History Museums
The Tower Museum, established in 1992, is the primary council-run museum in the city. It offers two permanent exhibitions: "The Story of Derry," which delves into the city's history with a collection of artifacts, and "La Trinidad Valencera," focusing on the Spanish Armada ship that sank off the coast of Donegal in 1588.
Fantastic spot in Derry and a great way to spend some time. We visited on a Monday afternoon where it was 2 for 1 on tickets so a mere £6 to get in. Brilliant value. There are three exhibits, the first focusing on Derry Girls, a recent comedy tv show which if you haven’t seen is well worth a watch. Great exhibit which contains a lot of props from the series you can see. Second exhibit is the history of Derry which goes right back Neolithic age and then takes you on a fantastic walk through time, right up to the modern day. Third and final exhibit is all around the Spanish Armada and specifically a ship that was sunk nearby and found relatively recently (late 60s/early 70s I think it said it was). There’s also a rooftop where you can get a view from all angles out over the rooftops in Derry although admittedly I didn’t enjoy it too much - it was a grey drizzly day so maybe would have been better with blue skies and good visibility but I couldn’t really see much today.

Highly recommend. Came for the Derry Girls exhibition and stayed for the history of Derry. Very interesting.

A nice museum that showcases the rich history of Derry. If you like the show, "Derry Girls," you'll appreciate the exposition at the beginning!

I had the great pleasure of visiting the Tower Museum in Londonderry a couple of weeks ago. I have to say that it was a fascinating experience in a really well laid out Museum. The thought process in the layout was exemplary and the way finding simple to follow. I was captivated by the exhibition of artifacts from a lost Armada ship. The descriptions of all of them were so well done that nothing was left to the imagination. All in all a captivating Museum and exceptional value for a modest entrance fee. The Lady on reception was welcoming and very friendly. She explained how to get the most from the museum and and all the artifacts. Many thanks for a wonderful experience.
John S — Google review
Very good museum with a little bit of everything. The Spanish Armada exhibition was a lot better than expected. They had a Derry Girls TV show exhibition when I visited which was great as a fan. There is also a piece about the Ferry and Irish history that was super educational. The views from the Roof Top are good as well. Price tickets are very affordable which was a big plus.

Amazing! Derry girls exhibition is fantastic. Love the props and photo opportunities as well. Did not expect rest of museum to be so good. Well worth a visit and very reasonably priced. Loved it!
Anqela W — Google review
Well worth a visit. A fascinating mix of contemporary pop culture ("Derry Girls") an extensive history of the north of Ireland (excellent!), the Spanish Armada (much more complicated than I'd understood it) and the discovery of a wrecked Armada ship. Topped off with great views from the tower top.

Great little museum close to the city walls. Really interesting display about the history of Derry, especially the period of plantation. Small but lovely special exhibition with props from the wonderful Derry Girls tv series. Staff could not be more helpful!

History Museums
The Museum of Free Derry, located in the Bogside neighborhood of Derry, is a historical museum that commemorates and recounts the story of the Free Derry era from 1969-1972. This pivotal period saw a section of the city declare itself autonomous from British authorities, culminating in the tragic events of Bloody Sunday in 1972. The museum features multi-media exhibits on the region's civil rights movement and early conflict era.
An amazing experience in the Free Derry Museum ! Here, you find the all story of The Troubles that took place in Derry and the building of tensions between the two communities beforehand. It is well-explained and very complete. If you are in Derry, you definitely have to come here !
Chloé — Google review
It's a good museum to learn about the history of Derry. There are some videos throughout that are interesting to watch. There was no wait to enter the museum and we didn't have to but tickets in advance. You can just show up and pay to enter.
Janet S — Google review
A powerful and moving experience. Visiting the Bloody Sunday monument is both emotional and enlightening. The surrounding murals beautifully and boldly tell the story of a tragic chapter in history—each one full of meaning and message. Walking through the area, you don’t just see history, you feel it. You leave with a deeper understanding, carrying a piece of that history with you. A must-visit for anyone coming to Derry
Stella C — Google review
Magnificent and extremely moving testament to the people of Derry. Very well curated, informative, logical and easy to follow. Plus some very poignant exhibits, the shoot to kill transcript, the white hanky, the bullet broken Sunday best clothes, straight from noon mass. Simply must see if you’re visiting any part of Ireland.

Excellent local museum in Derry. Great history on Derry through it's troubled past. Highly recommend a visit as a private tour guide who explores the whole island of Ireland.

