Magnificent, beautiful, elegant. Not to mention their external garden is free to visit. Such a wonderful place to chill and enjoy in a good weather day. Highly recommend. Also very easy to access by public transportation.
Stunning Chateau with much less tourists visiting than Versailles. The views were stunning and my favorite part was walking the town after and eating at a local restaurant. You will need to get the audio guide to listen in English because the web app for the audio is only in french
Loved it. It is a beautiful palace with amazing gardens. Abundance of history. I love visiting historic places. Would have been nice if they offered guided tours in English, currently they only have guided tours in French. Absolutely recommend a visit. The town is also worth visiting.
Speaking of the inside, it's the most amazing place I have visited...comparing to Vienna Austria, Switzerland and Germany. Be there at 9:30am you you may get lucky like we did and have the grand ballroom all to ourselves. Don't forget to get a picture outside on the double staircase.
• Timing & Tickets: We visited in early November. On the first Sunday of November and December, entrance is free. We booked the free tickets online in advance, so we didn’t need to buy any. • Gardens: The gardens were just starting to show autumn colors. The mix of red, yellow, and orange in the trees was stunning and very peaceful. • Museum & Visit: The castle museum was great to explore and very family-friendly. • Facilities: There’s a café on site, but you can also bring your own food and have a simple picnic in the park.
It is a stunning castle, not too far from Paris and rivals the overcrowded Versailles Castle. Here we were able to visit and admire in peace the grand halls, gardens and parks of the castle. It was wonderful.
I like this way more than Versailles, very Peaceful. I didn’t go inside due to lack of time but the walk around the garden was stunning. From Paris you can take the SNCF R train from Lyon to Fountainbleu-Avon and then take bus 3401 to get here. If your ticket includes zone 5 or if you have Paris Visitor Pass then you don’t have to buy extra tickets for those rides.
Amazing place and as it was a freezing cold day in November we practically had the place to ourselves. Easy and cheap to get there on public transit. The Napoleon gallery was interesting.

Fontainebleau is a town southeast of Paris, known for the opulent Fontainebleau Palace. Built by French royalty, with parts dating back to the 1100s, the palace houses Marie Antoinette’s Turkish boudoir, the Napoleon Museum and a lavish theater. Its formal gardens feature ornamental lakes and sculptures. Surrounding the town and chateau is Fontainebleau forest, home to Le Grand Parquet, an equestrian stadium.

Very friendly helpful staff. I tried my French but they spoke excellent English. A good place to buy books on the walks in Fontainebleau forest.
Very helpful staff with good local knowledge.
Such a beautiful place, historical and natural places.
Very friendly and helpful staff! The town is neat, French food is yummy, and the nearby villages have much to offer too, including a big forest to hike and see interesting rocks. I would love to come back to visit Fontainebleau again.
I was in Fontainebleau like 2,3 weeks ago and I’m so grateful to have met this worker at the tourism office named Laurent. He was so nice and professional and gave me the best advice and help to enjoy my stay and my visits. Without him, I wouldn’t have appreciated that town so much! High five for Laurent! If I have to come back, I will definitely deal with him again.
This tourism office was great for us. They helped us find a lab to get our Covid-19 test 72 hours before our departure. And even the day before our departure they were able to get our results printed. A lifesaver. Sandrine and Claudette were EXTREMELY helpful
Very pleasant tourist info point. The staff helped us out in a very friendly manner. There is free Wi-Fi and a public toilet around the corner. You can also charge your devices in the entrance.
I feel like this place doesn’t get talked about enough in French tourism guides. My dad and I absolutely loved exploring the palace, the grounds, and the surrounding village!

It is very wonderful and the owner of the place is a very nice person .. I wish I could enter it soon. It is a piece of eternal bliss ... I recommend spending time here
(Translated by Google) We visited this establishment for Valentine's Day. Of course, there is not enough space to park a car, but this is a problem for all of France))))) We dealt with it extremely quickly. It is worth noting that the restaurant required table reservations. Considering that we timed our visit to celebrate Valentine's Day, we didn't have any problems. At the entrance we were met by the manager of this restaurant and we were quickly seated. The hall is not large and the ceilings are not high, but the ventilation system works very well. When fully seated in the hall, we did not feel stuffy. There is enough space at the tables, spacious and comfortable, we did not feel cramped. We were disappointed that the lamp on our table did not work. There the battery needed to be changed. The neighbors at the table nicely shared theirs)))) Since we chose the dinner formula with champagne, we were served one bottle. Unfortunately it was not big and we ordered a bottle of white wine. Wine prices are reasonable, but the choice of wine list is not large. Dinner was wonderful. Nothing extra. All dishes were prepared perfectly and the presentation of the dishes was beautiful. Classic French cuisine. Portion yield is optimal. We didn't go hungry and most importantly, we didn't feel overeated. It was a little distracting that it became necessary to remind the waiter about the bread and napkin for wine. Small little things but it's distracting. The festive program was excellent. The singers and dancers tried to create a great atmosphere. Overall, the restaurant is excellent with wonderful cuisine, and most importantly, a wonderful music show. I have only seen such an establishment in Paris and the opening of this restaurant was a godsend for me. Considering that we live nearby, this establishment may well compete with Parisian cabarets. I recommend this place to visit and we will definitely come back.

