Stratford-upon-Avon

Stratford-upon-Avon, a medieval market town in England’s West Midlands, is the 16th-century birthplace of William Shakespeare. Possibly the most famous writer in the English language, Shakespeare is known for his sonnets and plays such as 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'Hamlet'. The Royal Shakespeare Company performs his plays in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and adjacent Swan Theatre on the banks of the River Avon.

Sights & Landmarks
Shakespeare's Birthplace, located on Henley Street in Stratford-upon-Avon, is a restored 16th-century half-timbered house where William Shakespeare was born and spent his early years. The house features memorabilia, period furnishings, and changing exhibitions related to the Bard.
Very interesting to see where Shakespeare grew up. You can also purchase tickets to go on a tour of his house. The town itself has lovely shops, even an all-year-round Christmas shop. Definitely walk around the town, there are so many interesting facts you can read, along your walk.

With not a lot of time to spare, we ran through this wonderful landmark and got a wonderful experience. Shakespeare’s birthplace felt like a familiar home even though it was our first visit there. The volunteers were incredibly helpful and friendly, went above and beyond to help and support each visitor. The tickets that we bought only covered Shakespeares birthplace but there was an option to see Anne Hathaways home which due to time constraints, we couldn’t do. I also believe that the tickets also allow you to go back over a 12 month period as many times as you want to. All in all, a wonderful place to see, visit and enjoy.

Drop in short visit to Stratford upon Avon, Shakespeare Birthplace. If you start from The Shakespeare Centre then gradually work around from there. Adult price was £30 might be worth seeing if there's discount codes to see if you can pick up cheaper tickets, there are concessions available. I would advise you to pre book online. The price includes Shakespeares, Birthplace, Ann Hathaways cottage and Shakespeares new place. As you walk through Shakespeares Birthplace you come through a large gift shop that's well worth a good look around, my apologies to the ladies in the sop for taking a video, however there's no problem if you care to take a picture. As you walk towards your next stop you'll pass the statue of Shakespeare ideal photo opportunity, to the bottom of the street turn right and just before the Guild Chapel is Shakespeares New Place. Ann Hathaways cottage is further away so maybe hop back into the car and set the GPS to get you there. A very nice walk is to be had along the river and around the park. As we had limited time we will be returning when we have some nice weather and we will make a whole day of it.Theres plenty of gift shops , cafes and bars a a reasonable variety of shops and through the summer there's boat trips to be had. All in all a nice place to visit with plenty to do.

I was very pleased with my visit. I travelled there via the park and ride. I was happy for it to be open on a Monday and as it was not too busy it allowed me to walk around the exhibition in my own time. It was a very informative visit as it included clear and easy to read information as well as volunteers who were well-informed and attentive to visitor questions. I would recommend the visit.

A fascinating place for those who love Shakespeare’s work. If you’re not familiar with his life or literature, it may feel a bit slow or less engaging. Plan anywhere from 40 minutes to 2 hours depending on how deeply you want to explore the museum and the surrounding exhibits.

I really enjoyed our visit to Shakespeare’s birthplace. We bought the 3 site pass at the door and visited here first. We started by going through and exhibit with some background and information on Shakespeare and then outside and in the queue to enter the house. There was about a 10-15 min wait to get into the house itself as we were following a school group. Inside the house there were staff in multiple rooms who provided background to the spaces and information on Shakespeare life and the home. We found it very informative. Before or after entering the house you can walk through the beautiful garden right outside it. The exit is through the bookshop/giftshop.

Lovely experience. Had a live theatre with famous lines being enacted by wonderful actors. Saw Macbeth / Romeo Juliet. There were guides inside to tell us about Shakespeare’s early life with his family. Lovely garden and a very nice gift shop. Bought some lovely souvenirs from there. Weather was perfect. Good reminiscent of life of Shakespeare.

Very charming street with a lovely park. BUT … VERY touristic. If focused on learning about Shakespeare, then this is the place to be. If focused on the Cotswolds and charming villages, then you may wish to skip Stratford Upon Avon and venture to smaller villages that offer a more peaceful experience.

