Banos

Baños de Agua Santa is a city in Ecuador’s Tungurahua province and a gateway to the nearby Amazon Basin. It’s known for access to trails on the active Tungurahua volcano just south, and for its mineral-rich hot springs. The central Church of Our Lady of Holy Water has paintings depicting miracles attributed to the Virgin Mary. To the east, El Pailón del Diablo and Agoyán are dramatic waterfalls on the Río Pastaza.

The Ruta de las Cascadas, also known as the Waterfall Route, is a popular tour in Banos. However, it's easily doable on your own by renting a bike for around $10 per day and following the road. The route offers access to Sangay National Park and features numerous hiking trails, stunning waterfalls like Cascada Manto de la Novia, and the impressive Pailon del Diablo Waterfall.
Second time visiting Baños and of course we had to go with IVAGATOURS to make sure we had a fantastic experience. This is also our second year requesting them, we have only done private tours with Daniel who is awesome and explains everything so well. Private tours are best when going with a group, friends or family since they will allow more time at the stops and there is not that much rush. If there is a third trip we would love to try something different and know for a fact this is the place to go for adventures!! Thank you guys!!

Great tours to Las Cascadas and Casa del Arbol!! For $5 each taking a half day.

My son and I had an fantastic time with Ivagatours. My son is 6 and our guide Mateo was so patient. He really helped provide my son with the confidence to tackle even the largest waterfalls. My son and I both felt safe with Mateo as our guide. We were the only ones on the tour so it was extra special. We went to the Rio Blanco waterfall. We repelled, zip lined and slid down multiple waterfalls. The best part is they take all the pictures and videos for you so we could focus on having a great time. 10/10 recommend 👌

We ended up walking all over this place. You pay for it and walk down the hill to the waterfall. Take selfies and get wet. Then you walk across a bridge and then you pay at another side and get to go all the way underneath the waterfall and experience it from a different side. It's pretty tight and you have to crawl to go behind the waterfall. We took bikes down! Have fun exploring! You can wait for a ride at the bottom and pay the nice gentleman a couple dollars to get you and your bicycle back up the hill.

One can find some of the best waterfalls all on this short road from Banos to Puyo Stop and do some zipplining along this beautiful road.

AGENCIA PAILON DEL DIABLO Cia. Ltda. *TOURS offers an exhilarating adventure to one of nature's most awe-inspiring wonders, the Pailon Del Diablo, or Devil's Cauldron. This stunning waterfall is not just a sight to behold; it invites you to explore its surroundings through a thrilling rainforest pathway that leads behind the cascading water. As you navigate this narrow cavern, you'll find yourself ducking and weaving your way through the lush landscape.
(Translated by Google) I consider without a doubt that it is one of the wonders of the world All very well cared for The trail a bit slippery, adorned with bromeliads, orchids and exotic and abundant vegetation If you go slowly you don't get tired Before reaching the top, there is a suspension bridge, with a total record of this impressive waterfall, I did pass it, There are several viewpoints, then continue climbing, there is a very complete, clean and organized parador, and there comes the strongest climb, this part of the path is made of stone. The view is more and more exciting, and finally the final stretch to go to the cave to heaven is very narrow and low, you spend lying down As a unique experience (Original) Yo considero sin lugar a dudas que es una de las maravillas del mundo Todo muy bien cuidado El sendero un poco resbaloso, adornado con bromelias, orquídeas y exótica y abundante vegetación Si vas despacio no te cansas Antes de llegar a arriba, hay un puente colgante, con un registro total de esta impresionante caida de agua, yo si lo pasé, Hay varios miradores, luego continúa subiendo, hay un parador muy completo, limpio y organizado, y allí viene la subida más fuerte, esta parte del sendero es de piedra. Termas de la Virgen in Banos is a popular spot offering hot, cold, and healing waters. The entrance fee is $4, and you can purchase or rent a swim cap and bathing suits if needed. There are change booths, showers, cold pools, and three varying degrees of hot pools. Local advice suggests using the water for healing therapy by alternating between cold showers and hot pools. It's recommended to visit in the evenings when the water is hotter.
Awesome place with super hot springs and cold plunge Go there during the week when it’s quiet Too many people on the week end On a nice sunny day it’s a great outing They also have massage for 20$ 45 min sports massage Lorena gave an awesome massage even added hot stone and a massage gun Perfect after a hot and cold spring!
C P — Google review
Overall a pleasant experience. The pools have a pleasant temperature, although they can be a bit crowded. Water is greenish. Cold pools / showers available. You can leave your belongings in a plastic box that is looked after. Swimsuit, towel slippers and cap are compulsory. They are available for rent or you can purchase them for the same price at the stalls just outside. Entrance is 4 USD.
Daniel B — Google review
Very nice! Not too busy on a Monday evening. You pay $4 each and then go upstairs to the changing area where there are also bathrooms and showers. You can put your things in a blue bin and an attendant will watch them for free. Upstairs pools are gentle in the evening while the downstairs ones were quite hot/cold. Best to bring flip flops and a bathing cap, and maybe soap for your shower after the baths. There is a small store where you can buy snacks/drinks.
Maddy S — Google review
These waters make you feel like a local. The entry is $3 but make sure to bring a bathing cap otherwise they’ll provide one for you for $1. Overall pretty clean and maintained, the cold showers help balance out the heat. Must visit when in Baños.

