One of the largest shrines in the area so you're bound to visit at some point, either for the first shrine visit of the new year or outside of peak visiting hours. I celebrated the New Year of 2023 here and had to visit again at the end of 2024 while it was still less crowded. Definitely recommend a visit!
WoW! Amazing Shinto Shrine. Long approach walk and many Tori gates. Well kept and popular with many residents. Well worth a visit.
I visit every time I stay nearby, sometimes multiple times on a trip. It is a lovely temple with a park nearby. There are constantly things going on here and it's always worthwhile stopping in. On this trip over golden week, there was a sword demonstration, a drum concert, children's day, and some other event that I couldn't figure out. During festivals, food and games are available. You can get some water and use the toilets here at other times. There is Japanese archery here as well and you can see it on the right on the temple. I have never been inside of the archery house, so I just rewatch from outside. Not sure if they welcome people inside. I love early morning here as it is truly beautiful. It might be worth a special trip to some, but I don't think it is so special that it would be worth a medium to long journey (>30 minutes). Make sure you visit the nearby park, there is radio exercises every morning at 0630. From the temple, leave via the exit to right, cross over the river and walk about 15 minutes to the right. It takes place in one of the playgrounds. You will see people starting to gather around 0620 or so.
I visited it to return a talisman for safe baby delivery for a friend of mine there. The talisman worked.
A pretty nice shrine to visit - first came here during a long run. Lots of families with kids for their 3,5,7 and baby shrine visit. In the annex you can get some tea and warabi mochi and browse through some products/merchandise for sale.
An incredible space in the middle of a neighborhood. It’s a massive complex with big tori gates and a long walkway. The shrine itself is magical and tranquil. It is adjoins the Wadabori Park complex along the Zenpuku-ji River. It’s a quiet retreat. It gets busy during New Years as well as cherry blossom season. Enjoy!
Well maintained and quite serene as usual. If you're into shrines you know what to expect. Very quiet during weekdays and adjacent to a very pretty (and quite large) park.
On a summer evening, during twilight, you can experience a profound sense of serenity, reminiscent of Studio Ghibli's "Spirited Away." On a related note, the renowned animation director, Hayao Miyazaki, spent much of his youth in this vicinity. My daughters love SevenTeen ice, which you can buy at the vending machine near the main shrine.

Zip line, big slide, a lot of green spaces to lay down and just relax.
A lovely, quiet and relaxing park stretching along the stream. I had the opportunity to see the last of the cherry blossoms before sakura season was fully over and it was a beautiful sight to see pink petals adorning each side of the stream path. The pond in the middle of the park was nice for viewing of fish, tortoises and a variety of local birds. Mostly people seem to be relaxing and enjoying the greenery with a few sitting down to sketch the patches of yellow irises dotted along the pond.
Omiya Hachiman Shrine is a must see. Almost 1000 years of history stretching back into the mists of mythology. Mothers and grandmas bring new borns to pray for health and good lives, and leave their wishes on wooden emma tablets.
Cool park with a nice pond and river etc. Looks pretty family oriented. Interesting looking catch-your-own meal restaurant on the premises too.
We cycled there on a tour. The cherry blossoms were gone, but the natural wooded areas were a lovely respite
Surprisingly good and not busy at all. You can walk a long stretch beside the river. There's a bit of food and drinks stalls as well. Only drawback is some currently ongoing construction and quite a walk from the station
Great park even at night.
We live near this park and LOVE it for a walk or run in the shade. There is a restaurant near the pond and the sports field with a really nicw vibe and surprisingly delicious food

