Historic Sites
The visit to Castillo de San Andrés was enjoyable, with a comedic individual dressed in historical attire adding amusement. Although lacking an elevator for upstairs access, the rest of the castle was impressive. The highlight was witnessing Jorge Pardo's captivating performance as a flute/sax player on August 16, 2019. His fusion of jazz, flamenco, and fusion created an atmospheric and thrilling experience. The castle itself is a fascinating location for history and art enthusiasts, offering quick exploration opportunities.
An interesting historical and cultural visit. As well as the castle itself, there's a permanent exhibition of old photos of Carboneras and also temporary art exhibitions. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

We arrived on Wednesday evening 16-10-24 around 18:15. According to the opening hours on Google Maps and on the entrance the castle should have been open - but was not. It was a windy but otherwise beautiful evening, and we were rather disappointed that our plan to see town and beach in the last golden sunbeams came to nothing.
Kurt M — Google review
I enjoyed the visit and the funny guy dressed in those times. It doesn't have an elevator to go upstairs . But the rest of the Castillo was very good

Very interesting place, lots of history....

Didn't go inside but quaint and well maintained within the castle walls. Not a Pueblo you would want to stay in, quite rough housing and occupants...

Went to see Jorge Pardo, flute/sax player, 16/8/2019. Fantastic gig - jazz/fusion/flamenco - totally atmospheric and exciting.

Historical landmark
Nestled in the stunning landscape of Carboneras, Torre del Rayo is a captivating landmark that offers breathtaking views of both the village and the shimmering sea. This unique tower can be reached from Playa del Rayo via two distinct paths: one is a leisurely stroll while the other presents a more challenging ascent. The journey to this historical site rewards visitors with panoramic vistas, especially enchanting at night when it’s illuminated.
Very interesting place, nice plaque to read about history, very well maintained and beautifully seen from Carboneras during the night when it is lit up, great views as well and easily accessed from the road. View from the bottom of the trail up to the castle. Great views of seas and beaches from around

Well worth the climb in the early afternoon heat. Wonderful views up and down the coast. This was obviously a watch tower for the castle in Carboneras.

(Translated by Google) It is a watchtower against the Barbary pirates that has been restored. The views from above are beautiful. Admission is free and can only be accessed on foot. Be careful with the ladder, it is very vertical. I recommend going down on your back, just as you go up.

(Translated by Google) You can park your car easily, the paths are quite easy to access. To get to the top of the tower, there are quite steep stairs but the view is really pretty. From the top you can see the path to take to see the Hippie Temple of Miguel Ángel on the beach below, which is also very easy to access. Faro de la Mesa Roldán is a must-visit in Almeria, offering stunning views of the coastline. The area boasts numerous hiking trails leading to viewpoints such as Mirador de la Granatilla and Mirador de la Playa de los Muertos. The lighthouse also houses a museum dedicated to lighthouses worldwide. Accessible by road or on foot via a path, it's an ideal spot for nature lovers and hikers alike.
Mário de lighthouse keeper has a small private museum with interesting objects. Visits are by invitation only, but if you have the privilege of being invited, totally recommend it. Kids and adults will find it interesting and intriguing. Leave a small donation. He receives no funds for his museum and keeps it out of personal curiosity

Traveling throughout Spain, 2019 was a journey of discovery, excellent food & wine, and many adventures. Among the most memorable was discovering the many places where HBO Series, the Game of Thrones had chosen Spain locations for its episodes. Almeria has several scenes depicting Vaes Dothrak, their commercial capital, were shot in Pechina. And Almería’s already-legendary Desert of Tabernas, home of the “spaghetti western” (and more recently site of scenes for Exodus), became the Dothraki Sea, which is in fact a gigantic steppe in Essos, the largest continent in the make-believe world created by writer George R. R. Martin. Almería also contributee to Game of Thrones with The Torre de Mesa Roldán, in Cabo de Gata natural park, in an episode it is part of Meereen, the city of pyramids. Don't miss visiting Spain!

Beach
Nestled in the charming coastal town, Playa de Los Cocones is a delightful urban beach that beckons both locals and visitors alike. Known for its serene atmosphere and pristine environment, this beach features small pebbles that are more comfortable than traditional sand, making it an ideal spot for relaxation. The crystal-clear waters invite you to take a refreshing dip, especially on calm days when the waves are gentle.
A wonderful beach, clean, spacious, with clear refreshing water, not steep to get in the water, the sand is one of the best, perfect granularity for comfort and fun. There are working showers on the beach.

