Lovely small aquarium , lots of locally found species, ideal for children as you are able to feed and ‘tickle’ the fish. Also the lady let us hold a starfish. Very engaging for young and old alike.
What a wonderful aquarium in Lyme Regis. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit in May half-term, and although the aquarium is small, you're treated like an old friend from beginning to end. The owner talked us through the history of the aquarium and showed us how to hand-feed the mullet, which was a fantastic experience for all of us! Our children were then able to hold starfish and take a look at all of the local marine life that the aquarium had to offer. We felt the price was extremely reasonable for the intimacy of the aquarium and to keep such a wonderful treasure open to the public. Would definitely recommend and return in the future.
Great time hand feeding the mullet and seeing starfish up close - have visited many times in the last decade and will continue to! While it is small, the joy is in seeing the variety of fish that are locally brought in (and then released as others come) and feeding the mullet. Great to see local wildlife up close. Very knowledgeable team, Max who leads the place is lovely. Recommended to anyone who loves fish and is keen to feed them by hand.
A short but very memorable visit, with the hand feeding of the mullet being a real highlight. At £10 per person over 15 years old, it seemed expensive for a relatively small display. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff
Really enjoyed our visit to Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium. We loved feeding the mullet and enjoyed holding and finding out about starfish. Staff were really friendly and knowledgeable.
A lovely quirky little aquarium where you can hand feed the fish (such a weird sensation!) and a small but interesting selection of local aquatic wildlife.
Lovely, small, but great half an hour or so, looking at local sea life, and learning more about the natural and historical life of Lyme Regis. The 'manager' was so friendly and informative - we fed the fish and held a starfish. Thank you
Visited 3/04/2024, such a good little addition to the harbour. We got welcomed by a lovely man who showed us how to hand feed the mullet fish which he’s has trained to eat from the hand. Such a great experience and children will love the way it’s more interactive. We then went into the other side of the aquarium and saw lots of fish, lobster & crabs. We then got to hold a star fish and learn about them. Such a great experience!

I'd never been to Lyme Regis before, but we watched 'The French Lieutenant's Woman' the other night, and it's only an hour from home, so we thought we'd go. 'The Cob' is the breakwater that takes the worst of the storms to keep the harbour safe. It was a windy, wet day and the water wash lashing against the cob - perfect. There was a little aquarium there too, so we went in and fed 'the mullets'. Lyme Regis is a gorgeous seaside town. Much more salubrious than the usual seas-side towns full of amusement arcades and tat shops. Definitely worth a day trip, if not a few days there. We also did some fossil hunting, and came away with a good haul of fossils. Woohoo ! The Mary Anning statue was lovely to see too ... such amazing dedication to her chosen career.
Parked just outside of Lyme Regis harbour in a large pay & display car park, as parking anywhere near the harbour is nigh-on impossible! Lovely windy day, along the seafront onto the infamous Cobb. Great to retrace our steps from a childhood holiday many moons ago. Plenty of fossil shops & food places to suit all budgets.
Beautiful little harbour with sea trips and a museum. Nice walk up on the harbour walls in good weather but don’t be a Nelly and try it when the seas are stormy as you don’t want to end up in the drink.
As a lifelong Persuasion fan, this was a bucket list visit. The Cobb did not disappoint. A walk along the seawall is not for anyone who does not like heights or water, as you are up where it's quite blustery and there are no railings. Stunning views of the sea and you cannot beat the atmosphere.
An amazing place for a wander with great views over the harbour, seafront and Jurassic coastline...on a clear day you can see as far as Portland. The best walk is along the top wall if you don't mind the height. The Cobb is famous and mentioned in Jane Austin's 'Persuasion' and it has been used in several films, including 'The French Lieutenant's Woman' with Meryl Streep and more recently 'Wonka'.
Fantastic walk along the sea wall top and bottom
Nice place to walk around sea walls, sit on one of the benches with your lunch, and great for nice photos.
The beautiful Cobb forms the harbour at Lyme Regis. Steeped in hundreds of years of maritime history (local and world-wide). It’s a working harbour so expect small fishing vessels offloading at times, along with unguarded drops and uneven paving in places. The Cobb is the focal piece for the ‘Candles on the Cobb’ fundraiser for charities, held every three years, where the public purchase a candle in memory of someone no longer with us, music is played in the buildup to the lighting of the 5000 candles, followed by moving poetry and a few minutes of silence. Over 260 volunteers make this event run smoothly for the 10,000 visitors. Last held 24th August 2025. The RNLI lifeboat station is located at the entrance to The Cobb. During the summer season fishing and sight-seeing trips start here. Close by you’ll find various local shops and food outlets to meet most holiday needs