Beautiful shrine worth a visit. Currently they offer paper embroided goshuin, one of them even in collaboration with JR central.
Asagaya Shinmeigu Shrine is a calm, beautiful spot just minutes from JR Asagaya Station. Surrounded by greenery, it offers a peaceful escape from the city noise. The shrine is well-kept and rich in tradition, often hosting local festivals and rituals. A perfect place to reflect, relax, or connect with Japanese culture in a quiet neighborhood setting.
It was a very calming and tranquil experience visiting during a raining Wednesday. The rain brings another layer of quiet peace in this western suburb in Tokyo. They have beautiful charms and seal stamps available as well. As it is currently hydrangea season (June) they have beautiful limited-edition hydrangea charms (御守)and seal stamps (御朱印)
Very impressive Shinto Shrine. Large grounds and many smaller shrines here as well. Shrine office here and open in the morning.
Large and pretty temple with unique embroidered omamori. Had a really nice stroll from the train station to the temple grounds
Asagaya Shinmeigu Shrine is a peaceful spot in Tokyo! I visited in April and luckily saw a few cherry blossoms. The highlight for me was their unique embroidered Goshuin and bracelets - they're very beautiful and worth collecting. If you want a calm place to visit with some special keepsakes, this shrine is a great choice. Highly recommend it!
A nice peaceful shrine with a few prominent sakura trees. They have unique embroidered bracelets and goshuin, unfortunately they are sold out (2 Apr 2024). But they do have the standard items on sale. They do have a list of activities indicated at the door. Interestingly, while the shrine is dedicated to Amaterasu, they carry moon design items.
A Japanese friend sent me a photo of Asaga Shrine in Tokyo. Unlike Islam, Japanese chapels are attractive because they are integrated with nature. It has a unique fragrance. It is a very sacred atmosphere.

It's smaller than Inokashira Park, but it's a park where locals take walks. Thirty years ago, children used to catch crayfish, but now no one does that. The cherry blossoms are more beautiful at Shimoike Pond.
Absolutely, relaxing, beautifully kept park. Beautiful Sakura adorn the landscape in the Spring.
A lovely park nestled in Zenpukuji neighbourhood, Suginami city. Beyond playground and beautiful lake, this park also offers jogging track and boat rides. There are various events held in this park, from painting exhibitions, wildlife photography, to free-of-charge children’s activity. Can be easily accessed with bus ride from Ogikubo/Kichijoji station.
One of the hidden gems of Western Tokyo. A perfect place for an afternoon stroll before dinner in Nishi-Ogikubo. Also an annual outdoor art festival called “trolls in the park.”
I enjoy taken a walk. I noticed many people taken photos of small birds at the small lake. There is also playground for the kids. I took photos of the Sakura
The good thing about this park is that the trees with autumn leaves are low. So you can take beautiful pictures of autumn leaves with your mobile phone.
Beautiful and peaceful place. Good place for a run or just a calm moment enjoying bird's songs and nature
Large park in a quiet residential area excellent for a stroll and a boating lake.

A respectful big shrine gate is remarkable in such a calm residential area (just by Oume street).
Largest of the local shrines. I decided to do my first shrine visit (初詣) here, and it is quite crowded around 13:00 on New Year's day. They're doing the crowd control thing with batches of people, like what I used to see when I did a couple of midnight visits at the big shrine of the Meiji Tenno (明治神宮). I think I've been here about 30 minutes, and now I'm about 2/3 of the way to the inner compound. I visited at least once in the last few years and remember having a very nice okonomiyaki as I left. Expecting to have another in a while. Someone already like the review, but I feel like I have to add an appendix. Didn't finish until about 1340, and the okonomiyaki didn't look as good as last time, so I didn't even try it this time. Soba type is different? Or maybe eggs have become too expensive?
Very calming atmosphere and well maintained grounds.
Local shrine with a real Shinto shrine feeling.
Awesome place to visit.
(Translated by Google) It's quite large and you have to walk quite a bit within the grounds. Although it's quite far from the station, it would take a lot of money to be this large in this location. There are parking lots near the north and south torii gates. Unless you live nearby, it's best to come by car. It may be because of the time of year, but there are a lot of insects. There were quite a lot of ball beetles on the ground. There were also a lot of crows and their cries were loud, so I think it's not for everyone.

