Nature & Parks
Park
Bastrop State Park, located in a county of the same name, spans 7,400 acres and offers a wide range of outdoor activities such as biking, swimming, hiking, birding, fishing and geocaching. The park features 78 single-family campsites for tent camping as well as historic cabins from the 1930s available for rent. Visitors can enjoy fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding at the Colorado River.
Bastrop State Park, located about 30 miles east of Austin, is a beautiful and peaceful retreat in the unique Lost Pines ecosystem. The park is spacious and scenic, with over 6,600 acres of pine forest, trails, and wildlife. We stayed at Site 77 and had a great time — the site was clean, quiet, and conveniently located. The seasonal swimming pool was a great way to cool off, just note that it requires a separate reservation. Overall, a great spot for camping, hiking, and relaxing in nature!

Did a lost pines loop on weekend. The north part of the trail goes deep into the forest. The South part is more on the open. A few CCC buildings on the route, a few people on the route. Very peaceful.

Nice park, well maintained, clean and the camp sites are well kept. It’s a great place to ride bikes. There are nice flat areas for families with kids and there are some real challenging hills if you are looking for a longer ride. You can ride the park road 1A or 1C 13+ miles to Buescher state park. The roads are well maintained and very light traffic. Plenty of side roads to explore along the way. Very much worth the $5. Per person park fee.

Beautiful Texas State Park with lots of hiking options, which I really appreciate. The views are beautiful. I never saw it after the fires but from my uneducated eye, it seems to be recovering well. My photos are from a month ago. I bet it's even prettier in the fall. Lot's of history. Apparently there was a golf course here, in the past?
Kaitlin B — Google review
Well run state park leas than 2 hours from Houston. Multiple campsites. Facility was excellent with climate controlled bathrooms and wash area. Some campsites are near to highway and you can hear traffic. Not too many trails. There is a YMCA pool inside the park but was closed when visiting in May. Campground caters for large groups and scouts.
Pog E — Google review
So many trails to choose from! We only had time to hike one trail but I wish we would've been able to stay the day. My son loved seeing all of the lizards. They were everywhere! We will definitely be coming back to see more of the park
Kelsie P — Google review
The pine trees there are amazing and the historical cabins are pretty cool! I definitely recommend going down the scenic view from Bastrop State Park to buescher State Park!
Nova A — Google review
This is a beautiful park with lots of great amenities, BUT a couple of things are helpful to know in advance. Be sure to check the alerts on the park’s website before your trip—I missed the temporary burn ban and wasn’t able to use a grill or campfire, which cut my stay short since I had brought meals that needed cooking. I’m totally to blame for overlooking it. If you’re tent camping, the "Deer Run" sites are close to Hwy 71, so you may notice traffic noise at night and the occasional headlight through the trees. Light sleepers might want to pack earplugs or look at other camping loops for a quieter experience. One feature I really loved was the dish-washing station—it’s such a convenient touch that made cleanup easy. Overall, the park is lovely, and with a little preparation, it’s a great place to enjoy the outdoors.

Visitor Centers
The Bastrop County Museum & Visitor Center is a charming destination located in Central Texas, known for its migration of loblolly pine trees from East Texas. This natural playground offers endless opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts, with activities like fishing, swimming, kayaking, and paddle boarding available at Bastrop State Park and the Colorado River. Visitors can also explore the historic district and enjoy local artwork from talented artists.
This is a well curated local museum with tons of local history crammed into a compact space. The kids loved the scavenger hunt and it was challenging enough to keep them engaged and interested in the history.

Thank you, Ron, for a fabulous personalised tour of the excellent museum. We learned so much history in a short space of time which really enhanced our trip through Texas, Louisiana and beyond. From two appreciative Brits!

Small but great Museum. Definitely worth visiting. My eight year old enjoyed our visit here.We received a very warm welcome when we first walked in. Wonderful people running this place.

We attended a slide show and lecture about the two original railroads which served Bastrop County. The lecture hall was full. The museum has a nice small gift shop, and the volunteers and staff were very friendly.

First time visiting the museum and we had a great time, a lot of interesting things to see, the staff is very friendly, we were welcomed by a sweet lady called Gloria, she was very attentive and helpful. I’d recommend!

