Zoo

Zoo based in a prehistoric sedimentary rock quarry, focused on natural habitats for the animals.

One of the best zoos I've visited. Huge enclosures, lots to see but also thoughtfully laid out so you hardly need to double back on yourself. It was busy in the car park but didn't feel it once inside. Initially I wasn't keen on the fact that picnics aren't allowed in the park, but it actually meant most people left to eat lunch. This meant it was never overly busy as people were always coming to and from the park. The walk through sections were excellent and the whole zoo was very clean. There were often more than one viewpoint into an enclosure to give you the best chance of getting a good look at the animals inside. Would return again in a heartbeat. Tip: You can save a few Euros by booking online in advance. However, the queue for pre booked tickets took a lot longer than paying on the door, so consider if you want to queue for 10 minutes or so just to save 3 Euros.
Amazing time, the bird cage towards the end was the highlight. Also got lucky and managed to get a good look at the leopard, no tiger tho :/
Absolutely fantastic place to visit. Well set out and plenty of rest areas as it is a big place. Food available around the zoo and a restaurant as well .Free parking all facilities are clean and well kept. Great selection of animals and good habitat with plenty of staff to look after them .
The zoo was very nice and green, lots of trees and vegitation. Also the caves are really nice, and the animal places are good for the animals. But there are not enough places where you can get something to eat or drink, and the places they have, are all closed or have only something to drink (and are very expensive) while you are not alloud to bring your own food or drinks. They can make their guests happier and earn more money.
Outstanding! The enclosures are quite incredible and offer some of the best photo opportunities I have ever come across. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in wildlife photography. A++
This is the best zoo we have been to. It is just the right size, the enclosures look amazing, and most importantly, the animals have pups and look happy. Do not miss the feeding!
One of the best zoo I have ever been! Congrats to the staff!
Its a very nice parc (many interesting animals and birds) It was my first time to see giraffe baby

Great attraction that was far better than expected. Very reasonable entrance fee, good animation and interesting. The lady at reception gives you some background information and happily answers your questions. There's parking and a small picnic area outside.
Great attraction. Really enjoyed it. The animation is really good. And it's all so jolly interesting. The lady on reception is s very friendly and gives you your guide and some background information.we enjoyed a picnic outside in the picnic area. Well worth a visit.
Very clever animations to show the history of the caves. Very reasonable entry fee and thoroughly enjoyed it. We'll definitely be back for another visit when the animations change.
This place is really great, particularly for children. It tells the story of 11 million years of falun rock through a series of light shows, carvings and models. It's very atmospheric and amazing how deep the caves are. Very interesting.
Second time my husband and I visited this awesome place!! Absolutely superb and good value for money. Very unique and the artwork and visuals were amazing.
A great family experience. Our two young children had a great time and asked many questions. The exhibits were perfectly suited to their age and presented in such a way that they were able to engage. Ticket price was very fair. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience really enjoyed the caves the graphics are out of this world

Absolutely perfect kept garden and very friendly staff. Must visit when in the region. Call in advance to ask about the flowering of the roses. They will be honest and help you to understand how to appreciate the garden if not in full bloom. Fortunately I was there when garden was in full bloom. Outstanding!!!
We were here off season so only a few roses were blooming. Still we had a wonderfull time smelling the ones that were in bloom😍 Afterwards we had a great chat with the owners and we could really feel their passion for the garden🥀🥀🥀🥀
Heavenly paradise of roses. A must visit for any culutured tourist or local. The colours are breathtaking and the fragrances, exquisite.
Fantastic roses. Really lovely walk around the garden. Very hot but well worth the visit ans good ice cream at the end (vanilla cookie).
Even though some of the roses have obviously suffered from the drought that has affected the whole of France, we thoroughly enjoyed the walk through the park. We discovered varieties of roses that we didn’t know and appreciated seeing the peacock with her three young ones.
We visited the site today and after paying the entrance fee could not believe the spectacle in front of our eyes, ponds with no water in, rose bushes with nothing other than dead heads and nothing but dead plants and wilted grass. We returned to the entrance foyer and requested our money back but were informed that this would not be possible and the we should revisit next May to see the garden at its best. Complete waste of an afternoon and I would advise don't waste your time or money visiting this establishment.
Very tranquille gardens. Well defined paths although you can also wander on the grass. If you go make it earlier in the year, the Rose's in July had mostly finished flowering, so you didn't get the full effect of their beauty.
Not much of a welcome. Roses past their best. I know the hot weather hasn't helped but both ponds were dry. Hardly any display boards were in english other than the tree horoscope garden. English information helpful not just for English but Dutch, German etc. In 2019 we visited the smaller but much more Interesting rose garden in doue le Fontaine.

