Blankenberge

Blankenberge is a Belgian coastal town with a long beach and promenade, plus a busy marina. The Belgium Pier stretches out into the North Sea, offering views of the seafront. The town is known for its art nouveau architecture. The Belle Epoque Center, in several restored seaside villas, explores the area’s history from 1870 to 1914. Nearby is the Old Town Hall, built in Flemish-Renaissance style in the 17th century.

Nature & Parks
Sea Life Blankenberge is a family-friendly aquarium featuring over 5,000 sea creatures. Visitors can explore freshwater and tropical exhibits, including piranhas and Belgian lake fish. The outdoor area offers a Seal & Sea Lion Show, Asian Small-clawed Otters, Humboldt Penguins, Crab Island for hands-on experiences with ocean creatures, and the North Sea Discovery Centre. Daily shows are available in Dutch with an engaging English-speaking guide.
Lovely experience! Definitely give it a go if you're impressed by flora and fauna.

A Great Rainy Day Experience at Sealife Blankenberge On a rainy Saturday morning, my 10-year-old daughter and I visited Sealife Blankenberge, and it turned out to be a wonderful choice. We received a warm and friendly welcome, and the entrance went quickly. I would recommend buying e-tickets, although the online booking process could be a bit smoother. Even though the weather was bad, the park was not too crowded, which made the visit more relaxed. We started with the Amazon zone, which is beautifully designed and really feels like a small adventure. The attention to detail is on the same level as what you see in large zoos. The same goes for the Ocean theme, which is very well presented. Of course, Sealife is smaller, so you see fewer animals, but I don’t think it is fair to compare it directly to a big zoo. Instead, the smaller scale offers more opportunities for interaction. There are many interactive screens, available in Dutch, French, and English, and even a paid 3D experience, which shows they are trying to innovate. The staff walking around were excellent—very approachable, helpful, and always ready to explain things. This really makes Sealife stand out compared to some other aquariums and zoos. Outside, to my daughter’s delight, there was a climbing park. It was a great way to play and take a short break from the animals. Some of the outdoor enclosures had rather cloudy water, which made the view a bit less attractive. Still, given the North European climate, I can imagine it is difficult to keep the water and glass perfectly clean all the time. All in all, we spent almost three hours there and enjoyed it very much. At around €23.50 per person, I felt it was more than worth the price. Sealife Blankenberge is definitely a fun and educational experience, especially with children.

Yes ok, this Sea Life is small, but anyone who says you're done in 20 minutes simply has no heart. You can spend 20 minutes alone sitting next to the giant handicapped sea turtle and while you look into its eyes, the wisdom of the centuries flows over into you. You can watch the seahorses for just as long and ponder how the hell they can swim so fast and why one grabs the tail of the other with its mouth and pulls it down. You can be frightened by the surprise attack of a ray. You can watch a starfish wandering around, and so on and so forth. Plus, as mentioned elsewhere, the demonstrations with informative talks. The team is very committed and even goes out of their way to answer questions. Children can spend four hours without getting bored. However, it wasn't too crowded when we visited (Sunday in August).

Great family activity. Not to big but also not too small. Provides good information about the different animals.

Went at 10:00, otter feeding show was great 👍 not the biggest place but enough to see and learn about. Maverick was amazing at explaining how the rehab works for the sick, wild sea lions. Honestly a great experience and date for us, but the other people visiting were the only things letting me down. But then again its the summer, some families are just better than others in public

Sealife in Blankenberge is a very nice place to visit and really interesting, especially for sea world fans. There are many fascinating things to see and learn about marine life, which makes it a fun experience overall. The only small downside is that when walking inside, some areas feel a bit narrow. However, this doesn’t take away from the enjoyment – it’s still a unique and funny experience worth trying. And by the way… nice tattoo 🤣
Nasraouia M — Google review
Nice place for a rainy day. We went very late so we couldn't see all attractions. So we only can give 4 stars. People who work there are super friendly and we felt very good there. It's a nice attraction to do when you are in this area. 👍🏻
Esther Z — Google review
Nice place for the animals. Many rescued species, some of them released in the wild after being cured by their caretaker and others have a nice life there, as they would not survive in the wild due to their disabilty (Cracker the seaturtle, Lily the seal...). Very nice staff approaching you to give you more info and insights. A two to three hours visit should do, including the presentations when feeding various species (I love that they don't do circus stunts with the animals). Little advice: bring food and drinks if you want to eat here, as the food and drink options are quite limited.