Never seen a finer curation—immaculate presentation of content, with an intuitive grasp of history. And Adela! She was such a kind little docent who welcomed us in as the face of Bastrop Past. Loved it!

Wonderful Thursday night meeting of the Bastrop County Historical Society! It was free even for non-members. Very informative presentations and a really great team of volunteers.

We were vendors at the Christmas Saturdays event. The Bastrop County Museum & Visitor's Center was nearby and offered restroom access to whomever. While going in and out, I had the opportunity to meet the lovely ladies who work there. Truly kind people. I also took advantage and looked at the artwork from local artists. We have so many gifted artists in Bastrop County. A visit to the Museum would be thoroughly enjoyable for anyone. I highly recommend it. And say hi to whomever is working that day. I promise you that you will be glad you did.

Shopping
Lost Pines Art Center is a stunning establishment with friendly personnel and talented artists. Upon arrival, visitors can conveniently sign in near the entrance, although parking may be limited. However, ample street parking is available nearby. Notably, there is a captivating sculpture of Marylin Monroe close by. The premises also boast a fenced-in courtyard featuring repurposed silos that now serve as unique art spaces for activities like blown glass demonstrations.
This facility is gorgeous. Artwork from local artists rotates monthly. Wine and snacks every First Friday, regular classes for artists at all levels, and great events on a regular basis. You can view and purchase art any day of the week. Local artists have shops upstairs. A great place to view, buy, and make art!
Tracy L — Google review
A nice little art space. Not a ton of artwork, but a nice selection of what seemed to be local artists. My husband was looking at an interesting painting and an employee/volunteer/guide (?) walked up and started talking to him about it. It turned out he was the artist! If you go in, be sure to check out the beautiful floor mosaic in the large meeting room!
Gretchen D — Google review
Really nice space just not much art at the time I visited. They were preparing for an art festival. I'm looking forward to attending that event.

Friendly staff/artists. Sign-in near entrance. Parking is limited, but street parking is ample. Near cool sculpture of Marylin Monroe. Space includes fenced in courtyard with several revamped silos now used as art spaces--blown glass demonstrations, etc. Clean bathrooms. Upstairs. Coffee shop near entrance. Excellent art pieces, of course.

Loved this place! Just the architecture alone was great. It had some really awesome art pieces you wouldn't think you'd find in such a small town. Definitely recommend it.

New phenomenal artists gracing the walls! Nice collection of great art at great prices.
Debbie B — Google review
I normally do my work on my laptop. And that's generally where I end up in for the day. Despite all the business I have I am primarily a film maker, which makes me an artist. Because of this, where I choose to create has to be rich in culture, relaxing, peaceful, and inspiring. The Lost Pines Art Centre is all of this and so much more. There is a cafe called the Blessed Bee that provides me with food and drinks. Their coffee is amazing second only to the mead that they brew in house. If you come to the Art Centre you definitely have to stop in for some snacks. When I first came I was immediately greeted by a host who was full of information about the place and was able to answer all my questions. Then when I promptly excused myself to grab a cup of coffee I was left alone in peace. I love this place. Considerate and polite people. Wonderful ambience. Can't rate it any higher than 5 stars or else I would have. If you are in Bastrop TX you need to check this place out.

I thoroughly enjoy being involved in this fantastic community theater, the Bastrop Opera House. When I relocated to Bastrop, a friend encouraged me to volunteer, and I was warmly welcomed by Lisa Holcomb and the locals. Over the past five years, I have had incredible opportunities to contribute to children's musicals, act on stage, and even direct shows. Not only are the productions of high quality with exceptional artistry, but being a part of this company is truly wonderful.
We saw A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder and it was awesome. They are generous and I hope the community will continue to support the artists! I brought my husband and brother-in-law who typically are not into musicals and even they had a good time, so give it a shot!

Every performance I have ever seen at the Bastrop Alper house is amazing. If you have been, you know what I’m talking about if you have not then what are you waiting for? How about taking your partner out for a nice date and a show at the Opera House? It is an incredibly beautiful place. You would be supporting one of the oldest and most lovely “things “left in Bastrop.

