Outdoor Activities
Los Muertos Beach is a picturesque and undeveloped pebble beach located within the Nature Reserve of Cabo de Gata-Nijar. It is known for its crystal-clear turquoise waters, fine white sand, and secluded location, making it perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling. The beach is hidden between mountains and has an extraordinarily straight shoreline. Accessible via a hilly hiking path, it's popular with nudists due to its difficulty to reach.
The Best Nudist Beach EVER a must visit 🏖️ walk up to standing rocks far right (see photos) private and peaceful lots of couples crystal clear water see photos we will be visiting in March 2025 FFK

This is one of my most favourite beaches! Parking available up the hill. About 15-20min walk down. Dont wear flip flops if you can help it. Waves were very harsh but very enjoyable.
Vyan — Google review
Amazing beach! Must go in Cabo de Gata. You can park for free and there’s a place to buy food or drinks on the road. It’s a short 5-10 minute walk to the beach but very accessible
Rodrigo C — Google review
This beach is one that you need to literally walk down the side of a steep hill to get to. The walk down is a bit dangerous if you are not wearing proper shoes. I wasn't warned about this and so I was in flip flops, needless to say, I slipped and fell over. Now, that said, this beach is well worth the walk because it is amazing. I've never been on a beach like this! Amazing water where beautifully colored fish come right up to you!! You can walk along the beautiful white sand and also little caves where you can take some refuge from the sun if you need to. No wheelchairs or baby carriages. Pack your beach needs wisely. Returning back up if you forget something would be trying. I will definitely return to this beach the next time I'm in Almería!
Michelle M — Google review
Amazing pebbly beach. Pebbles are small and smooth, very comfortable to walk and relax upon. The path down to the beach is somewhat uneven so take care and wear good shoes.
Quentin L — Google review
Beautiful beach, nice walk. There is parking on the side, and then some walk down to the beach.
Vilma V — Google review
Stunning blue waters. Unfortunately the waves were crazy so didn’t swim that much. Bring water shoes. Parking was ok. There is a lot with paid parking but you can also park on the side of the road for free no problem. ~20 min to get down to the beach.
Cathy S — Google review
Loved it! Crystal clear. At least 3 different fish in the shallows; a mask is a must to see them better. Great car parking but sooooo busy even today at 16:00 on 10/09/25. 6€ charge up to 19:00. Water, ice-cream and other things sold by the car park. Uneven 15 minute walk down to the beach; wear good grip shoes or sandals. Gorgeous small stones on the beach make it really comfortable just with a towel; no chair needed.

Faro de la Mesa Roldán is a must-visit in Almeria, offering stunning views of the coastline. The area boasts numerous hiking trails leading to viewpoints such as Mirador de la Granatilla and Mirador de la Playa de los Muertos. The lighthouse also houses a museum dedicated to lighthouses worldwide. Accessible by road or on foot via a path, it's an ideal spot for nature lovers and hikers alike.
Mário de lighthouse keeper has a small private museum with interesting objects. Visits are by invitation only, but if you have the privilege of being invited, totally recommend it. Kids and adults will find it interesting and intriguing. Leave a small donation. He receives no funds for his museum and keeps it out of personal curiosity

Traveling throughout Spain, 2019 was a journey of discovery, excellent food & wine, and many adventures. Among the most memorable was discovering the many places where HBO Series, the Game of Thrones had chosen Spain locations for its episodes. Almeria has several scenes depicting Vaes Dothrak, their commercial capital, were shot in Pechina. And Almería’s already-legendary Desert of Tabernas, home of the “spaghetti western” (and more recently site of scenes for Exodus), became the Dothraki Sea, which is in fact a gigantic steppe in Essos, the largest continent in the make-believe world created by writer George R. R. Martin. Almería also contributee to Game of Thrones with The Torre de Mesa Roldán, in Cabo de Gata natural park, in an episode it is part of Meereen, the city of pyramids. Don't miss visiting Spain!

Playa El Corral is a beautiful pebbly beach with crystal clear waters, making it an ideal spot for swimming and sunbathing. It's not too crowded, offering a peaceful atmosphere for visitors. Additionally, the wide open space provides plenty of room for relaxation and enjoying the sunrise.
Underrated beach, the water is as nice as Muertos, but much easier to get to. Yes, there's a cement port to the north, but you don't see that when you're looking at the fish swimming around in the clear water!