The Royal Shakespeare Theatre, located in Stratford-upon-Avon, is a striking red-brick building dedicated to showcasing Shakespearean works. The theater also features a rooftop restaurant for visitors to enjoy. The venue has received recognition for its architectural design and transformation, with London-based theatre design consultancy Charcoalblues being awarded for their work on the project.
Thoroughly enjoyed seeing "A Winter's Tale" at this charming theatre. The acting was superb and the effects were intriguing. I don't think there's a bad view in this theatre, and the seats were quite comfortable. The ushers were friendly and made check-in easy. If you get a chance, definitely attend one of their productions!
Natalie N — Google review
No matter the performance being staged, the quality and settings are superb! As a larger lady, the seating was a bit snug, but doable! All the staff there are super friendly and very helpful and have just become members, so even better deals etc!

This review is related to the behind-the-scenes tour that you can do at 10:15 AM. I’m sure the play performances are exquisite. If you are a big fan of the behind-the-scenes tour will be indispensable for you. If you have ever been backstage for a theater, you may find this to be of interest Otherwise, it really wasn’t that interesting of a tour and I wish I wouldn’t have gone on it. I do hope to see a play here sometime in the future.

We discovered that the RSC did tours by chance whilst we sheltered from the rain. Lucky we did as the tour was amazing and David our guide was excellent and provided an excellent narrative of the history of this theatre and its history. Easily navigated even for those who are less ambulant. It offers a great insight into this building and the history. Do this if you are in town.

🎭✨ Behind the curtain at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre A dream come true for any theatre lover — today we visited the iconic Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, home of the legendary Royal Shakespeare Company. 🎟️🌿 The highlight? The costume exhibition, where centuries of stage magic come alive through beautifully crafted gowns, crowns, swords, and velvet cloaks. 👑🗡️✨ Each piece tells a story — worn by actors who brought Shakespeare’s words to life night after night. Standing among those costumes felt like stepping straight into Hamlet or Macbeth… only with better lighting and no tragic endings this time 😅🎬 Truly a place where history, art, and imagination meet under one spotlight. 🌟🎭

we've seen avery good play of "Cyrano de Bergerac"! Thanks to the actors 👍🙏. We had an wonderful evening in the theatre. I took a friend from Germany with me and although his English knowledge is not very good and the play is based on a lot of witty words he enjoyed the play very much. It was a truly amazing evening.

Awesome modern theatre designed to mimic the C16th stage. Called the Swan Theatre it occupies the Victorian turret. Group tour was very informative with excellent guide. Would be fulfilling to see a production here.

Great Place for Shakespeare fans Sadly we could not see a play, but we were already happy to see this historical place and the shop where we were able to purchase a few Shakespearian souvenirs. The place itself has on top of the Theater a café & a restaurant and obviously the boutique. Very close to the canal so great to visit and then go for a stroll. It was all really nice to peruse & visit. Highly recommended!

Anne Hathaway's Cottage, located just a mile outside of the city center in Shottery near Stratford-upon-Avon, is a wattle-and-daub family home that offers visitors a unique insight into the life of William Shakespeare and his wife. The cottage itself is surrounded by idyllic countryside and features original furniture.
A beautiful location and the house and grounds were lovely, especially the orchard and the sculptures. Front garden was empty which was a shame but we think they were revamping and considering the recent hot weather doesn't difficult to keep plants going. Susan the tour guide at the front of the house was excellent and friendly well work a listen to, to get the background story. the Cafe opposite was super clean and had a small but excellent menu and gardens to sit in.
Annette G — Google review
We really loved our visit to Anne’s house. Located on the outskirts of town, it’s setting with the gardens and orchard were absolutely idyllic. In the house, there were staff at different locations, explaining and demonstrating different parts of the home and how certain items (like the oven) worked. They were highly informative and added to our visit. Rooms also had many signs with background info. They sell cider from the apples on the farm (as well as many other souvenirs). I found it to be both quiet at relaxing at the time of our visit.
Alyssa B — Google review
Visited the cottage as part of the package ticket we purchased to see various Shakespeare sites. Went on a Monday afternoon in September and it was quiet, free of the tourist groups. The volunteers we interacted with were extremely knowledgeable and friendly, explaining the history and interesting facts. There is a nearby car park that you have to pay to park, and it’s a short walk to the cottage.

