Ski resort
Outdoor Activities
Alpine destination with trails for skiing & snowboarding, plus a cable car & mountaintop cafe.
Slide 1 of 8
One of my favorite destination for walking. There is excellent view of the city and the valley from the hilltop. You can enjoy skiing or simply take the lift to the top and enjoy the breathtaking view. Equipment rental is available on the spot.
Cool place, we went to have picnic on the top of the rock! What an amazing experience!
I called there once and a nice lady greeted me. 5/5 experience.
We loved going up with the cablecar - it is beautiful from the top with a lovely view over the city - and nice spots for photographs. The weather was not very good, but we still loved the experience. At the top there is a very nice restaurant, where we ate a Korean delicacy and had tea - realy a lovely atmosphere. We again took the cable car down the mountain and loved watching so many people skiing and snowboarding! Would recommend this to every visitor of Sakhalin island.
There are few people, so great to snow boarding
Perfect place for day out in any season. Winter ... try skiing/snow boarding and in rest season go on top of hill in gandola and enjoy nice view and coffee
Great ski resort very close to the center of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk town. However, English speaking services, just like in the rest of Russia, are lacking. There is a Russian cafe on the top station selling typical Russian snacks and drinks (no English menu or English-speaking staff).
Nice place ,hope can comeback again next year

Beautiful museum with very well organized sections. The collection of ancient flora and fauna is particularly impressive. Interesting sections devoted to the aboriginal population. There is also a small arboretum with local tree species on site.
A great little museum.. some signs are in English so being your gooe translator with you.
Liked the park around the museum very much!
Karafuto is now museum in Sakhalin Regional Museum, Sakhalin Oblast, Russia
Iam from Indonesia, this is perfect place we know about culture in Sakhalin.
Must see to get usefull information about Sakhalin. Beautiful garden with lots of different flowers and trees
Active and friendly museum in one of the only Japanese buildings left in the city. The free outdoor park has interesting exhibits and is beautifully cultivated. The museum is well appointed for a small City and they have several rotating exhibits to match the seasons. They also hold events like tea times and photo contests, check out their website to see what is coming up
What a gem just couple of steps from my office in Yuzno Sahalinsk! It was 3rd of November and there was the special event that I, using my "perfect" Russian, deciphered as "night of art". Aside the special events that were happening there just that night, it is amazing how much different topics they fitted in relatively small place. History of island Sahalin from early ages to now, nature, culture, trade, people.. It would be shame to stay in Sahalin and not visit this place.

Park
Nature & Parks
Relaxed neighborhood recreation destination, with a scenic lake, walking trails & picnic spots.
Slide 1 of 8
Fantastic place to take a walk, enjoy nature or engage in all sorts of sports activities. The park is quite large, with several tracks for walking, jogging, skateboarding, biking. There is an amusement park, small lake you can rent a boat, even a train is running around it. You can cross the fast running mountain creek through half a dozen bridges. My favorite is walking around in the pine forest.
The park is really good, if you come to Sakhalin in summer i recommend you to visit it! It might look a little crowded but as far as I understood it doesn't happen all the time
Brilliant place, personal favourite!
Biggest park in Yuzhno. Popular with young families as various attractions and quite nice for walkabouts. Significant effort to upgrade facilities and appearance is ongoing.
This is a beautiful park with sporting facilities, waterways, cafes and an entire children's section. Highly recommend visiting if you are in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk anytime but winter.
Like any other park in the world. Nice to go for a walk there. Clean Toilets are free of charge! !! (At the main entrance on the left)
Great place to bring your kids and play a while or just have a nice stroll. Lots of activities and play areas especially in the summer.
Peaceful and fresh air. Great for strolling