Really informative museum. Good to see the French shops through the ages . You are given a book that is translated in to English. Very pleasant lady at the ticket office. Small shop that also sells second hand items, My wife managed to pick up some knitting needles in a size she did not have . The rose garden although not in full bloom was still lovely to walk around.
Nice family fun visit. The person at the entrance was lacking in guidance, I think they just need some better signs put up in the beginning for newcomers. We went for the Victorian Christmas market weekend. It was very pretty and animated with lively characters. The person doing the animations was very funny and informative. The market vendors were great as well.
Nice museum on ancient crafts, free parking
A trip back in time as you walk the cobbled streets and see shops, most of which, rarely exist now. It brought back many childhood memories. The staff were welcoming and friendly, explaining everything. We were given a book with a detailed English explanation which enhanced our visit. At the end there is a very reasonable cafe where you can enjoy refreshments before going on your way
Nice, friendly and informing museum, brought many memories up. English translations available, pay attention you need cash/cheque for the entrance fee.
Wow this place is fab, a real step back in time. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I would recommend very highly

Really interesting underground quarry with a very rich and old history. Not too big but many interesting features. Almost all info panels are in French, brief info brochures available in different languages. Too bad these are very brief and sometimes badly translated. Perfect for a 1h visit. Very kind and informative lady at the reception.
Great little experience and educational visit. The tour guide was very welcoming and knowledgeable. An interesting place to spend an hour or so and see all the different ways the caves have been used.
Fantastic place to visit and so friendly. We were a bit confused by the website - you do have to pay - but once that was over it was everything these things should be: informative, fun, unique. Okay a bit amateur in places but that adds to the experience. Don't miss it.
A nice place to spend an hour looking around a historic site. I had hoped to visit somewhere that was used as living accommodation in the past, but the story behind this site was interesting enough.
We loved the tour of the place. The English commentary on audio was sparse and could have a little more information. Our tour guide was fantastic.
Super helpful guide at shop gave us a personal tour! Interesting history of use of the quarry. Nice shop. Reasonable prices.
Fascinating, they have a whole more to uncover

My family and I visit their store from time to time to buy the Lokum Rose. A travel more than 40 kms. I went down to buy the Lokum worth 15 euros and asked kindly if I can use the toilet just to urinate. And she said NO the toilets are for the visit. I repeated while politely showing even if I buy this you can’t let me use the toilet and she said No there’s a Super U 2 minutes away from here. I bought the Lokum And arriving at super u it’s out of service the toilette. I am very sad and disappointed she could have made an effort at least!!!!!!!!! 😒
(Translated by Google) Lovely rose garden, very well-designed ecomuseum section, very interesting explanations about the distillery. The welcome is warm. Magnificent shop with reasonable prices.
(Translated by Google) I've been walking past it for years without stopping. Big mistake. People mistakenly think it's a small building with a distillery, but it's much more. A small museum of troglodyte life with an interview with the last 20th-century inhabitant. A small farm section with donkeys, rabbits, goats, chickens, etc. A rose garden section, but above all, the distillery. Don't miss the explanation of the distillery's work (4 per day). Very informative. There's a large rose-themed shop, of course. You can get a drink or an ice cream under the trees in the garden.
(Translated by Google) The setting is pleasant and the place has a lot of charm, but the visit clearly lacks depth. Having come as a professional, I was hoping to learn more about roses and distillation, but the explanations remain very superficial. The museum could do with a real facelift to showcase its beautiful heritage, and the shop unfortunately doesn't make you want to wander around. The estate remains pleasant for a quiet family stroll, but there is a lack of coherence between the different areas. Regarding the distillery and the production of floral water, the explanations are too brief to fuel curiosity or convey a passion for the profession. It's a shame because the product should have been of good quality.
(Translated by Google) We had a great tour of the Rose Garden. The place is beautiful, and the explanation of how the distillery works was a nice bonus. 👍 The shop is very well stocked with all kinds of products, both directly and indirectly related to roses! I recommend the tour! The group rate with the "Troglos de la Sablière" is a good investment.
(Translated by Google) This is a lovely garden-farm. However, I was disappointed with the visit to the distillery-rose garden, which was what I came to see in particular. The rose garden part clearly lacks information about rose varieties and their uses. The cave part remains interesting (the video) but it is certainly not the best in the region. The unusual rose museum is nothing unusual except that it has remained frozen in time and that beautiful pieces are not highlighted in a modernized space. The distillery is limited to a 3-minute film that explains the principle very simply, but no mention of the properties of the plants, their uses... the farm side is nice but does not add any value to the visit. The website is dreamy but the reality is not up to par and it is a shame, because the potential really exists. To finish the shop is like the rest, old-fashioned... a shame because you can feel the soul of the quality of the products but nothing makes you want to buy even when you come for that... and if it is true that it is normal that there are opening hours, and of course a normal visit of about 1h15, this implies that after 11am you will not see the whole site while enjoying the cleanliness of the spaces, because you are told upon arrival that it closes at 12pm for 2 hours... and too bad for you if you plan to buy something... is it the off-season? Maybe but it is not mentioned anywhere. In short, I recommend it for a small, unpretentious family outing because the estate is beautiful, but for people interested in roses and distillation you will have to look elsewhere...
(Translated by Google) Disappointing and expensive for what it is. The rose garden tour costs €6.50 per adult, but the information isn't prominently displayed; you have to search through several signs to find it. The tour lasts less than 10 minutes, making the price completely disproportionate to the experience offered. It's a shame, because the place could be more interesting with more transparency and better value for money. Nice interesting visit on a small scale with friendly guide, well worth the 6 euros and do buy the perfumed sand. Very good.
Quite a fun little tour of a cave. The tour was only in French but there is a leaflet you can read. The tour guide did her best to give us some information! They are dog friendly too which is a bonus. The shop sells a variety of locally produced items and I’ve got some of the lavender room sand - it’s great!
Amazing experience! The farm and so on is good, but the sand sculptures are incredible. Warning, lots of steps and slopes with no hand rail.