Absolutely charming place! 🏡✨ Anne Hathaway’s Cottage is a beautiful slice of history surrounded by peaceful gardens and flowers that look straight out of a fairy tale 🌸🌿 The house itself is full of character — you can really imagine Anne and young Shakespeare wandering around here, planning sonnets and secret dates 😄🎭 Lovely staff, well-maintained grounds, and plenty of photo spots (especially for hopeless romantics like me 💕). A must-visit when in Stratford-upon-Avon — I’d happily come back every year! 🌷📸

We were lucky to have beautiful weather which made for great outdoor photos, the guides we're very informative with the History of the cottage. It is in beautiful condition. Hopefully it'll be around for many more years to come, for the future visitors to enjoy it as we did

A lovely cottage in extensive grounds, with lots of history. Worth taking time, looking at the exhibits, and particularly listening to and conversing with the guides. All were knowledgeable, and presented in an interesting way. Recommended

Travelled from London to spend the day in Stratford and went to the Shakespeare birthplace in the morning. After lunch we went to anne Hathaway’s cottage and it was a charming place. The tour was wonderful and the gardens were quite pleasant.
Caleb N — Google review
Just a short drive away from Stratford-upon-Avon is this exquisite cottage. It's an intriguing place, steeped in local history and the Hathaway family. The stewards are very knowledgeable and welcoming. There is a lovely garden cafe across the road, and a nice gift shop which also has some cottage garden plants for sale just outside. The extensive grounds are stunning and include a cottage garden, an orchard, an arboretum with several Shakespearean sculptures, a delightful lawned edge area with box hedging and so on. It's worth buying the Shakespeare’s Story tickets because they cover all three homes, and you can revisit within the year after purchase.

Farms
Located in Stratford-upon-Avon, the Stratford Butterfly Farm is a popular attraction that draws numerous visitors each year. It boasts a rainforest-like greenhouse where thousands of colorful butterflies flutter around. The Insect City houses rare invertebrates, while the discovery zone showcases every stage of the butterfly's life cycle. Additionally, visitors can explore Minibeast Metropolis to encounter snakes, reptiles, amphibians, and other creepy crawlies.
It was very easy to find but parking close by was tricky. We were very lucky to get such a close spot. The butterfly farm itself is beautiful it's like stepping into a jungle. It is extremely hot in there so wear loose clothing, especially for little ones and bring water. The butterflies are amazing and beautiful. It was very enchanting to watch so many just flying around each section. There are toilets, they were very clean and had many stalls so didn't have to wait at all. It would have been nice to have staff talk to us about their iguanas which were very active and beautiful but to protect them also from unruly kids, as some parents were very lacks on letting their small kids poke them with rolled-up papers or sticks. Over all it was very cool experience my 10 year old loved it

This place is an absolute delight. The tropical setting is beautiful, filled with vibrant plants and butterflies fluttering all around. It feels magical. The variety of species is amazing, and the insect displays are fascinating and educational for all ages. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the farm. Everything is well cared for, making it a relaxing and memorable visit. A wonderful experience and a must-see in Stratford-upon-Avon! 🦋✨

Overall, a fantastic experience- not as big as I was hoping (I’ve been to much bigger ones in France) - a bit disappointing size wise- but very well maintained. I was imagining an actual biosphere, but it’s medium in size with a central area that has a koi carp pond and a mini beast area too- with lizards, snakes and reptiles. The gift shop is great and the variety of butterflies is really good… Parking is ample but not free. Really nice day out- drive 2 hours to get there but was worth it.

Went here today. Not a huge place, isn't a whole day out but we really enjoyed it! Butterflies kept landing on us. Really recommend. Think for a smaller place that need to upkeep and maintain, the price was reasonable. Gift shops good, mixture of items. Would go again! Daughter loved it she's 13.

You walk into the shop/till area to buy tickets and then go through some rubber curtains (to stop Butterlies escaping), then you follow the signs around the building and it's great. Butterflies just freely flying around, some land on you. There were a few areas that needed work as some butterflies had been trapped between netting. The retile section was awesome and they have ants walking above your head!! Good fun for a rainy day too

October 2025, This place surprised me lots of different butterfly's to see and plenty of photo opportunities both butterfly'sand plants alike, I spent a good one and a half hours and really enjoyed it. Spoke with a member of staff who was knowledgeable and very polite. For less than 10 pound per person its well worth a visit.

