Seaside

Seaside is a small resort city in northwestern Oregon. Its beach is known for surf breaks and a 1920s promenade. The Seaside Aquarium has touch tanks and a seal exhibit. To the south, Tillamook Head National Recreation Trail climbs a forested cape to Ecola State Park, with views of the 19th-century Tillamook Rock Lighthouse. Rich wildlife includes eagles in the Necanicum River estuary and migrating gray whales.

Aquarium
Nature & Parks
Established in 1937, the Seaside Aquarium is one of the oldest aquariums globally and a popular attraction for families. It features touch tanks, discovery centers, and adorable Seaside Harbor seals. The indoor exhibit ensures a dry visit. Situated near the Turnaround on the promenade, this West Coast aquarium showcases various marine life from the Pacific Ocean. Visitors can feed otters, observe diverse fish species, and interact with a touch tank.
Great experience! We got to feed the seals for $2 a plate of fish! We also got to look at some of the aquatic life that is home to the area. In total we got the family bundle which was $36 for a maximum of 6 people. Great price!! Don't expect a huge huge Aquarium, small but sweet
Miguel — Google review
My teen daughter LOVED feeding the seals. The giant pacific octopus was beautiful and active. The signage above all the tanks was helpful. The staff at the touch tanks were informative and patient. Would definitely recommend this place to visitors.
Kathy B — Google review
Was really fun to feed the seals 🦭. For two dollars for about six pieces of fish. Although the actual aquarium part I would describe as a moist cave. Was small dark wet and very smelly. Has a lot of interesting information about the aquarium life. All around I spent $20 to get in $12 in fish to feed seals and a fortune at the gift shop.
Leeann B — Google review
We just stumbled upon this aquarium while on our visit to the Oregon coast. If you’re looking for a conservation type aquarium and want to see happy animals, this is not it. It is dark and depressing inside. The tanks for the animals are small/crowded. The touch tank is small with a lot of starfish which was fun for probably 20 seconds. There is an open tank/enclosure in the center of the room that has small sharks that look dead. The seal enclosure has way too many seals and is very small. The aquarium hands you a pamphlet upon entry explaining the conditions for the seals. It says that the seals have a large dry space in the back but choose to be in the public viewing area. It also says that the seals are not released into the wild because studies show that after 1 year in captivity the seals would be less likely to survive in the wild. However, they explain that they have bred all their seals in captivity for years. Meaning these seals have never been outside, some being over 20 years old.
Cora M — Google review
During our recent visit to the Seaside Aquarium, I had mixed feelings about the experience. On one hand, I appreciated the opportunity for our family to learn about a variety of marine life. It’s always good to have a place where children can be exposed to ocean species up close and gain a better understanding of the coastal ecosystem. That being said, there were some noticeable drawbacks that were hard to ignore. The biggest issue I observed was the seal enclosure, which felt far too small for the number of seals housed there. It seemed crowded, and I couldn’t help but wonder about the quality of life for the animals in such a confined space. Additionally, the overall condition of the aquarium left something to be desired. One of the tanks appeared to be leaking, and there were several areas that looked worn down or in need of repair. The facility gave off the impression of being somewhat dated and in need of refurbishment. However, there were still some positives to our visit. I particularly enjoyed the story of Victor the Lobster, which added a fun and memorable element to the experience. Overall, while educational, the aquarium clearly could benefit from some upgrades.
Bryan 4 — Google review
Small but super fun aquarium right in the middle of downtown Seaside. Very reasonable price for admission and for the fish to feed the seals. The little octopus was very active when we were visiting, which was really awesome. Feeding the seals was also really cool. Definitely worth a visit.
Robbie D — Google review
It's a nice little aquarium. The displays tanks are clean and you can spot the fish and crabs easily. Be sure to purchase seal food to feed the seals. Watch out, they like to splash you. Tip: Look for the coupons in the aquarium brochures around town.
Mark B — Google review
The aquarium is a pleasant stop along the promenade. The seals were especially entertaining, and the octopus was fascinating to watch. It’s reasonably priced and makes for a good short visit. Be aware there are no restrooms on site, so plan ahead.

