Waterfalls
Woolshed Falls, located around six kilometers outside of Beechworth, off McFeeters Road, is a picturesque waterfall area that becomes especially beautiful after heavy rainfall. The cascades plunge into a rugged gorge and offer a viewing deck and picnic area for visitors to enjoy the stunning scenery. The area also features various attractions such as the Spring Creek Cascades, Ingrams Rock, Fiddes Granite Quarry, and the Reids Creek Goldfields.
Incredibly beautiful. Nature at its best . High rainfall added to the volume of water cascading .

Wonderful trip here. So peaceful and not to far away. My child loved it. Great experience

Great place to dip your toe into the water. Easy walk from the carpark.

With the visit when exploring the area. Beautiful views of the falls from the lookout point! Nice picnic area with WCs available. Due to injury we couldn’t explore as much as we would have liked, but there were lots of people walking around the rocks and falls below.
Emi H — Google review
Beautiful place, but can get busy. It's worth spending time walking the creek and appreciating the water polished granite.
Steve J — Google review
Easy walk to the fall from the parking. The view is spectacular and the breeze makes the heat go away. The rocks underneath the water are slippery but with proper shoes it is not too dangerous. A good destination for a day trip, with friends and family or solo trip.

Love these falls. Good chance to do some rock hoping. Had a blast here
Shayne B — Google review
A very short walk to view the falls which had l enough water gushing over them to make them look nice when we were there.

Historic Sites
Old Beechworth Gaol, located on Ford Street, is part of the impressive Justice Precinct listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. The site was originally a government camp and later became a police reserve in 1856. Constructed of local honey-colored granite, the complex includes several historic buildings such as the former Telegraph Office, Court House, Police Station, Chinese Protectors Office, and Gold Wardens Office.
The Gaol tour in Beechworth is definitely worth a visit! Our tour guide was fantastic—friendly, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor that made the experience even more enjoyable. It was fascinating to hear the stories of those imprisoned there, especially the infamous Ned Kelly and his gang. The history and stories brought the place to life in such an engaging way. If you’re visiting Beechworth, this tour should be at the top of your list! Highly recommended!

Had an awesome time at the Old Beechworth Gaol tour! Graham was a great guide and really knew his stuff/made it super interesting. Loved the Kelly family stories, but also learned heaps about the gaol’s history. Wish there was an opportunity to keep looking after the tour.

We took the kids to the Beechworth Gaol during the school holidays. The tour was well priced and it was easy to book online. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and was able to answer all of the questions from the group. We highly recommend the tour for all ages. It's a great part of the local history.

fantastic old goal...guided tours run almost every hour and is the only way to checkout the inside of the prison something to remember ...first tour at 10am .. HM Prison Beechworth was built on the site of Beechworth's first stockade. It was designed by Victoria's Public Works Department and constructed using local granite that was quarried with prison labour... Beechworth was one of nine panopticon prisons built in Victoria. Construction began in 1857 and the prison opened in 1860, though was incomplete and only had single cells for 36 prisoners. The capacity doubled when the building was completed in 1864. Beechworth initially housed male and female prisoners. Female prisoners were assigned washing and needlework for government departments. Between 1865 and 1881, eight executions were carried out at the prison.Ned Kelly served six months at the prison in 1870-71 for assault. He was again held there during his committal trial for murder in 1880. Kelly's mother, Ellen and two associates of the Kelly family also served sentences at the prison the late 1870s for the attempted murder of Constable Alexander Fitzpatrick. Twenty suspected sympathisers of Kelly were held in 1879 in an attempt to limit support to the Kelly gang. The prison's iron gates were installed due to fears there may be attempts to break the sympathisers out of the prison.

What a great tour! Very informative and fascinating to know the history. Our guide Peter was fantastic. I could have listened to him talk for hours. If only those walls could talk, we’d know so much more. Definitely a place worth visiting when coming to Beechworth!
Elyce L — Google review
Love the hands-on experience of visiting the jail 💗 was a bit cold so we got some food at the cafe and got a very informative book about the prison’s history from the cafe too 📚Love it, will definitely come back next year!!!