The goshuin is written (Original) 思っていたよりも境内は広く立派は神社です。 鳥居が多く、何処が本物の参道?と思ってしまいました。 楼門は見応えあります。 御朱印は書置きです
(Translated by Google) I visited Igusa Hachiman Shrine. It's about a 10-minute bus ride from JR Ogikubo Station or Nishi-Ogikubo Station. Although it's in the city center, it's located in a residential area, making it very quiet. The large torii gate on the east approach, the tower gate, and the large lantern on the north approach are all large and impressive. The shrine also boasts a site area of approximately 33,000 square meters, and the approach is long and lined with trees. This is a historic Hachiman Shrine, where figures such as Minamoto no Yoritomo and Ota Dokan have long visited to pray for victory in battle. The worship hall is just as impressive as the site itself.

I would say it is the best park for autumn leaves at night where you can take some very good photos with mirror effect and reflection of light.
I came to this park because it looked really nice, and it did have a bit of a crowd, but nothing overwhelming. Right now, the leaves are absolutely beautiful, and I would highly recommend visiting during this season. The colors were a mix of yellows, greens, reds, and some oranges, and it made the whole area feel really peaceful and lovely. There’s no cost to enter and no wait—you can just walk right in. The park itself is on the smaller side, but there are several other parks in the area as well if you want to explore more. This one, though, is a great little spot to relax and enjoy the autumn scenery. It’s easy to get to, and while there are more people around right now because it’s autumn, it still feels calm enough to just stroll through and enjoy. I definitely recommend stopping by if you’re nearby.
It was a surprise to find such a beautiful park in the middle of Ogikubo, with an elegant entrance with high trees on the sides and the Japanese setting of the pond and the tea house. I've heard it is impressive during autumn.
Otaguro Park, just a short distance from central Tokyo, offers a serene autumn escape, with a quiet atmosphere and a graceful row of pine trees lining the entrance.
We went there in December 2023, it is nestled in a residential area, not a big park but still looks amazing. You will see rows of ginkgo trees when you step in the gate. Scenic autumn foliage when you walk further in. It's quiet and you can get the Zen feeling while taking the walk. It's a place worth the trip.
Beautiful little park. It is peaceful and serene. There is a little gazebo near the pond where it is nice to sit, relax and read a book. There is also a small museum, rest spots, plenty of benches, and washrooms. Good for a walk around if you’re in the area~
Free entrance! Very peaceful place and comfortable. This place is known for fall season but spring season is beautiful as well. You can also enjoy the late -blooming Yae cherry blossom here! Then in Autumn - maple leave color changes -light up events are just amazing like a lil Kyoto level!!!
6/29/2025 It’s a nice park with the historical residence inside the park. No admission fee needed to this park. Recommended to take pictures at the path of the entrance. There’s a pond in the park and you can feed the koi. Koi food is ¥100/bag and only 10 packs in the morning and in the afternoon each. Bathrooms are available inside the park. There’s a reception so you can ask them for brochures and guidance. It’s a very chill, comfortable park to be with lots of shade. Maybe staying here for 30 minutes would be enough, 1 hour max. The park itself is not that big to walk around. Only the front entrance is available. The back entrance always seems to be closed.