What a fantastic place. We were lucky enough to have visited when the mill was working. The miller was great and gave us a tour of the mill and was so knowledgeable. All the volunteers were so friendly and passionate about the mill.
Such a lovely place!! We pop by every time we are in Lyme. This year, we had extended family with us. While we were busy nosing around, Steve offered a tour and the kids loved it! Totally hands on, super educational. No queues, free entry, fresh flour to purchase, love folks running the place, I hope this charming place remains open for the younger generations to enjoy.
I don't know if this applies to the Mill or the space around it - my review is of the general space, which is pedestrianised and rather lovely. The microbrewery serves a great range of beers, and has a barman with his own cockatoo for added amusement (be sure to ask before touching it). The Strawberry Tree offers amazing tapas, we had a wonderful evening meal with 11 people there and it was excellent (I have reviewed it seperately). There are also studios there offering pottery classes, sewing classes, pilates, and even cookery classes. The courtyard is lit by festive lights, and has a range of outdoor seating available. There are also some toilets available next to the tapas restaurant.
The mill was open when we popped into Lyme Regis! I enjoyed looking around and the chap was very knowledgeable. Free to visit but I bought a bag of flour as a thank you. Great to know I'll be baking with no added items!
Lovely old working mill. Really good access to see the workings of the mill and the friendly volunteers give an informative insight into the old days and ways of producing flour. Well worth a visit. Note: No dogs allowed as it produces flour and has to adhere to the rules and regulations regarding food production.
Brilliant if you like local history. All the volunteers were excellent 👌🏻
Wonderful example of living history, and free to visit. This watermill was closed in 1926 and lovingly brought back to life 75 years later by a group of local volunteers, who continue to run it. Saw the water wheel and the milling process in action and had a fascinating talk with one of the volunteer millars who explained all about how the mill works. Really brought my GCSE history (from 30+ years ago!) to life! Lovely shop too.
Very interesting talk and demo from volunteer Rob. Entry with donations only and a lovely shop where you can buy flour milled on site.