The tour guide was awesome, knew his stuff and history and loved telling the story. Gail only closed in the early 2000s so some infamous people looked up here. Kelly History deep with his Mum locked up for a few years.
Andrew N — Google review
Beechworth Gaol had not only the Kelly & gang incarcerated here but also Kelly's mentor & tutor - the "gentlemen" Bushranger Harry Power. Somehow Harry Power's tales are subsumed by Ned Kelly's but it is just as interesting. Other inmates here included a whole bunch of modern day tax evaders & Melbourne's infamous underbelly crims. The newer additions include the conjugal visits area in the gaolers yard as you make your way inside on the right & a swimming pool area - gated off on the left. I expected the Gaol to be bigger but it is small with about 110 to 123 inmates capacity. There is the heritage Kelly era wing, the newer ones plus the Hangman's room & the Noose. A group of us - pre-purchased online tix for the 10 am tour Sun 23 Feb recently. A huge crowd of almost 40. The next tour only had a handful - so perhaps this is a better timeslot. Free parking in front of entry gates & also side street. There is a Cafe Truck in the entry yard too & a nice reception re-purposed area & toilets inside before tour starts. Tour ran for 45 mins & Guide thankfully used audio speaker. Typical Oz humour delivered with full on ocker tones- which you wonder if overseas visitors understood. Exercise yard - with the metal mirror (you will find out why) is also the site of 1800s hard labour (breaking granite & carting it), the chain gang tales all made for the grim reality not only the gold rush lawless period but also the 20th century penitentiary system. You get more of the blood & gore penitentiary stories under the pentagonal wooden roofed & similar shaped guard room inside. The replica Kelly gang armour suite is lined up here (by this time it is an oft repeated sight for us having started the Kelly trail at Glenrowan.). For dedicated Ned Kelly & Harry Power stories - do the Ned Kelly Trail tour run by the Visitor's Centre. Beats me how the confined cells & dire deeds of yore can be re-purposed into arts, entertainment & hospitality...Takes it beyond the "dark" tourism into the 21st century enlightenment I suppose. One way of maintaining historical sites like this for future generations but the essence of harsh reality of colonial past would be lost surely. Whatever works to make it a viable site. Pentridge Prison is already a popular re-purposed hub but ..er..rrr..rr - it ain't for me.

The Beechworth Honey Shop, a historic establishment dating back to 1888, is a must-visit destination in the heart of Beechworth. This iconic shop offers an educational experience for families, showcasing the history of beekeeping and allowing visitors to sample various local honey varieties. Additionally, guests can take a free tour to learn about the fascinating story behind Beechworth Honey.
The Beechworth Honey Shop is definitely worth a visit! The store offers a wonderful variety of products, from skincare items to an impressive selection of honey in different flavours. It’s a great spot to explore, and you can really tell that it’s a must-visit when you’re in Beechworth. The staff are friendly and always willing to help, making the experience even better. Whether you’re looking for something unique to take home or just want to learn more about honey, this shop is a lovely stop on your trip.

This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. If you’re going to Beechworth, you can’t miss it! It’s such a lovely spot where you’ll discover a wide variety of honey flavours, honey drinks, honey creams, honey candies, and candles made from 100% beeswax. There’s also a tiny room that feels like a mini museum and a special space where you can write a letter to the bees — it’s especially made for kids, but honestly, it’s irresistible for everyone. You’ll find so many charming little things! Buy Australian honey — support Australian beekeepers! 🐝

You can get Beechworth Honey from most shops, but it is best to go to the "dinkum original" shop here in Beechworth. The shop is large, and full of honey and other produce. It is well worth popping in. Recommended! Thank you.

A must stop in Beachworth! My friends and I spent ages tasting all the different types of honey and never felt rushed. Very passionate, knowledgeable and helpful staff. Wide range of products to get including honey, candles, sparkling honey drinks, lollies, balms and more.