You will need to take a bus from the station or you are in for a long long walk, BUT well worth it. Japan always has so many of the usual tourist track events etc that are all worth finding out about and visiting, even if just to get away from the hyper tourist crowds. This gem features a history of anime and manga across 2 floors. Obviously, it is impossible to cover every genre and style, so it focuses on well known and loved anime and manga. They have free portable translation guides devices and some interactive elements and lots of photo ops. Well, well worth it.
Much better than the other nearby museum. Free admission. Friendly and helpful staff. Pictures allowed almost everywhere. Some English translation provided. English audio guide. Lots of hand on activities in addition to the character models and animation history. There was a place to do voice overs and an entire room dedicated to trying tracing and computer animation. Three stamps were available near the elevator on the third floor.
What an absolute honor to be able to visit this anime museum. The museum itself is so worth it that I would have paid to enter. Walking around reading about the history of anime was a great experience. There are many pieces that anime lovers would notice. They even have intractable areas that I recommend visiting. An easily recommended place to visit.
I had a wonderful time at the Suginami Animation Musuem today! It’s on the third floor of the building. You walk in towards the elevator which is on the left and go up! I’ve been so bummed with the weather lately… so much rain… but the staff were wonderful and extremely accommodating and kind. They brightened my day! The accessibility of the venue inside is also great. They had multi-language audio guide devices (English, Chinese, Korean, etc.) that were so informative and helpful. This audio device is pictured in my first photo below (yellow lanyard with the black pen-like device and green mat). You tap the pen on the mat at the number of the exhibit you were looking at and it would give you all sorts of good information and explanations about what you were seeing! Very cool. The hands on opportunities were another really important part of the experience too! You could make your own voice over dub as well as your own light box tracing or animation! It was extremely clean inside as well! The presentation of the information as well as the overall atmosphere was great. For a free museum, very impressive. Suginami ward information pamphlets, museum stamps and event posters were also available. Don’t miss the Namisuke (Suginami mascot) merchandise either… so cute!
Very educational without being draggy, super fun with a lot of interactive exhibits. Must visit for all animation fans. You can try your hand at voice acting, tracing, creating your own animation. And once you’re tired, pick an animation DVD and watch it in the library. 10/10 must visit. Best of all, it’s free of charge.
It’s very small, probably wouldn’t have gone if not for the yuru camp exhibition. But that was nice, and the anime production drawings were very interesting to look at (but you can’t take photos of them)
Nice little exhibition if you’re in the area. Lot’s of activities aimed at little kids.
A nice little free museum and library on Japanese animation and the animators themselves. I highly recommend visiting them. Manhole cards are distributed on the 3rd floor.

Heck yes, Suginami! I've seen a bunch of stuff here. At first I got pretty lost trying to find the large hall and ran around a bunch in the lower floors (smaller halls are down here). Luckily the staff and people were super nice and directed me to the upper floors where the large hall resides. If you enter the main (?) doors and pull a u-turn to your left you'll see a big staircase, so walk up that thing and you're pretty much there. Once inside the large hall check out the fun seats along the sides of the venue! I like sitting in these in the upper level, but it sounds great pretty much anywhere. BONUS: giant Christmas tree!
Many classical music fans are visiting here, it’s not so large but very nice place
Small and quaint but perfect for piano 🎹/oboe recital. A few blocks from the metro and JR line
Very flashy building with about 1,100 seats in the main concert hall upstairs. Various other things including a large coffee shop on the ground floor and downstairs. There is Wi-Fi, but maybe only for the staff. I may have been here some years ago, and if so my vague memories of the acoustics were good.
Huge hall well decorated with good sit
Medium size concert hall. The main hall is the biggest and it can probably accommodate about 300 people. They have studio in the basement for rent. The acoustic is ok, but don't expect professional grade equipment as this is a government owned public facility.
Very nice music hall few minutes away from Ohikubo Station. The hall often hosts opera performances of a discrete level.
I performed here a long time ago, but the hall is renovated since then. Still sounds great.

Hidden gem park behind Higashi Koenji station. Best to see Autumn leaves and cherry blossoms. Lot of benches to relax.
Health and safety gone berserk! What should be a nice relaxing park good for a stroll is a minefield of plastic cones and laminated warning signs! Not to mention the trees literally wrapped in plastic to stop nature happening. Nothing relaxing about it at all as a result, feels like you’re in a maximum security nanny state play-school😭
Very relaxing wide, green space. Happy to see the watery landscape among the green trees, I bet it will be very beautiful in autumn's yellow leaves
Beautiful, underrated park. Lovely autumn foliage and a pond with fish and duck. Hardly any tourists. Quiet and serene. Highly recommend.
10/24/2024 There’re plenty of benches to sit down and is a Mexican food stand nearby. It’s a nice park for a stroll but it’s not a round-shaped park so not best for running. There’s a small pond with some birds and koi fish and an artificial waterfall in front of the main entrance by the main street.
This is hidden gems, just randomly searching near park while I was cycling. So beautiful. Nice to see kids are playing in the school yard beside the park. A nice grandpa is greeting me when I was taking picture of flowers.
Great relaxing park and not too much small.you can see the beautiful autumn colouring trees and play ground.
A great place to breathe and take a walk in Nature surrounding. Not too big, just the right size👍 great to bring children and pets along with you. I always buy coffee in the nearby convenience store and drink it in this park🙏

