The thermal bath is a good 35min walk from the parking. You gain quire some altitude getting there but for the most parts the path is easy and with some astonishing views. It's well worth the walk to get there and relax in the warm water.
The hike was beautiful. I didn't really care for the gravel on the trails but the views were absolutely incredible. When you get up to the hot springs river it's cooler farther down the river. The springs are pretty hot up top. I did find one spot where this cool Creek was coming into the hot part and there was a nice little warm pool , just the right temperature after the hike to get up there. The water is really hot so be prepared for that. Probably best in the winter. They have little t-shaped changing spots but you will be exposed. If you walk farther up past where everyone is a little more comfortable to change in or out of your swimsuit. Overall it was an amazing experience. The water was just too hot and I slipped on the gravel a couple times coming down.
We went into this hike thinking it was 35 minutes, based on someone else's review. It is NOT. It took us an hour and a half, and most of that is on an incline. You are basically climbing a mountain. The river is amazing and well worth it, but just know that it is a long hard climb to get to that reward. I would have been much happier on the hike had I known what I was getting into. There are Amazing views as you climb though.
Amazing experience with beautiful views! Prepare for a hike and not for a walk, the way towards the hot spring is quite steep from the beginning until the middle. I am a very active and fit person and it took me around 1 hour of fast hiking. So if you want to take it slow, prepare for around 1.5 hours :) No closed changing rooms, everyone is just changing behind a wooden wall.
Great hike to explore take in the views and nice dip in the thermal river at the end. Bright, sunny but windy and cold day. Get to see thermal vents and bubbling mud pots on the way up just from the car park. Hike is easy going if you like hiking and are used to it. Watch out for icy bits. If not used to hiking, it's probably quite hard, but there are flat bits to rest, have a snack etc. coffee shop at the car park and toilets.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A magical experience like bathing in nature’s spa! Reykjadalur Hot Spring Thermal River is truly one of the most unforgettable places in Iceland. The hike to get there takes about 45–60 minutes depending on your pace, and every step is worth it. You walk through stunning mountain landscapes, bubbling mud pools, and clouds of geothermal steam and at the end, you’re rewarded with a warm river flowing through the valley where you can relax and soak in nature’s heat. The water temperature changes as you move along the river, so you can easily find your perfect spot. It’s peaceful, scenic, and feels completely natural no artificial pools or crowds like in some tourist spots. Tip: Bring good shoes for the hike, a towel, water, and maybe a small snack. There are no facilities up there, but that’s what makes it feel so pure and wild. Go early in the morning or later in the evening for a quieter experience. An absolute must-do if you visit Iceland it’s not just a place to bathe, it’s an experience you’ll never forget. ♨️🇮🇸🌄
Amazing experience! The hike up takes about 45–60 minutes depending on pace, with beautiful scenery all along the way — valleys, mountains, and steam vents. At the top you reach the thermal river, where you can relax in naturally warm water surrounded by nature. The water temperature varies depending on how far up or down you go, so you can find the perfect spot. The path can be a bit steep and muddy in places, so good shoes are recommended. Unfortunately, some people leave garbage, towels, and beer bottles around the changing area, which is a shame in such a beautiful place. Totally worth the effort — one of the highlights of Iceland!
Great experience! We did the hike with our toddler and really enjoyed it. It took us about 1 hour and 30 minutes to get there and 1 hour to return. The first 10 minutes were uphill and a bit challenging, but after that the trail was much easier. The hot spring at the end was very hot and totally worth it!