Towards the end of the meal the curtain opens for a colorful show with magnificent costumes, top-notch choreography and ballets. Sequence of sung and danced scenes. Mylène Farmer, Patricia Kass, Julie pietrie.....and many others performed by the hostess Arielle Guilbert, for the male singers the sublime voice of the singer Chrystoph Lemaire will take you on a journey With Sardou, Hallyday, Bachelet, Michael Jackson in a Memorable Thriller painting where dancers with costumes from beyond the grave descend into the room with a participatory audience. Then Song for Le Plaisir by Mr Herbert Léonard who was to die at 6 p.m. a few KM away in Fontainebleau. Chrytophy without knowing it had just paid tribute to an immense artist. The voices follow one another to end in a medley with a mixture of songs and ballets. Huge thanks to the artists, for making me relive the 80s that I knew well. Thank you to the public who knew how to highlight the show for their participation and their good humor, the vast majority were fans of the 80s who knew the songs by heart. A little touch here and there and it's 5* Little advice, the atmosphere after cabaret, free dance floor, it would be advisable to be a little more adapted to your audience and its average age 😉 (Original) Soirée très agréable. Charming museum and very inspiring place. Rosa Bonheur was a fascinating artist and activist. I had a really good time walking around the chateau and enjoyed the brunch in the lovely salon de thé. Kudos to the team who make that place so vibrant! I can't wait to go back and look forward to participate in the festival next summer 🤩🌹
Finally visited the Musée Rosa Bonheur in Thomery. The guide was very informative and interesting. Rosa Bonheur's studio is like stepping back in time and you almost expect her to come through the door and sit at her easel to finish her painting. Many articles are exhibited in beautiful, well-lit cabinets in the roof room. It was a sunny, spring day to wander in the garden and we also had a cup of tea and delicious, freshly-baked madeleines in the tea rooms. Highly recommend visiting and supporting this museum.
What a great place to spend some time! Firstly, the tour tells such an interesting story of a c19th woman fighting against the odds to create a life for herself in art. The building is great ;the studio is fascinating and we found the combination of the audio guide and the person guiding worked really well. Don't hesitate, English speakers! The tour guide was passionate and committed and possibly one of the owners? She was so knowledgeable and had super English too. I was on the waiting list for brunch and asked if there was room and they squeezed us in. It was pricey but special and we did enjoy chatting with the pastry chef who has fabulous English . The food was wonderful. All round the garden is a temporary display by another artist of huge statues of bears and gorillas which was also great..We had a nap in a deckchair- they were setting up for a concert that night so check that out as.well in the summer. Initially I thought €20 a lot for a small place but it was good value and is a memorable place. It was good to learn of a woman who forced the art world to take her seriously and overcome real adversity to triumph. This place has a really cool vibe. Loved it.
We visited yesterday after wanting to see the house for a long time. The museum is superb and was brought alive by our guide who was brilliantly well-informed, enthusiastic and friendly - i would go as far as saying that she was one of the best museum guide's i have had the pleasure to meet. Her English was faultless. Rosa's work is wonderful and seems like an equally wonderful human being. I would recommend visiting and hope to return one day.
Very nice old castle of Rosa Bonheur in the past which is turned into a museum. Have many beautiful paintings, particularly, the animals paintings. Personally, I love animals and art so it’s very enjoyable to visit this museum. It is not so big but full of paintings of her. There is the salon de thé on the ground floor with the reasonable price and serves the delicious tea, hot cocoa, coffee and cakes. I love their hot cocoa, it’s delicious. You need to buy the tickets with the desired time before to come here, there are discounted prices for some special cases, can check out in their website. 20 people maximum for each visit with a guide. The guide is very nice and explained very well. For the salon de thé, there is no need to reserved but it is suggested to reserve before. But the museum is a bit far from Paris. If you have no car, you need to take the train and continue to walk about 15 mins.
Very interesting, quirky, charming museum in the manor where Rosa Bonheur lived and painted with the women of her life. The guided tour is interesting and the guide was very available to answer questions. Some of the objects would benefit from greater explanations though. I highly recommend the brunch in the glasshouse: served in unmatched antique crockery, each ingredient is fresh, tasty and seems highly local when possible (fresh cream, yoghurt, scones..) - with a special mention for the salmon gravlax and the delicious tarama. Take time to explore the garden and wooded area, very evocative of times past.
Truly wonderful experience, Rosa was a remarkable woman and her home reflects who she really was, a woman passionate about animals, art and so very talented. A woman who held her own at a time when the world belonged mostly to men. A very special place.
J'écrirai en anglais pour atteindre un public anglophone! In spite of being very keen on French culture and having studied it (and the language) all my life, I'm ashamed to say I'd never heard of Rosa Bonheur. What a discovery and how well the exhibits in the house go back to the time she lived there. Very memorable. I shall look out for her paintings worldwide - am especially curious to see her work in Scotland!
