City park
Valle de la Luna, also known as Valley of the Moon, is a unique area with trails and peculiar rock formations shaped by mountain erosion. The landscape is characterized by its lunar-like appearance, created by a combination of heavy precipitation over the years and soft volcanic soil. Situated near La Paz, this dramatic badland features natural amphitheaters and eroded rock walls that crumble under your fingertips.
Absolutely stunning! 15 min from La Paz South, you have to go and see those incredible landscapes. Between Star Wars and the moon, it's a great site to visit. There are 2 tours, a 15 min and a 45 min one. The 45 min is the best. From the Teleférico green line last stop you can catch a collective bus or grab a cab. The entrance fee is 20 BOB. Totally worth it!

Don’t even think of not going! The geological site is extremely beautiful with breath taking views! It’s a STOP that you need to visit while in La Paz!
Mariana C — Google review
Nice park but not great for cycling. We are around sixty years old and found it too hilly to bike.
Frank L — Google review
I visited Moon valley with a tour group in October 2025. Moon valley has sandstones and clay rich columnar structures and located in the lowest altitude of La Paz. As explained by our tour guide Milena, the origin of name is related to the astronaut Neil Amstrong. He saw a shiny patch on earth from moon and decided to visit the place once he arrived on earth. So that brought him to salt marshes in Bolivia. During the visit he arrived at La Paz valley and noted the present moon valley area. So he called out that it looks like in moon and so came the name Moon Valley 😊 Many foreigners and rich people and those having high blood pressure problems selected moon valley area as their residence because of favorable climatic conditions there. Also altitude sickness is not a big issue in this part. It’s very touristic and well managed by the government. But I still prefer the Animas Valley, which is not very accessible and having less facilities for tourists over Moon Valley 😊
Warshi D — Google review
This place is quite interesting yet a bit bland. Please consider to partner with Sony Pictures Entertainment to get the copyright of Starship Troopers. This place is perfect to be a Starship Troopers theme park. I have so many ideas for it, which not necessarily involves high-tech stuffs.
Yu L — Google review
Interesting place to see, different kind of landscape but don't expect any world wonders. Park is pretty run down and in need of maintenance with holes in the paths and broken bridges.
Niek W — Google review
After reading the reviews, I nearly was discouraged not to go. Some complain of this or that, look take a Trufi(local transport) which will leave you right at the entrance of it for BS3.8 one way and the same to return to downtown La Paz. Thus it is an amazing place. Sit down, take in the sights and enjoy. BS20 to get in, thus 28 Bolivianos at the most it’ll be what it’ll ran you. About $2.05 if that. Water and sunscreen if ya worry about the sun. From La Paz to here it’ll be a tad bit warmer because you’ll be coming down a bit lower than the 3600ish altitude!
Jay — Google review
Stunning views, easy hike, entrance fee is 20bs. There's two trails, total hike is 1 hour

The Witches Market, also known as Mercado de las Brujas, is a unique and intriguing destination in La Paz. Located just a short walk from the hotel, this market offers a wide variety of items associated with strange and occult practices. Visitors can find dried llama fetuses, medicinal herbal remedies, aphrodisiac balms, ritual figurines, and more. The market is particularly known for its dried llama fetuses which are believed to bring good luck and protection.
Great artisanal market. Beautiful local goods such as scarves, bags, clothes in original lama or alpaca wool. Best place to buy souvenirs and to help the local economy. Plus it's a very nice walk to have close to other local attractions. Don't miss it!
Nathalie P — Google review
Visiting the Witches Market in La Paz was such a unique and unforgettable experience. The market is full of fascinating items, from traditional remedies to mystical charms and ritual supplies. Every seller I spoke with was incredibly friendly, patient, and eager to share their knowledge about local witchcraft traditions and spiritual beliefs. Their warm hospitality made exploring even more enjoyable. If you're ever in La Paz, don't miss this magical place-you'll leave with amazing memories and maybe even a special souvenir.
Christian L — Google review
Such a beautiful and interesting place. Filled with vibrant colours and everything you could possible need! Definitely worth a visit!
Ailish C — Google review
The Witches’ Market (Mercado de las Brujas / Mercado de Hechicería) is located around Calles Linares and Jiménez, near the historic district of La Paz, close to San Francisco Church. It’s run primarily by Aymara women (chifreras / yatiri) who sell items for traditional / spiritual practices (herbs, charms, potions, dried animals, etc.). It was designated as Intangible Cultural Heritage of La Paz partly because it is a living expression of cultural and spiritual traditions.
Vakhtang J — Google review
It’s really just a street lined with tourist shops - I wouldn’t call it much of an attraction. There’s a mixture of mass-produced textile crafts (clothing/bags/…), artisan alpaca-based stores, and some bohemian stores selling cultural items (probably the most interesting aspect of the street).
Harry W — Google review
So many stores and little trinkets to take home as gifts and souvenirs. A couple of restaurants there too. Whether you’re looking for local artists with their brand or general souvenirs you’ll definitely find it there
Haneen H — Google review
The Witches’ Market in La Paz is a very unique place! You can find traditional items and it’s a great spot to buy souvenirs and Patagonia jackets.
Leah L — Google review
The Witches’ Market in La Paz is more than a quirky stop — it’s a fascinating insight into Bolivia’s indigenous roots, spiritual beliefs, and traditions that still thrive in modern-day life. It’s weird, wonderful, and one of the most distinctive markets in South America. If you're curious about the mystical or open to the magical, this place will leave a lasting impression.

