A pleasant, easy walk along a former railway line. Always enjoyable in any season, but now that Spring is bursting forth, some colour is coming back to enhance it. Check out the Bluebell Wood, just off the track a few hundred yards out of Hayfield. Not quite in full bloom yet, but by early May they could be at their best.
Sett valley walk with access to Lantern pike and leads to new mills if carry on the trail , horse friendly With bridal ways and cafe along the way makes a great walk and view over the river , great for runners , walkers and dogs as it’s flat and paved / rabble
Very nice walk close to the river very flat and even underfoot great for all ages including wheelchair users
Lovely location for a short gentle walk or a longer walk for the more energetic. We walked from the Visitor Centre at Hayfield to Birch Vale, which took about 25 mins. It's a very level path and suitable for wheelchairs, mobility cycles and bicycles. We stopped at one of the many benches along the route to have our packed lunch. Lovely views along the route.
It's a pleasant short walk on flat, maintained paths. Sett Valley cafe half way along is excellent. In late April Bluebell woods is stunning.
4 miles of easy walking, great for gentle exercise or dog walking. Nice cafe halfway and Hayfield has good food and drink options.
Great place for a loop of Jacobs ladder on your mtb, walkers are actually very kind and considerate when you pass. The town and surrounding area is just stunning to see, a national treasure.
Sett Valley and Lantern pike. Former railway line linking New Mills and Hayfield. In Hayfield, there is a parking lot at very beginning of trail.

Great park for children of all ages. As well as all the playground equipment, there is also a walk through the woods and ornamental gardens up near the old Hall. In the old Hall on from Thursday's onwards the cafe is open currently from 11:00 a.m. The cafe sells the delicious Ginge ice cream which is made locally. Please note the cafe is closed from Monday to Wednesdays currently. There is also a museum in the Hall with an interactive miniature railway and a lot of details from old new mills and a little shop. Also a toilet for people for less able people. Absolutely well worth a visit.
This is a lovely park a short walk from New Mills Bus Station, some lovely little walks around it, and a really well maintained park great for all the family
A large traditional park with some lovely views and walks. There are free toilets, a seasonal cafe, community orchard and a great equipped playground. Close to the New Mills Railway station and bus routes.
We parked at high lea park on side street and it's good for kids with playing area. My 11 year old child liked it. Restrooms were not clean. Water to wash hands was ice cold. After park we crossed the road and went down towards the other area and it was a good walk with bridge etc.
Fantastic park. There is a cafe in the park thsts open every day in the summer and Thursday to Sunday from mid September onwards. The cafe serves tea, coffee, ice-cream and basic breakfast snacks like toast and crumpets. The park is big and has lots of playground rides for all ages and a fitness area. A zip wire and a huge slide for older kids as well. Well worth a visit, close to the town centre and bus/train station as well.
Lovely park to relax or have fun with the kids, well kept for the most part
A lovely park. It is so well maintained. The flowers at the moment are beautiful. A great selection of play equipment for all ages- adults included. A lovely cafe and clean toilets.
A great place to take the kids. On warmer days, an ice cream van turns up. There's also different events going on in the park throughout the year. The bubble party is a favourite with the locals. The park is built on a hill so expect to be walking up and down a hill while visiting here.

Great view of the river and little waterfall
This is really cool, you should combine it with a walk to the Millenium Walkway, it's close by. The river has been artificially turned into a waterfall and the force of the water generates power for the community. I think it was the first community owned and funded of its type in UK. The scenery round about is lovely too with old Victorian railway bridges etc. A wonderful day out 😀
What a wonderful amenity, and tourist attraction to the beautiful Sett Valley and Torrs Hydro country walks. Though it appears to have had teething troubles in the past, it is currently (pardon the pun!) showing a rating of 47Kw and water is gushing over the weir from the rivers Goyt and Sett. A magnificent viewpoint. Well worth a visit. It would be great to see more of these innovations installed elsewhere.
Beautiful old Victorian architecture. Place worth visiting. Lovely walk.
Love that a hydro scheme has been put here, apparently supplies electricity to the Co-op supermarket above!
Such a great place for a family walk!
good place for family outings
I've been going to the tours for many years now and it is a place of mystery and beauty ,,never get bored and great for the kids to play and run a round, or if your a climbing buff then you can climb the cliffs with safety of course..

Visited here last week and popped in for a drink. They do tea/coffee/hot chocolate and a small selection of other drinks. Limited food but they do offer tea cakes, toast or crumpets. Decent value for money and a nice little place to stop for a brew. The person who served us was lovely. A small amount of seating and a few things to look at inside the centre, including the wonderful railway in the back room. There’s also a toilet. Will definitely visit again.
Up hill put of town. Little use to tourism as hidden away. Only useful for toilets. Open Thursday to Saturday so not massively useful. Went to buy Derbyshire Wayfarer tickets as advertised on website. Staff had no idea what they were..totally useless. Waste of money.
Such a great facility and bonus for the park.
Although there’s not that much I love it here and my kids do too.

