Parks
Nong Prajak Park is a picturesque park featuring a serene lake, walking trails, a BMX track, and outdoor exercise equipment. Visitors can also enjoy the sight of giant inflatable ducks floating on the water. Exploring the local culture and history can make for a positive impression when visiting this Thai destination. Showing interest in traditions and folklore can demonstrate cultural sensitivity and open-mindedness, which may be appreciated by locals.
One of my most favorite public parks in whole Thailand and way better than even many Bangkok parks. So large, so multifunctional, so picturesque, so well maintained!
V K — Google review
One of the nicer parks I have seen in the country. Good that it has a theme. However needs more trees for shade in the late afternoon. Gets quite sunny. Park facilities are basic. If only there is a jogging-friendly connection link to the other parks nearby ...

Best Park in Udon Thani – Great for Everyone! This is hands down the best park in Udon! The atmosphere is amazing — peaceful, green, and full of life. You'll find people of all ages enjoying different activities here: from cycling, jogging, and football to group dance practices and more. There are exercise machines available for free, making it a great spot to work out. If you're just looking to relax, you can sit by the water and enjoy the cool breeze — it's incredibly refreshing. The park is also very family-friendly. There's a separate, safe area with swings and playgrounds just for kids, so parents can relax while their children play. What makes it even better is that there are cafes and restaurants nearby, so you can grab a coffee or a bite to eat before or after your visit. Overall, it’s a perfect place to chill, exercise, or spend time with friends and family. Highly recommended for locals and visitors!!!
Maninder S — Google review
I love this park. I walk around the lake every day and feel relaxed while getting some exercise. Its beautifully maintained. It has both bike and jogging lanes. Its teaming with wildlife from fish in the lake to turtles and frogs. A very pleasant place to walk or bike around.

We love to come to Nong Prajak Park! There are so many ways you can spend your time here. The sunset over the lake is beautiful. We love to walk or bike around the park on the paths. Our kids love the vast array of playgrounds and work-out equipment. The bridges are fun and pretty.
Katie C — Google review
Really nice clean park in the centre of the city. Gardens are very well maintained. Has cycle and walking paths connecting all of the islands. Good place to go for a stroll and relax for a few hours with children. Bicycles can be rented nearby for cheap prices. There's a stall selling food to feed the birds and fish in the lake.
Wayne 8 — Google review
Tranquil lake with the famous Udon Thani ducks, although on our visit in early march they had been removed from the water to the lakeside - still a great photo op. At normal walking speed you can walk around the lake in around 1-hour, there's also option to jog and a dedicated cycle lane. Lots of food, drink, manicure and massage options around the perimeter. If you visit it in a weekend evening, you can combine with a visit to the large Udon Thani Weekend Night Market, with a huge variety of food, drink, new & vintage clothing, electronics etc.
Paul E — Google review
Great place to chill. It’s huge with lots of spot to unwind and relax. They have nice suspension bridges too which is very perfect for walking and photo ops. I love this park.

Phu Phra Bat Historical Park is a captivating site featuring unique rock formations, ancient drawings, and sacred shrines. This historical park in Udon Province is easily accessible from Nong Khai and draws numerous Thai and international visitors annually. Notable attractions within the vicinity include Sala Keaw Khu sculpture park, the revered Luang Por Phra Sai Buddha Image, and the vibrant Thai-Lao Indochina Market known as Tha Sadet Market.
Beautiful historical park with diffrent trails for waking and different rock formations to see. Some of which have ancient paintings. At the entrance, there's plenty of parking and public toilets. The parking guard was very friendly. I would go again and explore more if I can.
Maitte C — Google review
This was our last stop on our family’s long weekend to Thailand, and it was easily my favorite. I was looking to fill a gap before going back to Laos. But this was one of the cleanest, well kept parks I’ve been to in Isaan. Only an hour from Nong Khai. We got there at 3:30 and it closes at 4:30. They were nice enough to give us an extra 30 minutes at the front desk. We hustled and still managed to see 19 out of the 27 landmarks. Leave yourself 3 hours to not feel rushed.
Dr. Q — Google review
A little slippery when it has been rainy but worth the effort! Stunning rock formations and prehistoric hand paintings. Beautiful walk and helpful guides at various points. If elderly or disabled they will take you on a golf cart to get closer to the natural sites and ancient ruins.
Laura O — Google review
When I arrived at the entrance office and purchased the entry ticket, a guide was allocated to me and provided with a detailed map of the area. If you are not keen on walking too much, they also provide electric buggies to reach the main area. But walking is essential if you want to visit other areas within the park. Short after entering this Unesco World Heritage site, you feel like you have entered to an ancient world with unusual rock formations created by erosions occurred millions of years ago. Although some of the paintings on the rocks are faded but can best be seen where some rocks have formed a natural shelter. Around these rocks, there are religious shrines with mostly Buddhist influence. You can see Sīma stones which are boundary markers for sacred areas of Buddhist activities. It is believed that this area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, about 2,500 to 3,000 years ago. My guide (Supannee) was very professional, knowledgeable and patient. She was very kind and took time to explain me details and history of various sites

A perfect afternoon/evening walk until closing, chill lil hike in the rainforest, if ure lucky, they bring u a bit indide ;) All ages, bring water and a hat.