A complete highlight of my mom and I's trip along the southern coast of Iceland this past week. The experience was so personalized and special. The hike was absolutely spectacular, the hot spring soak was beyond relaxing, and meal cooked was DELICIOUS. I would highly recommend stopping here as a must do activity while in Iceland.
Our trip with Úlfar into the volcanic Hengiil hills was the highlight of our week in Iceland. Our daughter loved helping to make a hot pool for us to bathe in, and we all enjoyed lunch while lying back in the hot spring water. Úlfar's enthusiasm and love for the area was infectious - we had a great time and would highly recommend it to anyone, particularly with children.
Andrés and his family run company were the best! Such a friendly and accommodating private mountain bike ride and tour of hot springs and local spots. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting Iceland! About 30-45 minutes outside of Reykjavik, in a beautiful little town. Stunningly beautiful area, thrilling heart pounding biking with plenty of snacks and stops in lovely gems to swim and rest and play.
10/10! Our hotel helped us book a tour here for the next day. We ended up walking to their storefront to talk further. We met Ulfar (and his adorable baby daughter!) and adjusted to add more to our tour. The next day, Ulfar's father, Andres, picked us up at the hotel and off we went! I'll remember the tour forever.
The best touring experience I’ve encountered not just in Iceland, but anywhere I have traveled. Family-run company that focuses on working with small groups so you will get a very personal experience. No big tour buses to ride or tight timetables with them. They plan tours to try to miss the crowds at popular sights and offer adventures to places that no other guides go. They treated us and the rest of our small group (10 total) like family. If you want a truly unique and special experience while in Iceland, this is the company to use for everything from a day excursion to planning a multi-day trip.
We booked Iceland a activities last minute and we are so glad we did, from start to finish nothing was to much trouble. We did the golden circle tour and even though the weather was really bad Andre made sure we still got to see everything and by the end of the tour we felt we had made a new friend, I would recommend this company 1 million percent and will be using again when we return, absolutely amazing 💝💝
Our day with Ulfar was SO enjoyable. He quickly understood what we wanted and what we were capable of and tailored the day to suit us perfectly. He took us well off the beaten track and we had a relaxing day seeing and experiencing things we could not have seen and done on our own. The highlight was eating food cooked on the steam vents, while relaxing in the hot stream.
I've been coming back to Iceland frequently since 2008 and I've never done anything like the experience I had with Úlfar and Iceland Activities. A truly personal and family run business where nothing was too much trouble. Úlfar took us to spots that were so far off the beaten track I wasn't sure we were still in Iceland and the food he prepared using just the geothermal heat of the ground was amazing. 10/10 will come back to see Úlfar and Rebbi again!

When people ask me what my favorite part of visiting Iceland was, they are surprised when I tell them it was this tour! It's about $15 or 17usd. You get headphones and download an app, then meander through 2 floors of exhibits. The information is awesome. The views outside in winter are striking and otherworldly. The staff are so friendly. I would take this tour again.
You won't miss it if you're driving towards Reykjavik. You can see steam from cooling tower steam billowing out on the highway. The self guided exhibition is quite small, you don't see a lot. The most interesting thing is the glimpse into the power plant and they have good signage explaining what you are seeing. Price is approx 2.400 isk which is quite pricy for approx 1 hour spent there
The main building where they have the exhibition is very clean and informative. The guys that works at the reception are extremely helpful and nice. All the presentations have their explanations. After we finish we did a tour through the whole plant in our car and saw the different mechanism that are used to accomplish the mission in the plant.
Incredible exhibition, lots of great information and things to see. Amazing to see how they have been able to sustainably use their natural resources for electricity and heat. Definitely worth the visit!
The geothermal exhibit is interesting but definitely overpriced considering the time spent inside. We took our time and stayed around 20 minutes, apart from several videos you don’t get much to see. All the boards are explained in English language only and the displays are not very interactive.
A really good morning activity. It was really informative and well set out. We both learnt lots about geothermal energy and also carbon capture and storage. It was very encouraging to see how Iceland are working towards net zero emissions. We were able to see lots of cool things including the turbine room and how the electricity it produced. Would appeal to all ages and variety of interests. It was also very good value. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and would highly recommend a visit.
This was a really great exhibit. Great to see a full size example of what the rest of the world can use. It took us about an hour to go through and they have info for adults, students, and kids. The building is gorgeous and you can see the history of geothermal, their production and the exciting news of carbon fixing. If you're going out to the south coast, make a pit stop!
Very interesting to understand more about the very unique geothermal activity and technologies around which Iceland and modern Islandic people revolve. It was a bit short even, but the last floor already has a lot to learn about when we take the time to read and watch everything. To count between 1 and 2 hours long.

