Downtown, the early-20th-century McFaddin-Ward House, now a museum, reflects the wealth of the family who lived there. The Art Museum of Southeast Texas and the Dishman Art Museum showcase regional and national contemporary art.

The McFaddin-Ward House Historic Museum is a stunning example of beaux arts colonial architecture, showcasing the opulent lifestyle of the wealthy in early 20th century Southeast Texas. Built in 1906 by architect Henry Mauer, this period-furnished residence offers guided tours and exhibits that provide an accurate portrayal of life for affluent families at the time.
I went to see this house on a whim and was fortunate enough to be the only one there on a Saturday morning. I had my own personal docent Rhonda (I believe) who was so sweet and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend seeing this house. It was fascinating and beautiful!

First here attended a guided tour on 5 Aug. The tour was very informative and interesting. Her name is Renee. The gardens of the mansion are beautiful. The town of Beaumont is a a quiet and peaceful place. Personnel suggested to come back again during the Christmas holidays since the mansion will be decorated so pretty, and they will have activities for the kids. The event will be Dec 6 & 7. I am planning to take my grandchildren.

You need to go visit the McFaddin-Ward House and Carriage House Museum in Beaumont. The work in restoring the house and carriage to its beauty is amazing. From the times in 1907 when they first moved in, and to the days it became a National Historical Place of history is amazing. The McFaddin-Ward families retained many of their purchase receipts and records as they were often making updates and storing the older items in the attic. This ultimately has a treasure of the updates with some of the first lighting, firehoses, and phonographes that were way ahead of their time. They gave back to the City of Beaumont in many ways.

This is a very nice museum. You definitely want to call ahead and get a guided tour. There is so much to see and so much history . Highly recommend.
Angela M — Google review
I went on teacher appreciation day. The experience was very nice. We were able to tour the first floor only, but that was enough to realize that you should go back later to tour the entire home. There is so much history in the home. The photos and the stories behind them were very informative. It's a good place to bring your students for a history class.

My husband and I came to Beaumont for the weekend as a quick getaway just for the museums. The McFaddin-Ward House far exceeded our expectations! We called ahead to reserve a docent-led tour. When we arrived we were greeted warmly by the employees and had time to look at the exhibits in the visitors center while we waited for the rest of the tour group. The tour started with a short video about the family. Then we headed to the main house for the tour. Kent was our guide. He was friendly and knowledgeable... he brought the family to life as we wound our way through the home and grounds providing a fascinating glimpse into the life of the very wealthy of the time. We wrapped up our visit with a tour of the Carriage House and the displays about the loyal servants that worked for the family. The entire experience is free (they wouldn't even accept donations or tips!) and rivals similar historic home tours that can be pricey. Plan to spend at least two hours to enjoy the full experience.

If you want a location that shares history in the most beautiful way, then this is the spot to visit. Not only does it share history, but it's like taking a trip back in time. The staff personnel are super friendly and very knowledgeable. This is one of my favorite places to visit and have done multiple times.

My favorite place to time travel. Awesome volunteers who give all the information and let you ask questions. Those ladies are fantastic. The place is fabulous. I live close by and I go there frequently. Check out the times. Plenty parking. Call to find out when they have those guided tours