Excellent archeological UNESCO site, well worth a visit. I had a cab take me out there from Nong Khai and wait, whilst I walked around by myself (organised by my hostel). The taxi was 1800 Baht flat fee for one person, or 2000 for three people (negotiable). I left at 9am and arrived back in Nong Khai by 1:30pm. The taxi was definitely worth the money. 400 baht p/h for transport and a driver is standard, with fuel included. Mr Winai also drove me to Udon Thani airport. He’s reliable and punctual, but doesn’t speak English. I would not recommend going by scooter as it is too far (60km and about a 2 hr ride), and online maps will probably not work out there. The site opens at 8:30, and I am glad I got there in the morning. This is not a place to visit on a really hot day (over 35), or in the afternoon. It is a not a busy tourist site. The walk around is easy (some stairs), but not wheelchair accessible. Kids over 5 would be fine. Plenty of signage and staff around, and you get a map with your 100 baht entry fee. Give yourself 2-3 hours, more if you want to go to the viewing platform, or walk the entire park. The little restaurant on the side of the carpark has noodles for 50 baht (with an English menu), which is where I stopped and had a nice lunch after the walk.

This is a significant historical and religious site in Udon Thani, known for its natural beauty and spiritual importance. 🅿️ The parking area is spacious, making it easy to visit even on busy days. 📍 A new information center is clean, well-managed, and provides clear brochures, maps, and helpful guidance — all for just 20 THB per person. 🚘 There are golf carts available for elderly visitors, which is a thoughtful touch. 🌿 The entire site is very well maintained, with clean walking paths and detailed signs at each point of interest. 🪨 The rock formations at Phu Phra Bat are impressive and awe-inspiring. Every area is clean, accessible, and clearly marked. 🪑 Benches are placed thoughtfully along the walking route, perfect for those who need a break. The benches are new and very clean, adding to the comfort of the visit. ☀️ Best enjoyed on a clear weather day to fully appreciate the natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere.

Red Lotus Lake Kumphawapi

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Red Lotus Lake Kumphawapi, located 60km from Udon Thani airport, is a popular destination for morning boat tours to admire the blooming pink water lilies. The best time to visit is from November to February between 6:00 am and 10:30 am. It's a picturesque spot that offers serene views of nature.
We visited in early January, and the red lotuses were in full bloom — truly breathtaking, especially at sunrise. This might be the most beautiful lotus lake we’ve ever seen. 🌸 Tips for visitors: Make sure to check the blooming season before you go. The lotuses typically bloom in the cool season (around November to February). Outside of this period, there might not be much to see. There is a ticket booth near the pier where you can choose from various boat types depending on your group size. For the best experience, visit early in the morning during winter — the weather is cool, the sunrise is stunning, and you’ll be surrounded by blooming lotuses, gentle mist, and the sound of birds. It’s a peaceful and unforgettable nature experience — absolutely worth the early wake-up.
K T — Google review
The atmosphere was good. When we came, the weather was good, the sky was overcast, not too hot. We arrived in the morning, there weren't many people yet. You can feed the elephants and various animals. There is a restaurant, coffee, and activities to do, you can easily spend time here at least 1-3 hrs including lunchtime. Recommend coming when the weather isn't too hot. On weekend afternoons, there are a lot of people. Have a goo day all 😊🌠
Sili Z — Google review
Visited on October 28th. Mostly sunny sky, beautiful weather. I parked in front of the ticket office at 7:40. There are also toilets. To see the red lilies you need to take a boat. Small boat for 2 persons 300B, boat up to 6 persons 500B. When i gave the 300B, the nice lady at the cashier returned me 100B, maybe because i was alone. A very honest behaviour, unusual in the tourism business. The boat ride to the area where lilies are took about 10 minutes at a relaxed pace Then the boat man entered slowly and respectfully of the water plants inside the lilies. When we stopped the boat and the silence surrounded us, it was magical. Around us thousands of red water lilies (although not as many as in the peak season), and many water birds and swallows chirping. The trip took almost an hour. Very impressed by nature and people here. Some Thai people at the dock even invited me for breakfast.

I visited in March which was not the season, but the Red Lotus Lake was on my bucket list. We rented a big boat for 500 baht. He took us out to several spots, and even stopped at the temple on the island. The lake was absolutely beautiful and tranquil. I enjoyed beautiful pink lotus, watching birds, and water buffalos. I recommend it for nature lovers.
Nik S — Google review
Small boat for up to 2 people - 300 Baht. Big Boat for up to 6 people - 500 Baht. It's very very beautiful to visit during Seasonal Period between December to January. The Ride is about One Hour. I did not regret travelling so far to see this amazing red lotus lake. Advice to Arrive there in the Early Morning before 0800 to avoid the strong sun and crowd.
Win Z — Google review
The sheer variety and beauty of the birds here is astounding! Their antics were absolutely hilarious – frantic food hunts, comical escapes from our boat, and the sheer chaos of their running retreats. And the lake? A perfect mirror reflecting it all. A truly delightful experience!
Юлия Т — Google review
Me and my girlfriend passed by Khumphawapi in wrong (dry) season so boat rides on the lake were closed. However we still found some beautiful lotuses along the road around the lake and walking in the fields

Every season has different lotus flowers, grab a boat and enjoy, you can have a bit dining too. Will come back 😊