Great place to walk with significant history, some historical buildings this is known as Plaza Murillo and is located in the old town, Casco Viejoa and serves as the heart of Bolivia's political life. The plaza is surrounded by significant buildings such as the Presidential Palace, the National Congress of Bolivia, and the Cathedral of La Paz. It was originally named Plaza Mayor and later Plaza de Armas but it was renamed in honor of Pedro Murillo, a hero of Bolivia's independence. It’s a very vibrant place.

I was there by 7 am on a Saturday. It was not crowded. The church was open to public and it was amazing.
Warshi D — Google review
This is the central square of La Paz. It is a wide open space, always busy and crowded with people. The traffic is heavy and the commerce non stop. It is the place where political protests gather. The basilica of San Francisco de Assisi is its most iconic building. It was built between the 16th and 17th century in Andean Baroque style.
Andreas K — Google review
Pretty enough but hardly world class in comparison to others
SB — Google review
Located in the historic center of La Paz, it's a beautiful building, surrounded by other cultural places and local traditional food. The city is really high above sea level, so take it slow, is difficult to do common stuff even walk and breath sometimes, so drink a lot of water and tea. @Aventure.dos

Cholitas Wrestling, also known as Show Popular, is a lively and theatrical wrestling event featuring indigenous Aymara women known as Cholitas. These feisty females showcase their physical prowess in flamboyant costumes while engaging in high-energy bouts complete with somersaults, high kicks, and dramatic hair-pulling.
It’s absolutely an amateur level but I can’t deny I was thoroughly entertained throughout and it got weirder and weirder! Great way to spend your afternoon/evening. It’s of course quite touristy but you feel safe throughout and I felt it was value for money.
Robin W — Google review
Overall brilliant fun, they play the parts really well with loads of audience interaction. Sellers roam the floor with beers and the wrestlers make you feel very engaged. Odd they make you take your seats before grabbing the free popcorn and soda, so you have to get up again mid-show.
Niall M — Google review
Can be a fun, entertaining time if you have some spare hours in a Sunday afternoon and willing to travel a bit from La Paz to El Alto. The show is somehow custom-made for first-timers in Bolivia but all in all it's something you can add on you wishlist while around the capital.
Nicolae B — Google review
I really didn`t expect much from this. I thought it was a tourist trap. Well, in a way it is but it`s surprisingly fun, even if you don`t care for show wrestling. It`s something to see once. My only regret is not bringing ear plugs. It was LOUD.
Lucas K — Google review
I loved my experience there!!! Their creativity and skills during the show are amazing. This is a staged show like WWE for those who don't know about it. Still, it was one of the most entertaining presentations I ever seen in my life. The entrace fee varies from 60 to 80 bolivianos and it's recommended to make a reservation in advance. It's easy to get there using one of the cable cars. Once you are there, you can pay an extra 10 bolivianos to get a bus ticket to bring you back home. Just check with them the neighborhoods covered by the bus.
Deric ( — Google review
⚠️Warning! I initially wanted to give this experience 5 stars—until I was attacked. The wrestling show ended at 7 PM. After that, many guests (mostly tourists) went on stage to have fun and take photos. A while later, some men in wrestling attire also stepped onto the stage. Suddenly, one of them directly attacked me while I was trying to take a photo. This was not part of the show—he wasn’t just playing around. It was genuinely painful, and I got hurt. This is absolutely ridiculous! How rude and disrespectful of that guy!
CHUN-HUNG C — Google review
Such a great show! We had so much fun! The venue is super cool and unique in design. The entire event is well put together by staff, with the bus pick off and drop off by your hostel. You can tell it is well run. The cholitas are amazing and they really put on a show. If you’re visiting La Paz, would recommend checking out Cholita Wrestling.
Kristin W — Google review
Such an incredible experience!!!! A MUST DO in La Paz - be warned - audience participation is highly encouraged, so you may get a wrestler or two thrown in your lap or be brought into the ring to referee a match (like I was)!!! Soooo fun!!!! Muchissimas gracias to all the wrestlers!!!!