Distillery
Food & Drink
Copper Shot Distillery is an ideal spot for group gatherings, offering a weekend filled with laughter, cherished moments, delightful beverages, and tobacco products. The owner, Stephen, provides an exclusive tour of the distillery along with a historical account of the establishment. While enjoying their intricately crafted cocktails like the old fashioned and The Godfather, patrons are particularly captivated by the delectable pecan shine in the latter. Additionally, visitors can revel in live performances by talented bands during nighttime.
Whiskey. Cigar Lounge. Live Music. Spent an afternoon strolling Bastrop’s Main St. Great bookstore, amazing restaurant, and local shops. The Copper Shot was the cherry on top. Staff were more than friendly and knowledgeable in their respective crafts of spirits and cigars. Started off with a memorable Texas Honey Whiskey Old Fashion while lounging on rocking chairs in the patio. Then moved on into the cigar lounge area (indoor and outdoor) where the bartenders paired a tasty whiskey concoction with the perfect cigar. There’s great live music that can be enjoyed from the cigar lounge and the Copper Shot patio. Shout out to Bill. His professionalism and hospitality added to an already enjoyable and excellent experience.
Michael S — Google review
Just okay, the drinks are overpriced and the staff can barely be bothered to serve us let along engage. The atmosphere is nice and the band was setting up as we were leaving.
Amanda M — Google review
Elaborately decorated bar serving cocktails and shots built around the distillery's line of liquors, including whiskey, room, vodka, and moonshine. The great bartender was welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed a flight of flavored juices with moonshine and entertained ourselves with the wood and metal puzzles at the bar. Next we tried some of their wonderful cocktails, including a honey mule and frozen blackberry margarita. They also seek full bottles of their liquors. They have several tables inside and a covered patio out back with more tables and chairs.

Copper Shot Distillery is one of the most unique and inviting bars in Bastrop, located just east of Austin. Among its many standout features is the customizable Bloody Mary bar, where guests can enhance their cocktails with a wide array of garnishes—ranging from pickled vegetables to olives and an impressive lineup of hot sauces. Although the Bloody Mary isn’t always listed on the printed menu, ask for their “Bastrop Bloody”—a house-made cocktail crafted with their signature Sweet Potato Shine, Zing Zang® mix, Worcestershire, and a special garlic kick. Once you order, you’re free to personalize it using the garnish station tucked in the corner. Beyond cocktails, Copper Shot also distills a range of flavored whiskeys using a fusion process—where ingredients like fruit, herbs, or spices are soaked directly in the finished spirit to infuse flavor. This method contrasts with adding ingredients during fermentation or distillation, which is generally discouraged—especially with delicate fruits like strawberries. The high heat of distillation destroys subtle berry aromas, and strawberries introduce wild yeasts and excess sugar that complicate the process. Instead, post-distillation infusion is the preferred technique. Two common methods are: Maceration: Slice fresh strawberries and soak them in whiskey for several days in a sealed jar, then strain. Sweetened infusion: Add a bit of simple syrup to round out the flavor and reduce tartness. Copper Shot Distillery embraces this approach, offering bold and nuanced flavors in a relaxed, rustic setting.

I received fantastic service and absolutely delicious cocktails. The Bloody Mary was to die for! I tried a variety of different liquors. Also if you bring empty bottles back in they'll give you $10 off on refills. The distillery itself is gorgeous. Spacious with rustic views. Also the humidor area had a HUGE selection of cigars and other tobacco products. This is my new home away from home. I love this place and can't wait to come back!

Really cool bar. I'm not 21 so I can't confirm how good the drinks are however I did try the hot chocolate and it is very good. Tasted like real chocolate. I came here to see my friends concert and it's a great venue for listening to music. They have an open patio and some seats to sit outside. Nice stylized bar that seems like something from an old west town. Would come back especially for another concert

