Backed by rocky cliffs, this expansive beach with large sand dunes is a surfing destination.

Spectacular huge beach offering a lot of opportunities to explore sand dunes and fauna. Especially our daughter had a lot of fun rolling down the steep sandy drop-offs! Once you finally manage to reach the shoreline, the beach offers great views over the surrounding area. Fantastic for surfing, walking and sunbathing. We visited in February and we were almost alone, accompanied only by a light breeze.
Amazing views! Recommend walking along the cliffs to the left side of the beach. Easy trail with breathtaking views. Very beautiful! You can park your car almost everywhere. Don't be afraid to drive further, you can easily turn back again.
Absolutely stunning! My favourite beach so far. The vastness of nature, rocks, waves and this amazing beach is absolutely amazing!
Beautiful beach with nice soft sand and warm water running in the river alongside. Easy to access from the car park and the waves were really fun! It would also be good for surfing and has a lifeguard.
What should I say!? A dream beach with a length of 2.7km and a width of up to 400m. Nice waves, if flat good snorkeling. The beach looks like the one featured in the film "planet of apes" (original version)... Have to come back!
Praia da Bordeira is one of the most breathtaking beaches I’ve ever visited and I’ve seen a lot across the Europe. Located on the wild and unspoiled west coast of the Algarve, near the villages: Carrapateira and Bordeira, this beach feels like a hidden gem far away from the usual tourist crowds. The first thing that strikes you is the sheer size of the beach - it’s absolutely massive, especially during low tide when the sand stretches endlessly. There are beautiful sand dunes all around, and a wooden walkway that makes it easy to explore the area without disturbing the natural landscape. The views from the cliffs above are stunning, especially at sunset. The beach itself is clean, peaceful, and surrounded by dramatic cliffs and untouched nature. The waves can be quite strong, making it a popular spot for surfers, but also perfect if you just want to relax, walk along the shore, or take photos. Even on a warm day, there’s always plenty of space, and it never feels crowded. There aren’t many facilities directly on the beach, so it’s a good idea to bring water, snacks, and anything else you might need for the day. But that’s part of its charm - it feels raw, authentic, and disconnected from commercial tourism. Best way to get here is by car - there are at least three car parks nearby with lots of car park spaces. If you’re exploring the west coast of the Algarve, Praia da Bordeira is a must-see. It’s perfect for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone looking for a quiet, scenic escape!
Excellent Sand beach, a bit of a walk from the car park but easily accessible. Nice bar with snacks and drinks, not too outrageously priced. Good waves, great for surfing - there also is a Surf school here. Can be a bit misty at times. Lifeguard on duty.
This may be the most photogenic beach I've been to in years. The surf absolutely cooks too. Guessing I just got lucky as I doubt it can be that good every day.

Great shop and school! We rented board from here too and the team were super friendly and helpful. We tried a few shops whilst we stayed in Sagres but this one stood out. Definitely recommended
Alex gave me and my daughter a fantastic surf lesson. We would highly recommend this surf school and Alex as an instructor. Thank you!!
Awesome staff, amazing surf lessons, really cool shop! Definitively improved my surfing with just one lesson! Highly recommend!
I’ve been renting boards from Algarve Surf Shop for almost 10 years but with the new manager it’s not what it used to be so would recommend looking elsewhere. The French shop assistant is cool and helpful, just a shame about the manager. The surfboards are pretty beaten up and they will charge you for when their old equipment breaks. I had a leash break in tiny waves (<1ft) and I was made to pay for a replacement. I had to bring separate boards back to the shop twice as the pads were not stuck down properly which meant I had to stop two great sessions early. They don’t seem to take pride in having good quality equipment and are eager to charge you for anything they possibly can. There are plenty of other surf shops in Sagres with much newer equipment so will be going elsewhere in future.
We did a beginner lesson and our instructor was Jules/Julia (so sorry, can’t remember for sure - blonde hair and from Germany). She was great! Lots of tips even though I’ve done beginner lessons before. I feel I learned the most from Jules. She was very friendly and made it fun. Board, wetsuit and organisation was all well handled. Everything was great. Thanks again!
Great little shop with amazing prices! We rented some boards (including roof rack) for €20 for 24 hours, surfing three times, making it very reasonable. The staff were super friendly and had good suggestions of which beaches to go to at the different times of day. Would definitely use again next time we’re in Sagres area.
Me and my family for looking to take a surf lesson; unfortunately we didn’t get the memo that most (if not all surf lessons) happen in the morning, but we were lucky in finding the Algarve surf shop & school, which could organize a lesson in the afternoon. They were so nice and helpful and our teacher Alex (hope I’m writing it properly) was soooo amazing, fun, full of energy and passion. I would come back in a heartbeat :))
Good boards for rental, with many options that the staff recommend for us. We checked prices of different rental shops and they were all quite similair. But here they were more flexible if you wanted extra hours, wanted to rent a skateboard,... Great overall.

