Kurukshetra

Kurukshetra is a city in the north Indian state of Haryana. It's known as the setting of the Hindu epic poem the "Mahabharata." The text's great battle is depicted in a large diorama at the Kurukshetra Panorama and Science Centre. West of the city, the town of Jyotisar is a pilgrimage site where, according to the "Mahabharata," the sacred "Bhagavad Gita" scripture was first delivered.

Brahma Sarovar, located in Thanesar, is a significant Hindu water pool surrounded by sculptures and temples. It is a historic site that has been mentioned by the 12th-century scholar Al Beruni in his memoirs about India. The sarovar attracts pilgrims, especially during solar eclipses when it is believed that taking a dip in its waters can absolve one of all sins.
I had the chance to visit Brahma Sarovar in January this year, and it was truly a beautiful and peaceful experience. The place holds immense historical and spiritual significance, yet it’s surprisingly less known among tourists. The energy here is something you feel the moment you step in. It’s serene, scenic, and deeply rooted in India’s legacy. I really hope more efforts are made to promote this hidden gem—India needs to know more about treasures like this!

Brahma Sarovar & The Battlefield of Kurukshetra — Where History Breathes as Memory There are places in India that do not just exist — they resonate. Brahma Sarovar in Kurukshetra is one such expanse of sacred water where mythology, divinity, and the human search for truth converge quietly in the shimmer of the sun. Standing by its banks, one does not merely see a water body; one feels time itself pausing — as if the universe waits for the mind to remember what the soul already knows. According to legend, this is where Lord Brahma created the universe, and where Lord Krishna later delivered the immortal verses of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna — words that have shaped philosophies, empires, and inner journeys for millennia. The Sarovar, expansive and reflective, mirrors not just the sky but the eternal dialogue between duty and doubt, courage and surrender. Walking around the tank, especially at dawn or dusk, the stillness feels sentient. The sound of temple bells mingles with the rustling wind, and the scent of incense floats gently across the water — as if the gods themselves still wander here, unseen but felt. Pilgrims performing aarti on its banks often describe a feeling of weightlessness — as though the very act of standing here cleanses one of lifetimes of dust. A few kilometers away lies the Battlefield of Kurukshetra — the cradle of the Mahabharata’s most defining moment. The air here feels heavier, charged with an unseen gravity. One can almost sense the echo of conches, the thunder of chariots, and the silence that must have followed when Arjuna lowered his bow in despair, before Krishna’s divine counsel stirred him back to purpose. What makes Kurukshetra so profound is not its mythological grandeur, but its moral timelessness. The questions that were asked here — about dharma, destiny, and the price of righteousness — remain hauntingly relevant to every generation. Standing on that sacred soil, one realizes that the Mahabharata was never just a war; it was humanity’s eternal dialogue with itself. ⸻ In Essence Brahma Sarovar is the calm — Kurukshetra is the storm. One mirrors creation; the other, consequence. Together, they remind us that every human journey — whether of faith, struggle, or enlightenment — begins and ends within.

A beautiful place and main attraction in Kurukshetra. It is surrounded by ghats and the land of Kurukshetra is considered holy as the war of Mahabharata was fought here. It’s calm, well-maintained and a really good place for a stroll. Would definitely recommend to visit if you’re in the city.

Brahma sarovar is situated in kurukshetra as holy place. Bhagvaan Brahma has placed one Shiv-ling here. Mahabharat battle was fought at this place. Dropdi koop is here where Dropdi wash her hair after Dushashan vadh. It is Asia's largest man made sarovar. Very huge, large water body. Well managed and maintained by Kurukshetra Administration. Many Dharamshalas and hotels to stay.

Nestled in the historic city of its namesake, the Kurukshetra Panorama and Science Center is a beautiful and unique destination that masterfully bridges the gap between ancient epics and modern scientific curiosity. It is more than just a museum; it’s a captivating experience, perfect for a family day out, brimming with fun activities and enriching knowledge. The center’s main attraction is the breathtaking Panorama, a visual and auditory spectacle dedicated to the Mahabharat war. Inside a circular building, a magnificent panoramic painting and a dramatic sound-and-light narration bring the climactic battle of Kurukshetra to life. You don’t just learn about the war; you feel transported to the battlefield, gaining a profound understanding of this pivotal moment in ancient Indian culture and history. Complementing this journey into the past is the Science Center, which is a guaranteed hit with kids. Packed with interactive exhibits and working models, it makes complex principles of physics and technology accessible and incredibly fun. Children can engage with hands-on activities that spark curiosity and make learning an adventure. Beyond the indoor exhibits, the complex offers a lovely backyard park. Here, children can enjoy swings and, to their delight, often spot playful rabbits hopping around. This green space provides a perfect setting to relax and is a good place to click some beautiful pictures, with the unique architecture of the center serving as a fantastic backdrop. Whether you are a history buff, a science enthusiast, or a parent looking for an engaging outing, the Kurukshetra Panorama and Science Center delivers. It’s a place where you can spend quality time, where every corner offers something new to discover, making it an unforgettable and highly recommended experience for all ages.