An Absolute Must-Visit if you're in Bastrop! Copper Shot is a charming little distillery on the edge of downtown serving moonshine, vodka and whiskey- as well as mixed drinks. We live in Dallas but checked this place out on one of our planning trips for our wedding and absolutely loved it. I had a few mixed drinks and a flight of moonshine. They even have a cigar area and live music on the weekends! Our first time here, we loved meeting the owner and just chatting with other guests on the patio. Fast forward a year to our wedding weekend: I wanted to make sure our guests checked this place out, but it wasn't big enough for any of the formal events (our rehearsal dinner was 70 people, for reference). I made the impromptu decision on Thursday to tell anyone who was in town to meet at Copper Shot around 4:30 Friday for a drink before rehearsal dinner. It was absolutely perfect. Our friends and families mingled, tried new drinks, and enjoyed the setting. Several folks signed the tables to remember our wedding weekend. I had a few whiskey-amaretto sours, which were delicious. Everyone commented on what a cool place it was, and plenty more of our guests checked it out on their own time. The only drawback is that, typical of a small town, they close early. If you want to party until 2am, you'll have to move locations. My husband and I just fell in love with this town during the planning, and even more so during the week of our wedding. I can't imagine coming back to Bastrop without stopping at Copper Shot.

Roadhouse Bastrop is a family-friendly grill known for its delicious burgers, sandwiches, and vegetarian options. The rustic charm of the wood-sided building and patio creates a welcoming atmosphere to enjoy their award-winning food. This eatery has been serving old-fashioned themed dishes since 2004 and has been recognized as the best burger spot in Bastrop for an impressive 16 years in a row.
After six years, this was our second visit – and my wife’s original statement, “best burger ever,” still holds true. Friendly staff and delicious burgers. If we return to Bottrop, we’ll definitely stop by again.

I wish I got our waitresses name because she was so sweet and very accommodating to our needs. (Pretty eyes with a piercing) Will for sure come back to dine in this establishment if I’m ever in the area again. I probably wouldn’t order the chili cheese fries just because the shredded cheese seemed too dry for my liking but it had a good flavor to it. The hamburgers are huge but very tasty.

We waited until after 3pm to miss the lunch crowd, we did not miss the crowd. Thankfully, they have additional indoor areas. So, accommodations... good. Servers were very friendly and informative. They also have different recipe buns that accentuate the whole burger experience. Jalapeno / cheese bun for me, thank you very much. So, beef good. Really good burger and was made to perfection. If you drive by and your hungry, just stop. You will not regret it, it was really tasty.

I can’t remember if I have left a review at this place or not but if I did it’s good enough to leave another one! I found out about this place through coworkers and it doesn’t disappoint. The service is fast and the burgers are good! Everytime I’m in the area I stop by. It’s a highly recommend place to go. They bought the building next door so now there’s more room for seating. I get the western burger with no onions and it hits the spot. I also get the peanut butter chocolate milkshake! Prices are good as well. Worth the money!

There’s a lot of buzz about this spot—and after finally checking it out, I can confidently say the hype is real. The menu is packed with incredible options, from comfort food favorites to creative dishes you don’t always see in a small-town restaurant. The service was just as impressive—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. If you’re passing through Bastrop, this place is definitely worth the stop.

Order 2 Chicago style hot dogs about 40 to 50 minutes before pick up got there at 7 o'clock. They were not ready. I waited 24 minutes longer. I walked in the door as a woman was coming out. I said, what's the name on that order? She says it starts with a C i said that's me, she said, i'm very sorry. Your food has been overpriced ever since COVID. Your staff has always been underpaid and I'm guessing, but I don't know that your landlord is the one who wants a percentage of your profits on top of the rent. If you can't run a business equally and profitably, where you're at, then move to a different location and treat your employees right and adjust your prices. I am not coming back. Your employees are not my problem. They're your employees you pay them. I forgot to mention why I put the pictures of the hot dogs if you look closely. One is a full length of the bun, and the other is a regular hot dog.

