures like monkey bars and zip wires.
It has a free car pack and it is dog friendly. If your dog is nervous be aware there are lots of dogs of lead here. It has a kids play area and splash park there's also an ice cream van about some days and a little cafe that does take away drinks and cookies. A really pretty place to walk around definitely worth a visit if you're in the area xx

Amazing for the family. Clean and well kept. Good for dog walks and picnic in the sun. Kicking the ball about. Grabbing an ice-cream or a cookie while walking through the forest.

Center park is an amazing place. It covers a large area in the heart of Scunthorpe. Whenever I go there, I feel very happy to see the views. There are a lot of trees and it offers a fresh and peaceful environment. In the evening, people love to enjoy their time in various activities including playing, walking, dating etc. In the summer, the park looks very vibrant and colorful flowers make it very quite and watchable. Similarly, the failing leaves create a warm and yellow & reddish in the autumn. Overall, it is a must recommended place for everyone, especially in the summer and autumn.

Took my 2 dogs for a walk here whilst in Messingham earlier this month. This is a Beautiful, Picturesque, very well maintained park. Spent 1.5 hours here walking around, admiring the surroundings and soaking up the atmosphere. It has numerous concrete paths to follow, making this park accessible for all to enjoy. There are numerous benches located throughout the park - perfect for a little rest or to enjoy some lunch. It has a very large tarmac car park, which is free to use, and holds over 100 cars - 9 spaces of which are for Disabled users. The car park also has a small section for Motorbikes to park in. There is a large information board located at the top left of the car park, which displays a large map and a brief summary of the park itself. Would absolutely recommend a visit if in the area 😊

Best for your children during summer. You can do many workouts, exercises, play with your children, walk with your friends, cycling and dog friendly. Summer children's fun fair is going. The place is clean, green and colorful 😍.

We hve visited the central park first time this year. Nice and warm day, twenty degrees today but bit windy and not very sunny. But still a lot of people, families with children came to spend some time outside and get some fresh air. Didn't change to much since last year. A lot people coming for activities like a running or walking. Walking with dogs. Still no bouncy castles but is just April. Kiosk is open. Got some drinks and snacks. Ice-cream van is already here.

I love this venue. I've attended several networking events here and the service and food is always top notch. There is plenty of parking and the staff are so friendly. Being gluten free can be a challenge when eating out, but they always provide alternatives of gf dishes. Highly recommended.

We had our wedding there in May and we couldn’t have chosen a better venue, the whole day was perfect from start to finish. From meeting Jenna 18 months before the day she was always on hand to answer questions and nothing was too much trouble. The food was exceptional as always, the rooms were clean and beautifully decorated. All the staff working on the day worked so hard and nothing was too much trouble for them. I would 100% recommend to anyone thinking of getting married there to do it because we had the best day and 5 months on and our guests are still talking about it.

We had to change our booking because of illness. The receptionist was so helpful with sorting out a later booking for us and even rang when I hadn't called to change it so we wouldn't lose the money we had paid. All staff were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the continental breakfast and are in the restaurant for the 2 nights we were there. The food was good but pricey. It was easy to find and had enough places to park.

Had a fantastic 50th Birthday celebration held in the function room. Fab venue with a beautiful outdoor courtyard, we arranged wood fired pizza for our guests and they were amazing. Bar service excellent with plenty of staff serving our guests. Our room I have to say was outstanding, modern and so comfortable with luxury bedding and an amazing selection of refreshments. Would highly recommend Jenna as planning your event is what she does best.

Attended a wedding here, it is lovely place for that extra treat.i think they will cater for most requests, we had pizza and chips for the evening food which made a change from the usual buffet. I was surprised at the lovely courtyard I didn't know was there. It may be more pricey than most venues but worth the extra. Ideal for the smaller wedding. With rooms available for guests

The atmosphere is relaxed, making it perfect for an early evening or quiet dinner. Customers have praised the attentive service and good selection of alcohol-free beers.
Wonderful lunch stop with my mum, relaxed atmosphere and staff very happy to help. Food was spot on, and served promptly. Top marks to Stuart at the bar- really welcoming and knowledgeable on menu, and also Josh for an efficient smiley service. All team keeping the tables cleared, nice and tidy place. Also a pool table here.

Food was lovely. Getting served to order your food was very slow. Staff we were being served by seemed nice enough but she took ages to ask what we wanted and then took ages to clear plates and ask if we wanted dessert etc.

The Anchor is a beefeater pub with the usual menu. The gammon and steak were very nice. There was a decent range of draught drinks, including old golden hen cask ale, which was in excellent condition when i visited. The staff are very friendly and efficient. There is an outside seating area and a free customer car park, enter your car registration on a terminal in the bar to avoid a fine.