The Texas Energy Museum in Beaumont is a family-friendly attraction that offers interactive exhibits exploring the geology of petroleum and the oil industry. Visitors can delve into the history of oil discovery in Texas, learn about drilling and refinery processes, and discover how oil contributes to everyday products. The museum also showcases artifacts from the 1901 Spindletop oil blow and highlights the impact of the oil and gas industry on Texas' economy and culture. Additionally, it provides insights into technological advancements in energy production.
This is a very informative museum. It's a must do if in the Beaumont area. Definitely recommend.
Angela M — Google review
Ms. Feagin, the director of the Texas Energy Museum, along with the entire museum staff, was incredibly supportive and welcoming to our migrant students during the tour. We are truly grateful for their hospitality and effort in making the experience meaningful for everyone. During our visit, our teachers, staff, and students all gained valuable knowledge about the history and significance of energy production in Texas. We learned about the discovery of oil at Spindletop in 1901, which marked the beginning of the modern petroleum industry. The museum showcased how oil exploration and drilling technologies have evolved over time, as well as the science behind refining crude oil into useful products. Interactive exhibits and engaging displays helped bring to life the roles of geologists, engineers, and roughnecks in the energy industry. The museum also highlighted the economic and cultural impact of the oil and gas industry on Texas and the world, making the visit both educational and inspiring. We sincerely appreciate the museum’s efforts in creating a supportive and enriching environment for our students.
Azineth B — Google review
Being a former Tech Ed teacher, I enjoy the museum, but my wife was terribly bored. A lot of positive information about the oil industry, No mention of anything negative, Nothing on environmental issues.
David B — Google review
Very interesting! New to Texas so liked learning about who.were the pioneers.
JOANN S — Google review
I visited last week with family but only getting round to writing a review. A very informative and educational place but would not recommend for young children. My fourteen year old grandson just managed to hold interest because no exhibits could be touched. As a visitor to Texas I was made most welcome by the staff. No photography allowed. Apparently you can't spell energy in Texas without O-I-L but my thinking is there needs to be a more balanced view of the oil industry and the negative effects on the environment.
Emil P — Google review
Very informative museum with a lot of info on the history of oil in Texas. I would have liked to see more info on the Spindletop oil boom because that happened in Beaumont where the museum is. Minus one star for lack of accessibilty to deaf people and a broken audiovisual animatronic display on second floor. Very cheap way to kill time. Spend at least two hours taking it all in. Maybe three hours. Not enough benches near the displays to give your back and knees a rest. Obviously corporate sponsored and biased in favour of continuing oil dependence, but still informative. Google things you see in the museum to see what other sources have to say about them.
Ellis W — Google review
The Texas Energy Museum gives the history and science behind the production of fossil fuels. Very interesting and what better place for it to be in than Beaumont Texas.
Randall M — Google review
Very informative museum with many bits of history and technology of oil and gas industry with an emphasis on Texas development. However, it was completely empty when I visited which was a bit disappointing...should definitely be on the top list of places to visit in Beaumont

The Spindletop Gladys-City Boomtown Museum in Beaumont offers a fascinating journey into the late 1800s, showcasing the history of oil discovery and the town's transformation into a boomtown. The museum features authentic replicas of buildings, including a saloon and post office, as well as the only working replica oil gusher in the world.
Very cool museum to visit. Plus, being over 60 years old, it was very affordable, only $3.00 each. The staff were warm and friendly.

Stopped in on a spur of the moment decision and was pleasantly surprised. Staff was super friendly and I could talk to the blacksmith all day. It was very interesting local history and they have some really cool artefacts. The buildings were nice and cool and the price was well worth it. Bathrooms were very clean. I believe it was about $13-$15 for me and my two girls. Takes about an hour to browse through but you could definitely spend longer if you are a history buff. Definitely worth the visit if you are in the area looking for something to do on a hot or rainy day.

This was a truly interesting visit. It was a great walk through history of the oil field and how it was developed. You get a glimpse into everyday life in the development days.

The Spindletop Museum of Beaumont offers a captivating journey back in time. Each room exudes a unique atmosphere, providing an immersive experience. It’s a delight for kids, and the antique machines add an intriguing touch. Summer visits are enjoyable but be sure to take shade and stay hydrated. Highly recommended for history enthusiasts and families alike.

It is a cute old west town. You can imagine a movie made here. It is important because it shows a pivotal part of Texas history. The discovery of this oil gusher marks the development of the car industry because there was enough oil to service those cars.

Very nice place that takes you back in time. The place is built like an old town from the early 1900s
Richard S — Google review
Have to admit, I did not have high hopes but was very pleasantly surprised! The movie is VERY basic, but shares lots of interesting things I never knew! The buildings are very well done and maintained. Lots of really cool oldstuff. Great way to spend a few hours.