Pizza restaurant
Brewpub
Nestled in the heart of historic downtown Bastrop, Neighbor's Kitchen & Yard is a charming and inviting bar with a rustic vibe. The establishment boasts a spacious riverside deck where patrons can savor pizza, draft beer, cocktails, and live music. The diverse drink menu caters to various preferences. Guests can also enjoy an inventive menu featuring unique twists on classic dishes such as pizza, calzones, soup, and salad.
In one word: Superb. We came here after numerous recommendations from locals and wow were they right. Everything was right up our alley. There was a wait of 40 minutes for a table for two on a busy Thursday evening around 7:00. We were able to order a drink and sit at the bar and the service we got was excellent from a young long man with blonde hair, I wish I knew his name so I could commend him on his friendly cheerful service. When it was time to be seated we almost stayed inside but the evening was beautiful so we went out to the patio to eat. They have a text system so we were notified by phone that our table was ready and we had 10 minutes to settle up and be seated, it was all very easy. Our waitress outside was Jackie and she was so fun, she made great recommendations, checked in with us numerous times and definitely added to the experience. The food was excellent, we had wings as an appetizer and they were great, it didn’t hurt that we were starving! I ordered a half Caesar and a figgy calzones. The salad was very good as was the calzone, I’ve never seen some of the combinations they have on their menu and I love that they are so adventurous. My husband had the meatball sandwich and he enjoyed it very much, the meatballs were perfectly cooked and not at all dry as meatballs typically are. The prices are surprisingly reasonable, we were very happy with the bill and had leftovers today! The atmosphere is fun with fiesta lights making for a great vibe. While this restaurant does have river views, most of the tables, including ours have no view. This deserves a visit and a five star rating. The restroom was clean and well stocked but tough for us tall gals, the door is so close that my knees almost touched it!

Great outdoor eatery with awesome riverside vibe. We were here for early dinner on a Sunday. We had hot lil honey and chicken pesto pizzas. Got personal size and was perfect. We didn’t drink but beer looked cold and cocktails looked fresh and delicious. Nice little stop on our way back to Houston.

We took a little day trip drive to Bastrop today and ate at Neighbor’s after visiting the bookstore on Main St. We came at around 11am on a Saturday, shortly after they opened and there were plenty of patio tables available. It did start to fill up as we ate, but even at noon, there were still open tables. They have tons of mister fans set up on the patios, so it was comfortable sitting outside. The pizzas were delicious! We also tried the homemade blueberry cobbler - it was very rich and yummy.

This is a great place for lunch. The atmosphere is great with a beautiful view of the Colorado River from the outdoor decks. The dough used for the pizza and pepperoni rolls is delicious and there is a nice variety of craft beers to go along with the meal. And of special note, Jaylen is an awesome server! She served a perfect order and checked in with us to make sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal. Additionally, she saw our dog was with us and prepared a water bowl without us asking. Thank you Jaylen!

Pizza was great but on the thin side. The wings although said to have habanero sauce were not spicy at all, but again very well cooked. My favorite was the meatballs. Perfect and moist with a nice marinara sauce. Excellent service. I can't wait to visit again and try the rest of the menu. Loved the margaritas and house salad too.

We came here on a whim and the food didn't disappoint. We picked up 2 calzones (el Camino and the ground philly). Both did not disappoint and they were so fresh. You could tell it was hand breaded and the el Camino had a nice surprise of pepperoni wrapped around the crust. We will definitely keep this place on our list for the future.

Visitors praise the amazing food and service, recommending it for those seeking home-cooked meals with a southern comfort twist.
It's one of the best restaurants I've tried in Bastrop. Loved the outdoor seating, the women at the counter was very friendly, and the food was delicious. Highly recommend the brunch menu. The spiced pumpkin bread was the best I've had. Biscuits and gravy are a must, it has a really nice spice. The croissants are light and so good. The pretzels are also super light, try both the cinnamon sugar and salted, you won't regret it. My stomach is growling while writing this review. Only one con-No ice machine or fresh drinks, everything is bottled. They do have water available, which is nice.

This place is extremely cute delicious clean and country. The baked goods looked amazing we ate breakfast. The biscuits were soft and a nice crunch on the crust with a butter flavor and were quality. The eggs were creamy soft buttery and perfect. The sausage gravy had tons of sausage pepper flavor that made me crave more! Will be back ASAP!!! Also the breakfast potatoes were seasoned well soft inside nice roasted crunch outside. The air conditioning was perfect for a hot Sunday! Coffee good and strong as well. Thank you!

Had a biscuit platter with hot, glossy scrambled eggs, two giant biscuits, sausage gravy, fresh tomato and bacon. There was also butter and cinnamon jam for the biscuits. Everything was perfectly prepared and delicious. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to biscuits and gravy. Too many places have bland gravy, but not these guys! I'll be back for sure.