Such a lovely experience. Walking around at your own pace in a beautiful tropical setting with fish pools and fountains and butterflies in every colour and size flying around and even landing on you!! You go from amazement to amazement. Every five seconds we were spotting something new, interesting and exciting! I was lucky enough to have three butterflies that seemed to live my yellow hoodie so much that they didn't want to get off at the end and I had to encourage each of them onto my hand so I could get them to walk onto a plant. A lovely escape from the 'usual'. Staff all very pleasant and helpful and a good gift shop at the end. Great place to bring kids to.

I had a great time at the Stratford Butterfly Farm. The place is peaceful, warm, and full of beautifully coloured butterflies flying all around you. The indoor tropical gardens are well-kept, and there’s plenty to see — from exotic plants to fascinating insects and reptiles. The staff were friendly and happy to answer questions. It’s a lovely spot for a relaxing visit, and perfect if you enjoy nature and unique experiences. Definitely worth stopping by when you’re in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Located in the heart of Stratford upon Avon, The MAD Museum is a unique attraction showcasing interactive mechanical art and design. The museum's exhibits feature buttons, handles, lights, and sound effects that allow visitors to engage with kinetic art and automata. These moving sculptures are sourced from artists worldwide and offer an immersive experience for both children and adults. If you're unfamiliar with mechanical art, think of the whimsical machines seen in Wallace and Gromit or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
🎡 MAD Museum – Stratford-upon-Avon 🎡 If you ever wondered what happens when art, science and pure madness meet… welcome to The MAD Museum! 🤯💡 It’s a brilliant mix of moving sculptures, clever mechanisms, and “how on earth does this even work?!” moments. From marble runs to kinetic art – everything moves, spins, clicks, or surprises you when you least expect it! ⚙️🎨 We pressed buttons, pulled levers, and probably set off more machines than we were supposed to 😅 Perfect place for curious minds, big kids, and anyone who secretly loves pushing every single button in sight! 🚀 Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Stratford – just don’t expect to leave without saying “wow” at least ten times! 😄 #MADMuseum #StratfordUponAvon #FunDayOut #ScienceMeetsArt #CuriousMinds #WeekendAdventures #TravelWithBabs

We recently visited this place and had a wonderful experience overall. The venue features a lot of interactive contraptions and truly creative art pieces that spark curiosity and imagination. The environment is very engaging, especially for children they were genuinely excited and thoroughly enjoyed exploring everything on offer. That said, there are a couple of areas where improvements could enhance the experience. First, while the interactive installations are visually captivating, the inability to physically engage with most of them makes some exhibits feel more like animations than hands-on art. Adding more tactile or physical interaction would elevate the experience further. Secondly, a few of the major attractions, including the highly anticipated marble run, were unfortunately out of order during our visit. These are usually a big hit with kids, so it was a bit of a letdown. Despite these small drawbacks, it’s a unique and imaginative space that’s definitely worth a visit especially for families with curious young minds. Would recommend children age 5+.

