Fabulous overlook full of tourist busses waiting to see condors. Plan on getting there around 8am and plan at least an hour. The condors start rising with the thermals as the sun hits the valley! And they did not disappoint! It was breathtaking to see how big they actually were because they seemed so small down in the canyon, which just shows how deep the canyon is. When some of the condors actually buzzed the crowd it was such a thrill. Well worth the time spent there. We took a tour with Machu Travel Peru which made it easy. There was a very limited ladies room and quite a long line and you need to bring your own paper. But again still well worth it.
One of the best spots in the world to see majestic Andean condors in flight. This scenic viewpoint offers breathtaking views of the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyons on Earth. Early morning is the best time to witness condors soaring on the thermal currents. It’s a must-visit for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone wanting a truly unforgettable experience in the Andes.
A wonderful experience. Get away from the crowds and keep walking the other, quieter view points to the right. When a condor flies over your head you'll be able to hear its wings cutting through the air. It's indescribable.
Spectacular! Very nice to see condors in their habitat. It can get very crowded and not easy to get optimal spot. I was so lucky that the young condor landed on the rocks near me. ❤️ Really absolutely amazing experience! We were on motorcycles tour and riding to the viewing area was stunning, awesome scenery along the way.
At over 3,200 meters (10,500 feet) deep, Colca Canyon is among the world’s deepest. The sheer scale is overwhelming — especially when you’re perched at one of the lookouts like Cruz del Cóndor, watching condors rise on thermals as the sun lights up the cliffs. Condors the stars of the show. If you're lucky (and most people are), you'll see these massive, majestic birds gliding silently just meters overhead — it’s a moment that gives you chills. The canyon offers incredible multi-day hikes, often starting at Cabanaconde and descending into the canyon to oases like Sangalle, with turquoise pools, palm trees, and rustic lodges. The hike back up is steep and challenging, but the sense of accomplishment — and the views — make it unforgettable.
FaceTime is between 8 - 9:30 AM. Had a few condors flying over and one actually went right over our head and landed on a rock, which is beautiful to see. Worth a visit.
You need to get there very early to get the best viewpoints overlooking the Canyon. We waited one hour before the first Condor took flight. Before long there were at least ten Condors soaring above and below us at the same time. We couldn't leave because of the amazing Condors were still soaring directly above and surrounding us. Our Peruvian Guide said he had never seen so many Condors there soaring in the Canyon en-mass.
We were looking for condors, and condors we got. Full marks! The mirador has an optimal position, but can get very, very crowded. If you manage, try to get an extra hiking tour to get a hit out of the tourists.

Perfect spot to end a 15km walk in the canyon de Colca. Amazing oasis and very tranquil. Plenty of nice hostels ready to welcome you. Many of those also offer the possibility to rent a mule to go up to Cabanaconde
Very peaceful oasis, a tough trek going up but worth the effort
This is a very nice lodge at the bottom of the Colca Canyon in Peru, the second deepest canyon in the world (second to a Chinese canyon), and it is more than 2 times as deep as the grand canyon in the US. After a 9 hour hike, it provided a refreshing atmosphere to relax in the swimming pool, take a shower and rest for the 4-hour hike out of the canyon the following day.
Beautiful place in the middle of the Colca Canyon, with multiple really nice and cheap lodges (as from 30 soles/night) Dinner and breakfast also available! bring musquito spray because there are a lot of musquitos!
Simple but great place with very nice people and good atmosphere, the food is sometimes a little basic.
Decent place but lacks the correct facitlies and hopefully is improved. Nice place to look at though
Amazing to cool off after a warm hike. Oases are always amazing and this is no exception! Stayed at Paraiso des Palmeras, recommend
Not a real town. Just a couple of lodges created for tourists. Using the bathroom costs 10 PEN and people seem less then helpful. If you want to swim though, there's a couple of nice swimming pools there. Yet, apart from that, expect nothing...

A starting point for a trekking to San Juan de Chuccho (2.5 hours fast walk) from where you can continue to Sangalle (Oasis) via Coshnirhua and Malata. The whole route took as 5 hours, but we walk quite fast and it's mostly downhill/flat. Almost all guided tours go in this direction with overnight in San Juan de Chuccho or Sangalle. A night in San Juan means lazy first day and quite demanding second, in a Sangalle it's quite equal.
Great walk overall. Few things I didn't like, firstly the entrance fee of 70 SOL was very high considering the lack of maintenance of the park. I also thought that at certain points the route was unclear and some people with less intelligence than myself may struggle. The walk was good and I would recommend this trail. My friend Matthew was a weak beta and struggle with the walk.
We drove to this Outlook point after going to the Condor overlook. It's definitely worth a quick stop but I can also understand why most tour buses turn around since nothing will top the overlook.
Peru has one of the most landscapes of South America
Nice veiwpoint of most of the villages of the colca canyon. Easily accessible by à short hike from cabanaconde.
(Translated by Google) Mirador de San Miguel is the starting point of the dirt tourist trail (marked with paint, which is necessary to avoid getting lost 😅) that leads down to the bottom of the canyon. You cross a bridge to reach the other side, where there are traditional villages. You reach the Sangalle lodgings. From there, you take another trail to climb to the town of Cabanaconde. At Mirador de San Miguel, even if you don't go without a tour guide, there is a local person at the beginning and end of the trail who will ask for your tourist ticket. If you don't have one, you can buy it from them and keep it safe, as they will ask for it at any time. To reach this viewpoint, you can walk from the town of Cabanaconde; it takes about 20 minutes. Before reaching the viewpoint, you will see a recently opened museum.

This scenic canyon known for its condors is a popular destination for hiking tours & bird-watching.

I was a part of a three-day trekking tour from Arequipa. One can also take one or two day packages. Careful, as the road crosses a pass at 4900m altitude and you can experience altitude sickness, so bring some water with you. The canyon is great, condors fly around, there's greenery everywhere, rivers, avocados (palta!), local villages, and small shops all around. On the final day, the trek starts at 4am, be prepared to get up early. There are multiple passport controls, keep track of your documents at all times
Off the scale scenery, great hiking and friendly locals. Generally safe to hike alone provided you are physically fit, can navigate and apply a bit of common sense. Finding accommodation was straightforward and the food was good
So beautiful! Lovely to spend a night in the canyon and enjoy the views. Saw condors and beautiful nature
Maybe not the deepest canyon in the world, but for sure the views are spectacular and if you are lucky you might also see some condors “levitate” 😊
Must visit destination. On the one day tour you’ll be in a convoy of vans and barely have time to consider some of the activities offered. And while you have to get up super early you won’t have to sleep at high altitude - trade offs. Do yourself a favour and acclimatize at least 2 days in arequipa before - a few people in our group felt quite sick, diahrea and vomitting when heading towards 4900m.
Massive landscape. One of the best views I ever had. We walk from the city of Cabanaconde to Lodge Llahuar. Which took us around 6 hours. Take enough food and water with you. Mininum is 2.5L per person. The views are amazing, it feels like you are walking in a beautiful painting every step. You need to pay 70 sol for entrance.
A must see! Thats one of the most impressive canyon. Watch the condor fly above your head.
Spectecular View and impressive Landscape. A must visit when in Arequipa. Just expect a Long drive. We did a Tour and started at 3 am. But it ist worth it.