Bar Restaurante Hernandez is a delightful and unexpected gem. The seafood is exceptionally fresh and reasonably priced, showcasing the local flavors of the region. The salads are simply fantastic, with a special recommendation for their Cogollos dish. The service is incredibly friendly and welcoming, making for a pleasant dining experience overall. It's worth noting that although the show might be in Spanish, it adds an authentic touch to being in Spain.
Incredible food, the galan fish and the red prawns were out of this world, affordable great portions, local product overall 10/10 experience, wating staff was also very atentive and polite. I will come back.

Restaurant
Asador La Chumbera is a renowned restaurant in Almeria, listed in the Michelin Guide and known for its exceptional meat selection. The restaurant offers locally-grown accompaniments to complement their grilled meats. With impeccable seafood and outstanding meat options, it's a must-visit for non-vegetarians. Visitors can expect top-notch service and an incredible dining experience, with perfectly cooked dishes such as mussels, sea bass, and duck.
Food, service and ambience was incredible. We had the cheese platter, mussels, sea bass (or sole? I can’t remember) and duck. They were all cooked to perfection and the waiter was just lovely. For a Michelin star restaurant it also wasn’t super expensive. 10/10 will return!
Erica I — Google review
We came to this restaurant a few years ago in their old location and remember how good it was, especially the meat which was on a par with the great steaks we've eaten in the Basque Country. (Asador Etxebarri, Bar Nestor etc). On this occasion we ate only seafood as we had a none meat eater in our party. The food was as good as we remembered. The service was also notably of a high standard. They allowed us to bring our well-trained collie dogs on the terrace and even brought water for them. It's always a great sign when the bread is of high quality, as it is here, equal to many Michelin star places we've been to. We ate superb oysters, local prawns from Garrucha, tuna sashimi and sea bass with pleasingly crispy skin is a real triumph. That along with the wonderful location on the seafront and a lunch here makes for a memorable and wonderful occasion.
Scott — Google review
Referenced in the Michelin guide, if you blink you’ll drive past this excellent traditional restaurant. Recommend booking, in fact i think that is compulsory. We shared starters and enjoyed aged steaks and fish main courses. The Muga wine was delicious as were our desserts. The 230 euro bill for four was washed down with complimentary bottles of baileys and limoncello. The service was great and the atmosphere felt private and spacious.

Impeccable seafood and outstanding meat make for a wonderful restaurant: Asador La Chumbera has it all. If you’re around here, stop by and try their amazing mussels and king prawns. And if you’re a carnivore at heart, their selection of beef cuts will let you drooling from the moment you’ll get a chance to witness their fridge to digestion. It’s a must visit for all non-vegetarians!

Beach
Algarrobico Beach is a hidden gem nestled within the stunning Parque Natural del Cabo de Gata-Níjar. This rocky shoreline offers a serene escape for those seeking tranquility away from crowded tourist spots. With its clear waters and beautiful surroundings, it's an ideal location for swimming and sunbathing, including naturist options. Interestingly, this beach has a cinematic history as it served as the backdrop for the iconic film "Lawrence of Arabia.
We loved this beach. Although there's nothing here, it's quiet and peaceful. Swimming was good and the water beautifully clear. Naturist sunbathing and swimming is also accepted here.
Chris M — Google review
Simple basic beach with nothing special about it. Many stones and not a great deal of sand. Untidy with rubbish in places that must have washed down from the rambla behind. Very popular with fishermen and walkers. The huge unfinished hotel is something to see and wonder why someone decided to build it here. Access would have been restricted by the narrow road and beyond the precipitous coast road from Mojacar making it difficult to get to for the prospective tourists. I think it's worth visiting for a walk but I wouldn't want to spend a day on the beach here.

Very nice terrace to seat on a hot summer day. We tried a special starter of mushrooms, Entrecote and Secreto Ibérico for the main and a home-made cheesecake. All the dishes were very tasty.

(updated) Ended up not eating here because no one picks up the phone to make a reservation and obviously, when I arrived as a walk-in they were full. Bad manners as well from one of the waiters saying it was full not even looking me in the eye as if he was the Queen of England. Kept the card to call another day to that same number no one answers... Update: so they were kind enough to answer my complaint and ended up increasing the review one star. Message to the owner: you don't need to be super dependent on the phone, just use EL TENEDOR like everyone else and you'll be fine. Oh, and by the way you turned down a nice young couple just because they had a dog. You should allow dogs in because it really shows how you love your customers and you have a nice, outdoor patio so there is no problem. It's just a suggestion.

