Wat Phra That Khao Noi, a 15th-century temple in Nan, is renowned for its stunning sunset views and houses a tall golden walking Buddha statue. This ancient sanctuary, built during the reign of Chaopu Khaeng in 1487, holds relics including the Buddha's hair. Perched atop the mountain of the same name, it offers panoramic vistas of Nan and features an impressive nine-meter-high Buddha statue.
Currently the standing Buddha still under renovation. Iconic hilltop temple at Nan . Nov 2024

Serene temple on hill. You may drive up to the temple or park your car and climb up the stairs. I suggest to take the stairs as you’ll experience different vibes and work out as well. Just a little bit upset as the Buddha statue was under maintenance when I visited the temple. You can enjoy the view of Nan city from here. Suggest to visit here around sunset time as you can take stunning photos. The Chedi is beautiful.

A great serene place to have bird eye view of Nan, including the mountains nearby.

Always a great Wat to visit. This is especially so if you are a photographer. The golden Buddha is especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset.. The Buddha with the vista of Nan in the background is stunning. Allow plenty of time before and after the sunset/sunrise as the sky color changes just keep on giving. Also look at all the other beautiful structures in the precincts of the Wat. Highly recommend a visit.

Just a short drive up the hill from the main road. Good view of Nan from the top.

Always good to come and pay respect. Beautiful Buddha Rupa overlooking the town of Nan.
Andy M — Google review
the temple is located at the top of a hill to the west of the city (about 7 minutes and 3.2km from Nan National Museum).  Very nice view of the valley and the city.  As the view is to the east, the best time is to come in the late afternoon.  Access by car with parking at the top but it is also possible to stop halfway up the hill and climb the stairs for the more athletic.  We arrived around 5:30 p.m. and the sun was already very low in the west with low light over the valley.
Richard — Google review
No luck on me. I’ve to this place many times and the view point is good. You can see Nan city and stunning Buddha statue together. This time it was raining like crazy. I couldn’t see anything but still enjoying the scenery. Don’t forget to take the stairs. You will tried for sure but it absolutely worth it to slow enjoy the journey and rewarded by stunning view.

History Museums
Nan National Museum, located in the former palace of Nan's last feudal lords, offers a glimpse into the rich heritage and art of this ancient kingdom. The museum houses a remarkable collection of Buddha sculptures, ceramics, textiles, weapons, musical instruments, and royal regalia that showcase Nan's diversity and glory.
A Must-Visit Gem in Nan: The National Museum Before you even enter the museum, you are greeted by a famously beautiful Plumeria Archway. This spot is an iconic photo opportunity and a beloved landmark that almost every visitor stops to capture—it's practically a part of Nan's history itself. My first visit left me in awe. The museum is a treasure trove of national heritage, housing invaluable artifacts. The most renowned of all is the sacred Black Ivory, a unique and treasured heirloom of the Nan province. To visit Nan without seeing this is to have not truly experienced the city! Inside, you will discover: · The Fascinating History of the Nan Rulers: A captivating narrative of the local lords and their legacy. · Incredibly Rare Artifacts: The museum safeguards precious objects, including historic cases that once held the Tripitaka (Buddhist scriptures), which are now extremely rare to find elsewhere. The entire site has been meticulously restored by the Fine Arts Department, preserving its historical integrity and beauty. The architecture of the building itself is stunning. Final Verdict: This museum is an absolute must-visit. It offers not just breathtaking aesthetics but also a profound and educational journey into the heart of Nan's rich history. It is truly worth your time and exploration.

A great place to dive into the history of Nan province, especially its rulers and their influence on the region. Set in a charming old house, the museum is filled with artifacts like Lanna-style textiles and other pieces that reflect the area’s cultural heritage. Personally, I found it to be a small but interesting stop. It’s housed in a two-storey building and gives a good overview of Nan’s rulers. The 20-baht entrance fee for Thais makes it very affordable, and while it’s not a huge museum, it’s worth visiting for a quick, informative look at Nan’s past.
Erin N — Google review
Went here on Monday and the museum is closed. So I didn’t enter the museum but just walking around and take some photos at plumeria tree tunnel. This area is accessible and free to enter. Just that you have to study local weather if you wanna take photo with the flowers.
Wei L — Google review
I absolutely loved my trip here! I learnt so much about the history surrounding Nan. I went Saturday and was one of about 6 people walking around viewing it. There is so much to see in this historic building too. It was beautifully laid out and would definitely recommend to anyone to do. It had an extraordinary view from the building too of Wat Prathat Beng Sakat. And there is a tree tunnel for cool pictures also!