Specialty Museums
The Udon Thani City Museum is located in a beautifully preserved two-story building with western classical architecture, adapted for Thailand's tropical climate. The museum features 26 rooms showcasing various exhibitions related to the province's history, archaeology, natural history, geology, local history, art, culture, and traditions. Housed in a 1920s colonial-style building that was once a girls' school, the museum offers an intriguing collection covering diverse subjects from geology to provincial arts and culture.
I've been waiting for visit to this museum since it was being built over Covid period and am truly impressed with the great job done by its organizers both on construction, decoration and museum sides! Absolutely lovely, 100% informative exhibition with 100% bilingual narrative, a lot if interactive features, total air-conditioning, yet the charm of old school and then provincial administrative building is totally preserved. Well done the city of Udon Thani, thank you very much! I absolutely recommend all visitors to Udon Thani to pay a visit there, especially after lovely walk around the nearby lake and beautiful Nong Prachak park.
V K — Google review
A broad spread of the history of Udon Thani and the region. Early exhibits are only in Thai but as you move through more have a Thai and English explanation. A strong focus on the growth of Udon over the past 150 years. Worth a visit.
David A — Google review
Free for everyone, the museum is very nice. Easily to access for everyone including wheelchair users. Multiple interactive points for children are really nice and interesting. Very warm welcome from all staff. Definitely, we will recommend this place to our friends and family. If we could have a chance, we will certainly be back to visit again soon. Really nice and joy with my family there!
Lily C — Google review
This place is beyond my expectation! Usually the city museum is not well maintain or old but not this place. The staff did the great job and the exhibition is interesting. Not saying that this is the best museum in Thailand but this make me rank Udon Thani top in my heart.
Tanat L — Google review
You can visit this museum at no charge, FREE. Just register at the building next to it. It’s nice and informative and I’m amazed with the variety of display. Definitely a must go if you are in town.
Roel A — Google review
It's a well-organized museum that offers an informative and concise look at Udon Thani's past, making it a worthwhile stop for those interested in local heritage. It's free.
Prang C — Google review
This is a really interesting museum if you want to learn about Udon Thani and the city's role in the history of the entire country. Udon Thani might be a small city and does not get a lot of tourist attention, but it played an important role in the Siam empire. This museum is well curated and the layout is easy to navigate. The pieces they have on display are unique and most have English descriptions. We spent over an hour and learned a lot about the city, its people and the Thai nation. Free to visit and has plenty of parking.
Belle — Google review
Free to visit museum. Apart from a piece on the ending of the Vietnam conflict, all the audio and audio/visual presentations are in Thai. However, written descriptions are in both Thai and English throughout the museum. There's quite a bit to see here on two floors, and you just follow the one-way route. You have the geological history of the Isan area described at the start. Udon Thani actually means Northern Town. It is interesting to learn about the history of Udon Thani and how it came into existence. I was particularly interested in the influence American had in Udon, resulting from the establishment of military bases in the area. It affected the region both culturally and economically as personnel needed a variety of facilities and services from the local communities. This impact carried forward into the Cold War era where Thai & American governments worked together in deterring the spread of communism in Asia. If you are Thai or understand Thai language, you can pick up a card at reception, which you can use to activate the audio/visual elements of the museum.

Phu Foi Lom National Park is an expansive ecotourism destination designed to preserve rare flora and fauna. Visitors can wander through vibrant gardens, explore various trails, and admire picturesque landscapes. The park also features dinosaur statues and offers picnic areas. While the visitor center may be closed, the park provides a free and accessible retreat from urban life. Located near Khon Kaen and Udon Thani, it offers easy access for a day trip or weekend getaway.
1st time, camping alone of my life. Quiet place, also just have what you need for camping. Toilet are good and clean but no flush toilet just classic one. I meet new friends here. Good to visit on Nov-Jan.
Sarawut P — Google review
Very nice park near Udon. Foreigner price 100b but they allowed me in for 20b because flowers not yet in full bloom. January will be the best time to see the beautiful flowers in bloom. Still lots of nice flowers and insects at this time in October.
Thai T — Google review
Lovely park with nice long walks, great viewpoints and beautiful gardens. Watch out for the dinosaurs! The place had lots of facilities although it is a bit tired and in need of some maintenance. The signposting could be better on the upper parts where the temple and the walks are.
Peter M — Google review
I couldn't believe this place was free to visit, the only negative was the visitor centre was closed and no information or leaflets available to provide a plan of the area. The signposted viewpoint is actually not the best viewpoint; carry on up the road from the main site to find the best views. There is a Caffè and Toilets in the Park. I think many Thai people come for the beautiful flowers and to have their photos taken with the flowers. It looks like you can camp for free on the site, could see an office where you would pay.
Miles M — Google review
Love this park. Everything is well taken care of and looks so beautiful ❤️
Ferxo C — Google review
Beautiful gardens This is one of the many places you can incorporate into a day trip around the Udon Thani area. Probably an hours drive from town and is about 600m above sea level. The garden areas are not massive but there's enough there to be worth a visit. The arrangements are very nice and colourful. The place is kept tidy and clean. Maybe a morning visit would better as in the afternoon it's quite hot and not as enjoyable.
Frank T — Google review
One of my favourite places not too far away from civilization - easy to reach from Khon Kaen and Udon Thani. Free entrance which these days is a rare find. A convenient drive up to the National park station and good paths up the mountain not too difficult even for the elderly, yet still natural. The temperature up on the mountain tends to be much cooler than down in the plains even though it isn't really that high at just some 600+ meters.