Absolutely amazing place to visit. Especially good on either a rainy day or when it’s boiling hot outside and you need some aircon! Even just entering the museum there’s a ball contraption that I got stuck watching for 5 minutes. Don’t be fooled by the size of the museum as you genuinely could take 1-2 hours to look through everything. Every single contraption is a work of art, and you can watch them for minutes on end. They are all operated by waving your hand in front of a sensor that’s located next to each machine. It kept me and my girlfriend entertained for over an hour. There’s even a make your own marble contraption in the back of the museum where you stick wooden tracks onto a metal wall and run marbles down. We got sidetracked doing this for a very long time! The price is extremely good and well worth a visit. Highly recommended.
Alex W — Google review
Wow, what an amazing little museum, we spent just shy of 2 hours here, mainly as the exhibits can be viewed again and again. All the exhibits can be started by waving a hand so very user friendly for small children. The marble machines are mesmerising if they stuck a chair in front of them I'd have been there for hours! They have a room for kids to make their own marble runs as well. Even the toilets are worth a visit as the theme is continued into them Overall a brilliant museum to kill a couple of hours plus under 6's go free.
Sarah M — Google review
A great way to spend an hour; but, only really good value if you get a 'buy one, get one free' ticket. You can get those through the train website. Lots of animatronics to look at and some cool things in the shop. They accept the Blue Light card. A great place for kids, engineers and those who like to see something a little different or learn something new.
Mary J — Google review
This was our first visit but definitely not the last. Next time we are bringing Grandad!! A brilliant afternoon with so many interactive models and displays. The marble runs were our favourite. Clean facilities and friendly staff. Loved it!
CatherineL — Google review
This is a fantastic little museum to visit. It’s a little grubby but I can only imagine the difficulty in keeping some of the detailed creations completely dust free. Entry prices are completely reasonable and almost set with the consideration of fairness and not just a money maker. Gift shop is however, very steep for the selection of buys on offer. Still a 5 star though as it kept a family of 5 entertained for just over an hour with some really good interactive bits included as well. If you’ve got the patience to read the A4 sheet associated with every model in there, you could stay there for a couple hours but either way, it’s a fairly priced, attention keeping little place of wonder.
David M — Google review
The MAD Museum was a great venue on our rainy day good for children and adults alike, it’s a hands on experience that mesmerises your attention and makes you forget the world as you plunge into the amazing mechanical movements and the rolling of marbles or just sit back and watch the children explore. El Greco is a two-story restaurant in Stratford-upon-Avon, offering Greek dishes and meze banquets in contemporary, monochrome interiors. The restaurant is located in a historic building with delightful views over the Market Square and Minories. It's a family affair run by chef Patron Dimitrios, his wife manages the dining room, and their son is learning the trade.
What an amazing meal. We are very used to Greek food and love it and El Greco do it so well. We hadn’t booked and received a warm welcome and were shown to a great seat. We opted for the mezze and it was amazing, all of it! So much food, accompanied by excellent service and a relaxed atmosphere.
Tony ( — Google review
Amazing experience! ✨ The mezze option here is amazing and so reasonable, you get to try 22 dishes and only costs you £30 per person! My favourite starters were the fasulia, calamari and the pita breads + dips are amazing. The best main by far was the beef stew Stifado but honestly it was all amazing. Don't worry you get some sweets included with some delicious baklava and kataifi served with honeycomb ice cream 🍦 I came here to celebrate my new job and they gave me a balloon on the table to congratulate me and all the staff congratulated me on my new job. It's the little things 😀

Went here for a pre-theatre meal. We opted for the signature meze. The food was fabulous and authentic. Took us back holidays in Greece. Washed down with the Retsina and a glass of the house rose. Service was welcoming and efficient. I recommend you book, but there is plenty of seating upstairs. Would definitely go back when in the area. Excellent value for money.

I went here a few weeks ago and coming back next week! I didn’t even mean to find this hidden gem! Was taking a walk around Stratford with my partner and I saw the name and loving Greece my eyes lit up! So we went straight in! Welcomed by a lovely lady, ordered a Stifado (my favourite Greek dish) and my partner ordered the Greek burger. We both absolutely loved the food felt like I was back in my favourite place in corfu! Now my local Greek restaurant is shut in Coventry this will now be my new favourite!

Great food, we didn’t have to wait long to be served. Prices were great. Staff very welcoming and friendly. We’d come back again!

Very well presented Greek restaurant. Very warm welcome. Front of house - (having used there online booking service days before) there was a very pleasant phone call on the morning of date to finalise booking and, when we arrived, the same lady welcomed us warmly and allocated a us a member of their table staff. From being seated, we found the restaurant very clean with a warming, family environment. The service was brilliant. The food was of good portion size and we were both amazed with the quality/tastes. We both had the set 3 course option and -110% to value for money. Highly recommend 👌🏽 Trust the rest of you will have the same fantastic experience we did 🤜🏽🤛🏽 Ok, not the best pics of food.... failed to photo amazing starter (sorry). App is asking for price spent/person. OK, we had a superb bottle of house white to accompany meal which, with tip, brought final to £40 per person. No drink and no tip (at this time of post) would have been £26/person.... Yes! 110% recommend..... Enjoy 🥰
Steve P — Google review
We had dinner here on one of the coldest nights of the year and where we sat had windows on 3 sides. I felt like my feet were going to drop off. The restaurant did have a plug in portable radiator, but unfortunately for me it was being used by other diners. The waiting staff were both very friendly and patient whilst we ordered, and again whilst we left, probably being the last few to leave. My meal was fine and cooked nicely. I thought there would be more roasted vegetables served with it, but no. Dessert was very sweet, and the cake not to my taste so I did not finish it. The restaurant was busy and atmosphere, other than temperature, was good. So if you enjoy Mediterranean cuisine and good service, El Greco would be a good choice to consider.

