Bodies of Water
Emerald Lake, located in Yoho National Park, is a stunning natural wonder with its clear green waters reflecting the surrounding mountains. The lake offers a serene atmosphere and features a hiking trail as well as a boathouse for canoe rentals. Surrounded by western hemlocks, red cedars, white pines, and yews, this secluded spot is nestled amidst the President Range mountains including Mount Burgess and Wapta Mountain.
The name speaks for itself, super emerald green color lake, very small view area but cute cafe around,Very pretty lake, beautiful views, you can soak in the nature, breathe in and take nice pictures. The parking lot has is very limited spots ,there’s washrooms and short walk so definitely must try!

⭐ Beautiful tranquil Emerald lake, which takes its name from the lovely green color reflected from the sediments in the lake. There’s a flat walking trail that we could take to walk round the lake, but it is quite a big lake. There are also bear signs/ sightings around the area so need to be careful if walking the trail. Can also rent a canoe 🛶 to go around the lake but it is rather expensive. Pix were taken in early June in the late afternoon.

Visited in early October and the lake was a mesmerizing emerald green. Renting a canoe is a must! the red boats against the green water create a beautiful, striking contrast. Absolutely spectacular scenery. Highly recommend

One of the prettiest places in all of Banff! Get there early so you can enjoy the peace and quiet before the buses show up (also for parking). I highly suggest canoeing if you can. It’s absolutely stunning from the water! There’s a path to walk and a boardwalk/road for those who can’t with beautiful views too!

Emerald Lake is one of those rare places that instantly makes you fall in love with nature all over again. Nestled among majestic mountains and evergreen forests, the lake lives up to its name — its waters shimmer with the most enchanting shade of emerald green, so clear and calm that you can see the reflections of the peaks above like a perfect mirror. The moment I arrived, I was captivated by the peaceful energy that surrounded the place. It feels untouched, pure, and timeless. The walking trail around the lake is easy and scenic, making it perfect for a quiet stroll or photo adventure. Every step reveals a new angle of beauty — crystal waters, wildflowers, and the soothing sound of nature in its purest form. I especially loved the view from the wooden bridge; it’s picture-perfect and gives you a full view of the lake framed by the mountains. It’s no surprise this spot is one of the most photographed places in the region. Canoeing across Emerald Lake was the highlight of my visit. Gliding gently over the calm, jewel-toned water felt magical — like floating in a dream. The silence, broken only by the soft splash of the paddles, was deeply relaxing. There’s also a cozy lodge nearby with a café that serves warm drinks and local food — the perfect way to end a day of exploring. The staff were friendly, and everything felt peaceful and well-kept. Emerald Lake is not just beautiful; it’s healing. It’s the kind of place that makes you pause, breathe deeply, and feel grateful just to be alive. I left with my heart full and my mind calm. A truly five-star natural wonder — serene, stunning, and unforgettable.

A scene so magical it feels like stepping back into Narnia — where emerald lakes meet snow-covered peaks. I have Visited on 22 Nov 2025 with my 18 Month old Baby.
Kiyan S — Google review
Beautiful place with an incredible view. We visited the lake middle of September, we arrived at 8:30am and we found parking, is free. The lake is next to the parking, you don't need to walk much. The canoe rental here is cheaper compare to Moraine or Louise lake, 100 CAD per hour, and the rental company opens until 10am, but is recommended to arrive at least 30 minutes before. You can walk all around the lake, the view during the haking and from the canoe is magic, you can feel the connection with the place in a way that is hard to explain. You must visit this lake if you are visiting the zone.

A mesmerizing lake with a true wow factor! It’s one of those rare places so stunning it feels like it could change your brain chemistry. The views are absolutely breathtaking perfect for photoshoots, picnics, hikes and enjoying nature

Natural Bridge, located 3km west of the town of Field in Yoho National Park, is a remarkable rock formation that spans the Kicking Horse River. The powerful erosive forces have sculpted a natural bridge where the river flows under. It's easily accessible with ample parking and offers stunning views of the Canadian Rockies and the flowing river. However, it's important to be cautious as the base is gradually weakening and may collapse in years to come.
This natural wonder is absolutely stunning — the stone bridges are true masterpieces of nature. Located in Yoho National Park, it’s a place you definitely shouldn’t miss. The rock formations and powerful water flow are mesmerizing to watch. It’s one of those places that makes you stop and admire nature’s beauty. Easy to access and perfect for photography or just enjoying the view. We completely fell in love with it — truly unforgettable. If you’re in the area, make sure to stop by. You’ll love it!

