(Translated by Google) They are one of the most enchanting places you can even imagine. In a fairytale landscape context, framed by the Dolomites and the Carnic Alps, in the heart of the Sappada valley, there are ancient villages where you can still breathe the scent of the wood used to build the typical local houses way back in 1600 and the atmosphere is that which dates back hundreds of years ago. In winter with its white blanket and in summer with the bright colors of the balcony flowers, Sappada Vecchia contains one of the most beautiful architectural and landscape treasures in Italy and in the world.

Beautiful and breathtaking location, the views are amazing. There are plenty of observation points and picnic tables outside, while inside there are both a bar and a dining area. Staff is friendly and helpful, the food is hearty and good, drinks are cold, spirits are homemade. The only small downside is the only restroom, which is understandable given the location. Definitely worth the hour long hike.
I visited yesterday while coming down from the via ferrata Portogruaro / via di Guerra (a beautiful and well-secured route, by the way). Even though the rifugio was officially closed for the season and the kitchen wasn't operating, the kind lady there still made me a delicious sandwich. She absolutely didn't have to, but she saw I was hungry and went out of her way to help. The hosts are incredibly warm and welcoming. The rifugio itself is wonderfully located and definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended — thank you, and see you again!
Perfect Spot for Hikers and Food Lovers! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ After a long hike, we stopped by this mountain lodge and it was absolutely worth it! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a real local charm. The food was delicious and homemade, perfect for recharging after exploring the trails. But the real highlight was the local herbal rakija — smooth, flavorful, and infused with mountain herbs. It’s a must-try if you want an authentic taste of the region! The staff were friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. If you’re hiking nearby and want great local food, amazing drinks, and a cozy vibe, definitely stop here!
Fantastic one hour trip from parking. Great views. You can it and drink there. Just great
Great rifugio, excellent food, managed by very nice people.
(Translated by Google) This refuge enjoys an exceptional location above Sappada. It's reached by a narrow and somewhat damaged road that leads to the parking lot, followed by an easy, if somewhat steep, hike of about an hour and a half. We only had desserts and hot drinks. They were good and reasonably priced. The service was friendly. The only downsides were the POS terminal that didn't work and the bathroom facilities that were decidedly inadequate for the size of the facility. Abbiamo preso solo dolci e bevande calde. Buoni e a prezzi ragionevoli. Servizio cordiale.

Very Nice! And for all ages! Great!
(Translated by Google) If you are on holiday in the surrounding area and want to adventure with ropes and hooks in the mountain trees, you cannot miss trying this splendid park. Park which is divided into two routes, one for children (under 1.50 m and max 8 years) and the other for adults of all ages. Very good for children who want to learn and become familiar with hooks and ropes. For adults the route is very beautiful with significant heights... cableway, Tibetan bridge, etc. etc. You pay for an hour and you can do the route multiple times The place is on the other side of the stream, therefore it can only be reached on foot, covering approximately 500 meters once you have parked the car in the caravan camping area.

(Translated by Google) Between the 60s and 70s of the twentieth century, the founding master's concern to stem the ongoing dispersion of Sappada's cultural heritage committed him to collecting a certain quantity of objects such as agricultural, household and everyday tools, to the point of establishing an ethnographic museum, which was set up in 1972 and developed in the following years in a building in the Bach hamlet. Upon his death in 1975 the ethnographic museum was named after him and from then until today the collections have been enriched; in 1999 a geological and paleontological section was set up in which the geological history of the valley is described. In 2009 the collections were expanded and moved to the new headquarters in Cima Sappada. In the new conception, the Ethnographic Museum offers a complete itinerary from the natural environment to the identity of the community that settled and integrated there. The visitor is introduced to the knowledge of the geology, flora and fauna of the Sappada basin, to conceive the organic unity of the environment which hosted the first inhabitants in the Middle Ages. In the display cases you can observe samples of local rocks, some fossils, a diorama with the reconstruction of a natural habitat and a sampling of avifauna. On the walls and in the columns the main botanical species are depicted, used for cooking and popular medicine, and the tree species present in the valley, with the corresponding names in Sappada and Italian. A historical section delves into the origins and history of the Sappada people up to the present day. The interesting life testimonies show, in the ethnographic collections, how the environment has shaped their habits: the relative isolation of the past, the particular climatic conditions, together with the peculiar identity of the community as a German-speaking linguistic island, favored a frugal and almost self-sufficient life system, favoring the development of the so-called 'wood culture'. The architectural typologies of the valley, to which a special section is dedicated, are eloquent witnesses of this. Vintage images portray the population of Sappada and in some shop windows there are items of work and party clothing for men and women on display. In the central part of the museum we delve into Sappada domestic life: there are collected objects of daily use from rooms such as the kitchen, the corridor, the dining room and the bedroom, which have not been reconstructed because it is possible to visit them in the House Museum of Rural Civilization, the second museum in Sappada. The main room houses the tools of the agro-forestry-pastoral and artisanal activities of the simple but harsh existence led by the people of Sappada: from the woodcutter we move on to the section dedicated to snow, from the shepherd to the stable, to the barn and agricultural work, from transport to the artisanal activities of the wheelwright, blacksmith, carpenter and finally to the shoemaker, tailor and weaver. At the center of the museum, as it was at the center of Sappada life, is the illustrative section of popular religiosity in the most significant moments of the liturgical year. The itinerary concludes with the masks of the Sappada Carnival (vosenòcht), a tradition still alive in Sappada, among which the austere figure of the Rollate stands out.

Great view and amazing refuge. This place offers a good bar choices and even a good pool of launch options. Highly suggested!
Food was great but we had to wait a while because the waitress was on her own!
Friendly place with good food.
Super long waiting
(Translated by Google) The refuge can be reached on foot via marked paths or with the chairlift that takes you to the top of Sappada, cost €10.00 return. Enchanting panorama, enjoyable from the deckchairs provided by the refuge for a relaxing break Mostly frozen foods, the only exception being the good tagliatelle with venison ragout. The dessert with pears and walnuts is also appreciable. Personale educato

(Translated by Google) Returning from a climbing route on Creta Forata we passed by the Siera refuge. The route was longer than expected and we were left without water in our backpacks, the refuge was closed at 5pm (with the closure of the cable car). Having still had an hour of descent, thirsty we searched in vain to see if there was a fountain. In the back of the kiosk there were some half-litre plastic bottles, we approached and a voice coming from a fixed camera inside the kiosk ordered us: "DON'T TOUCH!". We asked if we could take a small bottle, we were told by the camera (connected to a mobile phone I assume) that it was 2 euros for the half bottle to leave on the counter. We only had a 10 dollar note. Moral of the story we ran out of water. I would recommend changing the name "refuge" to "restaurant for tourists". A shelter should be designated to house and provide relief to hikers and climbers. Refuge, the word itself says it. Leaving two people without water is unspeakable.

(Translated by Google) Small, welcoming and a spiritual point of support for believers, probably to face a challenging climb up the mountain, it is part of the overview of the splendid small square of Cima Sappada. Even today the church of Sant'Osvaldo is of modest size, although it was modified in the 17th century. It was later replaced by the current one in 1732. The small church was then restored and enlarged in 1773 and became a mansion in 1803. Further renovations were carried out in 1819, 1906 and 1954. In 1961 it was erected as a parish church, but subsequently lost its autonomy and returned to being a branch of the church of Sappada. In July 2018, following the suppression of the forania of Gorto, to which the small church was attached, the latter passed to the newly established forania of the Mountain.