Nice little museum maybe the most interesting in Blankenberge Information history good collection of pictures photos posters etc... The woman at the reception however is not so nice (flemish culture .... 🙄) the view on the terrace is useless but the big problem is it opens at 02:00 PM 14:00 its very late ! Casino
Located in the charming coastal town of Blankenberge, Belgium, Casino Blankenberge is a popular attraction with a rich history. The casino offers an elegant and sophisticated atmosphere and features table games like blackjack and roulette. Visitors can also enjoy a water-view restaurant as well as pavement bars and cafes, some of which are located on the beach. The Art Deco design of the casino with giant statues of babies crawling over the architecture is truly remarkable.

Very nice Casino with live game.Live tables is open from 16:00. Dealers on black jack what I saw until now they dealing perfectly. Slot machines you can play with cash, cash out with ticket or with card (what you receive on the entrance). They dont have free drinks, what is small minus from my point of view. All the staff was really friendly. They have restaurant where you can eat. They have parking and accessible entrance for the people with wheelchair. I recommend this place.

A few days ago I went to dinner with my husband and sister and after dinner we were able to see how one of the guys who works in the kitchen put his hands behind his back, after scratching he smelled his hands! That same night my sister had a very bad stomach pain! The next day the doctor diagnosed her with a parasite infection, I told him what I saw in the casino and he assured me that it was very possibly the reason! I will go to the necessary organizations to report this situation. It is against the law to have workers with parasites or diseases, it is easy to transmit like covid. 19

They have friendly staff. Additionally, there are plenty of tables and machines to play. This place is clean and it doesn't smell like cigarettes. Recommended for diverse groups.

This is the first time I went to the casino and it was a nice experience. Drinks are not too expensive and the people who work here are very friendly. I played with 10 euro at the roulette and the person behind the roulette table explained all the rules very clearly. Unfortunately it's sad to see that some people are losing a lot of money.

In addition to the arcade games, there is also a bowling area for visitors to enjoy. While it may feel crowded at times, especially for those concerned about COVID-19, the extensive selection of games ensures that everyone can find something they enjoy.
A pleasant experience, but undoubtedly the highlight of our visit was when the employee situated behind the gift shop denied a family the option to redeem their tickets after cutting in a line before us and told them to follow the rest, as he was currently supervising a student beside him. Truly a heroic action to take in defense of the other people who were neatly waiting in line. Sincerely P. Onytail

Unbelievable unfriendly... just imagine a casino for little kids. Warning for parents, kids come out crying after they have lost again, house always wins. Also curious what social inspection would discover here after meeting some of the staff. A leftover from the 20th century... I think the city could do better with another fonction for this large space.

Restaurant
Located in the heart of Blankenberge, Bistro De Boeie draws its name from an old fishermen's poem where spotting buoys near the coast symbolized the homecoming of those who had been at sea for months. The bistro aims to evoke the warm feeling of home, with hostess Ria welcoming guests in a heartwarming manner. Since 2016, this cozy restaurant has been blending classic cuisine with refined bistro dishes.
Only one visit so far, but such a wonderful surprise in quality and know how ! Certainly one of the most refined restaurant on the Belgian coast ! Bravo !
Pascale D — Google review
Nice interior, good food, polite personnel. I got a feeling that the restaurant tries to perform at a higher level than they can actually support. For example, wine serving can be improved (opening the bottle correctly, not leaving the shreds of the cover at the table, being more engaged with the guests). Those might be small things, but for fancy places they matter.

Above average restaurant in Blankenberge. The food is good but not completely matching the expectations when you look at the prices on the menu. That's why I gave it 4 stars and not 5. Service was a bit slow as well but very friendly.