Mirador Killi Killi is a popular hilltop destination in La Paz, Bolivia, offering stunning panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. It is known for its dramatic vistas and scenic gardens, making it a favorite spot for locals to unwind or enjoy romantic moments. The viewpoint holds historical significance as it served as the headquarters during an indigenous siege in 1781.
Waaah such a beautiful place to see all of La Paz!! Would recommend going there around 5:30 and staying until 7 so you can see both the sunset and the lights at night!!!! Nice place for a lil picnick too I would say :)
Eva W — Google review
Great viewpoint for shots of the city. I'm not sure how safe the wall back would be at night, but getting there during the day was not an issue and I was able to take Uber back down. It is not a long walk to get to the viewpoint, but there is a fair elevation gain so if you have not acclimated yet you may want to consider having a car drop you off.
Parker V — Google review
Lovely mirador with a 360° view over La Paz. Resting area too so you can rest a little after climbing there and have a glance on the city. Definitely worth it!
Nathalie P — Google review
Things to Keep in Mind The climb up is quite steep; given La Paz’s high altitude, taking a taxi or cable car part-way may be wise if you aren’t acclimatised. Mirador Killi Killi is one of the best lookout points in La Paz. The view of the city and surrounding Andes is breathtaking. We took a taxi up to avoid the steep climb, arrived around sunset and stayed until dusk — the city lights and colors of the sky were unforgettable. Bring a jacket and water, and allow about 30-45 minutes to take it all in. Highly recommended for a short stop while exploring La Paz. “Killi Killi” comes from a small bird of prey (falco sparverius) that once inhabited the area. The site served as a vantage and control point during the 1781 siege of La Paz by indigenous leader Tupac Katari.
Vakhtang J — Google review
Great viewpoint right in the middle of the city!!! It's interesting to see the views of La Paz from the cable cars but from this viewpoint it is different because you are right in the middle of the city, surrounded by the populated mountains in the area. If you are in Sopocachi or nearby neighborhoods, it will be a small 25-40 minutes walk to reach the viewpoint. It is not necessary to pay an entry fee even though there were signs with prices. Nobody was working there to enforce the payment of a ticket. This place is good to visit after exploring the area around the plaza San Francisco.
Deric ( — Google review
Astonishing! Take a Trufi up there or walk it up, either way, a well kept and beautiful sighting of La Paz at nearly 360° all around. Enjoy!
Jay — Google review
A big walk straight up to get to the Mirrador but unreal views once you get there. A bunch of benches to sit on, a quiet chill spot. I have no doubt the sunrise or sunset would be amazing. When you see the street art below you are getting close to the Mirrador.

Jaén, a charming street in La Paz, is a delightful journey back in time. This beautifully preserved colonial area boasts stunning 18th-century architecture that now houses an array of boutiques and galleries, including the vibrant works of Aymara artist Mamani Mamani. Visitors can explore five small museums with a single ticket, showcasing everything from ancient musical instruments to pre-Colombian gold artifacts.
What a beautiful and historic street said to be haunted by the ghosts of former slaves to the Spanish. Apart from a nice place to take photos, the street is lined with dozens of tourist offices
David M — Google review
Beautiful street with a few museums around. Loved the paved street
Roger G — Google review
One of the better-preserved parts of the colonial area of La Paz, Jaen Street retains the old cobbled stones and houses dating back to the 18th century. Many of these houses are now museums, and the street is home to five of La Paz’s most important museums: Museo de Metales Preciosos, Museo del Litoral, Museo Casa de Murillo, and Museo Costumbrista Juan de Vargas. These four museums are included in a single ticket that you can purchase at Museo Costumbrista and start your visit from there. The fifth museum is the Museo de Instrumentos Musicales. All five museums can be visited in a day due to their size and proximity. You have a 48-72 hour time window to visit the four municipal ones included in a single ticket, so be sure to check the timetables as opening times vary.

Colonial street filled with museums.
Brock S — Google review
This is La Paz’s best preserved colonial street and one of the most touristic destinations in the city. It houses four museums that they are located one next to the other, in fantastic buildings of colonial architecture. One of these museums is the Casa de Murillo, the house of Pedro Domingo Murillo, the leader in the La Paz Revolution of 1809, that was hanged by the conquistadors where is now the Plaza Murillo. The museum displays collections of colonial art, furniture and household items of Bolivian aristocracy. It is also worth visiting the Mamani Mamani Gallery, of the homonym famous Aymaran artist, who's work has been exhibited all over the world and it's well known for his use of indigenous tradition and symbols.

Surrounded by stunning colonial architecture, this historic plaza is home to significant landmarks such as the Presidential Palace and the National Congress. The intricate facades and historical significance of these buildings offer visitors a glimpse into Bolivia's rich political and cultural heritage.
Ground zero of Bolivian politics, with the Presidential Palace and National Congress host here in some historic colonial buildings. Also a very beautiful cathedral is found in La Plaza and the open space around this square is very well guarded 24 hrs/day with plenty of military units and special police forces. The surrounding streets can be a nice surprise for visitors, with another main attractions of La Paz, starting from museums, mercados, boutique-shops, clubs, theaters, different churches and different impressive buildings.

Great to people watch and see Camino market 0km. Pigeons are pretty out of control, circa London 1985. Buildings of modern and old are mixed, changing of guards also possible to see. Only downside some off characters around, valuables as usual keep them close.