Historical photo archive and ancient objects Represents the culture of the past in Nan Province. There is a very beautiful place to take pictures. It is very popular to take pictures under the frangipani Pagoda trees.

The museum is located in the center city of Nan. Ticket is needed for entering the museum, Thai citizen 20 baht, foreigners 100 baht, inside the museum, the story of Nan province is well described. The story of the ruler of Nan province in the old days. Outside the museum, the walkway built naturally by the ลีลาวดี is another good place for photo shots.

Wat Phumin is a centuries-old temple in Nan, Thailand, known for its striking red-and-black pillars, Buddha statues, and intricate murals depicting everyday life. The town of Nan boasts several important temple sites and historical landmarks such as the Nan National Museum, Wat Suan Tan, and Pha Toob Arboretum. Visitors can immerse themselves in the region's rich history at the museum and explore stunning landscapes at Doi Phu Kha National Park.
A must visit temple in Nan city. It’s a historical temple but I don’t have much time to study about it. Easy to access and has car park across the road.

The must-see of nan. Probably a place you should visit if you're into cultural or historical or even spiritual sight seeing. It's not super busy and across the street you can get on a tram tour to see the city.

The paintings in Wat Phra Phimai in Nan Province are believed to date back to the late 19th century to early 20th century, during the Rattanakosin period of Thai history. These murals reflect traditional Lanna and Tai Lü artistic styles, which are prominent in the Nan region. Features of the Murals: 1. Stories Depicted: The murals primarily portray scenes from the Jataka tales (stories of the Buddha’s previous lives) and local interpretations of Buddhist cosmology. 2. Artistic Style: The artwork is characterized by the Lanna style, with rich, earthy tones and intricate details. This style blends religious symbolism with elements of daily life, showcasing the cultural and spiritual values of the period. 3. Preservation: While some parts of the paintings have deteriorated over time, efforts have been made to preserve them due to their historical and artistic characteristics.

War Phumin is famous for the painting of a man and a woman whispering love.
BangkokSachse B — Google review
Wat Phumin has Nan’s famous wall painting of whispering couple, hence, also known as the temple of whispering lovers. We were lucky to have two young girls explaining in their native language about the history of the temple. The unique architecture of the temple gives the feeling that the entire temple is riding the back of two giant dragons (nagas). Locals believe that if a couple would like to have a long lasting couple life, they got to come in front of this famous work of art and pay homage to the Buddha image.

Nature & Parks
Doi Phu Kha National Park is a high-altitude park known for its 1980m-high peak and rolling hills. The park offers excursions into nature, featuring 2,000-meter-high mountain ranges, limestone rocks, waterfalls, caves, and diverse wildlife. February is the best time to visit when the rare Chomphu Phu Kha tree blossoms, transforming the park into a pink sea of flowers.
The campground is not big but the view is very nice. The shower room is clean. It’s not so far from the view point 1715. There are two small trekking routes.
Phakapan — Google review
Our friends brought us here to see the endangered Chompoo Phuka Tree... We were glad to come in the right time (beginning of March) so lots of flowers on the tree. These trees are going to disappear in the world if we don't protect them! We also drove up to the Phu Kha Viewpoint. Unfortunately it's a bit foggy that day so couldn't see the beautiful scenery there. The museum was closed...Not sure if that's temporary... We bought some rice over leaf, nuts, and grains with the roadside merchants. It's a fun place to explore if you have time, I'm sure.
V N — Google review
The national park was as said, just a campsite, which cost $200 to enter, and an additional $50 parking fee if you're driving through. The bungalows were basically all unoccupied on the day of my visit, giving it a slightly eery but tranquil feeling. There is a 4 km hiking trail near the helicopter field, almost being overgrown with shrubs, worth a visit if you want to experience a walk in the deep woods, it's not a close loop though, probably ends at the carpark near the entrance.
Zonaht — Google review
The weather is cool and pleasant, and the scenery is absolutely stunning, lush greenery, rolling hills, and peaceful vibes all around. A perfect place to breathe deeply, recharge, and feel close to nature.