Unexpectedly awesome little museum! Easy to see very quickly or take your time and still be done in an hour or so. Tools, machines, and lots of daily living artifacts make this a must-see while in Beaumont. The energy in a barrel of oil has freed humans from manual labor worldwide. (And now let’s move on…) Air conditioned throughout and at 12 noon a gushing hydrant shoots 6,000 gallons of water into the sky in 2 minutes! I recommend it!

Gardens
Nestled within the expansive Tyrell Park, Beaumont Botanical Gardens spans 23 acres and offers a variety of themed gardens, including camellias, modern and antique roses, bromeliads, and native plants. The Warren Loose Conservatory is a notable feature, housing 10,000 square feet of diverse plant life and ponds. Visitors can stroll along the paved Friendship Walk to admire the gardens' beauty while enjoying easy access for strollers and wheelchairs.
I just had my wedding here and the Botanical Gardens really worked hard to have everything ready to go when we needed it. The space was perfect for a large party or a small intimate gathering like we had! What a perfect kitchen for catering. And the gardens in bloom made for the best picture and atmosphere.
Kathryn F — Google review
It was small enough that we saw the whole thing in 1hr, bearing in mind that the building was closed so we only saw the outdoor garden. It was a decent botanic garden, not bad, not great. We saw butterflies, bees, a rabbit, a bird, a lizard, and a snake (which I think may have been a copperhead—beware, this guy was in the section near the entry gate, nowhere near the area that has the 'watch out for snakes' sign).

We went in the evening. It was nice and shaded. There were not many other guests at this time, which made the visit nice. The pond contained several turtles. Not all the flower/plant varieties were in bloom, but I'm sure it would be nice when they are.

Beautiful flower garden with a small pond, and an indoor conservatory green house. The indoor part was closed today, I am not sure why, but it is usually open. It's a great place for pictures, picnics, and nice strolls. I would go late evening or early morning because right now it is 97 degrees with the heat index higher. But over all a very nice place to go
Magan I — Google review
Nice garden to walk through on a beautiful day. I was bummed the conservatory was closed, although it states online and at the door they were open Saturday from 10am-1pm. I arrived at 10:50am and the closed sign was on the door. The garden itself is nice and peaceful. You can walk your dogs as long as they are on a leash. Restrooms were at another building near the parking lot. It's great that it is free! The golf course nearby makes you feel not so alone, so don't worry if you see a golf cart speed by!

Went on a family art day I found on Facebook. Lots of volunteer helpers and age-appropriate activities for the little ones: clay vessels, Valentines Day cards, scratch art, presidents day beards, mardi gras cookies, and lemonade. Friendly faces, clean areas, and most importantly, a chance for children to be in an artsy environment. The gallery had interesting pieces as well, with staff who can explain what you're looking at. Will look out for more activities throughout the year.

I was really looking forward to spending my day off at the museum but when I walked up there was a sign saying it was closed today. No information about it being closed on the website. Hopefully the next time I’m able to spend an afternoon here they are open.
Sarah S — Google review
We entered and wanted to use the restroom before we explored. They stopped us and asked me, “Do you see the signs? The floors are wet. Did you come in just to use the restrooms?” We said no. The signs for wet floor had been set up on dry floors everywhere PRIOR TO MOPPING. The lady started interrupting my questions about where to walk with directions on where we needed to move to so she could mop. Then took out the mop. We stood there wondering what to do, so we asked if we could have a map. The desk attendant said, “Uh, no. We’re small. Two of our exhibits are under construction but you can go see our cafe’.” We looked at each other and laughed. Okay. We get it. You don’t want people in your museum or on your floors. We’ve never been here after all these years. No one was here but us, and they couldn’t have been more quick at letting us know they would rather keep the place empty, clean, and quiet. The desk attendant spoke quite condescendingly to us, like we were idiots from ignoring the wet floor sign on a dry floor. Get new attendants. Who realize visitors must walk in and actually see what exhibits and attractions are there for viewing.