South American restaurant
Gustu, which means "flavor" in Quechua, is a must-visit gourmet restaurant in La Paz, Bolivia. The restaurant not only offers beautifully plated dishes but also takes pride in highlighting exclusively Bolivian products supplied directly by small producers from indigenous rural communities. It serves as a platform for local talents and operates as a socially-committed enterprise.
Everything here was first-class. I am so glad I ate here! My group of three had diverse dietary requests, which made everything complicated. The staff handled our needs expertly. The food was attractive and delicious. The open kitchen was spotlessly clean. The servers were knowledgeable and efficient. I was glad to learn more about Bolivian ingredients.
John E — Google review
We did the 13 (I think) course tasting menu. Cocktail was nice. They offered me a taste of two wines before I selected which I thought was a nice touch. The food was hit and miss and a bit too out there for me. For example, one dish was a whole crab or some kind of shellfish 🦞, I did not want to crunch the thing whole so I just ate the cracker. Next was the alligator meat served in an almond/cheesy milk sauce. It did not work. Not sure if it’s the aligator meat or the combo but I didn’t like it. The ‘surprise’ dish turned out to be cow tongue and brain which I would have preferred to know in advance. That being said, the tongue aspect was nice - the brain part was not. I could barely get any meat off the pigeon. The ice cream flavour combination did not work, a bit sour. The other dishes were nice, I especially liked the onion appetiser and the pear palate cleanser. Service was good, everyone was friendly and helpful; some of the descriptions could have been delivered a little slower for tourists but they did their best in their second language. The view into the kitchen was nice and I enjoyed watching them work. The kitchen staff were taking great care to plate every thing up nicely. I think for the price point, the food and flavours here needs to be better balanced and reliable.
Cara D — Google review
Gustu was an amazing dinning experience. We had the full tasting menu with wine and cocktail pairing. The attentive service with both Spanish and English explanations was excellent! One of the dishes is served without an explanation because they want you to explain it after tasting it 😲😂
Hitesh B — Google review
Gustu is Bolivia's answer to world' best gastronomy collective. They use indigenous ingredients freshly prepared in art form marrying up the best of taste and texture. Excellent Bolivian wines are on their menu too. Beautiful decor and ambience compliment the whole presentation. The knowledge and attentiveness by the staff is world class. If one is in Bolivia, one must make Gustu an intentional visit. Price wise, one gets comparable European experience for a third of what one would pay in Europe.
A L — Google review
Excellent restaurant marked by professionalism and creativity. The menu is a celebration of the Amazon (the alligator ceviche is positively astonishing), crafted by the staff from a completely open kitchen. You can truly see the passion, attention to detail, and high standards. The cocktails offered as pairings are also very good. Outside the restaurant, there is a small garden where the kitchen sometimes harvests ingredients to incorporate directly into the dishes.
David M — Google review
Eating here was a spiritual experience. I have to admit, I cried a little after eating one of the dishes. So many new flavors from unique local ingredients, I also had a great view of the kitchen with deceptively young chefs. Eat here now before it becomes prohibitively expensive!
John C — Google review
Mandatory for whoever enjoys authentic wine and food pairings, this restaurant paints a picture of Bolívia in wine and food. Brilliant interpretations of local gastronomy. Just excellent.
Ricardo G — Google review
If you’re looking for extraordinary value for money and extraordinary food, then you must book a table at Gustu. Proudly showcasing Bolivian produce and know-how, together with flawless Noma-esque precision and technique, this meal will be remembered for a long time. I was just a bit disappointed the last savoury dish (rabbit) had a fish flavour - I usually love rabbit and the texture of the meat was divine, but one single bite made me gag (I don’t eat fish / seafood). I really appreciated the lovely replacements to fish / seafood dishes they made for me btw. Service was professional and friendly (though struggling in English), premises are arty and interesting.

Vegetarian restaurant
Nestled in the vibrant heart of La Paz, Ali Pacha is a culinary gem that beautifully embodies its name, which translates to "the universe of plants" in Aymara. This innovative vegan restaurant offers an exquisite fine dining experience that stands out not just locally but across South America.
The food is absolutely outstanding, beyond words. World class, no doubt about it. Each dish beautifully presented and the taste and texture out of this world. This is an experience not to be missed.

Beautiful restaurant & wonderful service! Waiters spoke English and explained each dish very well. All food was vegetarian and we chose the extended menu and had 11 different plates! A few were incredible and really wowed us! And others weren’t so special. We had a wonderful experience otherwise and had a really interesting wine as well!
Paige K — Google review
This was a very welcome stop on my La Paz trip. I ate here twice. The service was competent. I was very glad the menu featured Bolivian food and wine. Most of the dishes on my 5-course meals were very good. Only one was great: a tomato sorbet with burnt cinnamon. On my second visit (Friday night,) they said they couldn’t open a bottle of wine, since the restaurant is closed on weekends.
John E — Google review
I was looking forward to discovering this restaurant for christmas night, drawn in by the enthusiastic reviews and recommendations, but I left quite disappointed, perhaps because I'm not a vegetarian. Although the chef’s creativity and his desire to combine flavors were evident, I found that almost all the dishes lacked depth in terms of taste. There was a clear intention to innovate, but something seemed to be missing in every plate, with the notable exception of the vegetable tartare, which was truly perfect. My companion also particularly enjoyed the last dessert. We opted for the 10-course surprise menu with wine pairings, for a total of $170 USD ( obviously very expensive compared to the wine pairing) for two people. At this price, and after dining in restaurants offering impeccable gastronomic quality for less than $35 (2 entrances + 2 plate + 2 cocktails) for two like Manqu’a Restaurant. I expected a top-tier culinary experience. Perhaps my expectations were too high, after enjoying excellent meals elsewhere in La Paz. However, it’s worth mentioning that the service was impeccable: attentive, professional, and pleasant, which certainly made our meal more enjoyable.