We used to really enjoy visiting as the breakfast deal includes kids eating for free. However, we booked around 10:30am on a Sunday for Breakfast at 7am on Monday, we turned up for our 7am booking to be told we are closed, there is a sign on the door! I said we booked online and no mention of being closed so that's clearly an issue as you don't find out until you turn up! Second issue, the attitude of the staff member... Looks like we will be taking our custom elsewhere in the future!!! 👍

Erin our waitress was absolutely amazing, really polite and kind, and Max the chef cooked the most beautiful food! I went with my mum and dad and we all said how beautiful it was, ribs falling off the bone. I have a gluten allergy and I always feel safe eating here, I've never had a bad experience and I will certainly be back!

We were greeted by Erin who took us to our table. She was friendly, welcoming and very professional. She is an asset to this establishment. Very child friendly, we come a couple of times a month as a breakfast treat for the grand daughters or to begin a day out. Food is always good, staff are extremely helpful. We just attended today and our 9yr old grand daughter told them it was her birthday. When sat down she was presented with a card, a good quality activity book and a very posh lolly, they also made her a hot drink. None of this was expected or asked for, purely the kindness of the staff. You cannot ask for better quality service, Thank you for making the day start so special.

What a beautiful pub, stunning decor. We went for a meal, arrived early. Welcomed by a lovely young man. The food was great. Good portions, arrived at the table nice and hot. Pudding was lovely They have lovely gardens, too. Shame too Cold Will return Would definitely recommend it.

We were passing and decided to pop in for lunch, so glad we did. The service was fantastic sith attentive staff keeping us topped up with drinks and the menu was very good indeed. We decided to both go for the cow and chicken burger and was not disappointed. Firstly the size of the portions were huge! And the quality of produce definitely stood out. Both the beef and the chicken was delicious and the thick cut chips were perfectly cooked the side salad and fresh coleslaw was fantastic and to top it all off 2 huge onion rings. Stuffed is a understatement but we managed to split a sticky toffee pudding and custard. Needless to say we haven't eaten for the rest of the day 🤣. We will definitely be returning to try other items from the menu in the future for sure. Tje views over the river are beautiful on a clear sunny day and we sat outside enjoying the weather. The overall look of the inside was lovely too very clean and modern. The car park is limited but we had no issue finding a place.

Last night we had a meal at The Ferry Boat Bar and Kitchen, our ‘local’ pub-restaurant. There were eight of us, family and friends, so we got to sample quite a lot of the menu items! It was a lovely sunny evening and we sat outside on the riverbank for our pre dinner drinks. There is a lot of outdoor seating on the river foreshore, the flood bank and in the beer garden which is a bit more sheltered. Children’s play equipment is located on the riverbank too. Our starters were Brie wedges, prawn cocktail, duck spring rolls, salt and pepper squid, and mozzarella sticks. Main courses were fish and chips (of course!), Cajun chicken breast, lasagna, steak and ale pie and pan fried salmon. Desserts were chocolate fudge cake, chocolate brownie and ice cream, chocolate cheesecake, ice cream sundae and sticky toffee pudding. We paid around £40 pp which included wine, beer and soft drinks. We had a great night, thank you to the staff of the Ferry Boat who coped with our needs admirably!!

I visited The Stables to celebrate my mother's birthday and was pleasantly surprised by the exceptional service provided by the front of house staff. They went above and beyond to make my mother feel special, even treating her like royalty. They were also incredibly attentive to our 8-year-old son, offering him coloring books and pencils, making him feel right at home. The chef personally came out to wish my mother a happy birthday, adding a personal touch to our dining experience.
A little bit of Greece on our doorstep. Fantastic, freshly cooked food. Yes there is a wait for food, but when it's freshly made and tastes this good, grab a drink and enjoy the atmosphere. Very friendly and efficient staff, the chef taking time to speak to customers is a lovely touch. The room is intermate, however tables are spaced out and waitresses wear masks, so it's Covid safe. Highly recommended.

Nestled on the way to London, The Shires is a delightful dining spot that may initially appear unassuming from the outside, resembling a bowling green. However, its popularity is evident with a bustling car park and an inviting atmosphere inside. Upon entering, guests are greeted by an array of delectable desserts displayed in a charming setting adorned with vintage film posters that evoke nostalgia for classic cinema. Having visited The Shires multiple times, it's clear that both the food and customer service continue to impress.
Visited this place on our way to London. Looking at this place from the outside I was a little reluctant as to actually go in as it looked and in fact is a bowling green. However the car park was full and the overflow car park had a few cars in. When we got in we were greeted with the desert chiller with some beautiful looking deserts. The inside of this restaurant is covered with old film posters and being of that age to appreciate the carry on films & on the buses it was nice to see the posters. The service was good and pleasant, the staff were nice and friendly. The food was first class. Everything was of a very good quality cooked perfectly and the taste was great. A truly enjoyed meal and relaxed time here.