We had a lovely experience here made all the more enjoyable by meeting Melissa who was so helpful with information & booking the town train and a visit to Bovet Ladubay winery for us. Many thanks, Ivor & Di
Very friendly and helpful staff even if you are only buying a pencil and a fridge magnet.
As you would expect lots of leaflets but many were a good drive away.
Great tourist information with friendly staff, lots of leaflets and local information and good clean toilets. They also have a wine tasting section just next door where they always have a variety of local wines open for you to taste for free with no obligation to buy. It's well worth a visit if you enjoy wine!
Super helpful staff and lots of information about the area. If you're visiting the town then the little tourist train stops right outside and gives you a quick overview of Saumur. It stops at the chateau for a picture stop too (and it's free in your birthday!) Collected plenty of information for our next visit to the Loire..
Excellent tourist office - always busy but plenty of staff to help and a little shop, too. Also has excellent clean (free) toilets.
We had an excellent experience of the Office's package for the Anjou Vélo Vintage festival 2024. This comprised surpurb accommodation, bike hire and entry to one of the organised rides, a boat trip past the majestic waterfront of Saumur, and a delicious lunch. Special commendation is due to Angélique; she was our main contact and coordinated the package. She was helpful and friendly in all her communications, and she went out of her way during our stay to assist us.
Lovely staff, always very helpful. The attached wine store has a good selection at reasonable prices whilst the tourist information office also has gifts and local produce available. And, of course, plenty of information about what's going on locally.

(Translated by Google) This is the collegiate church of Saint Denis, a very beautiful ruin of a 12th century building. Church dedicated to Saint Denis in 1040 for more than 300 years before suffering the wars of the 14th and 16th centuries. The chapter will have difficulty recovering from these rampages and will disappear with the French revolution. Abandoned in 1806, the church was sold in 1811. In 1883, it was used as a workshop and the north wall of the nave was destroyed. The collegiate church was nevertheless classified as a historic monument since 1862. The town bought it in 1889 which undertook maintenance delaying the inevitable work of time. This church in the shape of a Latin cross consists of a large nave and a circular choir. At the crossroads of the transept once stood an imposing bell tower whose base collapsed in 1961. Its Plantagenet style architecture is the perfect example of the Roman-Gothic transition experienced by the region in the 12th century.
(Translated by Google) Ruins that leave the visitor “unsatisfied”. These are ruins that seem interesting but not being able to wander through them is quite frustrating. Finally, safety is an imperative and these ruins are undoubtedly dangerous. The history of this monument is touching: Collegiate church built in the 12th and abandoned by the ecclesiastical powers in the 19th, it became a stone quarry. Bought by the town hall, its ruins were classified in 1862, allowing them to be seen 156 years later. The heritage (sacred or not) of Doué-la-Fontaine and its surroundings presents other riches: the walk continues.

Consider using an earthenware pitcher rather than plastic bottles. Artisan artists are what we have lost. (Original) Excellent. Les poteries sont faits sur place. Red, white, rose, sparkling, dessert wine, this 150 year old family business has them all. Their specialty is coteaux du layon and it is spectacular. The tasting room is very nice.
Lovely people, wine was wonderful and a very good price, I live locally and will definitely visit regularly.
Love this place! The owners are very pleasant and their product is really good. Their Coteaux du Layon have won multiple local and national awards. Their 'Pepite' is such a great example of the CdL wine. They also make a rose d'anjou (medium rose) that is second to none, the colour and flavours make this an easy wine to drink... sort of just because. Their pricing is also very attractive. Highly recommend a visit and place to stock up your cave or suitcase...
We spent a lovely morning being shown around the vineyard with fantastic views, the kids loved the treasure hunt, well worth a visit especially for the wine tasting and non alcoholic grape juice.

We had a wonderful time tasting, laughing, and discovering the region's grape varieties! A wonderful array of Coteaux du Layon wines, including whites, sparkling wines, and reds! And remarkably, I've reconnected with rosé wines and can only enjoy those from Domaine Bodineau! If you're looking for a quality estate with a soul and a human scale, I recommend it.