⛩️Akasaka Hikawa Shrine 赤坂氷川神社 🇯🇵 📍: Akasaka, Tokyo I stumbled upon this incredible shrine while walking around the Akasaka/Roppongi area. It instantly felt like traveling back to the Edo period! It’s one of the Ten Tōkyō Shrines, known for its power in matchmaking and protection from misfortune. 🌸 The current main structure was commissioned in 1729 by Shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune. It has miraculously survived major catastrophes, including the Great Kanto Earthquake and the Tokyo Air Raids of 1945, preserving its original structure to this day. Planning a Tokyo trip? Great beautiful place to visit and pray for good health! From the website; Akasaka Hikawa Shrine has been in existence for over 1,000 years and is a place of strong faith for protection from misfortune and for finding love. The main shrine, built by Tokugawa Yoshimune, has survived numerous earthquakes and war damage and remains in its original form to this day. Within the lush grounds, there are torii gates, lion-dog statues, and lanterns engraved with the Edo era names, and the shrine is a rare sight in Tokyo that still retains many scenes from the Edo period.
Wonderful shrine off the beaten path in Akasaka/Roppongi. An oasis in Tokyo with a nice playground for kids. Be sure to bring mosquito spray
Quiet in the middle of the city shrine. I came at the opening time which was very quiet on Sunday and I appreciated the fact that I was salone and I was able to see everything without having to deal with other people. Just a beautiful quiet shrine within the city, which was a perfect way to spend a Sunday.
This Shinto Shrine is located in one of the most posh areas, Akasaka, which is not very far from Roppongi of the Minato Ward. This Shrine has a lot of trees that it feels so close to nature and is being blesses by nature. The topping on the cake was when they played a chime music when it turned 5pm. This shrine also displays 3 huge chariots for the Gods. Absolutely mindblowing designs!! Please give this shrine a visit, if anyone feels like going to a shrine in Akasaka.
This is a Shinto Shrine where the primary spiritual guardian of Akasaka is enshrined. The guardian protects against misfortune, gives peace and prosperity. People also prayed for good match. During our visit, there's a couple being blessed for their marriage. What a nice surprise to witness the ceremony.

Need a day to decompress in Tokyo? This paradise is a short walk from Koenji Station. Imagine a park surrounded by trees - suddenly appearing in the middle of a residential area. • There is a pond in the middle of the park with carp & ducks swimming. It was adorable to see three ducks swimming in a line on the surface of the pond…. • The leaves of the trees reflecting on the water's surface were also picturesque. • Kids were playing ball in the park with their coach – not a parent in sight! Kudos. At the end of the pond, there was a waterside plaza modeled after a stream where children were playing in the water. It wasn't a very large park, but it felt like a place for locals to relax – and that I did with them.
The newish lawn area and rest pavilion is a brilliant addition, a huge step up from the dust bowl that area was before, it has made this a lovely complete park for its size. There’s now a splashing play stream, 2 x play sets, a ball sports field, a koi pond and the lawn. It’s really a very nice place to hangout now. There's a convenience store about 5 minutes walk away on Waseda dori.
Beautiful koi in the pond and the park offers a play area for children, a sports field, and lots of lovely areas to sit and take in the beauty of nature.
its near my house i visit there so often, i absolutely love going there, kids always seem playing there is a playgrounds too. there is a water park too with fish in it
Loved it. Specially the newly built resting hall where you can read the books or have your snacks after your walk in the park. The construction is still going on. I hope they make it one of the best parks in Tokyo.
Recently they built a clean office which is open for everyone and can be used for kind of working space. Along with the construction, the park was renovated as well. Now it’s more like modern park.
It’s nice place for childrens, especially in summer time. There’s a little stream through the park and a pond with with fishes, ducks and turtles. Kids can have really good time.
For being in Tokyo it feels surprisingly spacious, and is nice and serene at night, a good stroll destination. Honestly though, I'll rate any park in Tokyo 5 stars just for existing at all...