Located in Beechworth, Australia, Bridge Road Brewers was established in 2005 by Ben and Maria Kraus. The brewery's dedication to handcrafted beers and the local community led to its rapid growth. Visitors can enjoy a variety of housemade craft beers, bar snacks, and pizza in an old-timey hotel with a vaulted ceiling. Additionally, the brewery offers a unique coffee experience for cyclists on the Murry to Mountains Rail Trail.
Bridge Road Brewers is truly a gem for anyone who loves craft beer and a welcoming atmosphere. The moment you walk in, you can feel the character of the place, rustic, warm, and full of energy. The staff are incredibly friendly and always happy to recommend something based on your taste, whether you’re a fan of light, refreshing beers or prefer something darker and more complex. The variety of beers is impressive. Every brew feels carefully crafted, and it’s clear that a lot of passion goes into what they do here. I especially enjoyed trying the tasting paddles, which is such a great way to explore different flavors in one visit. On top of that, the food is outstanding. The menu pairs perfectly with the drinks delicious wood-fired pizzas, hearty snacks, and plenty of options to share if you’re with friends or family. The outdoor seating area is another highlight. It’s spacious, relaxed, and perfect for enjoying a sunny afternoon with a cold beer in hand. It also feels very family-friendly, with lots of groups around, and you don’t feel rushed at all, you can sit back, chat, and enjoy the vibe for hours. What really makes Bridge Road Brewers special is the combination of amazing drinks, great food, and genuine hospitality. It’s more than just a bar; it’s an experience. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this is one of those places you’ll want to come back to again and again. Highly recommended!

Came by with my family last week for lunch and the atmosphere was really great. Staff were friendly and helped set us up with the high chair. Beer selection was wide but we were actually very pleasantly surprise with the apple juice + soda water. Refreshing over lunch! Pizza was made well and we loved the thin crust. But burger was a little disappointing - the buns were hard, dense, and cold, and didn’t hold the content of the burger well. It was too big to actually eat in a single bite. Certainly recommend the pizzas and apple juice!

One of the best breweries we have visited this year in our Victorian Beer Passports. The beers are amazing and the pizzas are just as great. The tasting paddles are huge but are the best way to experience the wide range of beers they make. I don't like sours or dark beers usually and yet left with a four pack of their sours and the dark ale. Staff were also lovely. I will be back next time I pass through town.

Excellent laid back pub with an excellent selection of beer, great inviting country vibes, friendly service and delicious pizza! Even though we visited as a couple, I’m still going to give props to the kids menu selection and the play area. The locally brewed ginger beer was delicious, as were the brisket and duck pizzas. Will definitely be back

Eldorado Road Cellar Door Cantina is a family-run vineyard located just a few kilometers from Beechworth. However, you don't have to travel far to enjoy their hand-picked wines as they have an intimate cellar door right in the heart of town. Whether you visit in summer and relax under the shade of the willow tree in the private courtyard or cozy up next to the fire during winter, this cellar door offers a welcoming atmosphere.
Amazing wine, great service and charcuterie plates that are tasty as hell! You can’t go wrong here, everything is DELICIOUS! Gluten free options too, which is always a bonus!

Had a great tasting experience and purchased a glass of wine and relaxed in the outdoor courtyard. Highly recommend the Onyx, one to rival any Durif which was taken home Loved the quality of the tasting menu's, the effort that went into providing info on all the wines and being able to mark (draw) what we thought of the wines as we progressed through the tasting. Truly a gem that is solely worth visiting Beechworth for

We were looking for a place to have a quick drink before our meal at Provenance when we stumbled across this cute little wine bar. We sat at the bar and had a quick tasting. The lady that ran us through the tasting was lovely and the wines were fantastic. We ended up getting a small single cheese plate that was incredibly generous and delicious. Any place that has the Will Stud triple cream on the menu is a winner. 😁 We ended up leaving with a bottle of the Quasimodo which is a fantastic drop.

Had such an enjoyable experience here. Linda served me and she was kind and knowledgeable about the wines without being pretentious. Super friendly conversation which made the tasting even more enjoyable. Very family friendly, happily hosting my two children and husband. The Shiraz was my favourite, paired with the chocolate bark, was a wonderful way to finish our trip to Beechworth. Highly recommend

Restaurant
Provenance is a revered establishment with elegant arched windows and cozy wooden furnishings. It has received two hats in The Age Good Food Guide, making it a sought-after destination. The degustation menu is highly recommended, offering an unforgettable dining experience complemented by carefully selected wines from the North East region and optional sake pairings. Owner-chef Michael Ryan's cuisine is described as Japanese-influenced, blending contemporary design and textures with the finest local and seasonal ingredients.
We were fortunate to eat at Provenance on a quiet Monday night. We enjoyed the meal immensely. So many varied tiny dishes with a fabulous array of tasting. Highlights for me were the whipped roe with pickled cucumber, the fish skewer with pickled daikon, and the rice pudding with stewed apple (I’m a sucker for rice pudding). She mentions the bbq squid and the sashimi with beetroot and pomegranate. I enjoyed a local Vermentino and a Tempranillo. A memorable experience - reflecting a lot of care, skill and imagination. ❤️

