Château de Fontainebleau is a grand former royal residence with a rich history dating back to the 12th century. It has been expanded over time by different monarchs and now houses four museums and luxurious apartments. The chateau has played a significant role in French history, being the site of important events such as the Edict of Fontainebleau and the Treaty of Fontainebleau.
Magnificent, beautiful, elegant. Not to mention their external garden is free to visit. Such a wonderful place to chill and enjoy in a good weather day. Highly recommend. Also very easy to access by public transportation.

Stunning Chateau with much less tourists visiting than Versailles. The views were stunning and my favorite part was walking the town after and eating at a local restaurant. You will need to get the audio guide to listen in English because the web app for the audio is only in french
Carlos R — Google review
Loved it. It is a beautiful palace with amazing gardens. Abundance of history. I love visiting historic places. Would have been nice if they offered guided tours in English, currently they only have guided tours in French. Absolutely recommend a visit. The town is also worth visiting.
Eva N — Google review
Speaking of the inside, it's the most amazing place I have visited...comparing to Vienna Austria, Switzerland and Germany. Be there at 9:30am you you may get lucky like we did and have the grand ballroom all to ourselves. Don't forget to get a picture outside on the double staircase.
Les R — Google review
• Timing & Tickets: We visited in early November. On the first Sunday of November and December, entrance is free. We booked the free tickets online in advance, so we didn’t need to buy any. • Gardens: The gardens were just starting to show autumn colors. The mix of red, yellow, and orange in the trees was stunning and very peaceful. • Museum & Visit: The castle museum was great to explore and very family-friendly. • Facilities: There’s a café on site, but you can also bring your own food and have a simple picnic in the park.
Sunny L — Google review
It is a stunning castle, not too far from Paris and rivals the overcrowded Versailles Castle. Here we were able to visit and admire in peace the grand halls, gardens and parks of the castle. It was wonderful.
Ioana M — Google review
I like this way more than Versailles, very Peaceful. I didn’t go inside due to lack of time but the walk around the garden was stunning. From Paris you can take the SNCF R train from Lyon to Fountainbleu-Avon and then take bus 3401 to get here. If your ticket includes zone 5 or if you have Paris Visitor Pass then you don’t have to buy extra tickets for those rides.
Annika S — Google review
Amazing place and as it was a freezing cold day in November we practically had the place to ourselves. Easy and cheap to get there on public transit. The Napoleon gallery was interesting.

The Forest of Fontainebleau, covering 280 square kilometers, is a stunning natural expanse filled with oak and pine trees, as well as abundant wildlife and mushrooms. It encompasses two national forests: Trois Pignons and Fontainebleau. The Base de loisirs de l'ile de Buthiers offers various outdoor activities such as mini-golf, swimming pools, and accrobranches courses within the forest.
A great spot to enjoy a couple of hours in nature, even if you don’t do the hike. I’ll definitely be going back—I read there’s a nice trail worth exploring.

National reserve
Forêt de Fontainebleau is a vast national forest with an extensive network of marked hiking trails, covering 25,000 hectares and offering diverse landscapes. The area features 19 trails, including some starting near Barbizon and others in the south of Fontainebleau castle. It is renowned for its impressive boulder fields, popular among rock climbers, as well as for its picturesque Gorges d'Apremont with breathtaking views.
1 Day 35km hiking 🌳⛺️ Venturing alone into the wilderness for the first time, I found solace in each breath of the forest’s fresh air, unbothered by the fickle weather. Alone, yet surrounded by nature’s whispers, every step echoed freedom—a fleeting dance with solitude under the canopy of trees. 🌲✨ For that moment, I was boundless. P.S. Walking alone in a dark forest at night? Highly not recommended… unless you’re really keen on meeting your imagination. 😅🌌”

Amazing! Clean forest, a lot of different plants and trees. Amazing boulders of course! Dont look at the grating, then you will have a great time🤗

Stunning! But don’t be an idiot like me, and have a call on loud speaker with the dogs, walking into a hunting section…. Keep your eyes open!! 🔥
Bruce S — Google review
Beautiful. Ridiculously low rock climbing opportunities, at about 3 metres. Silly really! A great forest walk, though poorly marked. With so many intersecting trails it is easy to get lost
Andrew P — Google review
The greatest forest in Europe. Beautiful, vast ancient forest. Great for cycling, running, walking, climbing, or just appreciating nature.
John P — Google review
Mythical place to come visit not too far away from Paris. Obviously the boulder scene is very present here, but the woods offer a lot more than that. It is also close to the Chateau de Fontainebleau, so that is very cool.