Doi Phu Kha National Park in Nan, Thailand is like stepping into a nature wonderland. It's full of green trees and stunning views that will take your breath away. I loved walking along the trails and seeing beautiful waterfalls. The best part was climbing up Doi Phu Kha, the highest hill there. The view from the top was amazing, even though the hike was a bit tough. But seeing all the plants and animals along the way made it really cool. There are also people from different tribes who live in the park. It was neat to learn about their way of life and see their traditions. Plus, you can camp there if you want to stay longer and explore more. Overall, Doi Phu Kha National Park was like a dream come true for me. Whether you're into adventure or just want to chill out in nature, you'll love it here. I think anyone visiting Nan should definitely check it out.
Sarobol M — Google review
I did not get to stay long enough to see all the park had to offer, but what I did see was absolutely stunning. We stayed in the cabins instead of camping in a tent. 4 twin beds per cabin, a shower, toilet and a small kitchen with a kettle for heating water and a microwave. It was quite comfortable. From the observation area where the sunset pictures were taken you can get a really wonderful view of the night sky. Turn the lights off around the building there, lay down on the observation deck and look up. It is stunning. They offer food preparation, which is the best route to go seeing as anything else isn't really close. All things told, it was decent food at a decent price. I hope to visit this place again when I have a couple of days to trek around and really enjoy the natural beauty of this place.

Encompassing nearly 1,704 km² in northern Thailand, Doi Phu Kha National Park is a premier destination for mountain scenery, rich biodiversity, and cultural heritage. The park features towering peaks (maxing at 1,980 m), numerous waterfalls—including the multi-tiered Phu Fa—and limestone caves. It is also exclusive habitat to the rare Chomphu Phu Kha tree (Bretschneidera sinensis). Visitors can enjoy panoramic views and sea-of-mist phenomena from viewpoints like the 1715 marker, embark on various hiking and biking trails, and camp or stay in bungalows amid crisp, cool air. Wildlife sightings include elephants, macaques, and diverse bird species. The park is open daily from 06:00 to 18:00. Entrance fees apply (THB 200 for adult foreigners), and facilities include restrooms, a visitor center, restaurant, and trail signage. Travel by private vehicle is advised; limited public transport is available via Pua. The best visiting window is November–February, offering the most pleasant weather and flowering season. Recommendation: Ideal for nature enthusiasts seeking immersive mountain landscapes, remote waterfalls, and unique ecosystems in a tranquil, well-maintained setting.

If you want to get closer to the natural, here is the right place. The weather is very fresh. The scenery is very very wonderful. For the home stay, it is just okay with the very cheap price and it is among the mountains so it's not so much comfortable. Please do not compare with hotel. By the way, I love Doi Phu Kha and will go there again next year. :)

Nestled within the Sri Nan National Park, Doi Samer Dao is a popular camping site offering breathtaking views of the sunrise and night skies. Visitors can witness a stunning sea of mist that blankets the valley at dawn and explore the nature trail to Pha Hua Singh, also known as Lions Head Cliff, for panoramic vistas of the surrounding forests and river.
What an awesome campsite. We spent 3 nights here and did some really nice hiking. It's always good to arrive early so you can pick the best place to set up your tent. The only downside is quite old toilets and shower buildings.

If you're looking for a quiet getaway surrounded by nature, with incredible sunrise and sunset views and a sky full of stars at night, Doi Samer Dao is a must-visit! It’s located inside Si Nan National Park in Nan Province, and it’s easy to reach by car. A short walk from the parking area takes you to the scenic viewpoint on top of the ridge. This spot is perfect for camping. If you don’t have your own tent, you can rent one from the park (around 300–400 THB). There are bathrooms and charging stations available, but no food stalls—so bring your own or order in advance. The air is cool and comfortable at night, with no city lights to block the stars. A dream for stargazers! The best part? Early in the morning, you’ll witness a sea of mist floating over the hills with golden sunlight peeking through. Totally worth waking up early!
Meaw M — Google review
It is amazing experience here. Camping, stargazing and sunrise. Unfortunately, when we come (mid-nov) the moon was showing-off and cloudy at midnight. When sunrise the fog came. But overall was good. If you rent tent here, please check first for any insect.
Bobby E — Google review
My first camping in Thailand. The place was clean and spacious. Public toilets were clean and they have charging stations, that’s a surplus! Rent a tent for 2 pax at 390 THB if I’m not wrong, it’s cheap!!! Before enter the park, you gonna have to buy ticket and pay for car park. It’s cheap tho, please don’t mind the price. It’s freezing cold at night and it rain on the night I stayed. Luckily the tent was water proof so I can sleep tight. Haha
Wei L — Google review
Arrived on 14/12/23 , A place to watch the sunrise and sunset in the same place. The atmosphere is very good. There is a breeze blowing. The park staff provide good service. The bathrooms are clean. Recommended.
LEW H — Google review
Another camping experience here, this place have special rules for car parks, you can unload your camping stuff near camping site, then you have to park your car at the parking area down hill. You can either rent a camp or bring your own, in the normal days, you will have to spend a bit of camping fee. There are restaurants delivery offered at the site, no need to worry about food. The view of stars at night and sunrise in the morning was stunning!
Cindy T — Google review
I can’t stop saying “Awesome” to this place, every spot my eyes see is so beautiful. The color of the grasses make me think of teletubbies 😂. It is truly relaxing and the view is stunning 🤩 After the rain, the clouds are just perfectly floating above this landscape. During rainy season this place is quite empty so I can enjoy the nature peacefully ☺️ This place is called “ Doi samer dao” because during winter at night you can see countless stars really close to you, as if this mountain as high as the same level as those stars ⭐️
Yosita K — Google review
We rented the tent for 2pax for 390thb. Didn't book anything. Came at 3pm they still have tent available. You can bring food to cook, there are so many items to rent for cooking. Come before sunset for the pretty view and wake up early at 5am to watch sunrise. So worth it! The toilet are clean too.