The Natural Bridge in British Columbia is a stunning rock formation carved by the powerful Kicking Horse River. It's fascinating to see how nature has shaped the limestone into a bridge over thousands of years. The rushing water and surrounding forest create a peaceful yet dramatic scene. This quick stop near Field is definitely worth a visit for its unique natural beauty.

Visit: July 2,2025 Very nice place where rocks formed a natural bridge. Good stop area with very good opportunities for nice photos and to enjoy the water views and sounds.

⭐ Beautiful natural bridge formed by the erosion of the Kicking Horse River wearing away softer layers of limestone. So therapeutic to just watch the river flow through. Parking is available.
Bugwagen — Google review
One of my highlights on the two day tour we took. Each day is different but so beautiful. This kicking horse river is another magical stop and I could stay here and listen to the water for hours!

Natural Bridge is a stunning natural formation that’s definitely worth the visit! The view of the rushing river flowing under the rock arch is mesmerizing. The area is well-maintained with easy walking paths and great spots for photos. Perfect for a quick nature escape and a peaceful moment surrounded by beauty. Highly recommend!

Easy walk to the falls from the parking lot. The paved paths grade in some places may be a challenge for some people but not difficult for most people. There are no fees here.
James M — Google review
Great spot to stop for a place to get out of the car, stretch and see some beauty! Wow! Came with husband and two 5 year olds and we all loved this spot! It was rainy out, and still worth seeing. The water was flowing so fast, it was neat to see! I was looking at other reviews and saw other times of the year it looks so different. So this would be a neat spot to visit through the different seasons. Loved that it was a quick detour and how the bridge was right next to the parking lot. There are a few places to walk around and get different angles.

Waterfalls
Takakkaw Falls is a majestic waterfall located in Yoho National Park, offering dramatic vistas and standing at an impressive height of 373m, with a main drop of 254m. Access to the falls is free with a Discovery Parks Pass for entry into Yoho National Park. The access road is closed during winter from mid-October to mid-June.
Takakkaw Falls is truly one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in Canada! Located in Yoho National Park, the falls are easily accessible by a short drive from the highway, followed by a short walk. The sound of the rushing water grows louder as you approach, and the first glimpse of the towering cascade, plunging 373 meters, will leave you in awe. The mist from the falls creates a refreshing, cool breeze, especially on warm summer days, and rainbows often appear when the sunlight hits just right, adding to the magical experience. The area is surrounded by lush greenery and dramatic mountain peaks, making it a paradise for photographers and nature lovers alike. It’s a perfect stop for families, hikers, or anyone looking to enjoy the raw beauty of the Canadian Rockies. Just be sure to wear good shoes, bring a light jacket (it can be chilly near the base), and keep your camera ready—you’ll want to capture every moment. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – A must-visit in Yoho National Park for an unforgettable view of nature’s power and beauty.

I don't have words to explain the beauty of this place. Its must visit place stunning view around the falls, breathtaking scenery and beautiful running water . when you park the car you can't imagine whts next . Just walk towards the bridge and enjoy the water fall at the end. Note: Baby stroller can easily Go there. Note: Washrooms are not that standard, no water access so just sanitizer. Try to avoid to use.

It was an amazing sight, very simple and accessible on the way to this waterfall. You can see it from afar, and it looks majestic, huge, and tall. When you arrive, you have very easy access to the waterfall itself, and you can truly enjoy the view. There are quite a lot of people, and the parking lot gets full, but you can park a little further away and take a short walk. A wonderful place for kids, adults, and seniors. Absolutely stunning!

A must-see destination for all nature lovers! This is the second tallest waterfall in Canada and it’s absolutely breathtaking. The area is pet-friendly! Be sure to dress for the weather, the water is extremely cold, and you’ll definitely catch some mist but the views make it completely worth it.
Cristina — Google review
Pretty cool falls that you can walk right up to. Short walk along the river and across a tiny bridge then another short walk to the base. Turn around when you arrive as the views of the surrounding mountains are almost as good as the falls themselves. Come early as parking lot fills up quick! Don't follow the signs for the toilets as they don't make sense (they are to the right of the parking lot, by the river). Well worth a visit.

Had a wonderful experience exploring takkakaw falls..though to get there was bit of a ride ( some part of the road is narrow) we went there last august after a hot drive and canoeing,it was an amazing view and the water from the falls splashing in our face was refreshing and help us cooled off. Will explore the whol3 area nexr time
Rima R — Google review
The falls were quite loud and powerful rushing over the cliff. As you're driving down you can see it from the road, bouncing off the rocks and creating a beautiful mist. Parking was a challenge and we thankfully found a spot on the side of the road. There were a lot of people but we were able to maneuver around most of them. There are pit toilets at the start and the walk to the falls is an easy, flat .50 mile. Be prepared for crowds.
Melissa P — Google review
This is a MUST DO on your Banff trip. The walk to the falls is paved so very easy to make. If you want to approach the falls, do so in boots because the incline is great and the surface is very loose and rocky. Go early in the morning to beat the crowds.