Shri Devikoop Bhadrakali Shaktipeeth Temple in Kurukshetra is a Hindu temple dedicated to Bhadrakali, a form of Shakti and a former consort of Shiva. It is one of the fifty-one shakti pithas of India, believed to be the place where the right ankle of Sati fell. The temple features a marble ankle that commemorates this mythological event.
Visiting this temple was a spiritually enriching and historically profound experience. Nestled in the sacred land of Kurukshetra, where Lord Krishna delivered the Bhagavad Gita, this temple stands as one of the 51 revered Shakti Peethas of India. According to legend, it is the site where the anklet of Goddess Sati fell, making it a powerful center of divine feminine energy. The atmosphere within the temple is both serene and charged with devotion. The main sanctum houses the idol of Maa Bhadrakali, a fierce and protective form of the Mother Goddess. What makes this temple especially intriguing is the symbolic representation of the fallen anklet, a rare relic that connects devotees to the mythological roots of the Shakti Peetha tradition. Architecturally, the temple is modest yet vibrant, with walls echoing centuries of faith. On the upper floor, one can see striking depictions of Lord Shiva carrying Sati, Vishnu with his Sudarshan Chakra, and various other deities—each reinforcing the spiritual narrative behind the temple’s origin. Devotees can also visit adjacent shrines to Lord Ganesha, Goddess Saraswati, and Gayatri Devi, making it a holistic pilgrimage site. Practical facilities like nearby dharamshalas, clean premises, and even online pooja bookings show how well the temple balances tradition with modern needs. Whether you're a devotee seeking blessings or a traveler interested in India's spiritual heritage, this temple offers a profound connection to both mythology and divinity.

This is one of the 52 Sakti peeths of India as mentioned at the mandir gate. So this temple is very holy and sacred place for all Hindus and devotees of Maata. Joust outside of this Mandir is a place for Shani deo ji Enough parking space for devotees.

Devikoop Temple in Kurukshetra is truly amazing and holds a special place as one of the oldest and most revered temples in the region. Steeped in history and spirituality, the temple attracts countless devotees and visitors who come to witness its divine aura and timeless architecture. The sanctity of the place, combined with its rich cultural and mythological significance, makes it a sacred destination for people seeking peace, blessings, and a connection to ancient traditions. Over the years, the temple has stood as a symbol of devotion and faith, continuing to inspire awe and reverence among all who visit.
Ankush S — Google review
Also known as Shri Devi Koop Temple, it is dedicated to Maa Bhadrakali, one of the eight forms of Goddess Kali. Being among the 51 Shakti Peeths, the temple resonates with the story of Goddess Sati. It is believed that the Goddess, angered by her father's insult towards her and Lord Shiva, immolated herself during a yagya performed by King Daksha. In grief, Lord Shiva wandered the cosmos with her body until Lord Vishnu intervened, slicing her body into 51 parts with his Sudarshan Chakra. Of these parts, Sati's right ankle fell in the well that was right here. Exactly on this site, inside the temple, there is a massive white marble lotus now, said to hold Ma Sati's ankle—a potent symbol of the Shakti Peeth. Devotees believe that visiting the temple on Saturdays and worshiping the Goddess brings fruit. It’s time for you to plan a visit now!
Hitesh P — Google review

Town House Restaurant and Hotel is an average but decent place to stay and dine in Kurukshetra. The biggest plus point of this property is its location and the view it offers. Situated in a convenient spot, it gives you easy access to nearby attractions, and the surrounding view is definitely pleasant, which adds to the overall experience. When it comes to food, the quality is just okay. The menu has a fair variety, but the taste is nothing exceptional—neither too bad nor something you would remember for long. It’s good enough to satisfy hunger but not something that stands out. The service is also on the average side; the staff is polite but not very prompt or attentive. You might have to wait a little longer than expected, but eventually, things do get taken care of. The hotel rooms are decent and provide the basic facilities you would need for a short stay. Cleanliness is maintained reasonably well, though the rooms could do with a bit more modern touch and better upkeep. Still, for the price range, they serve the purpose and are comfortable enough for travelers. Overall, town house is neither outstanding nor disappointing. It falls somewhere in between—a decent choice if you are looking for a place with a nice location and view, without expecting too much in terms of luxury, food quality, or top-notch service. A reasonable option for short stays and casual dining.

A person at billing counter is really horrible and very unprofessional. He misbehaved with us for a simple request of splitting the bill as we were 2 families. He wasted our half hour for billing on top of misbehaviour. Never seen such a rude person in my life. I must add that a person at restaurant is very friendly and co-operative. Food is also very nice.