Vegan restaurant
Namas Té is a cozy and vibrant vegetarian restaurant located in Sopocachi, offering a global menu with plenty of vegan options. The restaurant's snug and rustic ambiance provides the perfect escape to enjoy a four-course vegetarian feast at an affordable price. With friendly service and homemade food, including options for vegans, Namas Té is a welcoming spot to savor delicious meals. Originally established as a tea shop, it has evolved into a vegetarian eatery due to slow growth.
I had the most amazing lunch here. The food is soo flavoursome. I my self am not a vegetarian or vegan, at no point was I missing meat. The prices are very reasonable and the food is outstanding. It gets full quickly, I got there as they started the lunch menu and before I had finished, all the tables were taken. The service is polite and friendly and as you expect from a top establishment. The lunch menu is only 30bs per person for a three course meal. I would choose to eat here over places in or around the witches market as it's much better quality and a lot cheaper and only a stones throw away. Menu items are cooked to order and fresh food.

I got the menu of the day which was traditional Bolivia food on Monday. Everything was okay and it was a fair price. The staff was really friendly and speaks good English
Guiping X — Google review
We loved this place - one of our faves in La Paz. Amazing veggie mains, salads and smoothies using stunning Bolivian produce (which we’d just spent time admiring in the markets), and just what we needed for a healthy lunch on our travels! The summer rolls and choco banana smoothie were particularly good. There is a menu of the day which is ready to serve, and an a la carte menu which is cooked to order so takes a bit more time, but we enjoyed a bit of downtime and the food was 100% worth it - an oasis of chill in the La Paz chaos! Owner was so friendly too. Go!

Good place for who love plant- based . So many options . I had menu of the day . It’s good.

Absolutely fantastic food, so delicious. Couldn't recommend this place anymore. Everything we had was exceptional. 10/10

Very nice yet affordable vegetarian restaurant. We all just had the menu of the day, plus masala tea (very good!). Nice artwork and indoor murals, too! 👍

Great vibe, lovely service and delicious food. We were so dehydrated and felt so refreshed after, would love to come back

Amazing place, a little room in the front and slot of space in the back, make sure to lock at the whole place, great vibe. Lunch deals are great, rest of the menu also. The service is very friendly. Many healthy food and also Bolivian vegatrien/vegan classics. Recommended!

Coffee shop
Hb Bronze Coffeebar is a charming and cozy café located inside the historic Casona Patino building in La Paz. This high-end coffee bar specializes in roasting altitude coffees and offers a variety of brewing methods such as Chemex and Aeropress. The menu features unique Bolivian sandwiches on sourdough focaccia, charcuterie including llama charqui and salami, local cheese plates, and heartier dishes with Andean ingredients.
Hip, modern coffee bar in central La Paz that I visited several times. Decor and service are wonderful. They speak English here. Food is excellent and they really care about the sourcing of their ingredients, which are all Bolivian. This place caters toward western standards and prices. They even sell wine!
Qi Y — Google review
Incredible place. Amazing decor, great service, good coffee. The quality, service, and atmosphere are reflected in the price; very expensive!
Martin R — Google review
YOU MUST TRY TARTAR DE LLAMA!!! One of the best things I’ve ever eaten. It almost melts in your mouth. The other food was also good but that was a stand out winner. The coffee was good and I loved the aesthetic of this place too. Staff were lovely! Worth the price.
Laura X — Google review
The place has a fenomenal atmosphere and decoration. Waiters are not experienced and not welcoming. The menu was missing 30% of the dishes and only a small amount if the cakes. We ordered 2 capuccinos, one carrot cake and one sandwich de lomo. Capuccinos arrived cold and hat to send the back to warm them. The carrit cake was good. The sandwich was terrible. Meat was overcooked and old. It was cold with soggy bread. Seemed like it was done 7 hrs ago with meat cooked days ago and definitely not sirloin. Very hard and chewy. Took a bite and had to return it. Staff did not agree and pushed to do the full charge, which show the lack of experience and no customer service training. Terrible experience and overpriced
Rodrigo P — Google review
Perfect coffee, service, atmosphere! I’m satisfied with everything here. I ordered lemonade, which tasted like a mojito. It was awesome! My friend ordered iced coffee and I had a sip of it. It was one of the best black coffee I’ve ever had!! I highly recommend this place❤️ Staffs here are also very nice :)
Sh S — Google review
Excellent brunch at Hb coffeebar this morning. Some of the best food we’ve had in South America, and delicious barista made coffee! The environment is sophisticated and quiet with thoughtful artistic decor. On the pricier side for La Paz but worth it for the taste, experience and service!
Milonee S — Google review
Really good coffee and nice sandwich’s, on the pricier side but lovely atmosphere
Rosie S — Google review
Attended for lunch and had the chicken sandwich and the pesto sandwich. The chicken sandwich was so good, very tender and the bread was delicious. The pesto sandwich was nice but a touch greasy. The ice tea was incredible. The service was fantastic and the place is beautiful. The frappe was good, not the best but good. The prices are quite high for the city but it is a really nice place.