3rd visit to The Shires & the food, customer service just gets better each time. The staff are friendly & very attentive. The prices are very reasonable, given the current financial situation. The restaurant is immaculate, well laid out with plenty dining space & there's a function room for larger parties. Last but not least, the food. I had a mixed grill & as you can see by the picture, there's plenty of variety on the plate. The steak was cooked exactly as I'd requested (medium rare). There's plenty of deserts to choose from too. From ice cream to cheesecake & plenty in-between. I thoroughly recommend a visit if you're in the area.

60th birthday celebration was supposed to be a special day! We had to beckon a waitress after a long wait for our order to be taken, we placed our orders from the menu and a couple within our group of Eight purchased the carvery. After 45 minutes of waiting we overheard a member of staff stating that they only had Turkey remaining on the carvery which neither particularly liked so had to change their order. The staff accommodated the change. A birthday cake had been put away for after the meal as a surprise.. it was definitely a surprise seeing it being taken to another table, fortunately the other table sent it back. 1 hours 15 minutes later the food was served. The food itself was nice but nothing special. The staff were pleasant but could have been better trained and organised.

Myself, my wife Carol and her cousin Lorraine go out every Monday night, for the last 2 Mondays we have dined at the Shires and we will dine here again. The restaurant is clean and comfortable, the service is friendly and professional, the food is excellent. Carol had gammon which came with new potatoes, eggs, large onion rings and side salad, I had lasagna, fries garlic bread and side salad while Lorraine had steak with all the trimmings. They were all generous portions and definitely value for money so if you enjoy freshly cooked, top quality food this is the place to come. Why not check out their menu online to see they choice of food on offer, I can guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Been using this place for years, always rated it but something has gone wrong with the service here. Booked in advance because I knew it would be a busy night, arrived and gave my name but the girl just asked how many it was for and separated two tables by a few inches to make a table of 6 for us. I pointed out that we had booked, her response was “we’ve been very busy” which is why I booked the day before! No one offered us a drink when seated. Had to go and find someone, waited ages for a drink and then two didn’t arrive at all! Eventually ordered our food, again a really long wait and two meals arrived but the rest hadn’t come. Asked the girl who brought the food where the rest was and she responded “I was told Someone else was bringing it but can’t be sure” And the bar maid was also poor, she could clearly see I was waiting but carried on putting glasses away and then answered the phone while keeping me waiting. Absolute shambles now. The mature women that used to wait in tables brilliantly and kept on top of everything were nowhere to be seen, just lots of very young girls and a young boy. The woman who used to be behind the bar was fantastic at keeping on top of things, she was not there either. I can’t remember how many times we have used this place, it’s a lot. But we will not be back.

Awful experience 14/08/25. Had a booking for 10 people, were quickly shown to our table but was all downhill from there. Waitress seemed completely disinterested, borderline rude. Took our drinks order but 20 minutes later only half our drinks had arrived, we had to chase to get the rest of them brought to us. We all ordered carvery, the queue was massive and when we arrived at the front the serving area was filthy with spilled food and sauces. We could hear the guy manning the carvery asking other staff to clean it up, but they were all ignoring him. The meat at the carvery was great, but the rest had been out too long; the veg was mush, the stuffing balls and yorkshires were dried out, the potatoes were ok but not seasoned particularly well. We all ordered deserts but had to ask several times for spoons, and one of our parties desert didn’t turn up and we had to chase. Deserts were ok, but the sticky toffee pudding had been microwaved too long and was very dry (and not at all sticky), the accompanying serving of ice cream on all deserts was tiny. We asked for the bill but had to wait close to 20 minutes for it to come, when it did we had been overcharged for drinks and deserts (11 deserts for ten people, and extra pints added). Had to ask the manager to sort it as the waitress didn’t understand the problem. To top it off, two of our party got sick from the food. Overall just really poor service and food.

Lovely quaint pub and restaurant out the way so not to busy, great for family. Portions are huge. Extra carpark so no hassle parking. Friendly good service. Clean and tidy place with plenty of room and function room. Nice to sit outside in the hot weather. Bouncy land is great for the younger kids and you can sit and have a beer while they play. Would definitely recommend