Very insightful. Troublesbogsidewalkingtour is extremely recommend. Guided by eyewitness of the events around Bloody Sunday. Really strong community, authentic storytelling.

Very eye-opening & interesting history. Happy to hear another perspective on the story of Northern Ireland’s past conflict. Cool to see what the Bloody Sunday Trust is doing to spread awareness and fight for civil rights for all, everywhere

Excellent museum. Though small, my mom and I stayed hours reading and listening. Back in the states and currently drinking my morning coffee from the mug of their facade: the sound waves of "We Shall Overcome". An excellent reminder of our global shared struggles for liberation and justice. Thank you!

City Hall
Sights & Landmarks
The Guildhall is a stunning neo-Gothic town hall in Derry/Londonderry, serving as a hub for local history and culture. It boasts intricate stained-glass windows and offers guided tours to delve into its rich heritage. The venue also hosts various events such as concerts, plays, and poetry readings. Visitors can explore the St. Columba Heritage Centre to learn about the city's patron saint through interactive exhibits.
We celebrated our wedding at the Guildhall on Saturday and we couldn’t be happier with our experience. All communication was handled efficiently, kindly, and professionally, and we instantly felt we were in a ‘safe pair of hands’ for our special day. All of the staff we spoke to reassured us that they understood what we wanted and put us at ease. Throughout the whole process, the staff couldn’t do enough for us and our guests. The venue is absolutely stunning. We got married in the main hall, in front of the stained glass windows. The staff allowed Holly’s Dad to play us in and out on the organ. They also recommended White Horse for our catering who provided delicious food and a great service. We had a relaxed and joyful experience and would highly recommend the Guildhall as a venue for an unforgettable day. Special mentions for Lee, Troy, Paige, Brian, Ellie, Sylvia and the kind lady (we think, Carol) who took us out on the balcony and in the council chamber. Holly and Max

We were in today for a walk around and stopped in to see the bike show. Band playing and there was a great atmosphere. Stopped in the cafe for a quick takeaway coffee and sausage roll. Nice and clean area with plenty going on

The Guildhall is a beautiful building with free entry. You can take a poke around and also there is a bit of a museum / educational area to learn more about the history of Derry. The people working the day we were in were friendly and informative. We really enjoyed stopping in here.

Incredible what human hands can do! Generations to build these masterpieces and they will stand Fav stained glass is pic 6 but far too much beauty for one post! 🌈 LED light on the organ is amazing.

Londonderry's incredible neo-Gothic Guildhall with its beautiful interior and stained-glass windows. The guildhall dates from 1887 but was nearly completed destroyed by fire in 1908. It was rebuilt in 1912 but hit by two terrorist bombs, during the troubles, in 1972. It was restored and reopened in 1977.
Chris K — Google review
Beautiful venue and tourist spot - I delivered training in the Main Hall, which was breathtaking. Superb exhibition in building.
Glenn W — Google review
This place seemed interesting. It has quite a history from being rebuilt from the ground up since 1912 fire. It was renovated in 2013 with a sizable budget. I was thoroughly impressed with the wood carvings and stained glass that some looked to have been salvaged. I watched the Choir competition and the acoustics was really good. Phillipines had a strong show. Dublin and Cork had really talented set. Estonia in their formal dress was very impressive. The local choir set a high bar for the competitors though as they were the opening act. I didn't like the choke points at the top of the stairs, but packing so many people in a limited space has complications. The organizers did a really good job on utilizing the Derry community.

The Peace Bridge in Londonderry is more than just a bridge; it's a symbol of hope, reconciliation, and progress. This iconic structure spans the River Foyle, connecting the city's historic walled city with the modern Ebrington Square. Designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects, the bridge is a marvel of engineering and a stunning piece of contemporary architecture. Its graceful curves and sleek design make it a striking landmark. The bridge's unique shape, with its two halves overlapping at the center, represents a "handshake" between the two sides of the city, a powerful metaphor for the peace process in Northern Ireland. Beyond its architectural significance, the Peace Bridge has become a vital part of the city's social fabric. It's a popular spot for locals and visitors alike, offering stunning views of the river and the city skyline. Whether you're strolling along the bridge, cycling across it, or simply admiring it from afar, you can't help but feel a sense of optimism and hope. The Peace Bridge is a testament to the power of human spirit and a reminder that even the deepest divisions can be bridged.