I visited on Sunday and Dinosaurland almost immediately became my favourite museum. Steve (the owner and curator) gave us entry and he was so welcoming. Bursting with geological treasures and real fossils, it was a treat to visit exhibits not aimed primarily at children. Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of kids enjoying themselves, but as a group of scientifically minded adults who enjoy natural history there was so much for us to learn and enjoy. Especially the map room, I loved the map room! 🧭🗺️🌏
A Museum with its fossilised heart in the right place. My party went with an hour until closing time, and we were the only ones there the entire time. Great for kids and families. It's a bit rough around the edges, namely it could do with a good clean. Lovely guy on reception.
This museum is an absolute gem for anyone interested in fossils. It’s packed with countless fossils, beautifully displayed with informative modules and pictures. I loved how full each display was. There’s also a section with stuffed animals, moths, and skeletons that adds even more variety to the experience. Great for kids and adults alike. Definitely worth a visit if you're into the historical animals.
Today we spent a good hour checking out the fossil museum and we were not disappointed!!! We were greeted by a friendly member of staff who explained to my son all about different ammonites. So much to see and learn. Being dog friendly was a big bonus. Great for the young ones to learn about dinosaurs and fossil hunting. Well worth checking out.
A Fossil Lover’s Paradise! Dinosaurland is a delightfully quirky gem that punches well above its weight. Nestled in a charming corner of Lyme Regis, it’s packed to the rafters with fossils—local treasures from the Jurassic Coast and fascinating specimens from around the globe. Whether you're a seasoned palaeontology buff or just curious, there’s something here to spark your imagination. The displays are thoughtfully curated, with in-depth information that brings each artifact to life. You’re not just looking at rocks—you’re glimpsing ancient worlds. The museum’s independent spirit shines through in every nook, making it feel personal and passionate rather than polished and corporate. A must-visit if you’re in the area. Quirky, educational, and utterly captivating.
Lovely museum absolutely packed with specimens and fascinating accompanying information plates. The passion and humour of the owner really shows and I loved that he displays the results of his scientific research done on the specimens. Great value for the family ticket.
visited today for the 4th or 5th time and now as an adult, it was even more interesting and amazing to me now even though i’ve visited before. anyone who leaves a bad review is a miserable piece of work who couldn’t be impressed by anything as there is SO MUCH to see and for such a good price as well. if you get around this museum in under an hour then you’re clearly not reading or looking at everything properly as there is an unbelievable amount of things to see. genuinely so impressive
This is a real gem , fantastic displays in a historic building and a visual extravaganza. Thoroughly recommend to anyone of all ages to visit as it is a truly inspirational and inspiring place to visit.

Wonderful place to wonder and look for all the large fossils in the rocks. Hard terrain to walk on in some places, but well worth the walk. Do be mindful after rainfall of the shale and clay running down in sticky mud rivers and the cliff crumbling in places.
Stony and dirty.. Only good fun to take kids "Fossil hunting". Right at the side of a row of old static caravans which ruins the scenery quite a bit. Sea colour is brown, and it's heavily over crowded with people chipping away on stones to find "fossils".
Wonderful wander along the beach admiring the fossils. A lot of people with hammers breaking rocks open, which I don't think is necessary as the big fossils scattered along the beach are plentiful and lovely to look at. Watch out for mud slides along the cliff and stay out of the very sticky mud.
Lovely beach - really big and lots of room. We enjoyed looking for fossils. The views were great. Shame about the parking prices, very expensive. Would probably use the park and ride next time (we weren't aware of it). Bring a picnic, the food prices are 'steep'
Beautiful beach. Fossils galore! Me and my brother spent awhile just walking up and down in the sun checking the rocks out. No hammers, just looking! Well worth the trip here! Highly recommend for all ages! Lots of car park spaces, some parking machines are cash only and some are card only, maybe some are both but I didn't actually come across that. £1.60 for 1 hour, £3.20 for hours. Clean toilets right by the car park! Taps and motorhome waste disposal things..
Wonderful place to visit. There is plenty of seating available to just sit and watch the world go by. It has nice beaches, some are a rocky type and some are the traditional sandy type. There is a set of steps that lead straight up to the car park. The harbour is nice to look at. Which has a large variety of boat to see at different times of the year, some commercial and some are just for pleasure. You can even take a boat trip along the coast if you wish to.
As part of a visit to Lyme Regis, on an Autumn evening, I enjoyed the views and atmosphere of this beach with its pebbles. The water looks popular for surfers and the ways seemed quite high. There are views across to the Jurassic Coast and also the marina. Parking is close by and is relatively cheap as well.
A lovely beach for an afternoon walk with the dog! We went after a storm and there had been alot of subsidence on the cliff, a little dangerous but lots of opportunities to look for fresh fossils. An easy way to loose a few hours without noticing. Well recommended for all the family.