Wonderful accommodation with a magical atmosphere! Hótel Eldhestar truly impressed me – peaceful surroundings, beautiful nature, and a great location for exploring South Iceland. The rooms were clean, cozy, and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and generous, with many local products. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful – we felt genuinely welcome. A big bonus is the horseback riding tours with Icelandic horses right from the hotel – an unforgettable experience! Highly recommended for anyone looking for peace, nature, and a true Icelandic vibe.
Eldhestar is a prime location for riding Icelandic horses. The riding staff is outstanding. The evening meals are very good. The front desk staff could be more helpful. The rooms have very old sheets, pillows, and towels. There are no hairdryers. Overall I am pleased with my visit but the hotel needs just a bit of attention to detail.
We had THE BEST TIME here!! We came for a three-day horseback riding experience. The guides, Anna, Emily and Lea were the absolute nicest, sweetest ladies. The horses were awesome! The food was delicious! Hot tub every day after riding was the icing on the cake!!! The stables were the cleanest we have ever seen! Thank you!!! Mary Dilly
My wife and I loved the two days stay at Eldhestar hotel. Everything was excellent: comfortable and tidy room, delicious food thanks to the Italian chef and very nice staff. Everyone made ourselves feel at ease. My wife and I will surely come back. Thank you very much indeed to everyone. Francesco
Had an excellent experience at the Eldhestar hotel. Very nice team, always ready to help you. Ideal location, close to a small and nice town. Very good breakfast, hot tubs are a plus.
I did their horseback riding beach tour and it was one of the best experiences of my life. 10/10, highly recommend for experienced riders who want to experience the tölt and also do some galloping on the beach. They have a wide variety of tours for different experience levels and in terms of length. Our tour guide was awesome too, super friendly and told us a lot of interesting things both about the folklore of Iceland and about the horses. They also very clearly take excellent care of their horses. We stopped a few times to give them grass breaks as it was a 5 hour tour, as well as a stop for lunch where we fully took off their saddles. Our guide was very attentive and made sure that they were not worked too hard or for too long.
Beautiful eco friendly hotel. They have horse tours which we didn’t have time for but absolutely recommend. Their rooms are also named after their horses which is so cute. Every horse has a story. Their common spaces, the dinner, breakfast options were all great! The location is close to so many nature activities and other restaurants too.
After having a poor experience at a substantially more expensive nearby "botique" hotel, my wife and I were very happy to find Hotel Eldhestar. The room was spacious, modern, and very clean, the farm setting was very nice and peaceful, the breakfast was varied, and the staff was kind and helpful. If you have plans nearby hotel Eldhestar is a great place to stay at a great price.

Beautiful! We did the standard tour (more budget friendly, and the other more extensive one looked amazing but it was completely booked). It was short but great. Inside the tunnel was chilly and felt like a different world. The guide was funny and knowledgeable. Very interesting tour!
30 people per tour. Tour guide was informative, humorous, and friendly. The cave is lit just the right amount. The guide will turn off all the lights for a few minutes for you to enjoy pure silence and darkness - a rare treat in the modern world.
À great experience to discover some of the phenomena related to volcano activity. The tour involves a 400m pit and back into the cave, with some steps but the path is very walkable. Very fascinating tour, and our guide was very friendly and patient with us taking our time for photos.
This was my favorite excursion while in Iceland. It is so neat, the guide was very knowledgeable, and we just had a great time. Highly recommend.
Very cool experience! We were taken out to the location by Arctic Adventure Tours and were handed over to the experienced Lava Cave Guides. The guide was very knowledgeable and ensured we stayed safe. Helmets with lights need to be worn. Recommend you wear warm clothes, gloves and good shoes. The tunnel is cold and the rock surfaces can be unsteady and unstable. The information about the formation of the cave and the way it's developed is very interesting. A nice hot chocolate at the end of the tour is welcomed! Highly recommend this tour if you're visiting Iceland.
We did this tour on 11/25 and we were so happy with the cave and with our tour guide Alex. He made the whole tour so entertaining and gave us so good information. If you are in the area you should definitely check out the tour.
What a great tour!!! Our guide, Alex, was fantastic, charismatic and VERY funny, while also being highly knowledgeable. Not a difficult walk, with stairs and walkways in the more treacherous areas. This is a great tour for adults and children, and was easily one of our favorite outings during our vacation!
We loved Alex! He was hysterical but also very informative. We got lucky with a 40 degree day so didn’t freeze. Loved the pitch black part as well as I couldn’t imagine being stuck in there with no light. Well worth the trip—we drove from Reykjavik and bought our own tickets online. High praise to our guide, Alex!!

