This is one of major temples in northern of Thailand. The pagoda is the most famous in the temple. It is known as the pagoda of rooster zodiac of East Asian. All visitors must wear proper attires which cover legs and shoulders. Women in shorts may cover with provided robes.
If you are interested in Thai history, it is a place to visit. It is close to the museum, so I recommend you to go to the museum first and visit it after understanding the history. It is a beautiful temple that contains the history of the queen who created a city-state.
This is the largest temple in Lamphun city. You can buy offerings next to the ticket booth. Devotees walk in a clockwise manner thrice to ask for blessings. There is a shop selling drinks in the temple grounds. If you are hungry, you can head to a famous longan noodle shop just across the bridge, within 5 minutes.
I went here during the Lamphun Lantern festival. The color of the lantern depends of the day you were born, so make sure to know that. Lamphun City isn’t too far from Chiang Mai, about 25 minutes by car. It is another temple you should visit. It is a beautiful place that isn’t too far. Must see!
A beautiful complex with temples. It's near the near, which you can see the view from a bridge. During Loi Krathong has lots of lanterns, food, and people retaliate their lanterns and Krathongs. Super worth going!
We went on a weekday but surprisingly more people than expected, local friend said because the day was Buddha day. It is the most famous temple in Lamphun, many tourists from other province came to make merit. We had a stroll around and it was a nice experience. Outside the temple there's a lot of vendors selling Buddha amulets & lottery, very interesting.
Wat Phra That Hariphunchai is a magnificent temple located in the heart of Lamphun, Northern Thailand. Steeped in history and spiritual significance, this ancient temple is one of the most revered landmarks in the region and a must-visit for both cultural enthusiasts and spiritual seekers. Dating back to the 11th century, the temple was originally built during the reign of King Athitayarat of the Hariphunchai Kingdom, which predates the Lanna Kingdom. Its most iconic feature is the golden chedi (stupa), believed to enshrine a relic of the Lord Buddha. The chedi gleams brightly under the sun and serves as a symbol of Lamphun's rich heritage. The temple grounds are serene and beautifully maintained, featuring a blend of Lanna and Hariphunchai architectural styles. Visitors can admire intricate carvings, traditional murals, and ancient structures that tell the story of a once-flourishing kingdom. The atmosphere is peaceful, making it an ideal place for quiet reflection and prayer. Wat Phra That Hariphunchai is also an important pilgrimage site, especially for those born in the Year of the Rooster, as it is considered their zodiac temple. The temple hosts several important Buddhist festivals throughout the year, attracting both locals and tourists. In summary, Wat Phra That Hariphunchai is more than just a religious site—it is a living testament to Thailand’s deep-rooted history, artistry, and devotion. Whether you're a history buff, a cultural traveler, or someone seeking spiritual insight, a visit to this temple offers a memorable and enriching experience.
Haripunchai is Lamphun historical name during the Lanna period. That should explains the significant of this temple to the local people. Easy excess by songthaew from Chiang Mai.

Our family consisted of 8 adults and 2 kids. We had so much getting to try new foods, cook Thai dishes, and visit the Sak Thong Village. These were film photos taken through the tour. I was much taken by my all to brief visit to this temple complex. Always fascinating to see these ancient buddhist structures, the other thing that caught my eye was the amazing wooden house, check out the size of the supports. Wish I had more time today
Very nice and peaceful. Visitors can feel and experience rich culture and history of the first female ruler Queen Chamthewi of Hariphunchai Kingdom. The hisoty was 1,400 years back that it is belived that this temple was the last pkace where the queen live her peaceful life.
This temple is very peaceful and mysterious. When I entered the temple, I felt a surprisingly peaceful feeling ^^
Queen "Chamadewi" is a perdon from the past.. which is admirable in lamphun province. So beautiful place.
Impressive old temple about 800 years old a must see when in Lamphun
It can't compare to Wat Prathat Hariphunchai nearby, but still worth a visit. I love the ancient Chedi in the Hariphunchai style with the standing Buddha's along it's sides. The Assembly Hall is the key building on this site and is open. Some nice murals inside depicting Buddha stories. A couple of small water features on the right side as you enter the site.
The temple Chamthewi was truly incredible! The energy there was so powerful and pure, and I felt a deep connection with Queen Chamthewi. It was an unforgettable experience that left me feeling spiritually uplifted. Highly recommended! 🙏✨
The premises was clean and very peaceful. This Temple was established by Queen Jamdevi, the first Queen of the Kingdom of Haripunchai. The pagoda is unique as it is a square structure, which was built by King Athitayarat of the Haripunchai Kingdom.