Beatyfull calm Place. Nice for stroll. Maybe better to go in Mainsaison, because there more Flowers grow and everthing would be open. I was in Rainseason

The Ban Chiang National Museum in Udon Thani is a captivating attraction that brings the history of the region to life. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it holds great significance as one of Southeast Asia's most important settlements. Visitors can explore ancient tools, pottery, jewelry, and dioramas that provide insight into early wet-rice agriculture and metalwork.
It was New Year's Day, so we were able to enter for free. I was impressed that the design of the excavated vases was still clearly visible. There was a QR code that could be translated into about six languages, which was very fun. I bought a shirt and a key chain with a vases design as souvenirs.
Poporon 2 — Google review
This museum chronicles a remarkable episode in twentieth century archaeology. In this village in the late 1960s villagers uncovered beautiful pots with red on buff designs. These were evidence of a hitherto unsuspected Bronze Age culture in South East Asia. The museum covers the extraordinary bronze and pottery found nds made at the site. Entrance costs 150 baht.

1-hr driving from Udon Thani city. The place is well-maintained and clean. They exhibit ancient artifacts from excavation with some historical hypothesis. Apart from that, there is nothing much (~1 hr walking around). There is a white lotus temple that you should also visit (10 min drive). Replicant pot painting is also enjoyable.

The excavation was started in the 70's and King Bumiphol was there to witness the excavation and all documented in the museum with audio visual as well. Tickets priced at 50 baht for locals and 150 baht for foreigners. The Museum closes at 4.00 pm.

Interesting museum. Extremely well preserved jars and other precious metals. We learnt a lot about history of this region of Thailand. It is about 45min from Udon Thani. Highly recommend if you are curious about history and conservation.

Highly rated museum with internationally validated information that was fun to walk around. The staff was helpful and eager to share insights. There is an audio tour and a video to provide additional background and context. The pottery and burial sites of the prehistoric people who lived here thousands of years ago are extremely significant archeological and anthropological findings on a global scale. To understand the impact of these findings in Southeast Asia, and Thailand in particular, is fascinating and wonderful. The ticket cost was 150B for foreigners and 30B for Thais. It's a UNESCO site.

Wat Pa Ban Tat, also known as Wat Khaek, is a serene Buddhist monastery located in the forested area south of Udon Thani city. Established by the renowned Thai monk Luang Ta Maha Bua, this small temple is well-preserved and protected by a concrete wall. It offers an ideal setting for Buddhist history enthusiasts to enhance their knowledge while being surrounded by nature.
This is a temple that everyone will be happy to visit as it is spread over a large area. Everything here is nice, clean and tidy, which is certainly not a given. At the entrance there is a museum, and it is possible to borrow umbrellas for use during the tour if you feel like it. To visit the place, you have to take the starting point in the parking lot, as there is no access from the other side. The parking space is huge, and should accommodate everyone who may come to visit.

Very good Wat. The museum was a highlight. The building are amazing, the attention to details is fantastic. Something I really like. If choosing between places to go and you like to be educated a little then this might be the place for you

A beautiful Buddhist temple dedicated to someone of great national importance to Thailand and its people. A huge site, a tranquil setting, and the opportunity to learn more about the life of Luang Ta Maha Bua.

This is a Theravada Buddhist monastery, Thai Forest Tradition was built in 1955, located in the udon thani, Thailand. Ajahn Maha Bua, a Thai meditator is the founder.
Jerry N — Google review
A beautiful Temple on a beautiful site surrounded by a moat. I hadn't realised that there is also a large museum on the same site but it's closed on Mondays. There are big car parks on either side of the Temple site so I expect this place is very popular during Buddhist celebrations/festivals. Do also visit the opened sided assembly hall seperate to the island next to the main car park. There is the structure for many stalls along one side of the car park but it was very quiet today, not many visitors. Temple is free to visit, just sign your name and where you're from. Shoes must be taken off and put on racks at the entrance to the site.
Miles M — Google review
This forest monastery has a long history of community centric activities. Way back during the 1997 Asian currency crisis its famous abbot rallied support for the Thai economy via donations. Even today the temple features such activities as free health services incl. traditional Thai medicine and massage. People around offer free food and drinks for the visitors. Unlike many other popular places there is no hussle for donations and no commercial interest. Very friendly and welcoming.
Rene P — Google review
The architecture is really beautiful, especially the woodwork. We need to wear properly or they will give you a long skirt. It's hot here as no tree along the road. So umbrella/hat/sunglasses are recommended.
CakeoJolie — Google review
A very beautiful place to visit. Regardless of religion, this place gives you a feel of peace and quiet. Moderate crowd and able to keep safe distancing. Really worth visiting especially for those who loves to take pictures. The black and white combo give a very good contrast. Do not worry on walking around without shoes, the marbles used for flooring are fabulous as you do not feel the heat during noon.

Very nice Chinese village. Beautifully set-up and well maintained. There are a few shops selling typical traditional Chinese style products and tea.

Lovley way to spend an hour, admiring the Chinese designs if the buildings, learning about it's inauguration by the Thai Princess and learning about how the areas Chinese population first arrived and prospered in the area. There's also fish food on sale to feed the many many large Koi in the large central pond which runs through the complex. There's Chinese crafts for sale + two Resturant/ food options.

Just a place to understand a brief history of the Chinese. Just a hall that explained the history If you have visited China, Taiwan, Malaysia or Singapore you see bigger better landscaping. But still worth to pay a visit as is FREE entry. No much visitors Best time will be when they hold celebrations or events. Lion and Dragon will dance along with drum beating 7th August 2025

Beautiful place in every way. Feels like walking in a Chinese garden. Free to enter. I would recommend to go here and experience this wonderful place and its tranquility in the middle of a busy city. The place is also close to their lakes and parks so if you are here might as well stop by some more locations

In my opinion, city's best cultural, historical and sightseeing landmark, a must to visit forever tourist while in Ubon. Plenty of beautiful views, photo opportunities, greenery and of course carefully preserved historical knowledge about local Chinese-originating community.