Bakery
Rao's Bakery Coffee Cafe is a beloved local chain that has been serving up a mix of southern flavors and international influences for over 80 years. This hometown bakery offers an array of treats from morning kolaches to authentic Italian espresso and gelato. Visitors can indulge in gourmet muffins, oversized pastries, and homemade paninis for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. During Mardi Gras season, Rao's is known for crafting the best King Cakes in town.
These kolaches are almost as good as Mrs. Bisendorf's and Jordan's Bakery (no longer in business). The dough is so light and buttery, the filling is just enough to make you want another bite. Going to try to get there earlier to get more of them. These are sooooo good. (Dough with meat inside is called a Klobasnek)

On our way back to Houston, we saw 2 of your ads talking about this King cake. Coming back from Luisiana and not having a chance to get one there, we thought this was a "sign" to get one 😉. We Googled your store and you guys didn't disappoint. Everything looks delicious. And the person who helped us while she was setting up the cakes today, was very nice and friendly. She helped us decided what flavor to take and she even checked out.

I have tried almost every. Single. Item on this menu over the past 2 years. Everything is divine. BUT if I could beg them to tweak ONE thing- as a fellow baker- the cheesecake fillings. I’m not sure why it hasn’t been fixed already, but it needs a tad bit of sweet and condensed milk and some lemon juice to make it actually taste like cheesecake. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten a chunk of plain of cream cheese while testing the desserts.

This was my first visit here (along with my husband). I had a flat white - if you love HOT coffee that stays hot for a long time, this is for you! I had to double up on sleeves it was so hot. I was so excited! I'm always complaining about the coffee not being hot enough or staying hot for very long when I get a coffee out somewhere. It had a nice flavor as well- no bitter notes. My husband had the French roast coffee - he said their description of it was pretty spot on. (I believe he read it on something while I was waiting on mine. He said it was kind of smoky.) We were very tempted to get some of the food/ dessert, but we just weren't hungry at all. It looked delicious, though! The atmosphere-- it felt like being in a small town coffee shop or of a Hallmark movie. I can't quite say why exactly, but maybe a combination of the background music, friendly faces, cozy atmosphere. I would love to come back again to eat in the shop!

This is a wonderful little bakery and coffee shop! They have an extensive and impressive selection of drinks and baked goods. The muffins and cakes were delicious. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. I was with a friend who is an avid coffee and espresso lover, and he said this was some of the best espresso he has ever had. Definitely recommend this local coffee shop.

My husband and I are on the road again. We're at the beginning of a lifestyle change and have committed to going all in with a plant-based diet, so we were eager to see what JWilson’s in Beaumont, TX, had to offer after reading some great reviews. While it's not a strictly vegan restaurant, the team went above and beyond to accommodate us. Our server kindly asked the manager to stop by our table, and she personally made sure we had delicious plant-based options to choose from. We ended up ordering a veggie plate and two salads, and everything was flavorful, fresh, and surprisingly filling. My husband is still talking about his salad — and we were both impressed with the personalized service. The manager’s attentiveness really made a difference. JWilson’s was a great find. It’s definitely a spot we’ll consider again the next time we’re in the area.

If you have not had the opportunity to eat at J Wilson’s in Beaumont you are missing out. From the phenomenal services and extraordinary food. We stopped by last week and were so impressed we drove from Cleveland Texas today to go back. Our server Randall was so attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Dallin went over and beyond to make sure our experience was perfect. My recommendation: the Man Candy for appetizer and make sure you end your meal with the white chocolate raspberry bread pudding! Picture of my meal: spinach sun dried tomato chicken ❤️

Love the ribeye here it’s my favorite and it’s a nice whiskey bar they have so many whiskeys you almost can’t request a drink and they don’t have it! It’s so convenient and the food is so good give them a try you won’t regret it

Stopped here our way through for vacation. Fast seating even on Saturday night. Music isn't too loud, tables aren't crammed together, lighting is a bit dark but decor is nice. Comfortable and nicely air-conditioned. The server (Randall?) was very attentive and on top of soda refills. I had the house crab cakes. They were perfectly seasoned and had a great pan-fried crisp on the bottom. Lots of meat and not too much filler. Would prefer a bit more of the sauce and lemon but still delicious. Husband had the sun-dried tomato chicken. Huge portion, variety of vegetables and he enjoyed it though it had a bit too much black pepper. He ordered the crème brûlée for dessert and it was massive and perfectly caramelized. I had the pineapple upside-down cake and it was a large portion as well. Moist cake, fresh whipped cream, very enjoyable. Thanks for a nice stop on our trip.

