Stopped here on our cruise and walked around the lovely town. Everyone so helpful and friendly too. Take the cruise through the fjords if you can, they are stunning!

A gentle breeze carries the scent of the sea, mixing with the aroma of freshly baked bread. It's easy to lose yourself in the magic of this preserved neighborhood.

The Lyse fjord is yet another wonder of nature is this blessed part of Norway. It is definitely a must go if you are visiting Stavanger or surroundings. The boat tour provides some stunning visuals of the formations, including a close stop by a waterfall near by.

AMAZIIIIIING!! After my 4th hiking trip to Norway, I have never seen a more stunning spot in Norway as such. Lysebotn village is very beautifully located in a very picturisque place. You can hike to Peikestolen (Pulpit rock), Flørli 4444 wooden stairs, Kjeragbolten and Kalelli. You will be rewarded with amazing untouched beauty everywhere.

By boat from Stavanger to the Lysefjord and back again. A very nice trip overlooking the beautiful wild nature of the fjord. Takes 3.5 hours and never bores for a moment. You can stay inside on the boat and enjoy fresh coffee with a cinnamon roll or go outside on the upper deck to see everything even better and get a nice breath of fresh air.

Nice but over rated. Pulpit rock viewed from the bottom will be a real disappointment. Better to take the hike if you can. The cruise on a fast boat takes 3 hours. Better to go in the morning as the sun hits the rock straight on. We were lucky with a cloudless day in June but be prepared for wet raining cold day.

We went through Lysefjord on a boat cruise from Stavanger. It was very beautiful, and hard to appreciate or envision the height until seeing other boats on the water. It was worth the trip as there were several beautiful sites along the way in addition to the general scenic fjord views.

I visited this place back in Jun 2017. It was my first ever fjord visit! I took the Rodne Fjord Cruise's Pulpit rock cruise and hike package. The weather was not on my side that day with rain and clouds. But the skies cleared as we went into the fjord and I enjoyed it thoroughly! Its absolutely beautiful.

Very informative, interesting and interactive. This museum wasn't top of my list when I first came to Stavanger but I really enjoyed it and I'd recommend going. The history was fascinating and there were a lot of interactive elements.

Great museum. It is quite specific museum and if somebody is not really interesting on offshore, oil and gas industry probably will be bored. I am crazy about that and I was so happy to have a chance to visit that place. My close friends and relatives works in Norwegian oil and gas industry and it was so heart touching to see platforms they worked on or built. Very friendly stuff. Very clean and generally modern and new building. Clean toilets. My kid loved visitors game and a prize ❤️. She loves it and for now the prize is her the biggest treasure. Price is quite high. It was something about 250 NOK for 1 adult and a school age kid but still worth. And what I like the most - the museum is open from 10:00 while all the other museums are open from 11:00. From my side - I do recommend to visit that place.

Interesting visit included on our Viking tour. We had to detour here because of bad weather going to the shetlands, so we did a walking tour of the city which was interesting as well as visiting the museum. Be advised, though, there are many hills and slopes, so if you have a problem with walking, you may not want to do the tour.

Intriguing museum about an important part of Norwegian history. It features interactive exhibits that are in both Norwegian and English. I recommend the vertical movie located at the end of the tour of the model oil platform. Was really interesting to see how the oil and gas were pulled up in a vertical, immersive way.

Must visit when you are in Stavanger. It gives a great insight in the history of Norwegian petrol industry which has made the foundation of a Norwegian welfare state. Also a good historical exposition of Stavanger city and interactive games. Interesting both for the kids and grownups.

Nice small museum giving a lot of knowledge about petroleum business. I really loved all the showpieces and models explainig how crude oil od extracted from the sea bed.

If you are into tough engineering projects, this is for you. The history of Norway oil exploration and extraction in the North Sea. Very impressive.

Awesome historical site with interesting art installations. Very busy on cruise days but can be a convenient independant excursion since it is a short 15 minute Uber ride from the cruise port.

Beautiful place, 3 swords symbolise (peace , unity and freedom), swords in rock. Nice place for nature walk, there is sitting chairs next to it like a beach side.