We walked in this place and was kind of thinking it was JUST a bakery... I was wrong it has amazing sandwiches, and more. Their pimento grilled cheese with bacon was outstanding! Chicken salad sandwich was to die for..... Iced coffee cookies everything here was on point super friendly staff, space is clean rustic, perfect for Texas... The best part is how incredibly friendly everybody is. I watched at least four couples and between 5 and 10 singles walk in and out and every single one left with a smile or laughing... Prices are amazing, The owners were amazing and checked in on us...if you can stop here, you should. The chicken biscuits are to die for!

Simply amazing. They’re a ghost kitchen right now, but if you can, I highly recommend stopping by the community area and ordering your breakfast on their website. For 2/3 people, we had our order out in 15-20 minutes, and it continues to be the best breakfast I’ve ever had in the Austin area!!! The sausage bacon gravy and biscuits are to die for, the ham they use is to die for (and I hate ham, by the way), and their cookies!!! These folks are doing it, and they’re doing it right!! Give them your business!!! I’m updating my review 2024!!! They’ve moved to a brick and mortar place in Bastrop but the food is ever so good!!! The ham and cheese croissant is exactly the same, and the hot honey fried chicken thigh sandwich is to die for!!! You guys definitely need to get out there and give these guys your business!!!

Oh man this place is amazing! Coming into the historic downtown Bastrop is always a treat! The Bearded baker was hard at work in the back and the exquisite tastes coming out was a testament to just how much love and care goes into the food. I tried them in Austin and I was kicking myself when I heard they moved. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled across them in their new, totally renovated downtown home! The atmosphere was great, but after I tasted the food it could have been a shack for all I cared! One word DELICIOUS! It's awesome to watch a business grow and there's no doubt with food, salads, snacks, cookies, cakes, this good... this bearded bakery is going to grow far! Also, I love their new back patio!

Carolina Smash Burger - Excellent - nice amount of seasoning in the real beef patty. I love slaw on a nice “hamburguesa”. Edit 05 Oct 2021. Had the Old Glory Smash Burger today and it was excellent. Really good; the meat was perfectly seasoned. Pearls Taters - Excellent - I like the sweet dipping sauce and the crust on the potato wedges Loved the Golden Girls styled cheesecakes esp the “Aunt Sophia” with dark chocolate sprinkles The “Grackle” is my favorite of their all delicious cookie types Always check what is “available” on the site. There was a pop up salad not normally listed with quinoa which I only tolerate but the greens, vinaigrette, and seeds added really made it excellent. I was able to add the chicken-fried bacon crumbles to it. I enjoyed the Carolina slaw dog the Taylor frank was a good size and has a nice snap and color. I still prefer the Vienna Beef ones though this was a good dog. I have my eye on those brunch offerings next like the omelette sammich “Studly Farmer” and the cat head biscuits.

My husband and I fell in love with this place a few years ago. The farm to table concept makes it a special gem. Being able to eat food that is fresh and cared for properly is unparalleled. For brunch: we love the burger and black garlic fries. For dinner: we come here usually for the seafood tower. And we get the fries again. It feels like every time we come, the menu is slightly changed, and more so when the seasons turn over. The food is balanced and well seasoned. Many of their items carry a good amount of spice to them, which we love. And I don’t think I’ve ever had pickled veggies as good at Store Houses. The vibe and service: it’s definitely upscale but with an approachable and relaxed feeling. Eating Al Fresco in such a beautiful town, what more could you ask for?

This place is a farm to table restaurant. I happen to stop in during happy hour and got a half priced bramble. It was very good and hit the spot on a hot day. The grass fed burger was excellent and the fries were hot and house made. Everything I put into you could taste the local freshness. Doesn’t look like you can go wrong here on what you get. When I was there August 2025 they were about to drop a new menu. They also have wine and desserts that all sounded really good. The staff all seemed upbeat, nice, and ready to serve you. They have a nice outdoor space and have a lot of seating inside. The prices are higher than what you probably would normally pay but it’s quality over quality here and it’s worth it.