A perfect representation of community theatre and all that it embodies. A truly valued asset that is kept vibrant, modern and popular by all that support and maintain the building. Accessibility is great and cares for its older members. A centre point for home grown, natured talent that is of a professional standard in all aspects of theatre from stage, performance, lighting and backstage. I encourage all to visit, support in any way you can. A real jewel nestled in the High Peak.
Just back from taking our 84 year old mum to watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, we absolutely loved it, brilliant cast, superb music and fantastic singing. So good she wants to go again! They even had a real Chitty Chitty Bang Bang too which flew! Awesome direction and production, just a great evening, don’t miss what is an absolute masterpiece of entertainment.
Pinked Floyd were honoured to perform for a second time at this beautifully looked after theatre in the heart of High Peak. The stage crew are so kind and accommodating and the audience of New Mills very welcoming - we shall be back if you'll have us!
An absolute hidden gem in New Mills, who knew?! Love this theatre. Had the pleasure of watching loads of brilliant shows here ❤️ Highly recommend.
Today is the first day I have been to New Mills Art Theatre, I took my grandson and his Dad to see Sleeping Beauty. I found it to be a lovely, and very welcoming place. Very well kept, great staff, who I presume are mostly volunteers. The production was great, the cost very reasonable too. It was a really nice gesture, that sweets were handed to the children attending at the finale, (sweets made at the nearby Swizzles factory. During the interval we bought ice cream, it's amazing and made in New Mills, which I thought was good. Well done New Mills, for supporting each others businesses!
I feel extremely lucky to have a venue such as this on our doorstep. Gone are the days where most towns had their own theatre or cinema. But magically this one stood firm. It moved with the times and worked with the community. Its kept it's traditional features, which adds to the experience. A dash of nostalgia and a pinch of regal class. The staff are amazing and very accommodating. They went above and beyond to accommodate my daughters (she has autism) needs. Making what could have been an awful experience into an amazing one. I wish all places were as autism aware and autism friendly :-)
The staff I saw here were all volunteers. They were lovely people who went above and beyond. In fact on the way there, I saw a woman running down the street. About 30 minutes later, I saw her at the venue. It was one of the volunteers, she had just run to the shop to buy ice for us. The snacks and drinks were great prices. I would have expected to pay vastly inflated prices at a theatre, as I normally do but I didn't spend as much as expected, leaving me spare money to buy merchandise plus give a donation on the way out. The theatre was clean and comfortable and being quite small, everybody had a great view of the show
Yesterday was my first ever time going to this theatre amazing theatre I came to see Shrek outstanding performance from start to finish it's the best show I've seen in a long time I'm planning on going back next year to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Elf the Musical and the staff there are great to however whoever designed Thelonious costume needs to redesign it of the obvious i won't comment on here what it is

It’s one of my favourite place and the best one to walk in autumn or summer. I can’t even take my eyes off from the eye catching views around. The Torrs Riverside Park is a place which surprise you by its impressive nature beauty. The post-industrial landscape mixed with the dramatic natural features makes the Park a must-see place. The Millennium Walkway is extra addition in the area to make it astonishing. This beautiful bridge is situated alongside of river and a huge wall which is another perfect place for photographers to get the best scenic views. Its one of the must visit place in New Mills.
A great little 'secret garden ' in a valley running between the old and New parts of New Mills. Enjoy drinks in the Torrside brewery with a waterfall view. Watch or join in with the freestyle climbing ( if you are brave and experienced). Have a picnic next to the ruins of an old mill. Or start and end one of the many circular walks from here.
Lovely place to wander round with kids or dogs. Plenty of water. Some wall climbers frequent the place. There's lots of interesting history to it and its only a shirt walk from the car park and main high street. Not good for wheelchairs or the infirm as it's a steep cobbly path and steps to it. Beautiful spot for a picnic though.
A really great place for a walk especially with our dog. We tend to do the llama farm loop then back along the canal towpath towards Swizzles before heading towards the Rock Inn & down the path back to the riverside park. Other alternatives include keeping on the path past the llama farm to Cowgill farm then cross the road to the footpath under the railway line up to a bridleway which gives options to go to the road & down towards Hare and Hounds or carry on to Big Stone...(see photos)
Am absolutely stunning riverside walk alongside the river goyt through the gorge. Industrial heritage everywhere , waterfalls , beautiful bridges , and a lovely bar/coffee stop. All in the heart of new mills. It's a real must see
Lovely hike, good for all fitness levels including families with strollers. Definitely will recommend it for anyone around. No toilets so be prepared.
Lovely walks definitely be going again
A great walk along the bank and walkway. Really nice and chilled out. Even the possibility to do some bouldering as well for those that feel brave enough. A bit overgrown perhaps for a picnic especially as not all dogwalkers seem bothered to clean up after their pets.