Loved this place, dark, moody and somewhat foreboding. Well it was on the day we came. We were on the Cruise ship "Iona" which had docked in Stavanger that morning. There were some organised trips but to be honest we thought we would just make our own way there. Not being the most energetic of people I opted for an UBER which was about £20 each way. On arrival there were plenty of people there but we still got to get the requisite photos on our own by the swords. They are, I have to say, impressive. Not 'Angel of the North' impressive but not far off. They sit on a small promontory with sea on three sides which adds to the ambiance. I also took a photo with my back to the swords looking out round the bay. Definitely a spot you should always aim to go if your in the area.

It’s absolutely beautiful here. Took scooters from the old town. Took about 30 minutes. Situated right on the water and very Viking-esque. Worth seeing.

We got the local hop on hop off bus so managed to see a few points of interest in stavanger. This was one of our favourites. Had a walk round the lake which was picturesque and peaceful. We had amazing weather so think that helps as.

Had a nice walk to this place. The wind was strong but luckily we got some sun. The see looked beautiful under the sun, and we could enjoy our visit better.

This beautiful cathedral is 900 years old and is the oldest cathedral in Norway. It is worth the small entry fee of around £5 to see the wonderful interior. The style is Romanesque/gothic. The first organ was installed in 1622, then in 1992 a classical organ by the Reil brothers was installed requiring modifications to the roof structure. I did hear the organ as they were doing some rehearsals and it sounded amazing, hopefully I can go back when they have a service. I would highly recommend a visit.

The Stavanger Cathedral church bells were ringing marking time, the surrounding was calm and bright as it gets on a cloudy Stavanger day and the bells melodious ringing for a  duration indicating time of 12.30PM and in my memory prompted a lyric....... "Ring them bells Saint Peter where the four winds blow, Ring them bells with an iron hand, Oh,it's rush hour now... ......................." Bob Dylan It was a unique experience in entering a cathedral  felt that we were ushered into the Cathedral entrance and the Almighty calling us...on the 28th November 2024 and as we entered through the main door we had a magnificent view of the long church and on entering we could see the two long aisles on the side which gave the impression of a very large space and very quiet and peaceful one with the roof four storey high(estimated) building dispelling the lyrics wordings "it is rush hour now" The seating capacity of the church is 800 we learnt and the rows and rows of chairs were looking very orderly and precisely laid out. Stavanger Cathedral is unique in that the original structure was in the Anglo Norman style and as   traditionally historical records handed down was built in 1125 AD after Sigurd Jorasalfarer( Sigurd the Crusader) the King of Norway named Stavanger as a Cathedral city and Bishop Reniald the Bishop of Winchester was responsible for the construction. The unique architectural elements are rounded arches, round-arch blind arcades and have included videos which show these elements and the uniqueness is that these have been retained in the existing structure in spite of remodelling due to fire in 1225 and many attempts at modernisation. This church is under renovation and the renovation of the interior is extensive as it has been so since the last few years as we undestandand is obvious if one were to view pictures from a few years earlier.The Cathedral is open for a few hours a day and work completion would likely take some time into the new year. At the entrance of the cathedral there is an Epitaph which commemorates thek fact that Stavanger has been bestowed with the status of a Cathedral with a Bishop by oSigurd Joraslfarer in the Epitaph. In the Cathedral there are 4 epitaphs at the four corners and they are removed and will be restored as the restoration progresses, recalling the Epitaph dedicated to Humble 1661,Godzten1660-1662 & Fransen 1674. and could not record the last one. The Humble epitaph is a commemorative plaque for Marcus Christensen Humble as archbishop in Stavanger and the family portrait was attributed to Anders Luritsen Smith.  Through recent research, the wood carving work has now  been attributed to sculptor Peiter Negelsen also. Godzten 1660-1662 is a memento of Stefren Pedersen Godtzen, who was mayor of Stavanger, Woodcarver work and family portrait was attributed to Anders Lauritsen Smith. Through recent research, the woodcarver's work has also been attributed to sculptor Peiter Neigesen Fransen Epitaph 1674The Franson epitaph is a commemorative over*North Rogaland woodcarver's work and the portrait painting is, like the other epitaphs, attributed to Anders Lauritsen Smith and also to unknown painter With the visit to long aisles and the dead ends with display the Epitaphs the glass stained pictures captivates us visually and it would be interesting to have the story of each stained glass We have also enclosed a video of the church internally from the nave showing the demarcation of the Anglo Norman style and the later Gothic style and from the nave the wall frame which encompasses the stained glass stories is the demarcation line and further demarcated by the crucifix at the top Stavanger Cathedral which we are told is of the vintage of Notre Dame which had Bishop in 1163 AD and Stavanger Cathedral had a Bishop in 1125 AD. A Cathedral not to be missed on Stavanger Norway visit.