Beautiful bridge across river Foyle for pedestrians and cyclists. Nice view of city from the bridge. Sunsets and evenings make this place looks photo perfect. It looks much better in reality than my photos lol. You can also access a nice walk along the river through St Columb’s park.

Named after St. Columba, an Irish monk who established a Christian settlement in Derry in the 6th century, the cathedral played a significant role during the Plantation of Ulster.
St. Columb’s Cathedral is a stunning piece of history nestled within the walls of Londonderry. Its imposing Gothic architecture and serene atmosphere create a captivating experience. The cathedral’s interior is filled with intricate details, from the beautiful stained-glass windows to the ornate carvings. One of the highlights is the Chapter House Museum, which houses a fascinating collection of artifacts and documents related to the cathedral’s history. The museum offers a glimpse into the past, showcasing the cathedral’s significance in the city’s development. While the cathedral itself is impressive, it’s the peaceful ambiance that truly stands out. Whether you're seeking a moment of quiet reflection or a deeper understanding of the city’s heritage, St. Columb’s Cathedral is a worthwhile visit.

A super place to visit and the history of it all was amazing. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Looking around the cathedral and learning about the history through the years was the highlight of our trip. I will definitely visit again.

St Columb's Cathedral was built by the City of London in 1633. The current spire only dates from 1822. A fairly ordinary look for a Cathedral but an interesting interior and some beautiful stained glass.
Chris K — Google review
This cathedral is beautiful but sadly lacking anything resembling the Holy Spirit or Christ. It promotes the British military and oppressive colonial rule of the Irish people. Utterly horrifying defense of the indefensible. They should repent, remove the military displays, and seek the forgiveness and reconciliation of the poor and working class of Derry. They should be like Christ, not Cesar.
Aidan W — Google review
Went to see the Christmas trees display. First time in here, and it was a lovely peaceful experience. One of the choir members was there as a helper he was very chatty, warm, and welcoming.
Damian B — Google review
NEVER OPEN?! Even though they list the new-revised opening times on the door - it was seemingly never open when I went. Tried to visit twice, both times around noon (they say they're open 10:00am-3:00pm) but found all the doors to be locked solid. Not sure what's going on there, cool to look at from the outside though.

Brewery
Walled City Brewery is a stylish, family-owned brewpub and eatery known for its craft beer flights and diverse international small plates. Situated on the eastern side of the River Foyle, it offers picturesque views of the old city. The brewery is housed in a former army barracks and has gained recognition as one of Northern Ireland's top bars.
Such great care from the hostess, servers and bartenders. The food was also top notch. We had the cauliflower vegetarian main and a chicken dish. Both far exceeded our expectations. We did not have reservations BUT the hostess found a cancellation and we waited over beers and cider made in house. She found us about 30 minutes early and was so very nice (checking on us throughout the meal). A fantastic first night in Derry!! Close to the Peace Bridge. Hope to be back to try the small batch gins.

One of the best meals I had in Ireland, and their beer was fantastic as well. Everything was made very fresh because they don’t start cooking the next course until you finish what you are having. Amazing service and refreshing food compared to all the fried pub meals I had the rest of the week!
Kaitlin L — Google review
Thank you Walled City Brewery for making our wedding reception one to remember! The Taproom looked amazing and was perfect for our crowd. Everyone had a great time and, of course, the phenomenal food and drink just proved why we picked you in the first place! So many comments about how delicious it all was. The staff were all so friendly and helpful and, of course, Cat ran the whole show seamlessly from start to finish. We couldn't have asked for better!

Nice atmosphere, a wide selection of locally brewed beers. The meat was good, and the dessert as well. The waiters are very friendly.

I have dined in restaurants across the globe, and not a lot compares to this evening’s dinner. The service was absolutely rapid, attentive, and delivered some of the most fantastic food I have ever tasted with a smile for less than one hundred pounds for two. I will be talking about this for years to come.

Craft brewing in the Walled City! This was on our radar, and we were here for the beer. Foyster Stout was my go to, and it did not disappoint. Very well done. And the other, an IPA called Stitch. Both were quite good. Nice job WCB!