Seaside Beach North Promenade, also known as "the Prom," has been a beloved attraction for over a century. This 1.5-mile stretch offers various activities such as jogging, biking, beach access, and people-watching. It's also a gateway to Seaside's best shopping and dining spots. The promenade leads to Broadway Street where visitors can explore Mo's Seafood, the Seaside Carousel Mall, and enjoy vintage bumper cars with the family.
Gorgeous historic walkway, right along the beach. You can walk from the Aquarium all the way to Painted Rock beach and the Cove. Well lit at night, clean and easy to use. Love the commerative plaques along the way. Good memories to be made when you come to Seaside.
Jennifer A — Google review
Very lovely. I walked the prom a bunch during my time in Seaside and loved the northern end.
Kate P — Google review
Beautiful area!!! Quiet at night clean and plenty of places to eat and relax near by. I really enjoyed my time at Seaside.
Michael A — Google review
Nice paved walkway with great views of the beach the whole way.
Jason W — Google review
I made a reservation by telephone. No warning about construction was given .we got there, and couldn't hear yourself talk! We weren't given the ground floor as booked by phone, and refused to stay in those conditions, and would not refund due to cancelation policies. That works, except that when we tried to cancel they never answer the phone, even after leaving message regarding tsunami warnings ⚠️ rudest customer service ever, thought it was so funny, charging $300 for a room, you couldn't hear a conversation in tour own room?!
Scott W — Google review
Just charming! We walked the prom and ended up at the beach. Had some fresh seafood. One of our favorite spots in Oregon so far!
Becky R — Google review
Had an absolute blast, this will be one of my happiest memories. We came here on a choir tour and we had a great big devotional on the beach with bonfires and smores and it was just great. Would highly recommend this place to a friend!

Shopping mall
Shopping
The Seaside Carousel Mall is a charming destination that offers a nostalgic experience with its classic carousel ride. Located just two blocks from the Pacific Ocean, it provides entertainment for both children and adults. The mall also features various shops where visitors can find unique gifts, candies, coffee, and ice cream. Additionally, the nearby Ecola State Park and Arcadia Beach State Recreation Site offer outdoor adventures and relaxing beach vibes.
You better go here!! If you have kids ride the carousel!! I have rode a few carousels at fairs recently….but this one out does them all! It rides fast and fun! I am very impressed with it! RIDE IT TODAY! The stores are a lot of fun and you can take yourself quite the gift if that is your thing. Arcade, food, and sweets to eat too.
Kenny M — Google review
The Seaside Carousel Mall brings back so many wonderful memories from when I was a child. Walking through and seeing the carousel still spinning really took me back, and it’s fantastic to see that this little mall is still up and running after all these years. It has a charming, nostalgic feel, and it’s great to see families and kids enjoying it today just like I did back then. A true Seaside treasure!
Kenneth R — Google review
The carousel mall offers an exceptional experience for families. Over the years, I have taken my children to the seaside, and they consistently enjoy riding the carousel . The arcade provides a great source of entertainment as well. Additionally, the staff members are exceptionally courteous and helpful. Moreover, the variety of charming shops enhances the overall appeal of the mall.
Mrs. S — Google review
The kids love coming here whenever we’re in seaside!
Lara V — Google review
The toy store here is amazing (Stuffed animals galore!) and the mall has the most beautiful carousel
Angela N — Google review
Very touristic shops, arcade games, ice cream and merry go rounds are there. So much fun and my teenagers and toddler had a blast time. But they changed the cash only.
Morai B — Google review
Seaside overall left a sad feeling on us. It's a small town on the Oregon Pacific coast with a nice long and wide beach and a small town center. However, the town itself was boring with almost nothing to do nor see. I wouldn't call this place a mall, at least in terms we're used to. It's a small, single level low key shopping/eating/entertainment complex. Carousel is in the middle of it, giving it some kind of nostalgia and we found a very good Chinese beside it
Dejan B — Google review
This was an awesome mall with a store with a large variety of hats, as well as an awesome arcade and carousel. I would recommend going here. They also had s A large toy store with very many options to chose of.

Seaside Beach is a family-friendly destination with numerous dining and shopping options along the beach. It features a long boardwalk and offers an expansive view, making it perfect for leisurely strolls. While lacking the rock formations of Cannon Beach, Seaside provides a vibrant atmosphere with plenty to explore on foot. The downtown area allows for convenient beach access, although parking can be limited. Visitors can enjoy relaxing on the blanket or taking a quick walk while observing various wildlife such as pelicans.
Cute, foggy beach town. Little main Street with all of the typical touristy shops you would imagine. My favorite part was the beach at low tide, there were little ponds and rivers on the shore itself as well as tons of sea dollars. In the morning when the tide is low there are lots of people out digging for clams too. If you walk to the north side of the beach, you can see the Tillamook Rock with the lighthouse on it. (Harder to see in the fog but you can still make it out) I put my feet in the water, it was the middle of July and ice cold. So it's not really a swimmable beach and the waves look like they're pretty treacherous. But beautiful to walk on.
Chelsie K — Google review
Saw three sunsets in a row on this beach. The liveliness of it, especially at night when bonfires speckle across the sand, really has a special atmosphere. Make time for it.