Loved this museum. Your ticket gives you free entry on the same day to about 4 other museums and half price entry the following day. A museum about books and printing which leads nicely in to printing on tinned fish and canning fish. There's also a small dwelling decked out as it would have been decades ago. Toilets and a very popular cafe inside.

An absolute gem! One of those rare museums that you actually learn something from it since it was so well explained. The only reason why I don't give the 5 * is for the canning part that it was too long. Parts of it felt a bit unnecessary. Anyway, amazing place!

Don't be fooled, it's not just about cans! Though I took a lot of pictures of the artwork on cans, this museum is about the community that grew up around canning, how it saved the town's economy, and the artwork and design behind the product. This museum is one of a collection that you can buy a single ticket for and get entry to the others.

This museum is a surprise! You wouldn't suspect the interesting facts about canning over the years. What is more, there is a second hall dedicated to book printing and publishing history. Do not miss it!

This museum is divided into 2 parts: the first one is related to printing and gives you an overview of the development of different printing techniques and machines. The second one is related to canning, a once flourishing industry in the city of Stavanger that exported goods in 140 countries all over the world. As a bonus, between the 2 museums, there’s also “No 90”, a restored regency style house built in 1836. The ticket costs 140 NOK (about 12€), but you can pay half the price if you already visited the Iron Age Farm and kept the receipt.

This was our second visit, and we just love this street! It has such a great atmosphere — beautifully kept with a real charm to it. The local businesses are so friendly and welcoming. Definitely a must-visit spot if you’re in the area!

The street was very colourful and pretty! We went in the morning around 08.00 and the street was pretty much empty. Came back in the afternoon and it was very busy, but still colourful, lively and pretty!

This beautiful street (called by locals “Fargegata” - the street of colours) is one of the main attractions in Stavanger: the idea to paint the houses with bright colours came to hairdresser Tom Kjørsvik and was fulfilled in collaboration with the artist Craig Flannagan. The project had to be approved by the homeowners and the city council, so it took more than 4 years to be completed. Besides taking beautiful pictures, you can also stop over at the many shops and bars that can be found here.

This entire street is stunning—every corner feels like a work of art. However, it’s quite busy, so I’d recommend going elsewhere if you’re looking for a quiet place to enjoy coffee or a meal.

It’s a shame for Stavanger to host such huge boats directly in the city center. People come to visit the old town but can’t take any picture without a cruise ship as background. Strolling through Stavanger is like Disneyland. Is mass tourism the future for Stavanger ?

We visited Stavanger in June as part of a cruise, and it was a fantastic first taste of Norway. Our day started with an exhilarating RIB ride along the fjord – a little rain came down, but it didn’t dampen the fun or the stunning scenery. Afterwards, we enjoyed a stroll around the charming town, and as the skies cleared, we climbed up to the Valberget Utsiktspunkt tower for wonderful views. We rounded off our visit browsing some delightful gift shops before heading back to the ship. A great introduction to this beautiful country – we can’t wait to come back!

I recently stayed at this hotel and overall had a pleasant experience, though with a few points worth noting. The location is absolutely top notch if you’re looking to enjoy the beach. It’s just a short walk from the shore, which makes it perfect for relaxing mornings, sunset strolls, or simply soaking in the sea view. You can’t ask for a better spot if proximity to the beach is a priority. Breakfast was another highlight. The selection was both good and complete, with enough variety to suit different tastes. From fresh fruit and pastries to hot dishes, everything was well prepared and nicely presented. It definitely gave a strong start to the day. That said, I did feel the price was a bit on the expensive side compared to the size and standard of the room. While the room was clean and comfortable, it wasn’t particularly spacious or luxurious for the rate charged—just my personal point of view. Another minor inconvenience was parking. It wasn’t entirely clear where to park the car upon arrival, which caused a bit of confusion. Clearer directions or signage would definitely improve the first impression. Overall, a solid stay with unbeatable beach access.

I used the spa and massage service here and I was very surprised to receive two massages one with gloves and one with a masseuse who had very long nails which both felt very unpleasant. The massage room doesn’t have spotify premium and it is very wierd to hear advertisements in the middle which brings you out of the zen mode. I have sent them a feedback before putting this review but never received any response. I still believe the spa and services worth the price but these things should be taken care of.