Lambs is a charming restaurant located in a 16th-century building with wood beams on Sheep Street in Stratford-upon-Avon. The historic venue has served various purposes over the years and now houses a cozy bistro-style European eatery. The menu features market-fresh and local ingredients, with highlights such as succulent Gressingham duck, vegan chili, and marbled chocolate mousse cake.
Wonderful evening with great food and wine and professional service. Could not fault it. Lived near Stratford for 4 years and been meaning to visit. It absolutely lived up to the great reputation it holds.

The food was good, though it didn’t quite live up to the expectations set by the price. While the dishes were tasty and well-presented, they lacked that extra something to make them truly exceptional. The atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely, providing a comfortable and enjoyable setting for our meal. The staff was attentive and friendly, making sure we had everything we needed throughout our visit.

Lovely cosy restaurant. Absolutely top notch service. Portion is okayish compared to the price but the taste is phenomenal. Plenty of seats. I had a virgin mojito and it was actually good not gonna lie.

Came here for our anniversary and the food was amazing. We got the lamb with the potato dauphinoise. The lamb was cooked to perfection and the potato dauphinoise was the best I’ve ever had! Staff forgot to bring our starter out, but were very apologetic and gave us complimentary desserts and a drink to make up for it -which was unexpected and very much appreciated! Staff are all very friendly and eager to assist and the atmosphere is lovely. We’d been to another restaurant in the area the night before which had been a poor experience and Lambs helped restore our faith in the local restaurants of Stratford. Would definitely recommend to anyone coming to visit the area!

The food at Lambs was extraordinary. I've had some bad lamb in the past, so I was hessitant, but the lamb dish was excellent. Surprisingly the green beans were very very good. Flavor like I have not tasted before. The service was personable and available. Great choice for a night out.

Wonderful restaurant. We had Sunday roast and it was really good. The staff were very helpful and happy to adapt the food to fit my wife's dietary needs.

My favourite restaurant in town. I only visit Stratford on business once every 2 to 3 years. Lambs seems to get better each time I visit. Low ceilings add to the welcoming atmosphere. Book for dinne. Service is prompt, but unhurried. A good selection: Rack of Lamb is as good as everyone says, complimented with buttery dauphinoise, mustard green beans - more filling than it looks. Save room for dessert - nothing disappoints. Wine selection for most budgets. A winning formula that reels me in every time I'm in town

I booked a table here because it had calves liver ( our real favourite) on the menu. Loxleys Restaurant & Wine Bar is a charming two-floor establishment in Stratford-upon-Avon, featuring exposed brickwork, an open fire, and terrace seating. It's a local favorite that attracts day trippers as well. The menu offers a mix of British and European cuisine with options like Welsh rarebit and tempura prawn tacos. The restaurant boasts eclectic interiors with plenty of foliage and flora defining the dining room.
I'll begin by saying Ella was amazing! From the moment I walked in the door, she had a welcoming smile on her face. I challenged Ella as I usually do most servers and she really made my experience great! Likewise, the dishes I had were delicious. I had the crispy pork salad, the prawn in garlic sauce, and the salted cod fritters. The pork was fantastic, however, I would recommend making the butter sauce a bit more appealing for the prawn. Finally, the fritters were great, a bit too salty and not enough crunch from the cod inside. On that note, I think the salted cod app would do well with slightly frying for a bit of texture. Overall, I had a wonderful time, and left with a satisfied stomach.