This shrine is not only a spiritual center, but also a part of the Thai-Chinese Cultural Center, making it one of the most meaningful and well-preserved cultural sites in the area. ⛩️ The shrine is decorated in elegant Chinese style, clean, well-organized, and full of cultural charm. 🌳 A public park next door adds to the relaxing atmosphere. 🙏 Visitors can enjoy various activities such as paying respects at the shrine, buying traditional tea, or feeding the colorful koi fish in the large pond surrounding the grounds. A peaceful and beautiful place to visit — ideal for both cultural appreciation and quiet relaxation.

The architecture is stunning, blending traditional Chinese elements with Thai influence, creating a peaceful space perfect for a relaxed walk and learning. You’ll find a Confucius shrine, Chinese garden, and historical exhibitions that tell the story of Chinese immigrants in Udon Thani. The Chinese garden is a real highlight, with koi ponds, bonsai trees, and photo-worthy bridges.

Wat Pothisomphon is a 20th-century Buddhist temple complex located in the heart of the city. It stands out with its gilded central chedi, which offers a viewing platform for visitors to enjoy panoramic views of the surroundings. The architectural style here is unique, featuring dragon-like structures influenced by Laotian design. One of the main attractions is the stunning 21st-century pagoda that captivates all who visit.
Very beautiful temple with huge chedi. Nice temple area to walk around and it’s even possible to go to the top of the chedi and get a nice overview of the temple grounds and surrounding areas. Absolute a must visit temple here in Udon Thani in my opinion

Beautiful, clean and quiet temple. We came when there was an event on the main hall so we just went around the other side where there was not people at all. The buildings are all well maintained. It was just recently repainted and the gold/red paint are perfect combination of classy and regal. The grounds are also clean and there's a lot of trees and plants. Worth the short visit.

The Temple grounds cover a large area and include many attractive buildings, but the centre piece is the beautiful Pagoda. You can climb the steps of the Pagoda where there are galleries on two levels. It's worth going upto the 2nd level for the best view of the whole site. Plenty of space for parking and free to visit. I noticed that apart from buildings like the Ordination and Assembly Halls which unfortunately were closed for access, there is also a funary building complete with Crematoria.

The Wat looks so majestic with the Naga lining the stairs. You can climb to the top that gives you a commanding view of the compound. There are 3 floors where you can enter the temple to pray. On the 3rd floor, the mural on the wall is beautiful. You will have removed your shoes to enter. After the temple visit, you can walk over to the Nong Prajak Park, which is across the road.

Close to the city. Very famous temple and kept in the Thai Buddhist traditions. There are many famous monks who have stayed here. Beautiful Chedi that has 3 levels and statues of monks. The top level is for meditation. Not a tourist attraction but a real indication of what being a true monk and Buddhist is about. It is free and doesn't have people trying to sell you things free entry

Beautiful Thai temples Located in the middle of the city there's a few sights to see in this area. Not to mention the lake with large inflatable ducks. It's the normal standard beautiful Thai temples you see everywhere. Probably a good idea to go early because it gets so hot. A little tip is if you take the tram card city tour from Central plaza around Udon Thani it takes you here with a 20 min break. These tours depart 11:30am and 2:30 pm from memory.

The Irish Clock is a charming Irish pub that offers a delightful selection of English breakfasts, fish and chips, meat pies, and cold Guinness on draft. It's also a great spot to catch Premier League matches on the widescreen. If you're in the mood for pizza, there's a nearby hole-in-the-wall called Little Italian that serves excellent pizza and salad. For those craving burgers or grilled salmon, Chefs Table is just around the corner.
Travelling Aussies 🇳🇿 Loved our dinner & drinks at this great venue 🍺 We found this lovely Irish pub to be a welcome respite from local food centres and street carts Our beers were ice cold and served in distinctive coolers while our cocktails were very well prepared and tasted great 🍹 We loved the potato croquettes, bangers n mash and the pineapple fried rice 🏆 Very clean, with modern facilities, I recommend this awesome restaurant / pub to everyone 👍

I can only comment on the food, service and drinks as we haven't stayed in there rooms. We absolutely loved the food. It's always good to get a nice but of British/Irish grub after weeks of spicy Thai food. The pies and breakfast choices are good and very tasty. We enjoyed the cocktails which were done by a friendly lady and the service from a delight of a girl called Preaow who is also really funny. It's located in a busy area so you can sit outside and watch the world go by. Well worth a visit fit drink and food.

Stayed here for 3 nights in June 2024, as have stayed here before. The room was large and looked OK. But, the TV didn't work, I enquired and was told the satellite dish was faulty, they didn't know when it would be repaired, not a deal breaker, but you need something to do whilst preparing to go out. The toilet roll holder in the bathroom kept falling off the wall whenever you pulled the paper, the safe didn't work electronically, I asked the cleaner (as I was instructed to by other staff) and she said that a key could be used, I mean would you?? Knowing there must be more keys out there?? The breakfast waitress who took the orders, found it difficult to either smile, or to be enthusiastic. I tried engaging her in conversation, but she just couldn't be bothered, just looked very bored all the time, unless she was on her phone of course. You'd think more effort could be made. The cleaner used 'Our' water to replenish, rather than the hotels, and didn't replace the tea bags used. An electrician decided to start drilling at 6.30am..... There never seemed to be any customers in the restaurant / bar..... I wonder why. The only positive, was the charming lady with the glasses who I first met when I arrived. She was a real positive, very smiley, and helpful. A true positive amongst negatives, didn't get her name. The breakfast was OK the first time, but seemed old, tough and possibly reheated the second time. All in all, I won't go again.