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Expansive, tree-shaded zoo featuring a petting zoo for kids, feeding times & conservation exhibits.
Slide 1 of 8
Little zoo but 3 years old daughter love it.
I could only feel pity for the animals in their ridicilous small cages. Shame to mankind for this kind of attraction.
Nice small zoo with Sakhalin and some exotic animals.
(Translated by Google) The zoo was born in 1993 as a municipal project on the initiative of Mayor I.P. Farkhutdinov. Initially, the animals huddled on the territory of the city park, and by 1995 only 47 individuals of 21 species lived here. The turning point was 2000: after the transfer to regional ownership and renaming into a "zoobotanical park", a large-scale reconstruction began. Enclosures for deer, bears, an artificial lake for birds appeared, and later - an exposition "Primates" and spacious complexes for kangaroos and otters. Today it is the largest zoo in the Far East, preserving rare species in the extreme climate of the island. Unique inhabitants: - Red Book predators: Amur tigers, Far Eastern leopards and griffon vultures - participants in international rescue programs. - Exotic newcomers: capybaras, Bennett's kangaroos, banana-eating geckos and tomato frogs, brought in 2021-2022. - Local endemics: fish owl and Steller's sea eagle, whose populations in the wild are declining. - Botanical rarities: the territory is home to the pointed yew (up to 1000 years old!) and the densely-flowered pine from the Red Book of Russia. - 2021: the collection was replenished with 193 individuals, including Altai marals and crested porcupines. - 2022: a record offspring - 103 cubs (coatis, deer, lemurs) and the opening of an otter enclosure with a cascading waterfall. ⏰ Opening hours: - Summer (until October): 10:00–20:30 (ticket office until 19:30). - Winter: 10:00–18:00. The Primates and Aquariums exhibits are closed for sanitary days on Mondays and Wednesdays. - 💰 Prices: - Children (3–16 years): 250 ₽. - Adults: 350 ₽. - Seniors: 200 ₽. *You can purchase season tickets and online tickets with 10% cashback using the Mir card. Tips for visitors: 1. Take a golf cart (available since 2022) — the elevation difference on the territory is 60 meters, and the walking route is tiring. 2. Look for new enclosures — a raccoon house with an artificial stream and "towers" for martens, where the animals play on vertical structures. 3. Buy a souvenir with symbols in the shop (magnets, animal figurines) or order food insects through the park's online store. This is a place where the history of the struggle with harsh nature (snow up to 1.5 m!) turned into a history of triumph: 1300+ animals on 8 hectares, including those saved from extinction. I left with the thought that the local employees are real devotees: their work allows you to hear the roar of the Amur tiger among the Sakhalin hills and see Bennett's kangaroos frolicking under the snowflakes. P.S. Don't miss the otter feeding show at 15:00 — their play with water in the new enclosure is mesmerizing!

Clean, surrounded by flower beds. There is a cafe and souvenirs (although it is open until 18:00). The zoo is located near the park, so after it you can calmly stroll among the trees along the alley. If you like Chekhov's work and in town then must visit this place! Speaking Russian does help though..
(Translated by Google) We visited the museum with our teachers as part of regional New Year's events. How interesting it was for the children and me on the excursion about the history of visiting Fr. (Translated by Google) Chekov Memorial Hall, as we all know, the great Russian writer came to Sakhalin Island (Sakhalin) for field research and wrote "Sakhalin Travel Notes". My first impression of this was through Chekov's work. The book described it as a real hell, with prisoners exiled here and never able to return to the mainland. It was even more desperate than the Ningupa in my Qing Dynasty. The museum introduced the life on the island at that time through his works, and also reflected the social conditions on the island at that time. It can be regarded as reading Chekhov's book again.

(Translated by Google) We have been going to performances for about 12 years. The kids like it. A magnificent production of Romeo and Juliet. I didn’t think it was possible to stage an “adult” play like this with the help of puppets. Thanks to the actors! Thanks to all the theater staff! (Translated by Google) On September 7, I went to the puppet theater with my two-year-old; it was my first time. What I didn't like was, firstly, I didn't think I'd have to pay for an adult ticket. An adult is basically accompanying the child who will be watching the fairy tale. An adult doesn't really need the fairy tale, so why bother with a ticket? Secondly, the story wasn't interesting; she only talked about bowing for five minutes, when they could have just said hello. I also didn't like that we couldn't just walk around or talk; it felt like we'd ended up in a high-security prison rather than a theater. Not to mention the ticket inspector, who kept walking around with a disgruntled expression, enforcing discipline. Overall, we left disappointed. (Original) 7.09.
(Translated by Google) I am very impressed by the professionalism of the actors! I brought my son to meet Santa Claus, but he himself depended on the amazing production and performance of the actors. I admit I was impressed and at the age of 40 I wanted to take acting classes and try myself on stage. Moreover, at school he took first place for individual performance. I was also struck by the decor, or rather the thoughtful design and interior. There are a lot of good photo zones.