We paid 4$ each for entrance. There were multiple pools from cold to very hot. A bit crowded around 8pm. Great view to the waterfall

Cafe Hood is a hidden gem located just meters from the famous Cascada de la Virgen in a quiet street near the town center. The menu offers a variety of high-quality Asian and vegetarian dishes at great prices, making it popular among travelers. The funky artwork and attentive service add to the charm of this long-time favorite restaurant in Banos. Whether you're a vegetarian or a carnivore, there are plenty of delicious options to choose from.
The portion size is huge. I had the pad Thai and could have easily had it over the course of 2 meals but it tasted so good I couldn't put my fork down. They also provide a complimentary bread and dip which was very thoughtful. The lady that works there was very lovely and brought me additional dip which had a good chilli hit to it.

I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Cafe Hood Resto-Hotel, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience! Nestled in the heart of Baños de Agua Santa, this charming spot offers a perfect blend of ambiance, friendly service, and exceptional cuisine. I ordered the Pad Thai, and it was simply outstanding. The flavors were beautifully balanced—perfectly cooked noodles, fresh vegetables, and just the right amount of sauce to create a delightful harmony of sweet, tangy, and savory notes. The portion was generous, and every bite was a burst of authentic, well-seasoned goodness. Beyond the food, the atmosphere here is warm and inviting, with a relaxed yet vibrant energy that makes you want to stay and savor every moment. The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, ensuring that my experience was nothing short of perfect. If you’re in Baños and looking for a place that serves fantastic international cuisine with a cozy and laid-back vibe, Cafe Hood Resto-Hotel is an absolute must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Would you like me to post this on a review site for you?

One of the best vegetarian food restaurants I have eaten at. Prices are very reasonable, food is delicious, atmosphere is wonderful, inside and outside seating. This is a restaurant and not a hotel.

Some high and lowlights: We ordered the curry with pollo and for my gf with fish which was supposed to be the house special. Although the taste of the curry as such was good, the whole dish was a bit boring as it lacked vegetables and had only rice (a lot) with it an a bowl of curry. Then for desert we chose the banana split, the ice was very good, but the banana was frozen probably at same time as the ice: so uneatable. The red wine (Argentine) was amazing The waitress was kind and patient and serving us well, however, when we expressed our concerns about the curry, we did not receive any response. She just went back to the kitchen Also at a random moment after we completed the main course, she suddenly presented us with the bill. However, we still wanted a dessert. But she did not ask nor informed us that the restaurant was going to close. The herbal thea (herbal louise) was very good 👍🏻 And then again she presented the bill for the second time u asked and tried to take away our thea pot: looks like she want to go home. Which we can understand: however : it would be nice to have it made explicit. We just read the website and we read that it is open till 10 pm. It is now 8:45 pm and the business closed By the way: google says this is a hotel, but it is restaurants Oh, after completing this review we got informed that the staff had to leave early because of the curfew.

