Nature & Parks
Nature & Wildlife Areas
De Weerribben-Wieden National Park is an expansive and unique area shaped by centuries of peat harvesting, making it the largest bog region in northwest Europe. It features a diverse landscape of lakes, waterways, marshes, and reedlands that were largely created by early settlers. The park is home to a variety of rare fauna such as otters, green hawker dragonflies, and large copper butterflies.
We hired an electric boat, at a park called "the weerribben the Kluft" the boat can seat up to 7 people. It's electrical battery can boat you around for 6 hours or so. Lots of routes to choose from, and a lot of canals, rivers, lakes and open areas and many more to choose. Absolutely can recommended this. The price for the boat Is around €140,-. Additionally you can order a lunch package a day before for 30 euro per person. Didn't take this one, but it looked great from what I've seen.

We did a 6 hour bike ride around the park and it was amazing. A little tired and sore after, but there is so much to see, there is no way to see it on foot. We didn’t get a chance to canoe, sadly and that looks great as well. The small towns in the area are so quaint, the bike ferry is easy, just make sure you have a card to tap. The head wind was strong in some places so be aware, but it is all flat, except the bridges, so not strenuous

This is one of the most beautiful villages in the world, i am definitely sure about that. Very chill and peaceful vibe, you can rent a boat and sail along the channel and enjoying the nature and the weather here. My time there seems be frozen there. I highly recommend this wonderful village

It's a none regret decision to cycle around De Weerribben-Wieden National Park. We had a very good memory here in 2018. The View around the national park is amazing. There are less tourists so cycling here is very relax and comfortable. I think most tourists go to Giethoorn. It is an unique experience.

A beautiful place that is a pleasure to visit. Cozy village, beautiful houses. Besides the friendly staff, the local herring menu makes this place a memorable one.

Step back in time and experience the charm of a historic farming village at Museum Giethoorn 't Olde Maat Uus. Housed in an original farmhouse, this living museum offers a glimpse into life over 100 years ago, showcasing how locals earned a living through peat cutting and boat building. With costumed actors bringing history to life, visitors can explore the typical farmhouse of Giethoorn from a century ago.
Clean and tidy restrooms with hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and a diaper changing station. The museum's environment and staff are warm and friendly.

It is a small but really cute museum. It gives the feeling of walking in a house in 1800s. We loved to look around in the house and read about some of the unfamiliar items aim of use. You can also put some clothes on from these times and take some photos. Museum card is valid here.

Are you also curious about the history of the place you visited? If so, it's an excellent opportunity to learn about the past of this fairy-tale village and the life of the people who used to live there. Although it is not a very big museum, the history is explained in detail. Authentic items and clothing are on display. You can also try historical clothes and clogs and take pictures.

My visit to Giethoorn and its museum in 2016 was truly peaceful and unforgettable. The quiet canals, charming houses, and the calm countryside atmosphere made it feel like a dream. A perfect getaway from the busy city life!

Small but very cute museum in the center of the town. It is possible to see how people lived in the past in Giethoorn, the house, the daily life, all the agricultural uses and how the society of this small village worked. 6,5 euro to get in. The staff is very gentle and kind. Recommended

Loved the place! They have audio aids with explanations in a lot of languages. The place is really nice, you will find a lot of information about the village, it was actually pretty interesting. They have old clothes, furniture, and everything is arranged as if we were living in the old Giethoorn. I went on a Saturday and they were selling knieperties, so delicious!

A lovely shop with a lot of collections. The prices are fair, there are quite a lot for the kids so they can afford them. And also good and expensive ones for adults. Kids can learn a lot from these minerals and fossils.

Interesting shop with a huge collection of precious and semi precious stones. Beautiful jewelry and other items. Prices are reasonable. Worth a visit. Not suitable for people with mobility problems because you have to cross a bridge to get to the store.

Beautiful museum. The shop was great but not a lot of smaller ring sizes available sadly! The crystals however were beautiful and the people were so nice. There is a lovely ice cream shop nearby too. I had the pleasure of going during the off season so the museum wasn’t crowded at all. Definitely recommend!