Seaside Beach was the perfect getaway! We had a wonderful time relaxing in the soft sand, watching the kids play, and enjoying peaceful walks along the shore with the waves gently rolling in. A beautiful and relaxing family spot!

History Museums
Immerse yourself in the rich history of Seaside at the Seaside Museum & Historical Society. This non-profit facility, owned and operated by the State of Oregon, offers a captivating journey through the ancient and recent history of the region. With several galleries and interactive exhibits, visitors can explore how Seaside evolved from its origins as Oregon's first seaside resort town to its present-day charm.
What a great museum of local history. Very welcoming and informative.
Justin G — Google review
Wow! Larger than it looks, quite extensive in its descriptions and displays! Major events, earliest visitors, city life, transportation. Seaside has a long history of vacationers, with many unique issues along the way. I learned a lot. Spent about 90 minutes, could've been more. Donation for entry fee.
Chris U — Google review
A nice place to stop and learn about the history of Seaside with a restored beach cottage next door. The exhibits take you through the events and places that made Seaside a great beach destination. The Lewis & Clark Expedition Exhibit tells you about the effort to identify the site of the salt works in Seaside. The other exhibits include the Seaside Signal Newspaper Linotype machine, the 1912 fire that burned through the town, the development of the Prom, old hotels, and much more. The Butterfield Cottage tour shows you the rooms as they were used in a boarding house with a number of vintage exhibits and items. Located on Necanium Drive across from the river and near Broadway. Admission is free and donations are suggested. One of the places to stop and learn about the development of Seaside as a beach destination and to take a tour of an old beach cottage.

We love it, the lady working was wonderful and shared alot of good info! Answered all our questions cheerfully. Really enjoyed the museum. We left a nice donation for it to continue.

Italian restaurant
Bistro
Nonni's Italian Bistro is a cozy, family-run restaurant that offers a warm ambiance and serves up fresh pasta and other classic Italian dishes.
Great Italian restaurant in Seaside. It is worth the wait. The staff is very friendly and there’s quite a few options on the menu. They serve you sourdough bread with oil and vinegar to get you started. They have a very big selection of wine and their food had great flavor. Worth the stop highly recommend making a reservation .
Victoria L — Google review
Waited for 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Ordered the steamed clams. The flavor was good but they were way over cooked. Told the server and she couldn’t care less and did not take it off the bill. Main entrees were good. Overall just an OK experience. It wasn’t awful but don’t expect some fantastic Italian meal or experience here!!!
Jennifer P — Google review
My husband and I love Nonni’s and visit every time we’re in Seaside. The staff is always pleasant and attentive, and they serve you warm bread shortly after you’re seated. The cocktails are delicious, and I’m always impressed whenever I order the Chef’s Special Risotto. We’re early diners, so we’ve never had to wait for a table. Make sure to save room for dessert as the tiramisu is fantastic.
Babs M — Google review
Amazing food! Great service! Warm, fun atmosphere! The Lasagna and Fettuccine were great! We liked the House Salad as well. The Raspberry Panna Cotta was amazing, although a bit too firm! The service was a little slow, but very friendly. We will be back!
Mark J — Google review
Pro: 1) Nice decor. Really like the aprons hanging on the walls for decor. The vibe was really nice, but busy. 2) I was greeted immediately upon entry. I wanted to order to-go and knew what I wanted, and I saw that it was busy. And it looked like it was over an hour wait for dine-in. Then I was directed to sit and wait either by the fireplace where the leather couches or in the back for the "to-go" person to take my order. I found this really weird...but whatever. Con: 1) Waiting for the "to-go" person between 10-15 minutes. The same "to-go" person passed me at least three times before they came to take my order. I expected that since it was a full house and really busy, but she made a comment that she didn't know that I wanted to-go or was waiting for her. Did the hostess not flag her? I saw them crossed paths at least twice... But it is a weird system to ask me to sit and wait by the couches. 2) Food was somewhat disappointing. I was expecting nicely seasoned pasta dishes. I ordered linguine Alfredo with shrimp, but it was a little bland. Needed some salt and pepper. 3) Also ordered the garlic cheese bread; that was good. Overall: It was during the Labor Day weekend. So, I expected it to busy. It's a decent Italian restaurant in town. Would try it again, but maybe try a different dish.
Bernadette S — Google review
My husband and I are locals and come here about once a year for a nice date night. The food is excellent and service is always great. We ordered the cannoli and seafood alfredo dishes as well as a red wine (the special). Even though the restaurant was busy and it was a Subday evening, we had only a short wait. The staff are super quick at re-stting a table for a new party but we also never feel hurried to leave.
G R — Google review
Food… outstanding Gluten free was amazing. Service… outstanding. Our waitress was there when needed, made sure we were happy yet not a pest either. Atmosphere was causal yet felt authentic. Would without a doubt come here again. Note on your spend per person… we had pre-dinner drinks, and a bottle of wine with dinner, and desert.
R A — Google review
Italian food is as amazing! Service was a little busy but differently on top of it. I had the seafood pasta and the whisky sour. Both were great! We walked in but it got busy fast and people were not in the mood to wait. Would come back without question.