We were in town for a wedding when we stopped in for brunch. The farm to table food is what drew me in, but words do not do this place justice. Delicious food, interesting and beautiful decor, and our server was pleasant and helpful. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Is this Bastrop’s secret gourmet experience? Brunch ambience was remarkable, service was exceptional. Loved the friendliness of Matt and Joyce, thank you for sharing so much about Bastrop! The decor of both the dining space and bar are hip yet country quaint. This place marries it all on top of exceptional fare. Crab cake Benedict was a hard 5/5, French toast with local peaches transcendent. This is no hyperbole, pull off 71 as soon as you can and make a visit!

My Wife and I just enjoyed an amazing Brunch. The preparation, spices, and exceptional recipes are the best I’ve had in central Texas. We will be returning often!

The decorations make the place feel even more like old home and if you get the chance, ask for Linda the server! She's been her for 15 years!!

This place is clearly the most popular eating establishment in the historic downtown, and I expected to be absolutely delighted. After being seated after about a half hour on a weekday, we waited another few minutes before the server came over. The food offerings are extensive, and we settled on Chicken and Waffles, Chicken and Dumplings, and sides of biscuits and fried okra. The food took awhile to get there, but we knew the kitchen was very busy. The chicken and waffles, the huge biscuits, and the fried okra were all very good, though the chicken was left in the fryer a bit longer than I prefer. The Chicken and Dumplings, on the other hand, I simply couldn’t eat. They were so heavily laden with herbs (parsley?) that my usual go-to comfort food was inedible. On the whole, it was a good experience, but now I know what not to order.

Best chicken and waffles I've ever had !!!!!!!!!!!!! Yummy! Post trip edit: It took a little bit of time to get sat with a group of our size but both waitresses were very prompt with getting us taken care of! I wish I got the ladies names since they did such a great job! A read headed woman and a brunette. Both ladies were so friendly and made our visit even more enjoyable! The mimosas were PERFECT! I loved the mason jars for all our drinks too, I feel like it makes it taste better haha While the chicken and waffles are my personal highlight of the day, all the extra sides I got to taste were great! The biscuit was HUGE and made perfectly. Buttery and salty, dense but still very moist. Fried green tomatoes were delicious and so were the sweet potato fries! Our group will be coming back asap!!

I love to travel. Finding new places to eat is a big part of traveling for me. I particularly enjoy finding out of the way restaurants to try. Bastrop Texas is a very nice town kind of off the beaten path but real Texas. My traveling buddy and I decided to try Maxine's for a quick breakfast stop and we were not disappointed. The service was Texas friendly. It's my kind of place. Tidy, clean, comfy with plenty of Texas memorabilia on the wall. I ordered biscuits and gravy with home fries. I know, it's an easy to prepare meal but I have had bad versions so this was a pleasant surprise. Nice crispy potatoes and super tasty gravy on tender, fluffy biscuits. Just the kind of meal you would expect in Texas. Hearty and great tasting. Prices are very reasonable and like I said the service and atmosphere just what we were looking for in the great state of Texas. If you are hungry and in the area you should definitely give it a try.

The food was good depending on what you had. My wife's chicken fried chicken was cooked so crispy she had to pull all breading off to eat it. I ordered the catfish it was tasty. However the tater sauce for the fish was runny and had way to much vinegar in it. Service was good but slow they were real busy it was a Saturday with many people out.

When I come to Bastrop to visit my dear friends, they make sure to take us here for breakfast because this is their go-to. Portions are always large, and thr food is always phenomenal. I look forward to my next Bastrop visit so I can try and tackling their pancakes!

Visited town and chose this place for the pies. The chocolate pie was barely chocolate flavored. And the waitress brought this piece of cheesecake and literally said, the center collapsed so this is the best I could do. That’s ok, right?” It was the first piece cut out of the cheescake in the display case, she couldn’t try again for a better slice? And then when I started to eat it I wondered if it was even set in the center, was it meant to be liquid? The outside rim was the only firm part. I just didn’t really know what I was eating. They refunded the chocolate pie. I don’t know if I was actually eating cheesecake or not, so didn’t want to complain. I was just surprised they didn’t care at all about presentation and plopped what looked like something scraped together at home as leftovers. Kid waitresses. All.

The cornbread loaf that came with the avocado toast was amazing. The service was also great. Drinks served in mason jars were a nice touch.