We love eating at Breweries but we rarely had such amazing food in one. Good spice level on the dumplings and the seabass and the pork belly were both super beautifully presented and super balanced in flavor. The beer is great too, get the Oyster Stout with the seabass and be amazed!
Original Y — Google review
I had dinner here on 11/20/25, with my husband and another couple. The restaurant is beautiful, the waitress/server was wonderful, very professional and very efficient. I had their fish and chips was supposed to be battered but it was breadcrumbed, I had a side salad that was covered in cheese, despite saying I had a dairy allergy. It was Meh, about a 2/5. I ate one bite of everything on my plate (apart from the side salad) and then I pushed it away. My husband had the flat iron steak which he said was ok and our friends had the cod and I think the chicken. Our friends enjoyed the beers, I am not a beer drinker but the wine selection was sub par. We had 2 desserts which we all shared. This place for me was just ok, along with all the restaurants in Derry. The food in the city has come along way from the old days but still parochial and middle of road. I wouldn't eat here again. It wasn't the worst food I ever had but it definitely wasn't the best.

Hamburger restaurant
Pyke 'N' Pommes (POD on the Riverfront) is a popular food truck turned full-service restaurant located in Derry. Chef Kevin Pyke's vision to promote Britain's street food scene has been successful since its opening in 2013. The menu features creatively named dishes like the Codfather and Notorious P.G., all made with locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant's rustic interior, with rough-hewn tables and reclaimed school chairs, adds to its charm.
I couldn't recommend the Pod enough! I arranged a dinner for my friend's Halloween hen and Ronan couldn't have been more accommodating, we had the top floor of the bus to ourselves and the service & food was amazing. It's such a cool venue, definitely a must try!

Super tasty food you can enjoy while seated in a quirky old bus overlooking the moored boats. Friendly staff and an overall nice atmosphere. While a bit pricey, I'd recommend upgrading the fries!

If I could give more stars I would 🌟 The service was unreal the lady that serviced us was so helpful and kind and also suggested the loaded fries which were unrealllll !! It was taco Tuesday 🌮 So we had one of each Chicken Squid Beef Fish All amazing, fresh flavours and cooked to perfection The loaded fries were the cherry on top with the salsa verde sauce 😚👌🏻 Definitely a must when you’re in Derry

Absolutely a must-visit if you're in Derry! The food is so delicious that I’ve been here twice, and I’m pretty sure the chef sprinkles a bit of magic into each dish. I've had the chicken and beef burgers, and let me tell you, they’re so good they'll make you want to hug the chef. The fries? Fresh, tasty, and likely the reason potatoes haven’t gone extinct yet. We had a lovely experience here today 👍. Staff were so friendly and helpful. All our food was lovely and we all had something different - Cajun Salmon / Steak sandwich / Chicken Goujons and Chicken burger (which was huge!). The mixed berry cheesecake for dessert was lovely too. Service was super quick and staff members checked if we had everything or if we needed anything else. Thank you so much - we'll definitely be back and would recommend to everyone 😊

We had dinner and drinks here tonight and it was just brilliant. Food was lovely, the atmosphere was fantastic, staff all seemed to be happy and were on the ball. Above all the service was outstanding. When we had left I noticed I forgot something and we went back and the staff went above and beyond to find my item for me and it was very much appreciated and we will forever be grateful for the effort the manager and the server Georgia put in. Thanks again!

Went with girls for the Boozy brunch, greeted and seated by friendly staff. Cocktails were lovely! Then food served, all great except the veg weren't great, over cooked and sour/off taste, mentioned to staff member who quickly offered an alternative, so all good in the end. Some more cocktails and we were nice and merry. Overall, great experience and good value for 3 cocktails, a main and a side. Would have liked some healthier options on the menu though!

Lebanese restaurant
Cedar Restaurant in Derry offers a delightful culinary journey through Lebanese cuisine. The menu features a variety of vegetarian and meat-based options, including traditional Mezza platters perfect for sharing. Indulge in the rich flavors of classic dishes like baba ghanoush, hummus, falafel, and chicken shawarma. For dessert, savor the sweet and flaky baklava.
We visited Fri 13th Sept. We'd been meaning to try here for so long but never got around to it. Booked via WhatsApp which was very handy and responses prompt. Upon entry we were greeted with a very warm welcome from the Hostess. The setting/decor is lovely. The music was fitting. We felt they have achieved the goal of transporting you to another country with the overall vibe. The Share starters were very tasty and a great way to try a variety of options rather than committing to one dish. We also enjoyed our Mains. Tasty, new flavours and worth noting everything felt light and healthy, with the absence of rich sauces etc, which was refreshing for us as part of a new dining experience. They dont serve alcohol but you can bring your own with a very reasonable corkage fee and your drinks are conveniently placed by your table in an ice bucket to open at your leisure. We would definitely recommend Ceder if you fancy something new and are willing to break your comfort zone from the usual local style of Bistro food. The service was absolutely fantastic and the owners interacting briefly with the customers is a lovely touch, although not intrusive at all.