(Translated by Google) The temple looks very impressive. The monumental staircase leading to the main entrance looks especially harmonious with this building. The temple is quite high, over 70 m. The sky-blue domes and the exterior decoration entirely made of marble are mesmerizing. This building truly deserves the status of a visiting card of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Original)

(Translated by Google) It's a beautiful temple, I don't argue. We went there with our child and wanted to drink some water. We asked about cups, and a rude woman told us that they were on the shelf and supposedly clean (not disposable). We went up to one of the glasses and looked at it, it had lipstick on it, and this woman told us to take the one next to it, it didn't have lipstick on it. It was an unpleasant situation. Anyone could drink there even without lipstick, they could have rinsed it out. The tone was certainly rude.
(Translated by Google) Unexpected for me. Beautiful, filled with grace, a lot of people.
(Translated by Google) It is really very pretty, inside and out. When the sun hits the dome it shines, it is impressive. Without a doubt the best in the city.
(Translated by Google) What a pity that the beauty of the Temple does not at all justify its direct purpose. I was amazed by the callousness of the servant, to such an extent that upon leaving the Temple, I felt nothing but emptiness, confusion and resentment! I came on the anniversary of my uncle’s death to light a candle for his repose and order a prayer service for his repose. I was denied the prayer service because my uncle was not baptized. They hurried, they said that they were closing, but there was still a little more than 20 minutes left before closing. When I asked why already, since there was still time, they told me that they were meeting in advance... this was the first bewilderment, that is, if a person works all day and rushes to church to pray, they won’t let him in, because the ministers want to go home , so understand this?! Okay, I swallowed it and went to light the candles, I couldn’t pray because the lights were already turned off (let me remind you there were still 20 minutes before closing), I turned around and wanted to go and barely light candles for my family for their health, but what was my shock, when I saw that all the candles were being blown out by the servants and it turned out that I had nowhere to put them... I was at a loss, how could this be? They just sent me away with my callous attitude. So I left the Temple with these candles, in tears and resentment for this place. Is this really what our church is like now?!

(Translated by Google) An excellent weekend route, especially if you are lucky with the weather - the view is stunning. You can see the Sea of Okhotsk, Tunaichu, Aniva Bay. At the top are the remains of a small shrine to the sun goddess Amaterasu, the ancestor of all Japanese emperors. The route is mostly well marked, but it is easy to get lost in the undergrowth in the saddle near the top, especially in the fog. Along the way there are many berries and mushrooms in season. The route takes about 5 hours at a relaxed pace and rest at the top. On weekends there are usually quite a lot of fellow travelers.

(Translated by Google) The most popular mountain route in the vicinity of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Equipped with ropes, signs, marked and trampled by thousands of tourists. To get to the beginning of the route, you need to walk/drive 5.5 km along the dirt road from the Old Friend cafe (the intersection of Detskaya St. and Venskaya St.). If you go by car, it is advisable to have a ground clearance of 18 cm or more - there are streams and potholes along the road. At the foot there is a platform where you can leave your car. From this place the hike to the top and back will take 4-5 hours at a leisurely pace. The most difficult section is the first third of the route up to Mount Wart. There is quite a steep climb, but the rope railings help. From Borodavka you go out onto the ridge and the remaining 2/3 of the route is very easy to walk.

Since I was flying out the next day, I had to get to the top anyway. Most of all, the movement was hampered by dwarf cedar. An extremely nasty plant. All the paths were covered with them. I still made it to the top.

Rememberance of the fallen in previos wars and conflicts of Russia since 1905. A modern, interactive exhibition where you can really have a taste of the brutality and immorality of war. Meanwhile silently remember and bow your head to all the lifes lost. Besides it provides a lot of details of past military technology, weapons, everyday life in the military. Highly recommended!

(Translated by Google) “Many people complain about our country, the state, the authorities within, and few people think that very often the problems are within ourselves.” The memorial complex was built, to put it mildly, majestically, to put it mildly, using all the standards, architectural achievements, innovations in electronics and engineering in completely different fields, and most importantly, it is a magnificent structure from a design point of view. Each floor is monolithic, you can feel the power and at the same time feel the subtlety and elegance. Moving along the floors in a group of tourists, you find yourself in different locations telling about different times, which in turn are made so-so, but I have never seen anything better. And this is not Disney Land, but there is already enough interactivity. I’m only talking about what could have been done better than mannequins, in the hall with the feat of Russian soldiers in the fight against the Japanese. And perhaps this is the only drawback, if you do not take into account that this hall could be extended indefinitely. Still, art galleries, exhibition cars, and perhaps everything, are done at the highest possible level and captivate with their idea and content. Otherwise, what I didn’t like applies to the people who visited these places, it’s truly sad. It’s a pity to see this place shabby, spit-stained and “humiliated” in 10 years.