Garden
Diana Garden, located within the grounds of Chateau de Fontainebleau, has a rich history dating back to the 17th century. Originally featuring box hedge parterres and statues, it was later transformed into an English-style landscaped garden during the Empire period. The garden is known for its iconic Diane statue at its center and offers a serene atmosphere for visitors to enjoy a leisurely stroll or a peaceful picnic.
Beautiful quiet park Free to visit
Ana V — Google review
This is more of a park than a garden. It is rather large so I opted to pay the 8 euros to transverse the whole thing efficiently by this mini white train they have. The ride is bumpy so you can barely hear the audio guide over the sound of wheels on cobblestones. It definitely gets better further into the park and they do address some history and the statues in the park!
Ally L — Google review
Very cute garden, deserves a shot at visiting. The visit is free and can last from 10 minutes to as long as you want. Known for the Diane statue in the middle of it.

Golf course
Fontainebleau Golf Club, established in 1909 and designed by Tom Simpson, is renowned as one of the most stunning and historic courses in France. Nestled just a short distance from Chateau de Fontainebleau, it offers a captivating landscape that transforms throughout the seasons. The course's sandy terrain allows for year-round play and provides an exceptional golfing experience.
A jewel of a golf club. Top five in the Paris area. If you can go, go! Cozy old style, walking golf course with superb sceneries in architecture. I go there once a year only because it’s not closer. The staff are friendly and welcoming.
James J — Google review
They require you to be in full golf attire to have a drink there. I would like someone to test it as I just don’t think they will serve you a drink if you aren’t fully dressed how they expect. Put it on your website if your not open to visitors

This is the most beautiful inland golf course that you will ever play.I guess it should be given that it lies within the forest of former Kings' of France .Hawtree did a remarkable lengthening of an original Tom Simpson layout without changing its character one bit.(Simpson and Donald Ross must have been twins separated at birth).Stay at the Hotel L'Londres and talk golf with its proprietors.

The English Garden, also known as the Pine Garden in the past, has a rich history of redesigns and renovations dating back to the reigns of Francois and Louis XIV. The garden boasts picturesque landscapes with winding pathways, a river, ornamental rock formations, and an impressive collection of exotic trees. It is located just 30 kilometers from Paris and offers a serene escape for visitors.
Beautiful garden for a promenade, picnic.. access is usually free (except when events are planned so check the website in advance). You can easily spend an hour there walking. Very calm and effectively gives you a break from the city.
Céline L — Google review
We just visited in mid March so didn’t see too much blooms but at least the grass is green and some bushes had flowering. It has some small streams and beautiful mini bamboo bushes for exotic look.
David E — Google review
The Gardens are very english after their name. I went back to my memories when I walked through these Gardens.
Joyal D — Google review
An average garden by French standard. Quite basic with grass field anda few statues. We live right next to Luxembourg garden and pay frequent visit to it. Also been to Versailles and Loire Valley só this is substandard for us. If you only visit Paris for a few days and save your time and visit other gardens/ castles instead.

(Translated by Google) The garden isn't very large, but it has a special atmosphere. Bridges, streams, sculptures, and, of course, a plush lawn. The century-old maples are enormous; walking under their canopy in the heat provides a pleasant feeling of coolness. And when you stroll and come to the pond with a gazebo in the center, you can see the castle from a different angle, giving it a completely different view. The Musée départemental des peintres de Barbizon is a charming museum located in a former auberge where the renowned 19th-century painters of the Barbizon School resided. The museum showcases the living quarters where the artists stayed, with their decorations still visible in the dining and dormitory rooms. Visitors can admire an array of paintings by various artists associated with the Barbizon movement. Although explanations are primarily in French, there are English subtitles available for a compelling video presentation.
Such a wonderful museum; a real hidden gem of the Paris region! It felt so momentous to be viewing important works of art in such intimate and authentic surroundings. And to visit the old auberge that was the backdrop to this major art movement. I can't believe I haven't visited before this, but will definitely go back many times for this unique immersive experience. The little film that is shown is well worth watching.

This is a wonderful, small museum based in a former auberge where painters of the Barbizon School stayed. Amazing hike. Loved following the blue dashes for the trail. The AllTrails map didn’t work perfectly, but the blue lines along the trail are very easy to follow. Beautiful forest with lots of interesting monuments and buildings along the way.