Review on Mina with carmelas in Beaumont. Carmela’s food smelled so good walking in, that is always a plus. Great server, very clean right down to the utensils and floors. Lots of food on the menu to choose from and great red spicy salsa to accompany the very fresh warm slightly salted chips. Our waitress/server was Senorita Mina Her service blew us away. She was sweet, attentive, a great listener, and satisfied our every need. I could tell she has been a waitress for a very long time. My husband has a tomato allergy, and she went out of her way to ensure none of the items served to him has any tomato products. He received two refried beans because no tomato sauce. He did not have any of the salsa, charro beans, or rice. Then I ask for cheese, and she brought it right away. Food portions were a nice size. She made sure we had everything we wanted and needed and ensured our food was to our satisfaction. Thank you, Mina, for making these first-time visitors experience amazing and joyful. We will be returning in the future. Keep letting your beautiful light shine.

I usually don't like Mexican food, but this has been by far the best Mexican food I've ever had! There was no wait when we got to the restaurant and service was very fast. Once we put our order in, the food came out within 15 minutes. The portions were quite large (which is great for leftovers!), the rice was very flavorful, the meat was very tender, and the vegetable soup is to die for!

Our waiter was in training but was catching on pretty fast was able to take the order with no mistakes ! he was in training but that didn't stop the woman training him from providing us with great service ! She has been a waitress for 15 plus years she said and it showed , filled drinks without having to ask , refilled chips when they got low everything was on point . The only issue was with the parking its hard to get in because there is limited parking most people park on the side road next to Harmony science academy. Other than the parking its got great food , friendly staff and small bar inside !!

Cajun restaurant
Tia Juanita's Fish Camp is a lively eatery known for its Mexican and Cajun-Creole seafood dishes. The restaurant offers a vibrant atmosphere with live music, New Orleans-style cocktails, and frozen drink flights. It's a popular spot with wood-paneled walls and a 'fish camp' concept that pays homage to the area's fishing culture.
This is our new favorite restaurant. It is a cajun restaurant with a flare of Mexican or vice versa. They had the best food that we have had in a while. Everything we had was great. My wife and her friend had the seafood platter. This is the first time I have seen a real seafood platter like this in a long time. My buddy had the Blacjened Redfish Pontchartrain, I had the shrimp poboy. For appetizers we had gatir bites and Mexican cocktail. When I say this place was a 10 I am not exaggerating We absolutely can't wait to go back.

We visited this place on our way to Houston from New Orleans, after enjoying the crystal beach near by. Ordered their shrimp Po Boys, stuffed mushroom and main dish with fish. The stuffed mushroom with oysters was to die for, the sauce is so good. Had a pretty good lunch
Spandhana B — Google review
It's very rare that I review anything when it's not just wonderful but I was really hungry and I was really excited about this place because we're not from here and we did a bunch of research on all the different options that had Seafood in the area. The service was not bad, my server was just new and didn't really have a lot of answers to some basic questions and gave some incorrect answers but everybody has to learn so I give the service a pass with a four even though it's probably worse than that but just because he was new not because he didn't care. The atmosphere was fine there wasn't anything wrong. It wasn't appealing necessarily the way the tables are all sprawled out and just kind of chaotic but I think they have live music on Wednesday Thursday and Friday's and that's probably good so I gave it a 4 star instead of a 3 like it probably deserved. Now on to the food, it was just okay. It wasn't necessarily bad it just was very Bland I got the catfish and fried shrimp with french fries and it was just very very bland and boring. I asked for some seasoning salt and that helped but there's just no way to get seasoning inside of something fried as good as when you do it before you fry it. Everybody was pretty nice and again it wasn't bad it just wasn't great. The price for 6 fried shrimp and three pieces of fish and french fries and a coke was only $18 including tax so the prices aren't outrageous. If I lived in the area I would give it another shot but because I don't I definitely won't.