I had the immense pleasure of celebrating my wedding at De Lindenhof, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. The picturesque setting provided a romantic and intimate backdrop that exceeded all our expectations. The culinary journey was one of the highlights of our celebration. Also, the service was impeccable. The De Lindenhof team attended to every detail with warmth and professionalism, ensuring that our day unfolded seamlessly. Our wedding was a dream come true, and we are profoundly grateful to the entire team for creating such an unforgettable experience.

Absolutely stunning restaurant and hotel. The 8 course tasting menu was phenomenal. Such talent in the kitchen! Amazing service staff, so knowledgeable and with genuine passion about the food. Cannot recommend highly enough, a must visit!

De Lindenhof was really an amazing experience. We stayed over night in one of the cozy rooms there, with a view over the beautiful garden. The dinner was absolutely delicious, great combination of flavors in harmony with each other. An explosion of flavors that I never tasted before. Moreover, each dish was perfectly paired with the wine. The breakfast of the morning after was something of another level. Eleven courses of happiness, best breakfast of my life. The people working there were very kind and modest, this made the atmosphere of the place very comfortable and cozy. You could not feel the typical fanciness and sometimes arrogance of some places. I will definitely go back! 10/10!
Elena R — Google review
We took the 8 menus course, everything was delicious. The staff was te here for us and if we had any questions. Even if it was late they didn’t disturb us and let us enjoy our meal. We had to ask for gluten free bread since one of us couldn’t eat normal bread and they made a fresh one. Food was succulent, there was a good use a sweetness and saltiness, hotness and coolness.
Marc N — Google review
We had lunch in the beautiful garden during a sunny day here at De Lindenhof. The cuisine is not far from the other Michelin rated restaurant in the region, with a solid French base, local products and beautiful preparations. The service was pretty cordial and warm, we felt comfortable for the whole meal. The boat experience is absolutely unique so I would recommend it if you’re here for a short period of time.
LMC A — Google review
Having been to a number of other Michelin rated restaurants the service and execution felt a bit off for two stars. Had the 12 course surprise menu paired with wines. The dishes were okay, but lacked real innovation. The pairing was poor with some wines tasting worse with the dish. The inside felt dated, but the garden outside seemed nice and would be a good place to have the meal instead.
Natalie C — Google review
Excellent dining with nice wine selection. The staff was experienced, the lady serving us was working there 25 years, gave detailed information on every signature dish. We have enjoyed fully and will definitely.be back! (Next time to enjoy the garden)
Erol O — Google review
It was more than a predictable Michelin experience. Far from being boring and dull. All courses of the surprise menu push the taste limits of your taste buds. The restaurant has also a great wine list and super cool waitresses. Although we passed by without any reservation, the staff have quickly arranged a table at the back side of the dining hall.

Grachthof Giethoorn, also known as Restaurant De Grachthof, is a charming restaurant and boat rental located in the heart of the medieval village of Giethoorn. The restaurant features a spacious terrace with picturesque views of the village canals and bridges. Guests can indulge in delectable dishes such as spicy Indonesian chicken, pulled pork, smoked salmon, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and soups.
We first sat outside by the river, and it was very nice. But suddenly a strong smell, possibly from nearby cattle, made us move inside. The staff were very friendly and let us sit anywhere we liked, and they even transferred our food inside for us. The chicken wings were amazing — some of the best I’ve ever had! The steak was okay, though a bit tough and chewy. The chicken sandwich was also good. Overall, it was a very good experience.

Food is wonderful! And service was top notch. Thank you Britt and the team for an amazing experience. Oh yeah, the apple pie is to die for! Make sure you order it with whipped cream!
Eric G — Google review
We got the beef burger and beef stew, both were decent. The beef stew was quite salty, so the salted french fries did not make a good combination. The burger patty was juicy and generally alright. The price is on the more expensive side but well the place is very well-located with good view and extremely spacious, so I guess we were paying for that as well which I didnt mind. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall a nice experience!

Had a small evening tea here. Good selection of snacks and coffee in the menu. Red velvet cake is great. Coffee portion is quite small. Pricing is a bit on the expensive side. Service is prompt and outdoor seating is good.

We had a lovely experience at Gracthof George! We ordered the vegan burger and fish and chips, and both dishes were absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The vegan burger was hearty and satisfying, while the fish and chips were crispy and perfectly cooked. The waitress was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. And let’s not forget the amazing view—it added such a special touch to our meal. A perfect spot for a relaxed, tasty lunch. Highly recommend!