Parking is a bit of a premium but if you manage to find somewhere, you won't be disappointed!! The walk through to the gardens is on the level which can be easily accessible for those in a wheelchair. The views are extraordinary with lots of benches to sit and take in the scenery. There are plenty of places for lunches/dinners along with coffee shops and a bacon sandwich to boot!!
Lovely gardens with stunning views across the Parade, the Cobb, out to sea and across as far as Portland. Pleasant paths. Gentle slope for wheel chairs - though a hard push back up!! Small but varied and well kept.
Magical place with a lovely view of the beach, you can have nice time for a walk, picnic and playtime with the children’s. Specially when the weather is nice. A lovely garden, but I was so tired to go into the forest that is there, but if you have time use a whole day to se everywhere around the beach. Absolutely a family place.
Lovely gardens with beautiful trees and bushes and a fab place to sit and look over the bay. There is a fab Mini golf and table tennis area. There are various statues and pieces of art work on display too. Nice walk down from cliff car park to the beach although quite a few steps.
These gardens are truly an asset to Lyme Regis. They are beautiful and well kept all year round. We visited Kew Gardens in the autumn and it wasnt as clurful as these gardens. Lovely to sit and view the sea. Then walk down the Cobb and view the gardens fir a different perspective. 10 stars to the gardeners.
Pretty epic gardens, well kept and beautiful with panoramic views of the sea. Would definitely recommend a visit. Perfect for finding a little headspace or relaxing. We found it was a nice cut-through down to the sea and better than the road / pavement route
Great well maintained gardens with excellent views of the sea an harbour, with interesting sculptures.
From being a child visiting Lyme to a grown adult playing crazy golf so many fabulous memories. One of the loveliest vistas in the world...

Coming from Bristol, didn't think this place could possibly live up to the reviews and compare with the range of beer we have in the city. But god, what a cool place, and great beer! An outstanding range is available and lovely little nooks to hide away in upstairs.
We always enjoy visiting the brewery when we are in Lyme. We love the different brews that are on offer. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. The courtyard is a lovely place to enjoy a pint or two. The gin is delicious too. 🙂
A fantastic Craft Brewery located in the historic Mill close to the town centre. Offers a wide choice of beer and cider. All taste great. My favourite was Poker’s Pool, an amazing Hazy Pale. Staff are very friendly & helpful. Was the first Craft Brewery I’d been offered a taste before purchase. Highly recommend.
Lovely small brewery with a good selection of beers Discovered years ago, pleasure to have a pint every time we are in Lyme Regis
Fantastic selection of drinks, lovely space inside and plenty of room outside. We have returned many times in our trip here!
A great little bar! We've been coming here for about 10 yrs maybe and it always has a nice friendly atmosphere, great beers, larger and cider. there are also soft drinks and crisps but no food. Usually you'll find a seat somewhere and other drinkers are happy to share their tables. It's in a nice central spot with a car park and dinning options close by. It's dog friendly, children are also allowed if not going bonkers all over the place. It's wheelchair accessible to the outside seating area but unfortunately it wouldn't be possible inside I think but the bar is so close to the door that making a drink choice could be made from outside easily. The staff are friendly and the prices are about average for nowadays. All in all its well worth stopping in and enjoying a nice drink and a little break form the beach 👍
Brilliant place for a pint (or a few). Great selection of ales, lost available bottle conditioned to take away, too. Loads of other merchandise too...t shirts, hoodies, tote bags, etc. Great to sit inside (downstairs or upstairs) or outside.
Small micro brewery located on the far eastside of very pretty Lyme Regis. It's in an area where there is also a gallery where local artists display their paintings, pottery shop, mill museum, pretty small restaurants with al fresco dining and a pretty small garden by a stream. They served 3 different local beers on draught and also sold bottled beer and souvenir clothing. Upstairs and outdoor seating is comfortable and stylish. Refreshing a glass of beer for a nice sunny day by the coast.