Such an amazing restaurant! Located in the center of Baños and easily reachable while walking through the center. We loved the furniture and the whole arrangement of the restaurant. The food was extremely good, very fresh ingredients and big portions. There is plenty of choice for vegetarians/ vegans and the staff was very lovely. Absolutely recommendable.
La L — Google review
Ordered the hamburger under the lighter options section of the menu and the chicken Teriyaki. Burger was excellent and a lot larger than expected but the Teriyaki chicken was a little overcooked, which seems to be the rule from our experience. Prices were very reasonable and service was excellent. The art on the walls lends a nice ambiance to a lovely place to chill and enjoy a beer or coffee and some food.

Swiss restaurant
Swiss Bistro Baños is a popular and somewhat pricey restaurant known for its delicious Swiss fondue and broad food options. The bistro offers an amazing hot chocolate topped with a thick layer of Chantilly cream from the to-go window, making it worth the indulgence. It has become a local institution due to its excellent food, great atmosphere, and one of the best outdoor eating areas in town.
Three of us went to this lovely restaurant last night and had the best dinner! The food was delicious with very large portions and the service was terrific. The location is very nice as it is a short distance from the centro, so it was peaceful and the setting is beautiful with a garden. We loved it!

Always happy to come across a Swiss restaurant when you‘re from Switzerland! The Älplermagronen were delicious! Though it was my first time having them without potatoes. Also the decoration was thoughtful! A great spot for a taste of home!

The food was delicious. But, it took about 3 hours for 22 people to eat there. It's beautiful place and friendly people.

The staff is very friendly and offers a nice service. You get very good, high quality food for a fair price. We absolutely liked our visit there and would definitly come back, if we ever go to Baños again. Also the decorations is thoughtful with milk churns as lamps and pictures of different parts of Switzerland and stuff. We both recommend this restaurant!
Flavia T — Google review
We waited more than an hour for the food and the waiter answered unfriendly when we asked how much longer we have to wait… the food was not more than „okay“. The Cordon Bleu was very dry and the beef was not too bad. The Berna Rösti was good, but nothing special. The music was too loud and did not help the ambiente. We are Swiss and we will not come back. It‘s not worth the money.
Ma B — Google review
Probably the best food in Baños. Swiss Bistro is a mandatory stop every time we travel here. The trout is very nicely prepared.
Daniel H — Google review
Service was terrible, took 15 minutes to get the menu. Then, the waiter explained prices differently from what the menu stated. By the time he knew what the price of the meat fondue was we had alredy ordered the fried camembert entry. It's an 9$ dish that the waiter said was their speciality. Well... all we can say is that we don't want to try anything else if that's their speciality. Got served two small pieces of fried Camembert with a he'll of a lot of salad to fill the empty plate. By the way, fondue is $20 per person for 200g of tenderloin. Not worth it.

The food was delicious but the atmosphere insufficient. The restaurant was really cold, we even had to wear our coats whilst eating. No candles or firewood on. Could improve. Many vegetarian options with SEITAN, like vegetarian pad Thai, 2 vegetarian curries, vegetarian nasi goreng, we loved it!

Wow! Just amazing good food, all served by very nice staff. All ingredients taste fresh and their salsa picante did remind me of the spicy salsas you get in the very best TexMex restaurants in Tx. I’ve eaten several “almuerzo’s” so far and a few times from the menu. All is just superb. I enjoyed the NasiGoreng a lot. I hadn’t had a really good tasting NasiGoreng in years. I keep going back to this place. On top of all that, I love it when they fire up the fire place on a chilly rainy day. PS no plastic bottles used at all. They’re very environmental oriented.