Nestled in the vibrant culinary scene of La Paz, Propiedad Pública is a delightful eatery that showcases the artistry of homemade Italian cuisine. Founded by talented Bolivian chef Gabriella Prudencio, who honed her skills at Gustu and the Culinary Institute of America, this charming spot specializes in fresh pastas and sauces that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. The menu features an array of inventive vegetable dishes alongside classic Italian favorites, all crafted with care.
I ADORE this restaurant. My partner and I came here two separate times on a Sunday for lunch and Sunday evening for dinner. The staff are absolutely amazing. Both the times we went it was the same two waiters and they have the best service of any restaurant I’ve been to. The food is fantastic. They do a lot of vegetarian options which I appreciated and the choice to have half pastas so me and my partner basically had a little pasta tapas going on trying them all! All the pasta was cooked to perfection with gorgeous sauces. The fresh focaccia to start is a nice touch too. They have a really nice selection of Bolivian wines and beers. Honestly the best experience we had in Bolivia!
Iona T — Google review
Excellent food with tons of flavor. Friendly staff. Great atmosphere, playing classics like Ella Fitzgerald, Buena Vista Social Club artists Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo. Corazones de la Señorita (butter lettuce), Mezzaluna, Caprese salad with watermelon, Gnudi, carrots, and Duo Kale are a few of my favorites.
Richard M — Google review
I’ve eaten here three times and I always have a great experience. The mixed drinks are very well done and the scratch-made pasta is the best in La Paz.
Alan S — Google review
Great food! I was very pleasantly surprised. Trout was well cooked, very seasoned, and everything else was up to par including a nice aubergine purée. Not to expensive either.
Carlos O — Google review
Had dinner at this restaurant last night. Perfectly clean and neat inside. Would be easy to miss due to lack of sign outside. We all shared four different salads; my favorite was kale with Parmesan cheese. The main course I had was made of yuka and mushrooms with cheese. Would order it again. My husband liked his pork belly with green beens. Definitely check it out.
Indira B — Google review
Service was good, nice environment. They have specials of the day. Raviolis where great and drinks too. Not large menu some pastas, one dish of fish, meet, chicken, pork and salads. Unfortunately we found a hair and they just apologized and charged for the dish. Not a good solution for the problem.
Samuel R — Google review
I would totally recommend this place! And even though Propiedad Publica is known for their pastas I’d encourage you to always always always try a salad there: they’re simply the best! Also never leave without getting a chocolate pudding.. might sound simple enough but the flavors are WOW and just leave you wanting more. If you’re lucky enough to visit this place in MANDARINA- season: getting a soda is a MUST!
Adriana V — Google review
Good flavors, but my husband left hungry. For over 60 bolivianos, my husbands plate was incredibly small. The Gnudi was good flavor but gummy and was like a serving for a child. I mean so small we were shocked! This was the most expensive meal we had while in La Paz, and the price to value ratio was ridiculous. Also the servers seemed like they were doing us a favor taking our order and then never returned.

Paceña La Salteña

Mentioned on

South American restaurant
Paceña La Salteña is a must-visit for food enthusiasts and linguists alike. This eatery in the heart of La Paz offers traditional Bolivian empanadas known as salteñas, which are similar to Cornish pasties. These savory pastries were supposedly brought to Bolivia by an Argentine woman from the province of Salta, hence the name.
Loved the Salteñas! Tried 3 different ones and they were all good! Local place with very few tourists when I went.
Ricardo A — Google review
Decent salteñas for a fair price. I got the combo meal which was 2 salteñas, a juice, and a dessert for 32. Place appears pretty popular
Guiping X — Google review
Read online that the spicy beef salteña was really good so went to try it. It was not bad but I preferred the fricase salteña. There are some options only available Friday to Sunday.
Sanjay B — Google review
I consider saltenas like a Bolivian version of xiaolongbao. You’re supposed to try to eat it without spilling the juice inside. The hard crust contrasted with the juicy center is the perfect early morning bite. Try the spicy one as well!
Qi Y — Google review
A low-key place that is popular with the locals. We tried carne, carne picante, pollo and vegetarian. All were great and very cheap! Salteñas were fresh and came out very quickly. As we left around 12pm a long line started to form!
Monique F — Google review
We came back twice during our stay in La Paz. Great for lunch with cheap price but super yummy local food! We had almost tried everything here, our favourite are Charque (pulled beef), Carne, Fricase(Pork) Carne and Hoja. The lady in the cashier was super sweet and friendly too.
Tally W — Google review
Simple, fast casual joint for salteñas. You seat yourself and they come around with menus and take your order. We got two combos - two salteñas + a drink + dessert for 28 or 30 bolivianos (depending on the type of drink), an extra salteña and a coffee. Favorite salteñas were pollo and carne picante, but all of them were tasty! Skip the coffee. Service is friendly, there was some confusion at the end with payment (which is done at the counter by the door), but they eventually figured it out.
Joycelin W — Google review
Great vegan saltenas (menu says vegetarian but the filling consists of vegetables)! We basically ate here every day during our time in La Paz :) also recommend the carrot cake

The restaurant, housed in a converted family home, exudes a warm and welcoming atmosphere that keeps locals coming back for more. It offers traditional Bolivian dishes with a fusion twist, prepared with an emphasis on fresh and local ingredients. The menu features hearty meat, chicken, and fish dishes combined with flavorful spices and served alongside fresh vegetables.
Great restaurant, one of the best places to eat traditional Bolivian food, the chicharrón de cerdo is the best in town for me, the picante surtido is also perfect.