Food was good I did order fish and chips Acompany with salads . But I didn’t like the sparkling wine their hot and not sparkling taste bad. Hope next time they chill it properly to enjoy the clients. Service was super entertaining Roy was very friendly and got to tell me that the restaurant was little influenced of French cuisine. The service was fast even their so many costumers because it was a very good weather. The atmosphere was superb front is the canal and the boat tours were there. Front entrance they have a huge sofa to chill. Nice long tables for clients and some space also at the back and big tables inside. Walls was fascinating with all the walls decorations. I had a wonderful dining experience at De Riestulp! The chicken schnitzel was absolutely delicious — crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. You can really taste the freshness of the ingredients and the care put into the preparation. The dish was beautifully presented, served with perfectly cooked fries and a tasty side salad. The atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and relaxing, and the staff were friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. Food: Delicious and eye catching. Got free fries 🍟 while we waiting for our food. Addition to that they did some little changes to my meal as per my request. Overall, it was a good dining experience. The food was generally decent, with a wide range of options available. It’s a suitable place for those travelling in large groups, though it can get quite crowded—especially during lunch hours. I recommend making a reservation if your group is large. The boat ride departs just outside the restaurant, so it’s a good idea to coordinate your meal and boat timing to enjoy the scenic ride right after dining. Our boat guide was very knowledgeable and added to the experience.

We ordered the ribs, salmon salad and pancake. The ribs are quite tasty, tender but just a bit salty. Salad portion is unexpectedly large, worth a try. Pancake is so so, no need to order. This is something can make at home like adding egg, flour, and milk together, mix the batter and pan fry it.

I enjoyed my lunch at De Rietstulp. It was a bright, sunny day. I made myself comfortable on the patio. Thanks to the team and all the best 👍

Italian restaurant
Nestled in the heart of a picturesque village, Ristorante Fratelli offers an enchanting dining experience that combines delectable Italian cuisine with stunning canal views. This charming eatery is situated on a serene island, allowing guests to enjoy their meals on an outdoor deck surrounded by the beauty of nature. Inside, the ambiance is modern and sophisticated, creating a perfect backdrop for savoring traditional Italian dishes crafted from the freshest ingredients.
It is a nice Italian restaurant, conveniently situated in the heart of Giethoorn. We were lucky to secure a table for lunch without a reservation, even though it was a busy Sunday afternoon. The outdoor terrace offers a great view of the canal and the passing boats. It started raining initially, but the restaurant has shades to cover you. The waitstaff is attentive and provides good recommendations. The food was great, and my wife and I were thoroughly pleased with our selections. The interior is also very nice and well decorated.

When we were going around by boat, I noticed that restaurant. It has the absolute best location in the whole area – right by the water, with a beautiful view. After the tour, we went back there, and I told my family: “I want to sit right here, in the best spot with the nicest view no matter if the food is good or not.” But I was truly surprised. They serve Italian pizzas that are just as good as the ones in Naples! I even asked if they really have a stone oven – and yes, they do. I highly recommend this restaurant both for, the view, and the food. Just a heads-up: they do not accept credit cards, and no debit cards from outside the EU – so bring cash just in case.

The Italian restaurant has okay food and a great view, but there's room for improvement. The cola was flat and tasted old, which was disappointing. Also, the service could be friendlier. If they fix the drinks and work on customer service, it would be a much better experience overall.

The Café-Restaurant 't Vonder offers exceptional quality meals, with an especially noteworthy tunasteak that is expertly seasoned and juicy. The tomato soup is thick and flavorful, and the Pasta genovese also receives praise. However, what truly sets this establishment apart is their outstanding service. When faced with heavy rain upon leaving the restaurant without umbrellas, the friendly waiter creatively provided large garbage bags as makeshift protection. This humorous gesture ensured a safe journey home.
I normally don't go to Cafe -restaurant style place for having a meal. I was not expecting nothing but a quick bite. But I'm gladly surprised. Place very very clean, quiet and nice atmosphere, service super kind and friendly, and all the sandwiches that we've tried, well made, simple but tasty and with fresh ingredients. Nice !!