Front desk staff Astrid: give that woman a promotion! Very professional and accommodating from the moment I called and asked about making a reservation up until checkout. One of the stars is for her effort and attitude. About this hotel: it's a little bit of a hype that you perhaps shouldn't fall for. Surely, this probably was one of the best resorts in the area once upon a time, but time has caught up while the exclusive pricing has remained. This hotel could be described as a shell of its former self, which is a pity. I hope someone will invest to bring this establishment back to its glory. Rooms: travelling with pets seldom rewards you with the best rooms (also a pity), and this hotel was no exception: a small standard double, overlooking the parking lot, not very inspiring or memorable. Impractical positioning of power sockets (where am I supposed to plug in the kettle??), no socket at all in the dated bathroom (no chance to blow your haird where there's a mirror) and nightstand only on one side of the bed. What would have been nice though is a broom to take care of all the sand you're bound to bring inside after a windy walk on the beach (especially with the dog!). Ventilation was subpar; it was absolutely necessary to keep the window open. Fridge in room, no coffee maker. Iron & board. Dog bed and trays were provided (no complimentary treats though) and we have since learned that according to Norwegian law, you can't have pets where food is served, so you can only have your pet in your room or outside. Might not fit everyone's needs. Service: personal service was great. Breakfast was plentiful. Restaurant food was average with an annoying thing that starters are presented together with main courses; might get you fooled! Also, the acoustic conditions in the dining hall are terrible: even at half full it's noisy to the degree of uncomfortable (that also goes for breakfast hours). The main waiter did a great job too; very accommodating and service minded. The resort also has a spa which contains one pool and a variety of saunas, plus a relax area. Maybe not what I would consider a spa, but for NOK250 (resident price) you get access for 25 hrs which means that you can linger in the spa even after checkout, if you play your cards right. Location is what gives this place its edge; the roaring Atlantic is just beyond the dunes. About a minutes walk away you'll find a long, wide sand beach. There's also all kinds of surf gear to rent. We thought the nearby airport would be a problem but we were never bothered by it. Final verdict: either completely renovate the place and make it great again or cut prices in half. Perhaps their finest rooms are worth it, but I honestly doubt that.

We only stayed one night. We had a sea view room. The bedding was extremely comfortable. The ride to airport was about 5 mins. The front desk staff in the am and pm were accommodating and nice.

Just a coffee review(the rest is stunning) Better barista training is needed to justify charging a premium for milk based coffees. Boiled to death milk froth and stale espresso combined for a muddy experience.

NB there is a free parking right next to the payment parking! Use this Bout the Spa Not more than ok! Place is warm but that's it....it's really old, many things don't work, there was no towels left, there is water on all floors, it's dirty inn the wardrobe etc

I found this museum a bit boring. Probably I have seen a lot of maritime museums across Europe, and I did not explore something new here. I have visited this museum only because the ticket to canning museum was also valid for this one. It works other way too - by buying ticket in maritime you may go to canning. The exposition is relatively big, there are some interesting things, but, again, nothing special and nothing new in comparison to many maritime museums in other cities.

Entry here is super affordable and you get a coupon for other nearby museums which is very generous. The museum is accessible and disability friendly with elevators that take you to the higher floors. There's a fair bit to look at here with some interesting model ships, trivia, and facts scattered throughout. Definitely worth checking out if you are in Stavanger.

We liked it here! The first part of the museum gives you a good idea of the city maritime history. On the second floor is a beautifully made children area. On the third floor you get a notion about the life and work conditions of the workers there. The ticket price was affordable and gives you access to other museums. The kids get free access to.

This is such a cute place. There's so much to learn here. There's a lush play area for kids to use with built in features like a ship and a wooden shop with lots of play items. The museum is reasonably priced for a family, and allows re-entry into the museum. Very useful for the play area for kids! I would pop here again

Really interested museum. The downstairs exhibition gave a good overview of the history and people of Stravanger. The upstairs consisted of a children's playroom including shop, boat and dress up equipment. The third floor was a mock-up on how the building would have been used with the kitchen, office, living room, etc. Price was really reasonable, as ticket also gives access to 4 other Stravanger museums.

You can comfortably explore everything in about an hour and a half to two hours. The museum is easily accessible from the city center and has a lovely café for a relaxing break. Plus, there are great souvenirs and interactive displays. Highly recommended for anyone interested in Viking history and Norwegian culture!