It was a great to look at as well, and complemented the lovely decor in this dark and mysterious place! Great for families as well as a romantic meal. The food was great for sharing and was fragrant while being packed with spices. Topping the night off with a lovely Irish coffee really topped off the evening! Thanks for a great night :)

Cedar is a small, cosy restaurant with friendly staff and great food. Vegetarian options are few and far between in most restaurants, but not here. We had the vegetarian taster menu and it was unreal. It was a great way to get introduced to Lebanese food! Everything was so fresh and homemade. A real gem of a place and we can't wait to go back to try something new!

Eaten at Cedar a few times and have never been disappointed. So I booked this restaurant for a private party on one of their closed Sundays and we had the whole place to ourselves. The owners were visiting family in Lebanon when I enquired by text but Berna could not have been more helpful. Menu choices were decided, costs were discussed and numbers were finalised quickly and easily so the party could go ahead on their return. The night itself was the most incredible event. At my request a family style meza was provided to the whole table allowing us to sample a wide range of hot and cold dishes as a group and to simply spend our time chatting and laughing whilst dipping and sharing a food experience. Everyone agreed the food was plentiful and delicious and the serving staff were proactive and courteous. There was nothing too much trouble throughout. In celebration of the occasion I was provided with the princess headwear and other guests were encouraged to don hats and robes for a truly Lebanese atmosphere. There was traditional music and the invite to dance with waiter Ahmed, a truly lively and vibrant guy, who created a very fun participation without intimidating or embarrassing any of the guests. People laughed and clapped and got involved in a way that was very authentic to Middle Eastern culture of family celebrations. Kitchen staff came out to join the dancing and it was such a delight to see the genuine enjoyment. As the host I loved every minute. The food was phenomenal, the restaurant looked inviting, warm and really classy. My guests were all in fine fettle and it was outstanding night. Forever memorable. Thank you all at Ceder

Absolutely fabulous as always. Food is so flavoursome, authentic Middle East tastes and textures, and the meats and mains are not covered in sauces to add flavour, rather the meats and ingredients speak for themselves, just superb. We go to Cedar a few times a year, it never fails to impress, Berna and staff are top notch and service is always above & beyond. Cannot say a bad thing about this place, looking forward to our next visit already. Well done Cedar.

My wife and I are from the US and we visited Ireland back in September 2024, and La Sosta was one of the most special meals we had on this trip. For my primo, I had the ravioli with asparagus, and it was some of the best pasta I've ever had. It reminded me of my trip to Italy! My wife's primo was the rigatoni alla vodka, and it was great also. My secondo was the lamb with mint sauce, and my wife's secondo was the chicken, bacon, and mozzarella dish. Our contorni were roasted potatoes, green beans, and aubergines. The house white wine and sparkling water paired well with the food. For dolci, I had panna cotta with raspberry sauce, and my wife had the gelato. It was fun to practice speaking Italian with the owner also. He made the experience authentic and uniquely Italian. The pace of dining here was leisurely and relaxing, all of the food was outstanding, and we left full and happy!

Very nice restaurant well worth the visit. A bit more expensive than normal but is worth the extra. Staff are welcoming & attentive. If we are back in town it will be on the eating list!

Really enjoyed our meal here. Food was excellent quality and there seemed a real attention to detail; it has an air of luxury and professionalism about it. Glad we went there.

10/10 experience at La Sosta. We had an evening to celebrate our elopement a few weeks ago. They went above and beyond. The place and atmosphere was perfect and the food and service was exceptional. All guests have been in touch to tell us of how impressed they were. Thank you Claudio and Ewa. You are the best.

Lovely meal, really excellent quality food and very good wine selection. Prices on menu online are about £5 per dish cheaper than reality expect £130 for 3 courses for 2 people (incl wine). But despite that we will definitely go back. (No issues with service or atmosphere but always save 5 stars for something really special)

I recommend the steak as the tastiest piece of meat I ever ate in my entire life. The service was attentive and prévoyant. Thankyou La Sosta and Paul who invited us.

Amazing food and service with an extensive wine list. One of the best steaks I've had anywhere in the world, it was truly excellent. Partner had the fish main and raved about both the fish and the sauce. Was very quiet when we were there so not much atmosphere though it is a nice layout and could get lively on busier nights - definitely worth a visit for some fine dining in Derry