Brilliant little theatre & I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. It was a 2 hour drive for me but so well worth it. Came here to see The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, who as usual was absolutely stunning. Got to meet him too. Lyme Regis in general is a lovely little place, so do check out the Marine Theatre, run by volunteers & like a lot of the nice old theatres, needs everyone's support. Great place 👌👍
A very small but perfectly formed venue. Sound was perfect for the music being peformed, staff were helpful and friendly, two small bars (one downstairs and a larger yet still cosy bar upstairs which leads out to a wonderful veranda with a view of the seafront). It had a truly cosy, inviting feel. A real gem of a place.
We saw Gaslight at the Marine Theatre and love both the production and the theatre! Smallish with every seat a good one. A little bar with exceptional service. Everyone - staff, audience, and actors were terrific. During bows the audience was invited to have a drink with the cast, and fantastic ice cream was available at intermission! If you have the opportunity to see a show at the Marine Theater, please do!
Fantastic venue right by the sea. Friendly and helpful staff Saw a Bowie tribute band the show was great and we had a great time. Photos and vid taken at the show.
A fantastic vintage style venue in a fabulous location with carparks nearby. Some amazing gigs and events are put on here.
Absolutely wonderful! Saw Strictly murder this evening and it was fantastic. Lovely theatre, good bar and ice cream at reasonable prices and a great experience. Play was excellent and cast brilliant. Definitely going again
I have seen a special gig at this venue! FULU band! The theatre was amazing 🤩 great spot!
Wonderful little theater. We were in Lyme Regis and walked by so picked up some tickets (from the bookstore) for the next nights show, Strictly Murder. The performance was great and it was an enjoyable way to to spent the evening.

A really friendly atmosphere, Very relaxed. Nicki is a brilliant vicar. They have lovely bells which are rung before the Sunday service.
We had a lovely walk along to the river to Uplyme. Unfortunately, when we got to the church we were greeted by a very rude school teacher who told us we couldn't be there. I understand we can't be there if a class is taking place but a sign out the front or just a bit of politeness or courtesy wouldn't have been much to ask for.
Very friendly, easy to get to.open door altime. Very calming, and a wonderful church to worship in.
What a beautiful little church. Revd. Nicky is so welcoming and lovely. Came for a Christening.Beautiful acoustics. I would definitely visit again.
Although I went there for a memorial service, I was so impressed with the congregation, and the layout of the interior.
We visited the church as part of our walk from Lyme Regis along the River Lim Path that runs from the town to Uplyme.
Love historic buildings, and this one is rather special.

This is by far the best place that I have ever stayed in, ever. It really is like dying and going to heaven. Surrounded by books on all subjects, from all eras, it is just fantastic. I'm struggling to find a superlative that does justice to this treasure trove. I stayed in the sea view room, Bob is a lovely host, unfortunately I didn't get to meet Mariko due to her being away. I'm very definitely coming back here. I really do not want to go home.
I really liked this book shop, but didn't get to spend as much time in it as I would have liked, squeezed in there twice (just)and bought books on both occasions, but funnily enough I thought I'd missed more than I'd seen. If you do visit this fantastic shop give yourself plenty of time. Looking forward to returning soon,to browse & undoubtedly buy in your fabulous shop. Revisited July 2022. Definitely my kind of bookshop, be seeing you again in July 2023.
In its capacity as a bookshop, you won't need to come looking for anything specific. You'll leave with about five books you didn't know you needed until that point. As a B&B, it was a genuine treasure to stay at this beachside building. Mariko was a considerate host, we always felt welcome, and her meals were delightful; would definitely recommend asking for her Japanese breakfast. Convenient parking and location on the high street, you'll struggle to leave with the ocean of books lapping at your heels. Ask to book the sea view and enjoy the serene atmosphere. Can't find a room like this anywhere else.
Absolutely fascinating place full of books & magazines old and modern every category also curiosities and antiques cds vinyl and much much more. The charming owner Bob is there to assist. It's a must visit everytine I visit Lyme Regis
Not so much a book shop as a curiosity shop.Dont expect a greeting returned to you from the owner either.I rang to see what kind of books he bought. All books he said. Not really true, only collectors books he can sell I suspect. Just take a handful of books.Dont struggle down the hill with 2 full boxes like I did, because you'll be struggling back up with 2 full boxes. In fact, save the effort and just sell on line yourself.xxx
My love of books..xxx
An Aladdin's cave of hidden treasures. I stumbled upon this by accident and could only look around briefly due to my family pressing on up the hill. If you want to find rare, unusual, or out of print books, then this is the place for you. I found a rare copy of the Penguin SF collection from 1963. The Zane Grey collection was out of my price bracket. There are at least 5 different rooms and sections, including an old gramophone room that has music playing in the background as if transported through time. Worth allocating browsing time for this shop.
Perfect bookshop with an extraordinary atmosphere and variety of stock. Very pleasant and knowledgeable proprietor. Can only recommend this establishment: give yourself the time to dig thoroughly and visit all the rooms (and floors!) with the basement being my favourite: a whole hidden world within its walls!