Waterfall
Wapta Falls is a must-see attraction in Yoho National Park, Canada. This stunning waterfall, the largest on the Kicking Horse River, measures 18 meters high and 107 meters wide. It's accessible year-round but is particularly breathtaking in winter when it freezes over. The Wapta Falls Trail is a flat 4.8-kilometer hike from the main parking lot, taking about 1.5 hours to complete with an elevation gain of 125 meters.
There’s a fairly easy-moderate hike to the falls (really only difficult nearing the end). The view is definitely worth the hike, with beautiful falls. Near the end of April, the parking lot is closed so you have to walk to the beginning of the trail, before starting the actual hike. Definitely worth the view though!
Forest B — Google review
Extremely rough and potholed gravel entrance for 2 km to the parking lot. Wouldn't recommend doing it in a small sedan type car. The hike is fairly easy although after rain there are puddles everywhere we had to navigate. The falls is beautiful, make sure to bring mosquito repellent pretty thick throughout the entire hike
Mike M — Google review
Stunning waterfall, probably the most stunning one in the region, glad I didn’t skip it, went 6am in the morning and didn’t see anyone at all, hike is about 30-40mins, the trail get very muddy after rain.
Mankin L — Google review
Amazing falls. If you hike all the way down you will get to experience heavy mist, may need of raincoat if not want to get wet. Carry your bug spray, lot of mosquito throughout the trail.

Went to hike during Fall season, the parking is closed to we parked along the highway. Easy hike, 2 hours.

What a fantastic end to a short hike. Simply stunning! Would definitely recommend. Take care driving along the road to the parking area though especially in an RV as rather bumpy! Well worth it though. This was just as I hoped my trip to Canada would be like.
Jane P — Google review
Wapta Falls is an absolutely stunning natural attraction in Yoho National Park. The hike to the falls is about 4.5 km (round trip) and is relatively easy, making it perfect for families and casual hikers. The trail is mostly shaded, with beautiful views of the Kicking Horse River along the way.
HIREN — Google review
Important tip: Don’t just Google “Wapta Falls” — it might take you down a long, pothole-filled gravel road. Instead, search “Wapta Falls Main Trail” for the proper parking lot. Way smoother and much easier on your vehicle! Now for the hike — it’s a beautiful forest trail that leads to a stunning, powerful waterfall. You’ll hear it before you see it. You can stop at the lookout or take the extra trail down to the base for an up-close view (and maybe a good soaking). The trail can get muddy, so bring decent footwear. Definitely worth the effort!

Burgess Shale, located in Canada, is a renowned fossil deposit dating back approximately 505 million years to the Cambrian period. This site has yielded numerous well-preserved fossils from this ancient era, including many previously unknown animal species. The area is scientifically significant and offers visitors the opportunity to explore its beauty through guided tours that require advance booking. It's a 22-kilometer round trip hike with stunning scenery throughout.
5 star hike 22 kilometres round trip and ever part is beautiful you do need to book in advance to go to the fossil beds with a guild which is just as good highly recommend starting very yearly in the morning as it does take most of the day

(Translated by Google) A day that I have been waiting for for so long is finally here: Today I went on a day tour with an excursion group to the world-famous Burgess Shale! 🦴 This is a fossil deposit that is approximately 505 million years old and contains numerous well-preserved fossils from the Cambrian period. It is characterized not only by the enormous number of fossils that can be found here (> 230,000 have already been found), but also by their diversity (> 200 species) and the fact that many of them also have exceptionally good soft tissue were preserved. 🪨 Of course, visiting this unique UNESCO World Heritage Site also had its price: it took us more than 10 hours for the 21 km long tour, on which we had to climb 900 meters in altitude! We were not only rewarded with the sight of numerous exciting fossils (I found trilobites, an Ottoia worm and various sponges), but also discovered numerous interesting animals along the way, including marmots and pikas. The entire tour was accompanied by a professional guide from the Burgess Shale Geoscience Foundation who gave us a lot of information about the Burgess Shale along the way. He was well prepared, very friendly & outgoing! 😊 CONCLUSION: Definitely worth a visit! One of the most extraordinary and beautiful hikes I've ever been able to do! Attention: Of course you are not allowed to take the fossils with you!