Restaurant
For over 40 years, Da Sergio has been a cozy Italian restaurant in Blankenberge, known for its warm welcome and emphasis on conviviality. Situated on the edge of the shopping area and near the promenade, this restaurant offers excellent service and high-quality dishes at reasonable prices. The interior is charming and inviting, often bustling with patrons. Guests can enjoy a variety of vegetarian options alongside classic Italian dishes like bolognese and carbonara.
Amazingly tasteful Italian dining. Wonderful experience in a warm and cozy setting. A must try if you are in Blankenberge. Explosion of taste in every bite. Highly recommended!!!

This was supposed to be the best italian restaurant in town. Well. I ordered a Penne Arrabiata. The sauce was good, but the pasta was so overcooked that the penne falled apart on the fork. Was it just overcooked? Og maybe heated up in the microwave? The restaurant it selv was cosy, but the youngest waiter was not able to deliver som water upon request. There should be better places in this city. Fix the pasta and much is done.

Came all the way from Luxembourg to have one of my favourite Italian restaurants' cuisine and wasn't disappointed. The food is amazing, great servings and neat presentation. The classics are perfect (bolognese/carbonara/lasagna/..) and the other dishes too. Last time there weren't any lasagna ready and the server proposed an alternative which was similar. (Greatly appreciate the guidance). The staff is quick, efficient and welcoming. The restaurant is disability friendly, accessible to wheelchairs without issues and the waiters are very attentive to special needs. Too bad it's so far away and I can't visit more often !

Seafood restaurant
De Oesterput is a charming establishment that has been around since 1885, exuding a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. It all started with an oyster pit in 1888, and it has only gotten better since then. In addition to oysters, the restaurant offers a variety of delectable seafood dishes including lobster and other shellfish. Situated within a yachting area in Blankenberge, it offers attentive service and excellent food.
A unique setting and food of the highest quality. This is a lot more than a restaurant and offers a total experience to enjoy with the entire family. Simple seating, friendly service and seafood as it should be: fresh and cooked to perfection. The place to come to on the seaside
Yannick R — Google review
We visited this restaurant many years ago and had wonderful memories of our experience. This time, we ordered the Royal Seafood Platter paired with Moët & Chandon champagne. Unfortunately, the seafood was not as delicious as we remembered. It tasted as if it had been prepared in plain water, without salt or any spices – the flavor was simply "water." This was quite disappointing. Service: We had to get up ourselves to grab water glasses because the wait for the staff was too long. Atmosphere: The ambiance is pleasant, and the people are friendly, but these issues left us feeling disappointed.
Rina — Google review
If you're a seafood lover, De Oesterput is an absolute must-visit. From the moment you walk in, the aroma of buttery garlic and Old Bay seasoning wraps around you like a warm hug from the ocean. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between casual and cozy—think seaside shack meets rustic charm. I ordered the signature crab boil, and it did not disappoint. The snow crab legs were sweet, succulent, and steamed to perfection. Paired with corn on the cob, red potatoes, and sausage, every bite was bursting with flavor. Their house-made butter sauce is a game-changer—rich, garlicky, and addictive. Service was fast and friendly, with staff more than happy to explain the menu and recommend pairings. Prices were reasonable for the quality and portion size, and cracking open those legs felt like a fun little treasure hunt. Pro tip: go early or make a reservation—the place fills up fast. Bonus points for having hand wipes on every table and plenty of napkins, because you're gonna get messy (in the best way). Overall, Oesterput is a five-star experience for crab fans. Bring your appetite, your shell-crackers, and someone who doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty.