Very small museum that tells the story of this pretty village. Highly recommended to learn more about the place we visit. Ticket is 2.7 eur for adults, a great contribution to keep the museum alive
A small village museum dedicated to the agricultural and fishing history of the town. Most information in portugese, but interesting pictures.
A wonderful museum, amazingly full of artefacts and information from such a small village. Encapsulates and explains a lot of social and cultural change. And if you know the village at all you can spot local characters in the photographs (when they looked considerably younger).
Nice little museum about the history of the town and the relationship the people had & still have with the sea. Note that only about 20% of the signs are in English, but the photos and maps speak for themselves. I stayed around 20-30 minutes. Entrance fee is less than €3 p.p. At the moment of writing, the Google Maps pin is in the wrong spot. It's up one more steep road instead of going left, and then you'll see it.
Best view in town Food good prices ok
Cute little museum about the history of Carrapateira but many boards and explanations are in Portuguese only.
A interesting visit .Some interesting images of how Carrapateira used to be . Very informative staff
Very informative Museum about the Ocean and local culture

I first tried surfing a few years ago, never made any real progress and was often scared in the water, but after just a few lessons with Riccy I learned to stand up, paddle out and catch waves on my own. Now my fear in the water is gone too! The small groups make it so much easier to learn. Riccy is a really fun, laid back coach who pushes you to get better with the right technique. I've never been to a surf school before with so much focus on getting the right technique first. Best surf school I've ever been to - thank you for making surfing fun again for me!
Great surfing experience with Riccy. The surf spot in Carrapateira (amado beach) was great for beginner and advanced surfers. Booking of the course was very easy and flexible, even on short notice. Riccy gave a great lesson where I could learn a lot. He even helped out with some useful restaurant recommendations of the area. 10/10, would recommend.
I think Riccy is the best surf coach there is! During my time at R Star Surf School I've learned so much and thanks to him gained the ability to get up on a surf board! Because of the small groups and therefore very intense but still very fun lessons you won't probably find a surf school better than this.
Awesome experience! Ricky is a fantastic teacher! It was the first time surfing for us and at the and of the day we’ve been able to stand up on the board and surf a wave! We recommend R Star Surf School to whoever wants to try this experience!
Our entire family had a fantastic time having our first surf lesson on Bordeira's beach. Riccy was amazing and a super cool coach. We strongly recommend the surf school and location. Unforgettable moments for everyone and lots of fun!
Riccy is the best surf coach ever! If you’re looking for a surf course in Carrapateira: don’t hesitate and sign up for a multi-day course - you won't regret it! Whatever your level, Riccy will give you personalized training and attention. His energy and infectious passion are greatly motivating, and he knows how to find the right words to encourage you and push you to go beyond your limits, while ensuring you have a lot of fun! I've taken several surf courses in the past, but I’ve never learned as much as I did this time. Most importantly, I had a fantastic surfing experience at the beautiful Bordeira Beach. Thank you, Riccy!
Ricky was a great Coach - you feel it’s Passion over Business. Also very small group - great for first expierience. I would for sure recomment!!
My girlfriend and me did a three day course. It was great fun! Epic really! Riccy is the best. The classes were not too big. One day it turned out that we even got a private lesson actually. And Riccy is a thorough surf coach. He can give advice that fits perfectly well to your skills and conditions and all. We really enjoyed it!
