We did the one day tour from Putre to Lauca National Park. We only stopped in Putre to do this tour. The guide was punctual and on time and stopped whenever we wanted to take photos. He also answered our questions and checked we understood given our language barriers. But he didn’t offer up much information at all. However he took us to the CONAF office of the park and there the Ranger gave us a great little tour along the path beside the lake. We thought he might of done this because the guide spoke excellent English but we noticed the guide met all private cars as well. Then we drove along the desert route back to Putre stopping at all the CONAF points along the way and a stop in Parinacota to see the cute little church. It was a stormy rainy day but still spectacular scenery. One of our sons had a cold but he wanted to come but just stay in the car. We then returned to Putre for lunch and the tour finished. We don’t know if the tour finished early because our son was sick or that was the end - but it would have been nice to have been asked. Honestly, we felt like this was only a little more than hiring a car and doing it ourselves, especially as the best info we got was from the CONAF Ranger and the best part of the tour is the beautiful scenery. You can also see most of this scenery when you come from La Paz on the bus, which we did the day before (but of course you can’t stop and enjoy it).

Breakfast is reasonably good, though it’s served rather late: officially from 07:30, but in practice they only start preparing it at that time, so it’s usually closer to 08:00 before everything is ready. For travelers planning an early start to Lauca National Park, this can be a bit inconvenient. English is not spoken here, but communication is still possible with some patience. Payment by card is accepted, which is very practical in a small town like Putre.

Sadly we just cannot say much good about this place. The website is a scam representing what the lodge was, maybe, under previous owners. It simply is not representative of what is offered and the nightly prices are way too high for what you get here. There is no tranquility, no comfort, no warmth, no plentiful breakfast. The owners are no longer Italian, there are no tours offered and the lodging is extremely basic even in the rooms that are updated. Some rooms have safes, others do not. The staff were pleasant, and we were shown a map of the area and an outline of things to do, most of which we knew about from prior research on Google. The staff do not prioritize guest comfort and had limited hospitality skills. The lodge does not have gasoline as per the website although they did suggest 3 places in town we might be able to get it. The water is not potable and fresh drinking water is not provided either at breakfast or during the day. Neither is coca tea. It’s badly lit and signed if you arrive after dark, rooms are very small. Breakfast is limited, no fresh brewed coffee, no milk unless requested, and served in an unheated, freezing cold room. The garden is not at all peaceful, or tranquil. The road that runs right by the property and it’s garden, is really busy and noisy. Buses, lorries, army trucks and regular cars go up and down all day. The rooms close to the road are extremely noisy until 11pm and starting again at 5am. The staff is on site but not generally visible, and the reception/office locked after breakfast. No refreshments are provided during the day. No coca tea or hot or cold water

The rooms are nice, clean and quiet with hot shower and heater. Breakfast is good and the Italian owners are very nice and helpful (English spoken too). This is also where you go for a real italian coffee in Putre. They organize tours (not only for guests) and sell their own map with lots of useful tips for Lauca, Vicuña and Surire. Only a handful of rooms, reservation recommended. We could only stay one night, but went the next day for a coffee, the map to vicuña and tips for the way and where to stay after Surire.

We stayed at the lodge for two nights to visit the Lauca national park. The rooms are nicely furnished and comfortable, and thanks to the lodge's backup power generation and water supply we could have hot water and electricity also during the frequent blackouts and outages affecting the rest of Putre. Breakfast is also good, with real italian coffee.