A lovely shrine in Koenji. Loved the colorful teruterubozu seen in this shrine. They even have a weather forecast on a screen outside. They have colorful & unique designs of goshuin for each month. You can purchase each design anytime. Take note that it is ¥500 per page so 1 design for your chosen month will cost ¥1000. Would love to revisit this shrine.
Came here on a week day just train hopping to different shrines for unique goshuin. Love that this shrine is dedicated to weather. Makes their unique goshuin so pretty.
Weather shrine offering unique Goshuincho and Omamori
Cool Shinto Shrine near the station. Well cared for and easy to find.
If you are one to collect Goshuin, know that there is a lady who carves designs into erasers to use as stamps for every month, and they look amazing, tucked away, yet many people go here every day. I go here when I was to ask for better weather. There are 2 shrines, so make sure you go pay your respects to both if you want to buy both, as these are in a way a proof that you paid respects.
This shrine showed up in Weathering With You, and it’s said to be the only shrine in Japan dedicated to weather. It’s small but unique — the ema have little weather symbols, and there are teru teru bozu hanging there. Just a 2-minute walk from the south exit of JR Koenji.
An interesting little shrine dedicated to the weather. They have lots of weather-related charms and amulets. The quality of the goshuin isn't the best (it's just two sheets of printed paper) but it's a nice design. They also offer a standard pre-written goshuin.
there is near the station, so very easy to visit this whicd is very valuable shrine related the weather

City park
Nature & Parks
Open space with a running track around a large grassy field, popular for ball games & flying kites.

A city block sized urban park close to Ogikubo Hospital. A 1/2 km walking/running track, marked at every 100 meters, surrounds an open grassy area where kids can fly kites and toss frizbees. The outside perimeter is tree lined with benches. A nice urban oasis in a busy city.
Beautiful park near Ogikubo Station.
It's wonderful to walk around here
I went there for covid vaccination. A large park area in between the tall buildings ... Having all the basic amenities, seats to relax, joggers path, but nothing for kids. So bring your own entertainment items like ball, cards, food etmc. If you wanna spend time.
Family atmosphere with 500m gravel running track. I personally don't enjoy running on gravel. Quite crowded especially on sunny days. Watch out for little kids (and adults) who may not watch where they're going.
This local park is essentially a large grass field for the families in the area to enjoy. A true oasis and a great place for peoplewatching.
You can have picnic with kids and bring your doggies too here. But too crowded and too hot at summer time because not enough trees around...
Large open area but not crowded

Beautiful temple, find peace and spirituality My favorite temple in Tokyo
Very cool Buddhist temple in Tokyo. Very nice and well kept.
Beautiful and peaceful temple. You can get goshuin and goshudai inside the temple itself, on the right hand side.
10/14/2024 There was a festival going on and I wasn’t sure if it was a local and yearly one or not. It was pretty crowded and there were quite a few of food pop up stands. After 18:00 some parades came in the temple and music with many musical instruments was going on. Need to go back when it’s on a normal day
Beautiful temple in the area that specializes in removing bad luck on during your bad year. There’s a computation for that in front called 厄年。 Behind the main temple is a garden with beautiful Hydrangeas during the rainy season. I’ve been bringing my son here since he was born, lots of kids come to play especially babies and toddlers. It’s a safe quiet place for them. The kids who are taken here usually are regular. There are also really kind cleaning staff that sweep the fallen leaves and remember them when they visit again.. Unfortunately this one staff holding a leaf blower was so mean to my 3 year old. He seems to really hate kids with a passion. He’s not one of the old granpas who I regularly see, but is a bit younger. Because of this experience, I don’t think I want to return for a while. His whole aura was so full of hate it really disturbed me. I would give 5 stars, but because of that one person it totally ruined the whole vibe for me and ruined all the good experiences I’ve had.
What a charming temple in the middle of the city with a small pond and Koi. Quiet place for thinking and praying. Friendly temple keepers are selling blessings and charms.
Beautiful temple and gardens, any season. May-June Hydrangeas and Iris.
Did our hatsumoude here. A quite nice shrine with good management.