Loved the place. Super staff super beer right next to Newtown station - they have wooden casks too ! Quite simply the best drinking establishment in New Mills. Check hours before visiting though as its usually only Friday / Saturday nights during the summer. Thank you all a very decent last drink before my train back to Stockport, in retrospect should have stayed longer 💗💗
Had a brilliant evening at Torrside Brewery. They hosted a cheese and beer tasting evening through a partnership with the Cheese Wheel, which is another small business in New Mills. Great setting and atmosphere, amazing beer and cheese, plus we were guided to understand the pairings and how to appreciate them, alongside background information about the products. All in all a great evening.
Had a fantastic time at the Christmas Brewery tap 🍻🍺 especially loved the Monster Series👍
Excellent place to sample an extensive range of unique beers. Friendly staff.
Happy 10th Birthday! Everyone should come and try the vast range of beers on offer.
Found your beer at one of our trails. This was one of best I've ever drink. Smell of Sto Lat is great. Porter was dark as moonless night. Hope will get a chance to drink it again. Thanks
Consistently smashing out amazing beers. Alongside Thirst Class (sadly no more) the best beers I've had
I'm a big fan of Torrside Brewing beers for a while now. I've finally decided to visit brewery. Very positive experience, huge range of beers and really good prices!

We had discovered this Mill on a walk around New Mills and took the decision to have our wedding here. Those from the Mill were great to work with, making suggestions on how we might place everything on the day as well as help with catering and drinks selections. The venue its self is such an interesting place and is great for photos. This place is worth checking for a coffe, a beer or even a wedding! A big thanks to Rob, Emma, Harry and team! Chris and Lara
Great location, interesting heritage, easy walk to town through streets or use the milennium walkway down to the river. Plenty of free parking for guests and visitors. Nice bar too serving (limited) menu and hosting events.
Light Up The Torrs – A Truly Special Evening My husband and I went to Light Up The Torrs on October 18th and honestly, it was one of the most memorable local events I’ve been to in a long time. The whole experience felt magical — from the moment we entered the trail, it was clear how much care and creativity had gone into it. The walk through The Torrs was transformed with beautiful light and fire installations that really brought the landscape to life. There were softly glowing lanterns, colourful lights woven through the trees, and dramatic uplighting on the cliffs that made everything feel otherworldly. One of my favourite parts was seeing the Millennium Walkway lit up with the mill being showcased at its absolute best — it had this gentle, dreamlike glow that made crossing it feel special. There were also interactive fire displays and sculptural light pieces that added a sense of wonder and surprise around every corner. It was clear that the installations were designed not just to impress, but to complement the natural beauty of the area. After the trail, the atmosphere at Torr Vale Mill Car Park was warm and lively, with live music, food stalls, and lots of people just enjoying the evening together. It felt like a real celebration of community and creativity. We are so glad we went — it was a brilliant way to spend an autumn evening, and recommend it to anyone who gets the chance to attend in future. Five stars from us – a magical, well-organized event and huge congratulations to the Torr Vale team!!
We attended a wedding reception here and it was stunning. Just the right setting and atmosphere without being stuffy or pretentious. We were lucky with the weather and sat outside under the lights, eating stone baked pizza and listening to people laughing and enjoying themselves and it was just perfect. Exactly what a wedding reception should be.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What a gorgeous spot for a wedding! I had the pleasure of hosting a ceilidh and running the PA for a celebration at Torr Vale Mill , and honestly – what a gem of a venue. The staff were absolute stars – friendly, organised and on it from start to finish. Even though Storm Amy was blowing a right hoolie outside 🌬️, everyone inside was warm, happy, and dancing the night away. The couple had a fantastic ceilidh, and it couldn’t have been a better setting to celebrate their big day. If you’re after a wedding venue that’s full of character, charm and lovely people – Torr Vale Mill has it all! Slàinte Mhath, Schuggie ---
Amazing venue and view but despite disabled access, it'll really help if you can cope with steps. They're quite steep. Really helpful staff
We had our wedding here and had an amazing day. The Tap Room is also excellent for a lovely drink with a great view.
Attended the launch of the High Peak walking festival on 18/9/25. It was everything positive you would expect, the staff from the mill offered a tour of the building which many of us were fortunate to take advantage of.