Nestled in the vibrant town of Baños, Sher E Punjab is a delightful gem for those craving authentic Indian cuisine. This restaurant stands out among a diverse array of dining options, offering an inviting atmosphere and ample seating near the bus terminal. Guests rave about the superb dishes, particularly the tender Butter Chicken paired with Naan bread that leaves you wanting more. The Chicken Madras also receives high praise for its perfect preparation.
We were very hungry and came to this cozy place based on reviews. And we are delighted! The owner of the cafe speaks English, he took our order. Very friendly and accommodating. We ordered chicken curry and chicken with coconut sauce with mushrooms, it was incredibly tasty and the portions were also large. We ordered garlic flatbreads with the chicken, oh they were so delicious! Definitely worth visiting if you are in Banos! We were absolutely delighted!!🤩

Great place to grab some quality Indian food while in Banos. Everything we had was very tasty. The chicken samosas came with three different sauces; spicy, mint, and tamarind. They have a lot of vegetarian and vegan options as well.

Authentic, tasty and as spicy as it suppose to be. The food is at European level of quality and it doesn’t lack of anything. I travelled India last year from West to East and would say that SherEPunjab is one of the best Indian cuisine I had. The restaurant is organized, clean and staff reasonably friendly. We waited only 15min.

Great little Indian restaurant in Baños. Wide selections of food. It all came with great taste and flavour. Nice atmosphere and service. I would definitely come back here!
Lewis P — Google review
Service was great. Restaurant was clean. The food was plain. I liked the chili chicken (6). The butter chicken did have some flavour but was just ok. The biggest disappointment was the mutton biryani(87). No flavour. Hardly any mutton and the mutton that was there was fairly tough. Asked for hot spicy and its like the cook ignored what the waitress wrote down. Did not feel we got quality for the price. There are many great restaurants in town and I feel like I wasted one of my few eating experiences in this town away.

If you're on the hunt for a delightful dining experience, look no further than Pappardelle Ristorante Pizzaria. This charming eatery offers an impressive array of dishes at fantastic prices. From the moment you step in, you'll be greeted by a warm atmosphere and attentive staff like Caio, who ensures that every guest feels special. The bruschetta arrives swiftly and sets the tone for what's to come.
The place is very cozy, with little noise and good lighting. We ate two pizzas, which we were able to order half and half with different flavors. The pizzas are really tasty with a thin crust and cheese with a splendid flavor. The prices are reasonable with good value for money. It didn't take long for them to serve us. Highly recommended.

This place is great! The server is very knowledgeable and professional, which is to be expected in a place of this caliber. Tomahawk Steak was cooked perfectly, and the carbonara is pretty great too. Ask about the specials and won't be disappointed with anything you get.

The service was poor. We arrived and asked if we could eat upstairs, and the waiter said, "Not upstairs because I'm alone." Okay, that's fine, but be more polite. There are ways to talk. Not cordial.

If you're like me and missing some home food, stop by Restaurante Papardelle. Great food. Pizza is wonderful, it has that woodfire taste. But we also ordered the Tomahawk steak and it did not disappoint at all. Came out like a super star, cooked to perfection by chef Francisco. It's a must if you love meat. Wonderful staff too, thank you to jairo and Roberto.
Ralph O — Google review
So actually, ALL the food we had from different pizzas to pastas (even the carbonara was ON POINT!!). Our disappointment came right at the end when we found out that the grilled chicken on the salad was raw in the inside. We didnt realize in the beginning because we didnt eat it, but the kids did. Kids know little when it comes to cooking chicken so we could only hope that everything will be okay with them! We showed them the pieces, they were not apologetic though they took notes and brought the pieces of chicken back to the kitchen. We paid and left with a bitter taste of the evening, which is a pity.
Thenomads — Google review
This place is fantastic for pizza. I can state that this is the best place to eat pizza in Baños. The environment is really nice, and the service is impressive. I suggest trying the Pappardelle pizza which I really enjoyed. However, they have multiple options to try. As a to, you can even ask half pizza of one flavor and the other half of another flavor. When it comes to beverages, they have some local beers and also some imported beers, so you can ask the waiter what you could try because they also promote some local new brands.

Good food. Not the best pizza i had.. service pretty slow and prices are a little high but overall good 👍

Outstanding food for great prices. Ordered a bruschetta, pizza pepperoni & risotto de mare and all three meals were amazing. The bruschetta was brought to us within just a few minutes by Caio, a waiter with incredible attention to detail that was working around the clock to attend to all guests in time. He has a great attitude and his etiquete was on point.