The perfect night out. My wife and I first came to Loxleys 5 years ago on the same day that I proposed. We booked the same date 5 years on to celebrate our 10 anniversary together. The service was as incredible as the food was delicious. Patricia was brilliant and even brought out a complimentary dessert to celebrate the occasion. Already looking forward our next visit. Thanks so much for making our night so memorable and special!

Thank you for a lovely evening Loxleys. We sat in a small room on the left hand side of the entrance. It was beautifully decorated. I was greeted with Happy Birthday wishes & received a card. As the night progressed two other couples arrived who were also celebrating birthdays. We had such a fun evening. The food was delicious. I had the carrot salad & truffle fries. My OH had steak which he enjoyed. Service was impeccable. Thank you Loxleys.

I visited Loxleys in Stratford-upon-Avon on Friday night for a romantic dinner with my fiancée, and we had a wonderful evening. From the moment we walked in, the staff were warm, attentive and genuinely friendly. That level of service stayed consistent throughout the night, which made the whole experience feel relaxed and welcoming. We ordered the châteaubriand with both peppercorn and Stilton sauce, and it did not disappoint. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing - one of the best we’ve had. The atmosphere was lovely too, exactly what we wanted for a romantic dinner. Unfortunately, a nearby customer spent quite a bit of time loudly on a phone call, which did take away from the mood a little, though of course that was out of the restaurant’s control. Overall, it was a lovely evening with great food and excellent service. We’d definitely return next time we’re in the area.

We came here for the first time for our 1 year wedding anniversary meal and had a lovely evening. The food, staff and atmosphere were all excellent. They had a full gluten free menu which was very extensive and had several items on you struggle to find as gluten free. We had the squid and chicken wings (both GF) as starter and the lamb and steak mains. Would highly recommend for a lovely evening out. Will definitely be coming back!

Excellent food as always and great service. We had feta spring roll for starters and it was amazing then steak for mains which is always great. Well worth a visit when going to Stratford. Only negative would be the introduction of service charge which is 10%.

Lovely old restaurant with great service and good food. We were seated in the upstairs area which has fantastic exposed wooden beams, I would recommend sitting upstairs. There is a 3 course set menu which runs until 6.30pm each day, making it very good value.

Really classy venue, I tried wine and appetizers, sitting between the bar and the window. The service was friendly and fast and the food perfectly prrpared and presented. Large selection of wines and appetizers and it is a full restaurant with broad menu - but I tried only the wine and appetizers.

Bistro
Restaurant
Tucked away on Sheep Street in the vibrant heart of Stratford-upon-Avon, The Opposition Bistro is a delightful haven for both theatre enthusiasts and food lovers. With two decades of culinary expertise under its belt, this charming bistro has become a staple in the local dining scene. Housed within a historic 16th-century building, it beautifully marries modern design with traditional elements, creating an inviting atmosphere.
Great old building, had a number of locals eating which is always a good sign. Food was gastro pub style, really tasty and plentiful. Crab salad was delicious as was fish of the day…Wine was great. Staff were lovely, really nice atmosphere. I’d definitely eat here all the time if I lived local. Definitely book if you are there Fri or Sat

Went here for the first time last night. Really good, tasty food. Lovely glass of white wine. The Pork fillet and slow roasted pork belly with dauphinois potato and savoy cabbage was spot on. Only thing I felt let this experience down was our young waitress. Not very warm or friendly. No smiles. No personality or charisma. Very young, which could be the factor, just could have been given a smile or two.

I would label my experience at The Opposition as disappointing. Perhaps because I ordered the special, the restaurant seems poor to me, but it failed to meet the expectations the reviews made it. The dish's name escapes me; however, the attached image illustrates its apparent Mexican influence. The selected fish did not complement the sauce, which was too light. To be honest, the dish overall had a bad combination that left me feeling nauseous afterward. The Pros were the service and the ambiance. I found the service to be satisfactory in relation to the price. The atmosphere at Opposition was charming; I particularly appreciated the homey feel. In general, I am unable to endorse this establishment as a result of the dish I consumed.

We had a superb lunch at this beautiful characterful restaurant. Staff were so kind and attentive, food was absolutely superb. We had Salmon fishcake with wilted spinach and a divine sauce, hot and beautifully presented. The sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream was also gorgeous. The atmosphere was happy and friendly, with guests sharing stories of where they were from with other guests and the staff. Everyone was extremely impressed with food when we were there. We will definitely be returning, but will make sure we stay overnight so we can enjoy a leisurely dinner. Thank you to everyone, it was a superb experience.