If you find yourself wandering through Udon Thani City, a culinary gem awaits at VT Namnueng Vietnamese Restaurant. Nestled on the west side of town, this bustling eatery is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Vietnamese flavors. The restaurant specializes in an array of dishes that showcase the rich heritage of the local Vietnamese community, which has thrived here since World War II.
02-26-24 Ordered 7 dishes altogether. All were yummy delicious! Enjoyed the variety of sauces and fresh veggies. In addition to the food, we had a big bottle of Singha and water, total $28.71. Felt as though it was all-you-can-eat. Service: Fast and attentive Easy parking. This place is huge! Must try if you are in the area.

Original-style Nam Nueng: fresh, clean, and perfectly balanced in flavor. The vegetables and side dishes are of excellent quality, complemented by a signature dipping sauce that’s uniquely flavorful. The menu also offers a variety of other Vietnamese dishes, such as fresh spring rolls, shrimp wrapped in sugarcane, and pho. The restaurant features a simple, clean, and inviting atmosphere, making it perfect for meals with family or friends. Service is quick and friendly.

It used to be good, but after COVID, everything’s gone downhill. The food quality has tanked—the rice paper even had this acidic taste like it was about to spoil. It’s a real pity since this was our family’s go-to spot. But what’s worse is the staff (especially the girls). They couldn’t care less about service, acting like they know they’re not getting tips, so why should they bother? It’s just sad.

Traditional "namnueng" is originally Vietnamese dish, slightly adapted for Thai taste and become very popular among Thai people. It largely available all around Thailand, especially in North-East region. But only few "brands" of this dish become famous, and "VT Namnueng" is one of them. Set with 5 "sausages" is big enough for 2 people, but we also ordered crispy pork. Everything goes with plenty of fresh herbs/vegetables and 2 types of sauce (sweet-spicy and just sweet). The service is fast, staff is friendly. The food is superb 😄 Do not miss this place when visiting Udon!

Great Vietnamese restaurant in Udon Thani. The restaurant itself is light and airy, with high ceilings. Service is excellent and though it is a relatively small menu, the food is good. I dined with large group of (mostly) Vietnamese and they all loved the food! The only surprise was the bill, which was much less than I thought it would be, coming out at around 250b per person.

A hidden gem in Udon Thani! We were pampered with a Thanksgiving set dinner (s. photo) with a great selection of dishes, plentiful portions (we ordered just one set for two of us and went out full!). Service was excellent and it felt like home with wonderful music vibes and coming Christmas feeling. All this for a very reasonable price. Thank you. All stars fairly earned.

Jerome M — Google review
I had dinner here a few times. It's definitely among the best restaurants in town. "Five star" food at normal prices. In that sense, it's quite affordable. They could probably have better wine to go with the food. But I don't know how that works out pricewise. Chef seems like a nice guy :)

Nice little restaurant in the middle of town. Last time I came to Udon Thani there was a party and I couldn't try the restaurant. This time I was glad to try the food. The place is cozy and has a relaxing vibe. The food tasted great and many of the dishes are not as easy to find here. I tried the lamb and it was cooked well with a nice brown sauce. The crab cakes had a great mixture of flavors. I would recommend it if you want a nice place to have dinner or take a date. They do serve some Thai food as well.

This was our 2nd visit. We had been very impressed by the quality of food and service on the 1st visit and decided to go for a light snack mid afternoon. It happened to be ‘ thanksgiving ‘ and there was a special set menu. We were drawn to the 4 course menu and ordered it. (So much for the light snack!) Again the quality and presentation of the 4 courses was outstanding. I would highly recommend dining at this restaurant as I’m sure that you will not be disappointed.

I had spaghetti alla bolognese, and my friend ordered onion soup for starter followed by penne alla carbonara. When ordering pasta, you can choose between four types (i.e., spaghetti, penne, fettuccine or squid ink), which is very nice. Then, the plate of pasta comes with a tasty piece of garlic bread on the side (only downside for me is that it is soft bread). Everything was nice. Maybe I slightly preferred the carbonara over the bolognese, but it might vary according to personal taste. A good option for fancy lunch or dinner in Udon, as it is indeed a little expensive. We didn’t try the desserts but they had various options that all seemed appetizing (crème brûlée, crêpe Suzette, tiramisu, waffle, etc.). They also serve Thai food.

Samuay & Sons

Asian restaurant
After a day filled with inspiration, I found myself at Samuay & Sons, an exceptional contemporary Isaan restaurant helmed by the talented chef Weerawat Triyasenawat. Since its inception in 2014, this culinary gem has been transforming traditional local cuisine into modern masterpieces that have garnered accolades from Asia's 50 Best and the Michelin Guide. The atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming, making it a hit not just among food enthusiasts but also with younger diners!
I got the 11-course tasting menu. I appreciated the fact that the chef personally explained each course to me including to address the sourcing of the ingredients. The passion with which he explained each dish (in English and in detail) was impressive and made me really excited about the food. The quality of the ingredients was excellent. And, the chef's preparation and technique were also excellent. Most of the dishes I loved. A few of the dishes I did not like, not because of any fault in preparation or ingredients, but because Isaan food (which is very different than typical Thai food) has such strong flavors that are frankly beyond my current palate. If you don't have much experience with Isaan food (like me) then IMO there's a risk that you wont like all of the dishes but my thinking is, what better place to experiment than with quality ingredients at the hand of an accomplished chef. The cost of the meal (more than 100 USD) was a bit surprising (especially in this region of Thailand) but when I saw how small the restaurant is it became clear that it's a very low volume operation such that lower prices would be unsustainable given the quality ingredients on a 11-course meal. Well worth it; a wonderful learning experience and meal.