Lovely bit of history of the Vikings. I could have spent hours and hours in this place just taking every single bit in of what they have of the vikings. It is filled with allsorts of items and skeletons. They have colllected a whole lot, this place is worth coming to visit if ever in the area. There is also a lovely cafe situated in the building if you need to take a break before taken on the reminder of the museum. To make it even more worth while there is a gift shop as your on the way out to take some valuable gifts home to remember this amazing visit.

Fascinating story, painting and bones of Stone Age 8000 year old child. Info was in multiple languages. Resting benches easily available. Food in cafe was great!

The Museum of Archaeology in Stavanger is excellent. The exhibits are well presented and cover a fascinating range of history, from the Vikings to the region’s earlier past. Everything is clear, informative, and easy to follow, and the staff are welcoming. A must-visit if you’re interested in history and archaeology.

This is the gateway to the open air museum Iron Age farm. At the visitor center you can buy tickets, have a snack in the cafe and take a look at some of the artefacts that have been found at the farm. If you are interested in history you might also want to stop by Museum of Archaeology in downtown Stavanger.

Slow service and quite rude “leder “. It not the first but definitely the last time when our company had dinner at the restaurant. The booking was confirmed at 18:45 for 10 person. Some of us showed up later and 4 could not make it due to different reasons. Around 19.15 a waiter came to take our order. We thought our food and drinks were coming but after a while he came back and took out order saying that he just went through the menu. A little later another waiter asked if the rest of the group were coming, we said that we’re still waiting. Food and drinks were good but around 20:00 another “leder” came to us and in very impolite and unprofessional way told us that we are keeping our big table for 6 people not 10. She repeated that 4 times!!!when we asked what do you want us to do she was quite arrogant saying that they could have given our table to other guests. Even though there wasn’t any line and there were many table available. We said that we are still waiting. Even though the restaurant wasn’t fully booked we moved to another table without any assistance from the staff. That was a very disappointing experience!

I had a chance to try Olivia on Tuesday evening. We were a group of 7 and had some nice food. I ate the orange glazed pork that I strongly recommend. Meat was tender and the variety of the side dish was matching with it perfectly. I ate a tiramisu after. That was not bad but I like the traditional cake style tiramisu compared to the ones served in a cup. This was the second. All in all I had positive experience. The place is a bit noisy and compared to a Tuesday it was almost full, so booking is strongly recommended.

good food, especially the panda cotta!!! 🍮 loved it sm it was so sweet & yummy, would've ordered a second one if it wasn't so fattening & sinful 🤣 we had to wait outside for awhile in the windy cold & finally someone came to us but to tell us to wait abit more LOL. so we stood outside for abt another 10minutes before being brought in by someone else. The staff were professional and friendly tho, they spoke very fluent english so it was easy to communicate with them & for them to understand my "no spicy food recommendations please" lolol. good experience overall!

We dined here on a Monday night; we had reservations and we were greeted and seated promptly. Very large place, providing 2 levels of tables for dining. It was a good experience, not a great experience because food was good but not exceptional. For starters we selected Focaccia, Calamari Fritti, and Antipasto All'Italiana; that was plenty to share. My main course, Pizza Pollo Bianco,; I found it a bit dried, perhaps a bit overcooked. For dessert, the Soufffe al Ciocolato; the "soufle" a bit misleading word to use as it is more of a chocolate fondant. I found its consistency a bit dry, not fresh. We found this dining experience to be good, a casual meal with friends in a relaxing atmosphere.

I visited here twice on my own as a young woman with her baby. I sat outside both times, late afternoon. There are heaters and it is fine for September. Food: Both times the food was amazing. I ordered a beef and mushroom pasta and it was delicious. Allergies: allergen menu provided on main menu. Service: The first time the staff were very accommodating. They helped me with my pram and baby up stairs and brought menus outside and let me pay at the table no problem and were quick. The second time (the night after, same time) they wouldn’t let me order at my table or pay at my table outside. I explained I cannot come in because my baby/pram and the stairs but they insisted I had to come in. They watched me struggle to carry my baby and pram up around 10 steep steps. No one offered to help me. Then they watched me go back downstairs on my own again. Luckily a young customer helped me. I came back here because it felt very welcoming and easy going. However, my second visit left me questioning this.

Location and ambience both very good , pizza was just slightly off Taste bud with respect to Indian taste. I prefer PEPPES pizza

Risotto is amazing here and pizza is also great!