When in the area go check it out, you won't be disappointed. The panoramic view is great. Park your car at Carrefour de la croix de Toulouse. This is roundabout at the crossing of D116 and D138 surrounded by a car park. Then it's a 20 minute walk, first part is paved and the last minutes a small trail to the top. Easy and fun walk with the whole family.

Massif des Trois Pignons, located in the Fontainebleau area, is a nature lover's paradise. The forest offers various activities such as family hikes and bouldering, making it an ideal destination for exploration on foot, horseback, or bike throughout the year. One of its highlights is the challenging 25 Bosses trail that provides stunning landscapes but requires some hiking experience. Despite occasional poor markings, this exotic hike remains a real pleasure for outdoor enthusiasts.

(Translated by Google) This is the second time I have hiked the 25 Bosses trail and it remains a real pleasure. It’s an exotic hike when you live in the Paris region. Despite the many hikers, the forest remains very clean. Even if they are not very varied, the landscapes are magnificent. The hike is rather difficult for amateurs, which makes it a real challenge. On the other hand, I am removing a star because the marking is sometimes very poorly done. We got “lost” more than once. I obviously recommend this hike, especially during the week because it is much less crowded, which makes it much more pleasant...

Hosts Daniel and Joel were incredibly friendly, sharing the fascinating history of this estate, once home to renowned writer Marcel Arland. The sprawling garden, bathed in sunlight, is tucked away in a charming town alley—perfect for escaping city life. As a B&B, the breakfast is a highlight, featuring Daniel’s homegrown fruit jams and pesticide-free herbal teas. The estate’s renovation is impressive, blending historical charm with personal touches. Despite the hot French weather, the house stays well-ventilated, with small fans in rooms ensuring a comfortable night’s sleep. Highly recommend!

We had the pleasure of staying at Château de Brinville four nights – and it was a truly wonderful experience. The beautifully restored manor/château is full of history, and the authentic, spacious rooms offer views over the magnificent garden, which is filled with flowers and fruit trees. The hosts are incredibly welcoming and kind, and you quickly feel like a guest in their private home. Breakfast is a classic French delight, with fresh fruit and homemade jam from their own garden. It’s a wonderful experience to enjoy breakfast, as well as afternoon or evening tea, in the charming lounges or out in the beautiful garden. The château is located just a 30-minute drive from Paris, in perfectly peaceful and quiet surroundings. A stay here is more than just an overnight accommodation – it’s a personal and authentic experience, where the hosts are happy to share stories about the renovation work and the life in their beautiful garden. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

(Translated by Google) We visited this establishment for Valentine's Day. Of course, there is not enough space to park a car, but this is a problem for all of France))))) We dealt with it extremely quickly. It is worth noting that the restaurant required table reservations. Considering that we timed our visit to celebrate Valentine's Day, we didn't have any problems. At the entrance we were met by the manager of this restaurant and we were quickly seated. The hall is not large and the ceilings are not high, but the ventilation system works very well. When fully seated in the hall, we did not feel stuffy. There is enough space at the tables, spacious and comfortable, we did not feel cramped. We were disappointed that the lamp on our table did not work. There the battery needed to be changed. The neighbors at the table nicely shared theirs)))) Since we chose the dinner formula with champagne, we were served one bottle. Unfortunately it was not big and we ordered a bottle of white wine. Wine prices are reasonable, but the choice of wine list is not large. Dinner was wonderful. Nothing extra. All dishes were prepared perfectly and the presentation of the dishes was beautiful. Classic French cuisine. Portion yield is optimal. We didn't go hungry and most importantly, we didn't feel overeated. It was a little distracting that it became necessary to remind the waiter about the bread and napkin for wine. Small little things but it's distracting. The festive program was excellent. The singers and dancers tried to create a great atmosphere. Overall, the restaurant is excellent with wonderful cuisine, and most importantly, a wonderful music show. I have only seen such an establishment in Paris and the opening of this restaurant was a godsend for me. Considering that we live nearby, this establishment may well compete with Parisian cabarets. I recommend this place to visit and we will definitely come back.

Shocking experience here, at the outdoor bar (not theatre). Complete lack of respect and humanity from 2 guys working here. It’s a summer evening, everyone is in a good mood except 2 guys working at the bar clearing out the chairs for closing. 5min after ordering our drinks one guy starts making aggressive sounds while putting the chairs away, clearly trying to sound intimidating to push us away. He’s slamming chairs down and making loud growling sounds. And while this is happening another rude guy tells us to leave in the same way a police officer would talk to a criminal (no exaggeration). We say we just ordered the glasses and were told we had 30min. He aggressively says “No. I bring you paper cups and you will leave”. There is no excuse for this kind of behaviour in any context. My friends and I were shocked.