St Michael’s church is a step back into history. So much to see inside as well as the famous grave of Mary Anning with her brother Joseph. Definitely worth seeing. Also there is the grave of MARY PHILPOT - Mary (1777-1838), who settled there for life. Philpot family; the sisters Mary, Margaret and Elizabeth made a significant collection of fossils and often worked with Mary Anning. I would definitely recommend having a look around and finding out more if you have the time and are interested in the history. 👍🏻
Visited by chance during a visit to the town. I was overwhelmed by the beauty of this church with its rich collection of artefacts and memorials, The quality of the building details and the fittings is superb. Overall it exudes a feeling of being used and being loved in the cleanliness and floral decorations. The stained glass windows are thrilling and the font is especially interesting. Such history, such a joy to be in. A little historical leaflet is suggested.
Of historical importance for Lyme Regis, not least because the cemetery contains the grave of famed fossil finder Mary Anning. The tower is the oldest visible element and contains fine Norman arches and pillars revealed during partial renovation in the 19th century, though there is archaeological evidence it is actually of Saxon construction. There is a 15th century tapestry on display, and a self serve kitchen enables visitors to get what is likely to be the cheapest cup of tea in Lyme Regis...
Beautiful church inside and out. Lots of nice stained glass windows to look at. Also you can Visit the grave of famous fossil hunter Mary Anning.
Only a 3 because I dont do religion. Very lovely church with lovely architecture and a fabulous pipe organ . Went to a perfomamce here and even for this synical old duffer it was brilliant and the acoustics we great
St Michael's calls me wherever I go. So glad I got to visit the serenity and peace in this church.
Wonderfully historic church on top of the cliffs. Has served out community for centuries and has a real homely atmosphere

Amazing Landmark Trust place, lovely house with great views down to The Cob. The little café in the car park over the road is very good too! Interesting house, very well maintained, and a lovely garden.
Wonderful view of harbour and great location at the top of Lyme Regis. Beautiful Georgian house that used to belong to the novelist John Fowles. Now furnished in austere Georgian style, in manner of English Heritage, not at all as he would have had it, if that matters. Genteel, plain, a bit draughty? Large well-appointed kitchen with longest sink I've ever seen, running from front to back of the island unit. Lovely garden.
A beautifully restored Georgian seaside villa that sleeps 8 and is available for holiday lets by The Landmark Trust. The house is open to the public to look once a year during the Heritage open weekend.
Very rarely open to the public, usually run as a holiday rental business by Th Landmark trust. A building that has an interesting history but is not a museum piece. Good to visit when you find it open.
What a glorious place to stay. Landmark Trust do a super job. The house is warm and all set up for a holiday for up to 8

Lovely restored house, lots of history and an observatory to boot!