We arrived in a Grab from Nong Khai, but couldn't get one on the way back! Krua Khun-Nid is a delightful Thai eatery that serves delectable dishes in the northern style. Some of their offerings may be unfamiliar, but many are scrumptious and reasonably priced. Their menu includes enticing options like som tham (papaya salad), sausage, minced pork with spicy sauce, and Tom yam mushrooms. Additionally, they have a small café inside where you can enjoy beverages such as café latte and mocha.
Krua Khun Nid offers the best, most authentic Isaan food. A large menu to choose from. People not familiar with local Isaan food and it's ingredients should seek guidance from local friends or family. You don't want to miss out on sampling such a variety of unique tasting foods that are healthy and easily digested. Pricing is very reasonable, certainly for the quality of the food. The staff is very attentive and offers quick service. Waiting time is reasonably short. The interior setting is quite old fashioned, but it's a place focused on good food and conversation. No disturbing background music.

Not so many years ago, this marvelous restaurant was a big, well- worn location whose existence was mostly supported by locals. Major interior design renovation turned the huge space into a compelling, comfortable, attractive setting, but the awesome food remained unchanged. In 2023, Michelin recognition was bestowed upon the establishment. The simple Vietnamese comfort food served here is of a superior quality, and this restaurant is a must visit if you are in UdonThani.

Good Everything

Restaurant
"Good Everything" is a fantastic spot for various experiences. The Center Point Night Market offers a great atmosphere for a date night, with live entertainment on weekends. A French-Italian restaurant serves exceptional dishes, including pumpkin soup and spaghetti khi mao. In Nong Prajac park, visitors can find a peaceful oasis with beautiful gardens and the opportunity to enjoy delicious food and good wine.
Our second time here, and we have been really impressed with the creativity, ingredients and flavours of the food (and the presentation). Although it is close to the road (there’s a private car park) the setting is delightful and the interior and exterior are lovingly decorated. The gardens are an absolute joy. Good Everything also make some excellent breads which are available to buy. And their cakes and tarts look delicious.

Service was great, place was cozy, steaks were the only weak point. They were cooked ok, I think the quality of the meat was just so so, no different than anywhere else. But we did try a homemade sour dough for Mother’s Day and that was great. The pineapple fried rice was good. The Cesar salad was good. Would go back.

Wonderful coffee shop and eatery. Good quality coffee tea and bakery items. Offers a full selection of meals. Can prepare food as you request for diet considerations. Excellent service and atmosphere is peaceful and well thought out. A perfect place to relax with friends or someone special.

This is a hidden gem. You will walk past it if you don't know. This place has a wonderful atmosphere and chilled vibe. The food is amazingly delicious 😋. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I ordered a full cost meal! Come with complimentary. Starters is garlic toasty on fresh bread, which is always welcome. Drink was an ice caramel espresso, which was beautifully present with a cinnamon stick and a rose. Salad was the good evening salads, presentation was outstanding 👌, love everything on the plate. Main is the lamb rack. It was juicy and delicious, needed little salt for my liking. Dessert was the apple crumble. It was ok. I don't really enjoy the bitterness, but the caramel ice cream was fantastic. Thank you, Chef Paw, for talking to me and giving me a complimentary dessert. Would be back next time.

Nice and cozy restaurant. It think it's good to visit during the day time, but it's good to visit during a night time, too. Foods are nice and the price is reasonable. They offer home-made pasta menus, too. But it was sold out when I visited. So, I didn't have a chance to try it. Steak and spaghetti carbonara were what we ordered. Dessert was nice, too.

I have gone to this restaurant off and on for the last ten or more years. Most recent visit was in March 2023. A friend insisted on meeting here for lunch. Over the years I've had bad service, good service, and so -so service. One thing that never changes is that it's an absolutely beautiful setting, always adorned with plenty of fresh flowers. My recent visit confirmed the reasons I stopped going to this restaurant. It is horrendously overpriced and the food isn't always worth that high surcharge. 150 baht for a hot caffe americano is an absolute joke. Who are they kidding to charge that kind of money? The apple tart and dessert which cost 250 bot was just okay...nothing special. The cafe was not very crowded and it's easy to understand why. I cannot recommend this establishment unless you simply want to go and experience the pleasant setting.

What an unexpected treasure this place is. Just around the corner from a busy hospital l was not expecting to see such a restaurant. A-little research on the footpath and l found myself sitting down in a very calm and fantastic spot on the balcony. The story to Good Everything is great and really does make your experience there with the ambiance and food that much more enjoyable. The food is absolutely outstanding and by far the best cuisine I’ve had in Udon. You can feel the love and care taken with each dish prepared. I’m so glad l found this place as early as l know that l’ll be coming back already again again. Very well priced for such fine cuisine. The quiche Lorraine was simply magical. Staff are super friendly and helpful.

