An unadorned castle situated in a remote location, that’s to say, it seems more likely a regular resident house. Because of fame of Sisi that attracts visitors come over here constantly, but some could be end up disappointedly. But that’s not the case for us, hiking is the real issue here. There’re some interesting hiking routes between Unterwittelsbach and Oberwittelsbach, this is my alternative tip for other people who might looking for different recreation.

A peaceful place for walking. It is not really a very beautiful palace. But it is surrounded by a lake and a lot of old trees. Walking along the path besides the trees you can go to the forest. That is a good choice for a family walk in weekend.

First of hopefully many pictures of German castles (and occasional other stuff). Pictured here is Wasserschloss Unterwittelsbach, also known as Sisi Schloss. Not nearly as spectacular as Neuschwanstein it is still worth a visit if you are in Bavaria. Placed right next to city of Aichach (also close to Augsburg and Munich), this could be the perfect detour for a few hours. With entry price of just 4€ for adults it is a bargain, and after you finish looking inside (which will not take too long), there is a nice trail around the moat surrounding the castle. You can also sit on numerous benches and enjoy clean air and bird song :)

Small but nice museum, well documented.

Another nice place to visit and to walk around a little park & sea right near the castle of princess Sissi. You can expect to have a nice time there and see the past glamour of forgotten times. Also you can, if you want, get a cold beer. Big point, there's a lot of free space to park your car.

Nice setting. Beer garden and restaurants in the season. Nice signposted walk. Exhibitions in the castle. A must for Sisi fans, but nothing compared to Ludwig's castles. Very quiet during the week.

Really good bar. I stopped here for a quick alcoholfree beer on a Sunday afternoon, and this was exactly what I needed. I can only give it 4/5 because attention was slow, and the bar was probably under-staffed or mis-organised. I asked for the same beer three times to three different people and waited a total of 25 minutes… However, good experience overall.