The visit to Castillo de San Andrés was enjoyable, with a comedic individual dressed in historical attire adding amusement. Although lacking an elevator for upstairs access, the rest of the castle was impressive. The highlight was witnessing Jorge Pardo's captivating performance as a flute/sax player on August 16, 2019. His fusion of jazz, flamenco, and fusion created an atmospheric and thrilling experience. The castle itself is a fascinating location for history and art enthusiasts, offering quick exploration opportunities.
An interesting historical and cultural visit. As well as the castle itself, there's a permanent exhibition of old photos of Carboneras and also temporary art exhibitions. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

We arrived on Wednesday evening 16-10-24 around 18:15. According to the opening hours on Google Maps and on the entrance the castle should have been open - but was not. It was a windy but otherwise beautiful evening, and we were rather disappointed that our plan to see town and beach in the last golden sunbeams came to nothing.

(Translated by Google) We really wanted to see Carboneras but the access from Mojacar was terrible. A narrow road full of precipices. Finally, in 1986, some friends of ours surprised us because they had spent the month there. We have arrived on the Almería highway. And so we arrive. It seemed like a western town to us. Lots of beach and everything very rustic. The Castle, the Island of San Andrés, two beautiful houses in the center caught our attention, one of them with a huge fig tree in the back. The food market, today painfully closed, kept fish from the area, THE RED PRAWN, and some delicious potatoes from the Don Antonio plain. Every year we spend our month of July in Carboneras. Our Paradise. Word of mouth, I suppose, made the place known and the changes began. But for me the best was the transformation of the fig tree into a beautiful park with a variety of spaces for all audiences. My quest is to know who designed it because it deserves a plaque with its name.

Beach
Playa de Carboneras is a lengthy and popular urban beach with a promenade, bars, eateries, play areas, lifeguards, and showers. It's a great place to stay if you want to explore the surroundings. The rooms are spacious and come with a fridge for storing snacks or drinks. The location in the center is fantastic, right in the heart of the action. The beach is huge and quiet but not ideal for snorkeling due to its rocky entrance.
This place is beautiful, I whent twice with my mum and aunt and both times where lovely. Its a long beach and has many shells to collect too, its relatively shallow and calm. The best time to go is from 6-9 at night, the atmosphere is amazing then and its not as crowded as the morning, aswell as the ocean being extremely calm.

We enjoyed a pleasant lunch here, a beautiful sunny day. Although the area was quiet (Monday in February) the restaurant was busy with a mix of locals and tourists. The waiter was very helpful, especially as the menu is in Spanish, and while I could translate about half of the dishes, he helped greatly. In the end we had a nice salad and mixed paella plus the mandatory beers! The remarkable cactus trees shown in my photo are a short distance from the restaurant.

Excellent food, service and decor. My family and I ate here 3 times during our stay in Carbonereas. The quality of the food was excellent, the deserts were amazing! The only caution in translation from Spanish to English for English customers would be to not confuse veal on the menu for white veal, instead it is rose veal and not as tender. All other food options were excellent and would highly recommend eating here.

Nestled in the charming coastal town of Carboneras, Donde Caparrós is a delightful restaurant that offers an authentic taste of traditional Spanish cuisine. With its prime location near the beach, diners can enjoy stunning views while savoring delicious meals made from fresh ingredients. The menu features a variety of options, including generous portions of squid and flavorful egg frittatas, all served with exceptional service that makes every visit memorable.
Just had an excellent lunch here the squid was enormous and excellently cooked the egg frittatas was lovely and an excellent tuna side salad the service was excellent could not believe two glasses of wine only 6€ will definitely visit again

Restaurante Donde Caparros is really a big no go. I strongly recommend to avoid. Ordered a cappuccino, got a wine glass with powdered coffee, lots of sugar in it and some foam for 3 euros. We then ordered food, and one of them was croquetas which was not on the menu. The waiter said no problem and brought us a plate with 12. Having eaten various portions of croquetas at other places, these were at best of mediocre quality and for sure not home made. What shocked us was the price of 22 Euros for a portion of 12!! It’s clear they care zero about food quality and only want to rip-off tourists. Do yourself a favor and find another nice restaurant close by.