Great food( the cod was delicious) really quick service as they enquire if you're attending the theatre. Really well placed for pre theatre dining, and central in Stratford) Desserts were also really tasty. Highly recommend 👌

We had a lovely evening at The Opposition. It is a warren of spaces which makes it more intimate for dining. The service was friendly and efficient. The menu interesting without being weird. We were stuck for choice but diligently made our choices. Everyone one enjoyed their meal and if we lived locally would definitely go back.

Wow! Would dine here time and time again. In a society filled with Pizza Express, Zizzis and so much more. I've paid same prices and not had either the food or service that this restaurant has to offer. Loved it, thank you for the breath of fresh air that we had today, true English dining experience!! Service 10/10

Went into lambs next door and it was full but they directed us here as it was their sister restaurant. We had the meatball starter, chicken and banoffee pie and everything was great. Service was friendly and the prices were fair. The chicken and chips was done really well. They also had a mussels special which seemed very popular.

Tea house
The Fourteas Tea-Room Brasserie in Stratford-Upon-Avon offers a unique vintage-themed experience, celebrating the 1940s with music, costumes, and a menu designed to resemble a ration book. The owner's background at The Ritz in London is evident in the attention to detail. Housed in a 500-year-old townhouse just 100 meters from The Royal Shakespeare Theatre, this tea room provides an immersive experience without feeling like a mere theme cafe.
For the first time in my life I tasted the French Onion Soup and it was better than expected. The afternoon tea was so good, with a minus for the tea - no hot enough. I don't know if it was on purpose or a mistake. Good atmosphere, nice music. Overall a good experience.

We came for breakfast here and thoroughly enjoyed it! Staff friendly and attentive, food absolutely outstanding! Everything tasted amazing! We were first in so was nice and quiet, but still had a lovely atmosphere, fantastic music, relaxed feeling, highly recommended.

I’ve come from America and This tea room is absolutely amazing!!! The food is fresh and delicious. The environment is atmospheric and welcoming! The staff are very polite, prompt and professional. You will not regret stepping back in time!

I came here with my partner and mum and we had a fabulous time. The staff clearly have a love of the place, which is understandable as it has a beautiful aesthetic and fabulous food. The sandwiches are generously filled, the soup properly fills you up and even the crisps are homemade! After our lunch went down we had tea and cakes. I have never had a better scone anywhere and the house tea blend is beautifully refreshing. My partner had a selection of cakes so wonderfully constructed I was amazed they were made in house. They have to be seen (and tasted) to be believed. We chatted with the lady who made them and her passion and talent is extremely evident. The music and decor were both 10/10 in their own right and I am already planning my birthday party here. Customer for life, can’t wait to go again.

Lovely place and lovely food! Its a shame as its lost some of the vintage charm it used to have when it first opened and expanded, but still worth a visit and the french onion soup is amazing!

Visited the Tearoom today to celebrate a very special friend’s birthday. Staff were so welcoming, polite and friendly and went out of their way to accommodate our dietary requirements. The cream tea was absolute delicious, with generous portions of freshly made sandwiches, delicious cakes and scones. When they learned that we were celebrating a birthday, the staff gave us a complimentary delicious cocktail. The tearoom is beautifully decorated and we loved the 1940’s music and memorabilia. A really enjoyable afternoon. Thank you everyone.

Lovely experience and a nice lunch! I had this excellent sandwich. Reminded me how fantastic coronation chicken is! Food was traditional and done very well. Would recommend if you are looking for something yummy and with a nice twist of the theme!

A delightful tea room. I visited at the weekend for brunch, but on a previous occasion I have been for afternoon tea - both were excellent. The portions are well-sized, and all the food is locally sourced. The range of tea is, as you would hope, excellent. The tea room has it's own special blend, which is delicious but during my recent visit I also got to try the chai tea and a strawberry chocolate tea. I am now resolved to buy some of the strawberry chocolate for myself! The service is friendly and attentive, and the general ambience is lovely. Highly recommend a visit, and next time I am in the area I plan to return!