Ice cream shop
Espresso bar
Sea Star Gelato is a must-visit spot in Seaside for its handmade and incredibly creamy gelato. The flavors range from blackberry milk chocolate to cotton candy and local marionberry with lemon. You can also try unique options like Blue Moon, which tastes like cereal milk, or seasonal favorites such as peach crisp. The shop offers an ever-evolving selection of specialty gelato flavors and dairy-free sorbets, all made from scratch.
This is a must stop if you want a sweet treat in Seaside. They got quite a few options with fast service. My mom got the Espresso Coffee flavor and I got the New York Cheesecake and let me tell you they were both so delicious! Definitely recommend!

This place has amazing flavors. It’s worth the wait. I highly recommend the chocolate cherry and the raspberry flavors. So good! But really you can’t go wrong with any of the delicious flavors they have

Went in for coffee ended up grabbing a few scoops of ice cream. Husband loves rum raisin so we got this flavor it was so creamy had the perfect taste of rum 😋 I got the pineapple which was yummy .. and avocado. It's a creamy not super strong flavor for the ones who prefer less sweetness. Wish I would have tried the pomegranate and grapefruit those looked delicious
Vikki ( — Google review
My boyfriend and I decided to get some ice cream while waiting out the rain. The staff were super friendly and helpful. I’m not used to having the option of a cone (I’m celiac). But they had a gluten free cone! And each flavor has its own scooper so cross contamination is minimal. Yummy ice cream and so many different options to choose from. Overall great experience here.

The best gelato in the US, if not the world! I’ve tried gelato all over Europe and anywhere I find it stateside. And when I say “try”, if there’s gelato around, I’m eating it at least a few times a day. Of the hundreds of scoops I’ve had, none were as good as any scoop I’ve had from Sea Star. Their American flair on classic flavors and their own unique creations always hit! The owners are the nicest people that are passionate about what they do, and turn that passion into the best gelato possible. I try to make it to Seaside at least once a year, and when I do, I’ll stop into Sea Star at least 2-3 times. This place is that good!
Sean M — Google review
All of the reviews are spot on—this little gelato shop is a gem! The staff is so kind and welcoming, the prices are great, and the gelato flavors are absolutely fantastic. I also love that they’re open fairly late. We had such a good experience and will definitely be making this a regular stop whenever we’re in Seaside. Highly recommend!
Kristin H — Google review
We just went to this amazing little place and we will be going back! We tasted several flavors and ordered: P.O.G. and Ricotta in waffle cup and Blackberry Milk Chocolate and French Kiss Chocolate (I think that’s the correct name) in a cup. It’s a really cute sea themed gelato shop and we got to enjoy their Halloween decorations, which were super fun! The gelato offerings are numerous and super creative, from coffee drinks with gelato to different specialties like the gelacos (taco shell shaped waffle cones filled with two flavors of gelato and all kinds of toppings! The P.O.G. was light, fruity and very much like the juice of its namesake (Passionfruit Orange and Guava). The ricotta is like eating cheesecake without the crust, the combination was delicious! The Blackberry Milk Chocolate was also very tasty, as was the French Kiss Chocolate which had ribbons of chocolate sauce, dark chocolate chips and vanilla gelato. And yes, there are dairy free options! All with great service, the person who helped us was well versed in the ingredients of each flavor. Gelato to die for!