Very good French-Italian cuisine restaurant. All we orders are great. The pumpkin soup was very nice. Highly recommend to try. French onion soup was also great but the portion is way to small. I ended up filling half of my stomach with the bread bowl. But the soup itself was just like 2 spoons. Spaghetti khi mao and pork chop were perfect. Tasty. Fresh ingredients. Watermelon kagikori is sooooo refreshing and cheap. Highly recommended to try. Overall I love this restaurant. Though quite pricy but it’s worth the taste and quality.

Udon Thani International Airport

Airport
Udon Thani International Airport is a small regional airport with efficient services. The check-in and baggage claim processes are quick, ensuring a smooth travel experience. While it's primarily a domestic airport, there are basic amenities available at reasonable Thai prices. The airport has three gates and offers assistance to monks with a dedicated resting area. Additionally, the airport has expanded its parking facilities to accommodate longer stays at affordable rates. Despite being busy with frequent flights, the airport maintains cleanliness and good facilities for travelers.
Small but efficient airport offering convenient access to the northeastern region of Thailand. The facilities are clean and well-organized, with basic amenities like cafes, souvenir shops, and car rental services. The staff are helpful, and the airport handles domestic and a few international flights smoothly. It’s easy to navigate, making it a stress-free experience for travelers.

Very busy lots of flights. It's a nice clean airport with good facilities. They have built more parking space for longer stays at lower prices. Flights are mostly delayed, so advice picks up drivers. It's a lot more busy now. Pick-ups can be harder as they move you on

Friendly, no fuss, all services available, ease of checking in. We were very graciously welcomed, checked in & helped by the check In staff st Vietjet counter. Assorted restaurants offering good & beverages. 3 ATMs on the floor.
Anil S — Google review
Vietjet ticket office has one lady staff that spoke very rudely and in a condensensing tone to me when I questioned the pricing of checking bags at the counter. Apparently there is a 4 hours before the flight requirement, according to her, to get regular check in prices. I could not find any such wording on their website. I was ok with the extra charge but not the bitchy attitude.

Has improved a lot over the last 5 years, spacious, food choice and sanitary.

Small airport, but gets the job done efficiently. Baggage claim was quick on arrival, and the toilets were clean and well-maintained. Smooth experience overall.

Cute airport located and catering Udon Thani Province. Well maintained and well kept airport. Staff are friendly, and all the airport processes are fast and quick. Located with convient acesss to city centre. Airport has all the required shops and restaurants and caters most of the country's national and international airlines/destinations.

Please noted that this is a domestic airport and no service if you wish to has your bags checked through to your final destination airport. Example. Singapore. You have you retrieve your items BKK domestic and check in at international counter again. Just make sure you have minimum 2-3 hours for your next flight. Udon is a modern airport with 3 gates. As usual the Thai people are very helpful. First time I noticed a special area for monk to rest.

Wattay International Airport

International airport
Wattay International Airport offers a convenient official taxi service just outside baggage claim for easy access to the town. The airport shops use USD for pricing, and credit card charges are in USD as well. The only payable lounge could benefit from clearer naming. Despite its small size, the airport is clean and efficient for arrivals and departures. Pre-clearance shops offer items priced in KIP, which can be cheaper compared to post-clearance shops with prices in USD.
Small airport but clean, fast service. Money exchger by the EXIT door BUT go out and make a left turn to have better rate. 2 exchangers . I choose the " Phongsavanh Bank". Loca or Indirve app Taxi will come to main entrance to pick you up.

This airport is not very large, but it handles international traffic reasonably well. 🛄 The organization and flow are acceptable, though not particularly impressive. 🛃 Basic facilities are available, but don't expect too much in terms of comfort or services. Tip: As of 2025, there is shuttle bus from/to Talad Sao, center of the town , only 40k Kip.

less than 10 mins from downtown. good checkin for air Asia but Lao airlines was long. early AM flight didn’t have passport control open until 90 mins before departure. u won’t go hungry here but quality is mediocre. passport and security control were fine. many people throwing away vapes as they are not allowed in carry on. coffee was good at both eateries I tried. not gonna win any awards but there are many many worse airports in asia. overall it’s satisfactory.

VTE is honestly one of the dirtiest airports I’ve ever been to. There were cleaning staff around, but most of them were just sitting around doing nothing while trash piled up. Floors were visibly dirty, with plastic, bottles, and waste scattered throughout the terminal. For an international airport, this should be a serious embarrassment. The facility clearly needs better management and accountability when it comes to cleanliness.
Jr M — Google review
Very basic and small airport but pretty efficient due to the low volume of flights. You can use KokKok app to get a taxi or take a bus, but if you are brave just walk. It's a straight road with many coffee shops on the way. It should take you around an hour (around 6 kms).
Sharon S — Google review
Surprised there’s no free WiFi at this small airport—feels outdated in this day and age. Thankfully, having access to the airport lounge made a big difference. On the plus side, arriving here, the exchange rate here is decent, and it’s convenient to buy a SIM card right at the airport (good deals )
P P — Google review
A good small airport, just a 15-minute drive from the city center—very convenient. Check-in and immigration were quick and smooth, which made the whole experience stress-free. There are a few shops in the duty-free area, though prices are a bit on the higher side. One downside is that there's no Wi-Fi available. Overall, a decent airport for a short and efficient travel experience.
Ella B — Google review
It’s not one star because the guy organising the taxis was far too helpful, but the security is troublesome and customs only there to collect money from foreigners, no wifi and poor seating and toilets. One of the worst and a perfect home for Lao Airlines.