I visited here on Oct 30 2024 spontaneously on a drive towards Hofn. This was such a cute, little thermal park. I got to boil an egg in the hot springs, have a taste of bread and sample coffee. It was a nice refresher after a long flight. The owner was there and I was the first visitor of the day, she was so kind and informative. A lovely experience!
I really do recommend and enjoy the sights and the Geyser when it erupts!! Make sure you are not downwind from it. The park is filled with lots of things to see and do like cook your own hard boiled egg and you get to taste the bread made in the heat from the GeoThermal oven and some mud for your feet!
Great value for money and amazing to experience, the woman behind the counter was lovely and you’re able to cook an egg in the geothermal water!! So cool
You park your cars on in the parking lot and then you walk over to all the different geysers. There is one big guys around the beginning from what we were told is sometimes it goes off pretty regular and sometimes it's quiet but when we went it kept going off. So we got a chance to watch it like three or four times and then there's little bubbly ones in the back that are cute to go look at
Visited the geothermal park recently and had a great experience overall. It was my first time seeing a live geyser, and it was absolutely fascinating to watch! The entry fee was 500 Icelandic krónur, which felt quite reasonable for the experience. Some of the craters didn’t have water, which the staff explained was due to a recent earthquake. While that meant fewer active features than usual, the geothermal activity that was present was still impressive, and the landscape had a unique, otherworldly feel. Definitely worth a stop if you’re nearby—especially if you’ve never seen a geyser in action before!
Nice little place to visit and didn't cost much. We were the only visitors there which was a surprise. It had information placards to give you info on area and hot spots.
Pretty cool park. The geyser here shoots pretty high, and eating an egg cooked from the water is pretty fun. It’s a nice walk around the park which takes around 20 min. Theres also a greenhouse with some cool plants.
Very nice little park with many geothermal activities and a walking path. We put our feet in the pool and enjoyed a relaxing time. The greenhouse has grapes and bananas growing. We tasted the fresh bread baked on the premises and it was delicious. The lady that runs this was very helpful and friendly.

The geology and fossil collection was very interesting. The shop features hand crafted gifts made of local materials at very reasonable prices. There are beautiful horses outside. I highly recommend visiting.
Well worth a visit. Make sure to meet Thor a local who collects the minerals and even can recall date and place. Make sure to pick up your dragon glass at various prices Game of Thrones fans.
A little museum with free entrence; however you can spend hours in there. It's a family collection and they are very friendly. They will tell you all about the beautiful stones and minerals from Iceland.
Amazing collection and kind, generous proprietor. We loved this place!!
Situated in the gas station, this beautiful family collection is worth the stop. I liked the way it was presented. We could also touch some of the minerals. I think it's a beautiful way to honor this family and all the treasures they discovered over their life time.
A must stop for any rock stone or geology lover. Highly recommend stopping in and browsing a multi generation long collection of rare stones. What a neat museum! Keep this place going! Please donate on the way out!
My wife and I are staying for our honeymoon in Reykjavík for 9 days and we were not that pleased with the gift shops offering mostly imported or foreign made items. We decided to take a drive out of the city and happened upon this place by accident. We bought quite a few items, which Haffi and his family handmake themselves and all of the minerals there are personally acquired by them. Not only awesome gifts, but Haffi is a wealth of knowledge, and an incredibly friendly and kind person. So happy we had the pleasure of meeting him. Eric & Ashley Curtiss (The Jewelry Doctor)
Can't recommend this place. It's an arguably nice private collection of stones, but not more. I don't believe in healing stones or crystals, and found the described properties/powers of the stones a bit dubious. Don't go if you expect a proper museum.

Huge range of pizza options and the pizzas all have fun names. The prices as reasonable for Iceland where all restaurant food is expensive, but if you can decide on a pizza to share it can be quite cost effective. The pizza we had was very yummy.
Stopped in for lunch on our way to Vik. We were very pleased with the menu options for pizza, the creativity and the CRUST. The crust is light and airy.
We stopped by during our visit to Iceland and were so thrilled by the pizza that we came back again three evenings later. The pizzas are extraordinarily composed, we loved putting jam onto a three cheese pizza, for example. Service was friendly, the place clean and somehow cosy.
Great spot and good price. Delicious pizza.
We’ve just had two of the best pizzas we’ve ever eaten. The cheese and garlic stuffed bread and the vegetarian Innocent Aunt Frida pizzas were fantastic. We would highly recommend this place.
Great stop on our way to Hella. Good vibes in a cosy dining area. Recommend the reindeer burger. Good portion and full of flavor, with a great portion of crispy fries.
G. R. E. A. T. PLACE. server was super nice, decorated great with some great paintings and other stuff. Good menu and for Iceland wore more than reasonable pricing wise. PIZZA WAS FANTASTIC. Goose burger and Sticky balls were good too! would definitely come back here again if ever in area.
I ordered the Margarita Pizza, and it was delicious. It wasn’t greasy at all, and the crust was the perfect balance between crunchy and soft. Time spent inside was very hot. I sat outside, and this was very pleasant so I don’t think I would have liked it as much if I had sat indoors. Would definitely recommend this place for some good pizza. They also had free wifi. Good value for cost.