Famous temple in Lamphun and a a must visit place if you are visiting chaingmai. It’s only 35 mins drive from Chaingmai and a very short trip and worth a visit if you have a few days
This place is one of the most beautiful temple in Lamphun in my oppinion Wat San Pa Yang Luang It is a temple of exceptional beauty. Now, at the end of 2024, the temple has renovated many areas. The building and roof are white and gold, outstandingly beautiful and clean.
I arrived there in early morning and i like this place so much. There is still no people. The architecture here is so amazing. I saw the staff working on restoration that they are doing the fantastic job. There is a dog walking to them when they work and they stop working and playing with dog. That is very impressive me with natural mind of loving. Car parking is locate outside the temple beside the local road.
So beautiful and holy place... You will go to that on yourself.
Wat San Pa Yang Luang is one of the oldest temple of Lanna located in Lamphun town not far from Wat Phra That Hariphunchai Woramahawihan this temple has one of the most beautiful wihan of Thailand (top 10 beautiful wihan temple). Every building inside this temple are beautiful especially architechture of wihan is combination between Laos , Myanmar and Thai (Lanna). Some story said that this temple is the first Buddhism temple of Lanna, established since 1074 B.E.
Beautiful!! The level of workmanship and detail in this temple is staggering.

This 1200 year old temple is rich in history. It’s quiet and not the typical tourist destination. The monk let us in a special room with a beautiful golden Buddha and murals that told the story of this temple.
One of the oldest in the area at over 1000 years old. Monks [Phra] in Residence. Some cool [if not macabre] Murals inside the Temple.
Mixed between old and new, the stupa and other temple do not allow women to get in. There’re many interesting old sculptures of traditional beliefs.
One of the historical temples which many Haripunchai era’s evidences had been discovered here. Very serene and peaceful vibes.
A beautiful small temple site in Lamphun that is rarely visited. I have been there a dozen times and have never seen another visitor, unless they came with me to the temple. The chedi is fairly unusual in shape and has a long history. It is possible that this temple dates back to the 7th Century CE and was built by Queen Chamadevi as her personal temple, but the historical evidence is not conclusive. Believed to be one of the oldest temples in Northern Thailand, but because of numerous renovations over the centuries, it is hard to prove any specific dates.
If you visit Lumphun, I do recommend to visit Wat Phra Yuen. I have peace I my heart.
Quite, not many tourists. Chedi monument is nice and has a lot of history.

Ran here, watched the Warriors play here - all very good. I love these local Thai stadiums. Big concrete walking/running path around the stadium itself, but all are welcome to take to the rubber running track too. Health and community spirit abound. Food stalls and a 7-Eleven close by.
Great place to do a run.
Atmosphere was nice, against Buriram. A little too far away from the pitch because of the tracks (track & field).
Great atmosphere for Lamphun Warrior football games.
Nice stadium very spacious for fun activities
Needs repair to toilets...
Good place for morning walk, fresh air, friendly community and small food market nearby..

Elephant and horse are part of the history of Lamphun, and are buried within the old chedi. It is a sacred place ,and many locals worship.
I love this place after visiting the Haripunchai National Museum. Also take advantage of using the outdoor gym 😄 at Ku Chang Health Garden where the mini running track around the lake is and a small football field plus an outdoor playground with mini gym.
A beautiful and sacred place where people pray for their wishes to come true.
A place of worship in Lamphun. I saw a small crowd when I was there. There was a nice coconut ice cream stall nearby. The ice cream costs starting from 10 Baht
Don't see the relevance of severed pigs heads.
Memorial place for the Queen's elephant... Worth to visit.
A very unusual shrine for the war elephant and war horse of the legendary Queen Chamadevi of Hariphunchai. Very popular site of worship for locals and Thai visitors to Wat Phrathat Hariphunchai and Lamphun. if you do visit here, please remember to be respectful, this site is considered a place of worship by the people who live in this area.