Restaurant
Huanam Mushroom Farm is a must-visit restaurant with a stunning view and pleasant weather, making it the perfect spot to savor a meal while overlooking the lush green fields. The establishment is often bustling, so be prepared to take a queue card upon arrival. With an extensive menu featuring premium mushroom dishes and options without MSG, this spacious restaurant offers various seating areas and an efficient queue management system. Guests can enjoy both local and Western cuisine, with their mushroom soup and pizza being highly recommended.
Amazing food! We had the pizza, tuna sandwich, ricotta pastry, and steamed veggies, everything was very tasty. I liked the pizza and ricotta bakery the most! I wasn't too impressed with the sandwich though, as I felt it could’ve had more filling. When we arrived on a Monday afternoon, they told us there was a 30-minute wait for a table. However, after about 5-10 minutes, a table away from the view became available for us(2 people). I recommend checking availability and reserving your spot before coming. As for parking, there’s plenty of space, though the driving is a bit tight, but we managed just fine.
Adi C — Google review
Large mushroom farm estate with plenty of space and different zones for dining and cafe. Menus focus on mushroom-based dishes with some meat options. Flavors were moderate for us though. Service was good, staff handle large crowds efficiently. Scenic views overlooking paddy fields and high mountains add to the overall experience.
Ben M — Google review
This Northern-style restaurant is a delightful spot that stands out with its creative use of mushrooms as the star ingredient. The menu features a variety of dishes, from pizza and soups to stir-fried options, all packed with rich, satisfying flavors that showcase the versatility of mushrooms. However, during high season, be prepared for a wait—at least 30 minutes for a table and another 40 minutes for food. Parking can also be a challenge, as it fills up quickly. Additionally, the narrow road leading to the restaurant requires careful driving. While the food and atmosphere are worth it, plan your visit with these factors in mind.
Vethanee P — Google review
Here’s a review based on your experience: --- I had high hopes for this place, but it was very disappointing. After waiting an hour, the food was simply not worth it. The mushroom soup lacked flavour, tasting more like water than a proper soup. The signature mushroom pizza was another letdown – there wasn’t much mushroom taste, and the cheese layer was so thin it hardly added anything to the dish. As for the tempura mushrooms, they were bland on their own and needed to be dipped in an overly sweet sauce just to have any flavour. Overall, it didn’t live up to the hype and certainly wasn’t worth the long wait.
Germaine G — Google review
Delicious food and many can be ordered with mushrooms. Yummy food. Parking is somewhat difficult because of many cars coming. Friendly staff.
Nanda A — Google review
This is special restaurant for a mushroom lover. Pretty much all menues serve with mushrooms!! The mushroom is organic and grown in the farm, next to restaurant. Their Pizza, local Northern dishes and soups are great. For the ease of you, show the photos I posted, order everything I did LOL The queue can be very long for weekend. Please do make reservation in advance! Parking is available.

Nestled between the hills and the forest, this place is constructed on a hillside with dining areas spread over multiple levels and overlooking a beautiful farmland below. reaching this place was very easy from the winding road known as Route 1081. there are few cleared areas used for car parking which is free. Food was fresh, tasty, and very reasonably priced. Staff were very polite and service was very quick. Worth visiting and highly recommended.

