It's an OLD carillon, so don't expect bells with stunning sound. But this is a hidden gem. We were there noon on a June Saturday and were the only people watching the grand spectacle of the clock striking twelve, and the nymph moving to the music.

Small museum in a small town. What can you expect? We thought 15-20 minutes yet we spent more than 1,5 hour (and we could easily do another hour). Lots of interesting movies about history of the area, upstairs interesting things for younger and older kids. I was really surprised and will come again in the future.

We liked the museum pretty much. It's not big, but packed with a lot of activities and interactive materials. I would say it's kid oriented, whole floor is dedicated to traditional games so would kids busy for at least few hours. There is also an access to tower with acting chimes. Stuff was very friendly and helpful overall.

I am staying in a nearby hotel and for some reason you decide to chime your bell at silly hours of the day. I respect that there may be some culture significance to this. However why is there a need to ring your bell past midnight? People in the area are trying to sleep. If you’re a tourist staying in the area be aware!

Very nice place to go in any season, in summer you have the external area right by the water. In winter, you have the inside area which is very cozy with the couches and all. The food here has a fair price and comes in good individual servings sizes as well. Good to come for a date, with family or in a group. They have billiard for entertainment and they also have some events every now and then. The service is also very good. In general, a great place that will guarantee you some good time.

Not super cozy. The staff was polite, but unattentive. The woman behind the bar looked like she'd rather be anywhere else. The kitchen assistant (?) was cutting meat with his hair (long and wavy...) uncovered. I'd not come back for this...

The wind was also perfect and we had a nice swim in the Gouwzee at the end. Really relaxing and a great combination of wind and sun. We would love to come back soon.

Unfortunately the Hemmeland part of the marina is being ran into the ground. The toilet blocks are from the 70s and smell like a body was hidden in there when they built them. Even the male toilet block doesn’t have a door on it. Anyone can walk in and catch someone at urinal. Been like that for over a year. They get trashed regularly in the summer but they don’t get cleaned anymore regularly more guests they are. I mean I maybe wrong but the block is god awful in Hemmeland and it’s just going to get worse. It’s in the middle of a building site at the moment, not that you could tell from the rates. Fuel spilled last year and it took multiple times speaking to them before they even notified campers and berth holders. We were left with the smell in the meantime and no support from them. I saw people have to leave. The boat services don’t respond to emails or turn up for appointments. So while it might be ‘full service’ good luck at getting anyone out to check your engine. I rented a J/70 with two friends. I arranged everything by email. The boat was available from 0900, and we could borrow a 4-stroke outboard engine to get out of port. The boat was in perfect conditions, we had a day of great fun out on the Markenmeer. When we returned we ran slightly aground on the muddy bottom (a common occurence in Monnickendam). We managed to get free by ourselves, but by then one person from the company had already noticed our predicament - they came out on a small powerboat, ready to tow us. It was a very friendly touch. Everything went well, the personnel is also fluent in English. You can rent waterproof sailing gear if you did not bring your own.

Facilities are excellent and spotlessly clean. Friendly service and well located.