Serve is quick, and the ice cream is really tasty! (If you like licorice ice cream, theirs was definitely one of the best I’ve had! And it wasn’t dyed black. Hahaha) We got a triple scoop bowl with a cone on the side- Marion berry, s’mores, and licorice. So yummy!
Maxine L — Google review
Zingers was fantastic. Best cookies and crème ice cream I’ve ever had. The cone was INCREDIBLE. The service was fast and the prices I felt were reasonable for handmade cones and ice cream . 5.50 for one scoop.
Shani S — Google review
Amazing ice cream selection and delicious ice cream--reasonable price for the quality. Lost a star just for customer service. She certainly did not put love into my ice cream with her scoop or add to my experience. Staff should be proud to work at an ice cream shop that is such high quality. I got the licorice and root beer ice creams--amazing combo. You can not get a single scoop split into two flavors. It is worth trying two. The clerk gave me a hard time about trying more than one or two flavors. I would pay first if necessary --i just want to be sure that I am selecting one I want a whole bowl of. Anyways, way better than the other shops that serve dryers and have a huge line. There was a bit of a wait--I felt like I was at salt & straw but there were multiple clerks so the line went quickly.

For 2 summers we’ve been to seaside for the soccer in the sand tournament and my son gets a cone after every game! No joke, it’s amazing! The chocolate they use for their chocolate ice cream, I don’t know where they get it, but it hits different. If you’re in town, you must visit!

Bagel shop
Bagels by the Sea is a casual daytime outpost and drive-thru that serves housemade bagels, espresso drinks, and gourmet sandwiches. Located on the north coast, this Seaside coffee shop is known for its delicious homemade bagels in various flavors like sweet apple spice and savory bacon and cheddar cheese. The warm and inviting interior offers a spacious setting with an additional area for travelers to set up a laptop workspace.
Alright, imagine eating your already delicious breakfast sandwich and then this beauty arrives: a sourdough bread bowl brimming with creamy clam chowder. The bread has that perfect crust that gives way to a soft, chewy interior – ideal for soaking up every last drop of that chowder. And the chowder? Oh man, it's rich, packed with tender clams, and has that comforting, savory flavor. The presentation is top-notch too. And those little crackers scattered around? They're perfect for adding a bit of crunch and texture to each bite. Seriously, if you're looking for the ultimate comfort food experience, this clam chowder bread bowl is it. It's hearty, flavorful, and feels like a warm hug on a cold day. Definitely a must-try!

I visited this place in the morning, there were a lot of people. I got myself an iced coffee; it was strong and tasteless. I also bought bagels; they were dry, $15, definitely not worth it. There was almost no bacon in it. I added tomatoes and cabbage for $3; it was definitely not worth the money.

My husband and I noticed this spot during a night walk in Seaside. It was closed at the time, but since we were leaving the next morning, we decided to stop by before heading out. Unfortunately, the experience was really disappointing. They didn’t offer espresso drinks, only cold brews, so we ordered two bagel sandwiches (one ham and one sausage). When we got our food, both were sausage, not what we ordered. The coffee was terrible, and the pumpkin spice cold brew had almost no flavor. The sandwiches were so bland that I ended up using Taco Bell hot sauce from my car just to give them some taste. No one offered cream cheese or any add-ons, which might have helped. In the end, we paid $33 with tip, but ended up tossing everything in the trash at the 76 down the street.

Seaside Coffee Roasters is a welcoming coffee shop with a relaxed vibe, offering typical American diner and cafe specials. Located on Holladay Drive, the spot has a laid-back living-room atmosphere and brews their own Seaside Coffee Roasting beans at another site nearby in Seaside. Great cozy shop that locals actually hang out. Great selection, including fresh juice. The pound cake looked amazing with fresh whipped cream and raspberries on top. I tried a London Fog and it was perfect for my walk and beach sit on a cool morning. The clerk did not offer great service or seem to care that I was there or offer any sort of connection that I would hope for at a small business establishment. I don't think she even looked at me, it wouldn't keep me from going back though.

I'm very confused on how they got such high reviews. The coffee was some of the worst we have ever had. The people were very nice and it was a cozy shop. The decor could use some updating but was had a homey cozy vibe so would be a comfy hang out spot, but the coffee was awful. We got a latte and cappuccino and it tasted as if the beans were burnt. They were bad enough that we ended up throwing both out. If you are a coffee person this isn't the spot for you.

Very cool and relaxing vibe here. Has a “Oceanside “coffee shop feel to it. Lots of unique things to see along the walls and hung up on the shelves. The coffee is fantastic! I really enjoy places that don’t over saturate the coffee with sugar or too much milk. They take great care and making a good cup of coffee. And lastly, the people were very friendly!