Nestled in a charming old house, N. Nan Café is a delightful coffee shop that doubles as its own micro roastery, specializing in award-winning beans sourced from the region of Nan. The café exudes a warm and rustic ambiance, making it an inviting spot for coffee lovers to unwind. While seating may be limited, visiting during the morning or early evening ensures a more relaxed experience without large crowds.
A coffee shop in an old house. The owner runs their own coffee roastery, using coffee beans from Nan. The coffee beans have won several national awards. The shop has an old, warm house tone. Seating may not be plentiful, but if you come in the morning or early evening, it’s not too crowded. There is a kitten in the shop that plays with customers all the time. Overall, it's a recommended coffee shop for coffee enthusiasts.

Lovely Local Coffee Place, which is also the micro roaster. Nice Ambience. Good Hospitality. Great Beans Selections. Love the signature orange cold brew w/ honey, just right not too sweet. I also ordered a medium-dark roast for a Hot americano, which also good but the body is a bit too thin for my liking.

Went in to grab a coffee to refuel for the day and it turned out to be one of the day’s best decision made. Simple and rustic vibes with quite a fancy coffee menu - from nitro coffee to orange tonic. Classics like Americano, latte etc are also available. Ordered the orange tonic and latte, ❤️ it. Didn’t see any food menu available though and desserts were little. Might be better to head over after a meal !

Huan Phuka Restaurant is a charming eatery adorned with an abundance of foliage, creating an ambiance reminiscent of dining in a lush garden. The establishment offers an impressive array of local fare, making it a preferred choice among locals seeking authentic Northern cuisine. Patrons have raved about the delightful flavors found here, with particular praise given to the delectable Nin fish dish known as Phu Kam yao. Despite busy hours, the service remains efficient and prompt, further enhancing the overall dining experience.
An amazing restaurant in this area, they serve the most popular and delicious food.. the music is perfect, the art works are stunning and the atmosphere is what you need after a long day of touring around. Luckily, since we were only two of us, we got a table right away without having to wait. Restaurant
Gin Restaurant is an incredibly enjoyable dining establishment that offers a wide array of delectable dishes from various cuisines such as Western, Thai, and Northern Thai. Each plate showcases a unique blend of flavors and is skillfully prepared. The pricing for the entire meal is reasonable, and the overall experience leaves diners completely satisfied. Notably, their northern pork curry stands out with its velvety consistency and harmonious combination of tastes.
Beautiful restaurant for lunch or a romantic evening meal for 2! We came for lunch the atmosphere is modern, jazzy and calm. The food is delicious and a mix of western and Thai. We tried the Tom Yum, pepper beef and carbonara pasta! It was all delicious and served with a welcoming smile 😃

This place was recommended to me by a friend and I was not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. First the persons working there are courteous and smiling. Then the food was very good and you can feel the chef is experienced. The soft shell crab salad was absolutely delicious and the duck breast perfectly balanced. Definitely a place i will now recommend too.

The place looks like bar / restaurant , despite the looks, they delivers on the food. The curry crab is full of flavour and spicy. The soup and vegetables are well cooked and taste good . Nice place to dine in

I could say very delicious to this restaurant. All dishes were wonderful with good cooking. Thank you Chef for adapting the beef curry and made it tasty. I also liked fried mushroom and prawn with garlic. The staffs were very nice with service mind. I would come back for the next trip to Nan. PS. Craft soda was good.

I cannot say anything about the food. Except that the menu looks good. I just stopped in the afternoon to have a glass of wine. Something that’s not easy to find in Nan. They have several bottles. But by glass it’s only red. So I had a glass of Shiraz. The owner is very talkative and nice. Very interested in his customers. I will definitely be back next time and try their food. And a bottle of white wine.

Very tasty restaurant with a diverse selection of western, Thai, and northern Thai dishes. Each dish has a unique taste and is well prepared. The entire meal was decently priced and very satisfying. The northern pork curry was particularly good as it was smooth and had a mix of flavors. The pasta was also delicious with cheesy texture.

As Italian I cannot suggest pizza. The pasta was good is you don't mind the different taste of the tomato sauce here in Thailand. Excellent the quesadillas and very tasty the grilled pork chop as well the other Thai dishes. Good service and nice atmosphere.

Nice restaurant, good vibes, with high variety of Thai & western dishes, cocktail are cheap btw. The only reason led me lower the * to 3* is somehow I think it’s a bit overrated in terms of Thai dish. Frankly, it’s nothing wrong with this dishes in terms of food quality & presentation. The food are good if u don’t tel me they are Thai dishes indeed. It could be a very subjective feeling, but at least to the 3 of us, the food taste are too light, not taste like local Thai food, but feel like having westernizes Thai dishes in overseas.