Los Muertos Beach is a picturesque and undeveloped pebble beach located within the Nature Reserve of Cabo de Gata-Nijar. It is known for its crystal-clear turquoise waters, fine white sand, and secluded location, making it perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling. The beach is hidden between mountains and has an extraordinarily straight shoreline. Accessible via a hilly hiking path, it's popular with nudists due to its difficulty to reach.

Amazing beach! Must go in Cabo de Gata. You can park for free and there’s a place to buy food or drinks on the road. It’s a short 5-10 minute walk to the beach but very accessible

Beautiful Beach, but wear good shoes for the path downhill. For the Beach we could have had bathing shoes, but managed without. Few People on an day with low wind in November, it was an amazing experience 🤩

Amazing pebbly beach. Pebbles are small and smooth, very comfortable to walk and relax upon. The path down to the beach is somewhat uneven so take care and wear good shoes.

Stunning blue waters. Unfortunately the waves were crazy so didn’t swim that much. Bring water shoes. Parking was ok. There is a lot with paid parking but you can also park on the side of the road for free no problem. ~20 min to get down to the beach.
Cathy S — Google review
Loved it! Crystal clear. At least 3 different fish in the shallows; a mask is a must to see them better. Great car parking but sooooo busy even today at 16:00 on 10/09/25. 6€ charge up to 19:00. Water, ice-cream and other things sold by the car park. Uneven 15 minute walk down to the beach; wear good grip shoes or sandals. Gorgeous small stones on the beach make it really comfortable just with a towel; no chair needed.

Bar Restaurante Hernandez is a delightful and unexpected gem. The seafood is exceptionally fresh and reasonably priced, showcasing the local flavors of the region. The salads are simply fantastic, with a special recommendation for their Cogollos dish. The service is incredibly friendly and welcoming, making for a pleasant dining experience overall. It's worth noting that although the show might be in Spanish, it adds an authentic touch to being in Spain.
Incredible food, the galan fish and the red prawns were out of this world, affordable great portions, local product overall 10/10 experience, wating staff was also very atentive and polite. I will come back.

Asador Restaurante La Quesería is a cozy dining spot in Carboneras, known for its specialty in grilled squid and various meat dishes. The restaurant offers a Mediterranean-style menu with a focus on meat cuts and also features some seafood stews. Despite occasional stock issues, the food quality is highly praised, with dishes like red tuna, ox beef, and tangerine mousse receiving rave reviews.
A wonderful place with excellent food and above average service. The atmosphere is perfectly Spanish, quaint and nicely decorated. Food selection is great as well as wines. Highly recommended!

The ads say ..good meat. Truth? It is excellent meat. The ads are understating the quality of the food as well as the cook. Worth going to? Certainly. It is off the beach and up a hillside. If your mouth is looking for a special treat...then here is the place it will be happy. The bread was superb. From the opening bite to the last swallow happiness is here.

We went to this restaurant wanted to eat the squit, recommended by some friends and internet too, but they haven't stock of the product, little bit dissapointed, nevertheless we decided to stay and ordered, for the starter a mix of little squids, shrimps & mussels, for the two mains, red tuna & Ox beaf and for the dessert a mousse of tangerine. All was amazing, very good products and the dishes very well executed.

Honest food no doubt about it but rations are way too big in some instances. The waitress did not warn us about that. Wonderful burrata salad. The octopus and potato dish was too dense, too much. Suggestion: they could charge half the price for half the food on this plate and that would be ok for an entrée dish IMHO

Despite some reported issues with reservations and service in the past, Ajo y Guindilla has received positive feedback for its food quality and has been recommended as a dining option in Carboneras.
Very nice terrace to seat on a hot summer day. We tried a special starter of mushrooms, Entrecote and Secreto Ibérico for the main and a home-made cheesecake. All the dishes were very tasty.

(updated) Ended up not eating here because no one picks up the phone to make a reservation and obviously, when I arrived as a walk-in they were full. Bad manners as well from one of the waiters saying it was full not even looking me in the eye as if he was the Queen of England. Kept the card to call another day to that same number no one answers... Update: so they were kind enough to answer my complaint and ended up increasing the review one star. Message to the owner: you don't need to be super dependent on the phone, just use EL TENEDOR like everyone else and you'll be fine. Oh, and by the way you turned down a nice young couple just because they had a dog. You should allow dogs in because it really shows how you love your customers and you have a nice, outdoor patio so there is no problem. It's just a suggestion.