Update Sept. '23 : Went here with the family and enjoyed a delicious plat fruits de Mer, Lotte, and lobster. Always nice coming here, but make sure to book in advance! Unfortunately our service today was not the most friendliest man. Perhaps he had a bad day 🤷 Sept. '22 : Been here before so I knew what expect : the experience of eating at De Oesterput. Beautiful settings and decor and this place is all about seafood and fish. Though it's always tasty here one needs to fairly add that prices are at the higher/highest range in Blankenberge(!). For certain dishes like mussels I personally think they come over-priced. During our lunch today all seats were taken, it was a crowded house so best to reserve a table in advance. Enjoy!
Pascale S — Google review
4 Kings of the Sea is slightly overrated, better select something not proactively insisted by waitress for 54 Euro, the portion is also small. Langoustine was full of sand, could not eat normally. Only lobster (1/2 Kreeft) was good, better just to order Kreeft,

My family and I had brunch here, and I would say it became our favourite lunch place—Delicious, fresh and flavourful seafood with many selections of fish dishes. The staff were friendly, and I liked the atmosphere! It is highly recommended to make a reservation to eat. We had Gegratineerde Oesters met Champagne for appetizers with aperitief. As for the main dishes, we had the Plateau de Fruits de Mer Royal, Homard Grillé Au Beurre d'Ail, Gebakken zeetong, and Viscasserol ”Oesterput” with bottles of white wine. Overall we had a lovely time, and I will definitely come back again!

Restaurant Blankeduyn offers a delightful dining experience with its delicious food, cozy atmosphere, and affordable prices. Visitors have raved about the tasty dishes such as mussels and shrimp croquettes, praising the friendly service and welcoming ambiance. The restaurant is known for its top-quality cuisine made with fresh produce, making it a must-visit for those seeking a flavorful and inviting dining spot in Blankenberge.
Heel lecker- we spend a lovely evening The food was delicious and fresh. (Only the person opening the oysters had a bad day or was new - nearly all of our 18 oysters had parts of the shell inside). Otherwise the food was of great quality and very well cooked, which makes the higher price range justifiable. We had poached eggs and oysters as starter, seizures and entrecôte and some dessert. All very tasty and nicely presented. (Oysters are not on the menu, but if it’s offered within a menu, you can also order it separately. ) The staff was partly young and seemed not too experienced sometimes. But this was compensated by the staff being very friendly and engaged. In addition the owner(?) / manager passes by several times to make sure everything was as expected. (Only the oysters - see above - seemed not to be such an issue. This was the only disappointment in the overall picture as that was really an annoyance after the first ones. But as said - that was probably an exception. ) Overall highly recommend.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Super rude from the start, no manners, basically barbarians. We sat down at 19:45 and ordered 2 entrées and a Côte à l’os. After a while they told us that there was enough meat left for only one person and all the meat choices were finished. We then had to change our first choice but, at 21:30 we were still not served. When I got to the counter to enquire about it and to tell them that almost 2 hours of wait were a bit excessive, the man in charge threw the napkin he had in his hands towards me and said very arrogantly “and what do you want me to do about it?”. To which I calmly pointed out that that was not a nice way to approach a customer. As a result he started being aggressive and getting more rude by the second. His wife (i think…) had to intervene to calm him down and told him that she would have handled it since he was clearly unable to interact with another human being. As a result, 2 hours later we left, AS OTHER TABLES DID! without eating anything else apart from the entrées. The entrées tasted good I must say, although I’ve been sick during the night and I am still not doing great (I don’t know if it’s because of their food but it was the only thing we ate that day except for a simple sandwich for lunch). BEWARE: they don’t tell you anything in advance, nor if there is a long wait nor if they basically have nothing left in the menu. In total we paid €50 for what we took, excessively expansive for the terrible service and manners we had to face.

The food was nice but the service was not too welcoming, when we arrived they just pointed the table without bringing us, asking tips for the manu the answer was that everything is good, we ordered theirs menus and the meat stew they served us was still cold and some deserts were not available anymore but they did not told us upfront before ordering the menus.

Nice restaurant, in a less nice town. The main dish was really good - the fish was excellent. The dessert, especially the ice cream could be a little more ambitious. All in all a recommendation for a restaurant.

If there was 0 stars I would give that. If you want food poisoning then go to this place. They serve you raw chicken. Then they want to reheat it. Then they cook you a New one. Don't offer anything as compensation. Then they can't accept 2 visa or master card. Bank account or credit card. Then say to you your bank card is a credit card. Unbelievable service. So much for nice last meal before heading home. Thanks for spoiling it.