It is the Best Restaurant for Traditional Exquisite Bolivian Food Exquisite taste. Atmosphere and Service The attention is very personalize
Paul — Google review
The food was much below the average, not fresh and salty old sauce. Service is very good, atmosphere was good. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.
LL. Z — Google review
The restaurant is located on a quiet, safe street. The place is clean and the staff is attentive. They give you complimentary fresh bread and butter+2 types of sauce as well as some tiny delish empanadas. The place is clean and spacious. We stayed outside and it was great. Shade with the umbrellas. The soup plates are very, very, very big. 2 or 3 people can definitely share a soup. The tiramisu was delicious but it was not the classic one, it had a lot of tasty strawberries. The pisco sour was indeed sour and one of the best I've had ( if you like sour) . My friend had trucha and she liked it a lot. Thia restaurant has some good quality Peruvian food.
Andreea T — Google review
Overpriced bolivian dishes. Not much to add. Better invest in a Popular experience that not only brings variety but also a good mix of flavors.

Super tasty true Bolivian food (I got the queso humacha), with sizeable portions. Atmosphere and service were great!
Erin C — Google review
The best restaurant in Lá Paz! Try this food; Picante Surtido!!
Alexandre F — Google review
The place is very pretty, and the staff super nice, patient and helping. The food is decent but not really worth the price. They don't have too many options and the day we went that had run out of three of the things we wanted to order... The dishes I tasted were pretty good, but i wouldn't say they were the best I've had.

Hay Pan is a popular narrow wine bar in La Paz, attracting both locals and travelers with its high-quality wines, craft beers, and cocktails at reasonable prices. The bar also offers tapas and flatbreads to accompany the drinks. The ambiance is hip yet welcoming, often featuring Cuban salsa tunes from a working turntable.
We went to try some wines and enjoy some food and we’re supper happy! They had 3 red wines to taste by the glass and some whites and sparkling as well. We had a small cheese, meat platter and pickles as well as the vegetarian pizza and all were delicious. The waiter was super friendly and knowledgeable I would recommend to any vine lover!
Eva S — Google review
Fantastic wine bar with a cozy atmosphere. The food, wine, and service were all fantastic. I loved that they carried smaller bottles of wine for guests who didn't necessarily want to finish a standard sized bottle.
Lynn P — Google review
A local friend recommended this place to us and it was great. The food was good quality and the selection of wines was impressive. We enjoyed our visit a lot.
Lucas K — Google review
Very nice Bolivian wine bar. Unique in its kind. Near the Mercado de las Brujas. Gabriel organizes tastings for you and tells you all about the wines! Bolivians love sweet wines, luckily they also make very good dry ones. Snacks also very nice! If you’re a wine lover definitely go and check this out.
Alexander F — Google review
Best restaurant in Bolivia. This wine bar / Bolivian tapas bar is something really special in La Paz, a totally different concept to the other poor quality places in the area. When we arrived we were welcomed by a young manager whom spoke perfect English and explained the concept of how they only use Bolivia products direct from farmers and all the wine is from Bolivian producers. The concept is to give you a checklist menu that you write the amount of each dish you want they have around 30-40 dishes all tapas size. They also have a tasting platter for 2 people that gives you a great section of the menu it’s well worth the money. It will be around $10 a person including a bottle of wine. I can honestly say this is the best restaurant I visited in La Paz the attention to detail quality gives it a European standard that would not be out of place in Paris or London. I’m so impressed. well done to the team... P.s: just a quick note there is no obvious sign outside the restaurant so it’s a little difficult find but just look at my photo below for the glass door.

Very good breakfast in this place. I recommend the complete breakfast or the pan y palta. They accepted to prepare a special kind of tea for me (i bring lemon, ginger and honey and they made it for me).

If you are into wines and want to discover Bolivian wines, this is the place. They have different choices of both glasses and bottles in terms of variety. Owners do not know English but you can talk via translate apps. Food was not too promising. If possible, only go for wine :)

The best Salteñas ever :)!! They are the most expensive ones ($1), but they worth every Penny!

Place is great, big tables and comfortable. Saltenas here are very popular and probably the best Chicken salteña you can eat. They have awesome natural juices (linaza, lemon with milk, lime some of the best). Staff is friendly and once you pay at the register a waitress takes your receipt and gets your order to your table.

Ancestral, located in Zona Sur of La Paz, offers a unique dining experience with its focus on cooking Bolivian ingredients over open fires. The restaurant's underground dining room is warmly decorated and provides the perfect setting for enjoying their 9-course tasting menu paired with a selection of drinks. The chefs at Ancestral, Mauricio Lopez and Sebastian Gimenez, showcase various Bolivian ingredients and master wood-firing cooking techniques to create an unforgettable culinary journey.
Ancestral is my favorite restaurant in La Paz. I highly recommend the tasting menu—it's a multi-course experience featuring creative dishes made with local ingredients, and each course is a feast for the eyes and the palate. They also have a wonderful wine list, with some excellent Bolivian wines that I personally think rival (and maybe even surpass!) the wines from Chile and Argentina. If you're visiting La Paz, Ancestral is a must visit.