Spacious museum with plenty of free parking. It is centrally located in Hveragerði and admission is free. There was an excellent exhibition focusing on artistic impressions by a group of Icelandic artists who had visited Varanasi, India. There is a fine cafe with tables inside and outside. There was a variety of merchandise.
Nice art museum to visit when in town. Free admission. I went as they were about to close so didn’t have much time left, but enjoyed some artwork and the cafe.
Free admission and open until 5pm! I love art galleries. I spent maybe 1.5 hours here looking at everything and watching the full video about My mother’s dream and some of the Skinnings video (it was beautiful shapes animations but then got a bit creepy when it started drawing people-esque things). My favourite part was the My mother’s dream exhibition because it was gorgeous, and the exhibition that was accessible by the second curtain from the room playing the video animation (which I never would have stumbled upon had I not gone behind the first curtain!). I also liked the graphite art with gold and silver metallic accents. There is a gift shop with artworks, books, posters, postcards, and little trinkets and chocolates for sale. There also appeared to be a workshop for kids at the time. There is also a sitting area with tables and chairs for board games. The washroom smelled lovely as well. There was a guest wifi network but password protected and I didn’t ask so can’t comment on the wifi quality. Free parking in front.
This is a really nice museum with well displayed exhibits of mainly young Icelandic artists. Today, I really enjoyed seeing a digital art video 👍😊 and two modern art exhibits. The Museum's café & shop are akso popular with locals and visitors alike ...like myself! 😊 Definitely recommend a visit!
This is such a quaint museum. It's FREE which matters a lot. The two women who were working there were very helpful, although there English was not very strong. The art is all a bit derivative of European modernist and impressionist, but very pleasant
The owner is bubbly and full of chat. The exhibits we're pretty out there! But we enjoyed chatting with a local and hearing her stories.
Great museum with a good variation of styles of work (currently - I’m sure they rotate artists). I was surprised to see that we were the only people in there when we went, but it was the afternoon on a Wednesday so that may have been why. There are several large rooms of work as well as a big open room for kids to play/make art. They also serve snacks, which looked delicious. We’re here visiting from the U.S. and this is a must-see stop (especially if you have kids) if you’re an appreciator of art.
Cute modern art museum, totally free, four exhibit rooms showing off new work by Icelandic artists. Good stop on your way to the nearby geothermal park (though that is temporarily closed). There's a bright and modern cafe inside as well, which served espresso and coffee drinks. (A lot of cafes seem closed for covid still in May of 2021, so we were happy to find espresso drinks!)

Great place to swim and relax- clean and affordable. My family (wife + 2 kids) and I stopped here on our drive back to Reykjavik - after camping for a week in a camper van. We really enjoyed the large heated pool, hot tubs, ice baths, and steam room that the facility provides. Plus, we all got clean 🧼 with a nice warm shower at the end. Was the perfect stop before driving to our last campsite (in Vogar near the airport) before flying out the next morning. Excellent place!!
Lovely place! Helpful staff and a true local Icelandic community pool experience. Really nice steam rooms, cold plunge tubs, two hot pools, and a heated 50m swimming pool. Also a gym. This cost 1600 kronur and was way more fun than any of the fancy baths I visited.
Simple swimming pool with lots of locals. Nice way to spend 1-2 hours. The big pool is warm but not hot. There are 2 small hot tubs and multiple cold tubs. There is also a steam sauna which was nice. Great price for Iceland.
Excellent sauna, hot tubs, and heated swimming pool. Looks like there was a gym there too - entry was included in the hotel reservation at the Greenhouse Hotel, which was exceptionally nice. Totally recommend and close to the Thermal River.
Nice swimming pool with hot pots at 38 and 40 degrees, plus a cold barrel. The main attraction for me was the steam bath, where the steam comes directly from the geothermal vents, with its characteristic sulfuric smell. Inside the steam room is made of wood like in saunas, very cozy!
Amazing local pool, with 2 hot tubs (37-39C, and 39-40C), 2 cold tubs (6-9C), 1 sauna, 1 steam room (steam straight from geothermal vents), and a 50m pool (springboard end is 3 metres deep). Unbelievably clean and such helpful staff! I wish my local pool back home is like this one... The 50m pool is too warm for lengths but kids adored the diving at deep end. Entry was 1220isk for adults and 420isk for kids, which is great value. Many thanks to friendly locals for showing us the Icelandic poolside etiquette 🙏
Absolutely amazing public pool! Clean, nicely organized! All you need to relax in the end of the day!
great place, we enjoyed our swim while we were the only people in the pool:) staff is very friendly and helpful, thank you!