Passing through town trying to out run the latest storm-got into Beaumont, checked into hotel and asked front desk for recommendations for sea food-they said Tia Juanita’s. We were pleased with the humor in the decor and the service-we were sat quickly at a quiet comfortable side table I ordered the 4 piece fish/3 jumbo fish, fried with baked potato instead of fries. The catfish was tender and fresh, the potato was loaded with sour cream and butter as I asked. Hubs had the taco plate and they were consumed so quickly, I didn’t have time to take a picture! 😀 Would have enjoyed one of their frozen concoctions-but we were road tired and had to get back on the road early next morning. We look forward to visiting again next time we pass thru.

The food was amazing—you could really taste the local culture in every bite. The mix of Cajun flavors with traditional Mexican cuisine was unique and delicious. Our server, Angel, was super friendly and helpful. We loved his food recommendations! Definitely a great spot to stop and eat if you’re passing through and want a real taste of the area.

Sweet spot. For vegans, they made me corn tortilla fajita veggies custom without butter. If you eat oysters the oysters were fresh and the salsa was very good too!

This is the 2nd location I've tried. Staff was friendly, the menu seemed to have less options for someone who doesn't eat seafood verse the Port Arthur location. The rest of my group has seafood owns and loved it. The portions are a good size. The roast beef po boy was good, the bread was appetite too crisp on the outside making it hard to dip in the gravy. But overall it was a good meal.

I go here all the time. It’s an awesome place to eat and drink. The food is amazing. Sometimes they have live music and crawfish season. It’s a must try. It gets busy as sometimes but just have more drinks while you wait for your table.

Mexican restaurant
Tacos La Bamba is a vibrant and casual eatery that serves up traditional Mexican cuisine in a lively setting. Originally started as a small operation by a father-son duo, it has evolved into a family venture. The colorful interior, adorned with hand-painted tables and murals, reflects the rich Mexican culture and sets the stage for festive gatherings. With affordable options like $1 taco nights and 20 for $20 platters, it's an ideal spot for budget-friendly family meals.
Loved it! If a place has been in business for 27 years (as of the date of this review), they are doing something right. 😉 A hole in the wall appearance from outside but inside, the atmosphere is great. Friendly staff and vivid colorful interiors welcome you. You have to pre-order. I was there for lunch with a friend and we tried out Barbacoa Quesadilla and Chicken Tacos. The restaurant was kind enough to give us chips and salsa on the house. Much appreciated. Seems to be a popular spot. Quite a lot of people came in once we were seated. It's easy to miss if you are driving by, so you just have to keep an eye out.

Tacos were great!! The rice & beans were nothing to write home about, but the chips & salsa were great too.

Don't Miss This Hidden Gem! Tacos La Bamba is an absolute treasure tucked away on the corner of Calder and 4th Street. Its unassuming storefront is easy to miss, but trust me—it's worth seeking out. I was introduced by co-workers and I'm so grateful I was! The woman at the counter was wonderfully friendly; when I mentioned it was my first time, she warmly told me I'd been missing out. And she was completely right. As a barbacoa lover, I had to try it. I got it on both flour and corn tortillas, and it was incredibly flavorful and tender. I also made sure to sample their array of sauces. They have a great range from a tangy green salsa to a spicy red one, which ended up being my favorite. This first visit was fantastic, and I'm already looking forward to returning to work my way through the rest of their menu. Highly recommend

A staple of Beaumont. The best place in town for street taco truck style tacos 🌮 in my opinion. The best prices and basically a much cooler version of chipotle with way more flavor lower prices and better service. Will be back for more 🌮 and to try the breakfast. Thanks yall ‼️

Don't make a taco run anywhere else until you have tried the barbacoa tacos here. Unbelievably flavorful and perfect with the salsa verde and a fresh squeeze of lime. Pair it with an ice cold horchata and you won't want to go anywhere else for tacos ever again.