Been here twice for dinner. Food is amazing and the service is extremely good. Definitely try their steak and almost all the appetizer choices are worth a try, especially the llama and artichoke heart. Natalia is extremely friendly and gave us good recommendations of places to visit and try while visiting in town. Highly recommended!
Peter H — Google review
Excellent meal here. We had the artichokes to start which were excellent followed by their Churleton beef rib with the bone served with the most amazing potatoes and sugar peas and a fascinating desert: Overall an excellent experience.
Alan J — Google review
An exceptional meal in a beautiful space with superb service. I had the tasting menu and sat directly across from the open kitchen. Each course was well thought out and described amazingly well by my server Jordan. He was able to answer all of my questions and provide recommendations on cocktails that would go well with different courses. Many tasting menus are more for the experience than the actual food, not this one! I left full, happy, and with more knowledge about Bolivia and its food than when I entered.
Virginia W — Google review
We visited Ancestral for the tasting menu, and enjoyed our experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was nice (though overall the space could use some sound treatment, it was occasionally hard to hear the waiter and each other). The menu was diverse and we liked all the dishes, though the accompanying drinks (210Bs extra) definitely helped elevate some of the dishes, particularly the desserts and the romesco. My partner loved everything, and I enjoyed all the courses as well, though personally I thought sometimes the core of some of the dishes was a bit overpowered by the sauces - the llama, trout and the artichoke fell into this category for me. All in all a great evening out, and we‘d definitely come back to experience the development of Ancestral in the future.
Ben N — Google review
Had a fabulous time at Ancestral. The tasting menu was fantastic and our server, Jordan, was extremely knowledgeable. Even more impressive, it was only his second day on the job! The bone marrow crème brute was excellent. Should we visit La Paz again, we will be back!
Stephen S — Google review
Absolutely loved our tasting menu experience here. Great knowledgeable and friendly staff. The dishes were so interesting and had so much flavour, not to rich or creamy so you don’t feel sickly full at the end. It was just perfect. The wine pairings were all Bolivian wines that were delicious and well explained too! Highly recommend!
Anthea S — Google review
A truly memorable dining experience — from the warm hospitality to the beautifully crafted dishes. Every plate was full of flavor and presented with care. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy exceptional cuisine in a welcoming atmosphere.

Transportation in La Paz

Getting around La Paz can be a little daunting if you’re new here. We can help list some of the major public transportation methods if you don’t want to rely on a car.

Nearby airports

El Alto International Airport

International airport
Airport
El Alto International Airport, located in La Paz, is the world's highest international airport at an elevation of 13,323 feet. Travelers should be prepared for the effects of high altitude such as shortness of breath and fatigue. The airport has a modest structure and sees fewer flights compared to other airports. Hygiene aspects like toilets could be improved, and there are strict baggage controls in place. However, the airport is well-organized and not overly busy.
“I can’t breathe,” said Bolivia’s once-revered hero, Scott Lee. It had been five years since he left, and he never thought he’d return—not due to the thin air, but because of the memories of Gemma, his ex-girlfriend, still vivid as ever.
Hyeon R — Google review
It's up the hill from La Paz but not very busy so no rush getting there early. We had an early morning flight and arrived 3 hours ahead and spent at least 1 1/2 hours sitting around. Immigration can be slow since many tourists did not due their visa ahead of time but even so it was only a 45 minute delay. Staff was helpful and there are place for food open 24/7. Plenty of ATMs make it easy to get Bolivianos but we found that the street Cambios gave a much better exchange rate.
James S — Google review
A small sized international airport off La Paz. Facilities are bare minimum but satisfactory. The toilets are clean. The duty free is also well stocked. Before boarding the flight, all hand baggages and the passengers will be sniffed down by the police dogs before boarding the carrier.
PALLAB R — Google review
This airport operates like a mess. There is no clear instruction by staff, people are cutting lines. There is a foreigner with a daughter vomitted, vomitus all over the ground with no one to clean up. Everyone is stepping over and it smells like hell. On the second floor, there are some local cuisine with a reasonable price (first floor ard overpriced) there is subway on second floor as well.
Nathan H — Google review
Using this airport is like going back in time. It’s just stupid on the part of airport management to have toys/items on sale There for higher prices (sometimes twice) than what you get in US airport - 40USD for a neck cushion! Oh and they don’t let you into the terminal before 2 hours!! How do they expect anyone to spend money if they won’t let you in if you arrive at say 3 hours fearing queues and multiple checks. Oh there is also an only QR code form to fill to present along with your boarding pass and passport to get into the international terminal. Lots of lovely cuddly alpaca toys / lamas. The actual cafe inside international terminal is quite tastefully decorated with plug points with each comfy sofa with the plush toys on the shelves around.
B C — Google review
Gong show on arrival. Passengers are required to complete customs declaration form but they are not distributed and there are not pens so passengers are on a wild goose chase to find and complete the forms. Everyone onboard my flight had the entire contents of their baggage searched *on arrival*. Unnecessary delays and pandemonium.
Liam R — Google review
Just landed into here from Uyuni (if you do this flight, sit on left side for incredible views). Airport very easy to navigate, luggage out quickly, minibuses outside to take you to the city for 5 BOB ppn.
K H — Google review
Terrible experience. The airport permits fraudulent actions by airline BOA. Flight oversold, and they give you standby tickets, and send you to the wrong gate. Flight is never announced, and therefore you " loose the plane". The guy in orange is the supervisor organizing all this fraudulent actions. We have written our claim to BOA, but airport is also responsible. Korean agencies are getting priority and leaving other passengers behind. Thanks to this we lost 350 dollars from our tour in Salar, and Hidalgo didn't want to reimburse anything.