Phenomenal meal. I am a communications professional who is lost for words to describe how amazing the meal was. In over 14 dishes served there was not one that wasn't perfect. There was a number of dishes I wouldn't have ordered for myself as I wouldn't have thought I would like it, only to have them and realise I was completely wrong as they were spectacular. This restaurant deserves every perfect review they receive.

Stayed overnight and ate in the lounge. Accommodation was excellent. Large well appointed room with a very comfortable bed. Great bathroom, and nice spot to sit outside. The predate yourself provided breakfast was simple but delicious. Had dinner the night before in the lounge. The menu was Japanese inspired but using local ingredients. It concentrated on flavour without trying to be cute or fussy. Great tasting food with excellent choice of wine.

We had the absolute pleasure of dining here on our visit to Bright. The food was well portioned and inventive and well presented. Every dish was made with care and showcased not just produce of the region but the chef’s skill. Staff were helpful and conscientious without being obsequious. The desert was not much to look at but absolutely blew my mind! We will be back!
Evee C — Google review
Very average food for the $170/head set menu and loads of pickled vegetables (which meant my wife couldn’t eat half the dishes even though she mentioned dietary requirements, it often meant she missed a protein dish and just had daikon instead). They are certainly taking advantage of their reputation. Far better modern Japanese interpretations in Daylesford or Bright.

Tried the lounge menu as was not up for the full restaurant menu. Not disappointed as the food was delicious and the Saki excellent. Definitely will be back and the cocktail bar upstairs was excellent with a very laid back vibe and excellent record collection that I want.

Loved the way four little dishes were served in three ensuing bento boxes. Removed that oooh ah of 12 individual dishes. With all those flavors and ideas obs there were going to be things you liked better than other but that seemed to be the culinary journey. Delicious little puddings to finish, as well. It’s expensive and the owner/chef/waiter was a bit off hand but you are there for the food and with luck, good friends, like we were. We had a great time

Nestled in the picturesque town of Beechworth, The Ox and Hound Bistro offers a delightful dining experience with a focus on rustic French and Italian cuisine. Chef Sean Ford's dedication to traditional values is evident in his uncomplicated yet delicious classic bistro fare, featuring dishes like chestnut fettuccine with rabbit ragu and barramundi topped with caponata.

What a lovely evening, both waiters on the night were super helpful and answered all my concerns..I am coeliac and I was assured that the restaurant was aware of cross contamination etc. The menu was assuring, I chose the duck and it was beautiful. Print to the main, they brought out some home cooked gluten free bread. Yum..🤤. My husband who is deprived of gluten in the home, enjoyed the rabbit ragu. We shared a gf panna cotta. Beautiful town, lovely restaurant , and great service. 10/10.. and, I was able to purchase a loaf of bread the next day.. thank so much, lynelle

What an outstanding venue!! Unsure as to where we will have a coffee and some food, we dropped in at Project Forty Nine. Whatever you are looking for, they will have it here 😊 There is such an extensive range of items for sale in here. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We will visit again when I'm next in town 😊

Place is easy to find, lots of parking on mainstreet. They have limited seating with a few small tables inside and out. They offer takeaway drinks and lots of sandwiches/sweet treats. The menu is small but has quality items on it. Coffee was nice and so was the food. Staff are friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend a booking. Dogs are allowed outside, and the prices are quite reasonable. Would recommend.

Enjoyed the best panini here! The staff were very accommodating with food allergies and the atmosphere is so welcoming with a gorgoeus provedore vibe. Highly reccomend a visit if you're in town!

We had the Green Tuscan Soup with Spiced Seeds and a delicious slice of artisan bread with garlic oil. It was VEGAN, so happy with that! Absolutely delicious and this little hot spot is really cute, has a great selection of produce both local and international and has very friendly staff.