Extremely impolite and aggressive staff. Last time when In Fontainebleau, I stayed nearby and they hosted a party for Series Series (a small film festival) on Thursday evening that was so noisy that it was impossible to sleep. When I asked them how long it will go to get an idea what to expect they did not tell me and “recommended” to call the police which is ridiculous - and fascinating to see how they act as a public entity.

(Translated by Google) Great afternoon. Very beautiful racecourse. Entrance 4€50, you cannot pay for entry with a credit card. Big minus: Very few counters and betting machines so there is a queue. We just watch the race and wait in line. Add machines. That way we'll have time to go get beers. (Original) Super après-midi.

The Musée motocycliste de la Gendarmerie nationale, although slightly expensive, offers a wide range of exhibits that showcase the history and significance of motorcycles in the national police force. With its extensive collection of vintage bikes and artifacts, this museum provides visitors with an immersive experience into the world of motorcycle policing. Despite the cost being a bit high, enthusiasts and those interested in law enforcement will find value in exploring this unique attraction.

A Fantastic Complex for all local people or Parisians who need a country weekend and time off. The staff are all charming and fun and being a military base everyone is treated with respect, kindness and equality. I highly recommend Citesports Avon to people considering taking yearly subscriptions. The Olympic size swimming pool is wonderful with a good temperature and lanes for the public as well as lanes for the military. The changing rooms are spacious and zen. Benefits include a great sauna room and talented teachers for all courses with funky music to accompany many of the lessons. The young children love their lessons here as there is great equipment for them including floaters, masks, goggles and flotation tubes. Over the years I have tested many of the courses and Aquabike is wonderful for people of all ages and in particular for those with blood circulation problems, arthritus, post-surgery, post-natal, post accident etc. The group of ladies (and the odd gentleman!) in their 70's and 80's are seriously impressive! They rock! In 2014 I lost some sensation in several places in both my legs and both my arms due to secondary effets post surgery and with three years of swimming here and practising water physio (a german technique I use) I suddenly regained all feeling. The benefits of water are incredible for so many of us and practising water physio in salt water is even more beneficial. When acquabikes are invented for sea use and not only pool use they will make a fortune! It would be super amazing and great if on Friday evenings Citesport would think of putting on cool and zen peaceful music for two hours when they turn off the lights and when the pool is only lit by underwater lighting. It is a very refreshing end to often very busy weeks for so many of us and it would be also peaceful and healing for the soliders and their wives, particularly those who have known phsyical or mental trauma in their postings in war zones or difficult situations. They could even make a play list themselves.. Food for thought.. Music is a universal language and Water is from where we are born and is a large percentage of our bodies and our planet. In South-East Asia, India, China and Arab countries both water and music are blended with integrity, harmony and cultural individuality, and for optimal effect everywhere.. The combination of both works wonders on all kinds of health problems for so very many people and for peace and quiet for all others...

(Translated by Google) Be careful, it's a military compound and you have to show your credentials to enter. You leave your papers there to be able to join the swimming pool. Entrance is expensive €7, which is a lot even if the pool is wide and the water at a good temperature. Attendance is relatively low in winter which allows you to enjoy it. If you go by bus, be on time, they are not frequent. (Translated by Google) Hello, I'm writing to share my recent experience with your establishment. When I registered, the welcome was very warm and welcoming. However, once I was registered, I was disappointed by the complete change in attitude of the reception staff (a young woman with long black hair and glasses). When I asked for information about schedules that weren't posted, I felt like I was intruding. The responses were curt and unfriendly, both in person and on the phone. I found this a real shame, especially since I had been warmly welcomed when I registered. I understand that reception staff can be overwhelmed, but a little kindness and courtesy goes a long way. I also noticed that schedules aren't always posted, which means I have to ask each time. Regarding cleanliness, I can't say it's great. I would also like to point out that the pool water is very cold, and the women's lockers lacked keys. It would be nice to have working lockers. Fortunately, the rest of the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I hope you will take my comments into consideration to improve your guests' experience. Cordialement,

(Translated by Google) I have been going to Citésports since it opened and so far I have been very satisfied. Recently I noticed that on weekends 2 water lines of 50 m are reserved for clubs; leading to over-occupancy (this morning 12 in my line!...) in the 2 remaining 50 m water lines. Common sense would dictate that clubs train outside public opening hours: they would be spoiled for choice...