Mediterranean restaurant
Restaurante Sol y Playa is a beachfront eatery situated by the sea, offering an idyllic view of the Mediterranean. Located in Carboneras, it stands in a pedestrian area devoid of traffic noise and odors. Although prices may appear steep initially, the variety of seafood choices and exceptional quality of ingredients and cooking surpasses expectations. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful, creating a welcoming atmosphere for diners.
Great food and service. We went to the 3 restaurant Next to each other. And this was by far the best and tradicional. We even ask to make the favor to Change the almejoas at vapor to marinera and honesty was the best marinera sauce i ever try. We had to repeat the Next day. Even the bread was great!! Thanks to the family business for the experience

Great value menu del dai, which was served promptly. Lovely bottle of Rioja to go with it ( I am surprised at the cost of a bottle of wine in spain though when eating out). This was 16 euro, which is cheaper than some. Good portion and lovely sitting out on the beach front. Staff were very good 👍

A warm welcome to a restaurant in a great location, right next to the beach in Carboneras. The Menu del dia is very nice & comes well presented, warm & tasty. 3-courses of good proportions of food. It was a warm & sunny day when we were there, but the canopies kept the table area cool & comfortable. A very enjoyable meal in a beautiful setting.
Chris A — Google review
This is a sea front restaurant with frontage to the beach and sea, just a pedestrian area before the sand. So therefore wonderfully free of traffic smells or noise. It’s a no frills place with prices that initially look on the high side. But a wonderful choice of seafood and the quality of the ingredients and cooking justify the price tag.
Richard B — Google review
Not the cheapest place, but good. The entree of smoked tuna was delicious, the big plate of fried fish had a lot of variety and was very tasty. We would have liked some sauces with the breads. Entree + Plate (which was enough for 2) + 3 drinks a little under 50 euro
Daleilama — Google review
Nothing sophisticated. Good food but nothing to shout about. My fried squid were clearly cooked in old oil and dishes didn't come out at the same time. We were told desserts were homemade, but instead they were frozen. We complained, but there was no interest. Toilets were also beyond filthy.

If you find yourself in Carboneras and are on the hunt for a delightful dining experience, look no further than Restaurante Sagoni. This charming eatery offers a diverse menu that showcases traditional cuisine with an emphasis on fresh seafood, meats, and local flavors. Diners can indulge in an array of dishes such as freshly caught fish, succulent octopus, stuffed artichokes, flavorful rice dishes like paella and fideuà, as well as classic tapas like patatas bravas.
Unbelievable, the seafood here is second to none. I wish we were hungrier as I could have eaten so much more from this menu. The staff are friendly and helpful, their English isn’t great, but it is sure way better than our Spanish. The food is exquisite, if you want to find a place to eat and come across this, do not hesitate. It is lovely to eat outside in the midday sun also, as it has a beautiful patio right by the beach, which was the draw in the first place.

Good tasty seafood, quick service. But I wouldn't come back as a solo visitor here, the place is tailored to groups. Paella is for a minimum of two, wine is by bottle only not by glass. Great location on the beach

Recently converted from a bar to a fish/sea food focused restaurant. The food is good and very well priced. The fish is local capture - comes directly from the boat. The business is family ran and the staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Fantastic beachside location with nice food. We initially had great service from what I imagine to be the owner, halfway through a younger lad served us. We asked him to erect the umbrella and as he did he knocked over my partner's beer, which went over his food and his clothes. We ordered another beer to replace the lost one, which was brought out some time later. When the bill came we had been charged for the spilt beer...and no apology of the spillage was ever made. It was an enjoyable meal, even fairly humourous given the circumstance but I'm not sure I'd rush back also given the circumstance!
Laura B — Google review
We ordered a certain bottle of wine and they brought is a different one, proceeded to uncork it and explained that it was the same but different label. We tasted it and sent it back because it was nothing like the one we wanted. Eventually the brought the right wine but reserva instead of crianza. Anyway the food was excellent, the service was nice and the setting is great so fully recommended.

Good tapas included with every drink. Try the palometa chérigan or the octopus. Very friendly staff.
